Random canonshipping headcanons because I’m invested in this crackship:

Instead of common petnames such as ‘babe’ or ‘darling’, Perrin affectionately calls Viola ‘shutterbug’ bc DUH meanwhile Viola gives me ‘my muse’ vibes but also ‘ma cherie’ because French™️

Viola’s lockscreen is a quick phone pic she took of Perrin’s intensely focused face as she’s about to take a photo of some passerby Santalune Forest Pokémon, but the best part is Viola’s vivillon being casually perched on Perrin’s head the entire time kinda like a comically oversized bow

What can I say when you’re a Pokémon photographer you get used to staying extremely still as not to spook your subject, and sometimes you just get used to becoming a perch fer wild Pokémon who mistake you as a funky looking tree

In this case Viola’s ace just really likes to vibe with her trainer’s girlfriend and Perrin is more than happy with the arrangement even if she doesn’t notice the giant butterfly perched on her half of the time because yeah she’s just used to being a makeshift tree fer randomass mons

Perrin’s lockscreen is a photo she took on her camera of a victorious Viola leaping with joy and a jubilant sparkle in her eye after a hard fought gym battle against a tough opponent she had narrowly beat, the vibrant gym leader celebrating with her vivillon is defo one of Perrin’s favorite pics ever

Yes Perrin loves to photograph Pokémon, but her gym leader girlfriend in action is a very, very close second when it comes to favorite subjects

When it comes to how they met in the first place, I like to think Perrin travels around the world photographing a variety of Pokémon, and when she heard of a Kalosian gym leader who was also a Pokémon photographer specializing in bug types girly just had to visit the region and check her work out

They met in a gallery showcasing Viola’s latest collection of photos, and hit it off real quick with their shared love of capturing the hearts of Pokémon in a single snap (infodumping to each other bout their fave photographers, techniques, praising the other’s work, etc etc)

You know inside jokes with the homies that require seven layers of context and a highly specific sense of humor? Besides a love Pokémon photography itself, Perrin and Viola bond over photographer memes that only they understand like anyone who would overhear the conversation would be so fucking confused

Like, their Pokégram dms are just filled with spamming the other really niche photographer memes/reels because meme spamming is its own love language

Need Viola taking Perrin as her plus one to some Kalos Pokémon League event and Perrin to make some obscure reference that sends the bug type specialist giggling and Korrina leans over to Grant to playfully stage whisper, “Damn, you never made her laugh like that when you two were dating” and Grant would roll his eyes as he goodnaturedly shoves off Korrina and mutter something about weird photographer humor

Grant and Viola as besties who tried dating but found they were better as homies and Grant wingmanning Viola when she was mad crushing on this traveling photographer can I get an amennnnn

There’s tons of long distance girlfriends shenanigans because Viola has to consistently stay in Kalos to run her gym while Perrin continues her travels, this leads to timezone shenanigans where it’s like three am fer one of them and the other is just casually grabbing brunch but it’s finnneeee gods knows the gays don’t need sleep

Assuming they met and started dating pre-Kalos game events, imagine it’s a videocall that’s like:

I’ve got a little, lighthearted rant but it feels wrong to post a rant that relates to a piece of media without including an image… so here’s a meme related to the walls of text under the cut below. Enjoy.

Well… now that I’ve finished up the Blueberry Pokédex for the Indigo Disk and participated in some of the current online events for Scarlet/Violet, I’ve been thinking. Pokémon spin-offs are kind of in a weird place, aren’t they?

Lately spin-offs have amounted to free to play mobile games. Like Pokémon Cafe Remix. Or Pokémon Masters. Sheesh they won’t shut up about those two in Pokémon Presents. We also had stuff like Pokémon Quest which died like instantly. Or Pokémon Unite which is still going strong, it seems. Heck, I was REALLY into Unite for its first year.

But like there used to be a whole slew of spin-offs before the mobile era. Especially during the Wii and DS’s lifespan. The Ranger games, the Poképark games, the game of all time that is Pokémon Dash, the underrated gem that is Pokémon Conquest, and most importantly, the Mystery Dungeon series.

So I wrote out this big rant because to be frank, I’ve been wishing for a new Mystery Dungeon game for years now. I’ve played every game in the series minus those Japan only Wii Ware games. I waited for that seventh generation installment of PMD to come and we got a remake of the first game instead. Don’t get me wrong, I love Rescue Team DX. But as I thought about it more, I realized it was rather odd that I wished for a new installment so much, considering I’m mixed on the vast majority of the franchise. I won’t go into detail on that front since I’m sure the internet doesn’t want to hear my terrible opinions. Regardless, I’ve learned that my favorite parts of these games are those postgame dungeons where you crawl through unforgiving 50+ floors only to be pitted against a souped up legendary at the very end, rather than the main game itself.

Despite my weird thoughts of the series, I kinda want to go back to what spin-offs used to be. Just a bunch of weird games with Pokémon slapped on it. Less of the basic mobile titles. I keep hope with the existence of New Pokémon Snap. Man do I love that game. Spent an embarrassing amount of hours on it. More importantly, I want to return to Mystery Dungeon. There are three whole generations a new title would have to catch up on. So many possibilities for locations or characters for a new narrative, and of course it would have to have the largest roster of starters for the player because I said so and that would be funny. On that note, perhaps I only devised this rant because I want to play as Popplio while wandering the randomized dungeons.

Morning Star - What was the first thing you gave your OC? Name, backstory, design, etc

Aneis: I guess technically the first thing I gave her was her name, even though I've since changed the spelling. I had liked the name Anais before picking up Skyrim (even though I was pronouncing it wrong lol) and had used it for my PC in Pokémon Sword and one of my SDV saves so I just used it again when I started Skyrim. Also side note, I've never watched The Amazing World of Gumball before today while babysitting and I had no clue that was the little sister's name.

Murza: The first thing I came up with for her was just a vague concept. I wanted to play around with mismatched race/class, so of course the first thing I wanted was an orc mage. The second thing I decided for her was that she was gonna be trans because hell yeah.

Dire: The first thing I came up with for him was also a vague concept. I had wanted to make a chaotic evil demigod type character and even though he's changed a lot since initial concept I figured the best way to achieve that would be to make him a demiprince. I wanted him to be kind of conniving and sly and settled on making him the son of Clavicus to get there. Originally he was going to be another one of Aneis' companions who was tagging along just for the vain glory of being a part of the dragonborn's adventures but you know how OCs sometimes seem to have a mind of their own and he eventually got to where he is now :)

Sun's Dawn - Does your OC have a love interest? What is their relationship like?

Aneis: Aneis was always a pretty promiscuous person. She knew she'd have to make Teldryn another one of her conquests from the first moment she saw him without the helmet. They hooked up a few times while traveling on Solstheim, but while going through Nchardak trying to get to the Black Book, he used his whole body to shield her from an automaton that had caught her off guard and that was it, she was done. That night in Severin Manor she sits him down and is like. Look, don't be alarmed and please don't leave because I still need you to guide me around this gods forsaken island. But I think I'm in love with you. To which Teldryn is like

Murza: You know the "me doing whatever my hot witch wife wants" meme? That's Murza and Endurys. However before they were married they were the epitome of idiots in love. Just stupid long stares and longing sighs in camp at night until one day Aneis snaps and shoves them in an inn room together and yells at them to not come out until they've fucked all the yearning out.

Dire: Dire is aroace do no romantic interests for him! But his absolute favorite people in the world are his little cousins and his little brother

First Seed - Does your OC have any enemies or rivals? How did these rivalries start?

Aneis: I know there's lots of people who read into the LDB's relationship to Miraak and how tragic his story is and blah blah blah, he makes my blood boil so Aneis feels the exact same way. As opposed to any other big bad she faces, (Harkon is Serana's White Whale before anyone else, Ulfric had to go for the well-being of the people in her opinion, and defeating Alduin was more for the people she loved and needed to protect than anything else) Miraak makes it personal for her, acting like some sort of sibling rival to her when Akatosh is nothing more to her than a perverted puppet master playing with her fate. She actually loathes any of the Dovah who call her sister without having earned that respect from her first (like Paarthurnax and Odahviing have). As far as she's concerned she only has one father and he never used her to clean up his messes, he gave his life trying to protect his homeland from the Dominion.

Murza: I've been wanting to play around with the concept of Savos Aren being the big bad of the College Quest line as opposed to Ancano. Like Ancano is still evil and shit, but like, Aren was actually in league with him the whole time. He needed the Thalmor's resources to get him to the Eye and the Staff and the second he has what he needs he betrays their shaky alliance. Anyway yeah I think Murza would kinda always be wary of Savos and it would also legitimize her succeeding him as opposed to any other member of the staff if she's the one who was able to fell him.

Dire: I wouldn't say Dire had any real enemies or rivals. I'm kinda keeping his story once he goes adventuring on his own open because of TES:VI supposedly being eminent and I might want to use him in that game. So as of right now, in the Skyrim timeline, he's just a lil guy? Who could hate that?

Rain's Hand - Can your OC use magic? If so what Schools?

Aneis: Aneis knows three spells: close wounds, clairvoyance, and muffle. All taught to her by her father as they're the most useful out in the wild while tracking prey. She can also do a bit of fire magic, but nothing more than just enough to light a campfire. She might later learn heal undead for the sake of Serana though.

Murza: I'm not sure what to say for her. She's the arch mage of course she uses magic. I guess she is particularly adept at conjuration, being a follower of Malacath and having a half daedric son

Dire: Dire would mostly be adept with alteration and illusion, but also conjuration because duh. I could see him as a very small child, using alteration to make his toys move without touching them, a slightly older child summoning small beasts from oblivion to play with (maybe even Uncle Barbas), and when his cousins are babies, using illusion to calm them down and keep them entertained.

Second Seed - Is your OC an alchemist? What do they excel at making?

Aneis: Araneth, Aneis' mother, was an apothecary. In the same way her father passed his hunting prowess to her, her mother also tried to give her as much of her knowledge as she could as well. She didn't much get it or appreciate it while her mother was alive, but later in life she put the effort into actually trying to understand her mother's teachings. She eventually becomes about as skilled as your average professional alchemist.

Murza: Gonna preface this with the fact that I still consider alchemy a school of magic even though it counts as a thief's skill in Skyrim. Anyway I think it would be the one school to slip her grasp. It's just too... material. Breaking an enemy's mind with a flick of her wrist? Summoning a sword from Oblivion that weighs nothing in hand but can slice through trees? Those are the kinds of esoteric things that Murza understands. Plants that need to be boiled at a certain temperature and creatures' innards that need to be removed in an exact precise manner? May as well be Dwemeris to her.

Dire: Dire is like his mother in that alchemy is just too far over his head. But he isn't as frustrated about his lack of comprehension as she is. Why would he need to worry about mixing potions when he can just find them well and good for the taking in every dungeon in Tamriel?

Mid Year - Does your OC have a favourite celebration? Do they celebrate holidays?

Aneis: Hircine's summoning day is a very special time for her. She always spends days hunting before hand, trying to gather as much a variety of pelts and trophies as she can for her offering. This is even though, as his champion, they are definitely not necessary, the woman fells dragons in his name. However she always prepares as much as she can for him, and once summoned she always has the same simple request for him. To deliver a message to her family in the Hunting Grounds, that she loves them, and misses them, and hopes she is making them proud.

Murza: Murza always tries to make it a point to be home at Lakeview Manor for the Witches Fest. She loves seeing the children dressed up and doing little tricks to entertain them. (This goes along with the headcanon that Lakeview Manor would eventually have a little village crop up around it)

Dire: He would very much enjoy the Jester's Festival, but his absolute favorite is Clavicus' summoning day. I've joked before that it's the only time he gets to play catch with his dad, but since he is also a small aspect of Vile in and of himself, I think the whole day he'd just feel a little closer to Oblivion and it makes him feel whole.

Sun's Height - What is your OC's favourite shop, in any of the games; what do they buy the most of?

Aneis: Aneis adores The Drunken Huntsman. Anoriath is a very talented fletcher and Elrindir is always game to swap hunting stories. They make the whole establishment feel like what she's been missing from Valenwood all these years away, even as a wooded building. They're probably the only people in Tamriel she trusts to service her family bow.

Murza: Murza actually likes hanging around Tel Mithryn. Neloth always has interesting, useful things to sell to her and she suspects he likes her company as she's much quicker to catch onto his teachings than his actual apprentice (sorry, Talvas).

Dire: Even though Enthir's displeasure at having a child on college grounds was always well known to Dire, he still likes bugging him to show him all the weird, cool things he has for sale, which he has no intention of buying. Just looking and maybe a little swiping to play with later.

Last Seed - What weapon does your OC use? Who taught them how to use it?

Aneis: Aneis' main weapons are her family's heirloom bow and the battleaxe gifted to her by Balgruuf. Her father taught her how to shoot and she's self taught with the axe. She'd honestly never touched a two handed weapon in her life before but she thought the nords might think it a great insult for her to not use a weapon gifted to her by the Jarl, so she just swung it around until she found what felt good and did the most damage.

Murza: Murza got her base knowledge of magic from Atub, but growing up in the stronghold she was also expected to learn to swing a sword. Though the swords she uses now are less... mundane. She uses summoned weapons. Idk if that got across lol.

Dire: Dire has had a natural affinity for magic since birth but he hones his craft under the tutelage of his mother and the other professors of Winterhold.

Hearthfire - Does your OC have a family (blood or found)? Who are they closest to?

I can answer this generally for all three characters. The whole of the found family (the people who live at Lakeview Manor) are Aneis, Murza, Teldryn, Endurys, Dire, Hab, Cinuri, Braiel, and the dogs, Sable and Merc. Aneis and Murza are closest to each other platonically, and though he'd never admit it, Dire is closest to Cinuri, she's his best friend.

Frost Fall - Where is your OC's primary residence? What city is there favourite?

Aneis: Aneis knows most of the Bosmer living in Skyrim find The Rift to be the closest approximate to their homeland, she finds the quite, backwoods nature of Falkreath reminds her much more of the area she grew up in. Of course she loves her quite little life on the homestead, surrounded by all her loved ones.

Murza: Technically, Murza's main residence is the college, but she tends not to spend much time there, mainly because she gets lonely. Endurys hates the cold having grown up in the shit hole of Eastmarch and avoids the college as much as possible and Aneis only goes if she's asked to specifically by Murza. So she ends up spending most of her year in Lakeview.

Dire: His parents have determined its much better for him to grow up in an actual stable home surrounded by actual stable adults, so most of his childhood is spent in Lakeview. However, once in a while, Murza will bring him with her on her trips to the college and he loves it. So many places to explore and get into trouble and so many people to bug until they relent and teach him something new.

Sun's Dusk - Is your OC religious? If so, who do they follow?

Aneis: Aneis' grandmother was a priestess of Hircine, her father a priest, and the rest of her family devotees. Their whole devotion is based on having such hunting prowess on their own, they have no need for the gift of the beast blood. This of course culminated in Aneis literally being born to be the greatest hunter of the greatest prey, the Last Dragonborn.

Murza: Murza has always felt like an outsider, even within her own tribe growing up, so she finds a lot of solace in the tenants of Malacath. She also keeps a quiet reverence for Dibella, as her priestesses were the ones who helped her become her most true self.

Dire: Dire doesn't really necessarily worship Clavicus Vile, he just kinda has this air of thankfulness around the subject of his daedric parent. After all it is through his connection to Oblivion that he is able to help so many people and keep his family together in the afterlife.

10. What's an AU that would be interesting to explore with your OC?

((Ooooo, I actually do got 3 aus written in notes for the boi: 2 of them would be a split after the Valor incident and the other a post post game Violet au.

The first is a 'Welcome to Hisui' au, where Aevery is the protag in Legends Arceus that I've been very slowly working on a fic for that I hope yall look forward too so I won't go too into detail here. (With. Certain lore bits coming forward this one is starting to get more interesting :] )

The second, 'Lost Valor', was an au where the Interceptor just didn't exist/didn't NEED to exist. Aevery would wake up at Oceana Pier, no memory, no record, no home, and most of all no Pokémon. Essentially he would be back at square 1 from before he became Interceptor, just in Aevium instead of his old world. And let's just say, the poison type pokemon that hang around the garbage in alleys are a bit more dangerous than regular rats and raccoons. He does eventually find a home to belong after. A lot of time living on the streets stealing garbage and berries to survive, and of course he ends up with Echo in the end (never separating him and the borb. Brothers in any life)

And for the Violet au, I figured a fun idea would be for Aevery to be sent to school for a year after the post-game so that he could get a proper education and take a break from. Everything that happened in Aevium. The first half before the treasure hunt would be pretty tame, I could see Aevery going into home ec so he could help around more (and maybe because he really had a ton of fun in the cook-off side quest).

The treasure hunt itself would vary:

The Gym Battles would be standard, if insanely easy compared to Aevium, and Nemona would have fun being able to go all out against her new rival bestie, not even slightly upset if Echo manages to beat her team just excited that a normally weak 1st stage Pokémon could be so strong and present a real challenge like that. The rest of his team, both the few he brought with him and the new he added, would bring just as much excitement to battles. She would be absolutely excited to meet any of Aevery's super strong friends too. Could see her wanting to visit Aevium to challenge their gyms.

Team Star would cause worry at first (there's been too many evil teams), but they really are just a group of students fighting bullying and having maybe too much fun. Penny would be fighting herself to not fangirl over Aevery's unique shiny Sylveon at first, but would definitely ask to see her up close once she achieves friend status.

Path of the Titans would be when it starts getting a bit too close to home. Klawf looks like it could be a rift Krabby at first so Aevery is very relieved that it's just a really giant Paldea Pokémon. Iron Treads, on the other hand, looks waaaay too much like a Garufa mech Pokémon, and the fact that it's supposed to be from a mysterious crater that no one is allowed into? Arven would have to snap him out of any panic at that one. The sandwich making and watching Mabosstif heal would be a silver lining, and I could see the boys bonding over cooking.

Area Zero. Would bring all the worst memories of exploring Garufa ruins back to the front: the otherworldly feel of going deeper down, all the different hostile mechanical Pokémon, the unnerving notes in the scattered research buildings, the very obvious signs that something terrible happened in the last one, and the AI professor battle. That feeling of absolute helplessness when the pokeballs lock: no Daniel, no Sylveon, no Echo. Once the battle is actually over and they all climb out of the crater, some phone calls and a sleepover are in order.

Kitakami is a breath of fresh air: more familiar Pokémon, much more peaceful wilds, and some more new friends. Aevery would instantly hit it off with Kieran; just 2 shy boys bonding over folklore. The idea of lying about Ogerpon would leave a bad taste in his mouth and I could see him just telling Kieran the truth. The Lousy Three would still get woken up because I could see Kieran still being upset at his sister still not telling him the truth, and he'd still start his 'Champion' arc because Ogerpon would still choose Aevery over him, but at least most of the journey wouldn't be as tense as canon. Ogerpon would mostly stay in Kitakami, but being registered to Aevery means she could be called to join his team any time they want.

Indigo Disk would feel like a combination gym challenge/ break Kieran out of his funk. Of course, things play out mostly the same with Drayton poking the Ursaring so to speak (Right, ex-champ?), and the return to Area Zero is very much not something Aevery wants to do, but he can't let his new friends go down there without someone who knows what to expect. Definitely tells Rika that he'd gotten pretty direct permission from Professor Turo to go down there the first time tho. Everyone is very emotional after very much almost dying to Terapagos. "I'm never going down there again I don't care who asks me or why." (Lie. Aevery would do anything to help. Dlc 2 here we come :] ) Friendship with Kieran restored. Don't know where Terapagos would stay considering how powerfully dangerous it could be. Maybe Geeta could keep him. She's the actual champion of Paldea after all. The Terrarium is kinda nice, but being so far underwater in a glass dome not so nice.

Mochi Madness. First would be fun having all his new friends get to meet eachother, then scary with the weird possession thing going on, then just silly with all the 'Pecha Zombies' dancing. If he didn't know the mochi was bad news, Aevery would absolutely end up eating one. Pecha is his favorite after all. Maybe he could pitch the experience as a movie idea back at PokeStar Studio?

Small Bonus: Inviting coaches to Blueberry. I think even Erin would feel a love for battling with Nemona cheering her on.

"Well, come on," and there's that smirk she saw a hundred times as a child. "Let's hear it."

Misty takes a drink of her margarita, sits up in her chair, and puts on her best 'I fight ten year olds for a living' grin.

"Honey, you've got a big storm coming."

Gary bursts into laughter; genuine delight, miles different from the mocking cackles of his youth. Misty is too surprised to retaliate for a beat. The hot flush in her cheeks is from the tequila they've been drinking, nothing else.

"What?" she demands, leaning across the table at him, aware of Janine and the Lieutenant beside her like someone is aware of the couch on the other side of the room. "Like you don't have cheesy one-liners you use during battles."

"Yeah, but that's like-- boring levels of cheese."

"Boring?!"

Misty leaps - stumbles, actually - off of her barstool, knocking it over in the process.

"That's it," and she snaps her fingers as she points at him. "Outside. Battle. Now."

Gary oozes off his own seat, grabbing the table for balance. "Did you even bring Monsters out with you?"

She did, but only the one. That's why she steps in close to the Leader slash Champion slash Professor slash Absolute Asshole and grabs him by the belt. Dark brown eyes widen, and she can feel his breath on her cheeks, see the faint sheen of sweat on his forehead. For a crucial moment, she forgets what she's doing.

It's been a while since she was this close to Gary Oak. He grew into his good looks, which she refuses to admit to anyone, and he's probably her favorite of the Leaders who come to this monthly informal bar crawl across Cinnabar. Brock would be, if he came, or Erika, but it's this brilliant little thorn in her side who she comes all the way out here to see. He even has the audacity to tan instead of burn and freckle and burn again. That's probably why his eyes are searching her face so closely; trying to count all the little splotches of color on her cheeks.

Someone whistles, snapping her out of her trance. Right.

Misty yanks two Pokéballs off Gary's belt and releases him, her heart pounding and her legs weak. Reaches blindly backwards for her glass of water and takes two pulls of the Lieutenant's beer before she realizes her mistake, splutters, and finally breaks eye contact to locate her drink.

"Just fuck already," Faulkner laments.

It probably doesn't help their case that she and Gary both whip around and snap "no!" at the same time.

Misty finishes her water but she still feels dizzy-drunk, heat in the pit of her stomach and a ringing in her ears. Gary's undone a couple more buttons in his shirt, leaving it loose halfway down his ribcage like a slut, and two can play at that game. She gathers up the hem of her t-shirt, twists it, and tucks it through the collar so it hugs her bra and bares her stomach.

"Arceus," someone mutters, "I'm too old for this shit."

Gary gets up in her space again, herding her towards the exit. "Give those Balls back," he declares, "you don't even know which ones you grabbed."

"I don't need to know, I'll find out when I throw them!"

He's got her backed against the wall in the entryway, hands sliding down her arms as he tries to reclaim his Pokémon. "You have no brain for tactics, do you?" he taunts. Something clatters and rolls across the floor.

Misty spins him around and traps him against the same wall, his wrists on either side of his head. "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard," she retorts. He lets out a choked noise.

"Are they always like this?" Bugsy asks.

"Yes," come multiple replies.

"Oh. Um."

Gary attempts to sneer at her. "That's not even the right anecdote for the situation, Storm Girl." The effect is somewhat ruined by the light dancing in his eyes. He thinks she's funny. And he should, she's hilarious, so she presses a little harder and he makes another sound.

"Fuck you," but she's smiling too, much as she hates it, and--

FFFSSSHHHHHHH!

Icy cold water blasts the pair of them, soaking them to the bone. Misty jumps backwards with a screech, and Gary curses violently. Both of them stare at Misty's Tatsugiri, who is glaring up at them with much more condemnation than should be able to fit in such a small, floppy body. Its Pokéball, painted in the lovely blue shades of a Dive Ball, sits open on the floor.

Well, shit.

"Tatsu!" it demands, and Misty wipes water off her goose-pebbled skin.

"W-We're not going to b-battle now, in soaking clothes, s-so get that idea out of your head," she chides the violence-hungry little fish, bending over to grab the Ball. Behind her, Gary makes his third strangled sound of the night and mutters something that might have been "stop it" to himself. "We're going to the C-center for towels."

"Seemed fine battling wet a minute ago," Surge hoots from across the bar, and Misty flips him off.

A flash of red light and another squeal of diminutive rage, and the Tatsugiri is withdrawn. Gary has stepped fully outside and is wringing out his shirt onto the sidewalk, so he doesn't see her when she approaches and jabs him in the side with stiff fingers.

"Fuck!" he yelps, and isn't it nice that his hair looks less stupid when it's dripping wet around his face? "What now, Red?"

"Towels. You're not flying home like that. You'll get sick." Misty jerks her head to the side, gesturing for him to follow, and starts walking.

"I'll be fine," but she can hear him follow her anyway, the wet slap of two sets of shoes walking downtown.

It's warmer outside than in the bar, even at night. Her denim shorts are starting to chafe against her skin already, but Misty doesn't let that or the occasional curious look of other people slow her down.

"You ever think we should?" asks Gary, tone light.

Misty glances at him over her shoulder. He's thrown his shirt back on like a jacket, loose and clinging, and he's not chiseled or anything but it's-- well--

"Think we should what?"

One shoulder twitches in a poor imitation of a casual shrug. "You know. Have sex."

Misty stumbles, recovers, and keeps walking with her eyes on the sidewalk ahead, lit in a hundred directions by a hundred different lights. "Nope."

"Oh, good, me neither."

The answer isn't nearly that simple.

Gary has been a part of her life for a little too long for something like a hookup to be easy; they're friends, finally, after years of bitter rivalry in defense of Ash and he's-- fun. She can pick on him and he can dig at her, a full scale assault of childish insults and slapping hands, and it fills the void her sisters left behind when they moved to Unova. She likes him. And crossing that line of intimacy and messing it up... scares her.

She's not drunk anymore. They're not even looking at each other. There's not excuse for the thought that tumbles it's way out of her mouth.

"You know, hotels would have towels, too."

"Yeah," he agrees, "yeah they would. Closer too, probably."

The hotel and the Pokémon Center are right next to each other, to be honest, and Misty still can't look at him as she turns right instead of left. But the door behind her doesn't close, caught instead by another hand, and side by side they walk into the lobby.
