Plestia was forced to evacuate, now Motaz has to evacuate too. I’m grateful for their safety. but these people are being chased out of their home literally, and i think what we should collectively feel is not relieved but angry that they can’t have safety im their own homeland. It’s outrageous. It’s not normal is what i want to say. It shouldn’t be normalized

A portrait of Plestia Alaqad. Free Palestine.
My heart is breaking that we are currently seeing the manufactured consent for Palestinian genocide. Ethnic persecution and genocide are about power, land, and wealth. Hate is a justification for seizing land & wealth and solidifying the power of those enacting the genocide. This is shown time and again throughout history. One day the world will apologise to Palestinians. My fear is that by then, it will be too late.
I've been crying daily in the privilege of my safe home, where my value as a human isn't questioned by governments or media based on my ethnicity. If you have the privilege of safety, don't look away. It is so incredibly important to keep listening, learning, sharing, protesting, donating. Don't normalise genocide. Thank you Plestia, Bisan, Yara, Motaz and all the others bravely speaking up in Gaza.
* Obviously, I don't condone the killing of innocent civilians - by Hamas or anyone else. What happened on October 7th was a tragic symptom of oppression. I therefore unequivocally condemn the Israeli government who created these oppressive conditions. For 75 years, they have colonised land by displacing, subjugating and killing Palestinians using the backing, money and military tech from global superpowers. Hamas does not equal Palestine. Zionism does not equal Judaism. I strongly support anti-Zionist Jewish voices. I strongly support a free Palestine.

Genuinely heartbreaking seeing the journalists in Gaza get more and more gaunt as the effects of Israel’s forced famine take a toll on their bodies. Videos they posted three weeks ago versus today are actually pretty jarring.
Israel is stopping aid from getting in, bombing bakeries, attacking water tanks, and destroying fishing boats. Gaza is being starved and it’s so clear to see on Palestinian faces missing their full cheeks and debuting new sunken in eyes

In ASL and SSL, this is the gesture for "Inshallah," which means means "God willing"; it's used to express hope that a specific future event will come to pass.
In a few hours, a temporary ceasefire or "humanitarian pause" is going to start
Shortly after posting this, the "pause" began—and the IOF immediately broke it by opening fire on Palestinians returning to their homes in northern Gaza.
A true, permanent ceasefire is one of the most urgent demands, but WHEN a ceasefire is declared, nobody gets to pat themselves on the back.
And end to the violence can't mean a return to business as usual, where the occupation and apartheid continue and Palestinians are still getting displaced on their own land.
israel must be abolished. They, the US, Canada, the EU, must be made to pay reparations.
Inshallah, we will not stop at a ceasefire
Inshallah, we will see complete liberation for Palestine
🇵🇸 Things you can do below 🇵🇸
🍉 SHARE posts from Palestinians, especially journalists on the ground (copy link on IG works just as well as sharing?). They're literally dying for that footage 🙃 let's make sure it counts
🍉 DONATE an E-sim @connectinghumanity_ on IG
🍉 DONATE to @CareForGaza (Twitter; donation links should be on their profile too). A lot of donation drives are just... making a grab at clout but this one is legit; a number of Gazans confirm that the food/produce is getting to them. The organizer seems to be Palestinian and living there as well
🍉 BOYCOTT brands listed by @bdsnationalcommittee on IG
Official boycott targets: AXA, Puma, Carrefour, Siemens, Ahava, HP, Sodastream, any products from Israel
Organic boycott targets: Domino's, McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Wix
🍉 PRESSURE your governments & officials to call for a ceasefire and #InvokeGenocideConvention at the ICJ (rootsaction.org)
🍉 PROTEST. If there are mobilizations in your area, show up to be part of the count. No heroics—do what you feel safe doing and listen to the organizers.

it was also important to me to include an Al-Qassam fighter in this, because they're often scapegoated by Western media, and also by well-meaning allies who say "but civilians are not Hamas"; there's this attempt to separate militant resistance from the process of liberation as a whole
Yeah, most civilians are not Hamas, but they don't denounce them either. Palestinians call them freedom fighters, protectors.
because the resistance is not a bunch of evil, violent outliers; they are as much victims of the occupation as the women, children, and non-combatants are. Most if not all of them were born under the occupation; a good percentage of them are also orphans.
I will never condemn boys who live along the coast but have never seen the sea.

IMPORTANT.
This is more dangerous than any "propaganda" that israeli and the IOF tried to push since the beginning. Remember that Israel knows every single target they bomb, they have air drones flying 24/7 they know every single person they bomb in gaza. Also remember that these journalist are younger than even half of us, by labeling them as terrorists it means Israel is planning on wiping them out without facing consequences (which has already been the case with many Palestinian journalists especially those who work at aljazeera).
Note that these all are independent journalists on social media who are recording their life. Also note that Israel has killed 37 journalist and wiped entire families of other journalists since October 7.

I was reading an article from CNN about journalists in Gaza (link) and this particular paragraph stuck out to me...
Tumblr media
I was initially a journalism major in college so I understand the background of why an organization like CNN would require this style of reporting (i.e. "both sides" representism). However, these inserts of Isreali "viewpoints" that have been shown to be barefaced lies in an article about Gazan journalists risking their lives is just piss-poor optics.
If anyone wonders why people have lost faith in traditional media sources, this is a perfect example. In an article centering Palestinian voices, the organization still requires that Israeli talking points be linked as well and often, in the same paragraph. It reads like: 'here's a quote about a personal lived experience of genocide but nah uh, here's isreali propaganda claiming they are lying and bc they are an ally, they should be believed'. It's American/Western exceptionalism at its finest because "why should we believe a Palestinian, they aren't paragons of truth and justice like we are?"
I don't know if I quite explained myself like I wanted but this particular article just made me so angry that CNN and other Western media were once considered 'trustworthy' sources of information and now are parroting isreali lies. AND telling their readers that Palestinian voices on the ground telling first-hand information are not "good enough" sources of information.
