this is a bit of a MESSY rant so it may not make sense but I just HAVE to try and get all of this annoyance out when it comes to my girl. because I have had a month to sit on it and I'm actually angry

see, as much as I adore gamora and should be happy for the variant because she's still technically my baby, it's hard to be happy for her or to like her, even.

and when it comes down to her new found family? ohoho I'm still just a bit miffed about that. I mean, it's with the ravagers of all people???

I mean I've always trusted James with these characters and I have adored her ever since 2014 the day vol.1 came out, but this was just so random and doesn't really make a lot of sense to me? I guess what would have been nice and would have made it less of a weird thing for me is if we were actually given a reason as to why she calls the ravagers her "people"... because come on, they're not and UGH

I mean at the end of the day, these are the ravagers who our gamora had no respect for

see, gamora is not perfect in any way and she knows this herself, but she does look down on people like ravagers and junkers etc etc. there's this sort of hierarchy in her head, with or without being beside Thanos.

it was there in vol.1, but not so much in vol.2. tbh she only had respect for yondu because of what he did for Peter. But still. her becoming a ravager??? idk??? it sort of doesn't fit??? and I have to agree with Quill on that one, especially when he told this variant something along the lines of "old you would have never become one of them" or whatever he said when they returned to the Bowie after escaping Orgocorp.

I know, I know. these Gamora variants are different, but they're surely the same at the core? when we saw this version of gamora in endgame, she was very close to our gamora and was nothing like this new one - exactly how you would have thought she would have been pre-vol.1

and I knew that gamora could be a bitch, but never this bad... during the first time I went to see vol.3, I was sat there and I just wanted to slap her quite honestly. I get the whole "ravager" attitude but it just completely took over her whole personality and I just didn't quite recognise the character I was watching.

I could understand when nebula made that comment about how people thought she was bad when Gamora was like this all along, but when you rewatch not even just endgame, but vol.1 and vol.2 it's very much like ?????

it's almost like the Gamora we got in vol.3 is completely different to what we got in endgame, really... even though they're supposed to literally be the same version of her. like what the fuck happened to her between endgame and vol.3? like girl who hurt you-

BUT IM NOT ABOUT TO SAY THIS BC STARMORA HAS BEEN ONE OF MY MAIN SHIPS BUT that ending with this Gamora and Peter? I knew she wasn't going to stay, her walking away when everyone was hugging made that obvious. But when she said to him "I'm still not the person you want me to be", and he replied with the "yeah, but who you are ain't so bad either." I'm kind of sat here now after thinking about it like Peter how do you know? you two have just spent basically all of your screen time together arguing and being upset. and with her not wanting to go back and help save the animals with the rest of them and then only doing it in the end pretty much because she felt she had to, this gamora hadn't really shown that she wasn't "that bad"? she was just so against everything, there wasn't really a lot of "good" to her for me to even really justify him saying that.

but yessssss I know this variant is supposed to be completely different to our Gamora, and in Zoe's words this new Gamora is "wild", "very independent", and has a "spunk to her that Gamora never really had". but man, I was just actually annoyed... I don't even know how to explain it...

Okay, I have to ask you, the comic expert, for some info: have you ever read Release the Flerken, and what was it about (and did you like it)? I have an interest to write a fic at some point in the future that is essentially a crossover between Carol Danvers and the GOTG, but that’s just the premise. I am quite curious about where I would need to start with it…

yes, i have read release the flerken! that’s the comic where i fell in love with carol and the gotg’s friendship, especially rocket and carol. they’re so cute!

so basically release the flerken takes place when carol is a guardian. carol didn’t know chewie was a flerken, but rocket insisted she was, and therefore, dangerous and needed to be sold and given away. carol didn’t believe him and thought rocket was crazy for trying to sell her cat.

rocket, obviously, turned out to be right and carol realized that her cat wasn’t actually a cat when chewie laid a bunch of mysterious eggs and gave birth to a bunch of flerkitties (where the marvels got the inspiration from)

rocket and chewie eventually made up, and rocket has a tiny crush on chewie

it’s only a two issue arc that takes place in captain marvel (2014) #7-8 so you should read it if you want to know more. i actually posted about it a while ago!

I saw you reblogged that Gamora/Quill gifset from the final Guardians movie. I really really loved their arc in the movie and the final resolution they got. It felt like a very mature piece of storytelling and they actually honored whatever the characters went through in the previous films instead of wiping it away with a magic marker. They acknowledged that Peter's Gamora was dead and the 2014 one wasn't the one he fell in love with. I can't help but compare it to the Steve/Peggy crap they pulled in Endgame. That was so cheap and unearned and completely stupid and illogical. James Gunn got it right where the Russos and Marcus and Mcfeely really fucked up.

So, I posted that gif set because I finally got around to watching GotG vol. 3 last night. Overall, I enjoyed it, except for the fact that the narrative thrust of the movie was rooted in animal torture. That threw me somewhat. I think your assessment of the Gamora and Quill storyline is spot on. I think it was the earned ending to have them come to some sort of closure while acknowledging she is her own person, and not his person. Actually, I liked the endings for all the characters; I thought it was a very strong tie-up.

I guess the only thing I can't figure out is why Quill of all the characters is going to be the one brought back in a future project. I'd rather see anyone else.

was thinking the other day about how great TWS is, and how great GotG is, and then started thinking about how they were both in 2014, so either right before or right after Disney acquired the brand so they had basically nothing to do with them, and how after Disney got it, the first movie post-acquiring was Age of Ultron.......sigh.

i have so many complex feelings abt vol 3 still...i feel like it’s one of those movies where i can see and respect its objective high quality, but my own personal bias due to the gamora situation has just completely tainted my view of like all post-iw gotg content. like i am not a Hater™ by any means, i think gotg projects maintain a consistent high quality that most other mcu franchises can’t, i just don’t think i’ve been able to have the same amount of “fun” watching/engaging with new gotg content from iw and onward that i had in 2014 and 2017

Right before seeing vol 3 I saw a post where someone shared a comment James Gunn made. A person asked him how Groot took Gamora's death. James answered he took it hard because she was like a mother to him. I think that whole exchange encompasses why the handling of Gamora's character since Infinity War hasn't been all that awesome. When people have to ask how one character feels about another characters death, it means you've failed to show proper mourning. I cried so many tears for Rocket watching vol 3. But my heart hurt for Gamora too. Why couldn't we see a fraction of the kind of love poured out for Rocket shown in respect for Gamora's death. I know time had passed but that's no excuse. There were still ways to show love and hurt. There were ways to show 2014 Gamora she was loved even if she wasn't ready or willing to reciprocate. After all she helped save Rocket and took on risks despite having no past experiences with them. I think that alone was more than enough reason to do something bigger to show appreciation for her characters part in the entire gotg saga.

I saw that too and it broke my heart. But you’re absolutely right, if people need to be asking, it’s not being conveyed properly, and it wouldn’t have hurt them to include that somewhere in any one of these movies since her death even briefly. Even with focusing on Peter’s loss, at any point someone could have said “I get it tho I miss her too”?? But we never get something like that

🖤 begging and pleading for Guardians of The Galaxy vol. 3 related roleplays! 😭

I'm here just looking for some good, ole' rarepairs (or crackships, as the kids call it) with my Gamora and Nebula. namely, atm I'm interested in Adam/Gamora and Kraglin/Nebula... and probably others! totally willing to go outside the bounds of GOTG and dip into other Marvel lore as well - or even outside the MCU. Hell, I'm a fan of crossovers! bring your ideas to me! these are just the few ships I've had spinnin' in my head for such a long time with no luck. you best believe that I got some ideas for plots for 'em in my head, too. >:)

as for me; I'm 31yo, ftm, from Europe. my current main muse is Gamora, with plenty of Nebula on the side. I've written so many Guardians as side characters as well that I can toss into any plot, storyline, thread or whatever. as for Gamora, I've been writing her fairly actively since 2014 and Nebula on and off, and have plenty of experience in both.

I can write entire fuckin' novels when I really get into it, especially for a starter. typically minimum of three paragraphs, unless we're doing a quickfire conversation. I'm fluent in english, spell check is my best friend and I'm happy to be corrected should I get something wrong. my absolute favorite in regards to writing is romance with a good balance of things, angst in balance with fluff, hurt with comfort, a bit of nice plot to go along that romance, plus some smut thrown in if we're both into it. preferred platform is discord, open to tupperbox!

please be 20+, communicative and come equipped to match my writing style! writing samples available should you want 'em! I'm iffy about writing with cis-het men, but I'll try and keep my mind open. I love a partner I can exhange headcanons, art, music, all the good stuff with. I'm totally happy to be your friend next to being your writing partner!

Actually, have a few scattered DC thoughts on the latest franchise news. Obligatory note that I didn’t grow up as a DC fan, I was a Marvel fan until I couldn’t make excuses any more, and my biggest comic book thing is I have very strong thoughts on the Batman universe due to imprinting on Jim Gordon at a very young age

I think the reason they’re giving for Batgirl’s shelving is bullshit and I do think that anyone who takes it at surface level is lying to themselves.

I’m also kind of frustrated at the Birds of Prey erasure because that film was my favorite superhero film in a while.

Don’t get me started on the Ezra stuff because Jesus fucking Christ

However, I think the general approach they are taking is both mind-numbingly basic (”put screenwriting first” yeah James that’s how most good movies are made??) but also tragically refreshing in an era of “we can’t give the whole cast the script or let everyone know everything.” Films are storytelling mediums - if you don’t have a story, you’re going to have garbage. Yes, cameos make the theater cheer, but if you don’t have a coherent story - or you’re not letting the writers working across the franchise in on the story’s direction - you’re gonna get fucked

I also like the idea of using the relaunch to start with less of the top tier stuff, because lets be honest the reason MCU movies worked in the beginning (aside from playing more with genre/tone and also not being factory made at an impossible speed and with no artistic form) is because they took four folks who weren’t the X-Men or Spidey and made us care about them! It’s a smart business decision

Ngl I’m excited for Waller, the Lanterns show, and Swamp Thing

Despite my endless frustration with Abrams, I am excited for his Superman movie, especially since he’s not writing it!

Overall, and this is my most controversial opinion, I’ve yet to meet a Gunn film I’ve really liked beyond The Suicide Squad and even then it isn’t like... my favorite? (I’m a known GotG hater since 2014!). I think he’s got a good visual eye, I think he’s been through a lot of shit, but I also think he’s not the best overall at thinking critically about certain things like race, gender, or sexuality. However, maybe I’m either not paying enough attention or I’m just not the target audience member! Open to criticism tbh. However, I do like the fact that he’s more focused on telling a coherent franchise narrative than he is about trying to generate an Avengers: Endgame level event without putting in the fucking work first, and as a writer I do like that he’s thinking about the screenwriters first.

Also I kind of love that he has a writers room for the franchise. I think that’s smart! I think more big franchise should have story groups and I think they should have the ability to shoot down bad ideas.

Always this is a long ass post to say I’m neutral overall, but in general I’m more interested in the concept of what could happen than I’ve felt about the DC film universe before today. I’m still suffering from franchise fatigue and I’m also very annoyed about certain things but at the same time... more interested in this than whatever Marvel’s doing right now tbh

I know you're a gotg fan so I hope it's okay to ask a question. Do you know if Gamora is supposed to have a major role in vol 3? She's not in Thor 4 and they just finished filming a holiday show that she's not in either. Do you know if either will at least mention her? With 2 projects it will be odd to not get some insight into how the guardians are feeling when it comes to her before vol 3. I imagine she's still important to them and the story, but nobody seems to be addressing it so far.

Yes, Gamora will be a big part of Vol. 3 according to James Gunn! Zoe Saldana has also been posting on Instagram in her Gamora makeup for Vol. 3 lately, which is currently filming.

I think that she may be briefly addressed in Thor 4. The Holiday Special will likely be sillier so it probably will avoid mentioning her much, and just wait for Vol. 3 for that.

Essentially in Vol. 3 we will see the return of 2014!Gamora from Endgame (since she has been missing since the second snap and Peter is trying to find her).

Now if it will involve her getting memories back from the Gamora who died? I'm not sure. But either way, there is going to be a conclusion to the whole debacle at some point 🤷‍♀️.

Hi fellow lovely Rocket stans. I’m an artist/comic artist/illustrator by night and I’ve been in the gotg & Rocket x reader fandom since 2014. I read both romantic and platonic slash reader contents.

One shots is the format of fanfic I’m keen on reading and writing the most. The same goes for my comics (of another fandom). (Yes neurodivergent buddies) I also love reading headcanons, drabbles and imagines for Rocket and Rocket/reader.

But when I hv the time and energy I also enjoy savouring longer series. I just think I need to apply the same amount of love and energy to read the work as much as the writer wrote it with, so reading consumes much of my energy, despite it being one of my fav hobbies, so i need to be mentally prepared for longer works. That’s why I’ve been missing out on all the feasts out here why please give me focus and concentration to read a fanfic like pls

I love the galaxy and feel an immense power of it whenever I look at any pics of space and the sky. I feel the vastness and the depth of it, how nostalgic and reminiscing it is. Yes I’m an INFJ.

Rain sounds and thunderstorms help me sleep and soothe my mind.

I also love flowers and floral prints/patterns. I love the nature and all animals, especially huge dogs.

As stated in my bio I’ve been a very quiet Rocket stan for nearly a decade and never in my life did I even fathom the slightest possibility of me writing any x reader fics for him, despite having only a few to savour back in the old days, those I read again and again just to crave my selfish urge to make Rocket slightly happier in my memory (now seeing him laugh genuinely makes me wanna cry he’s too precious protect him at all cost). Plus Rocket is the only character in the entire universe whom I ship the reader with and whom I write x reader fics for lol dedication aye? (Will be posting sooner or later when I’m ready to be back on socials) (I stopped creating web comics anymore since like 4months ago cuz of my works being unauthorised reposted all the time,, tho I’ve been creating comics for a decade or so. but I’ll mainly post fanfics here, im still not ready to post any comics since the last incidents on Twitter in another fandom.)

(I might post my rather vast collection of Rocket merch I’ve collected over the years later in another post haha, just wanted to share the love w/ y’all lovelies. I’m honestly so glad to be back on Tumblr again tho I’ve been out of touch with any other SNS for a few years due to my deteriorating mental health, and tbh I’m not entirely ready for it so I’m not as active on Tumblr, but more as a fic enjoyer)

In most of my works Reader’s characteristics in the fic itself is mostly gn but I’m more comfortable using she/her pronouns for the reader. And it’s easier for me myself to imagine situations and dialogues between the two where the reader is comfortable w identifying herself as fem.

But generally I use the second POV for reader insert hopefully to create a better reading experience.

I haven’t read all the Rocket x reader works here on Tumblr nor on AO3 yet, so please lmk if there’s any good fics/ if any of my written tropes overlaps with any of the others. I tend not to read once I started writing because of this exact reason to avoid any possible misunderstandings, yet I do want to read that’s why I haven’t been writing any fics for Rocket for the past 9 years. I also tend to write along a similar trope and I’m a rather water style writer that means the creations of mine are merely slices of the characters’ lives evoking feelings of nostalgia/reminiscence/aching/relishing/realisation/paradigm shift without particular events nor entailments.

English is not my native language so pls bear with me in case there’s anything weird (mostly w cultures/ word choice/ styles of writing). Hmmm possibly and hopefully not too much since I’ve been in the MCU fandom and film/ pop culture shits for over a decade and more. Just to be clear there’s no offence intended if there’s anything sensitive I touched upon/ any lines I crossed that I might be unaware of.

GOTG 3 made me cry

I just watched Guardians of the Galaxy three, cried my eyes out, smoked a bowl, and now I'm feeling naaaaaustalgiiiicccccc.

The lockdown allowed me to improve my writing a ton. The better I’ve gotten, the more I’ve realized just how bad I was when I first moved to LA. I came here thinking “I know I’m a good writer, I just have no idea how to get my stuff read.” And I solved that issue in four months when I landed a job at a fucking a-list development company. Those were the days.....

Just a little over a year in LA and I had an executive producer -on TV shows like The Rookie, Designated Survivor, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, and a handful more- read one of my first ever pilots. It's crazy that I had access to him so quickly. Ah yes, more of the good ol' days...

The first guardians of the galaxy movie came out in 2014. I started working at that a-list company in November of 2013. Maybe that’s part of the reason this movie hit me so hard. But also, Rocket’s emotional trauma is way too relatable. The most good of the good ol' days... Anywho!

Here I am, nine years later, and some of my absolute best friends are legit-ass executives and writers. My network is insane. And it’s filled with people I love. Although it took this many years to finally just win a screenwriting contest, I have zero regrets. I’ve been fucking grinding. This pursuit gives me life.

I thrive off of feedback. I honestly enjoy getting notes. I often can't see the forest through the trees. So, a new perspective, even if I disagree with it, always gets me thinking about my stories differently. But I’d be lying if I didn’t secretly hope that every time I sent off a script, the feedback would be “Oh my god, stop everything! Here’s a billion dollars this needs to be made now!”

Although I haven’t received any praise that high (yet), I did receive this--

“VESSEL has all the essential elements found in a successful supernatural thriller! It is a smart, fresh approach to demons, possessions and exorcisms, as well as priests and heavenly angels.”

“This high concept idea has many solid story elements to recommend it to studios and production companies.”

“Overall, the story is well-conceived, expertly written and the characters are layered and engaging; while you can’t second guess Hollywood, this script may well secure the interest of multiple venues.”

“NOTE: I very much enjoyed reading your script and will watch impatiently for its premier in whatever venue it appears! Well done!”

Not too shabby :)

But listen, I’m not out shopping for a Bentley because some random reader (who's bio says has been a reader for 15 + years, reading thousands of scripts of all genres and budgets from shorts to full-length features and novels. Past clients include the major studios, production companies of every size, and European sales agents. No big deal). Besides, compliments feel good. Clapping and cheering, as I run this marathon, is very much appreciated.

Even though I'm not making room in my garage for that Bentley just yet. ( I don't even own a parking spot) What I am doing is getting the confidence to finally show a script to my friends who could actually do something with it.

There was a post years ago where I referred to this one guy as Scoobie. I still don’t know why I did that, but Scoobie is my dear friend Eric. Eric was the weird assistant who sat behind me at the A-List company I first worked at. Nine years later, Eric is a VP at a major studio. And we sit around and make boner jokes. I love him with my whole heart.

Just yesterday, we were on his balcony, and I asked him what kinds of movies he wants to make. And this man looked me in the eye and unknowingly described Vessel. Am I over exaggerating? Of course. But his description did fit my genre. It got me excited about the possibilities of my little story.

I officially asked him to read my script. But he’s one of my best friends, so I already knew the answer.

Wait, weren’t we talking about Guardians? Ugh, I loved it so much. The ending hit me square in the chest. Seeing the characters going their separate ways and starting new chapters. Tears.

It’s always sad when chapters end, but what really made me emotional was thinking about how badly I want my next chapter to finally begin.

And then “Dog Days Are Over” started playing. I balled. That song has been one of my anthems. Ten years in this city and I’m still trying to break in. It sounds insane. And although this pursuit does give me life, I’m so fucking ready for these dog days to be over. Sing it Florence!

As Eric and I were sitting on his balcony, talking about Vessel, he asked me “You want this script to get you repped, right?”

Do I want to get repped...? Here I am, sitting in front of a studio executive who happens to be one of my best friends, and all I dream about is selling scripts for seven-fucking-figures. I want to be in rooms with other creatives. I want to collaborate. I want to learn. I want to grow. I want to entertain. I want to put butts in seats. I want to make them all laugh and cry. I want to make them all think and feel. All of them. Even you! I want you to laugh and cry! Do it now! lol

My current chapter is begging to be finished. I want it all. And I want it now. But of course I responded with, “Yeah, I want get repped.”

I want to thank you for explaining why the way Gamora's role was written contributes to her erasure. I think there can be a misconception that saying the writing didn't do enough for her is just complaining about her but that's not the case. She's an awesome character who was played perfectly by Zoe, but her story wasn't fleshed out and the aftermath of her death for nearly everyone but Peter was ignored and that's hurting her character. There's a difference between someone saying "it's very obvious Gamora was Groot's mom why didn't vol 3 explore what her being gone was like for him as that's really important and she deserved that recognition" vs "Nobody ever cared about Gamora and she and Groot never had a bond that's why they don't interact more". Some fans of Gamora have been talking about the first example because it's part of what was needed for stronger writing and because the lack of those details is contributing to many other people spewing the second example and clearly how vol 3 handled Gamora is leading to exclusions from merchandising.

There's also an issue where things directly related to her aren't being connected to 2014 Gamora or attributed to 2018 Gamora. Gamora was an abuse victim and her experience with Thanos could have been used as a way to have her story mesh with Rocket's and that never happens. This isn't great when you have people who since IW have been trying to pretend Thanos did nothing wrong. Peter is the only one to mention Gamora's role in creating the guardians. This isn't great when some people want to pretend she had no part in it or it was only Peter or the others who were heroes.

Also it may seem trivial to be upset that Gamora getting to talk about future plans or goals doesn't happen but it's another thing that distances her from all the other characters. A couple people have mentioned how Nebula saying she wants to help the saved children at the end of vol 3 is like the conversation Gamora has with her in vol 2. It was Gamora who said there are little girls like them who need saving and they could do that. Gamora wanted to do that work and Nebula wanted to kill Thanos. This doesn't mean Nebula can't take care of those kids but the issue is it's yet another thing in a long list of things where Gamora's values, relationships and heroism is diminished instead of being amplified. The movie could have had Gamora say that she now wants to go help more kids. It could have had Nebula speak about her conversation with Gamora from vol 2. Anything to bring attention to the benefits of Gamora's relationship with Nebula and the fact that Gamora had always believed in the potential to help other people. There are way too many missed opportunities and maybe this is all unintentional or maybe there's been a lot of good intentions that aren't being understood, but either way the result is Gamora being sidelined, losing her association with the guardians and the fact that the heart of who she is runs through the entire franchise isnt getting acknowledged.

yeahhh exactly, like these are all valid criticisms of the creative decisions made for her character and story...and since this all exists within the greater framework of the mcu franchise, it's also more than fair for us to look at how less cohesive these decisions post-endgame have made the gotg franchise as a whole !

like this isn't hating just to be a hater. it's perfectly normal to disagree with and be disappointed and upset by the way your favorite character is handled in canon, especially when it contradicts previous canon. and when the character in question is female or poc or queer, then we deserve the space to discuss how these kinds of decisions or this kind of treatment can be just a huge step backward and slap in the face for the representation that character provides
