a/n — i have never in my life written angst before so yes — for @okkatsudon’s collab!!

i. fushiguro megumi

change is gradual.

most of the time.

it doesn’t feel noticeable.

but why is it that the more you look, the more it hurts?

the increasing rain checks.

maybe it’s true that he really was tired, and that he really did oversleep or had a change of plans, but it doesn’t sting any less. maybe he just really was tired. (you want to say ‘tired of you’, but for some reason, it doesn’t come out.)

it’s the second time this month. he’s… less punctual than he would be. before, at least. before… whatever’s going on with him. you think maybe it’s the training? or the curses? whichever it is, you hope everything’s okay with him.

it’s the second time you’re left hanging outside your front door, eventually getting inside and slumping on the couch, enthusiasm dissapearing away. ‘it’s fine,’ you think. he’ll come next time.

the missed phone calls.

sometimes you fall asleep with your phone angled towards your ear, not on the nightstand where it would usually be. you wonder if he wakes up in the morning, seeing your calls that he missed and panics. or does he brush it off and go about his day, sending you an apology text in his spare time sometime in the day.

“hey, stop scrolling through your phone at night.” your mom reminds you. it’s the third time she’s found you in your room with your cellphone inches away from your head, laid on the same pillow. “i will.”

it’s the third time the ‘goodnight’s and the ‘i miss you’s were missed. ‘it’s okay.’ you think.

fast forward

the fourth time.

the sixth.

and the ninth.

and the thirteenth.

the argument.

“i was always two steps away from you.” you breathe out shakily. “whenever- whenever you needed something, mundane or not, all you had to do was take two steps toward me. and i would have bent like water for you. i still would.”

you sigh. “i wish i could say i hated you.”

“i-“ megumi cuts himself off, and the mere fact that you thought he didn’t have anything to say to that speaks volumes to you.

“you- you would only take one. you always, always take one step and you wouldn’t take the other.” by now, you were sure that you looked like a mess.

megumi stepped closer to you, tipping your chin toward him and used his free hand to cup your face and wipe away the tears staining your cheeks. and you let him. god knows why you let him. a moment passed, and then another.

“you’re doing it again.” you say softly.

he didn’t seem to want an explanation. you don’t wonder why.

“go. go to them.”

you think that it hurts the most when he doesn’t look back.

change is gradual.

it’s permanent too, most of the time.

i. inumaki toge

“this is not going to work.” maki grit her teeth, glaring at gojo.

“trust me, maki! it’s most definitely going to work.” the teacher grinned, peeking out behind the slim tree they were hiding behind.

you see, maki and panda were very tired of their fellow friend’s undeniable pining for (unknowingly) you.

he was the sole one definition of “definitely in love.”

they roped gojo into it, or rather, he stuck his nose in to their operation. as per usual. they’d tried literally every unconventional method known to mankind.

the ‘accidental’ two tickets to an amusement park, the jealousy tactic, you name it, they’ve tried it.

so, now they’re going with the classic blind date. how much more obvious can it be, right?

meanwhile, inumaki toge was staring at his door, processing the situation he was in.

moments prior, his two friends — namely maki and panda + a stowaway gojo satoru burst in his room, hurrying him towards his bathroom and closing the door on him, but not before yelling, “inumaki, hurry up and get ready! we’re taking you somewhere!”

but, he resigned to his fate and did as he was told, slipping on a shirt and a jacket and exiting his dorm room.

as a matter of fact, the ‘we’re taking you somewhere’ part was false, as maki just sent him a dropped location, and he deadpanned. however, he silently sighed and complied, walking towards the place.

he found himself standing in front of a quaint, cozy-looking cafe, raising a suspicious eyebrow. nevertheless, he stepped inside, greeted by the familiar smell of coffee. a waitress called out to him, asking, "are you the reservation for a," she looked down at her notepad, "mister gojo satoru?"

inumaki nodded, following said waitress further into the establishment. to his surprise, the waitress led him to a two-seat table, and when it clicked in his brain, he flushed red, silently cursing out his friends. they had to know he liked you! he didn't want to be set up with a person he didn't know!

but soon enough, he was singing a different tune.

why's that?

your face appeared in his field of vision, visibly flustered. you pulled out your chair, dropping down onto it and greeting him. "hi, toge! what are you doing here?"

and now he's thanking his fellow second years plus gojo, a small, lovesick smile on his face.

i. gojo satoru

checks up on you once every two hours. (it’s a bargain, he proposed once every one hour before you both came into an agreement)

he pops in wherever you are and is acting like he didn’t just abandon his students in the middle of training.

you sigh, accepting his kisses and hugs, then you grin and you shoo him off back to the school, telling him to not come back until after his work is over.

he listens sometimes. sometimes.

on his free days, he tags along with you, doing errands together.

during your patrols, he comes along as well, and if he is needed in an emergency he’ll tell you to wait somewhere comfortable and tells you that he’ll be back soon.

“nanami said that i’m needed to exorcise a curse :( can you wait for me in that cafe over there?”

the clinginess is unmatched.

you might as well have a koala rather than a boyfriend.

“satoru, get off my back.”

he pouts. “but i love you!”

“i love you too, but i’m developing scoliosis because of you.”

he won’t admit it, but you can feel his heavy figure rolling around your bed, and he instinctively gravitates toward you, throwing an arm around you and tangling his legs with yours.

an impulsive shopper.

i said what i said he does not think. he sees and he buys.

has an arm around you every waking moment.

so if he shoves his mop of white hair into your face all you have to do is just tilt up his face by the chin and press a kiss to his forehead.

when you visit the school, he makes it his. personal. mission. to bring you everywhere.

his students know who you are, all too well.

it’s rather overbearing, having your boyfriend hover around you 24/7.

but from what he’s been through, it’s perfectly understandable.

you just wish that he’ll have more faith in you, that he’ll be certain that you’re able to return home by yourself safe and sound.

that was also your most argued topics. you've had quite a few fights regarding this.

but i think he'll understand the third or fourth time you bring it up.

don't get me wrong, he's still protective of you. but he's loosening up a bit more and he's trusting you with your own safety.

the clinginess is still unmatched though -- be ready to coddle him as soon as you return home.
