Life

1.What region in Thedas were they born in? What was their hometown (and their home itself) like?

I'll admit i have not thought about the details of that much because it's just. Not That Important for them all things considered, and i wanna say it was p similar for both of them. Born Maybe near Amaranthine, maybe somewhere else and then moved there early? Then moved to Lothering in their early/mid teens when Bethany's magic manifested. Liam cared more about the move -- he gets attached to places, and change is harder for him to deal with.

Both villages were fairly small with tight-knit communities, and both of them socialised more than they probably should considering their family situation. I always imagine Hawke as a full on farmer country kid, but neither Leandra nor Malcom had any experience with that so i hc they only got one in Lothering, after they'd learned how farms Work lolol. The kids def still grew up around farmers and helping out in the neighbourhood as odd jobs before that though

Party

2. Which companions (or advisors) are they closest friends with? Who do they respect?

Liam - Varric and Fenris are his closest friends, and he and Bethany were very tight as well. Aveline is considered family in his books and she has an almost older sister type of status to him. He got along very well with Isabela too - until she left.

He cares for Merrill a great deal, but it was a bit rocky for a long time bc he'd project onto her after Bethany's death, and while he meant well, he did not notice when he was getting patronising. He eventually realises though, and they grow closer after that.

Lilian - She and Isabela hit it off instantly, and grow close very fast. Same can be said for Merrill, and they're a very tight trio. She gets on very well with Sebastian as well, and is on good terms with Fenris, whom she shares a mutual respect with. Anders she used to have a good deal of respect for, and, in some ways, still has, but it's. Complicated.

4. Are there any companions (or advisors) they don’t get along with? Have any of them ever left the party?

Liam - Sebastian is somebody he Does Not vibe with. They get on okay enough; they hang out with the same gang obviously, so they spend a lot of time together, and they know they have each others backs. But they never did grow super close, because Seb really grates on Liam's nerves, and vice versa. Needless to say, his reaction to sparing Anders did Not help better their relationship.

And speaking of Anders, that relationship was more strained than most of the others. Liam does consider him a friend, and he worried for and cared about Anders as much as the others, but they simply do not mesh well on a personal level. Liam got frustrated with how Anders talked to and about some of their friends, and was uncomfortable with his.. not advances, but the way he'd get so weirdly pissy and jealous about his love life? For a long time that was the main cause of friction between them. Then when Anders does his Secret Plans TM and lies to his face about it, that's what really drives a wedge between them, because it cuts Liam pretty deep to be used like that by someone who he considers a friend.

Lilian - she has a. Very Antagonistic relationship with Aveline. It started out as mutual respect, but once Lilian stopped being passive, they quickly butted heads.

Varric is a friend, but she has a hard time respecting him, and gets frustrated especially towards the later years in Kirkwall due to his refusal to pick a side, or have any proper Opinions or Principles. She gets why he is Like That, but that doesn't change that he needs to stop staying in limbo.

Anders also has a big It's Complicated label again oops. She respects him and his abilities, and they have very similar goals, but as it tends to be among people with visions, the details on that vary greatly, and therefore made them clash quite a bit. She also could not stand his attitude, as much as she sympathised with him, and was very vocal about that. which did Not help ease the tension. For her too his stunt towards the end was what did it, because trust is a Big Thing for her, so him breaking it, especially after uh. the Isabela Incident, was the last straw (heh). There are. Various reasons why she ended up executing him, ranging from anger to understanding to perceived duty.

7. How did their relationship progress? If they’re a canon romance option, is their story different from the way the game presents it?

Liam - The relationship actually progresses the same in both timelines! At least until the breakup lol.

They both make a strong first impression on each other, and while they are initially cautious about the other (mainly bc of the mage thing), they are never outright hostile and actually get on pretty well very early.

I always take Fenris's "you're handsome" comment as the romance initiation lol, in the sense that Liam's reaction was basically "wait, you think so?? 😳" and that's when they established that mutual interest Is There, but they wanted to wait and see how things worked out between them first. So it was a very, Very slow burn, but it was a deliberate slow burn xd

I do shift things around on the timeline a bit bc imo the story beats in the romance don't make sense as they are in canon lol, so the point when they Actually get together is not the same as the breakup, there is some time between that, and then the time between that and them making up is a lot shorter as well. Because there is no way that after years of establishing a close friendship they will just let that go unresolved for years. They also do not immediately get back together as a couple after making up, nor do they plan to. They're really mostly trying to sort things out together, and that is a process. And in general they just. Communicate a lot more than they do in the game hjfsksdf.

The getting back together part is the first time where it splits, cos it hinges on whether Liam stays closed of and Gets Worse or lets himself open up again to Actually Heal after uh. Everything. And that impacts all his relationships, but becomes the most apparent through Fenris imo (and no this is not bc of "he can't be happy without a romantic partner" or bs like that, the romance (or lack thereof) is an effect here, and not a cause). It's important in the way that Liam gives the position of a romantic partner a lot of weight, and without it is missing an anchor and a support, on top of Everything Else. But i am getting sidetracked now jflskds.

N e way, they do stay very close friends regardless, and are important to each other regardless, and they love each other either way.

Obviously it starts diverting more in the postgame era but this is already way longer than planned so imma leave it here x'D

👂 : Does your OC have an attractive voice?

I think she does. Most likely it wouldn't be something noticeable the first few times someone hears her speak, given that she tends to be very blunt with her speech, clipping sentences down to say the most possible with the fewest words she can. Not to mention her prickly attitude tends to lead her voice to sounding harsher. But in more relaxed moments when that tension isn't there, you can hear the warmth in it. She's got a lower pitched voice than you would expect, a lovely hummed murmur that gets delightfully husky if she's been laughing or had a bit to drink.

🚲 : Does your OC enjoy playing the field? Or are they more monogamy-minded?

I picked this replacement question because it's something that's been needling at me a lot lately ever since I brought up the possibility of an elf sandwich in the discord server lollll . Before and during the Blight, I don't think Revka is in a place to consider something like polyamory - hell she doesn't think that she's in a place to consider a relationship AT ALL, which makes her situation with Zevran difficult enough to navigate without the added complications of involving another person. I think that once the Blight is over and life (at least for a little while) settles down, she'd be more willing to discuss the possibilities of another person being involved with her and Zev. Most likely casually at first, a fact that Isabela will bemoan missing out on when she was in Denerim last. And it would have to be someone Revka is close and comfortable with in a platonic fashion, but I don't think she'd be ready for extra romantic entanglements between them at first, which I can't see Zevran arguing against. HOWEVER I see potential for this to change as well over time, especially if it involves someone the two have invited into their bed before who she cares quite a bit for. Hence why I'm toying with the idea of Fenris becoming a "friend to friend with benefits to 'uh oh there are feelings here now' to lovers" situation.

🔥 : What’s a surefire way to make your OC get flustered?

Look at her lol Revka is way too easy to get flustered, especially during the Blight. She is terrible at this whole flirting thing, and doesn't really know how to react to someone showing even the most basic interest in her. Poor girl has had her nose to the grindstone so long she has no concept of it. But some of the fastest, most effective things someone can get a rise out of her is with innuendo or suggestive wordplay - especially the sort that could be waved away as entirely innocent, but you know definitely isn't.

What is your total word count on AO3?

337,965 which... huh. That’s definitely a number??? Huh.

How often do you write?

At least once a week I’ll write SOMETHING (whether it makes it to publishing or not is another thing altogether), but I definitely get creativity, inspiration, and energy in bursts. So some weeks I’ll be writing every single day, some weeks not so much, but yeah on average probably at least once a week.

Do you have a routine for writing?

L O L  N O P E because the minute I try to establish a routine then I get into this mindset of like “oh the circumstances are not *right* for writing, the stars aren’t aligned, it’s not the right time of day, I’m not in the right place” etc. I do a lot of guerrilla writing, like I’ll have a gmail doc open on my phone on transit and I’ll be writing in rough dialogue and exposition while it’s fresh in my head. I have notes for different stories EVERYWHERE - on my phone, on my computer, in the backs of notebook, on scrap paper, it’s a mess. 

Do you have a favourite fic of yours?

Oh gosh that’s hard. Uh. THEY’RE LiKE MY CHILDREN I LOVE THEM ALL FOR DIFFERENT REASONS.

Heart Says Go is near and dear to me because of everything it represents and how long I’ve been working on it and how much of ME has gone into it. I feel like the Child, the Darkness Will Rise series (which I really need to continue) had some of my best dialogue and creative moments (like, the entire exchange between Fenris and Solas in this chapter I consider some of my best writing quite honestly). Also the entire gra-dilseacht-cairdeas series is just sweet because I love Mahanon so much.

You’ll Remember Me makes me cry every goddamn time so there’s that??

Your fic with the most kudos?

Heart Says Go only juuuuust beats out You’ll Remember Me, which I mean... it’s a long fic, so makes sense!

Anything you don’t like about your writing?

The phrase “undeniable heat.” More specifically, “(they) looked at (them) with undeniable heat.” I didn’t realize how often I used it until I reread things and I feel like that’s a phrase that should only be used ONCE (1) in anyone’s body of work.

On the whole I’m really critical of my writing - I think I get repetitive and my dialogue is noticeably stronger than my exposition. I’m also much better at writing emotion-based story arcs than like... plot-based story arcs if that makes sense. I also have a tendency of boiling down characters if I’ve been writing them for a while and missing nuances - way too easy to turn fully-fleshed and complex characters into stock characters if I’m not paying attention. Oh, and I keep writing my own life into shit which isn’t necessarily bad but I can definitely get way too self-indulgent at times and that’s when I do big block editing and cut a bunch of shit out.

Now something you do like (about your writing)?

I make emotions happen? That’s why I make anything, writing or music or otherwise. If I make people feel things then I’m happy, and sometimes the comments I get - especially ones from people who kind of get the place I’m writing from sometimes and say that I’ve helped them feel a thing that helps them (I’m not very coherent with all this sorry), then I’m happy. I get really excited when I come up to certain story beats that I feel strongly about, the ones that make me tear up to sad music on the SkyTrain because of the characters and what they’re going through, because I love seeing other people feel things about it too.

Also, sometimes I’m REALLY GOOD about planting and payoff. Sometimes. Not always.

What are your favourite kinks/tropes/pairing?

GONNA PUT THE REST UNDER A CUT FOR NSFW SO QUICKLY: IMMA TAG @therealmnemo, @lunaahawke, @motherfuckingnazgul, and ANY OTHER WRITERS WHO WANT TO DO THIS THING TO DO THE THING

Kinks: ........a lot. I mean a lot of the classics, with one or two less commonly seen in fanfic sadly (I mean I write Iron Bull ffs that should cover most of them) (also is it just me or is admitting having a bit of a tickling kink way more embarrassing than being like “bruh please rec me a good bdsm tease/denial fic with vibrating EVERYTHING and lots of ropes and chains” like idk maybe that’s just me). For writing, I love writing any semi-public “we gotta be quiet” scenario especially if it’s one just being a major dick to their definitely enjoying life but oh god why here why now partner (see: that one under-the-desk dorian/lavellan smut fic I wrote). 

Tropes: Is trauma recovery a trope??? Also MAJOR fan of hurt/comfort, friends waiting on the sidelines with popcorn while the idiots dance around their feelings, sentinel/guide (I’m legit writing a video essay on it because I love it so much and find the history FASCINATING), cuddling, sweet slightly naive sunshine folks and the people who’ll kill to protect them, head and the heart, all that fun shit. Also, frat!aus.

Pairing: Have You Heard The Good News About FenHawke? 

Though for real one of my favourite pairings to write for has been Marian and Isabela in HSG, i feel like I kind of Trojan Horse’d a complex and kind of personal love story about a relationship between two damaged people scared to really commit but trying their damnedest into a FenHawke coffeeshop au. Of all the pairings I’ve written, those two have felt the realest to me. 

Also, my fucking HEART for Bull, Dorian, and Mahanon - especially Bull and Mahanon, because I actually romanced Bull on my first run through DAI and I find their dynamic fucking fascinating?? But it’s just not complete without Dorian, I love him to death. All three of them. I could (and have) go on for DAYS.

I don't like giving the staff a hard time...

Again, I’m a super picky eater and only eat like 4 things... but I do like buffalo wings...

20. Halloween/Samhain or Solstice/Yule/Christmas: We don't really do holidays in my family anymore but god damn do I love Halloween.

21. Little too cold or little too hot: An average person’s body temp is about 98 degrees but I'm naturally always above that and I hate being hot so I have to go with a little too cold... however, the cold makes my joints hurt but I'm willing to put up with it.

Eh, I don’t really set goals for myself. It tends to backfire. So this is cool, this is whatever. I’m fine.

Did you take any writing risks this year?

Well, everything is kind of a risk. And this year was my very first time writing fanfic instead of original works. That felt like a huge damn risk, but I love it!

Also, writing A Mating of Souls was a risk because it is a literal trash train of tropes and cliches, but people seem to like it.

Do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year?

Nah. Just keep writing! Try to continue the trash train. Finish Vhenan. Did I tell you I’ve decided to split it into a sequel? Because I did. It’s gonna be gooooood.

Best story of the year?

According to me? To my AO3 stats? What? Whose biased opinion am I using?

According to me, Vhenan is the best. I have put SO MUCH WORK into it. I have a planning notebook (that I lost, replaced, then found) filled with all my ramblings and ideas and outline.

According to my stats? Let me check... Loading.... Still, Vhenan! Good.. The trash train doesn’t deserve to rival my masterpiece... Though it does have 3 more subscriptions than Vhenan, it trails pretty far behind in everything else.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

Oh damn... Well, honestly I’d have to go with all my stuff for my custom Hawke. My poor, neglected Alie... I’ve written so little for her...

Most fun story to write:

Shit... Well, I love one-shots. They’re such fun! I mean, I’ve only written 45 of them, so...

Honestly, I love Vhenan and A Mating of Souls equally and for very different reasons. The former is stimulating and interesting and difficult. The latter is an actual trash train that I write when I feel trashy, which is fun!

Story with the single sexiest moment:

Hard to say... There’s Happy Ending Massage for Kahlia Mahariel, which is literally just porn. Vhenan has a fair number of steamy scenes, and they’re all wonderful. I guess it depends on what kind of mood you’re in.

Sweetest story:

Craaaaap! Stop making me choose!

If you’re going for tragically sweet, that would be Come Back to me When it is Over or In Sleep. My poor, Kahlia, she hurts so much.

Personally, I have a thing for my story For a Smile, where Dorian tries to cheer Lyna up by making Solas look ridiculous.

I don’t have one? I’m glad to write just about anything. I guess I was mad that A Mating of Souls, the damn trash train, got recognition so fucking fast that it almost matched Vhenan in stats when it’s a fraction of the length and A LITERAL TRASH TRAIN.

Biggest surprise:

Well, Vhenan has this interesting habit of writing itself with no regard for what I want. Then there’s my modern AU one-shot, To Leave Another Life Behind. I don’t even do modern settings, like ever... I just can’t, for some reason. So that sort of shocked me.

🤲 - is your character better at receiving touch or giving it? under what circumstances?

Neira: Receiving - she does not mind being touched in most cases, but is much more shy about touching others

Kalagna: Neither really, but if it comes down to it then giving touch, because if she is okay with touching she's more likely to do it herself

Liam: Both - giving and receiving touch have pretty much the same boundaries for him. The exception are friends who he knows to be more averted to it since he will hold back more (ironically because of this Fenris is the person he is the most cautious to touch).

Lilian: Giving - she is completely comfortable both giving and receiving touch from people she is close with, but is still more likely to

June: Giving - generally she does not mind either, but depending on the circumstances she will shy away from being touched, while on the other hand she has no qualms touching others at all as long as they aren't explicitly uncomfortable with it

Arari: Receiving - he does not mind formal forms of touch but is much less likely to do it otherwise, either because he is unsure if it would be appropriate or he simply does not think it necessary. He does like physical affection more than it may seem though so he appreciates friendly touch from others.

🤛 - how does your character react to being hit? are they likely to continue a fight if someone else starts it, or try to de-escalate or get away?

Neira: Answered for her here before but essentially she will try to de-escalate it in most cases, except in situations where a fight would have been unavoidable (or at least 'favourable') anyways and where she will use their first strike as the opening for battle.

Kala: Don't hit her if you aren't ready to face the consequences. She won't go for the kill unless she deems in necessary but that does not mean it will be pretty

Liam: Runs on reflexes in these situations so expect to be hit before he takes a step back to see who hit him

Lilian: Will immediately react by trying to get the attacker in a nelson hold or otherwise incapacitate them if possible while assessing the situation and, if safe, question them. She is well aware that she is a main target for many people and will not take any chances

June: Very situational and will depend on whatever her kneejerk reaction is at that moment. Do not complain if you get end up getting blasted with a fireball.

Arari: Most likely to instinctively block and quickly assess the attacker and situation before acting any further. Will try to prevent further fighting if possible but won't shy away from fighting back either in necessary.
