Sometimes i remember a comics moment i randomly came across somewhere, where Sam Wilson mentiones a musical and Steve Rodgers says he doesn't like musicals, to whitch Sam goes "Guess that means you really are straight" and even tho i don't care about Cap America or the Avengers, the moment stuck in me for that quote by Sam. And like....Sci, any ideas if straight men actually don't like musicals or is that bullshit?

actually i think i know more gay men who hate musicals than i know straight men who hate musicals. i've had a drag queen stop me point blank when i was about to sing a barbra streisand song, and i know so many gays who pointedly hate abba. so based on my experience i think the inverse is true. most of the straight men i know are kind of impartial about musicals, but gay men? hate.

my theory is that a lot of gay men don't want to fall into stereotypes, maybe. but thaaaaat's just a theory! a gay theory.

Don't bigots understand that graves hold context clues? Do they seriously think that trans people won't exist in the future?

In some ancient cultures, in graves discovered, some "men" were buried dressed as women, and put into feminine poses, etc. LGBTQ+ hatred wasn't as common in the ancient world. It's more recent in historical terms, mostly spread by the west.

This reminds me of a similar joke:

A historian finds his wife 69ing with another woman. He yells and is furious, until she says "No, wait! You don't understand, she and I are just good friends." The historian then breathes a sigh of relief because that explanation makes so much sense to him. lol

I don't have much to say about Magne other than there was an Attempt, but. That time when Twice and Toga got angry with Overhaul for misgendering her was already indicative of what I'm going to get at in a sec, and obviously it was especially relevant because it was a direct show of respect and support from people who very clearly cared about her (and who called her big sis already as it was!!) (×2 imo because Twice was intentionally written to be the readers' insight into the LOV, and the character with whom they were supposed sympathise with the most at/since the beginning, so it's especially important that the first one who spoke up was him), but the story's progression (especially in recent years) is what most assures me that despite a rather poor execution (definitely not the best, but also certainly not the worst) Horikoshi did mean well with her. "People bound together by the chains of society always laugh at those who aren't" :(

#^ when she quotes her friend. like had the manga not gone on like it has that could have very well been a generic #We Live in a Society moment. but it wasn't. and that's what's comforting tbh #in general i think a big issue with magne from what little we know of her is that her reason for joining the lov was fighting back against #a tangibile real world issue (transphobia) vs all the other villains. whose situations Are partially real world issues as well #(eg child abuse) but they also very much present fantasy elements to them (eg toga's treatment due to her quirk)#and i'm not saying this as a justification for killing her off but. when you're writing a superhero comic with a target audience of young #cishet men it is much easier to present them with fantasy solutions to fantasy problems. again not that i think it's right!!!#but i do assume that horikoshi's thought process was more or less this. like. tiger is there alive and well #but he passes and was confirmed to be trans only via word of god so his identity has no bearing on the story itself #while magne's did. which doesn't make tiger's transness any less ''real'' than hers ofc but again i think it was a matter of what horikoshi #could actually deal with (fantasy problems) with the average readers that he has. it sucks all the way around.#which begs the question. trans people face so many legal challenges such as medical gatekeeping and health insurance troubles, and yet we always come back to this stupid fucking sports drama that does not matter AT ALL because its the one arena where transphobes can feel like they have a "point" shitting on us.

and honestly, instead of being like "here's xyz reason why we should rethink the idea of gender being the main category divider in sports rather than weight or strength classes," "a lot of gender division in sports is wholly unnecessary and rests on devaluing women," or "hormones make these differences much smaller and are far less relevant than other advantages in sports such as height", all of which are like, not bad arguments, but they continue the discussion.

i honestly think its in our best interest to just be like. hey. hey guys. this is a distraction. trans people, especially our youth, are currently facing a fuckton of legal and gatekeeping barriers to be themselves. in many places its illegal or near-impossible to get similar hormones that cis dudes get for balding and cis women for menopause, which makes it difficult for us to blend in safely in society, which means we are at a much greater risk of discrimination & hate, not to mention the psychological gender dysphoria that many face - which is tripled without a strong support system.

and you're talking about SPORTS?

The problem with bigots, is they think a marginalized person's existence and human rights should be a moral debate, and even if they start getting aggressive with you, if you show any emotional response, they act like not being a robot means they're correct to hate you and act like anything short of unlimited patience with hatred means their input is more valid.

When someone's taking matters that are literally life and death for another person, they can't accept our pain and hurt their words have caused, even if from someone else's mouth in the past. When engaging with an aggressive bigot, they already don't see you as a human, and what they're speaking on is something they only know propaganda on.

They don't understand, some don't want to, and these issues don't affect them like they do the people they're already set to hate.

They're really gonna convince a whole lot of people in the US that trans people are inherent threats to children, and will justify locking us up or worse
