#position of always being able to be Sonic's little buddy who gets to be with him
What would the prime tails think about modern tails?
Interesting...
Well, anon, I'll be real with you. From what I've gathered thus far, Modern Tails' characterization is inconsistent at best, so I think it would depend upon which game Prime!Tails gets to know Modern Tails from.
For example, I think if we look at Sonic Adventure Tails, given the fact that Prime does incorporate games canon into its timeline (despite the confirmation that it DOES take place within the games timeline, with the inconsistencies that also poses with timeline stuff and characterization I think it's more helpful to analyze what games canon it clearly pulls from to form its own canon) Prime!Tails would see himself in this version of Modern Tails. Sonic Adventure Era version of Modern Tails strikes me as a plausible younger version of Prime!Tails if you only look at Prime itself and don't consider that Prime is meant to fit within games canon.
Likewise, if Prime Tails looked from SA era Tails, to Sonic Boom Tails, to Sonic Lost World Tails, to Sonic Forces Tails, and then to Sonic Frontiers Tails, I think the inconsistencies in characterization would also probably confuse him a bit (basically, "if these are all 'modern Tails' why are they so different in how they act or how independent they are?"). I think Prime!Tails can absolutely understand any given version of Modern!Tails' wish to be able to be as strong as Sonic and stand on his own. I get the vibe from Prime!Tails (especially compared to Nine) that he is a valued part of the team and can pull his own weight fighting, but that he isn't as effective as Sonic on his own (unlike Nine, who had to both learn to be effective in combat AND in strategic planning). So, to me, Prime!Tails is in sort of this in between phase. He can keep up with Sonic, he can fight on the front lines with others, he can sit back and play strategist or give advice, and he builds tools and fixes the Tornado, but (either perhaps from settling into his current role for so long or from coming this far only to stagnate) he isn't quite to the level of hero who can work alone and at Sonic's side effectively. In this way, I think he can understand how SA1/SA2 era and Sonic Frontiers Era Tails feel.
So...I guess my verdict is this. Prime!Tails would be simultaneously confused by the inconsistencies in characterization, but I think he'd actively try to sympathize with the versions of Modern Tails (either by relating to them with his past or his present as well as he can). With that being said, though, we unfortunately didn't get to see much of Prime!Tails in Sonic Prime Canon, so I think I could have a more solid answer if we perhaps knew more about him.
#anon interview#sonic prime#sonic the hedgehog#modern tails#tails the fox#miles tails prower#I just be ramblin#To be honest‚ most of the difficulty in answering this question lies with 3 things#1. That we don't get to see much of who Prime Tails is as a character#2. Modern Tails is so inconsistent#3. By all accounts Prime Tails technically *is* Modern Tails. So it's both like wondering over how Sonic Forces Tails would see Sonic#Advance Tails (for example) and it adds to the characterization inconsistencies#In a perfect world where Modern Tails is handled better though‚ I'd like to think that Prime Tails and Modern Tails are both in a position#where they've stagnated so to speak. They can go on solo missions if they wanted. They could learn how to be a powerhouse or work to be like#Nine. They could really change things at any point and seriously persue a dream of being able to be as strong as or better than Sonic and#independent. And yet...my personal interpretation of modern Tails is that he chooses not to. To me‚ his original wishes to be strong and#independent and to keep up with Sonic all served to allow him to be with Sonic‚ be useful to Sonic‚ and to not feel weak. So to me he could#at any point choose to perfect himself as a hero on Sonic's level who ultimately doesn't need him‚ but instead he's more comfortable in this#position of always being able to be Sonic's little buddy who gets to be with him#No offense to Sega‚ but Tails has long grown past the wish to be able to fight on his own or go on solo adventures. He obtained these all a#long time ago. Rather‚ I think the conflict could comes in the difference in lives Sonic and Tails are going to want over time#Haha sorry accidentally went off there#Anyways if things were perfect then Prime Tails and Modern Tails would just be basically the same guy (and I honestly kind of treat them#that way in my head)#Thank you so much for the ask anon! I love talking about my fav‚ so if you have any other questions about Tails or my headcanons/opinions#regarding him‚ feel free to send me another ask😊💖

For someone who said "Sonic" Prime is out of character.
Tumblr media
If you remember Sonic and the Secret Rings, Shahra did say this is not Tails but Sonic can't believe it before going to do quest. Sonic couldn't stop staring at the look-like Tails in the distance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Sonic and the black knight, even Sonic knew this wasn't Tails but he still tried to reach his hand. You can't tell how much Tails is important to Sonic. Mr Junichi Kanemaru once said Sonic's very positive and sensitive too. Sonic's so very kind, his heart, so he can hurt very easily if his friends hurt or die because of him.
Tumblr media
That is why this scene Sonic tries to reach his hand to his buddy...and his friends...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Sonic says "home" to Green Hill, this is also Shadow's home as well-meaning Sonic's friends also his friends too. When you remember Maria's wish, that's how Shadow started to protect Sonic since Sonic Adventure 2 to not let him die from chaos control.
Tumblr media
So Shadow knew how much burden Sonic tried to carry without telling anyone and when only Sonic and Shadow this time, Shadow started to protect Sonic not because he started to care but because he cared about Sonic since Shadow the Hedgehog 2005. "If you want to help them, we need to get out of here" Shadow lost his family once but as long as he exists, his friends will exist even if they are gone. This is what Shadow meant to let go of his past in Shadow the Hedgehog 2005. Protecting the earth means "protecting home" and "protecting friends" he cares about not for Maria's sake anymore but now for his true desire. That's why because Sonic's his friend...Shadow can't let Sonic end up like him.
Tumblr media
Shadow: Even you're not Sonic, but you're still Sonic the one I knew. Thank you for always being by my side, Punch.
Punch: I'm glad I will be able to save you again, Shadow. Even though we had met before I felt like I couldn't let you die again. It's just like I knew you for a very long time.
Shadow: (You reached me like when Sonic reached out to save me before I fell to Earth from the ARK. I remember...If I hadn’t waved Sonic away, Sonic would have fallen with me. But his determination in trying… I’ll never forget that even now. The way you tried to save me. You and Sonic really care about me. Thank you again for accepting me for who I am.)
But no matter how much Shadow tried to stay away from Sonic to not get bonded or be hurt like what was bonding between Maria. Or tried to be an unlimited life form whatever. In the end, Shadow except "Sonic" to help him even though he doesn't like it. So this is connected to Tsubasa of Phantasia, in this scene why Shadow's feeling both glad and sad when Punch comes to rescue him.
Tumblr media
Silver's much different from both Sonic and Shadow. Silver is the hero of justice but doesn't know how the truth behind it, unlike Shadow. Shadow knew Silver tried to hurt Sonic so he jumped to protect him from Silver and take Silver to the real truth behind the past. Shadow is more careful and quick than Silver. Shadow taught Silver to discover the truth and thanks to Shadow. Silver decides to do the right thing not to change the past but to change the future.
Tumblr media
"Leave the past behind and keep moving to the future". And this is what this scene means. Shadow lets Sonic see the past mistake again and change the present now before everything is too late just like Shadow did to Silver once(Even Shadow didn't remember).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thanks from Tailstube, this is the hint how the relationship between Tails and Shadow. In Sonic Prime, Shadow knew Sonic couldn't accept what happened because of his fault so Shadow knew that he could help Sonic.
Tumblr media
"Shadow" is a hero that helps people in their Shadow. That's what his name mean.

Sweet Treats: Accepting
@galaxies-unknown asked:
Entangled Mints and Elderberry for Volt... And for Harmony, Magic Mint Cookie and Bacon Ice Cream?
                                                       ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Entangled Mints: a friendship headcanon.
Volt is very easy to befriend, but anyone who is his friend will learn that he is very much a physical affection type of friend. He sees nothing wrong with holding hands with friends, leaning against them and giving little cheek kisses. If someone is his friend, they can expect a friend for life because it is very hard to do something that would break your friendship with him. Unless it would put Harmony at risk, but I think that’s a given.
Elderberry: a hurt/comfort headcanon.
Because he wears his heart on his sleeve (despite not wearing much clothing all that often), it’s very easy to see when someone has hurt him. Physical pain is something he can easily ignore due to his high pain tolerance, but a mental or emotional attack will cut a whole lot deeper. He’ll be lost for words, usually going rather quiet and subdued. Ears will lower, his tail will still and he’ll not make eye contact with anyone. It’s usually then that Harmony will come over because she will always come to comfort him. There’s been a few occasions where she has held him while he cried and this would be no different.
Magic Mint Cookie: a magic/supernatural headcanon (alt: a taste h/c).
Technically someone could consider Harmony’s powers as supernatural or magical since they were gifted to her by the Gaia Twins. Her abilities are unique to her because of the way she had been made and her complete lack of Chaos Energy. That being said, most magic in their world is powered by Chaos Energy and as such are mainly divided by the positive and negative influence of the energy.
As an extra, Harmony’s able to handle spicy food on the same level as Sonic. So give the kid a ghost chili pepper and she might just eat it without flinching.
Bacon Ice Cream: a “what were you even thinking” headcanon.
This was something that actually went through her teammate’s mind when she jumped out in front of Eggman in the final fight during the metal virus arc. They literally thought she was trying to get herself killed (Buddy had actually tried to grab her) but when they saw what she did, they haven’t once doubted her judgement since. It was what made them make the decision to have her be the ‘leader’ of their team. Although she usually asks for everyone’s input before making a decision.

A Crazy Day at Miku Expo
A Vocaloid shitpost story
Warnings: swearing, contains Kaito x Meiko
Chapter 1
It was a normal day in the Cryptonloid household, like always. It was 12pm and Meiko was already up because she’s a normal person.
“GET UP YOU IDIOTS WE HAVE TO LEAVE FOR MIKU EXPOOO!!!!” she woke the rest of the Cryptonloids up as she was a thoughtful person.
“OH SHIT I FORGOT!!” Miku screamed. Her hair looked like Chuckie Finster from Rugrats but had a much larger mass.
“WAIT WHAT THE FUCK WE’RE PERFORMING TONIGHT?!!? PLS NOOOOO I HAVE A PIMPLE!!!” Len cried.
Miraculously, all of them had somehow forgotten that they had a Miku Expo concert in the mystical country of Hajarputa that night. Except for Meiko, because she was a responsible person.
Once they were done packing and getting ready, they went into their private Miku jet which was covered with Miku faces and had big words that said “HATSUNE MIKU” because Miku is the best and owns the world.
Inside, ‘World is Mine’ was playing on loop and the wall was covered in Miku wallpaper and posters. Meiko sat on a Miku couch at the front, because Meiko is queen and is obviously the sexiest one. Kaito, being the simp that he is, sat next to her.
Luka went all the way to the back of the Miku jet and sat in a Miku chair in the corner, away from everyone else as she was tired of everyone’s bullshit.
Miku and the demonic twins were in the middle, just jumping around and throwing shit everywhere as they were still high as fUCK from the FRUIT loops they ate for breakfast.
Suddenly, ‘World is Mine’ stopped playing, and the pilot made an announcement through the plane intercom. Or whatever it’s called lmao I don’t know.
“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome onboard Flight Miku. We will be taking off from Sapporo to Hajarputa. I am Sonic the Hedgehog and I am your pilot for today. Just kidding bitch, my name is actually うんち(‘Jonathan Harris’ in Japanese). We are expected to reach Hajarputa in about 22 hours. I swear to God, PLEASE put on your seatbelts or you’re gonna fucking die. We also ask that you ensure your seats are in the upright position for take-off, if not you’ll fucking die. Please turn off all personal electronic devices, if not you’ll fucking die as well. Don’t smoke too, cause you’ll get lung cancer and fucking die. Thank you for choosing Miku Airlines. Enjoy your flight. I definitely will not crash this plane. I swear.”
'World is Mine’ was back playing on loop again.
“Well that was comforting,” Meiko said, being a sarcastic piece of shit.
“Lol what? I don’t remember hiring this man,” Miku said. “Lol, whatever,” she shrugged.
Some time after the Miku Jet took off, Kaito and Meiko started fighting over what they would name their non-existent kid that they would never have.
“If she’s a girl, Sakura is the best name!! It represents beauty and optimism,” Kaito said.
“It also represents death,” Meiko argued. “And who the fuck names their kid after a plant? Enaado is the best name!!”
“The fuck kinda name is Enaado?” Len, who was seated far away from them, muttered to himself. Meiko, who was somehow able to hear him, pulled a super soaker gun out of nowhere and squirted him all the way from the other end of the plane.
Some hours later, the vocaloids were bored as heck and ‘World is Mine’ playing on loop was driving them to insanity(except for Miku of course).
“Can you turn that shit off, Miku? I swear to God, if I hear “sekai de ichiban ohime-sama” one more damn time, my internal organs are going to explode,” Luka said, smashing her head against the wall.
“Geez, fine, Luka! You don’t have to be so mean about it, it’s not my fault you don’t know how to appreciate good art,” Miku rolled her eyes, then she changed the song to ‘Popipo’ on loop, which was probably 100x worse.
“YOU’RE my sekai de ichiban ohime-sama, Me-chan~<3” Kaito UwU-ed. She smacked him with a magazine.
Another time skip, Miku wanted to play truth or dare lmao. Luka, Miku and the twins sat in a circle and started playing.
“Oh yeah, by the way, Mei-nee and Kai-nii are in the game too,” Miku said.
“Wtf no thanks,” Meiko immediately said, not looking up from her magazine about self control & anger management.
“No, you can’t escape, Mei-nee,” Miku replied, staring intensely into her soul. She then got a piece of rope out of nowhere and tied Meiko and Kaito to their chairs.
“TRUTH OR DARE, MEI-NEE?” Miku asked, her eye twitching.
“Ugh, fine. Truth,” Meiko replied, as she had no other choice.
Meanwhile, Kaito was having Vietnam war flashbacks as Miku tying him to the chair reminded him of that one time he got kidnapped by Sonic the Hedgehog. (An event that happened in my other fanfic that I’m not going to post.)
“Do you want to make out with Kai-nii?” Miku asked with a stupid shitty grin on her face.
“What the fuck? Oh, HELL NO. I think I already know how this is gonna go,” Meiko muttered.
“AnSwEr tHe qUeStiOn!!!” Miku yelled impatiently, flipping the fucking table.
“Dare!” Meiko quickly said, sweating.
“I dare you to make out with Kai-nii,” Miku said, raising her eyebrows up and down like fucking Mr. Bean.
Upon hearing this, Kaito’s attention was caught and he snapped out of his Vietnam war flashbacks.
“GODDAMN IT!!” Meiko cursed.
“Oh my GOD, Kaito. Don’t give me THAT look,” Meiko said, terrified for her life as she noticed Kaito looking at her with considerable interest.
“Why the hell did you give that dare, Miku? Literally NO ONE wants to see that shit,” Len said, staring judgingly at Miku. He definitely did not have to see his parents smashing their faces together.
“Yeah, Len’s right,” Luka said. “Aight, Imma head out. Bye bitches,” she flipped her fabulous long hair and strolled out elegantly. Once she reached her seat at the far corner of the plane, she opened her laptop and looked at images of the Gingerbread Man from Shrek.
“Shut up Len and just watch the show!” Rin, who was just as delusional as Miku, scolded.
“MEIKOUT MEIKOUT MEIKOUT MEIKOUT MEIKOUT” the crazy girls started chanting.
I’m so sorry
I really have no idea where this shitty fanfic is going
TIME SKIP LOL
It was nighttime and the Cryptonloids were sleeping in their beds with Miku blankets and ‘Popipo’ was still playing on loop. Suddenly, the Miku Jet started shaking really hard, then everyone flew out of their beds and hit their heads on the ceiling. After a few seconds, the Miku Jet stopped shaking and everyone fell back to the ground.
“Heh heh, sorry folks. Just a little air turbulence is all,” Pilot うんち announced.
“What the actual FUCK?? “A ‘liTtLE’ aIR tUrBuLeNcE” he said!! I don’t think we should be entrusting that guy with our LIVES!!” Meiko seethed. “I’m going to have a word with him.” she stormed off to the Pilot’s cabin.
“Wait Me-chan, I’ll come too,” Kaito said, and tagged along with her for extra support because he was a good boyfriend.
Once they reached the Pilot’s cabin, she slid open the door and shouted “LISTEN UP, MISTER, DO YOUR DAMN JOB PROPERLY!!”
“Oh, Meiko-san, hello!” the pilot spun his chair around and smiled. “Oh, Kaito, you’re here too! How’s it going, buddy? Has Sonic been bothering you any more?”
Meiko and Kaito’s eyes widened as they realised who the pilot was.
“FUKASE??!!!!” they screamed in shock. His Ronald Mcdonald hair was unmistakable.
“No, I’m うんち. Who the hell is Fukase?” うんち/Fukase said.
“WHY ARE YOU FLYING A PLANE, FUKASE??!! AREN’T YOU LIKE, FOURTEEN?!??!!!” Meiko screamed.
“Uh, no, I’m fifteen. Also, the age of consent in Japan is thirteen, sooo I don’t see any problem with it,” he replied.
“WHAT THE HELL DOES AGE OF CONSENT HAVE TO DO WITH FLYING A PLANE???!!” Meiko screamed, ripping her hair out. I really need to stop using scream.
"Umm… with all due respect, Fukase, are you even qualified for this?” Kaito spoke up.
“Yeah, DUH. I’ve had years worth of flight experience from Microsoft Flight Simulator on the Xbox!” he replied. “What kinda dumb shit would hire someone who ISN’T qualified??”
“oH mAN OH GOD OUR LIVES ARE IN THE HANDS OF THAT DUMB KID OH MAN OH GOD OH MAN OH GOD OH MAN OH GOD-“ Meiko was hyperventilating in the corner and hugging her legs, sweat pouring down her face. It was unlike her to freak out like this, she was usually calm and kept her cool. However, this is Fukase we’re talking about, and any rational person would be freaking out and fearing for their lives.
“Breathe, Me-chan, breathe,” Kaito attempted to calm her down. “Don’t worry, okay? Everything’s gonna be just fine. Nothing bad will happen. Everything is okay,” he assured her, hugging her tightly.
“How would YOU know that???” she asked.
“I don’t,” he replied. “When things get rough, denial is all we have,” he said, giving his Stupid Bakaito Grin™.

3 years of Sonic Forces, the biggest love-hate relationship of the series
[note: this is the translation of @latin-dr-robotnik’s article]
Tumblr media
Today is an almost special day, today it’s the anniversary of a rather peculiar game in this series.
On this day 3 years ago, the (to this day) newest game of Sonic Team was released: Sonic Forces. After waiting a year and a half since its announcement (and four years since Sonic Lost World’s release), it was finally time to see what the last chapter of the main series had in store for us, and the results were… okay.
There were so many warning signs in the months before the release: a marketing campaign that was noticeably absent until the very last month, opting to focus more on Mania (let’s not forget that we still get videos about Mania even after the game’s release, not so much about Forces), which added to the uncertainty caused by the footage already available at the time, which ended up being confirmed a few days before the release, when some people managed to get the game early and streamed a good chunk of the game. While one of the leakers was just a bad player, the quality of the game itself was put into question…
Tumblr media
A harsh reality
I’m not going to soften up my words here: for being the latest Sonic game, in a post-Generations and post-Boom era, Sonic Forces fell short of everything it tried to do (if it tried). Anything positive comes from the roots of something negative, and in the context of this anniversary, after 3 years without knowing a thing about the next game, it only emphasizes the frustration and the disappointment it caused.
Sonic Forces promised a world devastated by Eggman, an epic battle to save the world and win against a powerful enemy. However, of so many promises, not even the first one, the most basic one, was kept: it was an empty takeover, explained poorly (because they didn’t even show it, they told it through text) and developed even worse. All the potential of such an exciting world was thrown away as soon as the game didn’t even try to explain some of its most important questions (like why Green Hill was in the process of desertification); to this day we still don’t know what the fuck does the Phantom Ruby do, in Mania it has some powers, in Forces it has different powers, and it’s not clear where does it come from or if it’s more powerful than the Chaos Emeralds. It is disappointing to not be able to discover all this untapped potential, and it is so disappointing that one of the oldest works on my blog was an attempt to rewrite the beginning of the game, give it more context and a better footing to start the adventure.
Tumblr media
This old leak dates back to 2016, when the game was barely announced, and surprisingly it ended up being real, very very real. Even the title “Sonic Wars” is true, and if you don’t believe me you can open the game’s folder and read the names that appear. Source.
The confusion and disappointment don’t end here. If you have read the mess of opinions and emotions that is my analysis of the game [translator’s note: the link is in Spanish], you may have noticed that one of the biggest questions never answered was, what’s up with the order of the levels and why is it so confusing? Between 2016 and 2017, there were some leaks and statements going around places like Sonic Stadium that confirmed that the game went through numerous changes, not just in the plot, but in the levels as well. Right now I can’t find these old posts (I’m surprised that the fandom didn’t archive them), but it was said that the original idea for Forces, then still called Sonic Wars, was to shine the spotlight even more on the Avatar, or Buddy as it was called; the decision was unanimously rejected by SEGA of America and Europe, forcing SEGA of Japan to order that the game was modified. In fact, I remember that the leak that mentioned this meeting between the SEGA branches was rather bad, with a very tense atmosphere and lots of disagreements.
Tumblr media
This is the closest thing to a confirmation of the scrapped plot that I could find. At least it’s proof that I’m not crazy and that Forces was indeed more focused on the Avatar. Source.
The mess that is the order of the levels, the questionable presence of characters like Classic Sonic, and some of the details of one of the leaked scrapped scripts such as that apparently they considered to reintroduce Mephiles – all of this shapes the network of a mediocre game, created under the premise of “from the creators of Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations” but taking all the wrong parts of those two games, using an engine that has been proven to be less efficient than Unleashed’s and Generations (and I’m not talking about the Hedgehog Engine, which is the graphical engine – I’m talking about the game and physics engine of Lost World), and with short levels and… polarizing bosses, to say the least.
The result is a game that shows a lot of potential, but in practice it doesn’t live up to it at all, be it for its own limitations (being rushed like hell) or for a noticeable lack of attention to details; it didn’t succeed in creating a cohesive and coherent world, with levels that could be worthy of what has been learned in these years. This is the reality of Sonic Forces.
Tumblr media
And yet...
Despite everything I’ve just said, despite all the unacceptable errors that Forces made, and despite all the terribly wasted potential… we still talk about this game.
There are many reasons. On one hand, Forces and Mania have been the latest Sonic games for 3 years now, which is tragic in on itself (Team Sonic Racing disappeared from the face of the Earth); on the other, we still talk about Forces because there is something that still attracts us to it.
It’s not the same attraction we feel for Sonic ‘06, though. Forces is not a complete, almost-franchise-killing disaster like ‘06 was, it’s not a giant meme that spread from the fandom to popular circles and internet figures such as the Game Grumps. People have been trying to fix Forces’ mistakes, but not on the same scale as projects that tries to completely recreate ‘06 with a radically different engine, or fix each and every bug in the original version. Forces is nowhere near as infamous, and so the discussion goes in different directions.
youtube
Episode Shadow is still one of the most entertaining parts of the game, and one of the most important as well, as Shadow himself hadn’t been a playable character since… well, Sonic ‘06.
On one hand, there is a cult surrounding Infinite, one that I personally don’t agree with, and I don’t know if it’s bigger than Mephiles’ 15 years ago, but I do know that it exists and it’s still present. One of the ways Sonic Team tried to “go back to its roots” was to introduce a character like Infinite in a plot that was supposed to be “more serious”. Final results notwithstanding, Infinite managed to win the heart of a sizeable portion of the fandom, which still wishes for his return and development.
On the other hand, there is the Avatar, our personal OC with an impressive customization system, which allows us complete freedom, to the point that we could recreate characters introduced in Sonic IDW like Whisper the Wolf. What at first looked like a questionable idea, nothing more than a source of memes, ended up becoming the smartest idea Forces had, with a gameplay style that, in my opinion, retains a little of the old Adventure spirit, and even had some of the most fun levels in the game. While Classic Sonic ruined one third of the game, and Sonic was somewhat mediocre compared to his past feats, the Avatar’s gameplay style manages to keep its quality throughout the game, despite the fact that the plot keeps revolving around their presence instead of focusing on the other aspects of saving the world, which is... well, a little unfortunate.
Tumblr media
Even I, who I’m not really into Sonic OCs, had a lot of fun recreating some of the characters.
And finally we get to the best part of the entire game: the music.
Even after three years my opinions haven’t changed much. Forces’ music isn’t perfect, it has its low moments (I feel like I’m the only one who doesn’t like Light of Hope) and some disasters (F*ded H*lls lol), but overall it has good intentions and it has some pretty good highlights.
The use of synths, as overdone and criticized as it is, was an honest attempt to follow a trend present in older games, like Sonic Unleashed, where this instrument symbolized Eggman’s influence. An interesting touch that, while wasn’t completely successful, is appreciated.
youtube
I still say that Fighting Onward is one of the best themes of the entire game, and Spaceport as the level benefits from having it.
Then there’s the best part of the entire soundtrack: the return of vocal themes, such as the main theme, the villain theme, and some of the level themes. I cannot explain with enough words how much fans were waiting for this, and it was brilliantly handled by the advertising campaign: a preview of the instrumental version of Fist Bump, a short peek of the Avatar themes, and finally the reveal of some of the major themes. It’s not surprising that it became one of the most appreciated parts by the fans. From the iconic intro of Fading World to the subtle nod to Green Hill in Set In Motion, every theme has something that makes it stand out from the rest of the game.
But even so, the rest of the music in the game has redeemable points as well. Forces in general distances itself from the music styles previously used in the series, especially from the variety of incredible sounds of Unleashed or even Lost World; but from time to time it still recognizably Sonic, like in the half-Megaman, half-Runners Network Terminal, in the extremely epic and underrated Last Judgement, or in the always-mentioned Ghost Town (not the only “good” Classic theme in my opinion, but the first one that comes to mind). Even the remixed Zavok theme sound better in Forces than in its original version.
Tumblr media
A love-hate relationship
At the end of the day, the only thing left I could say is that Forces is still one of the most polarizing games in the series. 3 years aren’t enough to heal some of the wounds left by the 4-year hiatus, plus the disappointment of the time, but at the same time these 3 years kept alive the memory of its best moment, the discussions about the music and the uncountable groups of fans reunited to share OCs like the fandom has always done.
In this anniversary, I thought it would be interesting to revisit a bit the peculiar relationship I have with this game, as we wait for a new hype cycle for the next game. And maybe, just maybe, that will be the moment Forces will fade from our collective memory, at least for a decade, until new fans will look back to the good and bad this game has done. And I hope that, in the future, the situation of the franchise will also be different from what it has been these last years, in a good way of course.
This is all we have left of Forces today, a game that did not manage to capitalize on its opportunities, and a game that shames the legacy of the Unleashed-Colors-Generations era; but also a game that had some genuine, interesting ideas, and a different musical direction, one that (with some exceptions) was what the fans wanted. It’s a polarizing game, it’s a love-hate relationship.

Sonic: The Hedgehog (2020)
Tumblr media
Sonic: The Hedgehog (2020)
Greeting my flock of film freaks and welcome again to the Cult of Cult. Todays offering is a bit more of the mainstream blockbuster variety, but as films based on Video Games are still actually quite niche and vastly underestimated I think we should open our hearts to Sonic: The Hedgehog and hope that we find it a pleasing tithe to the cult. I am your beloved minster, The Reverend Chainsaw, and welcome to today’s service.
The Message
I must confess to the congregation that I was drinking mighty heavily of the lord’s Tennessee sour mash when I was taking in this movie. That said, I think that this is a great movie to have a drink with and I mean that in the best possible way.
Sonic: The Hedgehog is of course based on the Sega video game franchise and stars Ben Schwartz as the titular blue rat. Schwartz brings his brand of high energy enthusiastic comedy to the voice role. While Schwartz is particularly on brand for Schwartz, is he on brand for Sonic? I’m not entirely sure, but I’m also not entirely sure I was ever in love with the old ways. I am not an avid fan or consumer of Sonic media and perhaps that means I am in a poor position to say. I am most familiar with the Sega games and Sonic cartoons from the 90s, and from what I have grasped the more recent entries with their more anime centric and high lore plots still owe quite a bit to the attitude era of the 90s. Sonic was a hero but he was also a bit of a cross between Mickey Mouse, the Flash, and Bart Simpson. As an angsty 90s boy I wanted to eat chili dogs and go very fast that was very appealing to me, but I’m not so sure it would be appealing to a vast audience of older millennials, or even todays kids. And though I think it would be a fair criticism to say that Ben Schwartz is playing sonic as basically the superhero version of his Dewey Duck from the VERY VERY good DuckTales reboot, I don’t think that it’s necessarily a bad thing.
Dewey Duck the Hedgehog is a small mammal (also not a rodent, I wanted to say rodent and apparently hedgehogs are not rodents, just googled it) from an alien planet where his adoptive mother, an owl named Long Claw, fears that he will be hunted for his special powers, which I think is just super speed but it might be other things. In line with these concerns after an attack by pursuers Longclaw gives Sonic the Moses treatment and floats the special blue boy down the metaphorical river. Unlike Moses, however, Sonic is not found by ultra rich ultra powerful extra special people but is instead alone. Sonic lives alone in exile outside a small American town as a sort of local cryptid.
Thus begins a charming adventure. Through a poor decision to use his powers while working out some personal issues, Sonic inadvertantly draws the attention of the U.S Government and their nasty big brain baddy Dr. Robotnik. Sonic recruits a small town police officer with big city dreams to assist him in finding his magic rings so that he might flee from earth to an uninhabited mushroom kingdom.
Now about these two human characters. Officer Everyman is played by cyclops from the X-men franchise. The actors name escapes me and so does the characters, and while, yes, I just looked up if hedgehogs were rodents, I will not be looking up this information. I like the review better this way. It makes me laugh. And while I don’t remember his name, I do remember that he used to live In Mt. Juliet, TN.  Anyway, what you should know about Officer Goodguy is that he drives a Toyota Tacoma!
That Toyota Tacoma is also continuously abused by the mad machinations of our films biggest draw: Jim Carey as Dr. Robotnik. If we were to pitch a Sonic movie, I don’t think anyone would jump to Jim Carey as the must have for the role, but after seeing this film, boy was it the best choice. The way he chews the scenery and plays off the rest of the cast and situations is just so much fun to watch. It’s fantastic to see Jim Carey back in a larger than life role. The Decision to play Jim Carey as the kind of condescending nerd who has taken their lack of social skills and leaned in as opposed to working on themselves was a brilliant choice. We’ve all known that kind of guy who tries to play the misanthrope just because they are too egotistical to recognize their flaws. Here Dr. Robotnik has given up on human connection in favor of subordination. His intellect is his only value, and thus he demands everyone around him acknowledge intellect as the only quality that matters as he has. It was a great choice.
From the point the chase begins the film becomes a road trip flick, and despite the fact that Sonic could supposedly cover the distance required in the blink of an eye we watch the ins and outs of our heroes relationship as they learn what home, and being a hero mean to them. By the climax it is pretty by the numbers, Sonic has come to feel at home on Earth and now that he has friends who care for him they can begin to make a world from which neither will have to flee; and of course, they beat the bad guy. FOR NOW. we are treated to an even crazier Dr. Robotnik stranded in the Fungus Dimension bent on revenge.
The Benediction
Now for all things Holy and Profane in this film, please rise for the Benediction.
Best Scandal: Sonic the Cosmic Horror
The original look of this film was mired in dread when the early footage and trailers dropped revealing a hideously uncanny hedgehog monster in the form of sonic. The memes are amazing, the toys are unsettling, there’s still plenty of Quasimodo Sonic stuff out there floating on the web and I suggest that you search it out, the laughter is good for your heart. Also if anyone wants to send me any creepy sonic merch I’ll take it.
Thanks to the work of online fans and internet harassments, the studio felt it was going to lose money on the project and reeled back the release allowing for the design department to give us a more cartoony but less frightening alien monster. I mean he’s a cartoon, it’s okay for him to look like a cartoon.
Best Scene: Noodle Dance
It’s hard to choose, and it feels a bit biased, but there are a few scenes with Dr. Robotnik that are just what make the movie more than a forgettable IP adaptation. Not that Ben Schwartz wasn’t doing great as the character but I feel Sonic as a whole would be lost in the milieu of CG spectacles and Super Hero Origin stories that we are bombarded with every year if not for Jim Carey’s performances; and even with them Sonic: The Hedgehog is not completely out of those woods. That said, I think Dr. Robotnik’s Alone Time Dance Party has to be the stand out sequence in my memory. I can’t really speak to what makes it so enjoyable, but damn if it isn’t just the best scene in the movie.
Best Character: Silicon Valley Dr. Robotnik
Do I even need to say it? It’s Dr. Robotnik. I’m not a fan of this villain from any other media. I always found Dr. Robotniks look unappealing, I’m not a huge fan of his powers, or using robot henchman. it always struck me as pretty boring how Sonic didn’t have a cool rogues gallery (i’m talking about 90s sonic) the way Mario did. However, they did something with the design, characterization, and performance that just made him such a fun villain. Also, my friend Jacksons mom said I looked like him and it didn’t hurt my feelings so.
Best Actor: Jim Carey
Jim Carey. It really seems like he’s all I’m talking about in this movie. Once again, I think Ben Schwartz did great and Sonic IS basically Dewey Duck in this movie. Dewey Duck is my favorite part of the rebooted DuckTales series, BUT he is just outmaneuvered by Jim Carey in this role. I think it’s a compliment enough to say that Ben Schwartz was even able to keep up with his energy, let alone play his quicker perkier foil.
Worst Scene: Toyota Tacoma Commercial
Sonic: the Hedgehog’s worst scene would probably have to be the forced friend fight between Sonic and Officer Wachowski  during the car chase. It’s an overproduced weightless car chase scene with a contrived buddy cop controversy meant to force apart our heroes so that they can ultimately grow a little and come back together later in the movie. Not that I mind a movie like this to be so by the numbers, but it just felt like two of the blandest things on this movies plate being forced into one scene. I do like the idea of giving me the crap part of the dish in one flavorless generic bite, but that still doesn’t save it from being the worst scene in the movie.
That Toyota Tacoma took a beating though.
Worst Feature: Nothing Ventured/ Nothing Earned
I’m sure many fans would feel that the worst feature of the film is that it isn’t loyal to any previous lore laden version of the character, (probably the one they like the most). In the portrayals of both Sonic and Dr. Robotnik there were decisions made that drastically differed from the ways they have been portrayed before. Sonic is naïve and idealistic, a bit childish, Dr. Robotnik is driven by a lot of insecurity. Where are the Chaos Crystals and my original character Grindy the Wolf Cub?
But I think that these are over all positive choices in a film that otherwise chose to play it incredibly safe. In their cautious approach to appeal to the widest possible audience the film makers gave us a pleasant and appealing cartoon romp but we are left with little to hold on to. The worst feature of Sonic: The Hedgehog is it’s safety.
Summary:
Sonic: The Hedgehog is often touted as “the first good video game movie”. A label that I disagree with wholeheartedly. It is certainly a good video game movie, but it’s not the first, and it is not by leaps and bounds better than other video game movies as a whole. It’s a sub genre that gets a ton of disrespect, and in a world where the biggest criticism levied against the Super Mario Bros is that it’s not a faithful adaptation, I don’t understand how Sonic the Buddy Cop/ Road Trip comedy is escaping that attitude.
All that said, I had a good time with this movie. But it felt like playing on the playground as a toddler. You have fun and then you leave and you don’t really remember what you played or who with. I’ll think about Jim Carey and Dewey Duck, but I had a hard time hating or loving anything this movie did in any strong way. I usually feel that a movie that is “bad” or “corny” or “shlocky” is always better than a movie that is generic, or pointless, or boring. Sonics pleasantness and cheerful energy just barely save it from being another Transformers franchise. I get that origin stories are hard, so I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment, and hopefully it’s going to do something that sets it apart. Probably not.
Overall Grade: C
James Marsden! I just remembered!

Five months later…
If Y/n had to pick one period of her life where everything was perfect, it would be this one.
It had been five months since the great attack between Y/n, Sonic, and Dr. Robotnik had occurred and no one had seen or heard a thing about the crazy man in ages. While Y/n and Sonic had been staying in isolation inside the Wachowski residence, the government was sweeping the streets and subtly interrogating citizens in order to see if they had any knowledge of their whereabouts. After a couple of months, they eventually gave up and plopped the case into the cold. Once things were finally deemed safe, and after a thorough inspection by Tom, Y/n and Sonic were able to roam about Green Hills freely again.
You would think that the people would freak out a little bit whenever they saw two alien hedgehogs walking down the streets, cracking weird jokes and singing or zipping around the place. But they actually saw the two as their own special town heroes; like they had their own unique Superman and Superwoman. Y/n was even asked to start helping Crazy Carl again in his notorious escapades of eliminating all the racoons, who he claimed were secretly geniuses and were rummaging through our trash to find anything valuable to power their supercomputers.
I mean… he was right about Sonic, so why not give him a chance?
Sonic was even asked to help around the bakeries and grocers with some doordash delivery services, making some extra cash for his Less Than 3 Seconds delivery service. He liked to brag about the fact that he could take literally anything from the store and hardly anyone would bat an eye. This also meant that anytime Y/n even mentioned that she needed something, he would disappear and then be back in a blink holding that exact thing. With Sonic and Y/n being able to make some extra cash helping around, it encouraged Tom and Maddie to work even harder at their jobs as well. Tom reclaimed his throne as Green Hills’ favorite cop, and Maddie went back to the pet hospital. The shared strange experiences that the four had encountered only proceeded to bond them together to form an even tighter family than they ever were before. Tom and Maddie had to admit that it did take them a while to get used to Y/n’s true form, but they loved every inch of her and were simply happy that she was happy.
Of course, enrolling them into public school was still a huge no, so they kept up the homeschooling as well. Knowing Sonic, he caught up to Y/n super fast, and it wasn’t too long before the two were helping each other Quick Study using flash cards and exercising at the same time. Speaking of their relationship, Tom had finally listened to Maddie and backed off a little bit to give room for their relationship to flourish. Because hey, if Y/n’s boyfriend was living under his roof, then he could control him like a puppet if he ever did anything to hurt her, right?
But… there was one teeny tiny, itsy bitsy little problem.
Y/n and Sonic never talked about… that night. You know. When they said “I love you.” Of course, they had always planned on it. But they were never quite able to find the right time. Just as they were about to get ready for the talk, Tom or Maddie would walk in or they would suddenly remember needing to do something and race off without even thinking. Maybe they were subconsciously intentionally avoiding the subject. It was a pretty intense conversation after all, and the damper as to whether or not the other had changed their mind always remained a prominent issue.
Fear is very debilitating, you know.
But their feelings were growing stronger by the day. Every second that they spent with one another was a moment that they never wanted to end. This evening was one of those moments.
Tom and Maddie had been invited out to dinner with some of Tom’s work buddies and their wives, so while they were out drinking finely aged wine and trying to figure out what the best angle was to bite on some cheese bread, Y/n and Sonic had the house to themselves.
Of course, Ozzy was their chaperone.
The two had planned an amazing afternoon of relaxation by plucking out a huge pile of movies to watch until they passed out from exhaustion. Most of them consisted of horribly rated horror movies so that they could make fun of them, while others consisted of action and romcoms that you just had to watch one more time. They had decided to take a break to make themselves a nice and healthy dinner, just like Tom and Maddie had wanted them to. It ended up looking more like an ice cream sundae, filled with (favorite ice cream), banana slices, sprinkles, chocolate syrup, waffle cookies, and a bunch of other stuff that Sonic had thrown in there.
“Oh, damnit,” Y/n sighed as she stood on the kitchen counter, arms holding the cabinet doors open. “We don’t have any Eggos.”
“Fret not, M’Lady,” Sonic cried dramatically from his spot on the kitchen island. His green eyes sparkled with excitement as Y/n chuckled, her cheeks turning red at the nickname. He had gotten a bit too into the fantasy movie they had just finished watching. “Your hero is here!”
And in a blue flash, he was gone. In the time that it took Y/n to blink, he was already back, holding three packs of her favorite kind of Eggos in his arms. He tossed two of them in the fridge and held one package out to her proudly.
“Why, thank you, Sonic,” she giggled, deciding to keep her mythical accent in order to please him. Her gloved hand brushed against his as she took the pack out of his hands, a little flicker of electricity excitedly floating across their skin at the contact. She quickly ripped it open and plopped two of the waffles onto the sundae, smiling proudly.
“Dinner!”
Another dozen switched positions on the couch and two more movies in, Y/n and Sonic finally ended up settling on The Conjuring. Their bellies were full of junk food and were covered up with soft blankets as they huddled together. There were a few jumpscared that actually got Y/n, but for the most part the only tension came from the decreasing distance between the two hedgehogs. Just as the credits were rolling across the screen, Sonic had wrapped his arm around Y/n’s shoulders in a totally casual manner. They listened silently to the eerie music as the actors went floating up the darkened screen. Ozzy lay passed out on the floor in front of them, next to the coffee table that held all of their dirty dishes. Y/n’s heart began to pound and her stomach felt like it was going to crawl up and spew out of her mouth as she finally turned her head to face Sonic.
“Hey, Son…?”
“Yeah?” He turned to her, the darkened screen making his emerald eyes grow paranormally in the dark. Hers were doing the same. They scooted away just an inch or two so that they were facing one another, Sonic’s arm still splayed across the back of the couch as he looked at her with curious, yet affectionate eyes. Y/n cleared her throat, trying to figure out how she wanted to begin this. It was now or never, right? And they had already waited for quite some time.
“I… I know that we never really talked about… um… you know,” she silently kicked herself for making things so awkward, but her nerves were getting the better of her. She could practically feel her tail shaking behind her. “I meant what I said. And I need to know if you did too…” Her heart was pounding so rapidly she could barely think over the sound, nerves skyrocketing through the roof. E/c eyes began to fill with a mixture of hope and fear as she looked up into Sonic’s emerald ones. His mouth opened and shut like a fish, void of any sound. She could only fear the worst… he didn’t mean it. He didn’t care about her the way that she did about him, did he? He secretly hated h-
“Of course I meant it! Y/n, I’ve been in love with you for as long as I can remember. I guess I just never really realized it until now,” He gave her a sheepish smile, his seriousness being a completely new side of him that only ever came out when he was sincere about something. Y/n felt the butterflies go nuts in her stomach, a blush rising across her cheeks. “I think we both know that we’re kind of entirely new to this, but I was just afraid to ruin things between us. We’ve been running for most of our lives, never really having a place to call our home. But throughout all of the hard times and adventures we’ve been through, you were the one constant. Whenever I look at you…” Sonic’s emerald gaze softened as a loving smile game across his lips. “I’m home.”
A huge grin took over Y/n’s face, her eyes beginning to fill with tears of happiness. “Sonic… you’re my home, too.” Before he had a chance to say more beautiful things to make her heart melt, she threw her arms around his furry neck and buried her head in his neck. Sonic was quick to return the gesture, wrapping his arms around her waist and hugging her tightly. It felt like cloud nine being there with one another, knowing that they felt the same. That they would make things work just like they always did. They fat together like two pieces of a puzzle; the one person that they could never get tired of. The one person that they loved everything about. The one person who was their home. Home never truly was just one place, was it?
It was them.
Tumblr media
“Okay, okay,” Y/n slowly breathed as they finally pulled apart. She ran a nervous gloved hand through her quills and gave him a bashful smile. “We’ll take things slow? Since we’re so new to this and everything.” Sonic eagerly nodded.
“Yes! I mean, yeah sure,” he attempted to play it cool by leaning back against the couch, but his excitement remained ever present in his eyes every time he looked at her. “Slow. Oh, and um, how are we going to make sure Donut Lord doesn’t kill me?”
Y/n giggled, moving closer to her partner and snuggling up into his side. Sonic happily obliged by wrapping his one arm around her and pulling her closer into him. The warmth of his body heat made her never want to leave as she hummed softly to lift the TV remote over to hand.
“You let me take care of that. By the way, Conjuring? Yay or nay?”
“Oh my god, don’t even get me started! First of all, every single person in here is suffering from an extreme lack of Snickers. Like seriously. They just ain’t themselves when they’re hungry.”
♡♡♡
At around eleven o’clock, Maddie and Tom Wachowski quietly slipped through their front door. After the very interesting dinner with their friends, the gang had wanted to go out and get some drinks. Seeing no way out of it, they decided to tag along. It was only when Wade tried to strip and ride a mechanical bull at the same time that they called it a night. They knew Y/n and Sonic well enough to figure that they would have passed out on the couch watching movies, and their suspicions were confirmed when they saw the TV still flashing scenes from Dead Silence across the quiet living room.
The couple quietly made their way into the hall and peered into the room to see the two hedgehogs passed out on the couch. Sonic lay on his back with his arms wrapped around Y/n, whose head rested on his chest and her legs were splayed across the other half of the couch. The sight was so adorable that it brought Maddie back to her young love days as she pressed a hand against her chest. A smile formed across her face as she watched the steady rise and fall of their breathing. Unfortunately, Tom was not quite as happy.
“W-what the hell?” His grip on their leftovers tightened as he stared daggers at Sonic’s arm wrapped tightly around his daughter’s waist. “Please tell me I’m dreaming.”
“Oh, come on, Tom,” Maddie playfully smacked him in the chest. “They’re just kids. They’ve known each other their whole life, remember?” Tom let out a defeated huff, but his lips were still edged in a frown.
“But… that’s my daughter right there. And that’s a boy. With his arm. Doing things.” He turned to stare intensely at his wife. “Things I don’t like.”
Maddie laughed quietly at his expression, and grabbed his arm to tug him with her into the kitchen. “Okay, here’s what we’re going to do. I’m going to take off these high heels that feel like nails and take a nice long bath while you put the leftovers away and raid the icebox to see if we still have those macaroons the kids got us for Valentine’s day.” She pecked him on the cheek, a warm smile floating across her lips as she looked him in the eyes. “Okay?”
“Y-yes ma’am.” Years of being married, and Maddie was still able to catch him off guard.
♡♡♡
A couple hours later, the house had fallen completely silent. Even Ozzy’s snoring had ceased to an open mouthed whistle as he lay on his stomach, belly exposed to the air of the living room. Maddie and Tom lay fast asleep under the covers of their bed, and Y/n and Sonic remained asleep on the couch. Everything was silent until a slow, melodic tune floated through the air.
Y/n stirred on Sonic’s chest. She unconsciously buried her head deeper into his fur in an attempt to float back into the REM cycle. But the tune came once again, this time more forcefully. Demanding attention. When it realized Y/n was still asleep, it wafted through the air, this time louder.
Y/n’s e/c eyes popped open. She gulped, recognizing the sound instantly. Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Last time she acknowledged the sound, it shot her on a brand new adventure in which she almost lost the love of her life. She turned her head back to Sonic’s chest, pointedly glaring at the air around her in hopes that whatever it was would get the hint. A couple of moments passed in silence, and her heartbeat finally slowed. Her eyelids gradually fluttered closed.
Ah~, ah~...

It Spreads
(This is the 1st prompt that the lovely @annikatti proposed to have done!)
The second everyone got on Angel Island, Sonic started running. Save a brief greeting to Knuckles, of course. He could practically feel the virus trying to latch itself on his mind, ripping away every little bit of himself. He was tired of running, but things like that wouldn’t let him rest.
So he kept running.
He kept running for a good 30 minutes, maybe an hour. Sonic wasn’t sure. All he knew was that he was tired, and the virus receeded back under his skin. It was gone for now. He slowed to a stop and took a deep breath.
He’d been running around the perimeter of the island, knowing everyone else was in the middle. He didn’t want to run into anyone. While he would be fine, they certainly wouldn’t. Force was damage enough; Sonic didn’t even want to think about the virus.
When had he last touched someone? Oh, right, Tangle. It had felt so good, then, yet so sad. He wanted to help people, but he was just a liability. A guilty, faulty liability. He didn’t stop Eggman. He didn’t stop Metal. He didn’t stop anything, and now he was just a walking time bomb that could turn other people into theoretical time bombs.
He’d avoided it for so long. He almost messed up a few times at first, but he didn’t. He hadn’t gotten anyone hurt. Sonic’s breathing quickened. He’d done something right, hadn’t he? Amy, Espio, Emerl, Cream, Whisper, Rouge, Silver, Tails… they were all OK for now. Not to mention the handful of civilians they still had. They were still OK. Sonic hadn’t touched them.
He was in the carrier and the room was too crowded. Too crowded, too crowded. Sonic, move, move you’re gonna HIT someone and they’ll all hate you-
Nope. No. Not thinking about it. Sonic didn’t realize how lightheaded he was. Was he breathing? Did he want to start again? Not really. He could stay there for a little, and everyone would be fine. They didn’t need him. They didn’t-
Sonic staggered and pitched forward onto the grass.
----
Tails was worried.
There were many things for Tails to worry about. The apocalypse, no cure for the apocalypse, losing his friends to the apocalypse, and almost losing his brother to the apocalypse. Turns out, the end of the world is quite worrying. He was trying, though. He was helping Amy whenever he could. He’d sent her to bed at least three times the past two days, just trying to let her get some peace for once. He had to fly the carrier here because she fell asleep doing it. It was worrying.
What was more worrying was that Sonic was nowhere to be seen. He knew the blue hero ran off about an hour ago, for good reason. Everyone was on edge with Sonic being that close. He had been clean when he got in, save for a patch or two. It just… got worse. And he couldn’t run off like normal. Everyone was tired and wanted to rest, so Sonic didn’t even try to run in place. He sat down, curled up as tight as he could, and waited. Tails watched him.
The virus seemed to start in multiple spots. The right side of Sonic’s head, his left hand, and his mouth. It even creeped into Sonic’s mouth, grossly enough. Or, it seemed to. Sonic only opened his mouth a few times. He wasn’t asleep, that was for sure, but he wasn’t moving. To Tails, that was a level of disturbing only rivalled by the virus. Sonic shouldn’t be still. That wasn’t his thing, and it never should be. Sonic was always moving, always smiling. To see him so cold and unmoving felt… wrong.
Yet Tails said nothing, and neither did Sonic. He left him to go check on Amy and when he saw him again, he…
Tails ran out of the pilot’s area and towards Sonic. “Hey, Sonic, we’ve-“ he never finished that thought, because the first thing he saw was one red eye. It seemed to stare into him, as if Tails didn’t exist, but something else. Then he saw the pale, metallic blue sheen. He was too late, he was too late, too late too late-
Wasn’t prepared for that level of infection. He didn’t want to be able to imagine what Sonic the Zombot looked like. Didn’t want to know just how wrong it would feel to look Sonic in the eyes, and know that part of Sonic didn’t recognize him right then. But it was OK, Sonic left and started running.
He just hadn’t come back yet.
Tails told Espio, the closest nearby, he was going to look for Sonic. He wanted someone to know where he was. He wasn’t sure why, but it made him feel safer. Sonic didn’t have to be feared, though. They were safe. This was a safe place.
He decided to look in the most barren places he could. Knowing Sonic, he’d pick the spot with the least amount of danger from himself. And so he searched. For… about 30 minutes. As luck would have it, or, perhaps more aptly, as luck would unfortunately have it, he found Sonic.
Sonic limp and lifeless on the ground, with a pale blue metallic coat.
Tails ran for him, yelling his name. He wasn’t moving, so he wasn’t turned yet. There was still a chance.
But Sonic didn’t respond.
Tails got close enough to realize that Sonic wasn’t just lying down; he was unconscious. Flying around the hedgehog slowly and carefully revealed a few things to Tails.
Sonic had bigger bags than Mary Poppin’s under his eyes, his position was unnatural, like he’d fallen, and he was far, far too skinny to be healthy. Come to think of it, Tails hadn’t seen Sonic sleep or eat in days. They had food, of course, but whenever it was handed out, Sonic was nowhere to be seen. Tails realized that even if Sonic had eaten, it wouldn’t have mattered. Sonic was running too much, and there was no way they could afford to have kept up with the amount of calories Sonic was burning through.
No wonder he fainted. The problem was the virus, now. It was almost to the point it was earlier. Sonic’s face was clean, so was a bit of his upper arm. It was spreading, though, slowly but surely. He had to wake Sonic up.
“Sonic, you have to get up,” normal voice, no response. “Please,” a little bit louder. “Sonic, get up!” He shouted this time, panicked. Nothing. No response. He didn’t have time to find something to poke Sonic with. A tree branch would only get infected. Tails stared at the uninfected parts of Sonic. It was just the face. Tails moved as quick as he could and smacked his brother. He pulled back as if Sonic was on fire. Hit him hard and hit him fast.
Sonic’s eyes snapped open and he sat up with a yelp. “What the- Tails?” concerned green eyes met scared blue, and Tails didn’t have anything to say, suddenly.
He was just very aware of the coldness of his finger. Both pairs of eyes slowly drifted down to that shaking hand, to that shaking finger. The shiny pale yellow-orange slowly spreading down it to the rest of his body.
“Tails? Buddy?” And Sonic was up, hands hovering close, wanting to comfort but afraid of causing more damage. “I-I’m so sorry, Tails, I…” it hurt to hear the emotion in that voice. Tails knew Sonic was trying to be strong, trying to be there for him.
Sonic could survive being infected.
Tails could not.
But yet, he just found himself smiling. “I knew the risks. They need you, Sonic. As long as you’re there, it’ll end up alright. I let you leave once, Sonic, I’m not doing it again,” he said.
“You didn’t leave me, I failed you then, Tails, and I can’t-“
“It’s not a matter of can and can not. You have to. They need some hope.” Tails stepped forward and hugged his brother. Sonic stood there, unresponsive, until he returned the hug suddenly. “Now I have to get out of here.”
“Tails, maybe we can-“
“We can’t cage me. I can’t fight this.” Tails moved past Sonic, ignoring the heartbreak and tears on the hedgehog’s face, and moved towards the ledge. Everything that could fly could still fly as a zombot. He’d be OK. He hoped.
“I’m sorry.” It was so quiet, so broken. Tails looked back at his brother. Half of his own body was gone to the virus. He tried to smile, but it was only a faint smirk.
“S’ not your fault, Sonic. Just save us like always, alright?”
And he stepped off.
----
Everyone was worried when they heard the scream.
It wasn’t even really a scream, it was more of a wail. If it had been anywhere else but Angel Island, they would’ve expected it. But this was the one safe place they had left.
No one had heard that sound before, it was foreign and unfamiliar. It was filled with pain and anguish and anger that was all mixed together.
It was 10 minutes till they found the source.
Or, more precisely, the source found them. Sonic appeared, somehow appearing more beaten-down than anyone there. He was sparsely patched with the virus, but what truly alarmed everyone was the tears pouring down the hero’s face. The heavy sobs that wracked his body.
Espio, the only one who had the information required to figure it out, paled.
“He’s gone.” It was all Sonic said. “He’s gone.”

If you're comfortable sharing your thoughts on Shadow's current portrayal according to Sega Mandates(tm), I'd be interested to hear it. If I were to try and rationalize it on my own, the best I can come up with is that Shadow's not in a good place right now mentally and is lashing out because of some inner turmoil he's refusing to share.
I am very comfortable sharing! >:D I hope y’all are good with reading ‘cause this is gonna be LONG.
I... don’t like it. Mostly based on personal preference and nostalgia glasses. I will say I have my own theories about what’s going on with him.
1. He’s going through things, like you said.
I can see where this is coming from and from a retelling stand point- I think we all know about Shadow’s past. We all know what he’s done. But we don’t know what this world’s Shadow has done yet. While Shadow may be unwilling to share, the beauty about a visual medium is that we should be able to see what’s going on despite his wants on the matter. Nothing has been forthcoming thus far, and while I understand this is Sonic’s comic, I think we all wanna know what the heck is going on with Shadow.
2. All rivals must be Vegeta.
Speaks for itself. Vegeta is a great favorite amongst fans (including myself) and went through a HUGE boost in popularity after the events of Dragon Ball Super. My problem with this theory is I feel that Vegeta got more popular... because he was allowed to be softer and got to lose some of his high and mightiness without going full OOC. Shadow hasn’t been allowed ANY of the same freedom, so this is less of a viable theory in my mind. What brings it to mind in the first place is that Knuckles was once Sonic’s rival as well. Now that he’s more his buddy and a signature part of Team Sonic, Sonic needs a more prominent/serious rival. Someone who isn’t going to just join the main gang and always be his own separate thing. Keeping him as a Vegeta type makes it so it’s much more marketable when he does get to team up with the rest of the team.
Which... hasn’t gone well in IDW world considering every time he’s gotten involved he’s just managed to make things a little bit worse.
3. They want to kill off ShadAmy for good.
Or rather less specifically ALL of Shadow’s ships. And everyone else’s. This is less of a theory and more of a whine. We haven’t seen him have ANY positive interactions with ANYONE in this comic series so far. Yes, he gave into Sonic in issue 6 over Mr. Tinker, but I hardly call that positive. He’s seen TRAVELING with Rouge, but again, nothing specifically positive. I get not wanting to encourage romance, I mean, the fandom can be fairly divisive at the best of times, imagine them trying to ship tease. They HAVE to be seeing what’s going on with the Avatar Fandom recently, good GOD.
And being a loner character isn’t so bad, I mean, look at Knuckles! But when you’ve made it so that he doesn’t look particularly happy or fulfilled even when alone? Like, what’s the point? Why have Shadow in the story if all he’s going to do is mess up and be a stick in the mud all the time? Why is he part of the world if he isn’t allowed to interact with any of it?
And my most prominent theory (please, dear god, let this be the reason)
4. They’re getting to it.
They’re rebooting the series again- which means Shadow as we know him is starting over. I’m HOPING that he’s starting here, and that he will eventually be allowed to grow from his failures- like they’re trying to Zuko him (or maybe more appropriately “Sokka” him. Sokka was really hard to love in the first few episodes). Right now Shadow’s just a REALLY uninteresting, charmless version of early “planet destroying” Vegeta. He’s just rude and selfish without thought. Like, there’s glimmers of him thinking about other people and the greater good of the world. But it honestly feels like it’s coming from a place of BEING right rather than DOING right. Which- he’s fifteen. People are usually little shits at 15 years old- it’s just a fact of life.
BUT- it’s also been over 30 issues now. We should be seeing SOMETHING new with Shadow. He’s given VERY few concessions to other people and they’ve all been to Sonic. He has zero other connections to people and at this point Sega needs to start coming up with reasons why beyond marketing and “lol edgy”.
He’s a kid, and he’s troubled. I’ll give him that level of understanding. That doesn’t mean I have to like this little shit my baby boy has become. And frankly, until we start getting answers or at least some PROGRESS on his character growth, I will continue to be unhappy about him. I’ll still support IDW as a whole, but I’m gonna be pouty about it.

Yeah!! you're right, also that part of the toxic fandom does not realize that if they continue like this they will achieve the opposite of what they want (that is, Buddie becomes canon) and that Oliver and Ryan feel annoyed with the ship (something that I am sure they are starting to feel or already feel)
So I took some time to ponder over this because I’ve been seeing this general assumption/fear going around not just in the 911 fandom but within other fandoms as well, past and present. And I just became curious as to why we as an audience feel like if we make a wrong step--like being too pushy about something we do/don’t want--that creators will do the opposite to spite us.
In this day and age, it is very easy to access content creators, even ones who exist as part of a larger corporation. I did some research about how fans have generally been able (or unable) to impact how a show or movie has moved forward with any particular story and it seems that those who have (shows like Arrow that changed up storylines/pairings to suit comic book fans or fans of other ships) have been met with backlash and ultimately no satisfaction for anyone. I’ve also read of some shows (example like BBC Sherlock) adding in meta-level “fans” to their show, or writing in “undertones” to please fans, and that backfiring because the show didn’t actually want go forward with it, so when they backtracked (or didn’t make certain plotlines/ships canon) people were upset because of the false hope they were given.
We’ve also seen the rise in fan support saving certain show from cancellation. We watched it happen with One Day at a Time and with Brooklyn Nine-Nine. What was important to realize on that end, was that the shows weren’t “saved” by their original networks, but were instead bought up by other networks who believed the show could fit their brand and wanted to continue it and still felt like they would find those fans shifting to watch wherever the show went. These shows were saved not because of fan support (although that was a big factor) but mostly because the networks that bought them saw potential in continuing the show.
On the flip side, we’ve seen fan petitions to do things such as re-make the entire last season of Game of Thrones, or remake Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Neither of these fan petitions ever even came remotely close to influencing creators. But then we have the negative backlash of things like Sonic the Hedgehog where fans literally bullied the animation team into redesigning (and therefore re-making entirely) their film. But in that case the creators didn’t necessarily change up the story but rather a character design. Still, it showcases that fans DO have some sort of power to influence things that happen higher up. But how much really? In my opinion, way way less than we think we have.
From what I’ve read (and you can google ‘fan impact on tv shows’ if you want to read some older and newer articles), when it comes to the writing of shows, most creators and their writers are not writing to give the audience every little thing they want--but rather, they write to create the story that the writing team wants and the story that they best feel suits the characters. And this might not always line up with what the fans believe best suits the characters. Of course, TV shows WANT fans to enjoy what they make. They want to have fans in the first place. But because of how active people are online, and how easy it is to have your voice and opinion reach someone high up, fan voices are beginning to be drowned out--purposefully.
When you have large-scale protests, such as the huge backlash The 100 and several other shows received for perpetuating the “bury your gays” trope, these criticisms are not petty complaints about ships or contradictory lore, these criticisms are about socio-cultural level problems that NEED to be addressed due to the harmful and deadly ramifications they can have on real world people. These protests are needed so that going forward, other media are AWARE of what ramifications may come from such decisions and can make better choices when telling their stories. Shows that have failed to comply often face heavy backlash--or are quick to get the boot (looking at you The Magicians). For problems like this, creators absolutely should be listening to their fans. For things like shipping, or other minor disagreements that are based heavily on individual fan preference, creators can very easily let that roll off their backs.
My point is that with the ever-closing gap between fans and creators, fans voices have grown louder, yes, but creators ability to tune it all out has grown stronger. TV shows want passionate fans. And those who have been in the field for a while know that comes with having obnoxious, disrespectful, and rude fans as well. At the end of the day, unless a show is writing in storylines or character stereotypes that are disrespectful or harmful to groups of real people, they should not have to bend to every will of every faction of fans. And most won’t. Because you can’t please everybody, so the writers and creators are going to choose to do what works best to them. At the end of the day creators/writers are going to do whatever they want and take the storyline wherever they think is the most interesting (and logical) for their characters. (An aside to say I’m talking about shows that actually know what they’re doing in the writers room--not shows like Riverdale (no offense)).
Shows (like Supernatural for example) are always going to choose to do what they want to do above anything the fans say they want. If they want to make a certain ship happen, they’ll do it. If they don’t, they won’t regardless of how vocal fans (or antis) are. What show writers do and don’t want may shift over the course of time. It happens. (Like for example, in my personal opinion, I don’t believe the writers were at all trying or necessarily wanting to write Buddie as a legitimate thing/possibility in s2, but with s3 I feel that has changed). When writing to please fans, you can risk certain decisions coming off as pandering (like in Star Wars:TROS). And when certain decisions feel inauthentic to the show or underdeveloped/OOC for a character (even things that people claim they really wanted) it can feel disappointing even to the most loyal of fans.
For 911 specifically, we’ve seen that the show can and does focus on character’s love lives. It’s not unreasonable to expect that from them like it might with say shows like The 100 where the plot-heavy sci-fi action has always been the priority for the show’s writers, above whatever romantic side-plots they have with their characters. And we’ve seen that 911 is generally positive when it comes to how they represent queer characters (as for other minority rep, 911LS has some issues on the muslim rep, but I am not qualified to speak on that as someone who is not muslim). The show is not perfect in it’s writing, they’ve made mistakes or done things that not all fans have liked, but from my perspective (and I think a lot of other people’s perspectives too) the show does its best to remain true to its characters and tell a genuinely interesting and engaging story. The show (both the writers, producers and actors) seems to care for their characters and the stories they give them a whole lot.
So, tldr, no. I don’t think the writers would simply choose to not make buddie a thing if they genuinely thought it would work for their characters and the story they want to tell. Even if the shippers are obnoxious and annoying. Even if the actors may occasionally get frustrated with shippers online. If it was right for the show, and right for the characters, I do feel like 911 would go for it. Hell, they might feel like buddie is right for the show/characters but not right right now, and that’s where character development, plot development and relationship development comes in. Ladies, gents and non-binary pals, that’s where patience comes in.
In the meantime, show your enthusiasm! But be respectful, always.

-- X.X ᴄʀᴀɴᴋ ɪᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴇʟᴇᴠᴇɴ
It's a quiet day today outside the City's walls. With a sky clear as the great sea, and the sun beating against the gentle winds of nature, it's a well enough day off that anyone could ask. The sound of revving sparrow harrowing in the distance.
" Y'know, I did say you'd make it out as a Hunter. "
It had been two Guardians that had taken advantage of the day and recent occasion. Of the duo, an Exo seeming incredibly enthralled over celebratory matters -- digits fumbling over different knobs and settings as he sat upon summoned bike. His Ghost, a familiar eye sore as it hovered near the front of the vehicle, scanning for any inconsistencies before complying with the ideals at hand, as if making note to every detail that structured the sparrow thus far in its' anatomy.
" Yeah? " secondary voice speaks, arms crossed upon blossomed chest as Awoken eyes blink at the scene at hand. Dawning that of a wrinkled cloak, recently gifted by the Vanguard, himself, she prides herself in its' notion with a brief chuckle, tilting her head in speech. " Something you guys see that I can't, I guess. Just kinda, going with my gut now. "
" And I get to ride alongside the notorious rep of a Hunter, " a secondary Ghost chimes in -- its' frame recently painted over from pristine whites to a darker, deeper violet.
" Oh, come on, it's not gonna be that bad. Besides, what's so bad about Hunters? Hawthorne and Ikora made the guy sound like a nutcase, but really aside from Bex here, he's the only one whose talked to me like a person, " the Hunter sighed, waving a hand in tone. " Maybe it's an Exo thing? "
The other having been concentrated on something else at the time, sensors heat at the mention of ones' name before turning his neck around toward the other. Golden optics blinking in mild confusion, " --Huh? What? You called? " a sudden spark pinching against the steel beneath cotton gloves, "  --ouch!-- Screws, you said this part was clear! "
" S0rry. "
" Ugh, it's really like you're tryin' to get rid of me some days, " the Exo whined, a dramatic hurt in his voice before snapping back over to the other duo. Shifting upon the seat slightly as he stretches his back some, resituating posture with hands resting in front of his sit. " S'what's an Exo thing? Being courteous? "
" Somethin' like that, " Selene giggles, waving a dismissing hand on the subject before walking over. Icicle-toned eyes examining in further detail the exterior workings of the vehicle, few numbers and gauges highlighted in a red print against steel plating. The handles, both equipped with protruding locks and buttons, none to which she understood how they worked.
Not yet, at least.
Having accidentally committed to driving lessons in her recent return of the City below, Bex being far more excited on the subject of teaching. She couldn't help but feel somewhat mislead, that it would in fact be the witnessing of ones' learning, and not necessarily the teaching routine that provoked the gleeful intent. At least she knew how to shoot a pistol, now.
" So, real easy, right? " Bex comments, scooting back slightly as he gestures towards the monitors in front of him. " This one is your speed, and this one tracks how far you travel from point A to B. Real handy when doing recon," he points, moving his finger elsewhere to a secondary dial, " This? Never really remember what this does. But, never seems too important? Screws hasn't told me anything about it. -- Anyway, this here? " a mashed in button, " Use to be a firin' ma'jig before I busted it up beyond repair. Could never bring myself to bring the ol' girl to the Holidays for a tune up -- "
" He has not paid off his debt for the last run, " his Ghost interjects. Pausing the explanation completely, Warlock's head prodding toward the front of the vehicle.
" Hey -- Screws? Ya done good buddy. Pack it up now. Catch some zz's! " the Exo sneered, waving a wrist towards the front of the sparrow. A hesitant means to react before the curved-shaped shell dissipates in a flash. For good measure, awaiting several seconds after before turning yellow optics back to his Awoken ally, addling a shrug. " And this here, this is your gas, " he extends a hand upon one of the handles, twisting it gently as it purs. " More ya twist, more ya go. Always important to have both hands -- and if you wanna go really fast, use both hands! S'great! "
" Both handles are used to.. accelerate? " her head tilts a moment, perplexed.
" On this model? Sure! "
" Is that even safe? "
" Is what safe? " the Exo blinks.
" That... know what? Never mind. "
" That doesn't sound safe at all, " the remaining Ghost whirls, its' optic narrowed in concern as it looked between the two Guardians. " Are you sure this is the right place to do this? "
" It's fine Data, " Selene assured, giving a nod in his direction.
" Data? Buddy has a name now? " Bex inquires, looking over upon the painted shell as he hops off the sparrow. " Nice to properly meet ya' acquaintance, little light! "
Taking her own turn in the seat, the Awoken slides over in place -- her feet just barely touching the ground from where it hovered as she picks up the conversation. " They're like little memory machines, right? I figured Data would be a easy name for him. " A hand running over the glass of reflective numbers, she picks up her feet and rests them upon the grips at its' side. Getting a feel for comfort before utility, the steady hum comforting to the rumble in her chest.
" She's a little out-dated, but, still does the trick jus' fine, " the Warlock moves over towards the front, giving the build a soft pat. " Had her since... man, time goes by fast. "
" You name your sparrow, too? "
" Name? Well... I mean, yeah ... who wouldn't? She uh... Her names' uh... F.. A.. Asterid. Asterid's her name, reliable girl. "
" Does Screws know about this? " Selene smirks, quirking a brow in playful question as doubt swims effortlessly in the air.
" Screws? 'Course he knows! He and she? Best friends. Hands down, " Bex nodded, lifting his open palms aside in defensive measure. " Except for when shes' feelin' testy. Then they're not best friends. "
"And you mentioned before that uh... if something does go wrong, your Ghost can reforge the sparrow in its' entirety, right? " the Hunter hums, now resting both her hands upon handles, softly gripping and getting a comfortable lean in her posture. Though careful enough to not accidentally trigger anything -- the tensions upon grips still resting at her fingertips.
" Sure can. Part of their little gift - small things like a sparrow or somethin', scans and duplicates it just like us. Makes for a nifty transport when you need some speed out in the blue. Or when y'uhh... y'know, miss a turn going too fast and launch off the cliff side. "
" ...What was that last part? "
" A poorly learned experience -- moving on, " the Exo snapped, rolling his wrist with an index pointed upward to the sky. " So! Ready to rev'er up? Know what true speed n' bliss is?! "
" How bad can it go? " the Hunter chuckles, responding with solid nod before turning her attention back forward. A landing zone of flat land for at least a couple miles, little to no obstacles in the midst for her to get use to the steering. It would be a safe cruise from here to there, simple and easy.
The feeling of power resting beneath her grip, she then cranks one handle forward -- the reaction being... less than expected, the sparrow hardly moving in place but several inches at a time. Confusion muddied her face, a look around before testing both handles at once, this time, only amplifying the speed by a whole 'nother foot worth of travel. Bex and Data standing in place with hopeful expression -- the Exo somewhat cracking in its' exterior as he tried to figure from a distance why the sparrow was moving so... slow.
" Hey, Bex? I think something's wrong, " Selene calls over, both hands still cranking both handles with little to no progression. With a brief jog is Bex able to catch up, over looking all the gears and settings, searching for the issue. It isn't until he scans near her hands that it's found, like a light bulb igniting over ones' head if he could smile.
" Oh, silly! Your pinky is holding on the break, too! " he points, the two far right of the Awoken's fingers having rested upon one of the protruding elements against the handles. " Just take your fingers off that and it'll -- "
                                           --- NYOOOOM ---
It was like a rocket, soaring at the speeds from 5 to 80 miles per hour. The sonic boom of ones' jets, enough to knock the Exo to the ground, flat on his bottom -- optics flickering temporarily in disruption before he shakes himself back to static. Both his sparrow and the Awoken it held captive, now far beyond reach at speeds he hadn't even tampered with personally. A soft hum, as the Ghost approaches the grounded fellow, its' own blue optic blinking in severe concern.
" O-Oh no. Is she going to be all right? "
" She uh... I mean, that's what you're here for, right? " hand raises to the back of his neck in a pinch, before dragging himself upwards to a standing position once more. Shaking out the sand between his exterior parts, arms and legs, before pumping himself up in a sprint to go catch up with his doomed friend. She's gonna be so pissed.
" Seeeeel! We're coming Sel!!! "
" Ah! She's over here! "
" You --whew-- ya' found her? --hhh--, man. Really -- really gotta, --huff-- get this whole, air thing checked out -- "
It had taken under three miles before registering an immediate location, but in the glance of scanning the wood, Data was able to track down his Guardian with relative ease. A small body, crumpled into itself against the bark of a tree, soft hissing becoming more apparent the closer the two approached before peering into a bush and finding the girl in one piece. Several scratches across her clothing and a single light cut on her face -- she's holding her arm in doing so when blue eyes raise to meet her lost companions.
" Oh -- hey. "
" Sel! " the Exo greets happily. " Man, we thought we'd lost ya! How you feelin? "
" I uh... not... great... " she admits, a cynical tone twisted in her words. A pause in between as she thinks for a moment, following the nudging of ones' head in further forward direction near the road. " You're uh... gonna need that maintenance, " it's spoken in favor of the missing vehicle, a cloud of dull smoke channeling a bit more forward past the fallen trunk of a tree. A clear dent in the mass where impact had crashed upon, inevitably flipping she off the sparrow, and the bike itself to... well, it was too loud or bright to tell at the time. Her priorities remaining to clear distance and get off the road. " Don't think Asterid's taking it too well. "
" And I don't think you're taking it too well, " Data mocks, hovering over towards his Light as he scans over her bio-metrics. " You've injured your arm. Should we get you to a medic? "
" Probably? "
" We'll get ya back to the Tower, then, " Bex agrees, looking upon his own shoulder in silent beckon of ones' Ghost, Screws illuminating back in and steering himself near the roads. With minimal effort, its' as if he's done this too many times -- light accumulating in the shape of the defeated sparrow, not a scratch in sight as it's placed gently on the ground, ready for power. " I'll uh... I'll do the driving. "
" Yeah -- yeah, no. I don't wanna... I don't wanna do that again, " Selene shakes her head, causing her world to spin temporarily, eyes going crossed. " M'wait... for my own. "
" I'm sure Holiday can get ya somethin' more your fit, " Bex laughs as he climbs over the bush now, bending a knee and wrapping her uninjured arm around his shoulders. Helping her up and guiding one back to the road, he seats her in front first -- a taken consideration that it'd be difficult to hold on from behind with her injury, before sliding on the narrow backside, himself, stretching his arms as far forward as he can without squishing her against the counsel.
The notion causing the Awoken's face to flush -- both a side of embarrassment for having totaled the others' vehicle and paying the price, and the other, being so close proximity to another person. It was... stressing. Knotting stomach comforted only by the soft purring of the sparrow, she looks over to Data in a dismissive tone before they journey back towards the City. This time at reasonable speeds, the Hunter able to properly sight-see as they rode back from which they came.
" I'm going to safely assume that someone had their hand pulled on both handles, eh? "
" I'm going to safely assume that I don't hear you talking. "
" Haha! Fair, fair. Did you at least have fun? "
" I don't really consider something that is panic educing to be my peak set for entertainment. "
" Everyone has their preferences, " the Exo snorts. " How bout this -- we get you checked out, then we go grab some food. My treat for not having a bachelor in sparrow training. "
" You're telling me you're not even certified? " she teases.
" Not even a little bit! "
" Mm... fine deal. But you're coming to the Tower with me. "
" Spicy ramen here we come! "

ʜᴇᴀᴅᴄᴀɴᴏɴ ᴅᴜᴍᴘ 001. | x
Sonic is actually pretty skilled at drawing; the downside is he rarely has patience for such things, as they require a lot of time, but when he does, he can draw excellently.
He’s not easily startled, unless your name is Amy Rose or you’re a mad scientist with constantly changing mechs. He’s simultaneously prepared and never prepared for those two specifically.
Sonic is a dog person; Muttski, y’know?
Since the guy is buddies with Shahra and Merlina - he without a doubt believes in magic. Always has done, really, especially given the kind of world he’s grown up with. When you’re a super sonic hedgehog who dabbles with the art of chaos, you kinda believe anything can happen in this whacky universe.
Sonic could wish for no better job than saving the world and everyone in it; sure, it can be pressuring and stressful - but everyone’s smile makes it worth it.
Being the free spirit he is, Sonic has slight commitment issues. He’s wary about the prospect of being married because he’s afraid it might tie him down and keep him from running. Plus, he’s still a teenager - he’s got his whole life ahead of him yet.
Sonic’s favourite holiday is Halloween; all sorts of chaos can happen on that night, and this hedgehog 100% approves of it. As long as no one does anything stupid or people get hurt.
This boio’s been in too many fist fights to name.
Sonic’s clothing style varies; he’s for anything trendy and casual, but lives for jackets and hoodies. Majority of his clothing has red and white in it or colour schemes of that nature.
When nothing much is happening, Sonic can tend to daydream; this is usually when it’s quiet, no one’s around and while he’s taking in the sights of the places he visits. Although he dwells in the moment, he’s often thinking about his next adventure and hanging out with his friends.
Sonic has gone less than a week without sleep before, at least in terms of the dashverse; it was something he had little control over but he’s never pulling that stunt again. In other verses, it’s normally a day or two.
If he had a kid, Sonic would name them Cinos. ... He’s joking. He just wanted to see the look on your face.
Sonic is a virtuoso; he has amazing ability on the guitar, and is also very skilled at the violin. That started out because he wanted to make the ‘world’s smallest violin’ joke until he got into it for real and took the lessons seriously.
The pettiest thing Sonic has ever done is hard to pin down because he gets petty over literally anything.
Sonic does consider himself a good person, but he’s not without flaws. Not being able to save everyone weighs down his conscience a lot, and he has a habit of beating himself up for it. If we’re going by dashverse Sonic, not in the slightest; after that whole corruption M!A, he regards himself in a totally different light and can never see himself as positively because of what he did. He acts like he’s over it but he really isn’t, and he’s not sure he ever will be.
This sounds cheesy but the best thing Sonic could ever recieve as a gift is friendship. Just don’t twist it to distorted or evil means. That’s a bad present.
Sonic humors fortune telling and horoscopes, but doesn’t take them too seriously - after all, if he did, Amy and her tarot cards would never leave him alone.
If Sonic could go back and save one person, it would be Tails. Before they’d even met. The kid went through so much with his peers and Sonic only wished he could’ve stopped the bullying before it started and give his future-brother some better self worth.
If Sonic could only eat one food for the rest of his life, it’d be chilidogs. C’mon, guys - you thought that’d be a competition?
He doesn’t let this on, but he’s actually a huge nerd; although he doesn’t do it nearly enough, he LOVES books and can’t get enough of them. The fantasy genre is one of his favourites, as well as those based on old legends.

Interview: Wilder Woods on his debut album, family, forgiveness
By: Dominiq Robinson   AXS Contributor  Aug 1, 2019
Very rarely does an artist find success after emerging on the scene as a member of a prominent collective. However, William Stanley "Bear" Rinehart III, known as Bear Rinehart, has proven that he capable of standing on his own in one of the most fickle and harshest industries known to man. Bear alongside his brother, Bo Rinehart, founded the alt-rock band NEEDTOBREATHE, during Bear's collegiate years eventually adding members Seth Bolt and Josh Lovelace. Since then, NEEDTOBREATHE has released a total of six critically-acclaimed studio albums, been nominated for a Grammy for Best Christian Song/Performance for their song "Multiplied", and won a total of ten Gospel Music Association Dove Awards.
It takes a lot of faith for an individual to walk away from guaranteed prominence in order to rebrand themselves and become a solo artist, left alone to be the only person to judge by music critics and fans alike. Yet, Bear Rinehart has done exactly that taking up the new stage moniker, Wilder Woods, experimenting with different musical elements/genres, and preparing to release his self-titled debut solo album, Wilder Woods, dropping next week on Aug. 9 via Atlantic Records.
Now, with an upcoming album release date, three released singles, and an international tour set to kick off in September (Tickets), the "Supply & Demand" singer is ready to provide the masses with new raw, unfiltered sonic vibrations reminiscent of Motown's glory days.
And we here at AXS was able to carry out an exclusive dialogue with the new-look Rinehart brother to discuss his first-ever solo musical offering, his creative process, family, and most importantly forgiveness.
~
AXS: Alright, this interview is about you and your metamorphosis into Wilder Woods, but let's nip this in the bud... NEEDTOBREATHE tends to get labeled as a Christian rock band. I've read that that isn't particularly the case. Do you want to let the people know that [NEEDTOBREATHE] isn't in that category and speak on the dangers of putting artists in a specific box for the people?
Wilder Woods (WW): It's one of those things we don't love, we would never call ourselves that and never intended to be. But it's also one of those things where we've been doing this so long, you kinda quit caring about what people are calling you. I think we're just thankful now people are coming to the shows and like our music, and honestly, that's kinda where we're at. If I'm loading into a venue or something, and one of the crew guys is like 'I think it's some Christian band,' I definitely still roll my eyes at that.
AXS: It's gotta be kind of annoying having people put that label on you, but at the same time, you guys [NEEDTOBREATHE] are scooping up a lot of GMA Dove Awards. So, you are getting the proper recognition and accolades for your work.
WW: Yeah, man. 'Our band is the biggest band you're friends have ever heard of,' I say that on stage all the time. And it's just like, 'cause people will say that and they'll be like 'so, where are you playing at?' and I'll tell them that we're playing at the arena, you know? And they're still like 'wait, what?' It's one of those things we're proud of, at one point in time there was never any hype around our band yet, we've still made a career out of it so, you know, we're proud of that.
AXS: Wilder Woods is your debut album and first solo project. The creative process has to be totally different than sitting down with a collective, your brother isn't there and your other bandmates aren't contributing. So, what are the differences in your creative process for this particular project?
WW: Honestly, I started it on my own. I had a buddy across the street from me that had this little kind of like garage/apartment thing and I would go there to write and just get away from everybody. I spent several months writing for the record by myself and then I started collaborating after that. And the whole point of the record was for me to collaborate with new people and not just have it be the band obviously but with all kinds of producers and writers and really find some people that scared me. Meaning some people that would push me off my line, teach me things, and honestly, it became that process of experimenting with other producers and ended up landing on a producer that had never made a major label thing, you know?
So, it was just a guy that I felt like we got along great and what he was bringing to the table was so different from what I was bringing to the table. It really felt like in some ways I got other people around me to help me do it. I've always had that so, it was really helpful for me to invite other creatives into the process. Ultimately, a band is a democracy in a lot of ways and it's obviously nice is being your own boss when you're doing a solo record. Decision making takes a fraction of the time so, I think that that part is really fun but it's also incredibly scary, you know? [If you] fail or slip off on something then it's all on you. Whereas if you're in a band you can kind of spread the culpability out. (Laughs.)
AXS: In regards to the producer you were mentioning, are you referring to Gabe Simon? He was the major contributor to the project?
WW: Yeah, he ended up doing most of the project. He became like... what I call him my Quincy Jones. He really became a collaborator in a lot of ways, he wrote some of the songs on the record with me. But also, we just beat everything up. We'd have a song/demo that we'd know would end up on the record and we'd take it and see how weird we can make it and how messed up we can make it. So, I'd say he's someone that I've become really close to and instrumentally involved with the record and I could not have made it without him for sure.
AXS: I noticed your sound is very big when it comes to NEEDTOBREATHE. Your records are super well layered and warm but, it seems like with this new music you strip some of those layers and provide a more simplistic sound. Some of these records are reminiscent of early R&B and have a certain vibe.
WW: Yeah, I really avoided it at first then I thought how far out there can we take it. Then at the end, as the songs started fitting into the record, I felt like it was ok to do a ballad but for it to feel like something I would write. It became somewhat of a story, we were separating the Wilder songs from the Woods songs that way. The Wilder things were some of the lighter/alternative songs while the Woods stuff was a little heavier lyrically. Throughout some of those lyrics, I may even be talking to my kids in those songs.
AXS: About your new moniker... Wilder Woods is both of your sons' names combined.
WW: Yeah. Honestly, I don't have any delusions that when their eighteen they're gonna listen to the record and think it's cool. They're gonna think it's wack and they're not gonna like what I'm wearing on it. I remember my dad made a record in the '70s, he's a trumpet player, and I remember finding it when I was a kid and being like 'what is he wearing?!' and not thinking the music was that great or whatever. But, I want there to be lessons in [the album] for them, name it after them, and I want them to know it's ok to take a risk to do something new in the middle of your life like this. Also, I want them to be aware of the things that matter, the things that are important. There's some stuff on there about guilt and shame and I don't want them to have that. Obviously, they are going to feel it someday but I want them to know that I love them no matter what they do.
AXS: You speak on forgiveness on "Someday Soon" and mainstream music tends to veer towards more secular topics but you've found a good balance sonically while still remaining inspirational.
WW: Yeah, I think that's important, man. I don't care what people are doing but I want them to feel inspired when they listen to it. I want [the music] to take them to a place, you know? The last thing I would want is to influence them to make bad decisions or hate themselves more after listening to my music.
AXS: So far as using your family as motivation for your projects, is that something you're gonna continue to do as a solo artist?
WW: It will be interesting to see where I'm at next time around. Because this [album] is the first one, some artists tend to leave their families out of their work but for me, it was an opportunity to bring them in. My wife, she was in the first video we shot ("Sure Ain't"). [The label] called and said 'we need a model, like a really hot model or whatever...' and I was like 'I want to bring my wife and put her in this video.' To me, that's just more important, more valuable, it's a little more real, you know? I'm certainly not trying to become some kind of pop star who forgets who he is. I feel like bringing family with me. And honestly, my boys are super young, my oldest is four, but I would say since they've been born I've learned from them more than I have anybody else in the world. They teach me something new every day and that's what I wanted to sing about.
AXS: You describe that your trial and tribulations within your personal relationships have helped define who you are and made you a better person. What are your thoughts on the youth movement's views on relationships? Younger people tend to throw in the towel a lot easier these days due to the over-exposure of outside influences.
WW: I think that anytime that you can show a relationship with your wife that is good and healthy, like the relationship between John Legend and Chrissy Tiegen, that's positive to see. Growing up when I was in high school, we didn't have social media. So, I didn't have this perfect view of what everybody is going through, I had more [of an experience] of what actually was happening. And now, there's a lot of comparisons going on which makes people think 'well their lives are going that way' when in reality it's not true.
Secondly, I'm at that age where I'm starting to realize I've been married for a while but, mistakes are where you get to learn about yourself. They're just as good as the good things that happen to you, you know? When something bad starts to happen I think 'Ok, this is probably gonna lead to something better. It might not be right now and I might not know how.' I think it's more about perspective than anything else.
AXS: Totally understandable. It seems like not just artists but many people are struggling within their personal relationships these days.
WW: Yeah, there's a lot of stuff out there. There's a lot of traps. I've been fortunate enough to be shown grace. There's a song on the record called "Mary, You're Wrong" and it's mostly about that. I think it's not about how good I've been but how gracious the people around me have been and I'm thankful for that.
For me, I got married when I was really, really young. I think when I first got married, I probably didn't trust the grace and forgiveness that was always there from my wife. That's a lesson I've learned, she's got more than I think she does, you know? She loves me no matter what. Early on [in our relationship] I could have honestly been more open about things and would have learned a lot faster. I had to learn the hard way. If there's anything I've learned and it's not just with family or business or whatever but like, being open and honest and real, people have a lot more love for you than you think.
AXS: Do you have any expectations for your first solo album? Do you have any specific goals?
WW: I definitely have goals. They're more long-term though. I think this project will still be really new three years from now when I'm making a different record and will have the ability for the live show will be able to build on itself. I think that that will be a really exciting time. But at this time it's so new, I just want to take it slow. I want people to sorta attach themselves to a song and go, but it's gonna be a long build-up, you know? There are artists that I like now that took a couple of years to kinda break. So, if this thing is gonna work it's gonna be because we found new fans and not just NEEDTOBREATHE fans. I think we've made it different enough and weird enough and I'm excited about the live show that I believe in it in that way. This project is setting me up for where I want to be and where I see myself a few years from now.

Doctor Who AU: Part 25
prelude/one/two/three/four/five/six/seven/eight/nine/ten/eleven/twelve/thirteen/fourteen/fifteen/sixteen/seventeen/eighteen/nineteen/twenty/twenty-one/twenty-two/twenty-three/24/ao3
“Try this.”
Bog's hands closed around the mug the Doctor had handed him. The sound of the smooth dish in his hands was vaguely unsettling. The dull sound of wood on ceramic. Every movement was unsettling, the scrape of bark on the smooth floor, the faint grinding of the hard edges of his skin where his joints bent.
The unease sank readily underneath the haze of exhaustion when Bog shoved the thoughts down and tuned back in to whatever the Doctor was going on about.
“I got the recipe from Aunt Aura. She yelled at me for ten minutes even thought I told her you were just hungover.”
“I guess you could call it that.”
“As a general rule I don't get yelled at by people's aunts.”
“I'll try to make sure it doesn't happen again.”
The Doctor rolled her head around to fix him with a look of dull disbelief, “Nothing can stop Aunt Aura. I tried and failed. Drink your miracle-gro and cease to make empty promises.”
Bog groaned and pushed the drink back at her, “No, please, things are already growing enough as it is.”
Soft green tendrils had wound around the cables plugged into Bog and crawled their way into the console. The central column was wrapped in tender new vines and a profusion of soft pink blossoms. Primroses dottled the interior of the pseudo-art gallery like pink constellations in a stark white sky.
“Just joking,” the Doctor took a seat on the floor next to Bog again, “It's just something to help the pain. All natural herbal remedy for the Cheem with a headache.”
Bog was glad the Doctor was next to him. He knew she'd probably stand up again if he tried to hug her, so he just took one hand away from the mug and put it over hers. A line of tension ran up her arm, fingers curling in at the touch of his hand on hers. He could feel the effort as she made very deliberately relaxed her hand and let him take it.
“You're looking quite the festive floral pine cone,” She remarked abruptly, her free hand clenching a fistful of her jacket.
“Don't remind me.”
There were flowers growing from the cracks in his bark-like skin. Wide, flat leaves layered his head with tiny pink blossoms peeking around their dark edges. He could feel the budding plants, itchy and disconcerting. Dawn had taken pictures and said it looked like a crown.
“King Broden Broderick,” the Doctor said, rolling his scrambled name off with a mimicked Scottish accent, “Lord of the primroses. Speaking of, you seem to be the sort of plant that likes shade, like primroses. Also, I suspect, nearly impossible to kill.”
“Fantastic,” Bog sipped the drink. It tasted like tea and spinach, “How long is going to take to fix me? When prince blondie stuck me in here he said he aged me, like, ten years? More?”
“That won't shorten your lifespan, before you ask. Extended it, actually.”
“That's good, I guess, but what about--”
Dawn sat down on Bog's other side, kicking her pink shoes into the air as she did, “Why are you two so buddy buddy all of a sudden? Today had been like two months long for me, but you two have been strictly linear. What gives, sister mine?”
The Doctor grimaced, “Don't call me that. I was just checking his pulse. Great news: he still has one.”
She picked up Bog's hand and shoved it away.
“Have you two been bonding over mutual grouchiness? Has my sister made a friend? This is a huge advancement in your socialization!”
The Doctor looked at Dawn with smudged eyes and an expression of deep weariness, “I don't want to be socialized. I want people to stop being idiots.”
“Your standards are a little too exacting. You could count on one hand the number of people in the galaxy who even stand a chance of meeting them.”
“So, what are we going to do about this?” Bog gestured at the cables and his generally leafy visage, hoping to divert the conversation before Dawn figured out that Bog and the Doctor were . . . well, whatever they were.
“What are we going to do about this?” Sunny said, standing over the still unconscious Roland, “Are there, like, space police we can take him to? Is there a reward on his head and can we collect it in US dollars?”
“Sunny!” Dawn laughed.
“What, I have student loans to pay off!”
“I forgot he was still there,” the Doctor stood up, giving Bog's head an absent-minded pat before she walked away, “After the AI got its virtual neck snapped I sort of discarded the idea of him.”
“Wish I could have seen that,” Bog sighed.
“But what are we going to do with him?” Dawn joined her sister in standing over Roland, both of them staring down at him with the air of people trying to decide if something went in the garbage or recycle bin, “I don't know why he decided to go all supervillain, but he is my brother-in-law.”
“Was,” the Doctor said with great emphasis, “The only thing he is to me now is a problem I need to solve. I'll have to think on it.”
“I suppose we can just take him back home and let them deal with him,” Dawn suggested, “Unless you don't want to risk getting charged with flying a TARDIS without a license.”
“Mm,” the Doctor said vaguely.
“More importantly,” Bog cut in, “am I going to be able to get that blasted necklace back to my mom?”
“Um,” Dawn looked into the opened console, “It's sort of . . . a bit fused.”
“With what?”
“Everything, basically,” Dawn waved her screwdriver over the console, “Looks like it's part of the computer. And engines. The whole TARDIS.”
“Great,” Bog took another swallow Aunt Aura's concoction, hoping it would somehow ease the painful thought of talking to his mother, “Not only do I have to tell her I'm temporarily a tree, but also that I got a family heirloom fused to an alien time machine. Oh, Aunt Aura is going to be livid.”
“Good news is,” Dawn said, continuing her examination of the systems, “I think you've got control of this TARDIS now, through the primrose. You're in charge. Just about all the systems have been wiped and control relegated to your pendant, though there are some little pieces of programming . . . something a tiny bit alive. Those are always stubborn. Give me a second--”
“Leave it,” the Doctor walked around the console toward her sister.
“Just a second—got it!”
A final buzz of the screwdriver was followed by Roland materializing next to the console.
Dawn threw her screwdriver at his head.
It went right through.
The Doctor caught it.
“Oh, hologram,” Dawn ran a hand through her fluffy hair and gave a little laugh before taking her screwdriver back.
“Of course you have holograms,” Sunny shook his head, “Because this month—uh, day—hasn't been sci-fi enough. Can I get a hologram? I could use it to make my boss think I'm working when I'm really out back checking my phone.”
“Most mobile holograms would be too see-through for that. Now,” Dawn put on her glasses and looked at the hologram's fixed smile, “what have you got to say for yourself?”
“If this has been activated you probably saved the day,” the hologram drawled, coming to life and standing at ease with its hands on its hips.
“How can one guy get around so much when he's not even awake?” Bog groaned, “turn it off, I am begging you.”
“Trying,” the Doctor was attacking the console with her own sonic screwdriver, giving pieces of machinery several whacks with her fist for good measure.
“Right now you're popping the champagne, throwing confetti, having yourselves a good old party of self-congratulation,” the hologram flicked its fingers in the air, “While I am probably off and away already or I'd be saying this myself. I can only assume I made my exit with my usual flair.”
He twirled a finger through the curl that hung over his forehead and cast a sideways look and a smile. The effect was not what it could have been, seeing as the hologram apparently couldn't tell where people were standing and was facing a wall.
Everyone looked at Roland on the floor and rolled their eyes at the mention of an escape. The Doctor even paused in her work to grumble something under her breath about unnecessary dramatics.
“Now, this is very important, little sister. She hasn't told you yet. My buttercup hasn't told you everything and it's only right that you should know. As your big brother I feel it's my responsibility to make sure you have all the facts at your disposal.
Hologram Roland put a hand to his heart and looked sincerely at the wall.
“Turn off, turn off,” the Doctor muttered, still working, “Bog! Turn it off! You should have control of this thing!”
“Yeah, I just know how to do that, sure. Why do you keep assuming I have any idea what's going on? Can't you just hit mute?”
“Dearest little sister,” the hologram gave a winning smile and Bog was almost positive that Roland's teeth actually sparkled, “has she told you yet? Has she told you of Gallifrey's last days?”
“Shut up, shut up, shut up!” the Doctor kicked the console so hard she sent herself stumbling backward, screwdriver falling out of her hand and disappearing into the growth of plants around the console's base. She dropped to her knees and began scrabbling among the leaves.
“Has she told you how it burned? How the red-gold skies turned dark with smoke, the great silver spirals of the cathedral enclosed in their glass dome lost their light, like a star extinguished by the dark? The war raged throughout time, throughout space, our people fighting, brave until the last. Until the last flicker of the candle was lost and there was only the emptiness of space where a planet had lived, breathed, pulsed like a heart, a glorious centerpiece in the constellation of Kasterborous. Has she told you that it's gone? It's charred husk locked outside of time so there isn't even a grave to visit. Did she tell you?”
“No,” Dawn's eyes were fixed on the hologram but she shook her head, “I would know if it was gone. Gallifrey can't be gone! I would know! My head would echo with the emptiness if everything was gone. Roland knows that! Why would he say something so sick? Why would he say that? Sister! Look at me! I don't even know what name to call you but look at me!”
“Stop, stop, stop,” the Doctor ripped at the plants in a desperate, uncoordinated way, “She doesn't need to hear it from you. Not from you. Shut up, shut up--”
“Has she told you?” Roland's smile was gone and his eyes hard, his jaw set, “Has she told you, little sister, who robed our burning world in darkness and destroyed everything? All of it gone, daleks and Time Lords alike, assigned to oblivion?”
“Shut up!” the Doctor was on her feet and ripping at the console's innards with her bare hands but unable to pry anything loose.
The Doctor's scream made Bog's heart leap up into his throat, the cry was frightening in its desperation and choked by the beginning of tears. Her eyes were wide, the pupils dilated so wide that her golden eyes were almost black, and her face marked with pain.
“Has your sister told you what she's done?”
The Doctor's face was dead white and she flinched at the hologram's words, hands going still. She leaned heavily on the console, breathing hard, eyes fixed on Dawn with the look of someone beneath a cresting ocean wave about to crash down on top of them.
Bog had know that the sisters' planet was gone, but until he saw the horror in Dawn's eyes he had not fully realized what that meant. What it meant, that the Doctor had ended the war and her entire race. Every member of Dawn's family, every friend, every person she had ever seen on her planet, were gone in the blink of an eye and their blood was on her sister's hands.
Something flipped in Bog's mind. He just wanted the hologram to stop and something responded to that desire. Roland's hologram gave a fizz and disappeared.
But too late to stop the truth from crashing down.
“You did something in my head,” Dawn said slowly, “You took your name right out of my head. And you did something else. Something else isn't sitting right in my head and I want you to tell me that it isn't what I think it is. That this is Roland's sick idea of a joke and his implications are pure invention.”
“What's going on? What happened to your planet?” Sunny touched Dawn's shoulder.
She grabbed his hand and held it tight, “Time Lords know Time Lords. We can hear each other in our heads. I know Gallifrey lives, it’s humming in the back of my mind. Or, at least, I thought it was. Something is there, in my head, but it's not right. It doesn't want me to look at it. Something in my own brain is hiding itself. Somebody did this to me.”
“When she erased the memory of her name?”
“Yes. I thought that was all she did. I hope that was all she did. Tell me I'm wrong. Look at me and tell me!”
The Doctor's head was bowed, her eyes cast down, “I was going to tell you. In time.”
“No,” Dawn's hand tightened on Sunny's.
“But not like this. Never like this.”
“No. No! Tell me the truth! Tell me he was lying!”
“What I did . . . I regret it but it had to be done. I regret that it had to be done and that I had to be the one who did it. I'm sorry, little rising star, I'm so very sorry.”
“No!” Dawn pushed the word out, clenching her fists to keep back her anger, “No. It isn't true. You and I are going to unhook Boggy, make sure everything is right here and then we are going home. We are going home to Gallifrey with Roland and we'll get him help. We'll go to the house in the mountains. Just—just help me get Boggy out of this mess!”
Dawn dropped Sunny's hand and rushed over to the cables trailing from Bog, running her screwdriver up and down them and talking a mile a minute.
“He's fused to the primrose, but we can get him out. You had a plan. Just tell me what we need to do and with both of us working we can get this done in two heartbeats. Well, four heartbeats. And it'll take some time, Bog, to get you back to your usual handsome self, but we've got a time machine and you're welcome to come along. Not that you look so bad right now. You'll be looking sharp once we get these cables off--”
“Dawn,” the Doctor said softly.
“What Roland did we can undo. Just be patient and don't try and blow out any candles since you're exhaling oxygen. You could lose your eyebrows. If you had any.”
“Dawn, please.”
“Just tell me what to do!” Dawn threw down the cable, “I can't see how to fix it! You're the one who suddenly got old and clever, you tell me how to fix it!”
“We can't. He's the new interface. He's completely merged with the primrose pendant and the TARDIS systems. Removing him would destroy everything. Including him.”
“You—you--!” Dawn gasped, “I couldn't see how to get him out but you made me think—I thought you had a plan!”
“Yes. You were supposed to.”
“What do you mean, merged?” Bog pushed himself up to sit straighter, “You're getting me out of this!”
“There is no way out of it,” Dawn said, hands digging into her hair, pacing up and down the room in a swirl of coattails, “Before you merged with the systems. I couldn't see how we could get you free even then, but I thought she had a plan. I trusted her. I trusted her to have a plan!”
“You . . .” Bog struggled to breathe, trying to remember when the Doctor has promised to free him, to unhook him. She never had. After Roland had hook him up to the cables she had never stated Bog could be freed. She had lured him with the slim chance of overriding the interface and surviving to be free again. When that had never even been a possibility.
She had kissed him, or let herself be kissed.
In a day of fantastic, impossible things Bog had actually let him think that he might have a future. Not a future he had ever wanted or expected, but a future worth living. She had let him kiss her. Let him think that the impossible was possible. All while carefully making no actual promises, just the shape of a promise, outlined in the air by words that implied but never stated.
It had all been a trick.
“You played me.”
She raised her eyes to meet his, her face blank but her eyes full of emotions that Bog couldn't read. When she spoke her voice betrayed no quaver of tears, only a terrible tiredness and dull acceptance of inevitable pain:
“I told you I would.”

On “Multi-Tails”
One of the things I wanted to do on this blog was talk about Sonic Boom, so I guess a good place to start would be by writing up a few thoughts/opinions about the most recent episode (”Multi-Tails”). ***Spoilers ahoy***, naturally.
It was a fun silly little romp. I enjoyed it, but I’ve gotta say that I’d kind of hoped for something with a little more substance for a Tails-centric episode. Oh well.
Things I liked:
- Sonic being so quick to stand up for Tails when the town turned on him at the beginning. - Sonic being concerned about Tails and attempting to take care of him when he (quickly) realizes something isn’t quite right with his buddy. - Knuckles having a positive/helpful role instead of getting in the way or making things worse. - Eggman making a dick size joke. - The ending riffing on the moral in a similar way to “I Can Sea Sonic’s Fear From Here” (in that one, paraphrased, “How does it feel to be over your fear” “What? That made my fear ten times worse!”, in this one, “All I needed was my friends!” “Your friends made it worse...”)
Things I was ‘meh’ on:
- The way the gang treated Tails’ introduction of his ‘latest invention’. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve defended their attitudes before because it usually seems to be in good fun, and Tails’ constant “Lookit what I made!” probably does get annoying after a while, but I dunno... it seemed genuinely a little mean-spirited this time. - The inconsistency of the clones and their supposed ‘stupidity’. So, they’re totally distractable, but can sit in a circle and play Duck Duck Goose without a hitch? They run into walls, but can order a meh burger no problem? And asking ‘why’ all the time isn’t a sign of low intellect... smart kids are the ones to question everything. I dunno. A silly thing to be irked by, I guess, and if the goal was to make them really annoying, then mission accomplished I guess? - Tails built a cloning machine. I mean, even by his standards, that’s... pushing it a bit. No one even seems impressed. No montage to show him building it, either. It’s just there. I fully expect to suspend my belief in a silly show like this, but there’s a point where that suspension snaps, especially when no one even acknowledges what a frickin’ big deal it is. (And why is it able to replicate him physically but not his ‘intelligence’? How is he ‘splitting’ himself into five when they’re all the same size as him? If their bodies are all identical to the original, pre-split, surely their brains are too? How does any of this work, Tails? How?! ... Ahem.) - The actual animation/rendering quality in this episode was whack. I’ve seen other comments about this, so I know it’s not just me. My theory is that rendering all of those two-tailed foxes running around caused the reduction in quality - so hopefully it will be back to normal by next ep. - I was hoping for a slightly more satisfying ending where Tails would get to do something with the gang as just himself and hear from them that they like him just as he is (maybe a joke about one of him being more than enough), but eh. It wasn’t a bad ending. Just a tad abrupt.
So yeah, some personal pros and cons. Probably the thing I appreciated most about the ep was how it showcased clearly what I keep saying to people who think that Tails is too arrogant, vain or full of himself in Boom. He’s not. When his inventions and experiments go wrong, he’s mortified and does everything in his power to fix his mistakes. He takes failure very personally and is extremely hard on himself about getting things perfect and not letting his friends down.
I also liked how his ‘solution’ basically exemplified the problem with his original flawed method. “I didn’t think this through... oh! I’d better create more of me using a method that I totally didn’t think through either... what could go wrong?” He’s imperfect, like the rest of the gang, and I really appreciate that about him since all-too-often the genius in the gang is always one step ahead of the game and can do no wrong.
Honestly, it was a great premise, but I was personally kind of underwhelmed with the execution. And now it’ll probably be a while before Tails gets another episode that revolves around him. Oh well. It was still a funny episode and I enjoyed watching it.
Okay, done.
