Say what you want Just don’t say that you’re leaving I hope this summer breeze Will last more than a season Will you write to me? In time, we’ll see Maybe spend your whole life with me
We’ve packed our suitcases We’ve shut up all the windows Hold tight Soon you and I flow anywhere the wind blows So make life to me Hold tight to me Stay awake the whole night with me
Can I keep you as a souvenir? Can I take your shirt to dry my tears? Can I meet you here this time next year? Can I keep you as a souvenir? We could take a chance and disappear We could run away, get out of here Can I keep you as a souvenir? Wish you were here
I taste salt in the air In your sweater that I sleep in I dream of us riding bikes At sunset by the ocean Those were giddy days, lazy days Sipping rosé, time to waste
Can I keep you as a souvenir? Can I take your shirt to dry my tears? Can I meet you here this time next year? Can I keep you as a souvenir? We could take a chance and disappear We could run away, get out of here Can I keep you as a souvenir? Wish you were here
And if I leave here, you’re coming with me If you leave here, I’m going with you
Can I keep you as a souvenir? Can I take your shirt to dry my tears? Can I meet you here this time next year? Can I keep you as a souvenir? We could take a chance and disappear We could run away, get out of here Can I keep you as a souvenir? Wish you were here

...so I guess I should probably post that summer-themed Moanida moodboard I made before summer’s actually over huh
Luckily, the songs that inspired this take place at the end of the summer anyways, so I guess it still works XD
Long story short, I finally got around to listening to the latest Avril Lavigne album a few months ago and for whatever reason both Souvenir and In Touch have huge Moanida vibes to me, so...I made a little modern AU about it!!! Fuck it, I haven’t made content for these girls in a while, so it’s long overdue.
Anyways, the basic story here is that Merida’s family, the wealthy heirs to some old, old, old money that supposedly comes from their Scottish monarch ancestors, often use the rather cushy funds to take lavish vacations. The summer after Merida turns 16, her mother sets her sights on the Polynesian isles, hoping for a relaxing three months of beach-lounging and daintily sipping classy drinks. Although Merida rolls her eyes at her mother’s lackluster vacation plans, she hopes that if Elinor is preoccupied enough in her suntanning quest (as fruitless as it is--Merida knows damn well their pale Scottish skin will go straight from pink to lobster-red), she won’t be paying much attention to her wandering daughter.
Then one day, after several hours of making sandcastles and then stomping on them to pass the time, Merida meets Moana Waialiki. Moana is a local, her family having lived on that very island for hundreds of years. Generation after generation, they’ve made a life right where they are, never seeing any reason to leave. Additionally, Moana’s people are wary of the dangers of the outside world--especially her father, who lost his best friend to a faraway accident that he didn’t get word of until months later.
Moana wants more. She isn’t content to stay cooped up on her town’s island, and dreams of one day being some sort of community organizer...or perhaps the captain of a tour boat. Anything that lets her meet lots of different people and gets her off the island. Merida can understand--she longs to be free of her parent’s strict rules and expectations, and wants to see and experience so much more than the small world they’ve built for her.
Before they know it, they’re sneaking off on adventures together. Moana’s parents are too busy with their town to pay much attention to where she is, while Elinor, bless all the powers that be, is also taking a vacation from micromanaging her daughter’s life, evidently.
Fergus, meanwhile, is honestly thrilled--his daughter finding someone with her same fire and stubbornness who she can truly be herself around is truly all he could have wanted. He loves his wife, but he knows how lonely Merida can be when she feels like no one really understands her. And Elinor’s sternness hardly helps matters.
They steal an entire summer together. Licking ice pops while meandering their way along jungle paths. Sipping cherry-pineapple cocktails smuggled to them by Moana’s rebellious cousin Maui. Sharing lavish fruit bowls, legs dangling into the fancy pool Elinor and Fergus blew tremendous funds to include as a resort add-on. Having beach picnics and biking across palm tree-covered cliffs. Feeding ever-growing “cool shell” collections. “Accidentally” straying off hiking trails and roaming uncharted parts of the island they’re definitely not supposed to be in. It’s full of mischief and hijinks and perhaps something just a little more than friendship sparking...and it’s the most magical summer either has ever had.
The end of that summer hits both of them hard. They hate the thought of being parted so much that they make a brief plan to run away together. It falls apart, of course--the island’s small enough that there’s nowhere to really go, and for all Moana’s boating dreams, no one’s ever actually taught her how to sail. So they do the next best thing--Moana gives Merida a sweater to remember her by, and Merida promises to do whatever it takes to convince her family to come back the following year.
Hope to make more content for these gals soon <3 I miss them!!!

MoanaxMerida for the ship ask~
Who’s the better cook? Moana, but Merida does the baking (mainly to mess with everyone’s heads :DDD)
How do they live (apartment/house/loft)? Mh. Tough one. Probably on Moana’s island because the DunBroch clan still has Merida’s brothers as heirs while Moana is the one and only leader of hers. Not to mention, Merida really wants to go out there and have adventures. With the sea-traveling people of Moana, she most definitely would
Pets or kids? I mean, come on. Between Angus, Poa and Heihei, they already have enough pets. Kids? Yes. One son.
How did their families react to their relationship? After the last attempt at getting involved in her romantic life, Eleanor and Fergus know better than to say anything than “I’m happy for you”, while Harris, Hubert and Hamish think Moana is the coolest person in creation - hello? She can literally manipulate the ocean, do you know what epic pranks that makes? And yes, the ocean plays pranks with the triplets - and Tui and Sina are just fondly exasperated that Moana found someone as free-spirited as her
Who proposed and how? Rapunzel did. Because both Moana and Merida made the mistake to confide in their friend that they respectively planned on proposing and one day, when the two meet up with their friends excitedly, wanting to tell them “You won’t believe what happened last night!”, Rapunzel just bursts “Oh my gosh, you finally proposed! Who did it first?” and… everyone just stares in silence. While Moana and Merida then exchange rings, both flustered, Eugene, Jack and Hiccup just regard a sheepish Rapunzel with utter amusement (and Hiccup makes notes to not tell her about the ring he bought for Jack)
Best addition to the ship to make it an OT3? Rapunzel

Our coming-of-age has come and gone Suddenly the summer, it's clear I never had the courage of my convictions As long as danger is near
And it's just around the corner, darling 'Cause it lives in me No, I could never give you peace
But I'm a fire, and I'll keep your brittle heart warm If your cascade ocean wave blues come All these people think love's for show But I would die for you in secret The devil's in the details, but you got a friend in me Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?
Your integrity makes me seem small You paint dreamscapes on the wall I talk shit with my friends It's like I'm wasting your honor
And you know that I'd swing with you for the fences Sit with you in the trenches Give you my wild, give you a child Give you the silence that only comes when two people understand each other Family that I chose, now that I see your brother as my brother Is it enough?
But there's robbers to the east, clowns to the west I'd give you my sunshine, give you my best But the rain is always gonna come if you're standing with me
But I'm a fire, and I'll keep your brittle heart warm If your cascade ocean wave blues come All these people think love's for show But I would die for you in secret The devil's in the details, but you got a friend in me Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?

WELP, it’s lesbian awareness week apparently, so I had to post something for the girlies <3
So a few months ago I finally listened to Folklore in full (idk why I didn’t before...I think for a while I was kind of leery of “New Taylor”? I was hella wrong though, New Taylor is so valid and I’m happy for her she’s finally making music she feels like is really “her”!!!), and it hit me like a damn freight train how much of a Moanida song Peace is. Like???
“I'm a fire, and I'll keep your brittle heart warm If your cascade ocean wave blues come” BRO THAT IS THEM
Help me I love fire/water ships so much ;_____; And it works on so many levels!!! Moana’s control of and connection to the ocean!!! Her generally calm-under-pressure and down-to-earth temperament, which is one that Merida greatly needs in her life to not to Dumb Shit!!! Merida’s extremely strong and passionate personality AND fiery hair to match!!! The way she gives warmth and excitement to everyone around her when she’s happy!!! Good god it’s perfect!!!
I like to think it’s mostly Merida @ Moana, basically saying trouble inevitably follows where she goes due to her absolute refusal to play by the rules, and if Moana chooses to stick by her side, she’ll inevitably get dragged into predicaments and won’t know a moment’s peace. Together, they’ll always be on the run from something--constraining traditions, the confines of society, the burden of responsibilities and expectations, the latest mountain lion or member of the gentry they managed to piss off. A life with Merida is a life on high alert, one filled with danger and adventure and close calls and narrow getaways. It’s a wild ride--a tale told at breakneck pace that never once slows down.
Merida loves Moana, of course. She’d give her everything and more, if she could. She’d give her the softness and gentleness and quiet reserved only for those dearest to her. Still, she thinks Moana deserves to know what she’s getting into, and that she’s forever giving up a tranquil life. And, as brave (heh) as Merida claims to be, she’ll often as not run--run from her fate, run from a life that tries to suffocate her, run from a kingdom where she was never truly happy. Though she sometimes visits her once-home, unable to shake the urge to check up on her brothers, she spends most of her life on the move.
Merida sometimes feels like nothing, standing beside a girl so devoted to her family and her people. Moana is good-hearted with a strong moral code, stubbornly maintaining her dreams while having a sense of duty and honor that Merida could never dream of. She finds herself often wondering what Moana sees in her. When their voyaging adventures eventually take them away from the ocean and into the mainland, Merida often finds herself having one too many drinks at taverns, rambling to the bartender and anyone else who will listen about the mother who once tried to mold her into something else. She wonders how Moana manages to stay so loyal and devoted to a community that once tried to hold her back, and suppress who she really was to be what they needed. Still, some part of Merida deep down wishes she had been able to do that. Be the queen Elinor dreamed of.
She knows that was never truly an option. When it comes between freedom and duty, there is simply too much of Merida to hold back and force into some confined role. It would be like trying to use a single tree branch to dam a cascade of floodwater.
Little does she know that Moana has no reservations about giving Merida her entire heart. She would follow the fiery Scottish lass anywhere, dive with her headfirst into peril and pleasure alive. Merida is the only one who can bring out Moana’s wholly wild side--the only one who she is wholly, hectically, and beautifully uninhibited around. With Merida, she can be the version of herself that, so far, she’s only shown to Grandma Tala--the Moana she’s too mortified to put on display for her parents and her people. She can be her most embarrassing and clueless and unsure, and Merida will only love her all the more for it. And, of course, when Moana finally meets Merida’s little brothers, she loves them as her own.
Merida Dunbroch is a torrential storm, and wherever she goes she brings lightning and rain and chaos. Moana Waialiki, it turns out, can live with that. Embrace it, even.

I’m actually very pleased how this came out!!! Luckily for me, TSwift aesthetic pics are a dime a dozen here on the interwebs XD I like all the bright colors on this, because that’s just so very Moanida <3 They are the loudest sapphics, both aesthetically and in every other sense XD Let me know if any of the text is too small to read, though, and I’ll try to find alternate pics lol
@takaraphoenix happy lesbian awareness week to THEM <3 <3
@moanida WELP I finally did it!!! I finally made the Peace moodboard!!! I can rest easy now XD

There once was a lass sent out to sea Ordered by the king to stay away from me A princess should not fall in love with a commoner and a thief. Ha! So I’ll sing a siren song In hopes one day she will come home With more than her weight in gold To take me father’s throne
***
So I accidentally ended up thinking up this big complicated AU for this post I saw a while back, AND I haven’t posted Moanida in a hot minute, so...it’s moodboard time!!!
Basically this is in an AU where Motunui is actually a fairly sizeable kingdom instead of a small island village...and Moana really is a princess here XD I imagine maybe the village grew larger and larger because Motunui was taking refugees from the other islands as the Great Darkness was consuming the land. There’s an ever-present sense of dread, and King Tui worries his kingdom’s days are numbered. He tries to proceed Business as Usual, though, not wanting to cause a mass panic among the people. Fortunately, the darkness and disease plaguing the seas has not yet reached Motunui, and food is plentiful. King Tui hopes they’ll be safe for a while yet.
Princess Moana’s whole life has been planned out for her--marry someone of high standing, produce an heir, someday take her father’s throne. She longs more than anything for adventure on the seas, and to save her kingdom from the encroaching darkness. She also finds herself yearning for meaningful connections outside her family, unsatisfied with the distant and formal relationship she has with the palace staff and her subjects. So many seem to other her due to her royal status, and she sometimes feels completely alone--even in a kingdom that reveres her. No one sees her as she is--not Princess Moana, daughter of King Tui, heir to Motunui, but merely Moana of Motunui.
As the darkness spreads, more refugees come in, and the kingdom grows. Fish aren’t as easy to come by as they once were, and resources grow tight as the mouths to feed increase.
Enter Merida.
It’s no surprise that as the kingdom grows, so does the criminal underbelly. When finery and jewelry from the palace begin to go missing, King Tui and Queen Sina wonder if the staff are in cahoots with someone unsavory. Upon searching the servants’ quarters, though, there is no evidence of any robbery or foul play.
When Moana starts seeing flashes of red out of the corner of her eye, and just out of reach around castle corridors, she thinks she’s imagining things. That is, until she walks into a drawing room and sees a scraggly redheaded girl in filthy street clothes attempting to climb out a 3rd-story window. In her scramble to escape, the intruder breaks the outside tree limb she was attempting to climb onto, and Moana hears a number of branches snapping and cursing in some strange, singsong accent. Both intrigued and amused, Moana runs to the floor below to make sure this poor unprepared thief doesn’t fall to her death.
Moana finds her hanging on a lower limb for dear life, tunic even more ripped and mouth spewing profanities that the princess is sure would make her blush--well, if she could understand any of them. Still laughing, she extends a hand to help the thief in through a lower window. The thief swats her arm away the first few attempts, but finally grabs her hand when the branch starts creaking a little too much.
Apparently this girl is so far into the criminal underworld that she has no idea who Moana is. The thief can tell she’s important--not everyone walks around in glimmering red-orange dresses and shiny shell and pearl-studded tiaras. She’s nobility of some kind for sure. But not a princess.
Regardless of her noble status, the thief girl has no interest in groveling, or begging Moana’s forgiveness. She’s quick to pull a weapon on the princess--a lethal-looking bow and arrow whose bad side Moana does not want to be on. The thief girl assures her that she’ll “shoot yeh right in yer pretty face if yeh even think about shoutin’!” Moana can’t hold back her laugh, and assures the thief she has no intention of shouting. Not when this is the most interesting thing that’s happened in months. Maybe even years--the castle has certainly never had thieves this brazen.
Moana takes the thief girl to her room to get her cleaned up; her parents are too busy managing the kingdom to pay much attention to what she’s doing, anyways. She puts her in cleaner servants’ clothes and finds a cloak to conceal her hair before sneaking her out a back door, extending an invitation to come visit sometime. The castle could do without a few pearls, Moana figures--that, and the thrill of abetting a criminal could make her princess life a little less dull.
Besides, meeting someone who has no idea who she is is a gift too precious to waste.
And so Moana takes to “accidentally” leaving many a palace window open, and many a door unlocked. Sure enough, the thief girl comes back--although she claims it’s only because Moana is “a wee soft little lamb who makes thievin’ far too easy!” Nonetheless, she’s quick to tell her story after little resistance.
Merida, Moana finds out her name is. She’s been on the run a long time--how long she won’t say, but from the rugged, toughened state of the girl, Moana imagines it’s plenty long enough for her to harden her edges and teach her how to take care of herself. She claims she doesn’t need anyone--and never has--but from the way she’s more than willing to have heart-to-hearts with a near stranger, Moana doubts that. It must be lonely in the thief world--always watching your back and never being sure someone won’t stab you in it. Moana gathers Merida has deemed her naïve enough to trust.
Moana is hardly naïve, but if that’s what it takes to believe she’s worth opening up to...so be it.
Merida, it turns out, is a runaway from a kingdom far, far away--oceans away, even. She never felt at home there. She always felt like she was being twisted into something she wasn’t--made to fit an image, with no one caring who she actually was. She took off, flitting from place to place. She pickpocketed enough to eat until Wanted posters of her adorned every wall in town--and only then would she vanish without a trace, off to change her name and her backstory for her next grand adventure.
Moana has a feeling that Merida isn’t making up the backstory this time, but she doesn’t say as much.
After a while, Moana admits her own malcontent. The kingdom only continues to grow as her parents do nothing about the encroaching darkness that leaves so many homeless in the first place. She tells of her strange connection with the ocean, and how sometimes the waves themselves would part for her as a child. She talks about how badly she wishes she could help, and how a strange green emblem from her late grandmother Queen Tala might be the key to everything.
Maybe it’s terrible to think, but Moana finds herself wanting to inherit the throne sooner. She really thinks she could do some good, and she’s determined to conquer the darkness and save the kingdom. Merida, she finds, could be a surprisingly big help--she’s tough, she can fight like no one’s business, and she’s lived among the downtrodden and destitute in the slums and knows firsthand the kind of life more and more will be condemned to if something is not done about the darkness. She’d make an excellent bodyguard, and could even help with law-making and battle strategy--she’s politically savvy in a way Moana didn’t expect.
Things shift between them after a while. There are more and more stolen touches during their meetings, more physical affection. Moana finds herself looking at Merida for longer than she means to. Merida brings her gifts and trinkets from the seedier markets royals don’t usually go to--tiny, pretty seashells, wildflowers from hidden crevices, knives that are usually considered “improper” for a young princess to use.
For the first time since Queen Tala--perhaps for the first time ever--Moana feels like someone sees her for who she truly is. Not a princess, not some otherworldly, ethereal authority to be worshipped, but just Moana.
And when Merida inevitably learns the truth of who her new luxuriously-clothed friend is, Moana is surprised to see she barely bats an eye. She shrugs, says “yeh, I figured you were someone important, from the way yeh dress like a fancypants. But yer not some self-righteous snob like the rest of them, so ah like yeh.”, and then moves on like nothing happened.
By the time Moana realizes she’s fallen in love, the palace staff have gathered there’s something suspicious about the princess sneaking out the back door as often as she does. Moana was just starting to be less cautious when King Tui walks in on her and Merida kissing.
The king is furious. No princess should grow feelings for a dirty peasant--and a criminal, at that. Although Merida is spared the noose, she is exiled from the island for good, given a ship and told to never return.
Before the thief is sent away, Moana is allowed one goodbye. Merida vows to come back one day--despite what Tui says--with her ship stuffed with treasure. She’s gotten a fruitful tip from the criminal underworld, and if all goes as planned, they should be able to buy the kingdom for themselves. Then, no one can stop them from being together--and, at last, conquering the creeping shadows.
In her absence, Moana writes Merida songs. Crude, scrawled haphazardly on palm paper, but full of heart. She shoves them into corked glass bottles before sneaking out and dropping them into the sea. Maybe they’ll never reach Merida...but then again, maybe they will.
The days without Merida drag, and Moana has never felt more alone. Nonetheless, she has faith that her love will return with riches, and the two of them will take the throne and save the land, just as they’ve always planned.

Pagan Holiday Shipping Moodboard Project #5--Litha Moanida
****
Take me down into your paradise Don’t be scared ‘cause I’m your body type If it’s something that we wanna try Then you and I We’re cool for the summer
****
Haaaappy Litha!!! Honestly, there was no ship besides Moanida I could use for the summer solstice. Like bonfires are a big thing for summer, and like...is Merida NOT the human embodiment of a bonfire??? Like the hair??? The ire??? The REBELLION??? And Motunui and the South Pacific in general is like...THE place you think of when you think of summer. And they’re both such high-energy, passionate people, they just ABSOLUTELY have the summeriest vibes I’ve ever seen.
I actually highkey love how this came out and I’ve been super excited to post it!!! Especially the mango popsicles, like man...don’t tell me they WOULDN’T eat those! I like to think that when Merida visits Motunui (or hell, maybe she’d just MOVE there), they make their own popsicles out of the local fruit and they taste SUPER good because they’re literally as fresh as you can possibly get!
At first I wasn’t crazy about the blue outline, but...it kinda grew on me??? It’s surprisingly relaxing to look at. Kinda has ocean/seashore vibes.
See y’all in August for lughnasadh!
alSO I’M SO MAD I SPENT SO LONG WRITING ALL THESE JACKUNZEL HEADCANONS AND THEY’RE NOT SHOWING UP IN THE JACKUNZEL TAG OR THE ROTBTD TAG AND I JUST--
FUCKING TUMBLR MAN

For Moanida:
10) Your ship is on a road trip. Where are they going? What song do they belt together, overdramatically, as they travel the open road?
11) What song from a musical best describes your ship?
10) Your ship is on a road trip. Where are they going? What song do they belt together, overdramatically, as they travel the open road?
SO the cliche option, which Merida would definitely scream standing up in Moana's convertible as they're zooming down the highway, and which Moana would also get way too into to yell at Merida for being a huge fucking reckless idiot, is obviously this one:
youtube
Yes obviously I had to use this actual AMV of them XD
BUT I also think this one for whatever reason???
youtube
I think my logic is that in a modern AU I can easily headcanon one of them meeting the other while traveling/studying abroad, and I can see them having to have a long-distance friendship/relationship for a while. But they never want to stop talking, so they're constantly facetiming and skyping!!! And always waiting very, very impatiently for that next video call! Hence "I see her online and I gotta see the girl on the screen" XD Anyways they hear it and they're like "YES OUR SONG PLZ" and they gleefully steal it from the heterosexual men XD I also feel like they have a whole Extra, synchronized dance routine to it, and they've probably rehearsed it much more than is reasonable. Moana also definitely tries to still do the hand movements while driving, and nearly gets them into a wreck a number of times. It's still a better option than letting Merida drive, where she'd purposely ram into some asshole who cut her off before they even get to the freeway
They're probably driving to the beach!!! Or maybe just out for a drive in the mountains or the forest! Either way, they're definitely either going to the ocean (surprise surprise) or someplace wilderness-y. Bonus points if one or both is grounded (although I imagine they're like college-age in this, so it's kind of ridiculous for their parents to ground them anyways, but like...have you MET Tui and Elinor???) and they give 0 fucks and sneak out and go on a joyride anyways.
11) What song from a musical best describes your ship?
...damn, I deadass can't believe you went and made me google "most lesbian broadway songs" XD
Well obviously the first place I went was the Wicked soundtrack, and I thought for SURE I was going to end up picking a Glinda and Elphaba song, BUT...it's actually this one that reminded me most of Them???
youtube
I'm imagining an AU where Moana and Merida have just started dating, but they're keeping it a secret and are too scared to tell their parents they're girlfriends. Merida has no idea what Elinor's going to think (and uhhhh full offense but I am not at all convinced her traditionalist ass wouldn't be at least a little homophobic lmao), and Moana is worried Tui's going to be mad she's not carrying on the family legacy by having kids and such (even in a modern AU, I imagine Moana coming from an important and influential family). Both Moana and Merida are total musical theater nerds (that's part of what they bonded over in the first place!), and eventually they save up enough to go on a "totally platonic best friends' trip" to NYC to see Wicked on Broadway. When As Long As You're Mine comes on, they both just start SOBBING and pressing up as close as they can against each other in their seats like "THAT'S OUR SONGGGG"
Fwiw I see Merida singing the Elphaba parts and Moana singing the Fiyero parts!
Also they definitely cry during For Good, they're just a mess by the end
@takaraphoenix Moanida hours!!!

“Let her come to me.”
Cyan waves ripple aside, and Moana steps onto the wet sand. In the distance, glowing veins of bright red stand out against pitch black and smokes and sparks and cinders fill the sky.
All fire and fury and burning...like the worst of you. And the best.
The creature in the distance shrieks, drops to all fours and starts crawling across the seafloor. Mindless, furious, feral--far out of her reach. But she has to try.
Water coats her like a protective shell, flowing and rippling across her skin in a sort of dancing armor. Her hair rises and falls like ocean waves, encased in a little pocket of sea.
I have crossed the horizon to find you.
She’s come so far, sailed oceans and followed stars and felt so lonely and pained and lost she feels like she might die--but she kept on anyways. She kept on because all she wants in the world is fiery hair and eyes like the morning sky and the loudest presence she’s ever known and if she fucks this up now, she might never have that again.
And Moana would cross another horizon, if she had to. If that’s what it took to get her back.
Searing, clawlike fingers throw up wet sand. Moana keeps on.
I know your name.
“You’re Merida Dunbroch,” she says, voice cracking. “You’re the best archer I’ve ever met. You’re crude and brash and unapologetic and fearless. You’d take on the whole world if it meant you could prove yourself. You love empire biscuits and apple tarts and you’d finish a whole roast chicken yourself if no one stopped you. You snort when you laugh and you eat like you’ll never see food again. You love feeling the wind in your hair, and getting it even more tangled because your mom used to hate brushing it out afterwards. You’ll climb to the top of any rock or cliff you can, no matter how dangerous it is, just so you can take in the view and drink in the wind. You’d do anything in the world for your little brothers, but you’d never, ever tell them that. You carved my name into your bow and told me it was so...so you could always take me with you, wherever you went.”
Moana’s voice breaks.
They have stolen the heart from inside you.
She remembers the smoke coming in and clouding the island, Te Ka lunging across the waves and onto the beach. The villagers screaming, fleeing to the top of the mountain to get out of the beast’s reach. Merida, the outsider, the one who fled from a kingdom far, far away to escape a destiny she didn’t want, the one whose boat had washed up one day and forced her to integrate to an entirely new way of life, bravely standing her ground with her sword brandished. The way she swung and struck and screamed with everything she had, trying to take down a monster twenty times her size to protect a village she had only called home for a little over a year. The way she kept fighting even as Te Ka closed her hands around her and black rock began to grow on her skin.
She kept fighting until the very end, when Te Ka took her away. When Te Ka corrupted her, made her into something just like the vast, wrathful goddess.
When the lava coursed through her, it must have burned her heart away until she was left with nothing, like Te Ka.
But there had to be something still in there. Moana had to believe that.
She couldn’t come all this way to find out she was wrong.
But this does not define you.
The lava beast draws closer. Moana can see the eyes. They’re vast, golden-orange pits, impossible to read.
Impossible to see if the girl she knew was still behind them.
But she had to be. Merida Dunbroch was not one to go down with a fight. Not one to let herself be lost completely. She was the strongest person Moana had ever known.
This is not who you are.
The anger. The rage. The hatred. The pain. Moana knew they all belonged to Merida--all things Te Ka could feed off of to power her little double. Anger at being forced to be someone she wasn’t, rage at being “auctioned off” into a political marriage when she knew she could never love a man. Hatred at a world that didn’t care to understand her, that told her every time she was loud or impassioned or stubborn that it made her shameful and disgusting and worthless. The pain at being trapped and alone in a place where she was going to have to put on a facade for the rest of her life.
But there was more in her. She smiled radiantly, she laughed hard, and she loved fiercely. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for people who showed her kindness and care. She loved amusing the other villagers, loved making her friends happy. She doted on Pua and HeiHei with surprising gentleness.
There was so much more in her than anger and chaos and cruelty and destruction. And that was what Moana needed her to remember.
You know who you are.
The lava creature pauses, snarling mouth hanging open, hair flowing behind in billows of smoke. Moana steps forward, willing her to remember. Needing her to remember. The playful shoves, the evening dance lessons, sipping coconut water as they watched the sun go down. Moana knew all of it still had to be inside of her somewhere.
What had once been Merida wouldn’t be pausing in attacking her if it wasn’t.
Moana steps forward, and the lava creature doesn’t move. Taking a breath, she presses their foreheads together. It burns and sears like anything, but Moana just doesn’t care. The lava creature closes her eyes, still and calm in a way Moana never thought she’d see again.
“Who you truly are,” she whispers.
She reaches up and places a water-cased hand on the hard, rocky chest, and the lava beneath sizzles and steams as it dries and hardens into black rock. A soft rumble fills the air as the rock begins to split, water snaking over it and burrowing into the cracks. Chunks begin to shear off and thump into the sand, and Moana catches sight of pale skin and a torn dress.
She watches in wonder as the ebony shell crumbles away--first her chest, then her arms, and finally her face. Two wide, pale blue eyes stare at her in amazement as smoke disperses and lava slides away and what’s left is a head full of bouncy orange curls.
“Mo?”
Merida says it uncertainly, like she’s in the strange space between wake and sleep where she can’t quite tell what’s real and what’s in her mind. Moana laughs, and she wraps Merida in her arms and crushes the other girl against her--so she’ll know this is real.
“You’re back,” Moana sniffs. Somewhere in her laughs, tears have begun to fall. “You came back to me.”
Merida laughs, and holds her back. They both sink into the sand, clinging to each other like there’s nothing else in the whole universe to cling to.
And maybe there isn’t.
“What are yeh doin’ way out here?” Merida murmurs against her ear, tone surprisingly stern. “The ocean’s a dangerous place, lassie. And Ah know damn well yeh can’t actually sail, no matter what et is yeh tell yerself.”
“I had to come to you,” is all Moana says.
Merida seems to melt even further into her grip. “Yeh...came all this way...for me?” Her voice breaks as she says it. “Why?”
“I love you.”
The words slip out before Moana can stop them.
Merida leans back and studies her inquisitively, and all Moana can think is I’m fucked.
The next second Merida’s hands are on her cheeks and she’s pulling the other girl forward to kiss her ferociously.
Moana is frozen, stupefied, completely unable to move. She never thought she’d be here, living this moment--but bringing Merida back was only the first of the miracles to happen today, apparently.
Moana slowly lifts her arms, draping them over Merida’s shoulders and melting into her.
“Ah love yeh, too, lass.” Merida pauses long enough to breathe it into her ear. “Ah just didn’t know how tae say et. Ah never thought yeh’d look at me that way. Ah was scared yeh might think et was...wrong.”
Moana responds by kissing her again. Before they know it, they’re tipping over, lying entangled on the wet ground. Sand stirs around them, slowly coating their skin and already-dirtied clothes as they press closer and closer into each other, but they realize that they just don’t care.
Moana is filling with warmth--so vast and full and overpowering that she can’t help but wonder if Merida still has some of that lava left in her. Whether she does or not, Moana can only form one thought as she laces her fingers through sandy red curls.
I’m never letting you go again.
***
When Merida next feels lava on her skin, it’s dozens of years later.
She doesn’t know what to make of it, waking up with cracked black rock on her skin again and streams of lava curling away from her scalp in fiery hair. But it doesn’t burn, it doesn’t hurt--it feels all too right. The power, the passion, the vigor of when she was taken over by Te Ka is there--but this time, she can control it.
Merida lived a long life. A happy life. She stayed on Motunui--even when the village began voyaging again, charting new lands, she always came back to their home with Moana. Her Moana. They passed together on a summer evening, lying on the beach with their hands entwined and the tribe safely in the hands of the fine young man they had chosen to be the next chief-to-be.
When Te Ka became Te Fiti, it appeared a vacancy opened--the need for a goddess of volcanoes and lava, now that the goddess of life had returned. Life was a cycle, after all--you couldn’t have green and growth and lushness with burning magma and barren rock and life sizzled out. That’s where Merida guessed she came in.
It baffled her, why some outsider like herself would be chosen for such an honor. She had worked hard at becoming a great warrior, protecting the people she had adopted as her own. But ascending to godhood? She didn’t deserve something like this.
And then she sees her walking over the horizon.
Her body is made entirely of water--curves in shining cyan, dress splashing around her laced with foaming whitecaps, hair whipping behind her in rippling ocean waves. But her hands, her face, her eyes--there’s no mistaking it’s her.
“Moana?” Merida whispers.
They run to each other, ripping across land and pounding through sea to reach one another. When they crash together, steam rises around them in graceful billows--the heat of lava and the cool of ocean, united into a gentle mist.
“Moana? How are we here?”
“The ocean chose me a long time ago, to return the heart of Te Fiti and restore life to the world,” Moana murmurs into her shoulder. “And now it’s chosen me again--for something more important. I’m one with the ocean now, making sure it brings and sustains life for all the generations to come. But you...you deserve to be here with me, contributing to the endless cycle.” She leans back and gives Merida a soft smile. “So I may have put in a good word for you.”
Merida laughs. “Are yeh sure et isn’t cuz yer too clingy tae let me go?”
Moana just smles. “That too. I guess eternity seems a lot more tedious to pass when you’re not there.”
They’re an odd pair. The goddess of the ocean, who gives homes to sea turtles and whales and bright fish, who guides ships between islands, who’s always there for someone to dip their feet in on a hot day...and the goddess of volcanoes, who explodes with burning magma, who rains ash and smoke across the sky, who brings unquestionable death to all those who don’t get away fast enough. But when they touch, when they kiss, when they tangle themselves up in one another, pieces of volcanic rock topple into the sea and grow lush and full with life bursting from every seam. The goddess of the sea and the goddess of lava make more life together than they ever could apart.
Sometimes they must temper one another. An especially vicious volcanic explosion is stopped only by the cool calm of the sea. Fierce stormclouds that could sink ships are pulled apart by clouds of smoke and ash. Magma rises from the ocean floor, calming tsunamis. Rain puts out the worst of the fires from spewing lava. It’s a balance.
But at the end of the day, when the sky clears and new islands come to be, green and lush and full of fruit and palm trees and vines and animals that hum and chirp and buzz, there can be no doubt that the two goddesses can’t be without each other.
There can be no doubt that the goddess of the ocean and the goddess of volcanos are deeply--and eternally--in love.

WELL WELL WELL! A lot of people seemed to really like my Moanida Goddess AU, so I made a moodboard and started writing a drabble and...this happened, I guess? The story came out a lot longer and more angsty than I planned, but oh well--hope y’all like it!
Legit love how these two balance each other out. I feel like the chaotic, reckless “fire energy” of Merida definitely needs kind of a calm, rational “water energy” from someone like Moana. Merida needs someone level-headed to talk her out of doing Dumb Shit without being mean-spirited or talking down to her about it, and Moana needs someone like Merida to drag her out of her comfort zone and help her face off her demons and self-doubt and whatever. Literally a perfect match! God I fucking love Fire x Water pairings so much. Can you tell I’m also a fan of Zutara
Also yeah I’d definitely be on board with Moana x Te Fiti if Fi wasn’t a giant-ass goddess like 20 times Moana’s size. Can you tell? But sue me, that entire scene did in fact have sapphic vibes.
@takaraphoenix Moanida time!!!

Hello! 🥰🌸
from "Questions You Should Be Able To Answer For Any OTP" 1,3,4,5,9 and 10 for moanida!😅💜 But you can answer all of them or only few of them is it's too much ahaha
Ily, take care!!
YEAH BOIIII
Coffee shop AU: Who is the barista, and who frequents the coffee shop?
I'm just imagining Moana being a barista at some hole-in-the-wall authentic Polynesian coffee place by the beach, and of course Merida because she damn well needs her caffeine in the morning or she'll pass out, and Rapunzel insists on starting these fucking Squad Beach Days early. Merida was honestly willing to take the first cup of coffee she could get when the gang first went into town, but uhhhhhh oh GOD that girl behind the counter is cute!!! Merida starts "ending up" in there quite a lot, although initially she can barely string a coherent sentence together in front of that cute barista and can't make eye contact for more than half a second. Extroverted as she can be, Merida dissolves into an absolute mess as soon as a pretty girl is involved XD
Merida also pretends to only like black coffee to make herself seem tough, but in reality she kind of hates it and prefers sugar-laden lattes and sweet teas. After a while, when she and Mo have established kind of a friendship, and Merida can have an conversation with Mo without imploding and making an idiot of herself, Mo notices Mer making a face every time she sips her Plain Black Coffee and kinda smirks and is like “You know, there’s no shame in adding sweeteners. I mean, for god’s sake, my favorite drink here is the blonde vanilla coconut latte, and I’m still pretty tough.” Merida is just like “OH THANK GOD” and finally admits that she’d much rather be ordering an Irish crème, toffee, buttered rum, cinnamon, or caramel latte. If the seasonal flavor selection offers any apple-accented or apple pie-esque lattes, Merida’s all about that shit, too! Probably the most “intense” drink Merida actually enjoys is a pretty spicy cinnamon latte. She ends up ordering this pretty frequently to impress Moana with her spice tolerance, even though she really doesn’t need to.
Also, in case there’s any question about it--yes, Moana absolutely memorizes Merida’s orders! Moana also memorizes what flavor syrups Merida seems to like best (i.e. spicy cinnamon, apple pie, caramel, toffee, butterscotch) and gives them extra shots of them in her drinks. When the manager complains about all of Merida’s favorite flavor syrups running out frequently, Moana is like “Oh nooooo, I have no idea why THAT could be! That’s terrible!”
Rivals to lovers AU: Who takes their rivalry seriously, and who is half in it just to push the other’s buttons?
I love the idea of them having a super-petty sports rivalry in a modern AU! Merida strikes me as being competitive as hell, so I’m betting anything she’d be the one to take it way too seriously and get increasingly annoyed with Moana outdoing her, while Mo kind of gives in and indulges Mer but is also secretly amused and kind of flattered that Mer is like...that into their rivalry. Moana’s just like *Regina George voice* “Why are you so OBSESSED with me???”
Like maybe in a modern-day college AU, Merida has been the star of her college’s archery team basically since freshman year. She wins the championships!!! She gets the trophies!!! She’s very well-known within the tiny niche community that is college archery!!! Then, come junior year, this girl in Merida’s year who Merida’s never even SEEN before shows up out of nowhere and makes the cut for the team. She’s honestly way better than she has any right to be (like judging by how she is with that harpoon gun, Moana’s aim is pretty damn good) and is constantly stealing the spotlight, and Merida is a very angry lass. Like it seems like no matter what she does, Moana can always one-up her, and Merida wants to tear her hair out in frustration. Doesn’t help that every time Moana does ridiculously good on a drill and gets 7 bullseyes in a row or some shit, she’s insufferably smug and cocky about it. Merida very-nearly throws a fit every time Mo outdoes her, and Moana honestly finds the whole thing pretty amusing. She’s sort of flattered that apparently only she can get such dramatic reactions out of Mer, and that just tempts her to push Mer’s buttons all the more.
Then, come the annual Big Archery Tournament Finals! As usual, Merida’s college’s team wins--although this time, it’s through a combination of Merida’s and Moana’s skills rather than just Merida kicking archery ass for like 2 hours straight. On the individual evaluations, Moana scores higher than Merida, but only by a little bit. Merida is, of course, extremely salty, but she’s also grudgingly grateful that Moana being there was able to give their team a definitive edge in the competition.
Afterwards, the team goes out for celebratory drinks. After probably 3 drinks too many, Moana finally works up the courage to try and actually like...have a straight conversation with Merida for once, instead of just communicating with passive-aggressive show-offery. She wanders over, sits next to Mer at the bar, and half-slurredly asks if she can declare a truce just for one night, in honor of their kind-of-teamwork winning the tournament. Merida is also a few drinks in, so she’s just like “sure, fuck it, maybe yer not so bad after all. Now prove to me you’re not a pain in the arse!”
They chat for a while, and it turns out Moana is actually pretty easygoing and fun to talk to when she’s not mega-flexing with her archery skills. After a few more drinks, Moana is like “...can I tell you something?” and Merida’s like “why not?”
And then Moana just goes bright red and looks away and admits that the whole reason she got into archery and boosted up her skills enough to join the team in the first place was because she saw Merida making like 50 bullseyes at the previous year’s tournament, and developed a huge crush on her--to the point where she did all this extra-ass shit just so she could join the archery team and get to know Merida better. Also, every instance of Moana acting smug and cocky after acing a drill or perfectly hitting a target? It was honestly because she was trying to impress and show off to Merida, and also because she’s awkward as hell and has no idea how to actually flirt without being joke-mean and joke-cocky. Merida, a much more emotional drunk than she will ever admit, starts crying and gets super apologetic, because oh god, she was being so mean and rude to this girl who only ever thought she was cool and wanted to impress her from the jump??? How COULD she??? Moana lowkey loses her shit laughing because how mad Merida got at being upstaged was honestly kind of hilarious, and she was actually really flattered that Merida was, again, that obsessed with their rivalry. It made Moana feel weirdly special that only she could get to Merida that much, and she honestly liked the attention, even if it...wasn’t the most positive XD And Merida starts laughing, too, because she’ll admit that in hindsight, this whole thing feels a little ridiculous, and extracurricular college archery really isn’t that big of a deal.
Finally, Merida just rolls her eyes and says “C’mere, yeh bloody show-off yeh” and grabs Moana by the front of her archery uniform and smooches her!!! The entire archery team hoots and hollers because OH SHIT, DAT GAY!!! Merida holds out her other hand and flips the entire team off, which honestly just makes them cheer more.
Enemies to lovers AU: Which one switches sides?
Depends a lot on the conflict, I think! Maybe a war breaks out in an AU where someone other than Moana is chosen to return the Heart of Te Fiti--I’m gonna say Tui, for irony’s sake! Moana and Sina take over as co-chiefs while he’s gone, but he takes significantly longer than Moana did in the quest, so Moana’s tribe is eventually forced to flee Motunui to find new fishing grounds before their island is overtaken by darkness. The people of Motunui sail across the world, trying to find a new place to call home. Unfortunately, every time they find a habitable place, it’s already occupied, and the people who live there are uninterested in sharing their already-scarce food.
Eventually they stumble upon Dunbroch, far enough away from Motunui that the seas aren’t affected by the spreading darkness, and fish are plentiful. Naturally, Moana’s tribe sets up a camp on the shores and starts catching as many fish as they can, hoping they’ve finally found a place where they can have enough to eat again. Unfortunately Fergus and Elinor aren’t too crazy about this, and are like “yo, these oceans and these fish and other game belong to the people of Dunbroch and you gotta leave” and Sina and Moana are like “Pls we don’t have any place to go and we’ve been barely eating for a long-ass time, can’t you spare some food?” and Fergus and Elinor are like “sorry bro, it’s almost winter and we have our own entire kingdom to look after, we don’t need more mouths to feed. You gotta be on your way or shit’s gonna get real.”
So Moana thinks this sounds sketch as fuck because like...there’s an entire forest full of deer, rabbits, and other game, and they have NO food they can spare??? That night, Sina sends Moana to spy on the kingdom, since she can be pretty sneaky when she wants. Moana manages to climb the castle battlements and watch through a window, and she sees a bunch of people enjoying a massive feast in a huge dining hall. Her eyes are particularly drawn to a girl about her age with a head full of bright, fiery curls, wearing a nice dark green dress and gorging herself on pastries adorned with white icing and raspberries.
Moana heads back and tells Sina “actually it looks like these assholes have PLENTY of food to spare, and they just want to keep it all for themselves” and Sina is like “well shit...why don’t we raid their food store, then??? They’ve gotta have one somewhere!” And so the Motunui village storms Castle Dunbroch at dawn, catching them almost completely by surprise.
The first thing Moana does is seek out the redheaded pastry girl, whom she’s developed a particular disdain for. When she rushes her, she’s surprised that the ginger girl whips around and immediately sends an arrow sailing into her shoulder. When Moana gets close, the redheaded girl pulls out a sword. Moana takes out a long, sharpened wooden spear made from a particularly tough oar.
She turns out to be much more competent than Moana expected, especially for someone who was shamelessly shoving sweets into her mouth not 7 hours earlier.
They go toe to toe Raya-and-Namaari style, and the redheaded girl admittedly gives Moana a run for her money. The longer the battle goes on, the more Moana’s rage grows. She taunts the redheaded girl the entire time, calling her a spoiled, selfish brat who’d rather gorge herself with all the sugar in the world than share even one grain of it. Merida, who hasn’t exactly heard good things about these people from her parents, is just like “well, you’re no better, showing up and thinking you can just steal what belongs to Dunbroch and we won’t put up a fight!”
And thus the war begins. Motunui is never quite strong enough to get through the guards and raid the food stores, and Dunbroch is never quite strong enough to fully drive Motunui out of the kingdom. Fergus and Moana are both far too stubborn to surrender (despite the fact that Sina is kind of ready to), and so the battles continue. Casualties start to pile up. Dunbroch seeks help from the other clans, but they refuse--they did not take their leaders’ sons being scorned by the Dunbroch princess lightly.
Over and over, Moana can’t help but be drawn to the redheaded girl. She realizes after a few battles that this girl isn’t just anymore, but the Dunbroch princess--her resemblance to the king and his protectiveness over her can’t be a coincidence. It only makes Moana hate her more--but time and time again, she isn’t able to get the better of the princess. Moana can fight hard, and she can be vicious--but so, she’s discovering, can the Dunbroch girl. The princess is clever and cunning, and underestimating her has almost gotten Moana a blade in the throat one too many times.
Merida would be the one to change sides eventually, I think (wooo! Finally got to the actual question!). Once she finds out her parents didn’t tell her the whole truth about their first meeting with the Motunui village and sorta fudged what happened, Merida is livid that they turned away people who needed help. She said if she had known there were people who were tired and hungry and just needed a place to rest, she would have gladly given up some of her own meals for them! To prove this, she gathers up her dinner--plus some apples and some pastries she was going to have for dessert--and puts it in a basket, taking it to the Motunui camp as a peace offering. Moana ambushes her and very nearly slices the basket in half, if only because Moana was convinced it was filled with venemous snakes. After some bickering, Moana finally snatches the food away and, after testing it to make sure it wasn’t poisoned, brings it to Sina.
Unfortunately, one basket of food isn’t enough to feed the village, and the fighting continues. Merida tries to convince her parents to share their food stores with Motunui, but they still refuse, saying they need those stores for their own people and the Motunui people killed any chance of goodwill they might get when they attacked. Determined not to see people starve, Merida starts stealing from the reserve herself and sneaking the food out to the Motunui camp. Moana is feeling a lot more kindly towards Merida at this point, and feels a little bad about being so quick to judge her initially.
Eventually, Fergus and Elinor notice the food in the stores going missing, and figure some of the Motunui villagers must be running stealth operations to sneak in and get it. Dunbroch launches a full-scale attack on Montunui--while Merida is at their camp sneaking them food, in fact. Fergus makes a beeline for Moana. Word has gotten out by now of the times she managed to spy on the castle, so her sneakiness is well-known--and Fergus is all but certain she’s the thief. He charges at her with his sword, aimed to kill, when his own daughter steps in the way.
He barely manages to stop himself, but he does just in time. Merida admits she was stealing the food the whole time, and she can’t let Fergus hurt Moana. Fergus demands to know why, and Merida tearfully admits “Because I love her!”
Fergus, in a rage, takes out his sword again and charges Merida. Swords clash between father and daughter, and Merida looks like she’s just about to be overpowered. Moana can see the fear and betrayal in her eyes, appalled that her father would actually contemplate hurting her.
Not wanting to see whether he actually would, Moana steps in and helps Merida to fend Fergus off. “Enough!” she screams. “How can you live with yourself? My father risked his life to try to save his daughter and his people--and you’re willing to fight yours because she doesn’t agree with all this senseless violence?! You make me sick! I’m standing with Merida, because...because I love her too. I’ll leave if you want, but I want this to end.”
This finally snaps Fergus out of it, and he and Elinor decide that maybe the fighting has gone on long enough--and maybe it’s not worth it anymore, if it’s pitting them against their own daughter now. They end up trying to work out something with Motunui. Establishing a peace treaty and figuring out how to proceed forward is a long and messy process, but everyone is willing to put in the work--for the sake of Merida and Moana, if for nothing else.
Soulmate AU: Who is eager to meet their soulmate? Who absolutely does not want to meet their soulmate?
Neither of them want to meet their soulmate XD Merida has just been repulsed by the idea of marriage and commitment since she was young, mainly because she can’t not see it as just a means of taking her freedom away and making her be subservient to someone. Besides, given the, um...heteronormative culture of Dunbroch and all, she assumes she’ll get not just stuck with, but cosmically bound to a man and that idea just...doesn’t do anything but fill her with unadulterated disgust XD Like please no, she’s perfectly happy to go where she pleases when she pleases with no one but Angus for company. The last thing she needs is some stuck-up, snot-nosed boy telling her what she can and can’t do.
Moana has similar concerns, although maybe a bit less extreme. She’s mainly worried that when she meets her soulmate and, as per expectation, marries them, she’ll be expected to “mature” into a full adult and fully embrace her responsibilities as chief, leaving behind her childhood dreams of exploring the ocean. Same as Merida, she’s worried the person she’s destined for will tie her down and prevent her from exploring and going on the adventures she craves so badly. She’s also, like Merida, worried she’ll get stuck with some lame, boring dude who she’ll be destined for because...he loves her!!! And will be really nice to her!!! But will not stimulate or interest her in any way whatsoever!!! And Moana is pretty uninterested in romance and dating regardless, so the idea of any kind of romantic partner who she’d hypothetically have to run crazy ideas by before just doing them doesn’t sound too appealing to her. Like, she’s happy where she is and having her friends and family for company, what does she need an SO for??? It just feels like the whole “soulmate” business is just the universe attempting to give her a babysitter, and Moana ain’t about that. She can do things on her own, dammit!!! And what makes the great elder love gods think she wants another person to keep track of on her escapades, anyways?!? It’s enough effort keeping herself safe without worrying about someone else!
Imagine their shocked delight when each finds out their soulmate is a) a girl and b) a girl arguably just as chaotic, adventurous, and rebellious as they are!!! They meet and they’re like “huh...maybe the universe wasn’t being some big dumb fucking idiot binding us together after all. I can work with this!!!”
Pirate AU: Who is the pirate? Who is the member of the royal family who did not sign up for this?
Merida is the pirate! Or at least...the one who becomes a pirate first! XD Maybe to escape her betrothal she steals a ship and flees Dunbroch, and BOOM trouble on the High Seas time!!! Eventually she sails to the south Pacific on her naval escapades, and stumbles on Motunui. When she finds out Moana is a chief’s daughter, she naturally kidnaps her and holds her for ransom--because screw it, she hasn’t successfully pillaged any merchant ships recently and she needs some cash. But instead of being like “Noooo take me home!” Moana is like “Actually this fucks, I’ve always wanted to sail the ocean anyways and my dad wouldn’t let me before, so you’ve accidentally given me an avenue to achieve my dreams!!! Thank you!!!” And Merida realizes that a first mate would actually be a lot more useful in the long run than a handful of hostage money, so she just kind of shrugs like “aight, yer on the crew.”
Merida is a bit salty because Moana takes to the pirate lifestyle excellently--so much so that before long, she’s arguably a better pirate than Merida XD While Merida is a bit cranky about being outdone in the art of piracy, she also can’t help but admire Moana’s natural aptitude for sailing and propensity for mischief on the High Seas!!!
Their ship is called “The Arrow,” and Merida definitely uses her bow during pirate-to-pirate combat! She teaches Moana how to shoot a bow, but discovers Mo is pretty nifty with a harpoon gun as well!
Childhood best friends AU: Which one was super obviously in love with the other the whole time? Who was oblivious until they were older?
Oooooh, this is a fun one!!! Admittedly I don’t usually think about these girls in a Childhood Friends to Lovers AU (very possibly due to...geographical constraints lol) so this’ll be a cool thought experiment!
SO in order to fix my unfortunate geographical constraints, I’m gonna say that this is an AU where the people of Motunui were wayfinders from the jump, and while voyaging (admittedly a LONG way), they stumbled upon Dunbroch. Moana’s parents and Merida’s parents immediately hit it off, and established a political alliance of sorts.
Moana, meanwhile, pulled the classic “little girl on vacation/at an event immediately seeks out other little girl and becomes best friends with her.” Moana and Merida naturally also hit it off immediately, and are both pretty bummed out when Tui and Sina want to leave and continue voyaging and such. However, they make plans to visit as frequently as they can and Merida and Moana are super hyped about this! They both always get extremely excited for said visits, and Little Moana nearly falls off the front of her family’s boat several times because she’s leaning over so far and squinting so hard to try and see Dunbroch.
I love the idea that Moana was the one who was totally smitten from the jump, to the point where it took her years to realize she was aspec because she was like “Of course I can fall in love!!! I’m in love with Merida!!!” She just didn’t realize most people have romantic inclinations toward more than one person over the course of their lives XD
It absolutely does not help that Merida is extremely romance-repulsed when they’re kids--mainly because she associates romance in general with being docile and acting stupid to impress some annoying macho guy, and that thought kinda makes her want to puke. That, and given how, er...heteronormative things are in Dunbroch, it doesn’t reall occur to her that romancing girls is like...an option. So poor Moana has always kind of resigned herself to thinking she has no chance with Merida, and keeps her feelings under pretty tight lock since she doesn’t want to ruin their close friendship and all and she doubts Merida even swings that way.
THEN when they’re in their early teens, Merida is like “hmmm...I wonder what it would be like to kiss Moana?” but then IMMEDIATELY feels weird for thinking that and tells absolutely no one. She’s definitely starting to feel something a little different than just platonic friendship though, and of course she’s also convinced Moana only sees her as a friend and probably doesn’t like girls.
Then one day they’re wrestling around out in the woods, like they have since they were little, and at one point Merida leans down and just impulsively kisses Moana. She’s super flustered and apologetic afterwards, but Moana just stares in shock before being like “holy shit, I never thought you’d actually want me too. Holy shit!!!!” After that, they start secret-dating and everyone around just thinks they’re still “very good friends” XD
When Merida turns 16 and gets the news of her betrothal, she’s devastated. It takes her several days to process her emotions, and several times she tries to protest to her mother, but Elinor steamrolls her and talks over her at every turn. Finally, when Merida can get a word in edgewise, she tearfully bursts out that she can’t go through with this because she loves Moana. Elinor, traditionally-minded woman that she is, is horrified by this.
When Fergus finds out, he GOES OFF at Elinor and sticks up for Merida. He basically says that she’s their daughter and they should want her to be happy, and they should be happy for her that she did find someone she loves, even if it’s a bit...unconventional.
Later, at the betrothal ceremony, Merida picks an archery contest for the suitors with the hopes of cheating the system and winning her own hand. Imagine her surprise when Moana rushes in late with a makeshift bow on her hip, shouting “I am Moana of Motunui, and I’ll be shooting for the princess’s hand as well!”
Luckily, due to Moana’s years and years of informal archery training from Merida herself, the other suitors really don’t stand a chance.
It turns out that Elinor and Fergus set this whole thing up, deciding in the end that their daughter should at least be able to marry who she loves if she had to get looped into a political marriage. And honestly, they weren’t going to say no to a stronger alliance with Motunui at the end of the day. Merida is so pleasantly shocked by the whole thing that she forgets to be mad about the fact that she’s still being pressured into a marriage pretty young XD Luckily, Moana has no intention of trying to hold Merida back or take her freedom away! Their relationship really barely changes after they officially become wives, and they’re still just as in love as they’ve basically always been.
As for the issue of heirs, Elinor and Fergus just make Merida’s brothers the heirs of Dunbroch, and Tui and Sina are fine with Moana and Merida choosing an heir for Motunui who isn’t necessarily their biological child. Neither Moana nor Merida are crazy about the “leaders have to be from the chief/monarch’s bloodline” rule anyways, so they’re more than fine with this!
This is in reference to this post! Still answering these questions for Moanida and Hiccanna, if I haven’t done so already!

Do you maybe have some headcanons or Au or something for Moana x Merida? I really like that ship! 🤗and I like your moodboards with moanida! ^^
Anon I need you to know I am literally crying TEARS OF JOY because I have FINALLY received an Ask on this humble little blog and I am OVERJOYED
Yes, I would love to talk about Moanida!!!
I’ve got a few AUs I kinda play around with for them--might make moodboards of them one of these days! A couple I really like are a Mermaid AU and a Selkie AU, probably with Moana as the mermaid/selkie because of her ocean connection??? But I really like the idea of Selkie!Merida too, since it would go so nicely with selkies in Scottish folklore and all that. Either way it solves the geographical issue because they can just swim to each other!!! Also yes, these gay girls crossing literal oceans for each other is absolutely the hill I’m going to die on. I’m also a fan of a sort of Mythology/Goddess AU where like Moana is an ocean goddess and Merida is a volcano goddess of sorts akin to Te Ka with cool lava hair and scary volcanic rock skin and only Moana’s soothing ocean waters can calm her eruptive (heh, get it?) rage. And this also means FORBIDDEN SAPPHIC LOVE FORBIDDEN SAPPHIC LOVE FORBIDDEN SAPPHIC LOVE
Also MOANIDA HEADCANONS YESSSS
I thought up some just for you <3 Some are more general and some are more specific AU-focused so I tried to sort them by AU but there’s probably gonna be some overlap.
General ~Merida is THE most overprotective girlfriend. Like she knows Moana’s independent and can take care of herself, but she absolutely will not tolerate slander of or threats to her girlfriend of any kind. If Merida were to meet Maui at any period in the timeline where he and Moana weren’t really cool yet and he was still being kind of a dick to Moana, Merida would try to fight a literal demigod. She doesn’t give a single fuck. ~Once Merida hears about the Tamatoa Incident, she wants to fight every crab she sees. She also develops a taste for crabcakes and crab rangoons because she starts eating lots of crabmeat solely out of spite. Moana finds this endlessly amusing. ~Moana definitely has the braincell between them. She’s constantly having to hold Mer back and talk her down from starting shit. Merida would unleash the Rage of a Thousand Suns upon her enemies if given half the chance. ~Merida is very physically active and loves working out--she would work out twice a day if given the chance. She’s just really about those exercise endorphins. Moana makes her fresh tropical fruit bowls and tropical fruit smoothies for after her workouts. Merida adores these and eventually she absolutely refuses to drink any smoothies not made by her girlfriend. ~They’re both lowkey caffeine addicts. Merida usually loathes getting up early (unless it’s to work out or go riding with Angus) and will snap at anyone and everyone until she’s had coffee. Moana knows how to get her hands on these really amazing-tasting, obscure types of Polynesian coffee, so she hooks them up with The Good Stuff. After tasting the coffee Moana gets, Merida honestly never wants any other B-tier type of coffee again. ~They love to go sailing in Moana’s boat. In a modern AU where the boat has a motor, Merida likes to make them go really fast for the adrenaline rush and the feeling of wind in her hair. It kinda freaks Moana out to go that fast, but it’s honestly worth it for the look of absolute elation on Merida’s face, and the way she laughs and cheers the whole time. ~Sometimes they like to go out on more calm, tranquil night sails. Once they’re a ways out, they just lie on the deck and stargaze. Moana points out all the constellations to Merida and rambles about how to navigate with them. Merida just turns and watches her with this super-smitten look the entire time. ~Moana teaches Merida some Maori. She teachers her how to say “I love you,” and, at Merida’s request, how to swear. ~Sometimes Moana calls Merida Maori words Mer doesn’t understand. Merida gets mad because she thinks Moana’s insulting her. It turns out she’s just calling Merida a bunch of super sappy Maori pet names. ~Sometimes Merida and Moana just like to talk shit about people who are pissing them off IN Maori, so they don’t understand. ~Whenever Merida absolutely goes OFF on someone for saying something homophobic or sexist or whatever, Moana just stands back and crosses her arms and smirks, and says “Thaaaat’s my girl!” It absolutely never fails to make Merida blush like a madwoman and start blubbering like an idiot and lose her original point completely. ~When they fight, they are SO stubborn, petty, and dramatic about it that they can stay mad at each other for DAYS. For really bad fights, they usually end up needing a mediator (in a RotBTD+ AU, I imagine this would be Rapunzel, Anna, or Hiccup). ~Angus and Pua are best friends. No, I will not be accepting criticism at this time. They get into lots of hijinks and shenanigans, and sometimes they sneak out together and Pua likes to ride around on Angus’s back. When Pua and Angus go missing, Mer and Mo just kind of sigh like “Oh, they’re out adventuring again, aren’t they?” ~Angus also always protects Pua so he never has to be scared of adventuring again!!! Pua still remembers his and Moana’s disastrous first sailing attempt, and Angus makes sure little Pua never gets into danger like that again. ~Hamish, Harris, and Hubert ship it SO hard! Moana turns out to be really good with kids, and has even been known to assist with the boys’ mischief from time to time. They definitely think Moana’s a good person to keep their sister’s chaos in check while not being TOO much of a boring wet blanket stifling her fun. ~Sina absolutely ADORES Merida and basically adopts her and treats her like a second daughter. After hearing Merida doesn’t have the best relationship with her own mom and feels like her mom doesn’t try to understand her or respect that she’s different from her, Sina gets like...SUPER angry and and starts doting on Merida to an almost annoying extent. She never wants Merida to have to feel forced into being someone she’s not, since she saw that with Moana and how much it absolutely KILLED her to be kept away from the ocean. ~Tui is leery of Merida at first, mainly because she seems like she’s going to be a bad influence on his daughter. However, he eventually comes around to her once he sees how much she loves his daughter, and they bond over both being ridiculously overprotective of Moana. ~Fergus also adores Moana, and basically knew Merida was gay from the jump--them dating is 0% a surprise to him. He’s honestly just glad that his daughter has someone more rational and down-to-earth to prevent her from doing anything TOO stupid. ~Elinor meanwhile, traditionalist that she is, is NOT about this whole lesbian thing and would probably be pretty homophobic...at least at first (steaming hot take, I know, she’s just got tradition so far up her ass I don’t know if she’d EVER be okay with her daughter choosing not only to forego marriage to man COMPLETELY--not just delay it--but marry a woman instead, who she couldn’t produce an heir with. Also sorry but I do not like her and probably will not portray her particularly favorably in my HCs sorry not sorry lmao) Maybe she comes around, maybe she doesn’t. I’ll leave that up to your imagination. Although I am not an Elinor fan so I think you already know my take XD ~Moana is grey-asexual grey-aromantic, so she CAN be sexually and romantically interested in people, it’s just...very rare. Merida is basically the only person she’s ever wanted to legit date. Maybe she likes boys too, but she wouldn’t know--she hasn’t found any she’s into thus far. Merida, meanwhile, has always been a raging lesbian, and has had lots of crushes on girls over the years (in an AU where she has the opportunity to, anyhow--ARE there even any girls her age in Dunbroch??? XD). When her parents would read storybooks to her as a kid, she’d always finding herself getting doe-eyed over the “fair maidens” rather than the fearless, ripped warriors who saved them from danger.  No crush ever hit her quite as hard as Moana did, though. But Merida knows for a damn fact she isn’t into men--90% of the time she can’t stand them and their antics, and the only men she’s ever really felt any kind of affection for are ones in her family or ones who remind her of one or more of her family members. ~Moana makes Merida flower crowns. Merida grumbles endlessly about how “girly” they are, so Moana hunts down some black flowers to make one with so it’ll look a bit more badass and intimidating. Merida absolutely LOVES it and wears it everywhere. ~Merida teaches Moana how to horseback ride and how to shoot a bow and arrow. She’s pretty not great at either at first, but Merida is incredibly patient with her. This shocks everyone around them, because since when is Merida patient with anyone? ~Merida also teaches Moana swordplay, and they LOVE to spar with each other. Agressive flirting during sparring sessions is very commonplace. If anyone attacks either Dunbroch or Motunui, Merida and Moana are a force to be reckoned with. ~Likewise, Moana teaches Merida how to sail and some kinda basic naval combat skills (i.e. how to shoot that harpoon gun or whatever it was she used to fight the kikimora off). ~They don’t have sex that often because neither of them has that high of a sex drive, but when they do, Merida tops if a strap-on is used. ~Moana is the kind of person who just kinda sings songs to herself as she goes about her daily routine and her chores. Merida loves to listen in because she thinks Moana has the prettiest singing voice on earth. That doesn’t stop her from teasing Moana about “singing all the got dam time,” though. ~Literally ALWAYS cuddling and kissing when they’re watching something together or just doing any kinda idle activity at home together. These girls cannot keep their hands off of each other. They hold hands in public pretty much everywhere they go, and Merida yells at anyone who makes a fuss about it.
Modern AU ~They meet while Merida is studying abroad in Tahiti. Maybe because Maui (who’s Moana’s cousin or older brother or something) has a tattoo parlor, and of COURSE Merida goes in to get some edgy bow and arrow tattoo to piss her mom off. Or maybe Merida is just snorkeling in one of the coves on one of her days off, and she runs into Moana and they just Vibe. ~I also like the idea of them meeting at a bar/nightclub type place in Papeete--like maybe Maui owns the nightclub because he just likes to party like that, and he lets his little sis Moana poke around in there because he’s lowkey a terrible influence XD And maybe one night Moana’s bartending to make a little extra cash and Merida comes in and gets really drunk on like a huge Sex on the Beach or something and starts really clumsily hitting on Moana and Moana gets SUCH a kick out of it. Merida can’t remember much of the flirting the next day, but she and Moana still become fast friends. ~Merida is constantly ditching class to sneak off and go see Moana. Her grades are plummeting. ~When the semester abroad is over, they promise to keep in touch over the internet--although Moana also wants to write letters because she loves the idea of having a pen pal. Merida teases her mercilessly for being so “old-fashioned” but also doesn’t have the heart to say no. ~They end up confessing they like each other over internet chat. Merida damn well knows she’s gay and has for a while now, but she’s terrified of telling Moana she’s into her because she’s really scared Moana’s straight. So when Moana is the one who ends up confessing to Merida, Merida has literally never been happier in her entire life. ~Once Merida graduates, they decide to just say “fuck it” and move to some big seaside city together (for some reason I really like the idea of them living in Los Angeles???). Merida needs to get away from her overbearing mom and Moana just really wants to see more of the world besides the South Pacific, so away they go! ~BROADWAY MUSICAL NERDS BROADWAY MUSICAL NERDS BROADWAY MUSICAL NERDS! They both fucking LOVE musicals, especially those with sapphic undertones (Wicked, anyone?), and will loudly and obnoxiously sing along to the soundtracks, much to the chagrin of all their neighbors. They’re also pretty big theater fans in general--especially Merida, always rather the dramatic type. ~At some point they save up and go to see Wicked on Broadway together. The trip ends up being one of their all-time favorites, and their fridge is covered in goofy, dumb selfies of them in New York. ~Moana goes to every SINGLE one of Merida’s archery tournaments, and every single game of any other sport she plays. Literally no one cheers more boisterously or enthusiastically than Moana does. Whenever Merida hits a bullseye or scores a goal, Moana grins and nudges the people next to her (even if they’re complete fucking strangers) and goes “That’s my girlfriend!!!” ~Merida is a goddamn punk, and is always walking around in spiked jackets, combat boots, and basically any other clothing that says “don’t fuck with me.” She tried to start a punk rock band once, but it ended up falling through because no one would sponsor Merida’s angry screamo songs about smashing the patriarchy. Moana still went to all of their tiny-ass, tacky concerts though, for the few months they were “touring” the city. ~Merida taught herself how to play electric guitar because she thinks it’s Edgy and Cool. Moana really likes to dance, and knows a fair number of traditional Polynesian dances and has even taught a class or two. Merida learns how to play some traditional Polynesian music on the electric guitar so she can play while Moana dances. The combination of hard rock-esque shredding and a very mellow island dance looks extremely bizarre to anyone watching, but the girls absolutely do not care.
@takaraphoenix I said I’d tag you in Moanida content I made and I am a woman of my word!!! Enjoy!!!

Hello dear! 🌸
cute ship asks for moanida: 🥂 🏹 and 🧼
If u still want to do that! 🤗
But of course!!!
What would happen if they got drunk together: Shenanigans XD Merida is kind of a wild and belligerent drunk--so, like, her regular personality, but x10. She definitely tries to fight anyone who gives Moana a hard time, or even just mildly makes fun of Mo. The difference between Drunk Merida and Sober Merida is that Sober Merida will usually just scream threats, but only sometimes needs to be physically held back. Drunk Merida will, without fail, fully attempt to start barfights if she perceives her girlfriend as being threatened in any way. She basically ALWAYS has to be held back. She also gets even more screamy than normal, if that's even possible. Also about 10x more reckless and utterly shameless, and WILL dance on tables and sing Scottish shanties off-key. As for Moana, she's an Emotional Drunk all the way. It's not at all uncommon for her to go on a teary ramble about how much Merida means to her, or start bawling in the middle of a movie, tv show episode, or documentary (she rarely cries at tv sober). Basically however she was lowkey feeling before she started drinking is exaggerated like 10x after she gets started. As far as drunken activities go, usually the girls either a) go commit some dumb crimes that Drunk Merida inevitably only talked Drunk Moana into because she was also inebriated or b) watch Broadway bootlegs and sing along off-key to every. Single. Song. (Although Moana sings notably better than Merida does). There is no in between. Also these two are SUPER affectionate drunks, and are crawling all over each other even more than usual--we're talking basically nonstop cuddling, hand-holding, and putting their arms around each other. And, of course, SO much drunk kissing. I'd bet anything their first kiss was while drunk because neither had the balls to do it sober XD
How they would fight together in a battle: Oooooh, this is a good one!!! I think they both prefer range combat, if given the choice. They both seem to favor range weapons--Merida with her arrows, and Moana with her fishing harpoons. Merida especially would be really good at fighting sniper-style, and could probably take out a lot of enemies with her arrows before they even got close. Merida is a little better at melee combat, since she's got pretty decent sword skills, so she could fend off enemies at closer range if need be while Moana continues to shoot harpoons. Moana would probably try to use an oar in hand-to-hand combat...but this would worry Merida endlessly (because just slamming someone wearing full body armor with a wooden oar is only going to get you so far), so she'd insist on getting Moana a sword (maybe even just carving her a wooden one, if "real" swords aren't available) and teaching her how to use it. After that, they'd swordfight back-to-back pretty amazingly! I mean hey, skills with smacking people with an oar probably translate pretty well into skills smacking people with a sword XD IF they ever had enemies attacking them on the waterfront, the ocean could probably help Moana out!!! Maybe like...she would tell the ocean to turn a ship of bay guys over and Merida would shoot arrows at them as they fell out? I doubt Moana could get the ocean to straight-up drown anyone unless things got really dire, but that IS a last-ditch resort, if the fight's going like...REALLY bad for Mo's side. In any case, Moana and Merida would be a pretty badass team!
Their feelings on showering together: Considering how salty, dirty, and grimey I'm sure they get on both their woodland AND seafaring adventures together, I'm sure they'd be all for it! Moana I imagine has a bit of a maternal streak, and fusses over getting Merida completely clean and scrubbing down basically everything she reasonably can XD Merida, naturally, bitches and moans about this, because a full scrub-down is a lot of work and takes forever, and she'd rather be rugged and filthy anyhow. It's not nearly as bad when Moana does it for her, though. Moana buys shower gels in Merida's favorite scents (which I imagine are like...apple, pine, cherry, sandalwood...anything forestey, really) to make the whole experience just a little less tedious and a little more fun for Mer. Merida probably starts doing the same thing for Moana to return the favor (Moana's faves would be coconut, citrus, and hibiscus, I think)--she washes Moana off, too, but hygiene in general isn't really her strong suit, so she does a much sloppier job than Mo does. Mo still appreciates the effort, though. Merida is also lowkey a horny little lass, and is constantly trying to, uh...mess around in the shower while poor Moana just wants to clean them off and be done with it XD They've definitely tried shower sex and Merida thought it was really hot while Moana thinks shower stalls are too cramped for a good bang. Occasionally she'll still indulge Merida, though XD
Here is the link to the original post!!! I'm still doing any of these for Jackunzel, Hiccanna, or Moanida!
@takaraphoenix time for more Moanida!!!

So Sofia by Clairo has been popping up a lot on the radio and I’ve been in a very sapphic mood lately, I’m sorry
A soft wlw Merida x Moana aesthetic for y’all! Harold, they ARE in fact lesbians.
And like oh man, can I just say how RIDICULOUSLY LUCKY it was that I searched up “lesbian aesthetic” and happened upon a pic of two girls kissing who look NEARLY IDENTICAL to Mo and Mer, like...the Fates have smiled upon my rarepair for once XD
Man I really love that pic with the hibiscus and plumeria flowers on the sand, been looking for a good place to stick it into one of my Moanida aesthetics for a while now and finally found one! :D
Still love this ship so much...man, I’m really gonna have to write fic for them myself if I wanna read any more, huh? Lmao
@takaraphoenix is it cool if I start tagging you in my Moanida posts? I gotta spread the love for our rarepair!

I'm thinking about Moarida headcanon...
Just imagine Moana teaches Merida how to dance
Meirda being in awe, looking at Moana's movements
and Moana being proud of Mer because she is trying even tho her dance is super clumsy (Yes, she thinks that Mer is cute)
HEY MY G I SEE YOU LEAVING HEARTS ON ALL MY POSTS AND I NEED YOU TO KNOW I APPRECIATE YOU
Girl I L O V E this and also it’s entirely correct
Lowkey reminds me of that headcanon I came up with in the Merida-and-Moana-get-quarantined-together AU I made (the one here) where Moana drunkenly teaches Mer how to dance XD
Merida would literally be so SMITTEN watching Merida dance, like she’d just be fully entranced and unable to look away...which is pretty damn notable, considering how scatterbrained she tends to be and there’s very few things that can hold her attention for any significant length of time (if being bored out of her mind by her mom’s "princess” lessons and getting restless and bored during her mom’s welcome speech to the suitors was anything to go off of XD). But Moana dancing??? She could watch that shit ALL GODDAMN DAY. She’s also pretty damn turned on by all that hip-shaking, let’s be real here XD
And Merida gets SO flustered and self-conscious when Moana wants her to try, because she’s like oh GOD I’m gonna suck at this??? And wanting to impress Moana just makes it even WORSE, because she’s about 10x more aware of her own awkwardness and every little movement she gets wrong. Poise and grace have never been Merida’s forte, and she KNOWS that--and honestly, she’s always taken pride in her unconventional, “unprincesslike” masculine and boorish demeanor that pisses her mom off so much. But now, for the first time in her life, she feels self-conscious and even embarrassed by her lack of grace and coordination, and how much of an idiot she must look like to this stunning girl who can dance like she was born for it. Like Moana moves like fluid and flows back and forth more easily than the tides and Mer’s just a clumsy, disorganized mess who can’t stop tripping over her own dress and ramming her feet so hard against the ground when she moves that she keeps spraying sand all the way up into her mouth. And good god, why would Moana ever want to be with someone like that??? Is there any part of this ridiculous routine that Mo would find attractive??? Merida doubts it--and she hates how much that crushes her. She hates how much it makes her heart sink faster than a soggy empire biscuit.
If only Merida knew that she has nothing to worry about. Moana sees this girl, usually so fiery, brash, and confident, turn into a stuttery, awkward wreck trying to impress her--and honestly, it couldn’t be more adorable. Or flattering. Moana isn’t sure she’s ever seen someone try so painfully hard to gain her approval to the point they make an utter fool of themself--never mind someone with as much of a brazen, I-don’t-give-a-fuck-what-anyone-thinks-of-me attitude as Merida. Seeing this girl reduced to a clumsy, rambling mess to try and impress her honestly makes Moana’s hear soar--and she can’t help but grab onto that tiny shred of hope that maybe, somehow, if she isn’t misreading every sign and trying beyond all reason to calm her own pounding heart...Merida might love her back.
And oh, the electricity that Merida feels whenever Mo touches her waist, slides her hands over Merida’s hips to reposition her, laces their fingers ever-so-slightly (did she imagine that was intentional?) as she adjusts Merida’s hands, whispers words of encouragement just centimeters from her ear. “You’re doing great, Mer!” she always says. Merida knows she isn’t, but she likes it just the same.
Oh if only Moana knew how much Merida wanted to entwine them completely, grab both her hands and dance, together, across that beach as the sun set and the waves rolled in and out behind them. If only she knew how much Merida wanted to reach up a pale hand and run it through Moana’s dark hair, feeling the curls ripple between her fingers as she leaned in and pressed their mouths together.
But Merida knows she’s being stupid--that it’s fruitless to mull over a fantasy. Still, feeling Moana’s breath softly against her shoulder, feeling the other girl this close...Merida can’t help but lose herself in it from time to time.
(@takaraphoenix I must summon you--it’s Real Moanida Hours!)

Awww, I'm glad that I made u happy~! (but I hope u were not only tearing up but also smiling! haha)
And oh, you are too good to me. So many headcanons! Im--- I love u so much!
Oayk, so they are wonderful and in character!
My favs are- oh I don't know, they are all so good! But I really like overprotective Merida (and her being ready to beat everyone who mess with her girlfriend!) and the ones about their animals' being friends and about making flower crowns. Oh, and all headcanons in "modern AU" ^^ OH ALSO AU WITH THEM BEING MYTHOLOGY/GODDESS. YES, BIG YES FOR THAT IDEA!
I could totally see that and it would be SO AWESOME
so, thank u for making those headcanons for me because it's really sweet of you, and they are so good and u made it so many... Thank you 🥺💕
I was tearing up in a good way!!! You dun made me so happy Anon!
Thank you so much, I’m so glad you like the Moanida headcanons!!! I had so much fun with them, this pairing has SO much unexplored potential, I swear
I guess I’ll just have to be the one who does the exploring XD
Merida would be THE most overprotective girlfriend, she’s so ready to beat the ass of anyone who comes at Mo in any way XD Like someone makes a passive-aggressive or gross comment to Moana and the next moment they’ve got a fist in their teeth and a screaming redhead going “WHAT DID YEH SAY TO MAH GIRLFRIEND YEH WEE BRAINLESS BASTARD??? AH’LL POUND YER DAFT FACE IN”
I need more Pua and Angus interaction in fanon!!! I need more Pua in general in fanon!!! PUA WAS BARELY IN THE ACTUAL MOVIE FFS I NEED MORE OF HIM
Listen if I can’t have Moana making Merida personalized flower crowns then what even is the point of anything???
I highkey love the idea of Lava Goddess!Merida x Ocean Goddess!Moana too!!! Honestly I’m really feeling it...methinks a moodboard may be coming soon!!!
You’re very welcome for all the headcanons, I had a great time making them <3
