He's not sure why he agreed to this. That's a lie, his wife, Harmony? She'd asked him to try and be welcoming to everyone. He normally was welcoming. At the moment though, this was giving him a headache, and he wishes he had stayed home. "Look, I was just trying to be friendly." Honey was probably the most friendly in their family. "I have my own business too. I try and be neighborly to everyone who has one around here. But I'll make a note to just keep that to myself."

It was one of Rafe's parties at Tanney Hill. The whole mansion full of kooks – and then there was Barry. He was used to not fitting in with the crowds and he didn’t mind the looks he was getting from the preppy partygoers. Barry moved around the house with his usual air of confidence, knowing that he had a right to be here. He’d earned it to be here, unlike any of these rich kids. Don’t get him wrong, he had nothing against rich kids, they were good customers – good and dumb. They didn’t say anything when he’d charge them double. Though Barry hardly ever let an opportunity for business slip by, he wasn’t dealing tonight; tonight he was enjoying himself. Lounging on a chair on the patio, a pretty blonde curled up on his lap, kissing his neck, a bottle of some imported beer in his hand, he did enjoy himself. He’d met Rafe, and decided to stay out of crazy boy’s hair for tonight. The kook seemed even more irritable than usual.

Shelby rushed past Barry, apparently not noticing him. Barry frowned. It wasn’t unusual that Rafe’s girlfriend would ignore the dealer, but something about the way she looked made him frown. Something must have happened. He wasn’t sure, but he thought he’d seen tears in her eyes.

Barry shoved the blonde off his lap, ignored her pouting and took out his phone to send Shelby a text.

Barry's eyes flew open when he felt something touching his forehead, something warm and soft. His eyes narrowed as he tried to focus and make out the features of the face hovering above his. He had dozed off on the couch. He hadn’t meant to sleep this long. How long had he slept?

“What you doing, princess?” His voice hoarse from the sleep. His initial confusion fading away and a smug grin showed on his lips when he put one arm under his head, looking up at her. “Can’t sleep without me next to you, hm?”

When Shelby had appeared on his doorstep a couple of hours ago asking for a place to crash, he had just opened the door wider and let her enter his trailer. After putting clean sheets on his bed, he had retreated to his couch, where he must have fallen asleep.
