Flight Nights.
The Tafuna International Airport. It’s a hang out spot, like going to the mall (because we don’t actually have a mall here). See people leaving, see people coming. One teenager leaves for college and the entire family, church, village sees them off. Literally.
And I love it. Absolutely. Here for it.

When I was a child, I used to draw this all the time, repeatedly. I used to call it my “famous painting” I can’t believe I almost forgot about it. So I decided to recreate my favorite thing I drew as a child:
The sunset at the lake on the dock, down the street from my house. The same sunset I’d see everyday from the time I was 6 to now. 💕 haven’t done physical art like this since I was a kid

Being Samoan and leaving your parents house before marriage is something you always wanted. Something you longed for. Something to prove that you can do it and make it out on your own but you always end up missing home and you start regretting from time to time.. don’t go back it’s just you being homesick you can visit whenever you feel that way but don’t take a step back because you miss “home” you’re gonna face challenges in the “real” world but don’t give up.. go spend time with them to make yourself feel better then go back to tackling life.

canto V part 3 spoilers, discussing queequeg's adaptation into the setting and story
a little bit torn because first and foremost, i love queequeg as a character here. she is wonderful. her relationship with ishmael is delightfully romantic. i love the ways their affection was translated even if under different circumstances. queequeg holding onto her sanity by thinking of ishmael and the sunset her hair color reminds her of. so delightfully sentimental and dedicated.
and the manifestation of source!queequeg's sense of nobility and self-sacrifice for the good of those he loves and cares about all else in a world he otherwise hates? for the most part, compelling. her emotions are raw and sympathetic. ishmael responds to them well and proves herself to be sensitive, kind, and just as loving to queequeg as queequeg is to her.
however... while i don't claim to speak for indigenous polynesians, i will say i think it is clumsy at best to translate source!queequeg's tribe, whom he loves and misses, to an organization limbus!queequeg loathes and resents. particularly with her tattoos being inverted into a symbol of oppression that she cuts herself to be rid of, rather than what should be a point of pride. not even to mention her manner of speech, in order to resemble book!queequeg's speech patterns, came from self-inflicted wounds and surgeries that imply brain damage... instead of a simple language barrier.
this is unfortunately exactly what i expected when queequeg was revealed to have been in the middle and the middle was shown as having tattoos. which... the fact that these two tatted up people that share a background with an indigenous Polynesian being a frenchman and a spaniard? quite the move.
the issue with having an "aracial" setting like project moon's is that we get these awkward moments whenever you apply virtually any plotline that bears resemblance to events, people, etc. in real life. as a result, for moby dick and canto V in particular, much of the nuance of the way the book is partially about race has been lost.
queequeg is not the only unfortunate victim of design choice; pip, who in the book is a black kid, has the wrong hair texture in limbus.
so while i love queequeg as a character, in execution she leaves quite a bit to be desired and i think it would be wise for all fans to engage with her depiction at least somewhat critically.

Kimo Hollinger locked in th inside break at Sunset Beach,vHawaii, 1965. "Surfing's history to the 20th century was written by Ben R. Finney, an American ethno-historian and anthropologist specializing in the Pacific. His research on the history of surfing and the Polynesian peoples is one of the most definitive ever attempted. The modern movement, tracing the development of surfing from its three cradles in Hawaii, California and Australia was researched and written by Frank Margan, a well known Australian journalist." it’s herman melville’s birthday today!! why not celebrate by reading my very queer moby dick webcomic? link in bio (so tumblr doesn’t nerf this post)!
also, a small announcement! Moby Dick: or, the Webcomic will be returning on Friday, August 26th!! Thank you all so much for your patience as I get my life together. Chapter 2 is really a fun one and I’m genuinely excited for y’all to see the rest of it.
(ID: A digital drawing of Ishmael and Queequeg from Moby Dick, sitting on a pier looking out over the sea at sunset. They’re viewed from behind, and they have their arms around each other and are leaning against each other. Ishmael is a white man with light skin and fluffy blond hair, wearing a deep blue waistcoat over a light collared shirt. Queequeg is a Polynesian person with brown skin and short curly dark hair in a topknot, and tattoos covering their visible skin. He wears a light pink shirt and dark pants. Above them both in the sky fly albatrosses, and there is handwritten text that reads, “And the great shroud of the sea rolled on as it rolled five thousand years ago.”)

Say what you want Just don’t say that you’re leaving I hope this summer breeze Will last more than a season Will you write to me? In time, we’ll see Maybe spend your whole life with me
We’ve packed our suitcases We’ve shut up all the windows Hold tight Soon you and I flow anywhere the wind blows So make life to me Hold tight to me Stay awake the whole night with me
Can I keep you as a souvenir? Can I take your shirt to dry my tears? Can I meet you here this time next year? Can I keep you as a souvenir? We could take a chance and disappear We could run away, get out of here Can I keep you as a souvenir? Wish you were here
I taste salt in the air In your sweater that I sleep in I dream of us riding bikes At sunset by the ocean Those were giddy days, lazy days Sipping rosé, time to waste
Can I keep you as a souvenir? Can I take your shirt to dry my tears? Can I meet you here this time next year? Can I keep you as a souvenir? We could take a chance and disappear We could run away, get out of here Can I keep you as a souvenir? Wish you were here
And if I leave here, you’re coming with me If you leave here, I’m going with you
Can I keep you as a souvenir? Can I take your shirt to dry my tears? Can I meet you here this time next year? Can I keep you as a souvenir? We could take a chance and disappear We could run away, get out of here Can I keep you as a souvenir? Wish you were here

...so I guess I should probably post that summer-themed Moanida moodboard I made before summer’s actually over huh
Luckily, the songs that inspired this take place at the end of the summer anyways, so I guess it still works XD
Long story short, I finally got around to listening to the latest Avril Lavigne album a few months ago and for whatever reason both Souvenir and In Touch have huge Moanida vibes to me, so...I made a little modern AU about it!!! Fuck it, I haven’t made content for these girls in a while, so it’s long overdue.
Anyways, the basic story here is that Merida’s family, the wealthy heirs to some old, old, old money that supposedly comes from their Scottish monarch ancestors, often use the rather cushy funds to take lavish vacations. The summer after Merida turns 16, her mother sets her sights on the Polynesian isles, hoping for a relaxing three months of beach-lounging and daintily sipping classy drinks. Although Merida rolls her eyes at her mother’s lackluster vacation plans, she hopes that if Elinor is preoccupied enough in her suntanning quest (as fruitless as it is--Merida knows damn well their pale Scottish skin will go straight from pink to lobster-red), she won’t be paying much attention to her wandering daughter.
Then one day, after several hours of making sandcastles and then stomping on them to pass the time, Merida meets Moana Waialiki. Moana is a local, her family having lived on that very island for hundreds of years. Generation after generation, they’ve made a life right where they are, never seeing any reason to leave. Additionally, Moana’s people are wary of the dangers of the outside world--especially her father, who lost his best friend to a faraway accident that he didn’t get word of until months later.
Moana wants more. She isn’t content to stay cooped up on her town’s island, and dreams of one day being some sort of community organizer...or perhaps the captain of a tour boat. Anything that lets her meet lots of different people and gets her off the island. Merida can understand--she longs to be free of her parent’s strict rules and expectations, and wants to see and experience so much more than the small world they’ve built for her.
Before they know it, they’re sneaking off on adventures together. Moana’s parents are too busy with their town to pay much attention to where she is, while Elinor, bless all the powers that be, is also taking a vacation from micromanaging her daughter’s life, evidently.
Fergus, meanwhile, is honestly thrilled--his daughter finding someone with her same fire and stubbornness who she can truly be herself around is truly all he could have wanted. He loves his wife, but he knows how lonely Merida can be when she feels like no one really understands her. And Elinor’s sternness hardly helps matters.
They steal an entire summer together. Licking ice pops while meandering their way along jungle paths. Sipping cherry-pineapple cocktails smuggled to them by Moana’s rebellious cousin Maui. Sharing lavish fruit bowls, legs dangling into the fancy pool Elinor and Fergus blew tremendous funds to include as a resort add-on. Having beach picnics and biking across palm tree-covered cliffs. Feeding ever-growing “cool shell” collections. “Accidentally” straying off hiking trails and roaming uncharted parts of the island they’re definitely not supposed to be in. It’s full of mischief and hijinks and perhaps something just a little more than friendship sparking...and it’s the most magical summer either has ever had.
The end of that summer hits both of them hard. They hate the thought of being parted so much that they make a brief plan to run away together. It falls apart, of course--the island’s small enough that there’s nowhere to really go, and for all Moana’s boating dreams, no one’s ever actually taught her how to sail. So they do the next best thing--Moana gives Merida a sweater to remember her by, and Merida promises to do whatever it takes to convince her family to come back the following year.
Hope to make more content for these gals soon <3 I miss them!!!

My favorite of the French Polynesian islands I visited was Huahine, a sleepy island that seemed to have escaped the grasps of time. When you're here, it feels like you've entered the Garden of Eden. After a few days of sailing, @lemahanahotel, one of the only two hotels on the island (the other was closed), was the perfect place to recharge and indulge in some lovely meals and sunsets. Btw, some say the profile of Mount Tavaiura in Huahine makes one think of a pregnant woman lying down (last slide). #huahine #frenchpolynesia #tahiti #hemispheres #tahititourisme #lemahanahotel #travel (at Huahine, Polynésie Française) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqI5IttJWgP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Time for Gifts! Minerva hummed idly as she presents Isabelle with a necklace alongside a rather stylish bracelet. She also got her some perfumes that smell of fruits, like peaches and strawberries! For Elise, Karma got her some adorable and well-sized PJs that look very cute! She also got her a vast collection of Belgian Chocolates too! Goat!Sonia, wanting to impress Toriel, had made her a card and further more took the charge to make the Christmas feast for them both to enjoy! A gift of more action than not but one she felt properly pampered her beloved. Natsuki got Sayori a collection of specially made cupcakes and chocolate cake. As something more permeant, she got her a plushie from an anime she knew the peach-haired girl liked! Alongside all that, Christmas would be spent together too! Rivet, despite being aware this was not blog for Lailani, was still eager and thus is here with sunset-coloured Muumuu that would allow the girl something relaxing and flowing to rest in. A-and grow in. Justine and Caroline, plump wardens as they were, huffed as they presented Makoto with their gift. It was a mere collection of chocolate. Nothing grand but certainly something surprising from them. Haru would be here to present Ann with a bunch of new clothing, feeding equipment and a Christmas Buffet that would be fed into this fattening model! Leliana wasn't sure what to get the Dwarf so she got her a new large drinking stein and a new set of comfortable boots! Mahiru handed over to Hiyoko a collection of international gummy sweets and a photo album that contained pictures of her and the spoiled Empress over the last year. How sweet~ Sijo got Moeka some new clothing given the shut-in nature to outgrow and wear her clothing until dirty. She also got her a new phone and some collectibles. Fluttershy got Rarity an adorable hat she felt the other would just adore along with some Spa day tickets for them both, since the holiday season was so busy, they needed to relax. In another timeline, Twilight would also get Rarity a collection of new jewellery using a variety of gems to match the girl's variety of fashion!
Tumblr media
"Ahh~! Miss Minerva! This is fantastic! I'll always wear them!" Isabelle is over the moon with her gifts, getting a preview of her perfumes and adorning her chunky self with her boss's gifts while her tail breaks new records in wagging speed! -
Tumblr media
"Oh wow! These are DELICIOUS! And how did you know I needed new nightgowns? Is it because I'm really stretching my old ones~? Ehehe!" Elise couldn't help but stuff her chubby cheeks full of her dragon girlfriend's offerings while she marveled at how comfy these new pajamas were~! -
Tumblr media
"My dear... my sweetest Sonia. Come here and let me hold you for this... I'm sure its all very delicious and this old goat positively adores you for the lengths you've gone to..." Sonia would be embraced by the warm goat momma, her soft fur and abundant fat making them the perfect cuddlebug this season~
-
Tumblr media
"Natsuki these are amazing! AH I'm gonna cuddle the stuffing out of you, I love you so much!" Sayori could hardly contain herself, hugging the plushie and her plush girlfriend both as hard as she could as she imagined how perfect this break would be with her! -
Tumblr media
"Y-You really got something this nice for me...? Ahh... T-Thank you! I can't believe it... uhm... I think its high time I did this... close your eyes." And so the chubby polynesian sweetheart would take Rivet's hands and smooch her on the lips, only to hide her blushing cheeks and retreat back, giggling. "W-We've been dating for a while... you're so sweet, I figured you really deserved it!" -
Tumblr media
"I-I... thank you! I can't say I was... expecting this. Thank you both. Uhm... its funny, I was actually 'just' craving some... so this was perfect!" While her... 'arrangement' with the twins was certainly strange, affection and care could be seen between all of them.
-
Tumblr media
"God Haru... I-I'm gonna be able to fit in those after right?... R-Right?" Despite Ann's visible worry, she wouldn't have Haru's goft any other way. Willingly submitting to the feast presented and all the fun new ways her feeder girlfriend could deliver it...
-
Lady Aeducan was quite pleased with her surface wife's gifts, a girl could never have enough boots 'or' steins. And drinking out of this one would make the ale all the better~ -
Tumblr media
Her shortstack slob would be happy as could be to go over her gluttonous journey while enjoying every little morsel of sugar her photographer girlfriend got her. An empress needed plenty! -
Tumblr media
"... F-For... for me...?" She hardly expected any gifts, let alone so many. Being with Sijo was gift enough... and now she's all teary eyed. Many hugs and quiet admissions of love and loyalty from the ginger tubster to her huge assed lover. -
Tumblr media
"Fluttershy my sweet this is a lovely gift, and I wouldn't dream of a spa day without you! After all, everything is so much better with you by my side, darling~!"
-
Tumblr media
" These jewels dear... they're exemplary! Just like the love you have for me. And the love I hope to reciprocate with every bit of pampering I have for you tonight!" And with that, many a wonderful gift was recieved with love~! Thanks a bunch friend for our ships and this ask
