Not sure if you've already answered this, but do you have any like, story behind Volos eye thing? Yunno, where he lifts up his hair and giratinas appendage things are coming out. I've only seen it for the volotober and the fandub animatic but I'm OBSESSED with it LMAO...

Hahaha, funny thing is, nope, not at all.

I only did the eye thing cos I had an arceus symbol in the Fandub at first and didnt like it, so I exchanged it with some giratina tendrils. Then I reused it for Volotober cos I was too lazy to draw the whole of Giratina XDD

I have, however, seen how many ppl actually rly vibe with this, so I did think about it a bit. I came to the conclusion that Volo's eye serves as kind of a gateway for Giratina into the real world, at least to observe. Because Id assume the only way Giratina can enter the real world is to rip space-time open and come through, which they did once to get Arceus out but that didn't work. Now that they're searching for another way, Volo offered his left eye to Giratina, so it has a sure way to glimpse into the real world in Volo's time. Cos we know that the DW doesnt have working time n all, so I think Giratina cant rly just, poke into certain time periods without sth the becons it.

So Volo is its sure fire way to keep up to date, maybe even nudge him in the right direction / make him pay attention to the right people. I don't think Giratina would be able to enter the irl world through him tho.

My brother and I were born prematurely, so I have developmental issues, like a horrible math disability, ADHD, vision impairment, and processing issues. Growing up, I didn't really connect with other girls my age, because I had different interests, and in turn was bullied when I was a child and in high school, so that severely damaged my self esteem into adulthood.

I thought everything would be fine, and that I could make friends, and yes, I do have friends online, and I've endured various harassment over shipping throughout the years. I do try to keep to myself and do as I wish, but I ended up getting bullied/witch hunted just last year ( 2023 ) on an RP site where I had roleplayed as my version of Volo from Pokemon Legends Arceus.

This annoying clique decided that I was a threat and a pedophile when all I did was roleplay canon Volokari ( Volo x Akari) with another person. And they said they had evidence against me, but in character RPs don't count as concrete evidence. And then, they started telling people new to the verse to block/report my profile, and to stay away from me.

All I ever wanted was to RP in a place without judgement, but I couldn't even do that. And the worst part? There was a user who ran in their circles and I never knew. Before all of this drama occurred, we RPed together and were pretty chill, but apparently she lied, and said she was never my friend. That betrayal hurt.

So yeah, after going through what I did, I’m obviously gonna have trust issues.

As for my personality, I'm soft and quiet and sometimes I'm very weird bc of my ADHD, but I usually am very cheerful and a sweet person who just wants attention, but at the same time, is scared of opening up due to past negative experiences. see my ultimate fave changes like, every other month but since like, i wanna say january as that's when legends arceus released, i've gained a newfound appreciation for the zorua line, which i already really liked beforehand but they've climbed up the ranks tremendously since nintendo blessed me with their hisuian variants.... but i like all variants, i just really really adore hisuian zorua in particular. i've shiny hunted for it like, 5 times now & i'm slowly but surely working on getting an alpha shiny.... no luck so far but we will get there eventually i hope. anyway zorua is my little baby and zoroark is epic too (and there's that n bias as well what can i say?)

umbreon but very specifically my shiny umbreon, suki, whom i have an emotional attachment to. i would say its my favorite shiny overall outside of zorua/zoroark + giratina and the day i got that thing after hatching so many eggs... pure unprecedented happiness. i also just really love umbreon as a pokemon, it's always been my favorite eeveelution.

alolan ninetales & vulpix were essentially designed just for me, everything about the typing, the overall aesthetic... it all just appeals to me so much. if i was an actual trainer this would 100% be my signature. i also really like kantonian ninetales & vulpix but GOD the alolan variant slap so hard.

metagross, a really neat pokemon, the signature of one of my favorite trainers in the series & another one that i am personally attached to, namely my shiny who's been with me since 2014 when oras initially dropped... it is my big metal baby, i adore it. i also managed to procure another one in swsh in a random max raid battle which is pretty poggers.

giratina, favorite legendary ever, probably the coolest-designed pokemon with really interesting lore & an absolutely impeccable shiny variation, and there's also that bias because volo. i just love how it doesn't really look like a pokemon at all but a biblically accurate angel, but at the same time you can give it pets and feed it poffins :)

I'm enjoying Legends Arceus thus far! My thoughts--

I can't call the game "pretty". It has the same issue as SWSH's wild area; washed out, muddy colors. I've seen comparisons to BotW, but BotW's palettes are much more vibrant and aesthetically pleasing.

There's some solid attention to detail, such as flying Pokemon actually flying while battling over water and such!

However, the amazing animations we were promised are only present sometimes. A lot of the time, it's still just a Pokemon doing a single, default animation without moving from your side, and even more often it's just a Pokemon jumping forward and doing a default animation.

There are lots of new characters, and I like most of the designs--especially for characters like Cyllene, who are clearly meant to be ancestors of 4th Gen characters! It's fun trying to guess who's related to who! (Volo is TOTALLY Cynthia, right?)

The catching mechanics are a little clunky in handheld mode, but still fun!

The lip-flapping is as silly as it was in SWSH. I think the game would have benefited from voice acting.

Overall, I think I still enjoy a more traditional Pokemon experience, but Legends Arceus is an enjoyable departure from it!

Pokemon Legends: Enter the Omegaverse!

The latest Pokemon game by developer GameFreak is a re-imagining of the franchise that defined several key moments of my childhood. Gone are the days of walking around in circles, hoping to enter a random battle with an elusive creature that has a 0.2% of appearing. There are no bicycles to be had. Nor are there any big towns or cities with gyms that are awaiting to be challenged. With Pokemon Legends: Arceus, many of the old formulas are thrown out the window - and the game is better for it. If I had to go back to how Pokemon used to be played, I’d almost definitely find the process exceedingly tiresome and grindy.

Arceus begins with the player character being zapped from their home, given the outfit I was wearing, it felt a bit like Alola, and travelling through a space-time rift into the past. Before I knew it, the God of the Pokemon world had vanished my phone and I was left on a beach without any idea of where I was or when I was. Until a Professor Laventon, dressed in 19th century attire, bumped into me and vouched for my good character into becoming part of Jubilife Village.

Many people have described the aesthetic of Arceus as Feudal Japan. But after spending time in the game world, and taking in the actual technology on display, it felt more like the closing years of the Edo period and perhaps the start of the Meiji. Of course, I’m no actual student of Japanese history and my knowledge is limited to the anime shows I’ve watched.

That aside, I was keen to change out of my t-shirt, shorts and horrendous sandals (I may not have a feet fetish like Quentin Tarantino but my goodness, have you seen the feet of my player character? It’s terrifying!) and into something more appropriate for a grand adventure in the Hisui wilderness.

And what a breath of fresh air was the gameplay! The fact that experience points could be gained just from lobbing a Pokeball and catching these wonderful creatures at full health! The stalking around in tall grass or distracting them with berries or flavoured cakes!

Yes, Pokemon battles still existed but I wasn’t stopped every few metres by some youngster or bug catcher after accidentally making eye contact with them.

For the first time, playing a Pokemon game evoked the feeling of actually living in a world with these creatures and trying to understand how they all fit into the ecosystem. For too long, the games were only satisfied with providing creepy Pokedex entries but limited the way the players could see how these monsters interacted with the environment. And getting to see their individual personalities was also interesting. Not all Pokemon are docile. And just like the inspirations that they derive from, some are aggressive while others scarper at the first sign of trouble.

Night and day also had different Pokemon roaming the wilderness. And, as before, zubats and drifloon proved to be the most irritating to encounter.

From a narrative standpoint, Arceus falters. There’s a basic plotline of the main character helping out the Galaxy team as they explore a new region and helping the clans that already call it home by quelling their frenzied noble Pokemon. Yes, there’s a whole grand reveal of Volo being some sort of cultist of one that is devoted to remaking the whole world in his image by capturing Arceus (which is only revealed in the end-game), but for most of the plot, it was an excuse to bind together the different locations together in order to continue the addictive gameplay loops with a variety of different Pokemon types.

I must say, though, that water types lurking out in the water are the HARDEST to capture. Some of the flying ones are as well, but their pre-evolution forms populate the rest of the world and oft times, it was just a simple affair of levelling them up to evolve.

As for graphic fidelity...while the game is a vast improvement from the models used in previous entries, when compared to the state of video games on other platforms, such as PlayStation and Xbox, it is clear that Pokemon lags behind. The fact that the franchise is about twenty-five years old and STILL doesn’t have voice acting for cutscenes is also a shame. Although, as with my playthrough of the Great Ace Attorney, I also supplied a few of the voices of the characters for my own amusement. That Commander Kamado slipped into some weird interpretation of Scottish when he was angry was just a highlight to voice in the silence of my own gaming area.

Honestly, at this point, my mother probably thinks I’m crazy. But hey, if a game doesn’t have voice acting, I need to supply my own.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is a great step forward for the franchise that has felt like it’s been stagnating for several years. As a player, I’m keen to see how GameFreak might implement the lessons they’ve learned in the development of his game to the mainline games. A modern setting can still work and there’s certainly still a form of wondrous magic that comes with throwing a Pokeball at something and watching it snap and pop with a successful catch.

But on a real note, the introduction of frenzied Pokemon and Alpha Pokemon being much more aggressive does make me wonder about something. As someone that is not unfamiliar with the fanfiction world, it definitely seems like there’s something lurking in the distance. The random lightning wasn’t just imbuing the Noble Pokemon with more power. It was basically putting them into their first heat. All these aggressive stand-offs? They’re all in need of a good ru-

Weekly Media Roundup

- Encanto (Movie) - Rewatched with my family for the 3rd time, man are these songs such bops, this animation so charming. Disney’s best in a while.

- Teen Wolf (TV) - We are well into Season 3 now and I gotta admit, the show has surpassed the “ironic” label into being genuinely good. I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece or anything, but it has a lot going for it. The Nogitsune is a good villain and its lore is interesting, most of the characters are likable (especially Stiles and Kira), the kid’s relationships with their parents are actually wholesome, and I’m loving the horror-aesthetic they are leaning into. I’ve heard it goes downhill from here, which is disappointing to hear, but for now I’m definitely enjoying it far more than I expected to.

- My Dress Up Darling (Anime) - I do not appreciate the sexualization of a character who looks about 12 (I know she says she’s 18. I don’t care), but other than that I’m enjoying this one - At the very least it makes me miss conventions and cosplaying.

- The Vampire Dies In No Time (Anime) - Again this is not a show I would recommend to most people, there are a lot of things that really could be improved, but what can I say - I like these characters. They are so stupid. They bring me joy in the most moronic way possible.

-The Magnus Archives (Podcast) - It’s so good y’all.

-Pokemon Legends Arceus (Video Game) - I haven’t played much since I beat the Volo post game quest, but I have been having fun in the fandom with some nice fanart and comics. For once I am actually excited about a DLC coming out, I think this world is worth expanding upon.

-Inscryption (Video Game) - I’m conflicted over whether I should buy this. On one hand I feel like the story told itself well enough the first time that I don’t feel the need to revisit it, but on the other, Leshy’s portion of the game does seem like it would be genuinely fun to play. I’ve been watching some videos on the ARG aspect of the game as well which like. Geez. People are kinda nuts sometimes huh.

-Ranking of Kings (Anime) - I do really like how nuanced most of the characters are, but we agree that there certainly is an addition to Anime’s Worst Dads in this right? Right. Anyway give me more Queen Hilling I demand it.

-Golden Kamuy (Manga) - So proud of my boi Koito in the most recent chapter, and RIP to a true king, Ushiyama you will be missed.
