Why does your sims game look so much different than mine? Did you download mods to look different?

Yes I do use some lighting mods: sunblind by @softerhaze, Luumia's noGlo and noBlu, outofthedark by @lotharihoe, and my newest addition is NorthernSiberiaWinds' Better In-Game Lighting Mod. That plus gshade presets I use and some photoshop editing on top definitely makes a huge difference
