HIII!! can i ask, how do you write Mordecai Heller?? THANK YOUU!!

hmm Ill try to answer this best I can and try not to ramble too long but we'll see how that goes... Im not gonna act like im an expert or whatever, this is just my thought process ig? ALSO Im ace and so is he, and I add my own experiences into my writing. Anyway the long version here:

so first thing's first!! READ THE COMIC ALSO THE SIDE COMICS ALSO ALL THE EXTRAS bc esp the extras, you get to see a lot of his personality pre-Marigold. It's two very distinct points in his life - I'd venture to say that pre-Lackadaisy and early Lackadaisy Mordecai are also very different (and that makes sense - he was a kid, and he was with the Lackadaisy crew for 7 years). He has a very distinct character progression that in my opinion is very interesting and well-written!

actually, p much all lackadaisy characters are well-written, but mordecai is a fun case because he just has so much going on: his social skills are abysmal, and he doesn't seem to find it a problem. he has committed brutal murders and executions and considers them 'just business'. he doggedly pursues discrepancies. he fixates on things being neat and symmetrical if possible. He can deal with things not being that way, for a time (note when he's covered in bloody and filthy from a job, he doesn't freak out - because that's Business (tm) and he can just wash up anyway. But a driver getting a snot mess all over the car he has to drive in all the time? Unforgivable.) he grew up in squalor and has a serious phobia of spiders and rats. He's emotionally repressed in more ways than one. He's queer and is deeply uncomfortable with people (especially women) touching him or showing interest. He still thinks about his sisters fondly. he also thinks they're better off without him. He actually found a friend (or more) in Viktor and he'd never, ever, ever say it, and his way of keeping his friend out of crime and 'protecting' him was by shooting his kneecaps. his sense of humor is crap, and he doesn't understand why his mannerisms would be considered amusing. he got into crime at a young age, doing gangster's finances for them. as a kid.

im missing some other tidbits, but you get it. the dude is real interesting to think about and write, to say the least.

I think a lot of writing mordecai, esp if you're writing a more romantic fic or even if it's just platonic - he's so closed off! part of why the Savoys are so interested in him is they've worked with him a year and he just doesn't loosen up or talk much about himself. he and viktor knew each other seven whole-ass years and you think they ever talked about their families? how they came to know atlas? what they thought about the job? granted, Viktor is just as closed-off himself, but you get what im saying. he has a serious problem with letting people in, and part of writing him is getting a crowbar and figuring out which spot to put it in and bend it juuuust enough to open something up.

ok that metaphor went somewhere weird, but you get me. and, if im being honest, a LOT of what i channel is my own asexual experience. I used to be very touch averse, especially to the opposite gender - to the point where i'd panic if I felt a man was "too close" (i.e. less than 2 feet) and "lingering" (aka minding his business). I didnt mind my friends hugging me, but I didnt really like the cuddle sessions my female friends wanted to do, and after a point, I disliked hugs from my male friends. if a guy was crushing on me? Hell no, he wasnt going near me, even if I thought he was cute too (when I was younger I DEF had a thing for my female friends too, but i registered that as 'gaaaaal paaaals' for the LONGEST time until I accepted I was bi) There was like - an undercurrent of fear and anxiety. It took me a long time to identify why. while other people seemed delighted when people they liked held their hands and hugged and kissed, it sent me into a panic.

eventually i figured out my thought process: physical affection will inevitably lead to sex, and bc i thought i was straight, there was the terrifying thought of ... oh god if i date a guy he'll expect me to have sex. oh no oh no oh no-

(and no, no one taught me much about consent or taking things slow or talking to your partner. i had to figure it out, which sucked.)

all this to say ... when I write Mordecai, especially in a romantic sense, I kind of channel that anxiety I felt in my teens and early 20s. and like, this is the 1920's!!!!* Not to mention his upbringing, and of course his line of work - where he definiately cant have feelings getting in the way of murdering someone. I think this adds up to someone whose repressing themselves - their sexual thoughts (or lack thereof), memories of family, romantic thoughts, platonic thoughts, and so on.

I like to think - again, this is fanfiction, I seriously doubt it'll come up in the comics - in a romantic relationship (or even an intense platonic one), he gets intense about it. Because Mordecai is an intense guy - you can't hatchet up someone "because i was told to", or kneecap a friend you wanted to "protect", or switch sides to your father figure's rival and pretend like you betrayed everyone just to investigate that father figure and not be, uh. some kind of Intense. I often think that, in a relationship, his jealousy and confusion/apprehension around affection and sexuality would be just as intense. And eventually, the feelings of loyalty and devotion ... once he finally lets himself have it. Because I also think, to some degree, he doesn't think he should have it - just like he thinks his sisters and mother should just leave him behind.

when im writing him in the romantic sense - as I began to accept and understand my sexuality, and talk through my feelings with my partner (also generally have better mental health, my touch averseness got a lot better.** Again, Im also kind of projecting my feelings and experiences onto Mordecai regarding this. I like to think that, once he really trusts someone and allows them to touch him, other barriers begin to tumble down. its like raw nerves being touched sometimes, but he steadily gets used to it and eventually takes solace in it (now getting him to ADMIT that srfjsdfs--)

anyway! As always, fanfic is fanfic. You are free to characterize this murdercat however you wish. These are just the jumbled thoughts that run around in my brain.

* Asexuality, like homosexuality and many shades of queerness, was considered an illness. IF anyone even acknowledged asexuality at all - its definition and terminology hadn't really caught on until the 1970's, though the Kinsey scale attempted to address it (and Jennie June attempted to write and define this in the 1920s, but I seriously doubt her writings were widespread).

**A stranger can brush past me or put a hand on me and I only have a few seconds of anxiety. My friends and family can hug me for a while, or I can cuddle up to them. I don't mind my husband cuddling or kissing me at all anymore; he's actually the one person I can tolerate sustained affection from. A huge part of this change came from accepting and understand my asexuality as part of me. I wasnt "messed up" and "broken".

Mustering a coherent thought was proving more difficult by the minute.

Dave paced back and forth in the stuffy hospital room, urging his body to keep moving; he was afraid that if he stopped, the bone-deep exhaustion would overtake him and he’d never get up again.

He rubbed at his face; his palms were a bit too warm to his liking, and slightly clammy. He and the others had been up for about sixty hours now, and the modafinil wouldn’t keep them awake much longer. They’d soon be due for a new dose.

After scanning the other sicko in the back room, Linda has figured whatever was causing people to die only kicked in when the subject entered REM sleep. She’d kicked them out and had been hauled up in an office since then, trying to figure out a way for them to get some shut-eye without entering that particular sleep cycle.

It… wasn’t going so well, if the frustrated groans coming through her door were any indication.

Dave sighed, massaging his temples; he could feel a pretty bad migraine incoming. Maybe he should go ask Linda for some ketoprofen…

But then something moved in the corner of his vision, and his whole body froze; a quiet, high-pitched giggling slithered its way into his ear, eerie and invasive.

Daviiiiiiiiiie~

“No,” he choked, eyes widening. He felt his heart beating hard and fast in his ribcage, something cold spreading into his bones. “No, no no no fuck no please no-”

His vision swam, growing in and out of focus as his breathing got faster and shallower. He could see dark, undefined shapes appearing all around the room; on the beds, on the shelves, all over the floor and even the ceiling-

“It’s not real,” he mumbled to himself, clenching his fists; his nails dug into his palms, the pain barely keeping him from falling apart here and now. “It’s not fucking real. Linda said this would happen. I’m just losing my shit. ‘S not real, not real, not real…”

The night guard kept repeating those words like a mantra as he propped his back against the wall; he slid to the floor, his legs shaking too hard to support his own weight any longer. He closed his eyes but the giggling didn’t stop, growing louder and louder; it was coming from every corner of the room now. The little fuckers were taunting him, mocking him, toying with him-

He felt something brush against his arm and he almost screamed. He bit his lip to keep the sounds in, burrowing his head in his arms, forehead pressing so hard against his knees that strange colors danced in the darkness behind his eyelids. “Shut up,” he whined, his right hand reaching mindlessly into his coat pocket. “Shut up shut up shut up shut up- ”

His hand came back out clutching a red, worn down swiss army knife. He didn’t register what he was doing in his panicked state, his body moving on autopilot.

And when the blade slashed against his forearm, it almost took him by surprise.

His head snapped up, eyes flying open in shock and pain, mouth opening up in a strangled gasp; he felt like a drowning man, reaching out to the surface to gulp down sweet, precious air. The burning sensation on his arm cleared the fog surrounding his mind somewhat, the giggling receding to a barely noticeable whisper.

Dave blinked, his fevered gaze slowly settling on the angry red line on his skin; dark red pearls were already forming to the surface, growing and growing before dripping down like crimson tears, down his forearm and onto the dusty carpet below.

A part of him knew how fucked up it all was. But somehow, this felt almost comforting. Grounding. It had made them go away…

Unfortunately, it didn’t last long. As the sharp pain faded to a dull throb, the hallucination came back full force, if not even stronger than before. So, in a desperate, dazed attempt to make it stop, Dave drew another line down his arm. Quick, silent, methodical.

Soon enough his skin was marred with shallow cuts, red lines criss crossing along his wrist all the way to his elbow. He held it out in front of him as he sliced and slashed and cut, his body rocking back and forth, back hitting the wall in a steady rhythm. His arm was growing numb, bright red pooling on the floor and blooming on his shirt and it hurt it hurt but the voices were keeping quiet-

“Dave? You in h- oh shit! ”

He snapped out of his trance; Mateo stood frozen in the doorway, wide charcoal eyes boring holes into Dave’s soul. The night guard jerked back into the wall, cradling his sliced-up arm against his chest protectively. His mind was still all muddled and weird, but one thing he knew for sure was that he really, really didn’t want anyone to see him like this.

Especially not him. Not Mateo.

Dave only watched, eyes wide and arm throbbing with white-hot pain -fuck, the numbness was going away- as his best friend took a small, hesitant step towards him, his arms raising in a placating manner.

“Okay man,” the latino breathed out, ”I ain’t gonna ask, ain’t gonna say anything. Can you just please let go of the knife?”

Dave only blinked, too stunned to respond. Everything felt cold and distant. God , he was so tired. At least the voices were gone. Had Mateo scared them away?

In a daze, he let the taller male kneel down next to him and gently pry the knife away from him before taking hold of his arm. Mateo examined the bloodied cuts still dripping onto his friend’s clothes, then hummed. “Yup, those need to be patched up fast. I’ll get Linda.”

He shifted to get up and run to the office the nursed had hauled herself into, but let out a startled gasp as Dave grabbed his arms and pulled him down. The smaller man clawed at his back and squeezed himself against his broad chest.

“W-wow there dude, what-” Mateo stammered, his face heating up somewhat; but he was too worried about his partner’s state to pay any attention to that detail: Dave’s breathing was too fast, too loud. The bleeding seemed to have ebbed to a stop -thank fuck the cuts weren’t deep- but it still looked painful as all hell.

“M’s-sorry,” the man wheezed. He was shivering. “I j-just wanted them to s-stop…”

Mateo’s eyes softened in understanding. He let out a small sigh and wrapped his arms around his partner, securing him in a gentle hold. “S’alright,” he said softly, “I get it. I really do. Just breathe for me, okay? You’re okay.”

He held him until the man’s trembling faded, stroking his back soothingly. By the time his breathing came back to normal, Dave felt absolutely drained; he let out a tired sign and let his eyes slip shut, going limp against the latino.

“Wh- Dave?” he heard Mateo call out, panic seeping into his voice, “Shit, don’t-”

He weakly slammed his fist against the taller man’s arm with a noncommittal grunt, assuring him he was awake and aware.

“Oh thank fuck. Don’t pull this shit on me man, you almost gave me a heart attack!”

Dave chuckled; Mateo’s ramblings and teasing never failed to ground him. The man was like an anchor, keeping him sane through even the most violent storms.

His best friend. And his last in the world.

“Ya need a minute?” the latino asked.

Dave hummed. Mateo’s chest was warm and inviting, his steady heartbeat lulling him into a pleasant drowsiness. He knew they’d have to get up soon, before sleep could claim him; but he wanted to bask in the comfort for just a little bit longer.

“Heh, fine. But not for long, y’hear me you lazy asshole? We still need to patch you up.”

“Mmh.”

The silence stretched for a couple seconds. Mateo’s hand left his backside, settling itself on top of his head. “…I thought I’d lost you.”

Dave cracked his eyes open, peering up curiously at his friend; his face was frozen into a stony expression, staring at the wall in front of him. A strange light flickered in his gaze; something painful. “I already lost so much, y’know? I’ve told you it all already.” he said, a bit too casually for it to be genuine. He looked down at Dave. “So if you think I’m gonna let you go without a fight, think again you lil’ shit. You’re stuck with me. So if I catch you doing that shit again, I’m gonna kick your ass so hard you’ll shit backwards for the rest of your life, got it?”

Dave blinked, warmth blooming somewhere inside his own chest. He nodded, gulping down the knot in his throat. “Okay, geez… “

Mateo smirked, fondly patting his hair. “Damn right. Now let’s get off our asses, my legs are going numb.”

Modern elronbarduil. Bard is a cab driver, Thran is a the CEO of his own company, who just happens to be blind, and Elrond is an ER doctor. Now Thran some how gets injures at work but instead of call an ambulance, he calls a cab because he doesn't want to make a fuss. Bard is the cab driver and is worried about Thran, so offers to help get him inside the hospital and stays with him. Elrond is the doctor attending Thran.

//I am sorry but I didn’t make Thranduil blind in this one. I did, however, have a lot of fun writing this so this is where my confidence crashes and burns because now the world wide web get to read it... or ignore it ahahaha.

THIS IS THE LONGEST PROMPT I’VE WRITTEN TO DATE! 

Honestly, Bard had not expected his first fare of the afternoon to be a man bleeding from the temple, a well dressed, suited and booted kind of high flying exec kind of man… He was really bleeding, and from the rear view mirror he could not quite see where the blood was coming from but it ran down the man’s face with ease and dripped onto the grey suit he wore steadily.

“Uh… I know you’re not ok but are you ok?” Bard asked turning round to look at his customer properly, the guy was beautiful, angel fallen from Heaven masquerading as a man, beautiful.

Long straight blond hair, nearly white, piercing blue eyes and flawless skin, a jaw that could cut glass and all those other analogies that described the classic beauty of men.

Pale as milk though, either he had been bleeding for quite some time or he did NOT like the sight of blood, either way it was concerning.

The blond looked startled when Bard spoke, as though he had expected the cab to be self driven rather than by a flesh and blood human with thoughts and feelings. He lifted his hand to touch the blood and it smeared over his fingers staining the pale skin easily, all the while nodding slowly as though this was common place and he bled all the time from the head.

“So… Where do you need to go?” His whole body felt tense, this kind of felt like one of those scenes from a movie where he is infected by a virus and becomes a zombie because he just HAD to help the pretty one.

That’s how they get you, the zombies, they show up being pretty humans all the while the virus is working through them and suddenly you turn around to check on your passenger and BAM Zombie time and you’re dead.

He reeeeally hoped this guys asked for a doctor or a ride to the hospital because, damn, he was losing blood like no tomorrow.

Bard made the executive decision that he was taking the man to the hospital regardless and put the car in motion, not explaining his actions though he realised he was not asked any questions, or given any instructions… it was then Bard realised that the guy must have been in shock.

Once at the hospital Bard parked up, threw some money in a parking meter and eased the silent, still bleeding, man from the car, he spoke softly as if to keep this blond stranger at ease, as though he was some kind of easily spooked horse.

He looked like he owned horses, like 10 of them and had a son called Tarquin and they placed croquet on the lawn of their massive mansion.

Probably had house staff too.

Bard realised that was unfair, just because he wore a nice suit didn’t mean anything, he had a nice suit too, it was reserved for funerals and weddings, he had one and only one and when he wore it people thought he was important too, and not a cab driver in a city where his face blurred together with thousands of other brunet men with beards….

Further problems arose when he tried to check the man in to see a doctor, he had no idea what his name was, or even some semblance of an address, he barely registered the street he had been on when the blond had climbed into the car.

So far the only thing that had shown Bard the guy was aware of anything was when he nodded earlier, and he was sure that was just an automatic response to the question ‘Are you ok?’, because most people nod when asked that question.

Apparently standing at the reception of a hospital was good luck because a doctor ran towards them yelling something that was probably a name, ah, yes it was a name.

“Thranduil, oh Gods, what happened to you?!” This doctor was handsome, did beautiful people just attract other beautiful people, was this a cult?

While Bard stared at the two of them in bisexual, the brunet doctor that had jogged toward them turned to Bard for an explanation, and all Bard could do, and he did it so eloquently, was shrug.

“He got into my cab just bleeding like crazy from the head, he hasn’t spoken a word so I thought I would just bring him here…”

“You did the right thing, I will take things from here, thank you for your caring for him-” He was cut off as he tried to lead Thranduil off, the blond reached out and grabbed Bard by the wrist and would not move until he did.

“Ah, it seems you are coming with us, even in shock he recognises a catch when he sees one.” Inappropriate time to flirt when his friend was just stood silently bleeding like some kind of silent haunted house actor…

Were they friends?

Still, someone thought he was handsome, even though they both looked like Gods walking the earth amongst mere mortal men. Bard realised he had to take what he could get, even if it was a fleeting flirting opportunity from a doctor.

Before he could speak Thranduil, weirdly nice name, tugged at Bard and pulled him closer to his side, he slung his arm over his shoulder before his legs gave way and both Bard and the handsome doctor moved to steady him.

“Maybe he needs to sit down…?” Bard suggested and the doctor, who had the humility to look embarrassed, nodded and steered the weakening man toward a private room.

Thranduil was put on a bed and the doctor, who finally introduced himself a Elrond Peredhel, saw to the wound, he explained that wound was not deep but were it was situated was causing the blood to flow easily, the skin on the scalp was thinner he said.

Bard had no idea about any of this stuff so he just nodded.

“This man is not supposed to be working, this man is meant to be on bedrest.” Elrond quipped, the dig at his patience apparently brought him back to himself and Thranduil managed to roll his eyes, he looked to Bard and gave a soft smile.

“Thank you.” He whispered, his voice so damned deep and velvety and amazing, oh man, Bard needed to sit down after two words. He pulled himself round long enough to pull a chair up to the bedside and sit by the blond.

“I admit, you scared me back there in the taxi being all silent and bloody, I had visions of you trying to slit my throat or something.” It was a ridiculous thing to say and he regretted saying it instantly but the sound of Thranduil’s quiet laugh eased his insecurities for a moment.

The blond winced as though laughing hurt him, and Elrond placed a hand on his shoulder to soothe him as he worked on cleaning the wound, some of Thranduil’s hair was now stained red from the blood, but he did not seem to care all that much, or he hadn’t realised.

“I owe you so much, I could not speak and yet you brought me right where I need to be with who I need to be with.” Elrond and Thranduil shared a loving smile between them and Bard put the pieces together.

Husbands. Probably.

Well, they had flirted with him so they seemed relaxed so maybe very long time husbands?

Not that it mattered.

“Also thought you might have been a zombie.” Bard admitted quietly, which had Thranduil laughing again, and Gods it went right to his centre.

He suppressed a pleasant shudder, ignoring Elrond's knowing look.

“A zombie only before his morning coffee,” The doctor started, he rested a hand on Thranduil's shoulder before he spoke again, “Did you just swoon?”

This time Bard was the one to have the decency to blush and look away from the two.

"Ah, I thought so, he has that effect on everyone. Though so far you are the only one sensible enough to grab a chair and to respect that he may be in a relationship.

It's alright, you can flirt with him.

You can flirt with both of us."

Well, that was… interesting. So far Elrond had been quite vocal about his interest in Bard but Thranduil hadn’t said anything, and Bard was not sure it was alright for Elrond, even if he was married to the blond, to just offer the others affections so easily.

While in thought the two took the opportunity to whisper between themselves, some sort of debate, Bard wasn’t actually listening.

Eventually he made the decision that it was time for him to go. He had to earn a wage and sitting around in a hospital was losing him rent money for the month.

“Now that I know you’re alright I should probably go. I still have a job to do and while I do not necessarily have a boss I still need to make sure I make enough that I don’t have to work too late tonight.

It was great meeting you both even given the circumstances.

I hope you manage to keep him on bedrest this time.” Bard looked to Elrond as he said the last part and he got to his feet ready to depart.

“Thank you, again for bringing him here. I truly hope we meet again.” Elrond spoke with as much sincerity as he could muster without it sounding as though he was mocking Bard.

With that they parted ways.

It was a month after that Bard saw the two again.

He had been playing a zombie apocalypse game while the car idled at the side of the road, there didn't seem to be much foot traffic where he had parked up so he took the chance to try and level up his mobile game.

When the door opened behind his seat and someone slid in he paid them no mind, he was going to wait until they'd settled before he gave them any attention, that was until…

A pair of hands slid to his shoulders and squeezed almost pinching him.

Then a rumbling voice in his ear spoke.

“Still hoping for zombies, are we?” The tone amused and, dammit, the shiver that spiked down Bard's spine… the hairs on his arms stood on end and his heart beat leapt to a pace faster than he believed ever possible.

“Thranduil, leave him alone, he looks like he might have a heart attack.” Oh, yeah, it was definitely the dream duo he had absolutely NOT been thinking about since they first met… Elrond Peredhel and his husband Thranduil.

Two fantastically beautiful men that had taken a shine to Bard as though he wasn’t some grimy cab driver with untamed curls and  bags under his eyes that could fill a baggage claim at Heathrow.

Doing his best to calm himself before he looked round, he sighed inwardly when the blond let go of his shoulders to sit back in his seat, Bard took a cleansing breath as quietly as he could and turned to offer the couple a bright smile.

“Well, hello, you two. Long time no see… so, where am I taking you tonight?” It was 6pm and the sun was sinking behind the high rise buildings around them- the night would come alive soon enough and Bard actually wanted to get home before any party-goers tried to hail him for a ride.

“Well, we were just going to go home but maybe coffee first, we’d love it if you could join us?” Elrond slid an arm around Thranduil’s shoulders as he spoke and pulled him so they were right up against one another side by side, their shoulders right down to their feet touching down one side.

“Uh… well, I was just going to go home after this fare…” Bard trailed off at the, frankly sorrowful, disappointed look he was given from both of them, so rather than argue he just nodded. “Alright, where would you like to go?”

They ended up in a small coffee shop, it advertised that it was open all night long and so far it was fairly quiet, Bard suspected the usuals that haunted the place would show up at the wee hours of the morning, sporting smudge make-up, tousled hair from brief intimate encounters and being more than just hungover as they sipped hot coffee full of sugar and cream before they could even begin to think of heading home…

It seemed like a trendy spot, Thranduil and Elrond stood out like peacocks against the vintage surroundings in their crisp fitted shirts and, what was probably, ridiculously expensive slacks and boots.

Smart casual.

Yet they looked across as Bard as though hungry hyenas and he was dinner for the night.

Hadn’t they just eaten?

“You don’t have to look so scared of us, but… we did have a proposition for you if you would be so kind as to allow us a moment to explain?” Thranduil began, he picked up a drinks menu from off the table in front of him and perused it casually, his eyes flitting to Bard occasionally and he offered a very sultry smile.

Bard felt nervous, like a bug near a venus fly trap but he was also a little hot under the collar, he didn’t image a look could ever have that effect on him but… well… there he was flushed.

The ye olde expression of ‘Mark me down as scared and horny…’.

“I’ll cut to the chase, let you breathe a little afterwards. We like you Bard,” Elrond began, he waved away a waitress that approached with a genuine smile before turning back to Bard. “We are a couple but we were hoping your interest in us was not solely a fanciful day dream. Thranduil and I would like to take you out and, perhaps with time, you would accept us, even love us and let our duo become a trio?” There was a long pause after Elrond said his peace and so Thranduil and he ordered drinks, and after a moment coaxed an order out of Bard.

He felt as though a hurricane had rushed over him and he was left windswept and out of breath.

Were they suggesting a three way relationship?

He had to admit, and admit it very quietly, even in his own head, that he had thought about that would be like… they seemed fun and flirty, but what were they like behind closed doors?

He didn’t feel threatened by them or actually afraid, and gods, he had seen the look of love they had shared between them back at the hospital.

Could that be him?

“I want to get to know you both better.” The words blurted out, his mouth and brain had not discussed this and yet there he was talking, all the while his brain is in disarray ‘We talked about this mouth, you have to run things by me first!’ but again his mouth ignored his brain and he spoke again.

“I am interested in both of you, I want to try this.”

All hope was lost for his mouth and his brain logged out for the rest of the evening.

With his acceptance of the couple, Elrond and Thranduil moved to sit next to him, one on each side, they wrapped their arms around him and welcomed him in to the fold.

“We shall show you a good time,  so much so that you could not imagine being without us, let us love you.”

...and so, he did.

a minute to ten.

She checked and rechecked the file before sending it in and almost bolted for the door when the clock on her PC registered 10pm. She has a date with her closest friends, a date she had been forced to attend to rather than stay at home and read. She was anxious to get it over with.

She dashed to the powder room, ignoring the catcalls of the guys who had been trying to get her attention for as long as she could remember. She looked into the reflection of herself in the mirror. The hair, expensively cut and colored, curled just above her braline. She dragged a hand over those curls and muttered a thank you to a very good friend who talked her into having her hair done. She learned a long time ago that the best way to end the conversation is to just give in and this time, she felt that it was worth it. Her makeup was immaculately done. Her eyes exuded nothing less than sensuality with a hint of mystery that makes a person want to look deeper into those dark brown eyes. Her lips, soft and smooth and bloody red, radiated only sex. Yes, she is a stunner but she doesn't know about it.

She took another moment to talk herself into not canceling the date. She has to go. She'd regret later. She took one long look at herself in the mirror and willed herself to smile. The smile came out as somehow awkward, a sure sign that the smile came rarely for her lately. The smile is gorgeous, and it can also be beautiful if only it reached her eyes. For a moment, she was worried. Maybe she shouldn't go after all. She'll call in sick. She'll bore them to death if she'll go... "Pull yourself together." She then came out and started walking to the lobby where she was supposed to meet her friend.

*** Her friend called out to her and earned stares from the people going in and out the main entrance of the building. And before she could even speak, she was enveloped in a tight hug, warm and sweet. She grinned. It was silly of her to even think she won't be enjoying her date.

"why so excited?" she asked her friend. "Oh nothing. I’m just excited to have a date with you. I haven't done this, like forever."” "Shut up. I always see pictures of you on Facebook. You're everywhere. You're at every event." "True. But it was always without you. How is that so? You know, I’ve missed you."

Shit. She expected this. But still it hurts.

"Ahm. I've been busy." "uh-huh. Busy." "What? Being an editor and a writer at the same time with deadlines written on every available dates on your calendar, sure can make a person busy." "I know.."” Lea all but rolled her eyes. "I didnt say anything." "In words. But your eyes say it all." "You're a paranoid. That is why you really need to go out. Seriously, people are starting to wonder if you're still alive or what." "Im only giving in ‘cause I know it's the only way for you to shut you up and stop bugging me." "Whatever. Ready?" “"I guess."

*** The flowers -- they were everywhere. Pink roses -- all available shades of it either in short clear vases or arranged in baskets -- were so fresh and vibrant. The sight -- so breathtakingly beautiful -- lifted Savannah's spirit to its highest. For the first time in a long time, a smile crept into her face. The first genuine.

"Is someone getting married here? They're so beautiful! How I wish they're all for me." Laughing, her friend Lea hugged her and led her to one of the vacant tables that held a bouquet of those same long-stemmed roses.

A simple note, barely visible in the heart of the bouquet, simply said, “happy birthday.”. The handwriting seemed familiar enough to form a frown between her brows. And while she's trying to remember as to whom it belongs to, a distant radio sounded. And it probably would have broken her heart if she weren't holding the flowers...It brought back memories, memories that she tried so hard to bury long ago. Confused, she turned and scanned the crowd for her friend. A little crowd have gathered in addition to the employees who were going in and out of the building for the shift rotation.

She doesn't need attention. She hated being the center of attention. In fact, she loathed it. But the flowers, and the note, brought the attention of the many to her. That made her feel uneasy.

She started into the crowd, searching...

And there she found him...

Or her heart found him first...Her heart sensed him first...With just the tip of his hair, she knew that it was him. The same hair she fondled a million times. She couldn't believe, wouldn't believe, that he was actually there. Just a few steps away from her...

No. She's just hallucinating. It cannot be. This is stupid. Plain stupid. the whole idea is stupid. And desperate. She has to go. And punish herself for even saying yes in the very idea of going out with friends.

She ran...pushed her way through the crowd...Her tears blurring her vision...Her heart breaking piece by piece as she went...She heard his voice call her name and for her, it was still a dream...She continued to run, desperate for escape...The yank from behind had her screaming "no".” She felt like she was drowning.

"Please don't run away." She's drowning in her tears now. And she ached from inside-out. Every part of her recognized the arms that kept her close, the scent of the man she love, the rightness of it all...But her tears continued to flow...’coz her heart doesn't want to believe anymore. Answering her thought, the hug just got tighter.

"Please." The anguish radiated, vibrated, penetrated her heart. Whatever walls she built came tumbling down. Her heart...It swelled for him. Welcoming him right back in... "I love you." She started to turn. But he wouldn't let her. “"No, please listen." " i was a coward. I was stupid. I should have waited. I've hurt you. I've let you down...I tried, oh Savannah, I tried to prove to myself that letting you go is not a mistake, that you were never a loss...but no...living without you is living in hell everyday...And I want you so much. I need you." She turned and he took her face into his hands. Brown eyes meet brown eyes, and they spoke of undying love. The feelings blossomed and overflowed and was felt by everyone around them. "I love you." And down on one knees he went. "Please give me another chance."

Savannah just stared into that very same face, the face of the man she love, the only one. The world stopped, and in that moment, they were infinite. She tried to recall the pain, the nights she had to cry herself to sleep, but nothing...She recalls nothing. Every bitter memory vanished just by him being there.

"You're an idiot." " i know...I---" And she grinned...And he knew...and forgetting the world, they kissed... "I love you." The grin widened. "I know that now. Welcome home John."

She heard her friends calling out her name...and she woke up in the bitterness of it all...realizing it was only a dream. A single tear escaped her eyes and she glanced over the clock...it's 9:59.

Allstate was supposed to compensate me for X amount of damage done to my car by the driver who had insurance upto 5 grand. Notice that I did not have insurance with AllState but that because the driver was at fault, and had coverage of upto $5000, AllState has agreed to pay me a portion of that 5 grand. However, the problem is the driver who was at fault is not agreeing to this and demands more in loss from AllState. Whereas, although, I myself deserve more in damage since the car was worth more than the amount I am being compenstated for, I have still decided to settle for less. Now because the driver is delaying the decision to accept the remaining amount out of 5 grand, this case/claim has not resolved SINCE 2010. They wouldn't send me check yet only because the driver needs to accept the offer also. My theory is that whether or not the driver finds the offer fair, is none of my problem. I shouldn't have to wait for 2 years only because the driver refuses their offer. I should get my share at least. Do I have a legal case against the company for taking too long in this regards ?
