why do you think Luke would be a better protagonist? I’m curious. Tbh I’m much the same but I wanna hear your take

Luke is like. An amazing idea for a Yugioh protagonist, or at least the more *dumb* Protags. (Judai, Yuma, Yuya) From his personality, goals, cards, and what he means to the themes of Sevens

     Luke has the personality of a typical shounen anime protagonist. He’s kind, energetic, optimistic, brave, and has a very clear goal. However he has flaws that make him not too perfect or too annoying (both in being to great or too bad) Yuga never really seems like he cares about stuff. He does, but he’s not expressive or puts lots of effort into what he does. Luke meanwhile, puts 1,000% perfect of his everything into what he does. You can tell Wehen he cares, what he’s doing, and most importantly, wouldn’t hide his plans from the audience like Yuga. Both aren’t extremely optimistic, but Luke is a a lot more than Yuga 50% of the time. Luke thinks either everything will work or nothing at all, creating comedy for the audience and a certain surprise to what he’ll do. Meanwhile Yuga will look at a situation, go “oh I know what’s gonna happen here and I’ll fix it” for so many episodes it hurts.

    Furthermore, Yuga’s goal is trying to stop something (Rush Duels getting deleted), not gain. Having a goal of stopping something can cause the audience to get bored. Of course there is exceptions (Yuma and Zexal are pretty good examples of that) but Sevens isn’t one. All but 2 out of 7 antagonists aren’t against Yuga because of Rush Duels (thank you Roa and Swirly) and that is so, so repetitive. Meanwhile, Luke’s goal is gaining the King Of Duels Title, and likely also trying to stop rush duels. This creates a balance between stopping and gaining.

     Luke’s deck is very yugioh. I don’t know how else to describe it. Dragias are really cool dragons and that’s like 35% of all yugioh cards. They even change throughout the series, like how Utopia has various versions to show time and characters. “Yuga’s deck also is very yugioh” Not really. Besides the Sevens Roads he just has spellcasters, and they call back to Yugi/Atem. Luke has dragons, which are as Yugioh as you can get. The most known card is BEWD, not Dark Magician. (Not trying to hate on Dark Magician btw, bewd is just more recognizable)

     Sevens is about going against tradition. Tell me, dear reader, what Yuga does to show this past the first episode. Luke, Tatsuhisa Kamijo, is still somehow better at showing this than Yuga. He stands up with breaking tradition about every time, (every time I can find of, but it’s Sevens so probably not every single time) even with his own family. When he ran the school, he broke the rules and created it how he thought people would like. Whenever he gets ANY position of power, he changes it so people would like it. It’s just that he’s Luke, and he “assumes” people would like him. His entire relationship with his family is about breaking the family tradition and then not supporting him. Comparing to Yuga Ohdo, Luke does everything Yuga could’ve done, but didn’t. Yuga creates the Make Your Own Duel Thingy, but that’s more a plot device than an actual action of breaking the mold for people. Even then, it’s way to late to do it right at the last arc to be anything more than a plot device.

     So uh. Yeah. Is that good? Do you want more? I can keep going

Hello, I love your blueshipping fics and I was wondering if you’ve ever written mizushipping? How do any of your mizushipping head-canons inform how you write blueshipping? I’ve been wanting to write a blueshipping story but I felt like I needed to know who Set and Kisara were in the past before I could write them in the present.

Hiiii! First of all I'm so so so sorry that I've literally not answered this ask in months, I've been busy with other fandoms and only really checked this blog occasionally. Anyway I'm very glad to see you here because I recognise you from Ao3 and you've left so many lovely encouraging comments for me on there, so thank you <333

For your question, I've been wanting to write a mizushipping fic for many many years actually, but I've put it off because I always end up feeling like I'm not familiar enough with the ancient Egypt setting and all the circumstances/timeline of events. I keep meaning to watch that arc of the anime properly so I have all the details down properly, but I'm an expert procrastinator even with fun stuff so...

Anyway, I think in my mind their dynamic would be pretty similar in both past and present, because that's kind of the point. I tend to imagine them with the same kind of power imbalance between them in both settings, as well as Seto's conflict between worshipping Kisara and feeling unworthy of her while simultaneously being desperate to have her and claim her, and also his inner conflict between wanting so badly to be close to Kisara while also struggling with not really wanting to let anyone close or be too vulnerable with anyone. I really think these aspects of Seto's relationship with Kisara work just as well for Priest Seto as they do modern day Seto Kaiba, as do Kisara's mixture between being physically weak and a victim of her circumstances while at the same time having great mental fortitude and being able to bring out the best in Seto and protect him from himself.

The main thing that would be different if (hopefully when!) I write a mizushipping fic is ofc the way that Kisara's BEWD powers play into everything, because that's a given aspect of the ancient Egypt setting while it's hard to fit into a modern one. Also I think there's a potential for conflict in the way that Priest Seto is actually the one who's put Kisara in harm's way in that setting (I mean she's basically kidnapped to be used for her Ka, hello), so that would complicate things because of guilt and also a conflict of interest what with his "mission" to find people with powerful Kas and use them (and also the whole Akhenaden thing and how there's a whole other element of danger in that setting that I have to include and account for).

Aaaand now I'm getting rambly again, sorry x thank you so much for sending this ask and every so sorry for the ages it took for me to answer it (maybe the fact that I hopefully have a new Temptation chapter coming soon can make up for it?) <3

Ep 44 Pt 1: It Took 3 Damn Seasons For These Two to Meet

I’m not dead! (though my schedule and my long covid fatigue would imply otherwise) So lets procrastinate my other responsibilities and talk about Yugioh.

Seto is still stalled out like my car in the winter.

And the show decided just out of the blue that Seto has right to the throne although he’s the cousin to the Pharaoh...he’s not Yami’s older brother. That’s not really how the birthright of Kings work, last I checked. Now if Seto had married Yami’s Mother? That I know is a clear birthright steal. But uh, last I checked BEWD was not Yami’s Mom, although I would accept that headcanon.

Blue Eyes White Dragon is often shortened to BEWD and it sounds very funny to me so I apologize if I use BEWD too much. But I mean...

But like, Seto has a girlfriend, so he’s allowed to sit at the adult table at Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, Yami’s gonna have to be stuck babysitting because it’s not like he’s gonna be official with either of the two powerful women that he’s inferred to be dating. Like either the Dark Magician girl, or Tea, make your pic, both are godlike.

Or Rebecca, we can count her, too, she’s like a PHD graduate at like 12 and weirdly powerful for no reason. Also, knowing this show, she may have dated several of these people without them knowing so she’d be down.

Anyway, point is, neither Seto or Yami are the Blue Eyes White Dragon so who cares if they are connected to her? If Kissara needs to inherit the throne, she’s right over there, don’t even bother going through Seto. And youknow that’s just the show making a poor analogy for playing cards. Did they intend for it to come out that way? Probably not, but also Kissara isn’t a paper card here, she’s like a real ass woman, despite the zero personality they gave her so far this season.

So Aknadin shakes his head and was like “This isn’t how you treat your not-a-girlfriend, guys” and in one motion decided pull a Mokuba. But, instead of stealing those little star chips from season one in the middle of a card game, he just straight up stole Seto and it was very funny.

Like look at seto’s little feet in that image there haha. Seto’s just been tossed around this season place to place like a ping pong ball.

And then Bakura was like “I’m not done yet, I can do THIS!” and they watched this thing mozy down a hole at like a snail’s pace.

They just watched it slowly descend and were like “... huh. Why didn’t I think of that?”

So Yami whips off his VR headset (well, metaphorically) in order to share his grievances back at the game table. Mostly to dump on Bakura that this game isn’t any fun.

Which is shockingly low standards, we are talking about Yami.

And before I ever had to update the Death count, turns out Seto Kaiba is just fine.

I have no idea why he’s back in the city, don’t think about it, I don’t think it will ever be explained. So he wanders around lost, like he does about 80% of the time on a normal day. Just kinda wanders hoping Roland picks him up at some point.

And when a kid runs directly through his own body he starts to connect the dots about the ancient Egyptian clothing, housing, and general lack of electricity and wheels.

Which is when we finally have them meet.

That’s right, it’s been a while.

Seasons, so many seasons ago, Seto had a dream about the perfect woman, who was also coincidentally dead in his arms, and for so many years we assumed (ok I was the only one who assumed this) that Yugioh’s creators knew that they could in no way ever put these two people in the same exact room.

And then they did. Because Yugioh will never let you write fanfiction, they already do it for you. That’s right, modern Seto Kaiba ran into past Kissara in an alleyway and so lets get a gist of their true love conversation.

And no, that isn’t just me making a joke in the cap, Seto immediately says to this stranger “Girl, I saw you die. In my arms.” and she was like “lol”

And uh that was it. Again, a HUGE leap of romance for Seto Kaiba. This is truly the most romantic he’s been on this show so I can’t dock it too much. But I will dock it somewhat because it’s been so many seasons of leadup, hahaha!

I’ll have you know my bro was like “wow you stan Kissara so much” and I was like “mmm pretty sure I don’t” and he was like “uh you gave her so much more dialogue than in the actual show” and he’s not wrong. Maybe I do stan Kissara. If anything, I stan her being the true Pharaoh of Egypt.

So she’s gonna run off to find the correct Seto. But yes, she did look future Seto Kaiba directly in the eyes when he said “why should I believe you?” and say “I don’t care.”

so that’s about it for this half of this episode that took me........what 7 years to write? I’ve been having fatigue problems, long covid’s a beast, so updates will be whenever they are, but as always, thanks for y’alls patience about it.

If you follow my main, you know I've been focusing on medical stuff again. Just went for bloodwork last week. 13 pages of things to test for, I think 8 vials of blood. I finally got the results back this morning, and I've been going over them, comparing flagged things to symptoms. A few of these results could be connected to low sex drive. Not one of my symptoms, but I was reading everything anyway. These are disorders & conditions related to organ damage, where the symptoms may either be nonexistent, or just 1 symptom, or mistaken for other things, or even written off as nothing. But this actually isn't about my medical journey. That's long and confusing even to uncaring professionals, and I of course have to wait to at least see what my endo says about it all. This is cuz... I'm 35, been on this journey since I was 12, and finally staring at hard numbers from my blood that most likely mean organ damage from 29 years of untreated hypothyroidism. So I have some delicate life experience, that I hope others are willing to not bite my head off over.

...especially cuz it's June.

. But I'm also putting this HERE, on kaiba-fangirl, as a reassurance that I am not trying to write this off the other way, either. Because, my hardest headcanon for Kaiba, since 15, through all the shipping through all these years, even way back then, whenever someone would ask me who I ship Kaiba with, (& let's be real, they meant-) do I like Puppyshipping - or even alone, did I think he was gay? In 2003, I didn't know what to succinctly answer except, "I don't really think he'd be into anyone..."

. Kaiba & Joey stuff was usually hot cuz they're independently both hot. Kaiba & Serenity was just to get Joey steamed, & again both hot in fanart. Kaiba & "blue-haired-girl" (before her name was reliably translated) was just cuz BEWD destiny ancient egypt. Kaiba & Mai - just my 2 faves, so put together? Eh... 🤔 Nahhh.

. Probably 10 years later before I finally learned "asexual" & was like "FINALLY" - but not for myself. Ohhh very much not myself lol. But I finally had a word to describe Kaiba.

. So, as I hope you can guess by now, I'm (probably making a huge mistake typing this out loud) here to combine these 2 things to tell you: Low sex drive *CAN* be a medical indicator that something is wrong. And it could be a singular symptom, but a closer look at extensive bloodwork can tell a larger story. I *look* perfectly healthy. On average, I usually feel pretty fine. Which is how it took 29 years to find my hypothyroidism, during which time it's caused other organ damage (adrenal glands, kidney, pancreas. & then heart disease if I can't get my cholesterol under control, diabetes if I can't get the insulin resistance under control) & hurt my life greatly. And I don't know what treatment is going to look like from here on out.

. Yes, asexuality is valid & I even feel I do understand it. I do know it doesn't just mean low sex drive; I know you can be asexual with a high sex drive. I know it's not about that; it's about feeling sexual attraction, or not. I know it's not absolute but a spectrum. But for a lot of people, it does seem they also say they have low sex drive. And if that is so for anyone, then please do not ignore the fact that it can also be a medical symptom. You probably already know it's also a side effect of SSRIs.

. I certainly do not care who wants to claim asexual for any reason. That has nothing to do with me. But - please - don't let a hidden medical thing - like the autoimmune disorder that hypothyroidism is (& whatever else may be wrong with me) or the metabolic syndrome that PCOS is (a possibility my endo is looking into) - destroy your actual organs just because you didn't want to check.

. I'm just older & don't want anyone else to go through what I have with all of this. I have had to fight since I was 12 to get a blood test workup like this one. & it's probably cuz I'm just going to reportedly "the best" practice within 50 miles, which means no insurance & throwing a credit card at them. With gas & tolls round it to $500 first visit, $250 followups. First time in my life some of this stuff is getting tested. 29 years before my thyroid was ever tested. @ EVERYONE, get your thyroid tested. Endocrine issues are so misunderstood or little understood, can hide as so many other things, or get written off as absolutely nothing, but they affect everything in your body. It's basically how your brain tells your organs what to do. It's so important. But no one pays attention.

. I understand the sensitivity, but not everyone who tells you to check low sex drive medically is just trying to write off asexuality. I'm saying get it checked cuz too many symptoms of actually serious things get written off as nothing. THIS is the kind of "something medically wrong" we're talking about. Kinda need your other organs to work to keep your body alive to even be around to be asexual. Okay?

. And this applies to so many other things I'm seeing on these lists. Anything. Don't ignore it. Do whatever you can to see a good doctor. If reddit doesn't die, find a community there to share stories & experiences. This just seemed to be the one thing I've seen people get defensive over, taking it as only an identity thing, when there can very much be serious physical reasons behind it. Take care of yourself. 💙💙💙

yugioh au were almost everything is exactly the same, but the kiaba brothers run a small gameshop and yugi is rich instead (ironically their personalities are the same)

I actually have an AU that's like This too! Yugi is still the Protag (he still got the Puzzle and stuff), and Kaiba is still the rival character 😂

Yugi's Grandpa is the president of Kame Group, the Mutou's long-established multi-billion dollars company that focuses on video games and toys, and Yugi is the successor.

Seto & Mokuba still got "adopted"(I guess it will be more of a Forced situation where gzbr gotta "take care" of them) by Gzbr Kaiba, who was involved in gangs and the yakuza.

Yugi grew up with Luxury and much love from his family, Seto grew up with scraps and scars either from Gzbr, the older kids who don't like them, or the gang members in the streets.

They both grew up Lonely.

While Yugi's family was Loving and people like them, he didn't get many friends- or even at all. Yugi goes to private schools for kids from influential prestigious families, the kids in his class are all Distant- either they see him as a Rival for their own family's business (taught by their parents to be Wary of him) or they put him in too high a pedestal. He spent most of his time playing games alone and trying to solve the Millennium Puzzle.

Seto & Mokuba have a dream to build their own Toy Paradise, maybe someday a theme park too! Gzbr Died after he didn't fulfil a contract he made with the local yakuza and they Killed him, they took away most possessions but left the two brothers alone (they didn't think killing them is worth anything). Seto got some money saved up from all these years, the brothers decided to turn this shaby house gzbr left them to be a toy shop.

They started by selling their own creations (plushies! wooden cars! Anything!) and that's probably when Anzu & her family meet them, and the Mazakis helped them through the worst of it. (I feel like Seto & Anzu will meet probably because Anzu lived in nearby neighborhood, I also think they deserved to be Friends) The Kaiba brothers can have a proper small shop of their own and go to public schools. Seto rolled in Domino High with Anzu.

Yugi graduated from junior high and decided he had Enough of all the tightly pressed button-up shirts and blazers and ties and books too thick for him to even hold!! He dyed his hair and put on his Handmade leather collar and begged Grandpa to pLEASE PLEASE LET ME GO TO DOMINO HIGH OR SOMETHING- ANYWHERE BUT HERE!!

So he goes to Domino too- Surely attracting Attention 😂 Some kids didn't like him because they thought he's some snotty rich kid (Jounouchi, who will later learn how Yugi truly is- and become Best Buds 😂)

And Seto will have the drawing of BEWD card by Mokuba as a charm attached to his bag, and that's how Yugi Noticed him <3

My oldest was super nice and surprised me with one of the new Yu-Gi-Oh Legendary Collection 25th Anniversary Edition boxes.

I kept a few from the packs for nostalgia sake (I'm a collector only), but let him have most of the rest. We both got a 25th Anniversary Ultra Rare Dark Magician.

Here's the ones I kept. The 3 God cards, DMG, BEWD, and REBD are all guaranteed. There's also a guarantee that there will be an Ultra Rare 25th Anniversary Edition of one of those 6 as an extra.

It's hard to see in the pic, but the UR DMG has a 25th Anniversary mark down in the description area. Kinda wish they'd have used the classic artwork for these, but they're still pretty cool. The UR DMG is getting put in a hard protector to set next to my Kotobukiya Yami Yugi. I need to get card stand for it still.

I love that they did the colored back versions for the Egyptian Gods.

I actually traded Exodia Necross for Time Wizard just to have the ultimate Joey combo. Like I said, I'm a collector. Gotta be weird like that.

Now to redo my binder and get them put away. I have so may that are just chilling in duplicates of the 2022 tin (I have 9 extra tins that I have no idea what I'm going to do with them).

is Kaiba's best duel vs. Ishizu or vs. Siegfried in your opinion

kaiba versus siegfried is super fun but has zero of the emotional and thematic heft of kaiba versus isis. 

to wit, kaiba versus isis has...

(caveat that this is based on the sub, i haven’t read the manga in a while)

a victory of free will and agency over the fatalism of magic

it’s a great example of yugioh’s core conceit that dueling is communicating, especially for kaiba (in the sense that through the duel, Isis argues her belief that the future is unchangeable, Kaiba counter-argues that the future IS under your control, and successfully convinces her, giving her hope that Malik can be saved)

it puts kaiba on the ropes for a hot minute; his faith in himself DOES waver and he almost cracks under the pressure, which leads to a lovely moment that shows the bond between yami and kaiba. yami sees kaiba’s clearly struggling and expresses his belief that he can win - their road of battle doesn’t end here, and battle city won’t end until they duel. it’s one of their quieter, less explosive moments but i think it’s important to note that yami does believe in kaiba’s ability to win (and therefore kaiba himself) and more important to note that this reassurance WORKS. because of what yami says, kaiba works the nerve up to back away from the edge

even though it’s magic that triggers kaiba’s visions of ancient egypt during the duel and his deeply buried feelings of grief over kisara/bewd, in the sub there’s a line of dialogue where he says something like “i’m going to choose to believe in the visions i saw,” which i think is important here - it’s an explicit and conscious choice to respond to the influence of magic, instead of rejecting it out of hand or being led into it by the nose. and it’s also a conscious choice to believe in all of the meaning he personally has given Blue-Eyes White Dragon, which in this life isn’t a fridged girlfriend, but a symbol of self-determination and honor and pride. he has a faith in something other than gods, and it’s what BEWD means to him!! 

the last time kaiba went head-to-head against magic in a duel, it was against pegasus, which to me is one of the most devastating duels of the series because there was NOTHING he could do against pegasus’ millennium eye. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. unlike yuugi + yami, who were protected from the magic of the eye by their friends’ belief in them, he wasn’t protected from the eye’s magic because pegasus already took his only possible defense (mokuba) away. like that whole duel was just pegasus toying with him until he got bored and killed him. it’s nice to me that, faced again with what seems like another humiliating and inevitable defeat against the ruthless and dispassionate power of magic, kaiba scrapes out a real hat trick of a victory. Good for him!! he fuckin earned it!!!

it absolutely slaps that this childhood abuse survivor says “no, fuck off, i will NOT do what i am told, i AM in control of what happens to me” and in the process convinces ANOTHER survivor of childhood abuse that maybe she can ALSO have hope for her own future....

and of course it has the god’s anger soundtrack, which bangs.

The very first duel: Set wasn’t aware that the pharaoh had returned, he was blinded by a mix of his and Seto’s ego as well as pride. Because of this, he enabled and further fed into  Kaiba’s plans of kidnapping Yugi’s grandpa. Set “remembers” of his  original mission, when they are defeated and Yami Yugi “shatters their mind”. It’s important to highlight that Set has been sharing Seto’s body, years prior to the serie’s events.

Duelists kingdom arc

Because Seto is the wielder of the millennium rod, there is an even bigger motivation for Pegasus to try take over KC. The stakes are even higher here, than compared to DM;

They still go through with all the pre-DM stuff that ties them to Pegasus, however Set always remains well hidden within the back of Kaiba’s mind whenever they are in his presence. He always feels an odd sensation, while in the presence of illusion industrial president. The spirit isn’t aware that the man is in possession of the millennium eye.

The next big change happens in the duel against Pegasus. At some point during it, Set realises that their opponent has Aknadin’s item and tries to banter with Seto for them to swap places. After all he knows how the eye works, but due to their current situation, everything they had previously gone through against Yugi not too long ago and Seto’s insistence that he will save Mokuba by himself prevents Set from even attempting the minds swapping strategy. The duel’s outcome is the same, Kaiba is defeated and his soul is stolen. Leaving Set behind all by himself, in his body. This is the first time, his existence is revealed to everyone;

Both Yugi and Yami Yugi, have only had the slightest bit of clue from the existence of the other face (Set). Until this point.

Set is taken hostage, and can’t do anything but wait within his jail cell. By the end of it, he is reunited with both Seto and Mokuba;

Before they find Mokuba however, they have a brief encounter with Shadi. Who investigates their soul rooms, in search of the eye’s thief. It’s here that Set learns about Pegasus’ fate (he is quick to assume that Bakura must have had something to do with it), as well as how it has become impossible to traverse/get inside of Kaiba’s soul room.

Prior to the start of DM’s events, Kaiba and Set have a run in with Y!Bakura who comes close to stealing the rod. (Post going into more details about this event, will come soon).

The dark RPG arc

The game is still something Seto has been working on for a long time. Set has been a helping hand, in testing the VR technology. Thanks to the programming, he and Seto can co-exist with separate bodies;

Seto is kidnapped leaving Set try to get to him, all by himself. However, as imagined he can’t get to him due to lacking a party to take on the game’s late quests;

When Yugi’s party catches up to Set, he and Mokuba try to pass him off as some sort of NPC;

Mokuba still is the one who frees Seto, Set is working alongside Yugi’s party and following their pace.

Battle city:

Malik still is the main antagonist of this arc, however he doesn’t wield the rod. Likely has another millennium item, in his possession;

Set also maintains his presence/existence a secret from the Ishtars. He, alongside with Ishizu, convince Kaiba to start the tournament;

While he may have contributed to the start of BC, there is a huge debacle between him and Seto in regards to the use of the Obelisk in duels. Set refuses to use the God card, out of fear of angering the deities (this is in reference to when he was a pharaoh. He never used the God Kas, during his reign). Whereas Seto, obviously couldn’t care anyway less about the spirit’s concerns in regards to it, and clearly takes immense pelasure out of using its power;

Set participates in the following duels:

The double duel agains the rare hunters, in Atem’s side. vs. Ishizu, that is when he reveals himself to the Ishtars.

Up until Ishizu’s duel, Malik’s primary target was Atem. However, it changes to Set when he reveals himself to be the pharaoh responsible for the creation of the tombkeepers;

Set reveals himself to be someone with far greater knowledge, and control over shadow games than both y!Malik and Bakura. AT some point, they try taking on him, but their attempts prove themselves to be in vain. He is keeping Kaiba and Mokuba safe, from them;

They have another brief run in with Shadi. Seto doesn’t learn how to read hieroglyphs, since Set is there to do that for him. Set also feels y!Bakura being erradicated by y!Malik;

Virtual world:

Set has heard of Seto and Mokuba’s story a dozen of times, but not the thing in its entirety. Not only that, Seto has never learned what happened in his early memory loss episodes when Set woke up. It is here, that the truth is brought to light.

At the start, Set only saw Seto, as nothing more than a vessel for him to fulfill his duty of serving/helping Atem in the present time. And he would speak of him in such manner, with Gozaburo. Needless to say, but learning such things is bound to put a damper in the brothers’ trust on Set.

Unlike in the Dark RPG arc, Set is bound to Kaiba’s body. It appears that no one outside of Gozaburo, are aware of his existence in the first place. Which catches Noah by surprise, when they finally come face to face;

Set is the one who initiates the duel against Noah, under the justification that he was the one responsible for Gozaburo’s death and not Seto. However, he has to swap places with Seto once Noah starts using Mokuba as a meat shield. They are unable to continue, and are turned into stone as a result;

From the duel against Gozaburo, all the way to their escape Set and Seto are in complete sync with one another, in the same way that Yugi and Atem are always seen.

By the end of the duel with Gozaburo, Set finishes what he began all those years ago, the ritual to feed the man’s soul to his BEWD ka. His punishment for all the crimes, against him.

BC’s finals

There aren’t any major differences between them. Set and Y!Malik exchange a few words, mostly just so he can both taunt him and send him after Atem. By the end of the tournament, Set finally gets the confirmation that his pharaoh is indeed back.

Pyramid of Light

Again, there aren’t any major differences between them. Set picks up on the sudden shift in Kaiba’s behavior, he is mostly there as an observer. He gets sucked into the millennium puzzle, when the pyramid of light is played, that is where he stays for remainder of duel/story. He returns to Kaiba as soon as he is fred from the puzzle, and takes over the body while the other is recovering.

In relation to Anubis and the fake relic: Set had yet to be promoted into his high priest position, however he was around to witness Aknadin punish him. He wasn’t aware of the fake relic’s existence, and simply saw the sentence as just another of his mentor’s lessons. But, he recognizes Anubis.

Waking the dragons

The first duel against Amelda: Kaiba still is the one dueling, however Critias is unable to interfere in the duel. Leading to him being defeated, but Set manages to take over the body in time so his soul is the one taken by the orichalcos seal instead. He doesn’t return until the Leviathan is defeated, by the end of this arc;

Seto is trying to recover Set, while attempting to salvage what is left of his company. He doesn’t relate at all to Atem’s situation, even though at first glance they seem to be on similar grounds.

KC Grand prix

Once more, there aren’t any major differences between them. Set is aware of Ziegfried’s existence, but he really doesn’t get to do anything or much of relevance throughout this arc’s events.

He also mocks Ziegfried’s hair & mannerisms, in a similar way that Kaiba does. The other is unable to tell both apart.

Memory world

They travel to Egypt in order to join Yugi and his crew, this means that Kaiba participates in the MW’s events a lot sooner. At first, he is tasked by Set to look for any clues to Atem’s name. There is a fallout between them, when Seto becomes aware that Set isn’t trying to change the course of events, even though he knows what is coming/about to happen;

It should be worth reminding that: Set remembers most things about his life, with the exception of most memories assosciated to Atem’s existence, he doesn’t remember his name neither why he erased it from existence or anything that could possibly lead/hint to learning the name prematurely.

Set is saved from Aknadin’s control with the help of Kisara, Seto and Atem;

Seto and Set are the last ones to leave the MW, because there is one more portion of this story that is exclusively meant for Kaiba to see. Which is the aftermath, of Zorc’s battle. When Set regained consciousness and found himself all alone with the puzzle.

Ceremonial duel

They split up during the ceremonial duel, just like Yugi and Atem and watch over it like that.

DSoD

Taking place about 1 year after the end of DM. Kaiba’s goal is to meet with Set, one more time. Even though, everyone around him seems to just assume, he is after Atem.

At some point, he recovers the millennium rod and keeps it to himself, even though it has no power. What Yugi says about the spirits being gone, is true. He also can’t feel Set’s presence in his relic. The rod vanishes when Atem returns to his realm.

Kaiba and Set duel each other, Kaiba is the winner and safely returns to his realm.

I think about the turning off the safeties scene (the one where Kaiba decides to test drive Obelisk by changing the Solid Vision settings to “realistic combat feedback,” meaning if he takes a direct attack he’ll literally die) constantly

It might be the only time in the series that someone bets their life on a game without there being at least some justification of like, this is to save someone/defeat an enemy/get revenge/achieve some goal....it’s just pure unadulterated self-harm

And he does it with the Solid Vision tech he invented. and an AI opponent he programmed. and he gave the AI his own deck. and the monster it nearly kills him with is his own bewd ultimate

This is coming right off his defeat against Pegasus--and right off his rightful defeat against Yugi and Atem, in a duel he only won because Yugi refused to risk pushing him into suicide. In his mind, he already deserves to die twice over

So I’d guess that his thought process is like...“I have to throw myself into a life-or-death game so I can re-earn the right to live”

Which really puts his mental state throughout Battle City into perspective

...Now that I think about the phrasing of “realistic combat settings,” this is probably, like...how Gozaburo intended to weaponize his invention, right? So there’s also an element of punishing himself for that here

Mokuba is watching this whole thing, btw. As soon as he learns that the safeties have been disabled (which Seto didn’t tell him! he only hears it from some random Kaibacorp tech when Seto’s about to die), he starts yelling into the intercom for Seto to call off the duel, while Seto...glances at him and then completely tunes him out 🙃

You could draw a pretty direct parallel between this scene and the end of dsod. Taken together, they really reframe/expand Mokuba’s “you don’t smile anymore” concerns from “not dealing with your trauma is making you miserable” to “not dealing with your trauma is going to get you killed”

This scene also really adds something to his reaction to Atem saving him in the tag duel, and his whole “prove whether friendship exists!!!!” [chucks a card at Atem’s head] thing. Like...the idea that maybe the loser doesn’t have to die if there’s someone there to catch him...the hope it inspires...the terror and anger at his own hope....

「As my Bio states, I take a bit of a blend of inspiration of the Duelist YGO manga (not the Early Manga/Season 0, and here it all is in a quick list. Of course, any bits involving other muses won’t be forced upon other blogs, this is just the default. I’ll also add to this as I remember more things because it’s been a while since I’ve read the manga in full:」

※ While in Gozaburo’s advanced learning program Seto was hit on the hands with a switch/pointer during lessons both with Gozaburo and other tutors. (None of the dog collar stuff happened though).

※ Gozaburo did jump out the window and die, the Noah arc was a previous state of his mind that was digitalized earlier and then later caught up on what happened with his death through external data.

※ Kaiba did, however, get the three Blue Eyes by dark ways. Black market, threatening one with the mafia, and driving one to their death. 

※ I will take one thing from early manga/Season 0 and that is that Capsule Monsters (not the anime filler arc) exists and Mokuba plays and loves the game.

※ While the mind crush coma is not canon for my Seto (it’s just too complicated for me to want to deal with and make it seem natural) Seto still is taken via helicopter to Duelist Kingdom and they try to kill him in the chopper and he takes it by force and stops the gun with the card while there, making the remaining guards jump into the ocean.

※ In Duelist Kingdom, it was still the Battle Boxes that were being used, which made Seto’s tactic of using the first Duel Disk to put distance between him and Pegasus make way more sense. Also in key to that, Pegasus did bring out Mokuba and say he would be the proxy if they were to use the new duel disks, which Seto can’t force himself to do.

※ Not that either of the Kaibas were there, but the default dungeon dice monsters arc I follow is the one from the manga because it is much more fleshed out, so Seto and Mokuba may have vaguely heard about it.

※ In Battle City Kaiba is greatly disturbed by the duel between Yugi and Jounouchi at the pier. However, like in the Anime it is Shizuka who gets the key to Jounouchi.

※ At the end of Battle City, it is not the Bewd jet from the anime that he takes off in. Rather, it is the proper fighter that does happen to share some similarities to the dragon and have the teeth and eyes painted on the front. This later gets replaced with the jet from DSoD.

※ The Memory World plot I consider canon by default is the manga one (although... let’s just all collectively pretend that creepy controlling Priest Set and racist caricature Bobassa isn’t a thing : “) But both Kaibas have no idea about the details of what happened there. Seto only remembers Priest Set(o) and Kisara from the few visions he had during battle city. Kaiba never flew to Egypt during that time nor dueled Yami Bakura.

※ The Kaiba brothers’ appearance in the very last volume during Yugi’s internal monologue (the “this isn’t the story of a great pharaoh” one) was a metaphorical one. It was Yugi picturing them there even across the distance that separated them, the Kaibas didn’t show  up right after the ceremonial duel, in fact they didn’t know it truly happened until they got back to Japan and ran into Yugi and Co. again.

Seto Kaiba Relationship Head Cannons (Manga & Post DSOD Kaiba)

This is my head cannon for Manga Kaiba. The reason why I added DSOD is because the movie is meant to take place six months after the events of the manga. For those who haven’t read the manga you need to read it! The characters have such different dynamics and it is insane how much of it’s own story it is, the anime is definitely in an AU of it’s own. Fair warning, this one is a bit darker then my other two. This is ReaderxKaiba.

Teenage (before DSOD): 

Kaiba is not one to hide what their thinking, unless it is related to some grand master plan of his, so the moment he feels even an ounce of something, it will be known. 

Kaiba is also aware of teenage lust, desires and impulses, but doesn’t know how to handle them with anything but aggression. 

When confronting you with his “feelings” expect to be cornered, alone, and there to be uncomfortably close physical contact. If Kaiba wants to touch you, he will, but he won’t assault you. 

Kaiba wants you to want him. So he will make you very aware of his motives whenever you are near. 

Kaiba will count you both in a relationship, of some weird (probably unheathy) kind once he tells you he plans to make you his.

This proves to be hell for Joey, who believes you deserve better. Kaiba will try, and often succeed, in ripping down Joey whenever he interferes. 

Kaiba must prove he is the alpha male you need. It can get very overwhelming. 

Then comes the second problem. Yugi is a very friendly soul, the Pharaoh is a friend you enjoy playing with. Kaiba will not approve of this by any means. 

Kaiba will mistakenly think the Pharaoh is a rival in not only duel monsters, but in acquiring your affections. A duel over you or you becoming a prize in BC is of high likelihood if you have not accepted Kaiba’s feelings by this point.

But warned if you do accept Kaiba’s feelings, it is not an easy ride. 

Kaiba will push to be physical right away. The boy craves affection of any kind and sex is made out to be the “ultimate way of proving love and affection”, he will need to be rejected. A lot. 

Kaiba will not understand gifts, small tokens, surprises and acts of kindness you show him. In the beginning he would always buy something for you in turn, thinking you only did these things to get something. 

Kaiba will also get extremely paranoid and angry if you cancel on him or delince to see him to hang out with another male, i.e. Joey and Yugi. You can expect him to make an appearance at some point. 

Worse, Kaiba might send his little brother to spy on you during these events. Be kind to the boy, he will be a much needed ally later. 

Side Note: Should you break up with Kaiba...Congratulations, you have a stalker that will take about a year of heartache and life destroying madness to be rid of. (He will never take you back).

It would take Yugi’s, Mokuba and You to get Kaiba use to TLC that doesn’t involve a bedroom. It is best to avoid sleeping with him at all cost before he understands you really do love him. 

Kaiba knowing someone loves him will make him panic. 

Kaiba will try to do anything to show you how much of a monster he is, even going so far as to give you the body count he racked up. 

Kaiba is determined to prove he can’t be truly loved and reject all thoughts of it.

This is where the longest and hardest park of the relationship hits. 

Kaiba will be afraid of physical affection at this point but, as long as you don’t care how many he may have murdered, ruined, or coaxed into self-harm, he won’t be to far from you. 

Expect years of proving your love for him. Kaiba will also explain that you will be his only relationship he will ever have.

Kaiba really is all or nothing. 

Adult Post DSOD:

Kaiba has become mild in his actions at this point. Somewhat. 

Happen to be at his favorite, quiet bar, run by Yakaza, well Kaiba will buy your next drink. Accepting the drink will trigger Kaiba to come over. 

Kaiba being a flirt is an understatement. The man is smoother than the scotch in his glass. 

Kaiba is also a dick, as he will quote poetry or classic literature as a test. Should you point out at least 60% of his phrases correctly you will end up getting his number, fail...at least he left you in a nice hotel room. 

Kaiba wants a brain, and is shockingly not shallow. Many people had underestimated him due to his age and appearance, and had to prove them wrong, so he waits to see the mind of the person. 

Should you manage to keep his interest, expect gifts. 

Kaiba will send very expensive gifts that boarder uncomfortable. 

Kaiba still has many of his old insecurities, he will buy your interest if he has to.

Kaiba understands physical affection and sex are two different creatures that could be the same thing at times. You will need to be affectionate. 

Kaiba shall declare you both in a relationship after at least three months of dating. This comes with a few problems. 

Kaiba finds your car too old, gets you a new one but doesn’t tell you he has a tracker installed. Your phone? He already cracked it. Someone broke into your apartment? It was one of Kaiba’s goons installing cameras to ensure you’re not cheating. 

Kaiba does not handle rejection well, should you freak out on him and belittle him expect him to become destructive...with your things being what is destroyed. 

Kaiba’s temper, even in a relationship is to lash out at anything around him, dueling him when he’s upset will aid in getting him back to baseline. Also saves the furniture. 

Kaiba is shockingly easy to tame if given the proper affection and emotional outlets. If dueling can’t be done, give the man food to chop, you’ll have the best diced vegetables you’ve ever seen. Knife a bad idea? Play a video game where he can shoot or beat the hell out of someone. Stuck in a car with nothing around for miles, lap dances can work to. 

Kaiba can not handle tears, his solution is to throw things your way. Expect him to order you food or a stuffed BEWD. 

Kaiba will go into self-loathing if he causes the tears, you have to pull him out of himself as he will avoid you and won’t keep eye-contact. Man freaks out over failure, making you cry means he failed at the relationship. 

Kaiba is much easier to love, however, he will reveal his crazy, crazy and expect you not to flee or flinch. So when he comes home in blood and a hot gun, offer to burn his clothing and bury the weapon in a park somewhere. Just don’t ask questions. 

Cuddling is a big part of showing Kaiba affection. Kaiba will NEVER ask to be cuddled, but should you put yourself in the position, he will accept it. 

Communication is also off with Kaiba. 

Kaiba will communicate with his eyes, a lot. It is the most expressive thing about him. His face can say nothing but his eyes tells all. 

Kaiba is also a very tender lover when in a proper relationship. The man still expects nothing to last so during these moments he takes his sweet time to savor every moment. 

Kaiba will have to be coaxed into marriage. Marriage comes with a lot of risk and trust. He would be content with being partners for life, it’s far less terrifying than a piece of paper. 

Kaiba is loyal to a fault, he expects the same. Any male in your life needs to be introduced to him. Be ready with their name, relation, job and how long you knew them. You best be ready to cut off old boyfriends who are now friends. 

Did we mention that Kaiba is possessive. Kaiba is possessive and will never let you get far enough where he can’t get you within minutes.

It’s so awesome I don’t even know where to start. This was so suuuuuper fun to draw really! 8DDD I tried to capture the best scenes in this pic! I put a lot of effort into it u know U_U I spent at least 2 hours drawing this, but then my mom called me (why noooooow moooom) and told me I have to clean my room, so I had to wrap it up fast which is why the window in the background is a bit wobbly! As you can see I tried go for the MS Paint Style, but for some reason my own MS paint keeps crashing, so I had to use Painttool SAI instead :( I know SAI is inferior to Paint in a lot of ways, but this is all I could do :((( BUT I’m really proud of the details!
