So hi, I'm the same anon who talked about the double standard with Madwheeler and Byler and I've seen one of your rebblogs implying that I said if you don't like a queer ship you are homophobic and that's not what I said at all.
First, Madwheeler is not only a platonic ship. There are a lot of fics of them romantically and the comments are full of milevens. There is even one really famous in the byler tag even if most of them thinks Mike is gay.
Second, Robin is CONFIRMED a lesbian. Will is CONFIRMED gay. They are the only characters with confirmed sexuality. So yeah, people are going to complain if you put them in a straight ship and it does happen, there are people around here that still ships Will with El. However the other characters are not confirmed anything. Date a girl doesn't mean you are straight. You can be bi, you can be gay. I'm a lesbian who has dated boys more than once until I really found myself.
Milevens shouldn't be mad at bylers because they think Mike is gay and search for evidences for it, they should be mad at the writers for even having evidence to begin with. It was a writing choice to separate Mike from El three seasons while bonding Mike with Will and make them having a lot of heart to hearts. It was a writing choice to write Will in love with Mike. It was a writing choice to keep showing Will pinning for Mike so the audience would associate mileven with suffering. It was the writers choice to just joke around with any other ship in the fandom except for byler and keep using byler for merchandizing. If anything, be mad at them.
Bylers are just having fun with their own interpretation of the show. If you choose to believe everything that's happening on screen that's fine, but you have no right to be mad at someone or a group who doesn't. If you actually feel mad and irritated, you should take a step back. They are fictional characters. You don't write them, the writers do. By the end of the day, only them know were they are going with it so you don't have to act entitled as if you are the only one right. Bylers should not do that either.
As for the point they made about woman that don't need a men are aways HC as not straight, don't know where the hell they got this. Go read about feminism and you are going to see that there is no correlation between being independent and sexuality.
Again, there IS a double standard with queer ships and straight ships. That do exists and it's not because it isn't you bobble and you are not seeing it that it isn't a thing. We as queers have been experiencing it for a loooong time. Oh and... yes there are people who believes that Elmax is going to be canon and there are a lot of analysis supporting it.

Internalized Homophobia Chat:
Disclaimer: this is a gay!Mike POV, so if you view him as bi, you might disagree with a lot of these.
So I was pondering whether Will is struggling with Internalized Homophobia or just dealing with self worth issue due to growing up in a homophobic environment and I realized those two are both different definitions people use to describe IH interchangeably which caused me to look up the actual definition and I found some interesting things that are really making me think. Aka Ways in which Internalized Homophobia Manifests! Taken from this Link
Skipping ones that don’t apply to either because It’s probably going to be miles long.
1. Denial of your sexual orientation to yourself and others.
We don’t see it too much from both of them explicitly, but it’s definitely a solid for Will, as he can’t even say the exact words to his brother. He denies admitting his sexuality to others.(as most in his place in the 80′s) But as @ pinkeoni argued, we see Will accept himself just not feel accepted, as we see Will grow more comfortable with himself personally.(Turing project, boldness with the painting, acknowledgement of his difference/calling himself different, not having hang-ups about rejecting a pretty girl’s advances, etc) When it comes to Mike, we don’t see actual on screen denial, however, if we have perceived his arc and explanations of his actions, que billion other analyses we’ve already seen about his internal turmoil related to admitting his own sexuality to himself, there is pretty obv. denial. And I think it would be very strange for Mike to be like I’m gay? Okay! 👍 next season if we’re getting inside his head at all. Will’s denial is external. Mike’s denial is internal and likely external(though if he’s coming out at all in s5 the external wouldn’t last long)
2. Attempts to alter or change your sexual your orientation.
None of that from Will who probably knew for ages what he is. Mike’s whole season 3 experience was about emulating his heterosexual father, forcing himself to date a girl. I personally think Mike understood what he was at the end of s3, but definitely had hunches and subconscious reactions to the idea with being with a girl causing him to act the way he did.
3. Feeling you are never good enough.
Oh that’s a definite both of them. Will feels like he’d never get to have a normal life and date like his hetero friends, and Mike feels social inadequacy(that one comic page where he feels like everyone is judging him?) and the his monologue about feeling inferior and insignificant when it comes to El being the big hero which to me reads as feeling pressured to perform the hero roll. (hyper-masculine heterosexual warrior that saves the day) which he simply isn’t. (Also if it reads as nerdphobia instead, its because the Duffers like to present a sanitized GA reading for most minority struggles aka Nancy’s coded feminism talk with Karen being more about personal worth and not actually feminism but the people who know, know. Billy’s racism coded in nonracist terms just implied othering. Robin and Steve’s original incompatibility being about their social groups, not sexuality, Will’s s3 issues reading as him not growing up as fast as others and I’m sure there’s more)
4. Engaging in obsessive thinking and/or compulsive behaviours.
This one we could probably attribute to Mike. It’s not explicitly stated, but if you take his projection’ed “It’s not my fault you don’t like girls.” and the way he acted toward Will in s4, there’s definitely at least incredible overthinking going on.
5. Under-achievement or even over-achievement as a bid for acceptance.
We don’t really get to see inside Will’s performance outside him being called a good student and his original report card, but we do see Mike act out and isolate throughout the show. (But personally I attribute it to being just a smidge traumatized by almost losing Will, and in after s3, after pretty much losing Will to a different state. (Mike having a breakdown about it as described in Lucas’ novel))
6. Low self esteem, negative body image.
We see the former, not the latter, but definitely more prominently a Will thing. While Will seems to have accepted himself for who he is, he still feels inadequate and like a mistake. He always puts others first and his self worth issues are probably one of his more defining characteristics. Mike, however also has some of these. You only get a glimpse of it in s4 when he talks about himself but I like to assume its not just El related. (Seriously how shitty would it be if it wasn’t a “Mike overthinking and having original self worth issue” from being bullied his whole life.” Like he is an invisible queer man, but it doesn’t mean he feels invisible.(that comic page again))
7. Contempt for the more open or obvious members of the LGBT community.
10. Contempt for those that are not like ourselves or contempt for those who seem like ourselves. Sometimes distancing by engaging in homophobic behaviours – ridicule, harassment, verbal or physical attacks on other LGB people.
Not contempt or anything violent or extreme but...”It’s not my fault you don’t like girls” is externalizing that internalized homophobia.
13. Attempts to pass as heterosexual, sometimes marrying someone of the other sex to gain social approval or in hope of ‘being cured’.
Definitely a Mike thing, but again, not as extreme.
14. Increased fear and withdrawal from friend and relatives,
Will naturally withdraws as a “my feelings matter less” thing, and Mike is shown to not be as connected to his family in the first place. Season 3, he withdraws from others to pursue El, and withdraws from Will in the beginning of S4.
15. Shame or depression; defensiveness; anger or bitterness.
Will has trauma-based depression and self worth issues and Mike seems to have just the “regular old teen depression” from the way he withdraws, acts out, and feels about himself. + from almost losing will
17. Continual self-monitoring of one’s behaviours, mannerisms, beliefs, and ideas.
It is not easy to say just how much either of them self monitor when it comes to performing masculinity from anything explicit in canon. (Although I would argue Will isn’t performing as much as we see him liking what he likes, not liking what he doesn’t like, not changing his way of dress much from his boyish flannels when s4 was definitely marked as a “coming into oneself” season when it comes to expression. Mike was definitely acting the “actual straight man” when it came to most things in s3, and we see him unclench a little in s4 and shown his extreme with his airport outfit.)
21. Conflicts with the law.
I know in the show it’s presented as sort of a goof, but both Will & Mike are very comfortable breaking the law. (Mike being rebellious from the start + disobeying Hopper as a hobby and Will passionately fantasizing about cheating in Vegas.)
23. Separating sex and love, or fear of intimacy. Sometimes low or lack of sexual drive or celibacy.
That fear of intimacy part. If you read Mike as bi, his whole behavior toward El in S3. If not, the way he acted toward Will early s4. (But I’m sure there are other examples)
25. Thinking about suicide, attempting suicide, death by suicide.
This might not be accurate, and up to interpretation referencing the Quarry Scene but if you read Mike also having trauma caused by Will’s disappearance, that could be a thing as well. I personally don’t know what to think about that theory, but I do think either or both will show their self sacrificial tendencies in S5 and we will know more about all that.
The conclusion is that they both struggle from Internalized Homophobia. For Will it’s more of a “I can process being gay but the world’s homophobia crushing me and my hopes & dreams” flavor and for Mike it’s a “the world’s homophobia is confusing me and causing me to lash out at others because I can’t process being gay and am making it everyone else’s problem” flavor of IH.
Anyway anyway, thank you for reading I actually found that whole article fascinating and thinking how many people just don’t really think on what the term means(or all of what it means)(including myself) so yeah.

first impression: ok i got into comics right around the time tim came out so my first impression was very much the general publics of "robin has a boyfriend!" i read the urban legends story about that first and thought it was fine! i liked it well enough. then bc it mentioned that bernard was a friend was high school i went back and read his original appearences and idk i just loved him... he was silly and he was posturing and nobody really liked him except tim LOL. his friendship and crush on darla was also rlly rlly sweet and i got rlly attached to the trio of them. i also rlly liked his og design w the longer hair and sunglasses. i thought the conspiracy theorist thing was rlly fun esp w how close hed get to the truth and tim would have to be like "what ur so crazy hahaha where would batman get MULTIPLE robins".
impression now: im gonna be honest my peak bernard phase was before tim drake robin started when i was really really excited to see more of this character id gotten attached to... erm. in a post tdr world ive kind of distanced myself from him bc he feels like an entirely different guy. which is fine! presumably hes aged and i wouldnt want to live like my high school self forever. that being said, the ways that he is the same feel a bit like a parody now. his conspiracies r way more outlandish and supernaturally based than they used to be, and they way theyve kind of written it so seems like he knew he was gay/bi back in highschool which doesnt rlly read as true to me having read those highschool appearances. hes just tims boyfriend, who knew he was gay before tim did and was just kind of waiting for him, i guess. i do like the chaos cult, i like that in the unspecified time away from tim his life was like. completely fucked. but now that tim is there it feels like hes just been flattened back out. the last few issues of tdr actually started focusing more on his issues specifically w his parents and the cult but. you know. cancelled.
favorite moment: he was so so scared to talk to darla he was like "losers like us cant talk to cool girls like her tim... shes friends with jocks" and then tim goes up to her and the jocks are all nice and polite normal guys and darlas like yeah u guys seem fun. and its just like. he was completely overreacting. like so much for his claims of being a social chameleon 😭 and then next issue darlas just a part of their group and theyre acting like theyve been best friends forever. i think for as much as he pretends to be like. a cool guy who doesnt care that he has no friends. its a rlly nice moment of showing that hes actually really anxious and self conscious and he wishes he could reach out to people but once he has the opportunity he latches on to ppl and doesnt let go. and i also rlly like when darla comes back and he finds out she has powers and his first reaction is like. my life sucks so bad can i come and be ur sidekick. like man:-( he was funny for it though! shoot ur shot
idea for a story: ok this is for a hypothetical "possible in comics" story and not like. a fic. so its not super bernard focused BUT they need to bring darla back now im not joking anymore where is she. idk what the status of shadowpact is post rebirth i dont think it exists anymore? but whatever. tim gets a case that leads him back to louis grieve where we can get a recap for ppl who didnt read or dont remember what happened back then. he can be like heres where i met bernard^_^ also the horrors. anyway the case has smth to do w the mob&darlas family and so he manages to get in contact w her and obviously shes like. i have no connection to that life anymore im not helping and i dont want to remember this. but reluctant team up👍 anyway bernard plays into this bc i think tim keeps it from him whats going on in the case bc he doesnt know that bernard was actually the first to know when darla came back and he doesnt want to upset him by bringing up old memories bc they Never talk about the shooting. and laura obviously isnt telling bernard bc she has no idea he and tim r dating so hes kept completely out of the loop and tim and darla/laura r NOT getting along. he keeps calling her darla and hes whinier than she remembers and theyre getting nowhere in the case bc they dont work very well together. i would also rlly want an issue where it goes over how each of them experienced the day of the shooting and there r small differences in each one to highlight how time has warped their memories and how theyre all a little unreliable. and each of them would be done by different artists 👍 anyway eventually bernard stumbles upon the case and hes pissed off at tim for keeping from him "darla was my friend too" you know. and smth he remembers about that day but the others dont (too caught up in the gang war/being robin) helps solve the case^_^ and hes able to help tim and laura get along again and they part on good terms w bernard and laura staying in touch. and at some point while he and tim r fighting he confronts tim for fucking off after the shooting and not reaching out to bernard until years later, and how bernard was completely left alone after one his best friends died and the other immediately moved away.
unpopular opinion: whyyyy does he want to be a chef its stupid sorry. emt or nurse bernard is the most important thing in the world to me i have no idea why they chose "chef" for his career path but it annoys me to no end. its another thing that just feels flat about his new character. like even if instead of being motivated by his history with unable to save darla from the shooting+the cult he was scared of wounds and violence and avoided it... why chef? idk itd be fun if he wanted to be like a radio host or smth that actually fit his personality. i think money should also be a bigger motivater for him bc he always read as like. upper middle class new money to me whos parents cut him off when he came out. like maybe if they showed him working as a line cook or an actual job i could understand him growing a passion for it but hes just like. a rich foodie. like what.
favorite relationship: he and tim i guess LOL who else does he have. him and darla for friendship and also i think it wouldve been cute if they had dated for a bit in highschool<3
favorite headcanon: i think he should be angrier at tim. for missing dates, for not telling him hes robin, for everything. hes too nice. or if theyre set on the nice thing i think it should be framed as him being a bit of a people pleaser/pushover post cult bc hes scared of tim leaving him and either way tim should have to address being kind of a shitty boyfriend. a nicer one is i think duke would be his favorite of tims siblings:-) hes not weird to bernard like i think the others would kind of be (shovel talk from dick would make me kms) and bernard never had any siblings so he kind of treats duke like a younger brother and tries to like, help duke with his homework, despite the fact that duke is definitely doing better in school than bernard did. i dont know if duke like. likes bernard but hell actually respond to his attempts at bonding unlike damian who has him blocked.

Troubled Blood
Well, I’ve now seen all of it. My spoiler-free thoughts are:
Christ Robin and Strike have chemistry. Like fucking mad crazy sparks off the screen type chemistry
the plot was fairly daft, with one very large Chekhov’s pistol remaining completely unfired by the end of the story - but not as stupid as the previous series, and the whodunnit was worthy of Agatha Christie
I like the new office staff, with one notable exception
Scottish cop can stay. I like him :)
Strike’s daddy issues just get bigger and bigger and bigger
And yet he has a much nicer family than I do!
Cornwall looks lovely
Many hurts so good moments of genuine emotion, and the leads carried them off beautifully
Tom Burke needs to get someone to rough up his nails. His perfect manicure doesn’t fit Strike being something of a grot :)
I hate Johnny Rokeby a lot
Whoever makes these things needs to find more places to film. Too many of the interiors have been used repeatedly in other BBC productions and externally made films, to the point where I can bloody name the scenes and the action!
I was waiting for some nasty TERF story line to poke its head up. Instead we got a lovely lesbian couple and a very lovely gay friend
The casting was lovely from beginning to end, with one inclusion very much 👍❤️
The ending was so, so sweet. Nice work, Tom and Holliday :)
Still glad JKR didn’t get a cent off me for this!

first of all robin loooves lemon cake i know this in my heart to be true. also one of the most excruciating times in stobins life was when they worked across the street from each other but both had two jobs at the same two places but were always scheduled on opposite shifts. SICK and TWISTED. also robin joins rugby in college. i know this to be true. and not just bc i flirted w a rugby bitch tonight. it’s just a lesbianistic sport.
steve is fs a volunteer ymca youth basketball coach. he loves it. stobin are also the posterchildren for gay divorce. to me.
it is now the next morning just woke up 👍 anyways robin is so deep purple coded to me…. child in time is a robin song but steve only knows smoke on the water. also steve for sure cried and sang along to eyes without a face in his car alone after nancy broke up with him. but then he listened to it w robin and got to create better memories with it… stobin love billy idol im sorry but this is true (i’m not sorry)
to me robins parents r hippies and listen to like woodstock music (they were there) (jimi hendrix and janis joplin especially but also joan baez) but also i feel like they were a bit of a country music household just a little… mostly willie nelson and bonnie raintt but a little johnny cash, who gave baby robin an Amount of gender envy. she will own a bolo tie.

WOOF anyway after all that i literslly don't even #love nancy all that much LOL but i'm not an idiot about it?? like yeah she was horrible to steve and they weren't good for each other and they won't BE good for each other now things ended with them in a very sad upsetting way and i can see where people come from when they say she was cruel about it and it was MESSY but she was also a GRIEVING 16 year old who had the weight of a horrible secret on her shoulders and she did NOT accuse steve of fucking. killing barb she believes she did it too!!!! she is traumatised!!! and steve was ALSO traumatised but he was dealing with it by trying to move on and live life normally and they didn't agree over this and it also sucks that she fell for jonathan so soon after and probably actually in the midst of it all but nancy is not a BAD PERSON?!
also like yeah i want steve to scream and cry and hate her i want him to get his breakdown moment over everything but especially her but then i want him to be able to move on i just want the catharsis cuz he never got the closure LOL. and i like ronance and whatever robin/vicky is too but like for ronance i want the acknowledgement there from steve that nancy really hurt him and i want him to be conflicted and scared for robin in multiple ways and i want it to be COMPLEX because he knows how much she struggles with you know BEING GAY and it would be hard for her TOO they're not like fucking. 2d beings. well they are but relationships are COMPLEX !!! feelings change and shift you can't just project your OWN hurt onto it all like yah i love robin & stve. but i also love nance 👍 but also it doesn't have to be all deep all the time like they can just be cliche romcom rose coloured glasses dynamic too who like cares
