Something I find really ironic about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is how, when the games were initially released, a majority of the audience ragged on them (fairly) for being all buggy and rushed; it was obvious that, at the time, Game Freak cut corners in order to get the games released at the promised date.

And then the updates/patches came out, and then the DLCs... And you know what? Honestly? Pokémon Violet has taken Moon's place of my favorite Pokémon games.

You may be wondering why and my answer is simple: the characters- specifically, our "rivals". They have so much personality and depth to them, it's hard not to fall in love with their stories, and those stories had me feeling genuine sympathy for them.

Listening to Arven, Penny, and Nemona's back and forth on our Area Zero trip was just so... endearing, you know? Like it felt like I was listening to real people have a conversation.

Don't even get me started on Kieran and how fascinating and heartbreaking his arc was... ouuughhh my boy. My baby boy. I adore him!!

TL;DR: In my opinion, the character writing in SV was really well done, and I hope it continues improving in the next Pokémon game(s).

P.S. Have two memes because I was having a really hard time figuring out which one was funnier.

Here’s an idea: since the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet protagonists are implied to have moved from Galar to Paldea, I propose that the Pokémon community portray Juliana and/or Florian as having English or Irish accents (Gloria already has the Scottish Pokegirl market cornered).

Okay so, if you don’t have Pokémon Scarlet or Violet, I’d just like to say that first of all, you definitely should get it if you can, it’s actually pretty amazing and I love it.

Second of all, I think that the character creation for this game is amazing. It’s not perfect and there are obviously some limitations, but my character looks so pretty and I love her <333

So, I’ve decided to share that love!

I’ll be displaying screenshots of every customization option, and you can request a combination of features and I’ll go in the game and create the character for you!

This is for avatar and/or pfp uses, or if you even have an idea for a new character you’re coming up with! And if you end up not liking the combination you chose, you can request as many changes as you want (^^)

All credits go to Pokémon Violet (as that’s the version I have) and its creators. I own none of the art, the only thing I own here is my copy of the game, and all I’m doing is just going in and customizing the character profile to however you want it and taking a picture.

So without further ado, here is the culmination of hours of screenshot taking (+260), image transferring(it only let me transfer them ten at a time it took so long), and editing until 1 am! (And then some)

thinking about how Florian/Juliana are just as trapped by the narrative as Kieran is.

in the battle against the Paradise Protection Protocol, you have to use Tera Blast. you can’t use any items. even if you try to, it’ll make you.

you can’t tell Kieran the truth. there’s no option to.

you can’t refuse to give the professor the book. they’ll insist on it.

you have to catch the legendaries of the DLC. you can’t refuse to.

you can’t lose a story battle. the story will only ever move forward if you win. it might say you scurried back to a pokémon center, but characters don’t acknowledge that you have.

isn’t it strange how Kieran went to the Dreaded Den for years and never once encountered Ogerpon?

it’s because you’re the center of this world.

the protagonist is the person the story is about.

but they are as trapped in their role as everyone else.

you are the monarch of this world and the crown only fits you.

and it can’t be taken off.

i don't feel like really coloring this rn so here are some rough sketches of my older tealmask designs! kieran is a mask maker & competitive battler while florian is paldea's new pokémon professor, (he specializes in pokémon mythology & terastallization.)
