Pokémon Day 2024: Next game speculation

Pokémon has been trying to give us unexpected things is the last few years: gen 6 introduced generational battle gimmicks and the fairy type, gen 7 gave us regional forms, pokémon that barely seem like pokémon and Let's Go, gen 8 brought the DLC and Legends Arceus... I feel we could still get a surprise.

Many people have been sharing their thoughts about what the next game could be. It's not a surprise that after the Sinnoh remakes people are waiting for Unova remakes... but where's the surprise on it? It's not that it's a bad idea, but it's not hard to imagine that the Unova games woul: be remade or re-imagined with new graphics (like BDSP or ORAS), get a Legends game set in the past or even a Black 3 & White 3.

After Kanto has been revived through Let's Go, people also theorized that Johto, being not featured in a game for a long time, might be the next region in the spotlight, maybe getting a game that fits the mold of Let's Go or a Legends Celebi.

What if we tried expecting the unexpected? Here are some ideas I thought about:

Pokémon Legends: Futuristic Unova

A good amount of people talked about this, considering all the futuristic elements of the gen 5 games it does fit Unova better than Hoenn or Alola. Pokémon hasn't really touched cyberpunk territory despite all the sci-fi tech it showed, and I feel like the region where you find Genesect and a person building a time machine might be a good opportunity for it. Not the most surprising idea to me though.

Pokémon Let's Go Unova

Very unexpected. Maybe a little unwanted? Unova had a small regional dex so it could benefit from it and it's not hard to reimagine the structure of the DS locations in a Let's Go-esque style.

Pokémon Gold 2 & Silver 2

Now that's something I haven't seen people talking about. B2W2 are very clear sequels to BW, and GSC are considered by some sequels to the gen 1 games, however, Pokémon didn't really gave us sequels to an older game, only to the last core series titles. It'd give us more novelty than any other thing I could think of.

Smoke Co./Team Smoke - Pokemon Legends: Celebi evil team

Upon returning to their time, the PLA protagonist is accidentally transported to modern day Johto, which has gone significantly downhill since Gold and Silver after a new evil team moved in in absence of team Rocket.

Smoke Co. deal in competitive gear, namely immoral methods of forcing a Pokemon's stats into optimal shape, and leveling them up faster than natural. They fight to keep the current ways of Pokemon training, battling any who oppose them, and usually winning due to their competitively trained teams.

I was bouncing around the idea of a Pokemon Legends Johto/Celebi game in my head. But I cant design humans.

However. I love pokemon. So fuck it. Time for a legends concept series

The first pokemon i designed was a fourth, long forgotten member of the legendary birds: Gardecuatro! Its name simply coming crom Gaurd, Garden and Cuatro, the spanish word for the number four.

This pokemon, before it died, acted as a peace keeper among the legendary birds and ho-oh. But once it vanished, the legendary birds scattered across kanto and johto. Gardequatro is thought to be dead, but it is truly unknown what happened to it. Its wings are made of foliage and its feathers are said to bring good luck to foragers and farmers.

So me being me I had to make a somewhat reasonable explanation as to how Emmet was able to go back in time to reunite with Ingo. Aaaand also somehow not lose his memories in the process like Ingo did..

And the best I could come up with is that Emmet suffers a mental break over Ingo going missing. So as a last ditch effort to find him, he goes on a hopeless and almost suicidal journey to try and track down Celebi in a giant forest.

And this guy is the luckiest man in the world because not only does he find Celebi, but Celebi agrees to use its powers to safely bring him back in time to see Ingo.
