I know we don't know much about Mac Callender, but his death is quite sad and it makes me wonder. We were told in Chapter one that he died by gunshot in Blackwater and although that ain’t entirely wrong it isn’t entirely right either... He didn’t die during the shooting... He died after by Milton who shot him as a "mercy killing"... He was left, he was shot wounded and left to die, sounds familiar? John in chapter six. I can’t help but wonder maybe Dutch left him too, maybe Dutch saw Mac, knew he could save him but chose not to. I have no evidence other than the fact Dutch will leave both Arthur and John later, so why not Mac? If they were alone somewhere with no one to see, what is stopping Dutch from leaving Mac?

Yk what the biggest indicator is for me that Dutch was always Like That?

For the 1st 2 chapters of the game, there is the general consensus that eventually, they’re gonna go back for the Blackwater money. That they’re gonna scrape by for now, but when things settle down they’re going back for that money.

You know what they don’t plan to go back & get?

The ones they left behind.

Sure, they go & get Sean once Trelawny drops a rescue opportunity into Dutch’s lap, but if Sean hadn’t been moved out of town, he wouldn’t have been rescued.

You know how I know that? Bc Dutch never made a move to rescue Mac.

Mac could’ve been alive & well in jail, & Dutch never planned to go back for him, only for the money. & IK people had mixed opinions on the Callender boys but that wasn’t what stopped Dutch from rescuing him (see the mission where he sends Arthur to rescue Micah immediately). & it wasn’t that they were banned from Blackwater bc he always planned to go back for the money!

Nobody knew if Mac was still alive, which meant that nobody knew if Mac was dead either. For all they knew, he could’ve been alive awaiting trial or enduring torture - which he actually did endure, btw. But the gang was never going back for him bc Dutch didn’t approve a rescue mission.

& upon finding out Mac had been tortured to death for information he refused to give up? All Dutch had to say was, “That’s a shame.”

I should’ve known that Dutch never planning to rescue Mac would be an indication of how the rest of the game was gonna go & who he truly was.
