Life Update beneath the cut!

The Creative Stuff first, for anyone looking for fic update info.

I will be traveling soon! When I return, I will have a few digimon fandom events to prep for (Koushiro Week, the 02 countdown, and Jyou week). I am not sure if I'll be able to get to all of these things, so apologies if it doesn't pan out.

I'm not sure what's going to happen next with my fics and the drawing series I have open. I usually have a schedule of updates and an idea of where I'm going, but right now, I need to focus on other things. I'll still be here, and I'll even be creating, but not with the intention of maintaining constant/consistent updates.

I also haven't decided what my Nanowrimo 2023 project will be, nor if I can even participate this year. I have a few ideas, including making a time-based goal for myself in November (ie, write for 45 min per day) instead of a word count goal (ie, write 1,667 words/day). That will remove the pressure, but keep me writing. But I don't know what project I'll work on.

Life Stuff

I'm not really sure what to write here, if I'm honest! Work remains stressful, my relationship with my mom is strained following all of that nonsense, and every day is a fight to scrape energy together. It's sad and wild to think that there were times I wanted to scrap the vacation I have coming up because of how stressed I am and how much work planning it is.

My husband and I have been talking about making some big life changes, namely the possibility of having a child. He's more into the idea than I am, bluntly. He's not pushing me, but for the first time, he's saying he wants one when I bring it up (I tend to ask how he's feeling about it once or twice per year, he has always said, "Maybe someday," now he's saying, "Yes, if you want a kid, too.")

I've always told my husband that I can't do a child and work. I can barely crawl through the days with just the job, and I am made to understand that children bring more work with far less sleep. My husband's job could support a three person family, although we will be sitting down to work all of that out before we make any plans.

Truthfully, I've never liked my career or found fulfillment from work. I'm interested in what I do, yes. But the stress of working in biopharma is unbelievable, and it does not play nicely with my anxiety disorder. I work for money- or, more accurately, for a sense of security. But I do have an active mind that requires exercise and feeding. My husband suggests that I try to become a novelist as I take care of our kid, if I don't want to work and have a kid. He works from home and can work whatever hours he feels like, so I wouldn't be alone.

Right now, we're in the "what if" discussions. I don't know, for me, I've never seen kids or family as a positive thing; my childhood was something I survived. My understanding is that some people from similar situations want to give the love/security they lacked to their own kid. But I can't fathom being a mom or having a kid around. My husband, in contrast, came from a healthy family and has no mood disorders.

He would be the best father in the world. I would love to give a kid such an amazing dad. Bluntly, I am not sure if they'd have a great mother, though. When asked if I want a kid, it's just like... How the heck would I know? How do I know if I want something I haven't experienced?

If anyone has been thinking of this stuff, I'd love to hear what you have to say! Parents, too. Just know that this is very much in the "maybe" area, lol, I am under zero pressure or duress. I just have no idea what I want.

Draw Me Closer

Characters: Yamato x Taichi (w/ Mimi, best supporting actress <3)

Summary: A club with bright lights and a flashy theme. Butterflies, idols, and dance pop. Yamato was suckered into setting foot in this scene, but whether he realized it or not, he knew there was only one reason to be drawn to it.

Notes: Dedicated to @pan-kuzu. This art. And this song. I was compelled.

Once again, Yamato found himself in a place he least expected to be in on a Saturday night. He stepped into the lobby in his black button up shirt and dark jeans and observed nothing out of the ordinary from the staff and other guests, though he was mentally prepared for whatever it was that would come next.

It came to him as no surprise when he turned toward Mimi when she called for him. Her outfit was simple, a light spaghetti strapped tank top and a mini skirt and she let her long, wavy tresses flow down. The only thing added was a pair of white embroidered gloves on her hands that were cut to reveal her fingers. When she twirled in excitement and gave him a big smile, Yamato couldn’t help but be reminded of a spritely fairy. If only Mimi had a headband and a pair of wings.

Except the wings in this case were attached behind the ears of the headphones. Mimi held two of them on her wrist, and a pair of black fingerless gloves in her other hand.

Yamato blinked at her, reluctant. What in the world did she talk him into this time? How silly was he going to look in this get up?

The staff called to them, signaling that the event was about to begin. Mimi glared at Yamato now, holding out her hands towards him. In the pressure of the moment, Yamato grabbed his pairs of headphones and gloves and put them on, then followed quickly behind Mimi as they went through the doors and into the darkened room.

Lights of blue, purple, and pink surrounded the room, where Yamato observed a large group of people wearing butterfly headphones of different colors and the same gloves on their hands. A young, female voice that he recognized announced her introduction as the night’s main performer and disc jockey through his headphones, and when he looked up towards the large screens elevated above he saw the virtual figure wearing her sleeveless collared top and mini skirt, her long twin tails of teal hanging on either side. The cheers from the crowd surrounded him as the music began to play.

So Mimi brought him to a Hatsune Miku-themed event. Yamato looked around for a few moments as he listened to the upbeat music in his ears and everyone around him began to dance, their butterfly headphones bobbing and waving around to the music. He had never been to a “silent disco” before, and he was intrigued at seeing dancing as they heard the same song in their ears.

Then, Miku gave a shout out to the dancers listening to the other station, to which there were less cheers. Curious, Yamato felt around the ear of his headphone to find a switch. When it clicked, a song of a different beat filled his ears along with the soaring sounds of an electric guitar. He dug this station already.

Mimi’s cheers were louder than the song in his headphones, and Yamato saw that she was dancing with Jou and Sora, whom he had expected to see, especially with Mimi’s talent to convince their circle of friends to go anywhere she asked. Yamato waved at the three of them and walked on, bobbing his head to the music. He also passed Koushiro who was sitting by himself, but Koushiro was paying no mind to anyone else as he listened to the music on his own.

When the next rock song began to play, Yamato recognized it and began to sing along. He continued to pass people by, scouring through the faces of the people dancing as a couple or in groups, hoping to find the face he was hoping to see. Yamato was surprised that this face had yet to show himself, especially when his hair was so easily spotted even in the densest crowd.

The music transitioned into a different song, though Yamato continued to sing. But the crowd of people seemed to part in front of him, and that was when his eyes caught onto a gaze of chocolate brown, his lips singing along to the same song.

Yamato stopped in his tracks, his lips parted in surprise. Taichi had stopped singing along, his expression appearing to match Yamato’s. Little did he know, Yamato found himself and Taichi making their way towards each other, and the flashing lights and surrounding people seemed to fade from view.

The butterfly earphones looked sillier on Taichi than Yamato thought they did on himself. Taichi even wore a disproportionately small top hat on the side of his head, which he admitted was not Mimi’s idea as Yamato had thought - Taichi thought it would fit the theme of the night.

Still, Taichi wore the black on blue shirt and jeans to complement. Taichi even wore a nice tie to go with it. The whole outfit worked too well. One of the things Yamato loved about Taichi was that he found a way to make himself look good even in offbeat situations, and Yamato found himself breathless.

When they stood face to face, eyes still locked on one another, Taichi smiled, singing to the lyrics sounding in Yamato’s ears. Yamato felt a chill on the back of his neck. That was another one of the things he loved about Taichi; aside from some pop songs that Yamato would kick him out of the room the moment he sang them, Taichi had the same taste in music as Yamato did, and he found it endearing to learn that Taichi sang along to a lot of the songs he did.

The more Taichi’s lips moved as he sang, the more Yamato yearned to be closer to him.

Yamato grabbed Taichi by the wrist and began to move for his new search. He waded his way through the sea of people with Taichi following closely behind, his eyes scanning for an ideal spot. In an area where the dancing crowd loosened, he spotted a place to go, and there he headed.

Turning a corner a few feet from the dance floor, Yamato found a small space where the strobing lights didn’t hit, away from the wandering eyes of his friends and from anyone else. He wasn’t in the mood to dance, anyway. It was a space for only him and Taichi, who stayed close behind Yamato the whole time. When Yamato turned around to face Taichi again, there was little space between him and the wall behind him. Taichi reached toward Yamato’s headphones and clicked the switch, changing the station back to Hatsune’s music. It was the type of music that Taichi annoyed Yamato to death with, but Yamato felt like he could tolerate this song, its pop beats with the piano playing the background. What was the song called? “Magnet”? Yamato didn’t want to bother with asking Taichi, not when their gazes remained fixed on each other.

Taichi wore a smirk this time, looking as though he knew exactly what Yamato wanted. Yamato moved closer, the rhythm of the bass and drums bumping in his ears, the beat of his heart pounding in his chest. He met Taichi’s fingers at the tips with one hand, and held Taichi’s chin with his thumb and forefinger of the other, their noses nearly touching.

Taichi had taught him not to frustrate himself with what drew them to each other. How they could clash in disagreements yet Yamato still wanted him around. How in one moment Yamato couldn’t stand him, but in the next he wanted to feel his touch. Yamato had learned to run with what he felt he wanted to do, and at that moment with the music swelling and feeling Taichi’s warm breath soft, Yamato closed his eyes and gently pressed his lips against Taichi.

Gawd, he loved those lips that kissed back. Those lips that kissed him so deliciously urging him to come back for more. Yamato kissed Taichi slowly, savoring the feeling of Taichi’s soft touch, his tongue brushing his own.

When Yamato let himself pull away, he only drew back to Taichi’s lips. Then, when he broke off the kiss, Taichi gave them only a few seconds to catch their breaths before he leaned in once again. They succumbed to each other, their arms wrapped around one another and holding each other tight with their bodies pressed together, like two magnets that were never meant to be apart.

An A.M.V. (Anime Music Video) that I created for this series over 10+ years ago. Originally debuted before 2010, made before I had watched any later spinoffs, as anything past "02" hadn't been made yet. This A.M.V. showcases various notable scenes from Adventure involving Taichi and Koushiro until specifically about midway through 02, to the end of the first story arc.

Taichi and Koushiro are featured major characters, with alternating Points-of-View, though Taichi's view towards Koushiro is also prominent here.

Song featured: "One Week", by Barenaked Ladies, which was also featured on the "Digimon: The Movie" O.S.T (Original Soundtrack) in the U.S. dub version; originally released in Japanese as three different Digimon movies. "Bokura no Wargame", or "Our War Game" also known as "Children's War Game" in the Japanese original version is also (very) briefly seen, though the focus is Adventure and 02.

Taichi Yagami & Koushiro{u} Izumi ~ featuring rp by @izzyizumi as Koushiro{u} + my now-ancient r.p. from 2012 era {I was playing Koushiro from original J.P.N version canon; Clearly the Tai{chi}-mun was using U.S. dub inspirations, but I was fine with that!}

The style is one in which starters are the characters talking to their "mun" or players, which is common when "voice-testing" a character to possibly app {apply} into a future {typically pan-fandom, or cross-canon across multiple fan-bases} DWrp {Dreamwidth.org} rp game. Games usually have their own settings, styles and rules and you should carefully consider them before applying to any. (I eventually ended up applying for Koushiro at a DigiAdv{s}-centric game that ended up eventually dying...)

I whited out a few parts to give the former Tai-mun a bit of privacy, but to my knowledge I haven't seen them as active since. Hopefully they won't mind me posting just one old thread between us, because it was really really fun to try back then! Even playing Koushiro was still really fun, despite it being for a very short timeframe of a couple years + even if I never found an active Taichi player {+in a close in age range} to me since.

This was BEFORE Tri had fully aired or before Kokuhaku was even announced, so Koushiro has a small mix of icons I'm using, but sometimes I switch between "canon-points" of early Adventure!Koushiro or late, OWG era or post-02 but pre-epilogue!Koushiro. Tri!Koushiro wasn't even animated more animatedly yet (and much later had very limited appearance in Saikai, etc.), so I was mainly relying on my head-canons for a Koushiro that appears between 2002 and the epilogue, but I often imagined Koushiro of those ages still sticking very close to both 02 and Tri looks. {I did like Tri giving Koushiro back slightly spikier hair, because that was how I imagined Koushiro during in-between years too.} Muns could later go back and update some icons, so some default icons may later change as well. {That's how a Tri!Taichi icon shows here even though it's 2k12}

Also, its very fun because you can personalize your responses even using things like subject headers way better than on this kind of site, and sometimes muns leave you really fun and kind messages that make you want to cry so you try to show them appreciation in turn!!!

Digimon Adventure (Blind Watch) - Episode 18

Holy limited animation, Batman! This was a rough watch. They used every trick in the book to squeeze out this episode. Extreme close ups with hidden mouths, tons of panning of still frames, and action obscured in the distance or entirely off screen. Unfortunately, that's just what you sign up for with these old shows with tons of episodes. The writing was pretty rushed too. It's like suddenly they're desperate to end this arc as soon as possible. The nicest thing I can say, is that there was some cool imagery here and there.

Digimon introduced: Tyrannomon, Piccolomon

Notes:

-This episode reminded me of the Teen Titans episode where Robin goes off to be trained by a martial arts master. Piccolomon's training grounds had that dojo vibe to it.

-Hard for me to hear "Piccolo" without thinking of DBZ. Apparently it's referencing the Italian word for "small," not the instrument (although I guess piccolos are called that because they're small lol). They changed his name to Piximon in the dub, because American kids are too dumb to handle Italian references I guess.

-This episode started off kinda strong with Kuwagamon jump scaring everyone, but then it went downhill from there. It's been awhile since we got a fight right at the beginning of an episode like that.

-Piccolomon randomly shows up to whip the kids into shape because they're "slacking off." How did he know that? Does he just watch the kids from behind his barrier? Did Gennai tell him?

-I'm not sure what the point of the river Styx imagery was? In fact, that whole scene was kind of weird, why does Piccolomon have the ability to send Taichi visions of his past? ~I guess it's just magic so whatever~

-The riding a bike metaphor was so poorly done lol. Taichi sees a younger version of himself fall off a bike and both him and Agumon instantly go "Ah yes, we can't let mistakes hold us back. I feel better now." Like I knew it was headed that way, but it would have been more effective if they thought about the issue for more than a millisecond. Speed running character development this episode.

-Both surprised and relieved to see Koushiro and Yamato get their crests simultaneously. It did feel kind of cheap and rushed, but I don't think we need to draw out this crest thing any longer. Not sure why Koushiro and Yamato were paired up in this instance. You'd think they would pair up the brothers...

-Tyrannomon is just a lazy reskin of Agumon. Like, they didn't even try. Plus we just saw Greymon fight Greymon a few episodes ago so the dino fighting felt redundant.

-There was some contrived explanation for why the other digimon (aside from Agumon) couldn't evolve this episode, something to do with Etemon's music. I don't remember that being a thing before? It felt very made up on the spot.

-I guess they've completed their training with Piccolomon because Agumon evolved? Doesn't really feel like they did much lol. Oh well.

bake sale

enlightenmonth // [day 21-24] sugar/spice Summary: Hikari is baking for her school’s bake sale and asked Koushiro to help finish before the night is over.

Heavy nonstop knocks on the front door alerted the girl in the kitchen. She wiped her hands on her apron as she approached the door. As she opened it, in front of her was a red haired boy, out of breath with his arm still up to continue knocking. “Hiya, Koushiro,” Hikari said with a smile and turned back toward the kitchen.

She giggled me and held up a bowl of mixed cookie dough. “There is a huge emergency! I totally forgot about my school bake sale tomorrow! I need an extra set of hands!”

He let out a long sigh and brought a hand to the bridge of his nose. “Are you kidding me? I thought it was serious!”

She gasped, bringing a hand to her chest. “It is serious! If I don’t have any baked goods to sell tomorrow, my kids will not be able to go on that field trip to see the ocean next month!”

Koushiro looked at her with a wide eyed gaze. “And what makes you think I can bake?”

“I don’t know, instincts?” She hummed, shrugging her shoulders. She took a whisk and continued to stir the dough in the bowl.

He trudged over to the kitchen and was in shock. It was an explosion of ingredients spread all over the counters and appliances. Countless bowls of mixtures and batters were ready to be baked into delicious desserts and pretty pastries. He gulped, at a loss of words on how he could solve this situation.

“Don’t just stand there, Koushiro! I really need your help! Start mixing the next ingredients for the brownies!” She gave him no time to think and threw him his own apron. She then started rolling the cookie dough onto the sheet and pouring the batter in the pan.

After hesitating for a minute, he reluctantly put on the apron, tied it around his waist and glanced at the cookbook for the brownie recipe. After mumbling to himself the exact measurements of cocoa powder and vanilla extract, he started precisely measuring.

“What are you doing?” Hikari turned to see Koushiro carefully and slowly poured each ingredient in the measuring cups. He was crouched down to have a closer look and had one eye open to see if it matched the desired measurements.

“What does it look like I’m doing? I’m helping you bake!”

“The measurements don’t have to be exact, Koushiro!”

“What do you mean? Of course they do! If they are not precise, it won’t turn out right!”

“Oh, nevermind! Switch jobs with me. You prepare and I’ll mix.” She handed him the bowl of batter, shooed him to where she was and scooted past him to change spots in the kitchen. She then started retrieving each ingredient with ease and mixed them in the new bowl.

Koushiro just stood there and watched for a second, wondering why she asked for help when she seemed to doing fine with or without him. He shook his head at his thoughts and started rolling the cookie dough into balls and placing them on the pan.

The two continued to bake all kinds of cookies, brownies and pastries, leaving behind scattered ingredients to put away and dirty dishes to clean. They even took time to add decorations on some cookies. Hikari made cute designs on her batch with ease. Koushiro on the other hand cautiously created designs on his batch, sticking his tongue out as he focused. She couldn’t help but smile at his hard work and dedication to make it look perfect.

When they finally had all the snacks baked and ready to be packaged, Hikari brought a hand to her chin, lost in thought. “What’s on your mind, Hikari?” Koushiro asked.

“I feel like we are missing something. Like one more sweet treat to make. Any ideas?” She asked.

He followed suit, bringing a hand to his chin and thinking long and hard about it. He analyzed the leftover ingredients to decide the next plan of action. “What about daifuku?”

“Daifu-who?”

“Daifuku. You know, a soft, tender, and chewy mochi rice cake enclosed in a creamy, sweet anko red bean paste filling.”

“You think we have everything for that?”

He nodded. “Yes, I think we do.”

She smiled wholeheartedly. “Okay, let’s do it!”

The two worked together on creating their last dessert. Hikari worked on making the filling and Koushiro worked on making the mocha wrapper. When they both had their task done, they started making the daifuku by wrapping the filling in the wrapper. For someone who clumsy baked the last few hours, Koushiro was making twice as many treats as Hikari. She couldn’t help but watch his small smile as he scooped out the filling, placed it on the wrappers and pinched the corners together to create the sweets. She assumed it was some sort of muscle memory.

Once they had all the goodies set up in bags to sell, Hikari made the two of them some celebratory tea. They sat together on each side of the kitchen table with the stack of snacks packed in boxes to take with in the morning.

“Thank you,” Hikari said, mug in hand. She softly blew in her brew before taking another sip.

“My pleasure,” he replied. “I wish you didn’t tell me it was an emergency. I would have come to help anyways.” He whispered that last part, hoping she didn’t hear.

“So, daifuku huh?” She asked, lips on the edge of the mug.

He coughed in his drink, caught off guard. “Yes?”

“How did you know to make that?”

“Uh,” he said, hesitating for a second. He looked down at his mug and rubbed his finger on the side as he thought. Then he chuckled. “I used to make it with my mom years ago. We would make it almost every weekend. I would love take some to school everyday to have in my lunch.” He never talked about his past, but when he mentioned it this time, he had a peaceful smile on his face.

“That’s sweet.” She giggled and reached over and placed her hand on his. He stopped rubbing his mug with his finger when he felt her touch. “I really mean it, Koushiro. I appreciate your help.”

His dark eyes met hers for a second. He held his breath, words wanting to escape his mind but too scared to. Before he could work up the courage to speak, the door handle rattled and a head of fluffy brown hair entered the house.

“Hey, what smells so good?” Taichi exclaimed, peeking his head into the kitchen. “Oh hey, Koushiro!”

Hikari quickly moved her hand away from Koushiro’s. “Hey, Taichi! We just finished baking treats for my bake sale tomorrow!”

“That’s awesome. Mind if I take some? I’m starving!” He asked. Before the two could answer, he snatched a goodie bag from the table and popped a daifuku in his mouth. “Mmm! This is so good! What is this?”

Koushiro kept his eyes at his cup of tea. “It’s daifuku.”

“Daifu-who?” Taichi asked, tilting his head.

Koushiro laughed at his reaction. “Exactly.”

Taichi shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t care what it’s called. It’s delicious!” And with that, left the room.

Koushiro nodded to his comment, taking it as a compliment, and looked over at the girl in front of him.

I feel like Digimon Adventure (2020) has wasted it’s potential. Sure, the story is new, creating new dynamics, but the characters... they are so meh. Okay, so Tai is pretty much the same, yay for him, but most of the other kids have been robbed of the traits that made them interesting, that made them feel like more than just 2D characters in a fictional world.

Sora doesn’t have her struggles with how she feels about love, her complex relationship with her mother’s overprotectiveness, coupled with her own sense of responsibility. Koushiro isn’t struggling with his sense of belonging (as much, there are tiny hints), his unresolved issues about being adopted and feeling like he doesn’t have a real home with the people he cares about. Mimi isn’t being dragged down and forced to see the horrors of war, she’s shown to be immediately bouncing back after terrible losses and conflicts, rather than having to find the inner strength to choose her own path and forge ahead on her own. Jou’s struggles with school do still exist, and his practical nature, but they don’t feel as solid as in the original, as much of an obstacle for him to overcome in accepting his place as a Digidestined. Takeru isn’t suffering from the need to prove himself, constantly feeling helpless and like he is constantly being babied, as from almost the moment he appears in the Digital World everyone knows he’s got the most powerful digimon, who also manages to unlock an armour evolution when he can’t immediately evolve back into Angemon. Hikari is...weirder in this. Does she have a personality at all besides blank curiosity and belief in Taichi? Maybe. I guess we’ll have to see. And Yamato, poor poor Yamato who has basically had the core of his character excised and then just... not replaced with anything else compelling. Yamato’s issues with his own worth and his responsibility for his brother, who he hardly gets to see due to his parents’ divorce, how he babies Takeru and treats him like he’s helpless, then coupled with Tai’s seeming competence as a leader and how he’s bonding with Takeru and treating him as more of an equal, sparking Yamato into a spiral of doubt and jealousy???? Now he’s just kinda stoic and strategic, and also blatantly supports Takeru being involved in their fight and taking risks, which okay, from the original would be great character development, but this version just jumps right into being okay with his tiny tiny brother being on the front lines in a war??

Also, not sure yet how this will pan out as the character has only just been (re)introduced, but Tailmon (or Gatomon, for the sake of nostalgia). She was the most interesting Digimon originally due to her being hatched and brought up separately, surrounded by the darkness and knowing that something inside herself was missing, but going along with what she’d been taught until Wizardmon finally helped set her on the right path.

Oh, also, Tai going crazy and this version’s take on the SkullGreymon idea was so weak. Tai wasn’t being reckless or careless or trying to use his power like a cudgel, forcing Agumon to evolve. It was in the heat of a very serious battle and their actions made sense, but were painted as being the ‘wrong’ actions because the plot needed them to seem that way?? Of course Agumon’s gonna go dinosaur crazy upon seeing Tai get eaten. It was weak.

All this good character stuff is gone, and what replaces it so far had been drab, boring, and always easily overcome. In the original series Yamato didn’t get over his issues until like, episode 53!! The characters really struggled with their issues, went through ups and downs, made mistakes, learned over time to fix them. I feel like these new takes are static, not growing or changing due to their situations, just bouncing from one problem to the next without anything really sticking to them. Nothing feels like it has any consequences and I don’t relate to what the kids are going through because it’s just a bunch of huge monster battles without any emotional context besides surviving.

Final thought: Also, how the actual fuck are the kids staying on their Digimon during all these attacks?? Pegasmon literally turns into a whirling vertical disc of death and Takeru is on his back the whole time and isn’t barfing afterwards like a kid who ate before riding the Gravitron???

koukari headcanons

＊ yes, koushiro came over to the yagami’s residence pretty often to play with taichi. although initially he was so shy, he then became the second son for being so close to all family members. he helped susumu to fix his computer whenever the man encountered a problem, he assisted yuuko with her weird experiments on the kitchen, and considerately asked hikari to join him and taichi to play (except if taichi didn’t want his lil sis to be involved in “the boys game”). even miko the cat started to grow fond of koushiro.

＊ on the contrary, every time taichi and hikari’s parents were going out, they would always drop the kids to izumi’s residence and ask for koushiro’s mother to look after them. hikari used to stare at the books collection inside koushiro’s room before she started to read them one by one. she never managed to read them all, of course, but she learned a lot.

＊ there was that one time when taichi had an important soccer practice so he dropped hikari to koushiro’s house, and it happened that his parents weren’t at home too so there were only the two of them. it was kind of awkward at first, but when they found out that kae forgot to prepare some meal, they teamed up to cook pancakes together. they were nervous about flipping the pan as they were afraid that the cake would slip away.

＊ they accidentally kissed when koushiro was on stand by in front of the computer and the younger kids came out from the screen as they got back from the digital world. hikari landed above koushiro and their lips met even just in a slight brush. however, they never really mentioned it after; koushiro was too shy, while hikari was trying to be oblivious and not making it a big deal as it was a coincidence.

＊ hikari always sent koushiro the picture of digimons they encountered from her camera. this helped koushiro to expand his data about digital world and to make an analysis of the digimons.

＊ hikari also created a photoblog and asked koushiro’s help to build the website for her, although she did the maintenance by herself. she sent him a chat if she encountered an error, but then the chats grew into small talks.

＊ koushiro regularly checked on hikari’s condition as he knew that she was seriously ill once.

＊ if taichi’s “missing”, hikari would always contact koushiro first, because she believed that taichi saw koushiro more often compared to yamato, as koushiro was his childhood friend.

＊ the hoi brothers once invited them back to hongkong and taichi—being a siscomp as always—was frantic because he couldn’t tag along. he, however, trusted koushiro to take care of hikari and seemed doing a pretty good job; even hikari was comfortable to fall asleep in his shoulder during the plane ride.

＊ they came back and gave each of their friends a very personalized gift depends on their likings—for example, a jade bracelet for mimi (yeah, remember the green bangles on mimi’s wrist in kizuna? they’re from koushiro and hikari) and mandarin hat for takeru (it was a joke—they actually bought a snapback too for him)

＊ hikari was the one who made the first move. koushiro was in the final year of high school, hikari was a freshman. on valentine’s day, koushiro got giri-choco (obligatory chocolates) from all girls in computer club (including miyako), and from sora, mimi, and hikari. koushiro ate the one from hikari during the club session, and miyako was there. she noticed that while daisuke, ken, iori, and takeru got ordinary handmade chocolates, koushiro got a matcha flavored one. excited, miyako was trying quite hard to convince her oblivious senpai that it might be a honmei-choco.

＊ they were so guarded in their first date at the zoo; it was as if they didn’t know each other for a long time. they managed to break the ice during the aquatic mammals show where they got splashed so they had to buy a new pair of t-shirts in the souvenir store. they happened to pick the same one—a panda-themed t-shirt—and they laughed about it. they went to see the giant bear and unconsciously gaped in unison because it was their first time to see a panda.

＊ their friends (especially mimi, miyako, and daisuke) were trying so hard to tail them on their first date. as a matter of fact, everyone was kind of surprised when they found out koushiro and hikari became a thing—everyone but taichi. unexpectedly, instead of getting fussy with his siscomp, taichi was quite relaxed. probably because he knew that koushiro was a capable man.

＊ as they were both not really cut out for sports, they usually went for a bike together (refer to hikari and her bike in 02 and tri, and koushiro’s taking his bike to a bookstore in 01). it wasn’t really a workout; more like a casual biking session, but they would always try to go as far as possible. this is also hikari’s way to keep koushiro’s in shape and for him to explore new places, using the excuse that she wanted to collect photos from different areas.

＊ their favorite kind of date: pet shop and tea houses. koushiro was a fan of oolong tea, but hikari made him trying different types of tea, be it an original or blended, for each of their dates. hikari always took a picture of the tea and had a special scrapbook where she pasted all the photos with the tea name. there were nearly fifty types now.

＊ at one point, they managed to walk while holding each other’s hands without being shy anymore. however, they never did anything beyond that—even a kiss on the lips was only one or two times. keeping their relationship pure before tying the knot was a sort of projection of their “insecurities”. in their humble opinion, if they became so intimate and unfortunately ended the relationship at some point, it would be awkward for them to stay as friends.

＊ but do you think their relationship would end? ;)

Unused Scene from The Spark of Dawn

I'm in the sharing mood...

I wrote this out years ago but given how far into the fic I am, I don't know where I would fit it in if I end up using it. But I'll share it, anyway.

Ships: Taiora & Mimato

Some Context: Taichi leads a pirate crew (Jou, Koushiro, Mimi, Yamato). Sora is an unofficial member, whether she likes it or not. I also wrote this after watching the 2nd Fantastic Beasts movie where Newt talks about Tina having salamander eyes.

“Sora…” Taichi said. “She commands my heart and makes it feel funny. She might be stealthy and invisible, but to me, she’s grand and majestic, and there is nothing like her across the sea. She’s like… a whale.”

Yamato sat up and stared. Koushiro, who had just appeared on deck, stopped in his tracks.

“A whale, Cap?” Yamato asked.

“Yeah. I don’t know how to explain it.”

Yamato and Koushiro exchanged glances, and looked as though they were holding in their laughter.

“You shouldn’t ever tell that to a woman.”

“Why not?” Taichi asked.

“It’s just not very nice. They won’t react to it well.”

“But I don’t mean any insult. I find it hard to believe, Yamato. I know! Go tell Mimi.”

Yamato’s eyes flashed. “I wouldn’t dare.”

“Come on! I really want to see what she thinks.”

“Can it, Taichi! I am not going to call Mimi a whale!”

They heard a gasp, and Mimi appeared from the bottom. The look of horror on her face, the tears springing in her eyes told them all that she heard Yamato.

“Oh, I knew I shouldn’t have eaten all that calamari!” she cried, turning back down to the bottom.

“No, no, no, Mimi, wait…” Yamato immediately jumped to his feet to follow right after her. It was then that Taichi registered that perhaps his idea of a compliment was not very flattering after all. He looked to Koushiro with guilt as he heard the crashing of pots and pans down below, joined by Mimi’s sobbing and Yamato’s consoling yells.

“You know how I can get with the calamari, I should listen to you more when you say not to eat so much!”

“That’s because you always tell me to tell you that, Mimi! I promise, you look beautiful!”

“Yeah, right! I look beautiful - I look like a whale!”

“Mimi…”

When dinner was served, it was quiet around the dining table. The feast Mimi had normally planned was cancelled, and all the courses were reduced to one plate of salad for each member of the crew. Taichi looked around the table to see Mimi sulking over her plate, Yamato staring daggers, Jou eyeing everyone with confusion, and Koushiro giving a nervous, apologetic smile.

Digimon Adventure 2020 Ep 14 Reaction

Hey! I’ve got a great idea! Let’s address the issue adjacent to Koushiro’s actual issue! THE KIDS WILL LOVE IT!

(I’m joking, this was a cute ep, but as always...)

Hahahaha, oh man! I am dying! This was such a fun episode, and I don’t really wanna throw shade at all, but ultimately... I think it fell a little flat by not quite addressing the concern I’d most want to hash out with wee baby 10-year-old Kou-chan.

But first! Some notes!

IKKAKUMON IS THE ABSOLUTE CUTEST SWEETHEART, I am literally here for Gomamon and Tentomon in the reboot. The humans? Sure, whatever. GIVE ME GOMAMON.

And I’m dying over Yamato and Gabumon. At first, I thought they really were scouting ahead a bit, although walking about two yards ahead doesn’t... help much (presumably, Ikkakumon can see father out because he’s tall). And then, in the end, when Jyou finally fell asleep and shut up... THEN Yamato hopped onto Ikkakumon!

I can’t even blame him, lol! I’ve never wanted to smack Jyou upside the head before, but his, “Hahaha, you don’t know what scouting means? WELL, as the oLdEsT, I will tell you!” Shut up, dude. I’mma smack! Smack! BAD SENPAI!

And I absolutely died at Togemon’s “COCONUT COUNTER!” And, “HEY, COME ON!” (or something like that) in English.

AND LET’S TALK ABOUT TENTOMON. Okay, so Ten-chan? He’s, like... He’s like??? A weird, supportive, loving... Osakan... uncle??? Which is to say that he’s like Tentomon, I guess, but I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. He’s getting the pulp beaten out of him and he’s 100% concerned about little Kou-chan’s sense of helplessness without his tablet. I love his energy and weirdness and kindness and... Just how much active attention he pays to Koushiro, all packed into a visually horrifying giant buggo. Absolutely wonderful.

But.

I dunno, this kinda reminds me of Saikai? Where I understood Taichi’s hesitation and concern about fighting in Tokyo from his first fight with Kuwagamon near Fuji Station... And then Saikai flashbacks to stills of the broken cell phone and streets like twelve times, and you consider making a drinking game of it, but decide that you want to live.

Panning to Koushiro looking at his tablet fifty times and having a helpless look was overkill, is what I’m saying. Like... I shouldn’t get bored/impatient with the setup while waiting for the payoff. I’ll give the Reboot more slack with this, because it’s aimed at children, whereas Tri was supposedly aimed at adults, but... Kids are smart, dude.

And I think the biggest sticking point is that... I absolutely want Kou-chan to know that he can think and act without the tablet. But what I really want to know is... Why is his self worth 100% pinned on how helpful he is to others? Like, this problem feels like step 0.5 in a fifty step program towards self confidence, lol! But hey, there’s plenty of episodes left!

I’m trying to think- I’m at that point where I’ve written so much Koushiro fanfics that I’m having trouble remembering what was canon... Have we ever truly dove into Koushiro’s self esteem issues? We’ve seen him blossom as the others come to trust and turn to him, explicitly starting with Taichi at the gate in Vamdemon’s castle. By 02, he’s the resident exposition man/original Chosen guru for the new kiddos. By Tri, he has his own fancy ass office and is making distortion goggles and a digital safe room for the digis. By Kizuna, he has his own company...

But does anyone ever tell him that he doesn’t have to stay up for three days straight, trying to help everyone alone in his office? Does anyone tell him that they’re worried about him? Like, I know Jyou comes by and cleans up and tells him to sleep, and Taichi has a single, “Don’t push so hard” line in the fourth film, but like...

I really, really want to see someone tell Koushiro, canonically, that they’d love him even if he couldn’t reason his way out of a paper bag.

Like, I’ve always admired and pointed out that Koushiro is so helpful, always, that he will always try to help if he’s just approached with basic respect- and often, he’s already working on something. I really love this about him! I just... Want someone to say, “Hey dude, I’m glad you’re here! You’re awesome because of [thing that isn’t Koushiro using his intelligence to be helpful].”

Instead, I’m getting, “Hey, you’re helpful even without the computer! Good job!” And clearly, this boosted Reboot Kou’s confidence, which I love! It’s a step in the right direction, and I shouldn’t even be complaining! This is literally one of those, “This isn’t exactly what I wanted to see, but objectively there is nothing wrong with it and it was good.” Ie, Hidden is being a baby!

But next time, Ten-chan, Taichi, instead of “You’re always helpful,” can’t we just say, “You’re always loved?” I know for a fact that they both love him already in the Reboot, especially Ten-chan.

BUT! Baby steps! There is so much series left! And in the meantime, FANFIC!

AND EVERYONE, YOU MATTER JUST FOR BEING YOU, NOT BECAUSE OF STUFF YOU CAN DO/HOW HELPFUL YOU CAN BE! I LOVE YOU! OKAY BYE!
