woe, fat snakes be upon ye!

dunsparce variants! this was so fun! i know poke variants have been around for a while but i was inspired to do these because of @onebadnoodle 's banette variants!

gonna put some rambles about each one under the cut:

cobra (+arbok): normal/poison type. this dunsparce has gained a strong venom, but still prefers not to fight foes. it scares off potential predators by puffing up its body and showing off the pattern on its back, which resembles a face. if the enemy is still undeterred, dunsparce will deliver a potent bite before fleeing.

viper (+seviper): normal/poison. this dunsparce has gained a more mischievous attitude, and the two horns on its chin can inject prey with a deadly toxin. for some reason, this dunsparce seems particularly frightened by zangoose.

sunbeam (+kecleon): normal. this dunsparce has gained the ability to camouflage itself and turn invisible. well, mostly. its bright red stripes and belly are still visible even upon camouflaging, so it still relies on its drill shaped tail to escape predators.

royal (+serperior): normal/grass. this variant appeared only domestically, as its snooty nature makes it unsuitable for combat or living in the wild. it wishes to be treated like royalty, and will bully other pokemon into being its servants. the rare royal dunsparce seen in the wild seem to be released, and have only survived by getting other pokemon to do its bidding.

hog-nose (+sandaconda): normal/ground. its wings seem to be vestigial, as it spends almost all of its time buried in the sand. it can shoot sand from its large nostrils to scare off predators. its rotund body stores water and fat, keeping it cool and hydrated for long periods of time while also keeping it warm during desert nights.

Headcanon Clodsire facts #2: Electric Bougaloo

They are distantly related to the Mudkip and Croagunk line.

When two male Clodsire fight over mates, they bellow a deep DOOOO-OOOOOOOOOH and unleash their spines until one trumps the other's call. Fights very rarely occur.

Female Clodsire calls are much more quiet and temperate.

Their venom has been discovered to have anti inflammatory properties when diluted.

Clodsire easily get lost so it's not uncommon for them to travel to swamp to swamp trying to find their original home.

They have iron stomachs and can easily digest the most corrosive of materials.

Female Clodsire are known to babysit for other Clodsire when the latter needs to find food.

Males release a foul stench to attract females and secrete a poisonous oil to show off his worthiness. The more rancid, the more attractive to females.

Clodsire are so popular for their rotund shape that bakers become inspired to make pastries in their likeness such as donuts and eclairs.

They love to sleep and can easily snooze up to 13 hours a day.

They don't stop growing until they pass away from natural causes.

While Clodsire don't have teeth, their saliva is also poisonous and easily breaks down anything it's eating.

Clodsire are being used to clean up pollution in bodies of water due to their affinity of eating practically anything, including trash and plastic.

Due to their lack of intelligence, Clodsire are slow learners and have great difficulty solving problems that are simple for other Pokemon.

Clodsire make for poor guard Pokémon due to their gentle and relaxed natures. They are far more likely to make friends with intruders than enemies.

Despite being part ground type, Clodsire and Paldean Wooper love to be in water and need to be constantly moisturized since they dehydrate rapidly in the sun.

Male Clodsire are called Bulls where females are called Cows.

To defend their offspring or unrelated Paldean Wooper from an immediate threat, they swallow them up and stick them under their large tongue to escort the offspring to safety. They have a large pouch under their tongue meant for storing food and hiding babies from predators. This is usually only done as a last resort as the Clodsire parent uses up most of their energy swimming fast.

They are hardy creatures that can live in frozen water by temporarily shutting down their bodies.

Clodsire are poor swimmers but are extremely buoyant to the point they are nearly impossible to sink.

any wooloo headcanons? the sheep is my precious Rotund baby

The line is very friendly and can easily be approached in the wild without issue. It's thought that they've been living alongside humans for thousands of years in some regions.

Wooloo and Mareep are both used for wool; farmers sometimes get into fierce debates over which one is better.

Wooloo's wool grows faster and they can be easy to shear due to being normal-types, but Mareep are much smarter and less likely to be attacked by predators.

Interbreeding between the two is common. Once in a while, you can find Wooloo with stripes on their skin.

Their fur is extremely dense and helps keep them from being harmed. Some scientists are looking into ways to use this wool in industrial applications.

Dynamax Wooloo are still very placid in personality. Wild Pokemon can sometimes been found sleeping on their soft wool.

One of the line's biggest predators are actually the Elgyem line, who frequently kidnap them for reasons unknown. The aliens are considered common pests ala Murkrows.

Dubwool's wool patterns are thought to have served as inspiration for the patterns on footballs (soccer balls).

I have absolutely projected onto her since i saw her and maaaaybe got a little too attached right away to a Pokémon character who lets face it a lot of the npcs dont have a whole lot to them. In anycase Rika pokemon has ADHD, is unmedicated, and fights to mask it. Like apparently in japanese she starts speaking the most formally she can during the interview and the moment she’s not interviewing you goes right back to her kansai dialect. Like.

Its the serious demeanour that swaps so quickly to just a silly goofy guy (gender neutral). Its the little spin she does when she throws a pokeball

Its the fact that her specialty is ground types and her ace is the most rotund friend shaped beast for such a pencil thin and pointy woman

Truly have zero clue why people think she’s suave or a real flirt or whatever. No. Absolutely not youre all wrong! Im taking her and putting her on top of the fridge till yall learn to behave.

You just KNOW she’s sitting in the mud with her pokemon in those nice clothes of hers. The Makuhita Family

Makuhita always gave me the impression of some little overstuffed ragdoll, given its simple face, solid body color, and topknot. I don’t think that was ever the intention though, sadly. Instead, Makuhita seems to be centered around the idea of sumo wrestling, giving the Pokemon world a little rotund Fighting type with a big HP pool and not a whole lot else.

The whole sumo idea becomes a bit clearer once Hariyama enters the picture, a big rotund fighter with huge hands for good measure. It’s a pretty odd design though, and not in the same way Breloom or Ludicolo were. It feels like one or two elements were haphazardly added to Hariyama to make it stand out more, to make its design feel busier. Instead it just becomes stranger and harder to look at the more you stare at it. Like, what’s the orange bit at the end of its chest? Why does it have a yellow grass skirt thing going on around its waist? It’s not a design that annoys or irritates me at all, but it sure as hell does confuse me.

I mean it’s fine really. I’m not mad Hariyama exists or anything, but it’s quite unappealing in a way I don’t know how to word properly.

Ability: Anger Shell/Shell Armor

Klawf are found around arid regions of Paldea, including the Path of Legends where rare herbs grow. Its ability, Anger Shell, lowers its  Defense and Special Defense stats but raises its Attack, Special Attack and Speed when its HP drops below half.

12.: What/who got you into Pokemon?

Ooo good question.

Ok so it was my best friend! My best friend started collecting Pokemon cards before I did and she got into the show which got me into those things. She had the movies and this Pokemon board game. (I still have a bunch of her cards which she gave to me)

Then I found out there were video games and I got really into the video games because I'm a video game person. I went to Gamestop and got Emerald for Gamecube (I played on a DS though). I got hooked after that and got every game after (also I eventually bought Leaf Green also). This also includes stuff like the Pokemon Ranger series and Mystery Dungeon series!

I also want to note Nuzlockes as a concept because I think that's what kept me into Pokemon for so long. I just thought it was a cool concept and it's really cool how people turn their runs into comics with all these unique ways to justify the run rules in their game universe. So then I started doing Nuzlocke runs asdfghj and they've kept me in the games this long. This is also why I struggle to remember any Pokemons actual name because, as per Nuzlocke rules, I give them all nicknames upon catching and I just forget the actual names asdfghj

14.: The cutest Pokemon, in your opinion.

Ooooh hard question. Uuuummmm Cubone is up there because Cubone is my all time favorite, my little bean baby. I'm a big fan of Munna also like, very rotund. Rowlet, also very rotund. Obligatory Dwebble mention due to being hermit crab shaped.

22.: If you were a gym leader, what would your typing/theme be?

Ghost or poison! I've noticed the past few Pokemon games I've really gravitated towards teams featuring a lot of these types, enough where I've been trying to assemble gym teams based around them.

I think I'd more go with ghost because then I get to have Alolan Marowak, an all time fave of mine. Other considerations for my ghost type gym include: Hisuian Typhlosion, Frostlass, Gengar (of course Gengar), Banettem and Mismagius.

But on the other hand if I go with poison I could have my beloved Toxtricity. Other considerations for my team would be: Toxicroak, Clodsire, Venusaur, Skuntank, and maybe Tokapex

i did make that nice long lore post about dredge writing/language but i want to disclaim theres still some mysteries that myself nor god can solve like how dredge do have a fully visually based non-braille writing system, can read books written in regular presumably non-braille-based-or-compatible scripts written by other languages (which happens at least Twice in PS), but also dredge have skin just full on grown over their eyes and it makes them immune to blind condition cus it implies they cant fuckin see. i cant tell you that one. that is on Anet

#there are technically workarounds to this #but its probably safe to say theres little evidence that every dredge has a personal screen reader machine hidden somewhere on their body #and that rather its anet forgetting dredge Technically do not really have eyes #or maybe its a brock from pokemon type situation #they have working eyes theyre just shut by default #imagine a dredge opening its jarringly large and Very rotund eyeballs #implant that in your brain a second #notably also it is Indeed possible to read when you have visual impairment yes #but generally thats in cases where you dont have a layer of skin grown over your eyeballs

polteageist/pumpkaboo -> lazy villagers mean food, and food means food pokemon. also both with the yellow eyes, Rotundness, and uh. the fact that they don’t kill people themselves.

yamask/golett -> ancient egypt gimmick!! i was gonna add their evolutions for both of em too but i already had too many to put into one team so i tossed it. also helps that yamask carries the faces of people that have already died and that no one knows how the actual fuck golett still exists.

1. rowlet — i love owls, i love grass types, i love ghost types, and i think archery is cool even though i suck at it so rowlet was made for me. it's round. rotund, even. spherical!! if they make another pmd game you KNOW im going to be rowlet PLEASE NINTENDO

2. oshawott — i absolutely adore oshawott. its an OTTER!! it's so cute!! it's got a little shell on its belly!! also i always pick oshawott hero when i play gates so. i am very biased but that's fine i love oshawott 100/10 starter

3. turtwig + chimchar — i can't pick between these two ;-; i love grass types and turtwig was my second sinnoh starter (it's a whole story) and my most beloved pokemon oc has an infernape on her team so there's just no way i can pick a favorite here (i do like piplup too im just not as attached)

4. chikorita — objectively the worst starter to use in johto BUT THAT'S OKAY. chikorita is a trooper. a QUEEN. i always choose her as a partner when i play explorers. also in my last playthrough i found the tm for solar beam in the dungeon before groudon so. easiest time of that fight i've ever had

5. axew — not a starter by main series standards but come on. dual chop and dragon dance?? absolutely broken. and ofc i always pick axew as my partner when i play gates! how can i not!! very babey 10/10 (also haxorus looks cool as fuck)

honorary mention — shinx bc it is a pmd starter and ALSO my favorite pokemon (the whole shinx line is really) im going to emulate sky one of these days and play as a shinx and that's a promise
