Latest chapter of 'Into the Techiverse!' is up!
Like a vodka-Redbull, or watching the season 2 finale of 'The Bad Batch' followed by the finale of 'The Mandalorian', a downer quickly mixed and/or chased with an upper is going to make one feel discombobulated. But it's needed.
Tumblr media
This latest chapter of 'Into the Techiverse' promises to be delightful and fandom blind, and Lord help me I needed to write that after the last, brutal chapter of Far Past the Ring. It's a clutch of Techs finally hanging out and doing what Tech would do if he met a bunch of Techs.
That was a weird sentence to type out.
The fourth wall's broken in this, FWIW.
The universes in which the Techs come from is from @techs-stitches @wrenkenstein @moosethren . Although she's part of the project, @ilikemymendarkandfictional 's Tech is, unfortunately, gone, which is a massive plot point.

Just finished reading Leviathans Wake and I gotta say, the protomolecule is literally the stuff of my nightmares. That first description where Miller saw Eros on the camera feed gave me chills, and then just the idea that it is sending out broadcasts and these broadcasts are being turned into club music. Ugh something about it just makes me feel sick. Anyway, Miller's chapters towards the end were very good and very sad. Very good book, I picked up the sequel immediately after finishing.

The Expanse watchers, what is the general opinion on the Miller and Julie arc? Do you think it was creepy and dehumanizing of Miller to have feelings for her, or do you think the way the plot went about it subverted it? What with a great part of it being the protomolecule's influence, and all.

Minecraft is literally the story of Survival after the Ring gates collapsed in the Expanse. I’m sorry but I can’t get this out of my head, especially after the Warden and Ancient Cities update. This shit is literally the protomolecule. It creates new things from death, it corrupted the Warden, it’s the basis for an abandoned, long dead species that stumbled upon another race that took one look at the Builders and went ‘fuck you, annihilation it is,’ and wiped them out with plague and other monstrosities.
Let me explain.
So, after Holden collapses the Ring gates, the Goths are no longer angry at the Romans, they’e no longer being hurt. But Steve, the sole survivor on one of the planets is the only one left after the protomolecular virus begins making proto-zombies. He’s forced to flee, and in doing so hits his head. He loses his memory, and when he wakes up, he’s forced to survive in this new world.
Slowly, he begins piecing together what happened. There are strange portals around, and whenever he walks into one, strange screaming echoes in his head, and the Nether becomes open to him. This is an ethereal Goth dimension where everything is warped. He is of course, fucking terrified, and begins trying to figure out what happened to the buildings, the pigmen, what’s at play with the fortress.
And when the End opens up, it’s a pocket space, like the Ring gates, void, with no radiation, and… oxygen? In its place, the Ring Core is warped into that of a dragon, which Steve is forced to fight and nullify in order for safe passage.
After that, he begins hearing things from the Deep, and weird shifting in his head. The End has left a residue in his brain, a node, and it talks to him. Something is guarding the Work. What is the Work, he asks himself, terrified. He can hear beastly roars that shouldn’t be possible, and with the proto-zombies hunting him and blue shit spreading across the dimensions, he’s forced down into the Deep, where he comes face to face with the Warden.
He runs, unable to fight this beast, and flees until he reaches the abandoned city. There’s a tremendous sense of loss and forgotten memories here. An echo of something long dead, remaining silent in its abandonment. He traipses the lost city, trying to figure out what happened. Who was here before him? Was it the remainder of his species, or was it the Romans? He finds logs of language he can’t decipher, and the ground, a brown-blue moss speaks to him. He sees visions of a man in a hat, reaching but dismisses it.
He can hear echoes of his past, his mother’s voice, the Ring gates, the weird voice telling them ‘where you go, is for the rest of your life,’ and he stayed. He was exiled for something, food had run low, and everything went to shit not long after.
With this knowledge, he’s ready to arm himself. The protomolecule wouldn’t win. The Romans couldn’t wake back up.

I had a very similar reaction of not really caring about the show once Miller died/became protomolecule. stopped watching after s2 because the other characters weren’t as interesting
i see, glad i'm not alone in that. like i think the plot itself is interesting? but i really just am not invested enough in the other characters, and that's tough because i tend to consume media from a really character focused perspective, if that makes sense. i'm gonna try and keep watching (on s2e6 right now) but honestly i don't know how far i'll make it w/out miller hahahaha

It's the final of Book 4 of 'Far Past the Ring: Ghosts and Tales'! It's mostly about Holden and Omega, above. I didn't expect them to blossom into a teacher/mentor relationship, but they have, and it's great.
The Protomolecule is chatting with Holden and Omega (who is also learning how to pilot a Martian frigate!), Hunter's loosening up, and a certain former reg that we all love and adore is coming on in through a certain ring gate in this chapter...

venom-2350 is so fucking funny like
idk why I decided the klyntarians of that reality are some kind of “guardians of the universe and all that is good” thing
but the idea of a sad wet kitten of a tabloid schlock reporter who specifically hates this one photographer so much getting, like, an arisian lens, and saying “ok sure we’ll save the universe later but I’m using you to kick her ass first” is incredibly funny
