thoughts on best boy The Spot?
SUCH A GOOD VILLAIN.
When he’s a lighthearted probably-just-a-villain-of-the-week, he’s hilarious. I particularly loved him begging the store owner not to fight him off with a bat because this is his first robbery, please don’t make this a bad experience for him. He’s never done this before! It’s like he’s apologetic for the robbery being so inefficient, not the crime itself. His insistence that he’s Miles’s Nemesis instantly reminded me of The Panda Redd’s Lord Death Man videos. Him innocently saying “Oh, I love chai tea!” after Pavitr’s rant and Pav screaming “No!” and attacking him cracked me up. Despite his supervillain nemesis dreams, he’s so… polite and affable. Almost Doofenschmirtz-esque at times. Tell me Doof wouldn’t apologize in the exact same way for the “I came to India on a journey of self-discovery” faux pas.
I love that he’s the bagel guy. I treasure that moment with its bagel sound effect and I’m so glad they brought it back. He would cry so hard watching Everything Everywhere All at Once.
But the fact that he’s intertwined with Miles’s origin story and each of their superpowered conditions are unintended consequences of the other’s actions is highly relevant to the narrative, where the rippling consequences of your actions are a major theme. It’s kind of a fundamental Spider-Man thing, after all. It’s genuinely unsettling when he begs/demands Miles to look at him, really see him, and take him seriously. Even if he then literally kicks his own butt. It hits a lot harder after we see how isolating and distressing being an anomaly is to Miles himself. You can understand why Spot would obsess over their connection. Him starting out laughable and growing to be epic is an echo of Miles’s development in the first film - complete with a mostly black appearance upgrade when he gets the hang of it.
The tone blending is so masterful with him because he is also, somehow so scary. When he stops acting silly and friendly, it’s chilling. His powers are terrifyingly effective and dangerous and it seems like he hasn’t even fully unlocked their potential by the end of the movie. His appearance is silly (“Are you some sort of Cow Man?”) until it’s not; until it sinks in that he is a reality-rending cosmic abomination full of resentment, pain and spite, and his lack of a face or even eyes makes him feel more disturbingly eldritch than cartoonish. I cannot wait to see what he’s capable of in Beyond, and I hope the beautiful imagery puts Lovecraft to shame.

Criminal law professor: Someone can be charged with felony murder if a death occurs during the perpetration of a felony. So if you are robbing a store with an accomplice, and on the way back to the car they trip on the sidewalk and crack their head open, you can be charged for their death.
Me: How do we know when a felony ends? How far do they have to get from the store before it no longer counts as "during the felony"?
Professor: That's a great question :)
Me:
Professor :)
Me: ...thank you...?

Nobody is competing with steam, if you genuinely believe them to be a monopoly and not a market leader, because everyone else chose not to compete with Steam's Pro-Consumer attitude, you need to actually put some effort into showing how other companies are pro-consumer (none) to Steam.
And the utter fact is they're working on Proton, which is breaking up the actual biggest monopoly in PC gaming, Windows. Which Epic Games doesn't support Linux, because they hate Steam/Valve and thus will harm you the consumer in their wake.
Epic Games is purely Pro-Company first, Anti-Consumer second. There's no arguing that and anyone saying otherwise is actually a shill. Actually. They hire people to talk good about their products, and they're not good at it (very little to say that doesn't get bulldozed by reality) nor hiding it.

"Variety of Cases at Police Court Here This Week," Porcupine Advance (Timmins). August 26, 1943. Section 1, Page 2.
----
Charges Range from the Serious to Dogs at Large.
----
Variety was the keynote of the cases at the police court session here on Tuesday. There were serious cases such as the carnal knowledge of a little girl, and the robbery with violence charge against two young men who had been befriended by the man they afterwards robbed. Reference is made to these cases elswhere in this issue.
There were routine cases like three men being charged with allowing their dogs to run at large; one of these being withdrawn and the other two paying fines of $1.00 and costs each.
Then there was one case of an ordinary everyday drunk who paid $10.00 and costs. A second offence drunk paid $50.00 and costs; while a regular customer (three times within the year) was given a term of three months for imbibing not wisely but too well.
Traffic cases themselves ranged from the less to the more serious. A motorist who had a busticated muffler on his car was fined $5.00 and costs for the unnecessary noise made. A speeding case paid $10.00 and costs. Two careless driving counts meant a $10.00 fine and costs for each. No operator's license cost $10.00 and costs. Defective brakes meant an assessment of $10. and costs.
For a variety, a gentleman paid $10.00 and costs for having wine in other than his private residence.
A gentleman who cursed and swore right roundly on the street paid $10.00 and costs for his bad manners and his worse language.
One careless driving case took up much of the time of the court, but resulted in the case being dismissed. A car pulling out from the curb collided with an army truck that was passing or had passed. The rear-end bumper of the army car was damaged. The corporal in charge of the army car said that the car must have run into him after he passed. The Crown Attorney could not see how the accident could have happened any other way. The defendant, however, maintained that the army car ran into his car, and the case was dismissed. Greg Evans was counsel for the accused.
There were a number of cases withdrawn, these including one where a woman accused her husband of wife-beating and another where a husband accused his wife and another man of theft. The case against a man for failing to support his children was withdrawn when satisfactory arrangement had been made and approved by the local Children's Aid Superintendent.
A man who had taken some lagging that did not belong to him, frankly admitted that he had been guilty of theft but did not really mean to steal and had since paid for the lagging taken. He was given is freedom on signing a bond for $100.00 to keep the peace for a year.
