im hugely into cooking irl and one of my favorite things to do in writing is think a little too deeply on Food Lore for the cultures my characters come from. i like thinking about asura being little omnivores who use a lot of ingredients found in jungles And caves, and its very enjoyable to write. grub burgers and steaks, glass noodles w/ firefly larva sauce, cave crab..cakes, about a billion uses for cassava and sweet potato and ube, chips and fries made of varied root veg, arrays of pickles (they keep well in caves), dried mealworms used the way we do chopped peanuts, their love of molecular gastronomy brought in to make 1000 weird little jellies and cakes and spheres out of every possible thing (those tiny jelly cups people feed to beetles..), mushrooms sliced in wraps and stuffed into dough wrappers and lions mane cooked into soup and hen of the woods battered and fried and put on skewers, etc etc etc......

#my stuff #THINKING ABOUT FOOD!!!!!!!!! #most of these are Real World Foods from different regions btw. i recommend All Of Them #had sweet potato noodles w mushrooms in a restaurant yesterday and i was stuffing it down like the spiderverse peter parker burger scene #but yeah every time i write my asura eating smth im like ok i know the game says u eat soylent and willy wonka doodads but What If #plex got the asuran equivalent of five guys one rp haha he had grub burgers and like mixed root veggie fries #they would also rlly enjoy chontacuro (skewered grubs) i think #tl;dr u should think abt ur characters food idk

How and why did they join in the first place?

the technical answer is "because he is a mama's boy"-- daizz is the product of two peacemaker shocktroopers, who are-- or were-- very intense about it. daizz is the middlest child of 5, and when his parents got into a huge explosive divorce centering around a massive argument about religious beliefs pmuch, daizz's mother defected to the inquest. daizz sided with her and followed.

Current Inquest agents: Their least favorite aspect of their job.

this is..hard bc daizz doesnt have many qualms with his work LMAO i'm gonna be honest. i think he has ideological clashes with other inquest sometimes though, and so his biggest annoyance can pretty much just be Coworkers. as a senior enforcer he also is responsible for organizing more tactical operations sometimes and his frustration can quickly hit its' limit when other people don't get with the program instantly. so again.. Coworkers

What are/were their long-term goals in regards to being a part of the Inquest? Becoming an Overseer? Performing an otherwise banned experiment? Or just surviving?

so daizz is a Guardian and definitely has the sort of zealot qualities that guardians can have.. like mentioned his family is Religious in the asuran sense, he has some pretty deep + powerful feelings about the eternal alchemy, and the inquest's lense on it aligns with how he feels. he's man who is deeply motivated by what he considers to be notions of loyalty and justice; he very much considers himself a cog in the eternal alchemy who is fulfilling his role. so he has no grand motivations in the inquest other than to be in it and keep climbing the ladder so he can continue to prop it up lol

How well do they get along with their coworkers and superiors?

kai is pretty extroverted and outgoing so he gets along with Most people pretty well, despite his lack of college degree being a booboo huge social taboo in his society. he exists in a little bit of a weird position socially where there's a bit of a silent, mutual agreement between himself and other inquest that, as an enforcer, kai is more of an object that can just be readily shuffled around and deployed as needed to smash things and doesn't need to do much thinking-- so, under that sort of idea, he's just sort of a random friendly guy who's personal goals/intellect/studies are mostly irrelevant bc it's not like he's studying them in the inquest anyway.

he tends to get along a little Less well with superiors since they're less tolerant of his general goofy misbehavior. still, he survives, since as a massive man with well defined muscles and huge ears he's hard to say no to

the person he absolutely 100% gets along the best with is 📣DAIZZ📣 who i've mentioned is his partner in crime (literal). kai is a staff-wielding spellbreaker and daizz is a hammer-wielding firebrand; their fighting styles sync up monstrously well and they're literally deployed on things as an inseparable duo. they've been fighting in sync for years now and while they do squabble, they have a kind of innate understanding of each other

What would they be doing if they had never joined?

he would scramble to find a simple/high-paying grunt work job elsewhere haha.. he might end up as some kind of shady security guard or likely go into bounty hunter/mercenary work. his life wouldn't be enormously different tbh, since unlike my other characters he didn't choose the inquest out of any personal motivators (other than "NEED MONEY"), although i think his life is a little enriched for having met daizz and he'd lack that certain kind of spark in an AU. however, his personal life would probably go a little better since he might pay off his debts faster as a bounty hunter

How valuable (/replaceable) of an employee are they?

kai is one of my few inquest charas who is actually fairly valuable-- in part due to his fighting skills and combat record, and in part due to the fact that he works specifically as a sort of support/enhancement to daizz, who is a Senior Enforcer.

daizz is inquest pedigree; his mother is one of kuda's personal guard and the two of them joined the inquest at the same time + for the same reasons, and daizz receives personal combat training from her as well as sharing a lot of her same abilities. this bit of his resume makes most overseers scramble and lay out the red carpet for daizz, and where daizz goes kai follows, so if daizz says that kai stays then he stays.

even without that, kai is simply a very talented enforcer, and asura that are a bit more-physically minded AND ALSO can survive that long in the inquest are likely fairly valuable
