— ♥ the incident of his career hadn’t just affected him physically, a mental toll was in state along with it including his bit of possessiveness for you.

— ♥ he can’t help it. after all, you’re on his list of most cherished. and as cheesy as it sounds, he’d hate losing someone so precious to him as he’d lost his occupation.

— ♥ so when he sees this person shamelessly hitting on you, of course he’s going to step in and say something.

— ♥ glaseado mountain has a few forms. sometimes calm, sometimes sharp and unforgiving as if mad at the people climbing its skin. grusha’s cold persona towards the person embodied that.

— ♥ would probably threaten to pokémon battle. just because he’s an ice type gym leader doesn’t mean that he’ll just have ice type pokémon on hand every time, so he’d most likely use varieties including those you’ve traded with him.

— ♥ he’ll be levelheaded as much as he can until the other person initiates a snap or an aggressive show, but either way in the end he’ll definitely come up to you and ask if you’re okay.

— ♥ expect a brief hug after, and maybe a few kisses or two. he’s not too big on pda, especially if some people come by to watch him battle and he’s waiting for the area to clear up.

— ♥ but the best part is him being in denial about being clingy afterwards. that’s when teasing him is essential.

❝ arven ❞

— ❀ he’s the type to be suspicious and accusatory first, ask later.

— ❀ will cross his arms and be sassy. maybe something like, “is this person bothering you, (y/n)? i can deal with ‘em.”

— ❀ when he’s jealous he’s obvious. he’ll pull you in more, scowl and throw sarcastic comments at the other person, and he’ll suggest to go somewhere else.

— ❀ WILL throw in a regular pokemon challenge to the other if it gets to that point. like might as well make it a tradition or smth to go up to someone and challenge them whenever lmao ,, wait that already happens

— ❀ arven would also grasp onto your arm or sleeve subconsciously, afterwards backing away and apologizing after the person’s gone for just grabbing your arm.

— ❀ “i hate it when people just keep persisting on someone even when they’re obviously taken…” arven would sigh, “…but hey, it means you’re hot stuff if people keep coming to take you away from me!”

— ❀ then he’d offer to go on a picnic or something, whatever you’d like. he’s just glad that you’re there with him, no matter what.

❝ jacq ❞

— ☾ the other person isn’t gonna take jacq seriously. i mean, he does look like he just woke up, with his laid back attitude and ruffled clothing. but the charm in it was something you could admire, and clearly the other person didn’t see that.

— ☾ he’s a lil irritated. not just because this person’s competing against him, but also because they have a solid chance.

— ☾ they looked better and dressed better, they were smooth with talking, and in no way did jacq feel as if he could compete properly against them.

— ☾ you seemed to sense his thoughts, holding his hand comfortingly. his heart, as if a weight was pushed off of it, immediately lightened.

— ☾ THEN he had the confidence to say some things. and after you both left the scene, a semi-heartbroken person left behind, he’d kiss you on the forehead thanking you for everything.

— ☾ sure, it was just a small scenario that doesn’t hold much significance in one’s eye. but it strengthened your relationship in the end, and as dorky as it seems, it mattered.

— ☾ jacq’s a good person. he just needs you there to remind him of it. give him one compliment and he’ll pay back tenfold.

So I know Arven’s nickname for us, ‘little buddy’, is 100% a completely platonic title he you gives you as someone who’s inherently a softy and connects with you pretty quickly as you dive into helping him with his biggest troubles.

But as a full on Arven simp and someone who’s also a very touchy feely person there’s just something so extremely affectionate about that title. Now whether you prefer the idea of a platonic or romantic relationship with him is all up to the individual, and is totally valid. But for me there’s just no denying the genuine giddiness I feel whenever he calls you that.

Perhaps it’s because he’s one of the few characters in Pokémon games to flat out call you something other than your name. Or maybe the fact that he mostly prefaces it with ‘my’ before saying it, which adds this extra layer of praise and slight possessiveness as if he was instantly attached to you at the hip. Not to mention it usually follows up after a compliment. And the feelings just grow stronger as you continue on your journey with him, getting to know his personality and motivations as he learns yours. Slowly leaning on and confiding in one another through it all.

It’s almost like he knew, like he knew he made the right choice. Sure at beginning it was because he realized you were a strong enough trainer to help him, but he started to see you were so much kinder and cooler. Your reputation proceeded you, but he got to know you personally and not many others can say that. He has so much pride in you and feels like he owes you so much, the least he can do is stick by your side being as much of a constant in your life as you are in his.

At the beginning you were his little buddy and through everything you’re still HIS little buddy. And running into him throughout the game and hearing him say that has made me physically smile more times than I’ve realized.

Something I find really ironic about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is how, when the games were initially released, a majority of the audience ragged on them (fairly) for being all buggy and rushed; it was obvious that, at the time, Game Freak cut corners in order to get the games released at the promised date.

And then the updates/patches came out, and then the DLCs... And you know what? Honestly? Pokémon Violet has taken Moon's place of my favorite Pokémon games.

You may be wondering why and my answer is simple: the characters- specifically, our "rivals". They have so much personality and depth to them, it's hard not to fall in love with their stories, and those stories had me feeling genuine sympathy for them.

Listening to Arven, Penny, and Nemona's back and forth on our Area Zero trip was just so... endearing, you know? Like it felt like I was listening to real people have a conversation.

Don't even get me started on Kieran and how fascinating and heartbreaking his arc was... ouuughhh my boy. My baby boy. I adore him!!

TL;DR: In my opinion, the character writing in SV was really well done, and I hope it continues improving in the next Pokémon game(s).

P.S. Have two memes because I was having a really hard time figuring out which one was funnier.

I am SO pleased with how this turned out!! I commissioned @jmars-art to bring my vision to life of a personal headcanon of the professor being an avid journaler - and will be a future fic scene! JMars was professional and responsive as well as added great insight and recommendations to enhance my idea further - there's something really special when you can fine-tune ideas with other passionate artists and let creativity lead the way. The quality speaks for itself, and is truly stunning.

This will be a future scene for my current multi-ch fic, Cognitive Dissonance, which takes place post-canon during Arven's final year at Uva and is my story of writing Arven's journey towards closure that feels raw and real to me, while he navigates a new relationship that is jeopardized after the press finds out about the professor's fate.

After what feels like hitting rock-bottom and being forced into isolation in his dorm room, Clavell stops by and hands over to Arven all Turo's journals he was able to discreetly retrieve from Area Zero. Arven is quick to realize that many of the journals are not all research-focused and are personal diaries spanning years, even from before he was born. He gets a first-hand look at the inner thoughts of his father and insight and clarity over what happened to him over the years and the relationship with his absent mother.

This is part of an ongoing project I am doing by commissioning artists in the community/fandom to draw a scene from a select chapter. I am an advocate and supporter of the arts as a creative myself and wanted to try something that involves and supports other artists 😊 and also to keep myself motivated to keep writing 😅

you groaned at your immobility, your head and legs hazy and tired like a weight was strapped onto them. you felt miserable and unbearably uncomfortable with the sweat trickling down your neck from your fever; but recovery takes time, and how you were spending it in bed felt long without movement.

the tv in the background, though playing a favorite show of yours, resounded in your head as a distant buzz of noise. what, or who, you were focused on was your caring boyfriend with his clashing of utensils and pots, making something for you that was “guaranteed to flip your frown upside down.”

apparently, he’d acquired some sort of spice from one of his recent ventures that he claimed would heal you up pretty quickly. you’d joked about it being a burn heal, and he’d laughed along and said it was something better. it sure smelt better, the aroma floating inside your room already lifting some of that weight off your legs just to go see what he’s making.

still, you were tired. and walking was the last thing you felt like doing.

thankfully, arven had finished as he flourished a bowl and scooped what seemed to be a soup of some kind out of the pot to rest in the container. after sprinkling some other things on top, he picked up the bowl and strolled carefully towards the bed.

“voilà, an arven speciality!” he held out the bowl to you. spoon in hand, he peeked a glance at you. “…are you strong enough to help yourself? or do you want me to?…”

“i feel like i can barely move my legs, much less my arms.” you replied, your voice evident of your fatigue.

“i’ll feed you, then! you okay with that?”

“i mean—sure,” you were a bit caught off guard by his immediate response, but it quickly faded as his reaction reminded you of how much he loved you.

spoon feeding was definitely not something arven was used to—but how hard could it be? embarrassing was a word he could use to describe it. but it just as quickly faded as your off guard expression did as soon as your eyes lit up at how good it tasted, not to mention revitalizing.

it seemed that life just coursed through you as you slowly but surely sat up. sure, you were still burning. but some of your strength was back to being awakened.

“it worked!! do you like it?!” he set the bowl and spoon into your stretched out hands.

“of course i do!” you smiled softly, eyes closing. “anything made by you is a treat to me.”

his face turned pink as he sighed in relief, your giggling to his growing flush delivering another cupid’s arrow to his heart.
