Mikey Goes To Oz

<Time spent: 49 hours 17 minutes>

When Mikey takes some time away from a loud family squabble he accidentally ends up getting “flushed” down the sewers. This winds up sending him to the colorful land of Oz where he meets a good witch, a wicked witch, a brainless scarecrow, a heartless Tinman, a cowardess lion, and a powerful wizard, all disguised behind very familiar faces.

A canon adjacent spin off set before the season one finale but after they discover Splinter is Lou Jitsu

I wanted to fit each of the boys into their “you’ve had this all along” category. Leo isn’t brainless, in fact he’s pretty clever with a street smart, people reading ability on par with Donnie’s intelligence. Donnie isn’t heartless, he just has a tough time expressing his feelings. They are complex and unalgorithic but he can get just as excited or sad or angry as anyone, as much as he may deny it. Raph isn’t a coward, but being brave sometimes means admitting you’re scared and that you maybe don’t have all the answers. You dont have to be strong all the time and you don’t have to do it by yourself.

In the movie Dorothy’s journey home is also a representation of her running away. The important thing was to remember there were people who cared about her. Mikey is experiencing a similar phenomenon, wanting the escape the bad vibes in the lair. His “you’ve had it all along” is interesting because it is an object, since the Ruby kneepads could’ve taken him home the whole time. And sometimes getting home means going on a journey only to realize you never left.

I put April as Glinda because Glinda appears as a defender of the weak, and I see April in a similar light. Always willing to help and beat someone up if it is so required. Splinter as The Wizard of Oz represents Splinters own willingness to hide behind different personas, his running from the past and the pulling back of the curtain for Mikey in timeline. The Wizard grows through the movie, albeit quickly, and ends up leaving Oz to go home leaving his legacy with the scarecrow, the Tinman, and the lion. In this case the passing of the baton to his sons.

Meanwhile Draxum as the wicked witch felt much more how Mikey sees Draxum at this time in the show, mostly just an antagonistic force who wants something from them. Fun fact: I imagine throughout this dream, Draxum is uninterested in being the wicked witch but is pressed into it via plot. Hence his disinterest in being “melted.”

Additional characters not pictured: Big Mama as the Wicked Witch of the East (those were her Ruby kneepads!!) and Todd as the Mayor of Munchkin Land. If you can think of more, feel free to leave them in the comments or tags.

Age: 32 (as of the start of ARR)

Pronouns: She/Her

Birthplace: A village in the forests lining the Skatay Range

Confident, spirited, dauntless, and wise. Some have called her deep blue eyes that entrance with their secrets and light "sensual". However, do not let Cimarra's fair features fool you. She's willing to do whatever it takes to protect her family, even if it means risking herself.

Though inexperienced in love, she refuses the temporary or one-time relationships of her clanspeople. Cimarra carries a lot of weight on her shoulders, feeling responsible for Hadrian, her little brother. This only increases when she is once again asked to step up to try and save the world.

Originally trained as a rogue before her self-inflicted exile, Cimarra took up the path of an Arcanist, and later Summoner, at the same time as when she became an adventurer in order to support and protect Hadrian. Her skill was great, allowing her to grow into a powerful Summoner. She also leaned the ways of a Scholar, although she prefers to keep that skillset secret, only utilizing it when absolutely necessary.

When the time came, Cimarra was amongst those who fought at the Battle of Carteneau. However, she escaped by herself before Louisoix cast his spell, unwilling to leave Hadrian alone. She was 27 at the time, while Hadrian was merely 10. The pair then went into hiding for the next five years following the Calamity. It was some time before Cimarra was willing to step onto the path of an adventurer again, only to find herself once more drawn into the fight to protect the world.

/"Five years of watching myself be forgotten... Seeing those I once called friend forget I ever existed... Why would I stay around for that? I couldn't." Her voice had started to tremble, the words hard to get past the lump in her throat. Even so, she forced them out. "I know it's not your fault. But I couldn't stand the pain."/

Forgotten by all but Hadrian, Cimarra has grown resigned to the fact that those she once called friend no longer recognize her. But her fondness for them has not faded, even if her guard is higher than it was before. As Hadrian is her priority, Cimarra didn't intend to rebuild her reputation to its previous height, instead taking on the less dangerous tasks while supporting the two of them. Her return to Limsa Lominsa held little fanfare. But the peace she wanted was far shorter than she'd hoped.

Little did her enemies know that an unmatched ferocity lurks beneath the surface.

i have had many different phases of favourite types of feline but it either has to be sabertoothed cats. if you are looking for a species that hasn't entirely died out then it'd have to be pallas cats right now.

sabertoothed cats because they're so fun to study. i love their anatomy. theyre so CUTE. i just love forgotten felines. secret thing about me that my husband might not even know probably but i used to be obsessed with extinct ancient animals for a period of being a kid !!!

but obviously pallas cats. they're so EXPRESSIVE? they look like they're in a constant state of anger? they frighten me to my core/aff. i lvoe them. have you ever looked at them? they look like a snow leopards lil sister.

What’s misrule about?

Misrule is the sequel to Malice.

It's a retelling of Sleeping Beauty where the princess falls in love with the evil sorceress.

Aurora is the last in the line of the royal family in Briar and Alyce is the dark grace who is a descendent of the witch who cursed the family. An emotional whirlwind ensues!

I highly recommend the duology, the second book is definitely my favourite of the two!

Oooh, my very first ask! My heart flutters! <3 With the original version of the story, it had never entered my brain. Since working on the improved "Director's Cut", the thought has crossed my mind...Briefly. I'm certain it's a 99% chance of unfortunately, no. I say that because silly fourteen year old me had intended this to be a goofy slasher household fanfic, and I do want to keep that true. I did have a thought of Jezelle Hartman from Jeepers Creepers calling Jennifer up on the phone (when it gets repaired) and warning her of vague and cryptic dangers; That she sees her with "lots and lots of air fresheners!" (the air fresheners are coming, believe me) and other frightening things...But then it occurred to me that, aw, she might not be alive anymore and I might not be able to indulge that. (Perhaps I will still indulge it, because this is the world of fanfiction, but you know~) But other than that possibility? I've been building the tale solely off of slasher characters and neighborhood/friends/victim characters. I do apologize if the answer wasn't what you had hoped to hear, but truly I must thank you again for dropping by and blessing my Ask Box. So interesting that our glimpse into "sentience" from the last update was Howdy naming off the reality of Sally's order, but he didn't seem at all distraught. Now Eddie's dealing with stress - questioning his entire purpose - and is literally dissociating between an animated and physical reality??? He is not okay???

Did Howdy go through this before, did he get "corrected" by Home in a similar manner? Or at the time of Homewarming, was Howdy not yet aware? Maybe they're not in chronological order?

Frank also breaks character from "Mr. Dear" to just "Eddie" when he doesn't get a response. His tone is different, voice lighter and frantic. I know the whole Julie/Frank bit must be a red herring because it's the Website's perspective, but I REALLY want to know how these characters exist "off camera."

What is their reality when we're not watching it??

Maybe a silly question, but why do we use ear tags for mice and not leg bands like we do for birds?

the question is better asked if you look the other way- why do we use leg bands for birds instead of ear tags? The answer is that birds haven't got ear shells to tag, or we probably would. Ear tagging is a common marking tool for many domestic species that do have ears; cows, sheep, goats, rabbits, mice, rats etc. We even clip a feral cat's ear a certain way to show at a glance they've been fixed.

The other answer is that leg bands on birds do not restrict movement of the bird while still being obviously visible without touching the bird. Now, to read it you may have to capture the bird, yes, but at a glance, you can see the bird HAS a band and doesn't need to be captured to add one. There's another way to mark birds, wing banding, which is basically the exact same item as an ear tag, but bigger and pierced through the bird's patagium skin. These are unobtrusive as well, but require piercing the skin and cannot usually be easily seen. There ARE bigger wing tags, like the ones they use to track condors, but those aren't typical for most birds, to my knowledge.

For mice, a band on the leg would inhibit movement and likely cause skin sores from rubbing as they walk. They don't walk high on their legs, they keep close to the ground for the most part (since they are tiny prey animals). It would also be more difficult to apply a band to a leg; either it's a solid band slid on as a baby (which is how they do it for pigeons) that would slide off if too big or get too tight if it fit as a baby, or it's a clamping band (like we use for the peafowl here) that would be Very tricky to use without hurting the mouse and likely couldn't be done one-handed. I cannot band the birds one handed, I have to have someone hold the bird while I do the banding. With ear tags, I can do it alone, and know that it will not cause the mouse any problems.

Now, ear tags are not the only way to mark mice (and rats). People use to do toe clipping, which is just as brutal as it sounds, where they clip off one of the toes when the mice are very young. I have never seen this used in practice, in 12 years in a research facility, but it was talked about as a thing that used to happen. There's also ear notching, which is still used for mice and, surprisingly, for pigs. There are little hole-punch looking tools that are used to snip a little notch at certain points of the ears. Depending on the placement on the ear, and which ear, the notches serve as a numbering system. There's also tail tattoos, toe tattoos, and ear tattoos! I would have liked to do tail tattooing, but with black mice that's basically useless lol

And so, ear tags are the most efficient, easiest (to apply, see, and care for), and safest method for mouse ID for most folks dealing with semi- to identical animals.

Anxiety anxiety anxiety… what can you do

Because these pages were kinda challenging both writing and layout-wise, I'd written an excerpt to hopefully explain a bit more as i don't think i expressed it too well through dialogue??

“Cogsworth still fears something bad will happen again. The psychological toll of living 10 years under the curse doesn’t just disappear overnight after all. He feels guilty that he isn’t as quickly well adjusted to normality as everyone else has, and at the same time doesn’t understand how everyone can easily forget about what just happened. This random incident of Lumière falling ill had completely frightened him- even though he didn’t catch anything serious. Although he knows in a practical sense that this is unlikely, Cogsworth still fears in his heart a repeat of the curse, or something akin, to creep up on the castle once again. During this fragile period where he is still processing things at his own pace, Lumière’s sudden collapse had caused him to spiral, with his anxieties confirming his greatest fears for just a moment; targeting his best friend as punishment. Cogsworth wishes he could stop worrying and instead celebrate this new, refreshing era with his friends, but that doesn’t come easy when you’re wired to hold a deep protectiveness to the castle and everyone in it… and a learned sense of security to the person who’s been closest by your side through it all.

Lumière is the one that’s hurt, why is he so calm about this? He’s treating it as if it's nothing. Why doesn't he care about how the others feel about his situation? Why am I reacting so much? I wish he could just get out of his own head. So selfish…”
