I’d argue that c!quackity wants to hurt people and knows he wants to hurt people - there’s the whole “you LIKE torturing me!” “maybe I do!” bit. like yeah, it’s most directed at dream and he thinks dream deserves it, but c!Dream thinks the shit he does is justified too. my read on c!q is that he wants power and he’s convinced power means that you can hurt people and get away with it. so in the pursuit of power he does exactly that.

okay, u have point but my personal read is that c!quackity is so done with being the one hurt and has realised that either you hurt or you get hurt. he hates being the weak one, the one people look down on, so he has a twisted thinking of that he needs to be the one to hurt people, so that he can not get hurt

but he doesn't realise, that that's hurting him too. he cares a lot about things without realising it, and his accidental attachment to things and him trying to detach himself hurt him so much and make him close in even more on himself

my lore brain is all scrambled from my unironic 'c!wilbur did nothing wrong' phase and this was something i never got (but now i am seeing the light of c!dreambur), but why do you think dream wanted to revive wilbur in prison? was it just a threat, or did he actually have reason to rely on wilbur? i'm behind on the dreblr analysis of this 😭

this won't be the best answer 😅 but i think it's important to remember that when c!dream was making the decision to revive c!wilbur, he was in a very very desperate place. this was about a month of daily torture because of c!Quackity, a few months of solitary confinement in horrid conditions. the actual decision was made very quickly, and he pivots from at first holding ghostbur hostage to try and get himself some leverage (because well he's very noticeably lacking in any leverage whatsoever in the prison, sam VERY literally owns him) to reviving ghostbur when he realizes that no one's going to budge.

as far as what he was expecting, well. having c!wilbur back, from his pov, was definitely a plus compared to just ghostbur being around. c!wilbur, before he died, was in an active allyship with c!dream. one of c!wilbur's last words is how proud he is of c!dream for carrying out his part of the plan. c!dream quotes c!wilbur multiple times, down to referencing the unfinished symphony, over the course of his actions post-nov 16th to his imprisonment. without many options in a literal torture box, having c!wilbur around as a potential ally was better than nothing. so i'd say that's part of what's the easiest stuff to quantify--c!wilbur was someone that dream worked with, there were never any betrayals on either side after they started working together post-vassal, and c!Dream would've revived c!Wilbur from death--something he reasonably might've expected to earn him favor from c!Wilbur

but of course, there are things that are. worth questioning, about this reliance! why the hell was c!dream expecting c!wilbur specifically to have any success in breaking into a max security prison when this guy has like zero gear to his name and like, even if he DID, no combat skills to actually fight? what abt the ways that c!dream and c!wilbur talk about their dynamic (especially post-revival), and what does it mean for the two of them? why was c!dream listening to c!wilbur in inconsolable differences? and while i have my uh c!dreambur demons (out of the c!dreamburians ik im probably the most c!wilbur negpilled, sorry anon) but i definitely encourage you to consider some of these questions for yourself :] bc believe me these two are WEIRD abt each other

I'm kind of going to go the opposite route to swordfright and say I'm not a fan of when c!Quackity is written as Pure Unfiltered Evil. Like, obviously he's not the nicest guy out there, he's done—let me check… *a lot of shit*. But it can sometimes feel similar to the treatment c!Dream gets from the fandom.

But then again, totally okay if that's the story you want to tell! The only problem is when people bring that stuff from fics to analysis; that goes for any character.

the ask from swordfright kinda compliments yours, really, and at the end of it all we get a complete statement that I think applies to all characters in the story

all characters are heroes of certain stories and victims of others, and they are definitely villains in many others. and all of that needs to be acknowledged, especially if we are to Discuss canon. it's valid to ignore parts of the character especially when we write from the perspective of someone they have a particular relationship with, but these fandom views don't have place in the actual story analysis

there is a lot of nuance to all characters on the SMP so to only choose one feels like taking two barbie dolls and waving them around

as one anon said, there is a line. and that applies to all of these

yes, c!Wilbur can be depicted as a hero in c!Tommy's eyes, but it would be stupid to ignore the emotional abuse that was inflicted in the process

yes, c!Quackity is a fucked up individual that tortured someone for fun. but he also underwent a lot of trauma at the hands of his fiancé and then when he got engaged later to someone else, they neglected him

yes, c!Dream was hurt in prison and reduced into a whimpering begging mess. but he also murdered one of the people responsible for the torture when he had the opportunity

it's cool to see people lean more into one or the other with the good/evil hero/victim/villain thing, but the main thing people seem to mind is when it's Just One and all the rest of the character is erased

does this make sense?

I was wondering what your opinion or full on analysis is about Sapnap and Quackity? also who are the banter guests with allegations? I've only ever seen the Antarctica one and one with Quackity.

Ok so this is gonna be kinda long so sorry for that anon.

I'm gonna be honest, I watched quackity before his dsmp era bc i watched the circle of Reddit react YouTubers he was friends with. But during the whole dsmp stuff I've only watched a couple of his streams and there aren't a lot of thoughts. I do think it's annoying how he still associates with the dreamteam though. He's a really smart and logical person, so he either genuinely does not believe the allegations, doesn't care, or has refused to get involved to the point where he doesn't know much about it. Idk which one it is. But all options are questionable.

Sapnap though. Hoooo boy. I was a sapnap Stan before all this anon. I was hyperfixed. I would watch every single YouTube video I'd watch all streams. I'd watch compilations. I followed him and all his alts on Twitter. I even watched the Valorant streams even though I think Valorant is one of the most boring things to watch ever.

I'm gonna be honest I disliked dream already. I knew about the republican Reddit account. I knew about the whole supporting trump until mid 2020 thing. I disliked him but had to put up with him for the sake of my streamer ig.

Then the manatreed stuff happened. The KKK edit came to light etc and I completely dropped all of them entirely bc the whole thing made me feel sick.

As for an analysis of his personality. Fair warning, I haven't watched any sapnap content since the manatreed situation happened.

But I'd say he has the potential to be decent, good. He has shown to be a ride or die friend, very caring. But he also is very ignorant and uncaring on a lot of topics. He is harsher towards women. The insults he uses when angry can be homophobic sometimes, aka the use of "cocksucker" or the time he called MCC "aids". It's probably from being a gamer since idk when. The online gaming community is very bigoted as we all know, and it's probably from how he was raised as well? Idk.

But like he's an adult now. His community contains a lot of teenagers who aren't cishet white boys who like saying homophobic jokes and giggle about it. He's had the time to adapt or even notice the things he says or does are wrong. He can and should educate himself and the gamer thing is not an excuse.

It's obvious he's insecure about shit a lot. And being a streamer doesn't help with that, but he overcompensates by being loud and trying to be extra manly ig. At least that's how I read his behaviour. Of course this isn't 100% right I can't read his mind. But like. Yeah.

The ride or die friend thing also kinda doomed him in this situation bc like. Idk. I think if you think rationally about everything that has happened. Would you really stick with a person like dream. Idk. Leaving behind friends is hard, especially since they've been friends for over a decade iirc but it doesn't make me feel any sympathy for him, bc the shit his friend has done is not some mild stuff either.

In general uh his actions are ignorant and harmful, he knowingly ignores everything and backs dream up at all times.

If he drops the Dt and gets some better friends. And also educates himself. He might become better. But like. Yeah that's not happening lmao.

Hi. I am not an anon that's appeared before, I just have a lot of thoughts about the latest chapter and need to put them somewhere. I might drop more of my thoughts in here more since character analysis is my shit but take this for now.

→ Phil

• I think he does care for Wilbur far more than he originally planned to, he seems to genuinely want to mentor Wilbur now compared to at the start of the fic where he came across as darker and more threatening. He always saw Wilbur with potential but his intentions are more good hearted if that makes sense???

• He's opened up far more than he'd need to in order to manipulate Wilbur BUT I am also considering that he could have been lying about certain aspects of his past to exploit Wilbur's fucked up childhood in getting him to trust him more. Which, fuck you Phil if that's the case.

• However there are little things that I think show the hairline cracks in Phil's little manipulation schtick. Threatening Quackity after he punched Wilbur is one. It would have been enough to tell him to lay off but the proclamation of the boys being under his protection and his is a bit overkill. Did it successfully get Quackity to fuck off? Yes but they could have gone about it in another way. That particular framing of it & putting the act of harming either of them on the same level as harming himself or Techno is hugeee.

• Another is ofc the litte bird thing & that whole wing connection they have. Even Phil himself looks to have caught the dreaded affectionate parental feelings he has for Wilbur and immediately shut down when he realised what it was. That whole thing I personally believe is way too close to home for Phil but I'm always willing to admit I'm wrong. Maybe it was just really obvious how fatherless Wilbur was and Phil went 'Watch me manipulate this' but I'm still on the side of the 'I'd teach you' wings thing is wayyy too personal and paternal for there to not be some kind of affection there, especially with his reaction afterwards.

• Either way, Phil, fuck you. Respectfully. This is messed up.

→ Techno

Ooooo boy. Techno's complicated. I am not gonna have as much to say about him, I'll have to think about it more but fuck it we ball let's go. I think Wilbur's thoughts on him earlier in the chapter are accurate; he has a goal and he's straightforward(ish) in trying to achieve it. He was very clear and open with the 'I want you to join the AE. That is my end goal'. /He/ hasn't outwardly said it but it can be found throughout the story, straight out said or otherwise implied, that they play dirty. Techno especially, he is the one constantly being connected to the Themisian texts found in the library, Phil is not mentioned with them that I recall.

• The AE leaders are meant to be kind of mirrors for the boys, Phil and Wilbur and Techno and Tommy so my brain is currently working under the assumption that 'okay. Phil and Wilbur prefer to argue rather than physically fight while Techno and Tommy are the opposite in the sense that they have more of a natural knack and skill for it than politics.'

• Obv Bedrock bros can debate and everything, they're not stupid but it's been shown multiple times that Techno does not tend to do the flowery language or the layers. He says it straight or he doesn't say shit. Phil is the main politics man.

• Does Techno genuinely care for Tommy? Yes I think he does. I think it's a situation similar to Phil where he cares a lot more for Tommy than he planned to but he's less constipated about it than Phil is the best way I can put it.

• Like, Phil shut down when he realised how much he cares for Wilbur and telling him to leave but I can't imagine Techno doing the same. Techno is awkward yes but I think he'd be more 'oh this a thing' than Phil's 'abort abort fuck oh shit this wasn't meant to happen'. Especially since Techno is mentoring Ranboo, someone who is close in age to Tommy so I'm under the assumption that he would have some kind of expectation of 'I might get attached'.

• These are not as cohesive as Phil's bc obviously we have more insight on Wilbur and Phil's relationship since stars is told from Wilbur's perspective but this is what I came up with for Techno. I could be completely off the mark but I'm willing to accept that loss, even if my heart dies.

→ Ranboo

Ohhh lord. Ranboo you are so silly. Silly little guy honestly.

• The poor kid is desperate to prove his worth. That is obvious enough from how he was grasping at straws trying to get Techno to keep him on for the spy business.

• He cares for Tommy. The asking how to calm him down could have been a way to manipulate Wilbur into opening up to him more but the little detail of him mentioning it to Techno at least confirms that is was mostly from a place of genuine concern and care though it does serve a dual purpose, even if Ranboo didn't exactly see it that way at the time.

• I don't think Ranboo is entirely malicious with this spy thing. I just think that he wanted to prove that he could be more useful to Emduo and they saw an opportunity to get an in w the princes in case they don't, especially with Tommy given how close they are in age. Tommy would be more drawn to someone his age, it's natural.

• However this does raise a question in my mind of does Aimsey have a role in this. Probably not but if we're strolling down the path of confirming Wilbur's paranoia, why not crush that part of our hearts as well?

• I don't think it's very likely but it would be interesting if the boys had no one left in the palace they could trust, bar Jack for Wilbur.

Overall, very well played Bee. Consider my heart shattered and I hope you can make some ounce of sense of my post revelation adhd thoughts. I am least confident in my Techno analysis, I will need to go over the entire fic again with my magnifying glass. Did this make me feel like I'm in English class? A bit yeah but I had fun : )

obviously I can't confirm or deny a lot of it, but i will say a lot of your analysis is very spot on. I want to leave phil's motivations in mystery for the time being, but I'll say that what you said about techno is pretty damn accurate. he's very straightforward with what he wants and also has a lot more emotional intelligence than phil does, so he handles situations involving emotions a lot better. maybe not smoothly, he's super awkward, but he handles it better than phil would.

and ranboo... yeah, he's desperate to prove his worth. I won't say if there's genuine care in there or not, that's for you guys to figure out when we see him next, but he's definitely desperate to prove himself to ae duo.

also I'll confirm right off the bat that aimsey knew nothing about this. aimsey is a very inherently good person who doesn't like the idea of using underhanded methods to get ahead, so if they had known that ranboo was a spy for ae duo they would not have encouraged ranboo's friendship with the brothers. if aimsey finds out... they'll be pissed. but of course, wilbur and tommy don't know this! they have no idea who they can trust anymore!

Lmao we like to pretend we're different but we have the guard dog au. I love the guard dog au when I'm in the mood for it don't get me wrong but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think that and really angsty protégé aus don't scratch a similar itch. It's not just the guard dog au, we have a lot of angst & a lot of angst that you could draw a parallel to c!inniter angst with very easily, and with the similarities that exist between prison and exile it's bound to happen.

I've seen a lot of stuff on the Dream apologist tag on ao3 with villain quackity etc tags. (Wouldn't say much on its own regularly but in this fandom it can be more of a shorthand for 1 dimensional evil.) If I were a c!Quackity or c!Sam main I'd probably dislike a lot more of it.

I like prison angst, I like a lot of exile angst less, but that's more due to personal and character preferences than any like, moral issue. If people like Eburnean Tommy or something, good for them and I'm glad they're enjoying themselves /gen

I just wish this fandom used character bashing as a tag like some older fandoms do instead of having like 5 different tags to filter if I want a character to be sympathetic LMAO

Honestly, I don't much go to ao3 myslef. The only fics I read were the onses recomended directly to me, so I have no idea what AU you are reffering to here, anon.

But like, I've been on Dreblr for a while, and c!Dream angst is the main cource, the desert, the drink, the salad and the soup at this place, and I have seen nobody pretending like it's not.

To be fair I am a lurker pretty much and I was so close to being a lurker with Karmaland too; the only reason I made a side blog was because I wanted to make a pun out of the url (Quackity with K of Karmaland - Kuackity).

I didn't see more than a couple of reblogs, maybe a tag or two in the future of that blog. I am usually nervous talking like in text cause I am not the most elocuent person nor the one with the best gramatic and wording.

the new addition made me really think of two specific characters that used to be part of a trio with one of them having a main part in guard dog au. but thats mainly off of vibes and with no real analysis. still i have to ask: is it c!sapnap and c!quackity?

the “except- except I dont know” sounds so like the leader of las nevadas to me. I can hear Quackity's voice in that specific tone. the uncertain labeling with the past also makes sense considering the whole fiancé fiasco and KInoko. There's quite a bit I could say matches them but I can't 100% explain how since its been a while since my last interaction with Guard Dog AU

Yeah. It’s so goddamn deliberate. On cc!Dream’s part as well—he readjusts his position, he’s pretty obviously trying to make sure he’s in frame and that the gesture can be seen. That stream fucking KILLS me. someday I gotta do a moment by moment analysis thing because there are several other tiny bits of body language and such in that scene that absolutely slay me.
