Intro
- Megan/Morgan (no preference which), 21 yo, any pronouns, bigender man+woman, abrosexual. Got autism and anxiety. Long time lurker of the otherkin and therian tags who has finally decided to make a blog.
- Spotted hyena, mountain lion, and nudibranch therian, plus centaurkin. All of which are spiritual/past-life therio/kin types. I also have memories from other human past lives, but I'm not factkin. Religiously I am exploring Hinduism (specifically vaishnavism)
- My icon | My banner
- Tagging info: media type (eg 'image', 'text', 'gif', etc); kin type ('hyena', 'mountain lion', 'nudibranch', 'centaur'); NO CW/TW TAGS!
- No DNI. I block liberally and prefer not to virtue signal through stupid shit like a list of people I don't agree with. Don't like that? Block me first! There's nothing I love more than not even seeing the shit that I "shouldn't" interact with.

margay propaganda for the @little-cat-showdown poll:
margays are a small cat similar to the oncilla and the better-known ocelot in appearance and range. they're native to the extremely dense tropical rainforests of central and south america, and they're very, very cute.
they're the only member of the Leopardus genus still in the little cat showdown-- the oncilla and pampas cat were eliminated in the first round; the kodkod, ocelot, andean mountain cat, and geoffrey's cat were eliminated in the second. Leopardus have fewer chromosomes than other felids and are the oldest genetic branch of American small cats!
some unique things about margays:
- as i understand it, they're the only fully arboreal/tree-dwelling cat! their wrists can rotate a full 360°, making them the only small cat able to climb straight down trees just as easily as they climb up, dangle upside-down, etc. (clouded leopards are the only large cat with this adaptation, and even they spend a lot of time on the ground while hunting)
- they're talented mimics and will imitate the distress calls of an infant of their prey species to attract prey while hunting! while there are reports of other American cat species (jaguars and pumas) doing the same, margays are currently the only one we have a confirmed recording of
i'm also biased towards them bc i'm a margay therian + furry and i'm not used to seeing my species on these kinds of polls, let alone seeing it get so far. but i think, especially with how small this poll is, that we have a real shot of making it to the finals! if you send me proof of voting for margays in the current little cat showdown poll, i'll make a moodboard of your choice or do a traditional headshot doodle of a character of your choice. we're currently losing by 2% of 330 votes--that's just six votes. here's a picture of my fursona as drawn by/commissioned from @esmeraldablazingsky as thanks for reading this, plus a doodle drawn by myself to demonstrate my headshot doodle abilities!
VOTE #MARGAYSWEEP

`` The urge to physically be a mountain lion, accompanied with the feeling of being nonhuman/alterhuman.``
Yes, I made a flag for myself because I WANT TO. Plus, there were ZERO actual mountain lion flags that actually exist here, so it's time for one to exist!!
Meanings of the colors:
Here is also a half-flag variant if anyone would like to use it <33
I do not own the vector image of the cougar. It was a free to use image I found on Pinterest.

on seeing animals through the lens of animality
I see sentiments sometimes in the nonhuman community to the effect of wondering or lamenting how wild or captive animals, especially our theriotypes/kintypes, relate to us if we ever encounter them. But what I think about a lot is how my journey as a nonhuman informs how I relate to animals.
I kind of see myself in a permanent state of questioning - while I don't find the back and forth about what "makes" me believe I'm a coyote or a puma or some kind of bird thing terribly interesting, I tend towards more mundane psychological explanations, which leads me towards thinking of putting a specific species on what I experience as less an exercise in uncovering the One Truth and more an exercise in narrowing down many equally viable possibilities towards one that just feels the most right. This means that for most of my life (I've known I was nonhuman since my early teens, first starting lurking in therian spaces in the Livejournal days) anytime I've looked at a new animal there's been a little checklist I go through in my brain about it, comparing it to my internal experience, and wondering about ITS internal experience.
This has led me down a lot of interesting rabbit holes. What does it actually feel like to have eyes on the side of your head, or to have a beak or gills, or to have a bird-like respiratory system? Am I equipped to know that or do I just take it on faith when those things do or don't feel like my internal experience? I know I'm some broad-winged soaring bird because when the wind passes through my fingers just so I feel like I could tip my pinky and gently turn through the air while barely having to move another muscle. But what does it feel like for a whale to be so encased in blubber that an arctic sea that would pretty much instantly kill me feels just right? Does meat smell different to a canine nose than to mine? How would I manage my breathing if I went for my morning run on four legs instead of two? Does a manta ray feel curiosity or surprise when it encounters a human diver? Do crows tell each other about their days when they go back to roost for the night?
In my constant wondering, is this an animal I could be, I've put myself in the place of just about every animal I've learned about over the years and wondered what its like to live its life, what it feels and what range of emotions it experiences and how much or little it can communicate and whether it knows its place in the world. And obviously there's plenty about the internal experience of animals that's still, for the time being, beyond the reach of science. But when I think about the study of animals, from the perspective of a therian, those things when they do come to light are by far the most exciting. That excitement of discovery and inquiry is just maybe why I don't feel any hardcore pressure to settle down into knowing exactly what I am.
