"So we all stole Shiro's car right?"
A particularly young looking version of himself raises his hand, "-I stole his hoverbike, actually."
An older version of himself cocks his head in confusion, "-Shiro doesn't even own a car. He's like, eighteen."
"Shiro?" A version of himself who is sporting some nasty looking purple lichtenberg scars asks. "You mean like, Adam's fiancee? I've never even met him."
Another version of himself, one wearing actual armor, just looks deeply confused. "What's a car?"
"Ditto," says another version of himself with bronze-colored eyes and a dusty cloak, "-what's a car."
"I helped steal a ship to break him out of Central Command," a version of himself in druid robes replies, "-does that count?"
Keith hums. Okay. So there's outliers, definitely. But most of the other versions of himself gathered in this strange place had most definitely raised their hands.
"So basically what you're saying is," and a way more Galra version of himself wearing the armor of one of Lotor's generals says this, "-maybe like 90% of us have at some point, stolen a vehicle belonging to Shiro."
"I never stole his car, but I did try to kill him," a version of himself who would otherwise look normal if not for the scar on his cheek that he hadn't gotten in his own universe until years later said, "-that counts for something, right?"
Two different versions of himself, one more Galra looking and clad in Blade armor, and the other more human dressed in orange and blue ask in tandem, "Wait, you tried to kill him!?"
"Yeah, sorry," a version of himself that looks more like a chimera raises a hand, "-I tried to kill him too. In my defense, I was fucked up on quintessence."
"Oh, ditto on the brainwashing," replies another version of himself wearing Blade armor, but looking more human than some of the others, "-also I was possessed at the time too?"
"...are you guys like, okay?" A version of himself that resembles Lotor a little too closely for anyone's comfort asks.
A lot of the other versions of himself simply reply no.
"Cool," Keith said, "-glad to know we're all kind of deeply fucked up."

voltron lionswap au (for instance pidge gets the red lion, hunk gets the green one, etc.) for the fic writer never have i ever?
While never in the traditional sense (no real changes to the backstory, just who becomes what Paladin), I’m actually in the process of writing a paladinswap/ageswap au (okay fine it was originally by @sabertoothwalrus but I’m writing it), in which Pidge is Black Paladin and also the Champion, Matt is her younger brother and the Green Paladin, and Shiro, in addition to being a somewhat bratty kid, is Red Paladin. (Hunk and Lance still have their same roles, but Keith is a prisoner) Also *spoilers* after Katie disappeared during the battle with Zarkon there’s another paladin swap, but it’s not like the canon paladin swap aside from Allura.
I also wrote a short fic that I guess could be considered a paladinswap au since it was was written before season 3 in which Pidge is the pilot of the red lion.
May not count, but I have an au in which Acxa is the Red Paladin.
Finally, while it isn’t writing, I do have a fourth paladinswap au (I have too many), this time also a species swap au. Basically, the Holt family is the royal Altean family, and when Zarkon attacked Altea they sent Matt, Coran, BaeBae, and the Black Lion to Arus but sent Katie to one of the planets the Alteans had colonized. She was knocked off course, and managed to avoid being annihilated with the citizens of that planet. Fast foward 10,000 years; Allura and Keith have been working together to find out what really happened to Shiro, Commander Alfor Brooks, and Allura’s cousin Romelle. After accidentally roping in Lance and Hunk as well as finding Shiro, Allura becomes Blue Paladin, Hunk Green, Keith Red, Lance Yellow, and Shiro Black. Also, Pidge has been a smuggler for the past few decaphebes, and may end up becoming Red Paladin.

Ylva and Aldri were cracking up as soon as they boarded. Illyere had politely tried to contain her laughter for all of twenty-seven tics. Shiro didn’t know if it was better or worse that the others were all too busy gaping while he and Coran fidgeted uncomfortably under the stares.
“It’s... different,” Allura finally managed in a strangled squeak.
“Holy. Hell.” Lance agreed.
Pidge and Keith just nodded.
Shiro awkwardly scratched at his neck, trying not to pull at the short beard that had sprouted there. Coran seemed equally at a loss without a mustache to pull at, having grown accustomed to the nervous habit. “Yeah... well...” Shiro mumbled, not really finding any words.
Were there any words for waking up after an explosion and finding yourself suddenly a lot older than someone who was supposed to be a lot older than you?
“Alright, alright,” Illyere said, finally getting herself under control. “Let’s give the fellows some room to adjust. We’ll meet back up for dinner and start brainstorming ideas on how to get this fixed, hm?”
“Sounds fair,” Coran murmured, clearly grateful for the chance to escape, and Shiro nodded, feeling much the same.

They’d both ended up retreating to the Old Paladins’ Lab for some quiet, but Shiro had forgotten that the droids’ were stationed there.
Evidently Coran had as well, given the way he’d jumped at the greeting. “Minor accident, Triad,” he said to the floating droid as she approached to peer at them through her camera lens. “There’s nothing to worry about. We’ll be back to normal soon.”
The lens ‘squinted’ as she circled around them. [Should I run full tests to be certain-]
“Smooshy?”
Triad squawked indignantly as the larger droid clumped over and pulled her away with a low whistle, then headed off somewhere deeper into the lab.
“Thank you,” Coran muttered, sinking into a chair, and Shiro followed suit with a sigh.
They just sat like that for a few minutes, letting the strain of the mission and the shock of the transformation finally ebb away.
Then Coran chuckled softly. “Never figured you for the bearded type. Makes you look rather distinguished, though.”
Shiro tilted his head slightly, grinning. “Even having seen all your cousins’ pictures, you in a ponytail is weird,” he said. Then he swallowed and leaned forward, reaching out to touch his partner’s face. “Can... Is it alright if I... see?”
Neither of them needed to elaborate on what he was asking, the ritual old and familiar. Coran slipped off his outer uniform coat, took a slow, deep breath, then gently released the masking transformation.
And Shiro was awed by how little changed. Only the three claw marks over his eye appeared, nothing else. “Wow... right after you became the royal guard, then.”
“So it would seem. And you?”
Shiro thought about it, and as he reached up to pull his own coat off, suddenly became aware of little pulls and catches in his body that he’d never felt before.
They were minor.
Small.
But he could feel that some of them should have been larger, and, judging by Coran’s deep frown, he could tell as well. “Guess it’s lucky we’ve got a healer on board again,” Shiro joked weakly.
“Guess so,” Coran murmured, but Shiro could see he was still deeply unhappy with the implications those scars carried.
They frightened him too.
Biting his lip, he reached out and squeezed his partner’s hand. “Hey... you’ll be with me for this, though, right?”
Coran’s expression softened. “Of course,” he said softly.

Actually I think it would be really funny if in the Pidge Keith ageswap, Keith thought Pidge was around the same age as him when they first met because you know. She's short. Even closer to Keith's age, she's definitely still short.

thinking about them again (the pidge and keith ageswap). incredibly scrappy 15 year old Keith whose foster dad Adam won't let him fuck off to the desert to follow weird energies and 18 year old Pidge who was already a cadet at the Garrison and didn't impulsively blow her chances at gathering intelligence by getting caught hacking into Iverson's computer... but you best believe she's spying on the Garrison.
Pidge old enough to have a handle on her own impulsivity. Keith young enough that he hasn't developed the faint amount of impulse control he has in canon. She has to drag this child out of Iverson's office when she catches him rooting around in his (physical) files. She only gets him to promise stop breaking in by swearing not to tell Adam and also agreeing that she'll share info with him.

actually the single funniest thing about the pidge and keith ageswap AU is Keith's inevitable two years on the back of a space whale with his mom. Everyone on the Castle has kind of just gotten used to him being this little scrap of a kid- he's shorter than Pidge, and she's the shortest almost adult they've ever seen! So much for those Galra genes.
And then he goes on a mission for the Blade of Marmora, and comes back like, two weeks later and he's nearly as tall as Lance. And also apparently because of funky time shenanigans, he's now eighteen. Lance and Hunk are having a crisis over baby Keith being the same age as them now. Pidge is having a crisis over being the SHORT one now.
Keith is... kind of enjoying this actually. He should have spent two years on the back of a space whale with his alien mom a long time ago.

also I've talked about how fun it would be if canon Keith and Shiro met roleswap Keith and Shiro, but let me just say. it would also be very funny if canon Keith and 15 year old Keith swapped places too. Can you imagine? All of a sudden, Keith is as short as Pidge and he's calling Shiro 'dad'. What the hell.
Meanwhile, in ageswap verse, Shiro suddenly has to deal with a nearly adult Keith to whom he is just an older brother figure. It feels a lot like he's been demoted somehow? Also Lance and Hunk are losing their minds because all of a sudden here's a version of Keith that's older than them. By a year, but still!

in the pidge keith ageswap, the first one Keith calls 'dad' is Shiro and it's entirely obvious that Adam is jealous about it, but is trying to play it cool. so Keith just looks him straight in the eyes and calls him 'Dadam'.
Adam: actually you know what. I think we should take Keith back.
Keith: too late, you've committed

cannot emphasize how small Keith is in the pidge keith ageswap. I mean. we know he was tiny at that age. we all saw him next to Shiro. but have you processed Keith at that age at that height in paladin armor yet? he is so fucking small.
lance, hunk & pidge all squinting at him after the half-galra reveal like... are you sure. i'm pretty sure the Galra are giants and Keith is well. tiny.
