Tumblr media
AKAASHI KEIJI isn’t all that surprised when he opens his front door on christmas eve and finds himself staring at a pretty big basket full of bright, christmas-esque stuff he doesn’t have knowledge on. it’s practically tradition now for you to send out baskets or boxes or packets filled with christmas goodies every december 24th. ever since you moved in the house right next to his own, his life has been a bit more.... colorful might be the right word.
anyway, he picks the basket up and turns around to head back inside his abode, when a lively voice picks up his attention.
you wave at him, smiling widely, “howdy neighbour!”
but as soon as those two words came out of your mouth, your expression contorted into a grimace. “i’m never trying that again.”
but you soon perk up again, remembering the conversation you’d just started. “happy christmas eve, akaashi!”
he nods at you. “happy christmas eve.”
“so flat,” you sigh. quickly sending a wink down his way, you add, “it’s part of your charm though.”
akaashi chuckles lightly. “you think i’m flat? as in–”
“yeah, yeah.”
come to think of it, it’s been a while since you’ve had a proper conversation with the dark-haired man. the last time that had happened was maybe two weeks ago, during the early days of the month of december. the situation had been similar to this, the two of you standing in front of your doors, talking about plans for the holidays.
“oh, how was your visit back home?” you ask him, placing both your hands inside the pockets of the fleece jacket you were wearing.
he shrugs, repositioning the basket he’d been holding for the past minute or so. “it was fine. i hung out with my friends and family,” akaashi smiles. “what about you, did you end up going anywhere?”
you shake your head. “nope, i pretty much stayed inside the house all month long.”
he laughs. “damn. if i’d known that, i would have come back a day early to take you out.”
“i know, right? it was–” huh. what did he say?
“yeah. do you prefer baking cookies over marathoning movies? or is it the other way around?” he says, so casually.
you gawk. “huh?”
somehow, akaashi keiji, the akaashi keiji, is now only inches away from you, and you don’t know how that happened.
he reaches under your chin and gently moves your jaw shut with his hand. “you better not leave your mouth open, the flies may come in.”
he grimaces. “i can’t believe i just said that.”
you blink and shake your head. “i can’t believe anything you said just now.”
“believe it or not, i’m expecting a text later tonight.” he grins. “or maybe a rejection.”
“now why would i reject you on christmas eve? out of the goodness of my own heart i humbly accept your offer.” you smile widely. “favorite movie’s the grinch, by the way.”

Reading 1: Slow Fashion Consumer Behaviour: A Literature Review:
Reading one aimed to "understand the dimensions associated with the behaviour of the Slow Fashion consumer, their values, attitudes, and motivations" (Mariana, Vale and Faria, 2022 pg. 1).
I found the table on Page 11 to have quite interesting results from it. You always hear about the "Concerns" part of the table and this is always seems to be the most mainstream approach for people who are trying to spread the message of sustainability and how others can be involved. I found the more personal reflections on sustainability to be the most interesting part as it was taken from someone who lives a sustainable lifestyle.
I am not big in to fashion but to hear about the unidentified male consumer who "searches for their own style" and not "the trend" is a message that I have not heard before when it comes to sustainability. All of the brands try to make 'fashionable' sustainability pieces which ultimately still buys into the fast fashion mindset. So what is the answer, do we try and encourage people who are not normally slow fashion enthusiasts into the lifestyle by giving sustainable fashion pieces or do we continue trying to move towards the goal of ultimate sustainability, where brands are making sustainable, slow fashion pieces, even though it is a little alternative and not 'trendy' and could potentially leave behind those who are not brave enough to buy into the slow fashion movement?
Reading 2- A study of U.S. consumers’ intention to purchase slow fashion apparel: understanding the key determinants:
An interesting point bought up by this reading was about who the most likely to 'shop sustainably' was. From the research, the authors found that "females" and "high income level" consumers were the most likely to make sustainable choices about their clothing.
I thought that female shoppers would be the most likely to do so but did not think that high income shoppers would. I always had the thought that because a person has money, they would buy the most trendy and fashionable items because they had the funds to do so. The reading says that the reason behind this is because slow fashion items actually come with a higher price tag as it has a "longer product life cycle" and "emphasises quality" (Chi, Gerard, Yu and Wang, 2020 pg. 2) which makes sense but also links to the response above where we find ourselves asking, what is the answer? Many brands use sustainability as a marketing opportunity and a chance to charge higher prices for products which defeats the purpose as this makes sustainability unattainable for some. This cannot happen because to become a fully sustainable world and to encourage brands to continue with sustainability, we need everyone to buy in and then put pressure on these fashion brands to do so.

RESEARCH - an essay about self-portraiture and representations of people of colour
Between Our Selves: Conversation on Race and Representation by Sita Kuratomi Bhaumik
https://mdpi-res.com/bookfiles/edition/2034/article/4483/Between_Our_Selves_Conversations_on_Race_and_Representation.pdf?v=1636346834
Notes from the essay:
Creating a dialogue between self, identity and gender
“If the camera is a way for them to see us, self-portraiture - for racialised and gendered subjects - can be a way for us to see each other.” - as a person of colour, self-portraiture would allow me to have control of how I want to be seen and NOT from a primitive, orientalist perspective.
Racialised and gendered bodies can also be rendered objects and spectacles in their representation, thus making artists of colour face problems and possibilities of self-representation
With the misrepresentation of POC (people of colour) in Western art, media, history etc, there is a clear distrust of the ways in which representation and its technologies are used against POC - extremely problematic as misrepresentation stem from stereotypes, physical observation, ignorance.
“What is photographic representation beyond phenotype?” - Is the photographic image always the truth? How do we know what is fact and what is fiction?
In relation to Allan Sekula’s 1986 essay The Body and the Archive which investigates the history of policing and problems of misrepresentation, we understand that our images and their archive have been used by the state to identify and control our bodies
Personally, I acknowledge that I have little control over how my image might be read or used in the larger world however, as an author of my own, I know that I will feel a sense of agency and generative power in this process.

"Fluoride Free" (The effect of fluoride on the human body is characterized by a very narrow margin of safety, which means that even relatively low concentrations may cause various adverse or even toxic effects. The risk naturally increases with the intensity and duration of the exposure, with long-term exposure resulting in chronic poisoning. One of the defense mechanisms protecting the body against the effects of fluoride toxicity seems to be its deposition in calcified tissues. The most important role is played by hard tissues; bones; and teeth.in which fluoride accumulates in the form of fluorohydroxylapatite and fluoroapatite, replacing hydroxyl ions in the hydroxylapatite structure. These processes may occur at any point in life, starting as early as in the prenatal period and their effects are observed even in the skeletons and dentition of archaeological excavations from the times when exposure to fluorine compounds was incomparably lower to modern times.Significantly, the deposition of fluoride in hard tissues may have its own adverse effects. The symptoms of excessive fluoride accumulation in bones and teeth are known and well documented, classified as skeletal fluorosis and dental fluorosis, respectively. In addition to deposition in hard tissues, fluoride may also be found in calcification areas in soft tissues such as the aorta coronary arteries placenta, tendons. In these cases, however, this accumulation may not be classified as a defense mechanism triggered by an excessive exposure to fluoride. Unlike in hard tissues, calcium accumulation in soft tissues is never a physiological phenomenon and almost always leads to some undesirable effects, e.g., complications in pregnancy. This indicates that the saturation of soft tissues with fluoride is a natural consequence of their calcification. On the other hand, fluoride itself may stimulate the formation of calcification foci in the soft tissues, which suggests that fluoride accumulation is the primary phenomenon in calcification.) https://mdpi-res.com/d_attachment/applsci/applsci-10-02885/article_deploy/applsci-10-02885.pdf?version=1587561112 https://www.instagram.com/p/CdC8h__BNKG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

CHANGE
Tumblr media
character — fushiguro megumi
pairing — fushiguro megumi x gn!reader
premise — it’s not the same anymore
genre — angst yay
warnings — no mentions of cheating (but implied) just angst and arguments
a/n — i have never in my life written angst before so yes — for @okkatsudon’s collab!!
Tumblr media
i. fushiguro megumi
change is gradual.
most of the time.
it doesn’t feel noticeable.
but why is it that the more you look, the more it hurts?
-
the increasing rain checks.
maybe it’s true that he really was tired, and that he really did oversleep or had a change of plans, but it doesn’t sting any less. maybe he just really was tired. (you want to say ‘tired of you’, but for some reason, it doesn’t come out.)
it’s the second time this month. he’s… less punctual than he would be. before, at least. before… whatever’s going on with him. you think maybe it’s the training? or the curses? whichever it is, you hope everything’s okay with him.
it’s the second time you’re left hanging outside your front door, eventually getting inside and slumping on the couch, enthusiasm dissapearing away. ‘it’s fine,’ you think. he’ll come next time.
-
the missed phone calls.
sometimes you fall asleep with your phone angled towards your ear, not on the nightstand where it would usually be. you wonder if he wakes up in the morning, seeing your calls that he missed and panics. or does he brush it off and go about his day, sending you an apology text in his spare time sometime in the day.
“hey, stop scrolling through your phone at night.” your mom reminds you. it’s the third time she’s found you in your room with your cellphone inches away from your head, laid on the same pillow. “i will.”
it’s the third time the ‘goodnight’s and the ‘i miss you’s were missed. ‘it’s okay.’ you think.
-
fast forward
the fourth time.
the sixth.
and the ninth.
and the thirteenth.
-
the argument.
“i was always two steps away from you.” you breathe out shakily. “whenever- whenever you needed something, mundane or not, all you had to do was take two steps toward me. and i would have bent like water for you. i still would.”
you sigh. “i wish i could say i hated you.”
“i-“ megumi cuts himself off, and the mere fact that you thought he didn’t have anything to say to that speaks volumes to you.
“you- you would only take one. you always, always take one step and you wouldn’t take the other.” by now, you were sure that you looked like a mess.
megumi stepped closer to you, tipping your chin toward him and used his free hand to cup your face and wipe away the tears staining your cheeks. and you let him. god knows why you let him. a moment passed, and then another.
“you’re doing it again.” you say softly.
he didn’t seem to want an explanation. you don’t wonder why.
“go. go to them.”
you think that it hurts the most when he doesn’t look back.
change is gradual.
it’s permanent too, most of the time.
