You know, I do think that as a society, we need to reevaluate our relationship to sewing. Like, that post that says everyone should learn how to do some basic sewing even though it's difficult is a perfect example. Basic sewing isn't difficult. It just isn't. Yes, sewing techniques like pattern drafting, tailoring, or crafting a coture gown are certainly not something that a beginner is going to pick up overnight, but genuine beginning sewing isn't hard. Not that long ago, in the U.S. at least, it was standard to teach young children the basics of hand sewing. Even after that was no longer standard educational material, plenty of parents taught their young children the basics of sewing a seam. Sewing isn't rocket science. Most people, with enough practice, can learn even complex sewing techniques. Anyone can learn to hand fell a seam, straighten a hem, do a running back stitch, sew on a button, etc. Treating these things as though they are difficult, in my experience, leads to further alienation of people from their clothing. If all sewing is regarded as difficult, then it makes it harder for people to want to learn. It makes it harder for people to create a participatory relationship with the maintenance of their clothes. On the other hand, if basic sewing is seen as a valuable life skill that any adult could quickly learn, then it makes that learning so much more approachable.
Look through the notes on that post and you'll find lots of people saying that they're good at "shitty sewing" or that they can mend something in a pinch, but it doesn't look good. I really want to push back on that. Because all of our fast fashion clothing is made using machines, we are accustomed to seeing our clothing finished in certain ways. That is going to influence what we think "good" sewing should look like. But here's the thing. Those fast fashion items are not well made (not a dig at the laborers btw, no one could make clothing well in the conditions that they work under. No one). Overlock stitches are not the be all, end all of good sewing. I make most of my own clothing, and almost all the clothing that I make includes noticeable hand-finishing. The seams and hem on my wool skirts are slightly bulky because I turn and fell down my hems and seam allowance by hand. Those skirts look handmade. If you're evaluating them by how they compare to fast fashion, my hand sewing probably looks "shitty." But the thing is, my hand-stitched seam is going to last so much longer than the seam on a fast fashion garment. My hand-stitched hem isn't going to get pulled apart because exposed overlock stitches get caught on something. Maybe that button you sewed onto your Shein blouse doesn't look exactly like how all the other buttons on the blouse do, but I'd wager its more secure. Your occasional hand sewing isn't shitty, it's hand sewing and it's okay that it doesn't look like it was done by machine.
Sewing isn't difficult, and hand sewing isn't worse than machine sewing. Check out some YouTube videos, ask your grandma, check out a sewing manual from the library or Archive dot org. And when someone compliments the cool way you've patched your jeans, or remarks that they could never mend their own skirt, please tell them that of course they can do it because sewing isn't hard.

Interest has been shown and the thought won't leave my brain so I'm putting this on the table for discussion.
First let me be transparent: if allowed I will talk for ages about how people aren't taught critical thinking and media analysis and if they are that they aren't applying those tools where it counts. It's something I see so frequently and I'll get so driven up the wall about and I'll lament for ages the way that educational systems have failed to teach these tools or how little push there actually is on a widespread scale to learn and implement them.
But over the last 24 hours with instances on several fronts and in several fandoms, an additional thought has repeatedly been popping up that I think needs to coexist with this discussion.
And that is that there is a human being behind every take you disagree with.
It's easy to focus on the frustration and the issue and wanting to push for ways to improve the situation to the point I think sometimes it's easy to forget the individual people.
While I don't intend to point fingers to any one example (because again, I've been seeing this sort of issue in multiple fandom spaces on multiple platforms over the past day,) I feel like it's still something to bring up. Just hear me out on this. Fandom isn't necessarily a space where the intent is to always analyze and think critically about what we consume, but utilizing those tools can provide a more enriching experience with the source material, open up new discussions with other fans, and allow for a greater understanding of the source material and its creators and its impact(s).
But just as much as that, fandom isn't necessarily intended for that level of engagement, at least not as a mandatory requirement. Many fans don't consume a thing they enjoy for the sake of deeper thought and analysis, and this means that many times their opinions, headcanons, elements they enjoy, and understanding of the source material is going to differ drastically from that of a person who does those deeper dives.
And that's fine.*
There is a caveat there and I'll get to it, but I really would like to see this point as the main one for consideration in this discussion. Not everyone consumes movies, shows, books, podcasts, games, etc. with an automatic need or desire to analyze the media on a deeper level. Heck, even people who DO have that tendency are going to encounter things that they just engage with on a level of trying to simply enjoy it.
And that's okay. Not everyone has had the opportunity to learn those things. Not everyone wants to always dissect everything they engage with, and trying to do that anyway is exhausting. (And if you're trying to do that with the intent of seeking media purity, it's doubly exhausting because you're chasing something that cannot exist, and I would like to suggest that you reevaluate this because it WILL rob you of your ability to enjoy ANYTHING.)
And I think it's important to remember that when we hit that point. That there's another person. That no matter how much it may cause us frustration when we encounter people who show signs of not knowing or understanding the same things we do about something we've taken the time to really break down and understand, there's still another person and we don't know the circumstances behind why their experience is different nor are we entitled to know. I mean, YEAH, it's frustrating when prevailing ideas about the source material within a fandom become commonplace and are either blatantly wrong/ignorant or don't show enough analysis. But I feel like we also need to remember to be mindful of individual people even when expressing our frustrations and dislikes of ideas or attitudes that lack understanding.
Now. Here's that *caveat.
When someone's lack of understanding, lack of thinking, lack of being willing to go beyond the surface and understand the impacts of themes and ideas in media, lead to that someone causing harm to themselves and others, then there is a greater issue that I think should be addressed.
I'm not talking about "this person has a headcanon about this character that is ignorant of character history and I don't like it so I'm going to get on their case about it". I'm talking about, someone isn't taking the time to listen and think about and do some sleuthing on any media that they're engaging with that has real life negative consequences and impacts on other people, and they're unlikely to stop and reevaluate their engagement and behavior unless someone who does have a better understanding of those issues says something. Additionally, do they have individual opinions of their own in their lack of understanding that they're causing harm with, whether intentionally or unintentionally? Because I see that happen too, where something gets misconstrued or misunderstood in a harmful way and the person with that misunderstanding can go on to harm others with it.
For many, a positive change can be made by asking the question(s) "are you aware that this thing contains harmful ideas that have real-world impacts?" "Are you aware that your engagement with this material supports a creator(s) who is weaponizing their platform?" "These harmful opinions and thought processes are baked into the source of the media you're consuming and they have real life impacts; have you been taking the time to see if it is also working its way into your opinions and treatment of others?"
When those questions get asked, it can lead to changes that are positive or it can lead to an understanding that that individual may willfully choose not to reevaluate how they may be causing harm because they won't let go of whatever caused those harmful ideas to take root in them. And that is a different discussion entirely, but it's important to remember that this is a caveat to consider.
But ultimately, TL;DR— I think the complaint of "none of these people are using critical thinking or analyzing media is frustrating and it needs to change" can and does need to begin coexisting with the idea "an individual person may not know how or choose to engage critically with the media they consume some or all of the time and that's okay and I can respect and consider them even if I disagree with their takes on it."

@meradorm as promised
So I do a lot of my readings just as general 3 card nonspecified spreads and interpret based on general vibe, but feel free to place your own significance on the order/symbolism of the cards.
Tumblr media
NINE OF CUPS (reversed): This card stands for self-satisfaction, good fortune, and contentment. One finds joy in what one has and finds it abundant. Reversed, it can indicate greed, potentially shallow fulfillment, and concerns with the material world.
NINE OF WANDS: This card symbolizes persistence and resilience in the face of adversity. Despite being challenged when pursuing new goals, it is important to rise to the occasion and stand proudly, much like the sunflower does.
THE SUN (reversed): Third of the celestial siblings, this card points to warmth, happiness, comfort, and growth. The reversal indicates misfortune, depression, or unsuccessful ventures.
So... short answer is whatever your Plans are, they're going to put you through the ringer, and they might not get you what you want. Overall the experience may teach you a lesson or reinforce your sense of resiliency (god knows we've all been stress testing that side of ourselves lately), but the Sun and Cups seem to be suggesting you reevaluate your goals and make sure your plans are really in pursuit of them.

You want to provide the best homeschooling environment for your children in order to ensure their success. It's possible to give them the tools they need to succeed when they're on their own. After all, you're their parent! Make sure you pay attention to the following advice as you get going.
Know what your educational approach will be before you begin homeschooling. Whether you choose to go with a standard school type of environment and education, or if you prefer to focus on specific fields of study that interest your child, you should determine this up front. You will have clear goals to work towards, and the approach can be reevaluated at the start of each school year. When your child has a question, don't answer it immediately! Show them how to research the answer on their own, so they can know how to do it when you're not around. There are many websites offering simple information which children of any age could understand, so point them in that direction. When you home school your child, you take on more than the role of teacher. Actually, you'll also have to be the cafeteria worker, physical education coach and possibly even a counselor. Consider the responsibilities each title carries as you plan out your daily schedule and routine. Prepare lunches in advance, schedule outdoor time and make yourself available for emotional support and motivation. Create your own flash cards. There is no need to waste money on expensive sets of flash cards when you can do it yourself. All you need to make your own are some index cards and a marker. Besides saving money, this technique also allows you to tailor the flash cards to your child's specific needs. Define an area in your home where teaching is to take place. While it may be tempting to let your child do their work anywhere, it's important to have a defined area in the home that is dedicated to 'school'. This area needs to be quiet, well-lit and free of all distractions. Create a group of similar-thinking homeschooling families in your community. There are many reasons for choosing homeschooling. There's a good chance that you'll find others with similar philosophies and goals to yours. You can find out crucial homeschooling information from other homeschooling parents, especially if you are just beginning. They will also provide you with support. If you must focus on two things, in particular, focus on reading and math. These subjects can be difficult for some children to learn. They are also going to be the most-used subjects throughout their lives. A solid mathematics and reading foundation will help them throughout the rest of their schooling and lives. As you are beginning your school year, start out slowly. You can introduce a single subject the first week, and then add another the week after. Slowly build up to the full daily schedule so you and your children do not become overwhelmed. There will be plenty of time to get through the workload throughout the school year. Give your child enough break time to burn off extra energy and get some exercise. This can reduce restlessness and help them stay focused in class. Make sure you keep schedule breaks as part of your lesson plan. Find learning materials that work well with your child's learning style. You do not need to stick with one particular book and work your way through it. If tuitions in kukatpally is a visual learner, find books that emphasize learning with pictures, puzzles and games. Your children will stay on task and will learn quicker if you alter your teachings to fit their learning style. Remember why you wanted to start homeschooling. Be prepared for some struggles, frustration, and days that just don't work out well. Keep in mind why you chose to do this. It could be anything from being faith-related to wanting to be more involved with your child's education. Whatever your reasons, keep them in mind when you run into a tough day. While homeschooling isn't the easiest thing in the world to accomplish, it can really be an asset. It's convenient, and it is also considered a highly valuable option these days. You can really give your kids the extra push they need in the right departments if you put their education into your own hands.

Often the hardest part of writing for me is just getting started. So, to help kick-start my creative flow (and because I thought it could be funny), I asked ChatGPT to write a 1500 word sermon on Acts 4:32-35. Below the cut is what it came up with. Feel free to give your opinions on this AI homily in the notes.
Title: The Power of Unity: Lessons from Acts 4:32-35
Introduction: Dear beloved congregation, today, let us delve into the powerful message encapsulated in Acts 4:32-35. In these verses, we find a vivid depiction of the early Christian community, characterized by unity, generosity, and a deep sense of shared purpose. As we reflect on this passage, let us glean insights that can inspire and guide us in our journey of faith and community living.
The Essence of Christian Unity (Acts 4:32): The passage begins by painting a beautiful picture of unity among the believers. It says, "Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul." This unity was not merely superficial; it ran deep into the very core of their being. It was not about uniformity but about a shared commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Their unity transcended differences in backgrounds, socio-economic statuses, and personal preferences. It was a unity grounded in their shared faith and love for the Lord. Application: As Christians, we are called to emulate this kind of unity in our churches and communities. Unity doesn't mean that we will always agree on everything, but it does mean that we are committed to love, respect, and support one another despite our differences. Let us strive to foster an environment where unity flourishes, where we prioritize our shared faith over individual agendas or preferences.
The Power of Generosity (Acts 4:34-35): The passage goes on to describe the remarkable generosity of the early believers. It says, "There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need." Their generosity wasn't driven by obligation or duty but flowed naturally from their love for God and one another. They recognized that all they had belonged ultimately to God and were willing to share their possessions to ensure that no one among them lacked anything. Application: In a world marked by greed, selfishness, and materialism, the example of the early Christians challenges us to reevaluate our priorities. Are we willing to share our resources with those in need, or are we too attached to our possessions? Let us heed the words of Jesus who said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35) and cultivate a spirit of generosity in our lives. As we give freely, we not only meet the practical needs of others but also bear witness to the transformative power of God's love.
The Testimony of Christian Community: The unity and generosity displayed by the early Christian community served as a powerful testimony to the world around them. Acts 4:33 states, "And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all." Their actions spoke volumes about the reality of Christ's resurrection and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Their community became a living embodiment of the gospel message, drawing others to faith in Christ. Application: As members of the body of Christ, our lives are meant to be a testimony to the world. Our love for one another, our unity in diversity, and our sacrificial generosity should point others to the reality of God's kingdom. Let us live in such a way that our communities become beacons of hope and agents of transformation in a broken and divided world. May our lives reflect the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, drawing others into the fellowship of believers.
Conclusion: As we conclude our reflection on Acts 4:32-35, let us be challenged and inspired by the example of the early Christian community. Let us strive for unity, cultivate a spirit of generosity, and bear witness to the transformative power of the gospel in our lives. May our communities be characterized by love, compassion, and selflessness, reflecting the image of our Lord Jesus Christ to the world. And may we, like the early believers, experience the abundant grace and power of God at work among us. Amen.

GURU NANAK’s - The Needle's Wisdom
Tumblr media
MOHALI - 20th November, 2023
GURU NANAK DEV JI SAKHI - 3
In the historical account of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's wisdom, a profound lesson unfolds during his stay in Lahore. Dhunni Chand, a wealthy man, eager to serve the Guru, offered any favor. Guru Nanak, in his insightful way, handed Dhunni Chand a needle, requesting it in the next world. Bewildered, Dhunni Chand questioned the feasibility.
Guru Nanak, with a gentle smile, illuminated a profound truth. If a mere needle couldn't transcend to the next world, how could wealth? Money, he emphasized, holds value when used to aid others. This revelation prompted Dhunni Chand to reevaluate his life.
I find this Sakhi resonates across time. Guru Nanak's teachings transcend material pursuits, emphasizing the enduring significance of selfless actions. Dhunni Chand, transformed by this encounter, dedicated his life to benevolence, recognizing the impermanence of riches compared to the everlasting impact of compassionate deeds.
This Sakhi, a beacon of enlightenment, echoes the timeless relevance of Guru Nanak's profound insights.
“The Needle's Wisdom" teaches us to prioritize compassion over accumulation, recognizing that our deeds, not material wealth, shape a meaningful legacy that transcends worldly boundaries.
Thanks for reading this blog post.
With blessings from Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Yours
Bippinjit Singh

Spiritual Awakening: Recognizing and Embracing Your Inner Transformation
In the journey of life, there often comes a time when individuals experience a profound shift in their perception of reality, a process commonly referred to as spiritual awakening. This phenomenon, though often intangible, holds the potential to drastically alter one's understanding of themselves and the world around them. In this article, we will delve into the concept of spiritual awakening, explore its signs, and discuss how to embrace and navigate this transformative journey.
Understanding Spiritual Awakening
Spiritual awakening is a deeply personal and subjective experience that transcends religious and cultural boundaries. It is often described as a moment of profound realization, leading to an elevated state of consciousness. Those who undergo a spiritual awakening often feel strongly connected to something beyond the material world, be it a higher power, the universe, or their inner selves.
This awakening is not limited to a specific age, gender, or background. It can be triggered by various life events, such as a personal loss, a significant achievement, or a period of intense self-reflection. The common thread among these experiences is the deep sense of transformation they bring about.
Signs of Spiritual Awakening
While the journey of spiritual awakening is highly individualized, there are some common signs that one might be undergoing this transformation:
Heightened Awareness: Individuals often report an increased awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and surroundings. This heightened consciousness can lead to a more profound appreciation of the present moment.
Emotional Resonance: There is a heightened sensitivity to emotions within oneself and others. Empathy and compassion tend to grow due to this increased emotional resonance.
Desire for Solitude: Those undergoing a spiritual awakening often seek solitude and introspection. This time alone is crucial for inner exploration and understanding.
Questioning of Beliefs: Old belief systems and values may no longer resonate. This can lead to a period of exploration and reevaluation of one's life path and purpose.
Synchronicities: Many individuals experience increased synchronicities – meaningful coincidences that seem to hold a more profound significance.
Loss of Ego: The ego, or the sense of self-importance, often diminishes during a spiritual awakening. This allows for a more humble and authentic connection with oneself and others.
Embracing the Journey
Embracing a spiritual awakening can be both exhilarating and challenging. Here are some guiding principles for navigating this transformative journey:
1. Cultivate Self-Awareness: Focus on your thoughts, emotions, and reactions. Self-awareness is the cornerstone of spiritual growth.
2. Practice Mindfulness: Use mindfulness techniques to stay present and connected to your inner self. Meditation, deep breathing, and yoga can help foster this connection.
3. Seek Knowledge: Read books, listen to podcasts, and engage with spiritual teachings that resonate with you. Learning from others who have walked a similar path can provide valuable insights.
4. Embrace Change: Understand that change is inherent to spiritual awakening. Embrace the shifts in your perception and beliefs, even if they challenge your previous understanding.
5. Surround Yourself with Support: Connect with like-minded individuals who can provide support and understanding. Engage in discussions and share experiences to feel less isolated on your journey.
6. Practice Self-Compassion: Be patient and gentle with yourself. Spiritual awakening can bring about intense emotions, and it's essential to treat yourself with kindness as you navigate through them.
7. Integrate Insights: As you gain new insights and perspectives, find ways to integrate them into your daily life. This might involve making changes in your habits, relationships, or priorities.
Spiritual awakening is a profound and transformative journey that has the potential to enrich every aspect of your life. While it can be disorienting and challenging, recognizing and embracing this inner transformation opens doors to a deeper connection with yourself and the world around you. By understanding the signs of awakening, practicing self-awareness, and embracing change, you can navigate this journey with grace and gratitude. Remember, it's a personal expedition with no fixed destination – the beauty lies in the exploration itself.

Emerging Trends For Childhood Education
If you are a parent, maybe you are always worried about your child's education because it will help a lot with their growth and better development in the future. This is your responsibility to choose the best school for your child; you also need to think about their physical and social growth. That is why most people choose a preschool for their child. Where they can learn, play, and enjoy their day with their social responsibilities. For that, you need to choose some creative teachers or caretakers for your child.
Have a look:
Early childhood education (ECE) is important in our children's lives and benefits them in a variety of ways in their daily lives and throughout their lives.
Focus on phonics in literacy instruction
Focusing on explicit, systematic phonics in literacy instruction is a trend in early childhood education that we are observing and supporting. The promotion of subpar curricula by major publishing companies has been acknowledged by more specialists and community groups focused on literacy during the last two years.
According to a study, there is a gap in how early childhood education (ECE) materials and teachers instruct young learners in our code-based language.
The reporting showed that one of the factors contributing to the movement toward phonics training
Research focuses a lot on the unquestioning presumptions that teachers and educational resources have about how to teach reading. We have observed the changes that are happening as a result of ECE experts reevaluating phonics education for both young learners and instructors.
More Focus on Physical Fitness
All across the world, young children have a problem with childhood obesity. More attempts are being made to combat it, and they have now reached the preschool setting. Learning through movement and play is now receiving more attention. Children can start healthy by participating in these extracurricular activities, and some preschools offer instruction in lifelong sports like swimming, running, dancing, and even martial arts.
There are further benefits to this campaign for the integration of play and movement in education. Your child may explore, create, and learn new things in a fun way through the play. Play enhances a child's well-being and establishes positive behaviors for the future.
Learning through technology
For interactive learning experiences and instructional games, childcare facilities have long used iPads and other comparable gadgets. Even very young children are now familiar with Zoom thanks to the COVID-19 epidemic, which has increased technology use.
Technology use in childcare settings can encourage kids to participate more actively. Youngsters must have excellent digital literacy skills in our society's increasingly digital environment.
We may anticipate that innovative apps and interactive activities will play a bigger role in childcare during the coming few years.
Conclusion
These are three of many emerging educational trends you should follow if you want the proper education for your child in this fast-growing era. You must select a professional for your child's better development, and you can do so by contacting Preschool Sierra Madre, CA.

Excellent Source Of Information For Anyone Thinking About Homeschooling
Nowadays, homeschooling has become more and more popular, for a variety of different reasons. But, before you pull your children out of public school and teach them at home, it is important that you are properly educated on the subject. In the piece that follows, you are going to read some homeschooling information that you must know before making the choice to have your children home schooled. When you have a variety of ages in your homeschool environment, you can use older students to teach the younger ones. This is especially true of reading, where those who read well can read to the younger kids, pointing out words they may not be able to read on their own yet. Follow the lead of your child regarding homeschooling. While you may be tempted to homeschool your child all the way to graduation, he or she may not feel the same way. As your child gets older, the idea of regular school may become more appealing. Always listen to your child, and take the time to look into all available options. Always take advantage of back to school sales just as if your child was going to regular school. You cannot disregard the cost savings of supplies during these sales. It will literally become a checklist of situations to avoid and those which you need to focus on as a part of proper learning. hi! i was wondering if there's something in a chart that could show stagnancy or feeling like everyone is ahead but me. i do have a 3h capricorn with neptune and saturn is in my 8h, so possibly i could just be obsessing over the fact that other people seem to have faster lives instead of my own.
I feel like this is kind of the big conundrum for Capricorn and Aquarius gen Uranus (more-so Aquarius gen), especially if they are enduring a capitalist society. Saturn is passing through Aquarius rn too, so that will likely influence these feelings as well.
Achieving the normalcy that past generations so gracefully had is unrealistic and irrelevant to what normalcy is now. It's really difficult for Aqua Uranus gen to accept what an average or normal life is supposed to look like relative to their capacities. We are obsessed with fame, material gain, and building a legacy as young as possible. Social media has amplified the pressure to partake in a capitalist life.
The people you see that are ahead of you in life, you need to ask yourself what privileges did they have to get them there. Quick successes have a lot of correlation with paying to get there. So many success stories of people claiming they "had nothing" are usually a big lie (community, connections, generational wealth, heck even good looks are a privilege!) The pressure to advance in life (whether that be through career, starting a family, owning equity, etc.) is a construct ingrained into you. Same with laziness; the feeling of guilt when you aren't advancing in life, that you "must be lazy" or "not working hard enough" to get where other people are.
Saturn in the 8th can limit some of the privileges I mentioned, particularly generational wealth. It sets back what one can take from others to get ahead, instead Saturn tries to teach you to be your own source of opportunity and gain. Which kind of sucks, because yeah, life will feel slower at times, but Saturn in the 8th is also kind of awesome because it implies you're going to live a very long life. I would suggest reevaluating and gracefully accepting what a normal life looks like to you without comparing your life to others. This doesn't mean to stop dreaming big though, you can simultaneously accept and love your normal life and current progress while still buying lottery tickets lol

If you're still taking aizawa prompts, what about something where aizawa actually discovers izuku was a "late bloomer" and has gained insane amounts of control over his quirk given the short timespan. He can be impressed instead of frustrated and offer more informed guidance for further training

improbable [read on AO3]
“You’re telling me,” Shouta says, “that you’ve only had your Quirk for a year.”
Midoriya, sitting across from him, drops his gaze. He’s silent for a moment before he says, “Yes, sensei.”
Shouta doesn’t want to think about this. He’d do a lot for Midoriya, but he really doesn’t want to be here, having this conversation. He wants to excuse himself, find the nearest pillow and scream into it; he wants to find some other semi-responsible adult and ask them if they knew; he wants tea, or something stronger.
“God, kid,” is the only thing that comes out of Shouta’s mouth. He huffs out a laugh, then drags his hand over his face. “A year’s not— a year’s not a very long time.”
Midoriya twists his hands in his lap, a nervous tick. Shouta watches them, sees the way the sleeves push up, catches scars.
When Shouta had first seen Midoriya, energy crackling as he was suspended mid-air, he’d decided that Midoriya was going to be a bit of trouble. He had the right ideas, the right heart—it was clear to every faculty member in that room watching that Midoriya had displayed selflessness and a desire to save someone else. That was something that couldn’t be cultivated.
But Shouta had looked at him, broken, body mottled, and thought, reckless.
Reckless meant dangerous.
Danger meant another headache for Shouta.
Midoriya had little control over his Quirk. He used too much of its power; broke himself over it; and chose, over and over again, to use it unrefined to his own detriment. Shouta had considered expelling him a time or two—not because he was unfit to be a hero, but because he’d thought that Midoriya might kill himself before that could happen.
“Am… I in trouble?”
Shouta dropped his head. He couldn’t help himself and laughed again, the sound hooked from his throat, though he knew he’d have to explain himself quickly before Midoriya got the wrong idea.
“You’re not in trouble,” Shouta says, and hears himself incredulous. “Kid, Midoriya, you’re not- you can’t be in trouble for something that you… that’s a part of you. Why… You have to understand that every preconceived notion I’ve had about you, every conclusion I’ve drawn has suddenly been uphended and turned over in the span of the last…”
“Thirteen minutes,” Midoriya finishes for him.
What makes you count the seconds so carefully? Shouta wants to ask.
“You’re not even mad that I- didn’t tell you?”
Shouta pauses, taking a second to work through his own feelings. There isn’t much anger, but there is a deep, welling frustration. Not with Midoriya, never with Midoriya; always with himself for coming up short.
“No,” he says, sighing. “I wish you’d told me sooner, but… thank you for telling me at all.”
“Oh,” Midoriya says.
His student doesn’t offer anything else. His hands are still locked together in his lap, fingers running over each other. Here is a kid who is waiting for Shouta to be angry with him, or upset; but eventually Shouta finds the only feeling he can materialize is amazement.
“A year,” he says.
“Yes, sensei.”
“You’re—” Shouta starts, trying to find the right word and biting back a smile, “—impossible, Midoriya.”
Midoriya’s head comes up. His mouth opens a little, and then he says, “Impossible?”
Like he doesn’t understand if it’s a good thing or not.
“Midoriya…” Shouta swallows. “Your classmates. Most of them, if not born with their Quirks, have been able to practice and gain control and familiarity since the age of four. The U.A. application process is rigorous and difficult because by this point in time, in attending high school, you should have a decade of experience with your Quirk.”
Midoriya flinches. Shouta doesn’t know why. “Yes, sensei,” he says, “I know. I- I have- I’ve been trying… I need to catch up to everyone. I know I’m behind.”
“That’s not what I meant,” Shouta says sharply. He doesn’t understand why Midoriya thinks that way until it suddenly hits him that a late bloomer as they say will be considered, essentially, Quirkless. It knocks the air from his lungs.
“Then what…”
“Stop,” Shouta says. He rubs at his eyes. “Midoriya. You’re not in trouble. I’ll still— I still hold you to the same standards as my other students, because to lower them means I’m not giving you enough credit.”
Midoriya gapes.
“But,” he continues, holding up a hand, “I have to… I’m impressed. If that reassures you at all of what my opinion is of you— Midoriya, I am not comparing you to your peers and saying that you’re behind. I’m comparing you to your peers and you— I mean, Midoriya, you’ve basically admitted to me that in one year you have gained an immense amount of control over a Quirk that you’ve only had for that period of time. And you’ve kept up with your peers, and you have been one of the- the, students that have grown the most since your first day here.”
“Sen- sensei?” Midoriya asks. His eyes are shining.
“If you cry, I’m going to expel you,” Shouta says, because the only thing worse for his brewing headache than a child admitting he’s only had his Quirk for a year is a crying child admitting he’s only had his Quirk for a year. After this, and a reevaluation of all of his teaching, Shouta’s going to find Nemuri’s stash of alcohol. But that’s later; Shouta needs to focus on now.
“Let me show you something,” Shouta says. He reaches over towards his desk, pulls one of the drawers and finds the folder labelled with Midoriya’s name. Takes out all of his notes. “Do you see this? I take notes on every student, after every exercise. This is about you.”
He tosses it onto his desk. “I’ll have to write new ones now. What you’ve told me changes everything.”
Midoriya works his jaw. “I’m sorry,” he offers.
“I’m not looking for an apology,” Shouta tells him. “I thought you were reckless and impulsive. I thought you lacked control. And that is true, to an extent, but it means something completely different if I had thought you were using a Quirk for your entire life compared to just a fraction of it.”
“I need to be better,” Midoriya blurts, eyes wide, “I have to get better, I want to- because I know, because, it’s-”
“And I’ll help you with that,” Shouta says firmly, “alright?”
Midoriya wavers. “Alright.”
“You’re impossible,” Shouta repeats, and knocks his knuckles against Midoriya’s head lightly. “Don’t you see that? You’ve made it this far in a year. Imagine yourself in the next month, in the next semester, in a year from now, three. You’re going to be great.”
