Splatoon 3 Side Order Theory #1: Zombie Fungus in the Square

Hey everyone! The trailer for the Splatoon 3 DLC came out yesterday during the direct and near the end of it we had a second wave teased. I present to you: SIDE ORDER! From what we've seen, we're gonna be most likely playing as Agent 8 (speculation! The octoling's hair might just be throwing me off idk.) and we're gonna be in the Splatoon 2 hub, Inkopolis Square. However, unlike present day Inkopolis Plaza where life's rushing back into it (because we're getting the first wave of the DLC soon, that wave being the addition of a second hub area: Inkopolis Plaza!), the square's covered in this weird white stuff and there's no signs of life besides the swarm of fish that comes out in the end and most likely Agent 8. Take a peek at this:

I dunno about you guys, but the white stuff in the square kinda looks like zombie fungus. I mean just look at the screen on the left side of the plaza.

The stuff in the plaza seems a bit too solid to be some kind of ink or variant of fuzzy ooze. The pattern the white substance leaves on the screen kinda looks like the pattern zombie fungus lobes have when they grow out of insects.

Also, let's adress the weird growths in the square. The growths kind of remind me of how zombie fungus grows out of insects. Here's a few examples:

With that being said, what if the stuff shown off in the trailer actually is some sort of zombie fungus? Where would it come from? How did it get there? How were the people in the square at the time affected? Well, I got a few theories:

The zombie fungus might've been grown by the masses in some sort of lab. There's no way zombie fungus could overtake an entire portion of a city like that.

At the end of the Splatoon 3 story mode, another rocket appears in Alterna, a blue one. Callie even points out the rocket's existance as if this might lead to something in the future. There's no way the addition of another rocket would just be for astetic if even one of the NPCs bring it up. I think that someone might've filled the rocket full of zombie fungus and launched it into the square or somewhere near the square. As for that person/thing that launched the rocket, that's probably a theory for another day.

Zombie fungus' main goal in life is to spread itself to other lifeforms. Perhaps the unleashing of the fungus might've been an attempt in mass genocide? Infect a large population so they can infect others? But if that were to happen then the zombie fungus might've needed to be altered genetically to have any effect on the creatures in the square.

If the fungus was strong enough, then the folks in the square might've gained a completely different look because of the fungus, gaining growths on their body and becoming a ghostly white. Because of the nature of the fungus, everyone who was infected might've had their brains rewired by the fungus and now the creatures only have one directive: infect and kill. This could give us the enemies in the DLC's story mode!

With all of this being said, that's my theory on the white substance in the square. Feel free to post your own theories in the comment section and remember to staaaay fresh!
