Random thought at 5 am that I MUST get out.

With Malleus hatching out of his egg, I get reminded of Shugo Chara. Like imagine he and Yuu are together and had a sleepover. Then after waking up, Yuu just randomly finds an egg (or more) from where they slept. Obv none of them know of Shugo Charas and would be like ????? Pretty sure Malleus had basic sex ed and knows how his kind reproduces but just imagine how he'd panic for second bc AN EGG JUST APPEARED UNDER YUU AFTER THEY SLEPT TOGETHER (at most they cuddled). Maybe holding hands while sleeping together does make babies? And this egg is small enough to come out of a human body....But they're not supposed to lay eggs. He's already planning to propose and stuff to take responsibility, even if the egg doesn't look like how draconian eggs usually do but Yuu does come from another world so things may differ a bit. Only it turms out it's not even an offspring but a manifestation of their personality or smth, I forgot it's been a while...

Diafamily was initially shocked and I can already hear Sebek's "HOW DARE YOU SEDUCE WAKA-SAMA AND PARTAKE IN INTIMATE ACTS BEFORE MARRIAGE?!?!?!?!" They'd be a bit worried for the both of them since they're still in school but at the end of the day they'll support them and just right before the news escalated nationally it hatched and everyone is slightly disappointed but also kind of relieved.

Other notes: What a doozy this is! I bought this as part of a stationery bundle from a Korean seller on eBay years ago, so long ago that I can't find the original listing anymore, so I don't have a lot of information on this. But from using my basic as hell Korean skills and Google translate, this is part 2 of an encyclopedia that was printed in South Korea, including character profiles and a episode guide for the second third of the first season.

I don't know if it's a Google Translate issue, but some characters seem to have different names; Nadeshiko is listed as 'Sia', Ikuto as 'Toma' and Yaya as 'Yui.' I thought SK had done away with giving anime characters Korean dub names by then (see YGO and Digimon for examples) by 2009, but it looks like I stand corrected.

As for the distributor, Dream Plus, I can't find a lot of information about them except that they do/did exist.

Okay but what if we *did* shrink Desmond. What if Desmond ended up in some kind of stasis/liminal space until The Right Time (ie whenever plot convenient), at which point the Apple cracked open like an egg and revealed a four inch tall, very much alive Desmond.

I don’t know why but I just imagined Desmond being a chibi similar to the Guardians from Shugo Chara and now I’m just imagining that Desmond can connect with someone he is related to by blood and impart to them the skills and knowledge he gained using the Animus.

It meant that connecting to him ensured that that person had access to Desmond’s memories, seeing them similar to a film but in a blink of an eye and they can only see what Desmond wants them to see (unless Desmond’s emotional state is unstable, then there’s a chance they will see whatever Desmond is thinking about without Desmond meaning to).

And because he was cracked from the Apple, effectively destroying it, the timeline needed to shift and make up for the ‘loss’ of an Apple.

How?

By making Desmond have access to the information stored in the Apple he cracked from.

And… its ‘defensive’ capabilities.

Which meant that Desmond had been turned into a POE/Animus/human hybrid of some kind.

Unorganized Notes:

Desmond doesn’t know that he has the Apple’s capabilities until the ‘user’ asks him questions he shouldn’t be able to answer.

For Altaïr, he ‘hatched’ after Altaïr used the Apple to calm down the people of Cyprus before they mobbed him. This gives us a chance for Altaïr to form his own ideas of what the Apple is and shatter it in front of him by hatching Desmond out of the blue. This also gives Desmond some time to freak out because Altaïr has to deal with the Templars in Cyprus so he can… sorta chill… sorta… before they return to Masyaf. (or, you know, he can join Altaïr and Maria on their ‘roadtrip afterwards instead)

For Ezio, Desmond hatched after Ezio finishing watching Minerva’s message (up to you if you wish to keep Minerva’s message the same or change it to reflect Desmond’s current situation). Desmond and Ezio could start to bond during the travel back to Monteriggioni and Desmond can warn Ezio about what’s to come as well. Maybe Desmond’s POE powers also reacts when the Papacy army looks like they’re about to (or when Cesare is about to kill Mario) to hammer in the ‘divine intervention’ subplot.

For Ratonhnhaké:ton, it would be funny if he hatched after Washington pushed the Apple to Ratonhnhaké:ton after the end of Tyranny of King Washington but that would mean that Washington would see him. My suggested alternative would be that Desmond hatched just as Ratonhnhaké:ton was about to throw the Apple to the sea and he heard the cracking so he opened the back just in time to see it hatched. Because Desmond seemed harmless and seemed to know him… Ratonhnhaké:ton doesn’t throw him and instead takes him back to the homestead to talk to him.

No Edward or Haytham because we’re not sure if they ever encountered an Apple.

However…

Ezio’s Apple that Desmond took from the vault and used is still with the Assassins. Its last known ‘location’ was with William Miles.

Does this mean that I’m suggesting he hatched during that time?

No.

Instead…

A thief steals the Apple while William Miles is busy in the Animus…

This thief takes the Apple and runs away.

Once he’s back in his own hideout, he hooks the Apple up in this contraption that looked like an cyberpunk eldritch horror with its many wires and monitors.

The entire machine whirls…

The Apple cracks.

And when Desmond hatched, he is greeted by a young man who looked so similar to him…

“Hello, Desmond Miles. My name is Elijah.”

man i was heartbroken when i learned kukai and utau are canon. i hadn't the faintest clue what naruto had in store for me

haruko did get slight changes to her original designs but it was like changing the color of her school sock trim to blue and giving her racer form proper gloves

she's important because during her creation I made a full switch to doing my own sketches. a lot of pictures with kokuto and tereza are lost forever because they were on deviantart bases and i deleted them in a fit of cringe. not everything stays on the internet forever. if you have my old base-based pictures to prove me wrong please let me have them

whats the first manga you ever read? and did you get it from the school library lmao

first manga i ever read was shugo chara, and no i did not. i bought it with my own money from kinokuniya while we were on vacation 😭 i wanted rozen maiden but i was happy to buy anything peach pit bc i was obsessed with them

before the big overseas manga crash circa 2010 manga was a little more affordable (i still buy ebooks but i only collect phys copies of stuff i know i already like and even then its rare)... i have that standard of price in mind so when i see current prices im like damn. i cannot be gambling on a series then hating it and being stuck with st that costs a fortune (relatively)

im not from a place that really has libraries like that also. we had a school library at the private school i attended and even thats rare. it was just a room thats the size of 1.5 classrooms with a lot of scholastic books. actually funny story in first grade i joined the library club and i borrowed exactly one book and took the entire year to give it back because uh. idk how to say this other than i was a very nd kid, i didnt even fucking read it i just got scared of giving it back late so i didnt give it back until i was told id have to pay for it and i didnt want my parents to get mad at me (they wouldnt have....probably? but you know)

but yeah. our public libraries barely exist in our lives...!!!

What I Liked

a great cast of main chars!!! the entire team of wonton insurgency makes me Feel for them, and all of the side chars have their own roles and relationships separate from the leads and i love them all so so much, tbh the platonic relationships in this wn are just as important as the romantic, and that's just so so rare in danmei

the ship itself: sweet gentle doting gong and free-spirited independent powerful shou, dong zheng and cui zuojing behave A Lot differently from tbbf's louchi but they. they lowkey give me louchi vibes. it's gotta be the gong/shou archetype the author went w, which is like... a criminally underused combo. when i say i want more louchi-like dynamics it's this kind of combo that i want.

dong zheng is sweet and gentle and so so sincere in his love, def not the possessive sort of ml. he knows cui zuojing has an agenda, has companions he holds dear, and he just... he just does his best, and he believes in his feelings and also cui zuojing's feelings. sigh i often pitied him in the beginning bc emotion-locked cui zuojing is lowkey a slag shou from a reader's perspective lmao.

i actually have a lot to say abt dong zheng. he's so cute. he's scared of ghosts and isn't afraid to admit it n to cling to cui zuojing. he has Feelings n expresses them straightforwardly, communicates like a mature adult would, y'know. and in the extras, when cui zuojing visits his apartment and sees how hard he's tried to make it homely and nice bc of his wish for a home... like, this guy is the kind of person who could prob live a relatively well-off life considering he's like. molded out of the "domineering ceo w sad childhood" trope except he actually grew up to be reasonable, but he prob wouldn't rly be truly happy until after he met cui zuojing.

and cui zuojing... he's also so interesting. have you ever wondered how someone who got isekai-ed will turn out after they return to the real world? he's basically childe who came out of the abyss. after spending "three years" in the pure white realm, the "real world" has become dull for him. he lives a lonely life after being cursed by "time" and goes back to the world he loves to fight against the fate he hates. he self-proclaims that his heart is too soft, and that's why he locks his feelings up so he can focus on the path of his revenge. love is prob not in the books for him, but he met dong zheng purely by chance, and from seeing him as a useless baggage, slowly grows to become teammates and then lovers. basically. i'm just glad they both met each other.

the worldbuilding... after the first box hamelin there was this description of the pure white realm that just rly captured the atmosphere and aesthetics and i just felt like i would rly rly like this wn then. tbh the entire story reads somewhat more like a shounen if that makes sense? it also lowkey gave me pandora hearts/shugo chara vibes

as a note abt that description of the pure white realm... wow i basically got chills when the description was reprised in the ending, but in wang que's pov as the new queen. while cui zuojing viewed the pure white realm as a returning pilgrim who saw the castle as the endpoint of his journey, wang que saw the realm from the castle, as a new queen. "this was the pure white realm he was familiar with"... and "this was her pure white realm".

it features a cameo from "kuroko tetsuya" which in itself elevates the wn a wee bit more just bc i love kurobas lmao

speaking of, it's p surprising that the cast is? multi-racial? n that everyone r portrayed well without being like super pro-chinese. like chiryuu nana is one of cui zuojing's og teammates (and even after she became the queen's lackey, it wasn't bc of some racist anti-jp sentiment but bc she was genuinely lonely and hopeless), allen is one of the wonton's og teammates n such!! a beloved char!!!!, both heinrich n beverly r fun, victor is ofc a staple, lillian is just chilling at fu zhe's castle, even the onsen proprietress kazama eri was just kinda infodumped as oh she's japanese but the author doesn't rly... go into the specifics of their goods and bads, they're just living in the pure white realm.

I CRIED AT THE ENDING i cried when wang que became queen n made dong linhai forget n when everyone had to leave i cried when victor decided to stay back and cui zuojing went back alone i cried when cui zuojing picked up a new cat who will accompany him in place of uncle im crying writing this afnsddskl

What I Disliked

didn't dig cerberus/fu zhe all that much like i know their story needs wrapping up but i rly wish there more extras on dongcui and not them esp as the last few extra chapters lmao

lowkey the emotional lock feels like forced drama on the topic of "does cui zuojing rly like dong zheng back" like duh ofc he does

some chapter transitions r rly wack, off the top of my head there was the bald soprano arc which just Started Happening n i was like wtf did i miss a chapter????

there r also some arcs that felt draggy altho i feel like it's less bc the subject isn't interesting n more of an "i dont rly care for this" problem (like the gambling abyss lmao didnot care abt cerberus's struggle unfort)

the...climax. or... uh, lack thereof. the final showdown w the queen was p anticlimactic lmao so much for cui zuojing's revenge??? like plotwise everything makes sense, i just wish the execution would've been more epic. tbh everything post fog village n meeting chiryuu nana felt quite rushed.

it's strange, sometimes finishing a good wn leaves me w an empty feeling of post-book depression but iwaol (yes i cantspell) leaves me feeling contented and satisfied and ready to read a new wn instead. not even in the sense of craving something to scratch an itch, it's just... the blissful afterglow of a well-crafted story, of seeing it to the end, of feeling glad that i came across this story and picked it up. it's satisfying is the best way to describe how i feel abt it. there r so many things i like abt iwaol, i'd prob just make separate posts as i go along.

30. What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?

Oh man that's a challenging question, haha.

If you would allow me to ramble a little:

In all honesty, I don't usually give my personal inspirations much thought.

A very straightforward answer I can give for that is manga and anime. Stories like Shugo Chara, Angelic Layer, and the works of Rumiko Takahashi (the mangaka of Inuyasha, Ramna 1/2, etc.) were likely what inspired me enough to become invested and passionate about drawing when I was much younger.

I was too young to appreciate things like storytelling or writing just yet, but I absolutely fell in love with the visuals and styles of these stories, and thus tried to copy them when I took to drawing on my own (which I wonder if there were other artists who got their start this way?).

I'd say that nowadays I am largely inspired by the One Punch Man manga, illustrated by the incredibly skilled Yusuke Murata (and don't forget about the original OPM webcomic by One because his storytelling, compositions, and fight scenes really slap!!)

I also take a loooot of inspiration from Blade of the Immortal manga by Hiroaki Samura, which I discovered last year and deeply desire the money to buy physical copies of all of the volumes because oh! The line work! The use of lines to show movement and impact! GOD THE FIGHT SCENES! (i love violence)

(manga in general tends not use color in their panels, being largely black and white, relying on line and shading techniques to show volume. that really speaks to me personally because I struggle with colors, but really really love crosshatching and messing with line weight.)

Now that I'm older and have made it a habit of sharing art online, I've found several, several, other artists to take inspiration from! Many of them whom I deeply admire because they all worked hard to get to where they are, and are continuing to work hard not only to improve but also because they themselves are in love with it!

That's such a cool thought.

Coming across several wonderful artists who happen to draw Hollow Knight fanart has definitely reignited my desire to make and improve on my own art because their passion and love for creating art--whether it be to reflect on an aspect of the story or to expand on an idea presented by the game--is deeply moving to me. (I will not name specifics, but if any of you are reading this: you are doing a fantastic job. You are wonderful and I admire you all so much. Keep doing what makes you happy)

I honestly relate to that issue; I’ve gotten closer to people and have expected/hoped that they might open up more. Obviously people are entitled to their own privacy but it does hurt and can make you feel like you’re not trusted, especially when the secret is clearly a weight on them, which can make you wonder if it’s your fault or if you did something.

Okay, hear me out: Hamefura magical girl/boy series. Fortune lover was a harem/magical girl anime that past life Katarina loved, but takes a walk with truck-kun, and gets reincarnated as the traitor character in the show. Deciding to stay as far away as possible from the magical girl stuff, she tries to live out her life as a normal girl, but in a strange turn of events, finds the magical creature, anne, and becomes a magical girl. Also Katarina becomes the leader instead of Maria.

That’s a really cool AU idea! A quick side track, I really do think that Fortune Lover could have been better of as an isekai into a novel/series rather than an otome game like what other japanese/korean otome isekais have done, considering how much extra content FL is getting in the series to extend the series (aka FL2 and an FL fanbook). Of course it’s perfectly fine as it is since it explains the harem aspect the best.

I really like your idea for the a Hamefura Magical Girl AU! Katarina becoming the new leader of a magical girl group would be a great subversion of the original material and is a perfect equivalent to her essentially becoming the new heroine of an otome game. 

Your idea of Anne being the partner familiar is so perfect I have no words, there’s a lot of series where the magical pet acts as kinda like a guide or tsukkomi for the magical girl so it really fits! I can even imagine some sort of heartwarming comparison between Fortune Lover and the current timeline where the original pet Anne is a normal magical guide who isn’t too personally involved with the girls and mostly just gives exposition and plot to the girls in the Fortune Lover series, but when Katarina becomes the leader she’s more outspoken and reprimanding, being more personally involved as she constantly need to help Katarina in getting her head together. 

I’d love to hear what you’re idea of OG!Katarina’s role in the Magical Girl AU would be. She could be like an evil magical girl that acts as one of the antagonists for the girls, but she can also be that archetype that every magical girl show has where there’s this spoiled rich girl who either arrogantly claims to be part of that magical girl group or belittles them as if she is somehow better than them. Or a combination where the spoiled rich girl is given a chance to transform but works for the villains because of her hatred of the heroes!

I personally haven’t watched or read many series where both male and female characters play the role of magical guardians of a country (unless its super sentai stuff) so it’s kinda hard for me to imagine what kind of roles the boys play in all of this. I’m just gonna assume/imagine something in the same vein as Shugo Chara when it comes to the range of magical heroes in Fortune Lover. 

There’s a Magical AU oneshot that reminds me a lot of this premise, so here’s a link if you haven’t already seen it.

Thinking about this is really fun! I’d love to maybe write my own ideas for a Magical Girl AU, but I’m not that well versed in Magical Girls/Boys ever since I grew out of them in my childhood so I know that there are lots more qualified to expand this AU more than me. I’d love to hear more ideas though and throw in my own dumb expansions and ideas hahaha!

sailor moon is still near and dear to my heart but having watched more magical girl anime now i think i like some of the others more simply for breaking out of the predictable format

this ranking has gotten long so under the cut!

princess tutu (2002) - tight story, amazing detail put into the dancing, lovely animation, compelling emotional stakes, and such a cool struggle of the characters trying to break out of the narrative roles assigned to them

cardcaptor sakura (1999) - tho the two story arcs echo each other, it doesn’t render the second arc banal, mostly because it didn’t reset character development. variety in episode structure allows for the show to focus on many different aspects and characters, and all the development feels natural. it gives the young characters just stepping into romance room to breathe. plus queer rep that is never questioned simply allowed to be 💯 bonus points for the explanation behind the many adorable outfits and poses she has. music is great. aside from a few less important eps, high quality animation is present throughout the series and two movies. there are like three teacher-student relationships in the background tho :\

sailor moon (1992) - first the bad: while the finales and some movies get me hyped, the many cookie-cutter episodes inbetween can get to be a bit of a slog. the reuse of the highly produced transformations and attacks in understandable but adds to the monotony. more static images than some other series contains is, again, understandable for the amount of episodes and the time it was produced. usagi’s development is often backtracked and she learns the same lesson again and again. i wish the all-consuming authority the ancient moon kingdom seemed to have was explored more and usagi’s self-sacrificial tendencies addressed. personally it took me awhile not to be pissed at luna for how she treats usagi in season 2 (but that’s a whole thing i won’t get into now) now for the good: the queer undertones are a major point in this series’ favor, throughout episodes and in Sailor Moon R: the Movie. in particular usagi’s bi-ness is ramped up from the manga. despite the backtracking, usagi is still a fun and relatable character, and the girls all have their own distinct personalities and fashion. the colors, music, and general tone always seem to hit. the OPs are also all pretty good. tho the occasional wonky face shows up, the drawing are ALWAYS full of charm however, the #1 best thing about sailor moon is its villains. they are always dynamic, and every group is different. some are family, some are power struggles between people apparently on the same side, some break away from the villainy and befriend the good guys. it’s always fascinating to see what they’ll do next

shugo chara (2007) - so many good characters! i always liked amu’s fashion and it’s pretty funny how atypical a magical girl protag she is. many magical girls put up a front like she does, but rather than the sunny mask to not worry people, hers is cool. and rather than her helping others open up, at first she’s the one who needs to open up. she continues working on being genuinely herself throughout the series the shugo chara are a great concept that allow for many fun designs. i love that the main characters’ reasons for their shugo chara aren’t surface-level. i appreciate that learning not to rely on their potential selves but actually work on BECOMING who they will be is addressed. it’s a story about growing up and it acknowledges that. plus i really like most of the costumes! (not amulet clover tho) ikuto and utau breaking away from the bad environment they’re in is 🥺 i actually enjoy this series overall very much, it’s not higher because the other series are just that good and are honestly more elegant. also i do like amu and ikuto but the 5 yr age difference......... why

i haven’t read tokyo mew mew recently enough to consider it on my list. i remember it was the first time i actually saw the potential in the rival love interest tho. and to be fair to sailor moon & shugo chara, i haven’t finished either anime (tho i read all of shugo chara before and have gotten thru 3.5 seasons of sailor moon. the circus arc is killing me man). i have also read the first “season” of the sailor moon manga, but haven’t watched sm crystal

i think i should reread full moon wo sagashite. i remember that it’s underrated and i was obsessed with the animal-themed shinagami

AN: I hope you enjoy, I wrote this in the thick of a micro-obsession oops

  “You’re a Cake, aren’t you?” Nagihiko asked with a wink of his eye. “I can tell. I’m a Fork. We just know these sorts of things.”

  His voice was light and airy, but Rima mustn’t have noticed.

  She stiffened. She held her school bag tightly. And she was suddenly jolted with zillions of regrets about coming to school early. She just wanted to do her homework in the library because the living room of her house felt too suffocating and she hadn’t expected that Nagihiko would be lurking around, like a stray cat, this early as well. Especially not on a Council meeting morning.

  She also didn’t expect that he might have a curiosity and especially one like that.

  Her nerves prickled. She swallowed and shot him the sharpest glare that she could muster.

  “Why does it matter to you?” Rima asked. “If its true or false.” She crossed her arms.

  “You can’t evade me. I can tell. The others mightn’t have the sixth sense because they’re normal, but I can.”

   It was supposed to be a secret but some people in this world were more predatory than others and Rima knew well she made for excellent prey. She was just disappointed that Nagihiko would play into the former when he knew how Rima hated that she was deemed the latter despite her better efforts. Her heart pounded as she remembered all those chiding warnings her mother had given her in the form of tall tales and lullabies and scary stories to keep her in her room after lights out.

  Rima, my baby, you are a Cake – just like me, she had spoken, singsong, and that means you are uniquely sweet.

  Rima glared. Why couldn’t fate have dealt her a different hand? Why couldn’t she be normal, a Plate, why couldn’t she be like him, apparently a Fork?

  Nagihiko was cunningly patient as he waited to provoke her further. His eyes glistened, like a dollop of honey off the spoon, poignant and tart. He was smiling. Slightly sharp in the corners of his mouth and then, after a pregnant pause, he spoke.

  “It matters to me because I’m curious as to what sort of Cake you are, Rima, dearest.” he said. “Whenever your around I get so… hungry. I have to stop myself from eating all the snacks at our meetings because you drive me that wild.”

  Rima swallowed. Her instinct was to hide. To run away and curl up into a ball because that made her feel safe but Nagihiko was her friend. If she said no, he would back off. After all, as they were now, they were standing a little bit away from each other, his hands were behind his back as he waited to match her pace slower than his own.

  “Then eat more at breakfast and lunch.” Rima told him with a derisive nod of her head.

  Nagihiko laughed. “You really are a comedian.” he replied. “I’ll be sure to do that.”

  “Good.” Rima murmured.

  “So, tell me, what should I eat to get a taste for you? Custard tarts? Rock cake biscuits?” Nagihiko asked and then began to guess, his eyes started to swirl with that hunger that Rima knew very well that only Forks had. “Do you know what taste like?” And as soon as Nagihiko asked that, it appeared he had some sort of revelation. His swirling eyes stopped only to go wide, and he gasped. “Is that why you’re like that?” he asked. “You’ve never been tasted before? You want to pretend that you’re not a Cake because if you haven’t been tasted, how could you ever know for certain?”

  Rima felt herself go hot under the round collar of her school uniform.

  Rima knew very well what she tasted like. Her Father, a Fork, had told her once or twice. His affection was rare and scant, but she took those few sweet words to heart because otherwise she would starve not knowing that he did, on some level, love her.

  And also? Rima wasn’t scared to know. She knew well that the world could be scary, no matter how pampered one was, and she if to be a Cake was her fate then so be it. She would turn that seeming weakness to strength because everyone was fascinated with the afflictions and the alignments, for better or worse.

  Rima marched up to Nagihiko, her eyes boring holes in him, and he blinked. He blinked again when Rima grabbed him by his jacket and she forced him to bend down, tugging on his clothes and that distance between them was now all but crumbs. She got up onto her tiptoes, and there was a ravenous look in her eyes that spooked Nagihiko; he could feel her breath on his mouth and he didn’t have to wait very long before Rima retaliated against his teasing.

  Rima kissed him and she kissed him with eyes closed. Nagihiko made a noise of surprise which was muffled by the feeling of Rima’s kiss. He kept his eyes wide open as Rima kissed him, hard, and tried to give him a good taste of exactly what sort of Cake that she knew she was.

  She was a caramel mud cake. She was sweet and dense with chocolate-hazelnut filling and shavings of pecans and desiccated coconut too. She was intense decadence and if Nagihiko wanted to know the full extent of how sweet she was.

  And she left Nagihiko gasping for air when she finally let up. “And now, you had better not starve, fool.” Rima told him. She readjusted how her school bag’s strap felt on her. “Now go forth and eat bread since you have already eaten Cake.”

  Nagihiko blinked.

  Rima huffed.

  Her lips tingled with the sensation of such a kiss. That was her first kiss and she had wasted it on something as hasty as this, but she found it strangely worthwhile. The feelings of it all had exploded inside of her and what she found in the aftermath was that she had most rightly shut Nagihiko and his comments up entirely. To say nothing of the fact that taking the lead, kissing, was nice. She understood better why adults seemed to fixate on it now.

  But with all her icing was scuffed but she hurried on. Rima had more important things to worry about like whether or not she would get an excellent grade on this upcoming assignment or not. She especially could not think of a more unimportant thing like worrying that Nagihiko did or did not like the taste of her status as Cake.

  Still, Nagihiko watched her walk off with his first kiss as well. Not even waiting around for the real joke which was that Nagihiko was as much as a Fork as his twin sister was his twin. That is to say not at all. He had just wanted to rile her up and he supposed he did manage that at least as he touched his lips, feeling softer than before, and his own heart racing.

Summon me to help you - Luktober Day 16

So I was looking for inspo for a Shugo Chara au and found @bklily Shugo Chara au and I couldn’t fit it into Adrien AUGust and I wanted to do something, so here we go, my attempt at a Shugo Chara thing in @lukacouffaineappreciation. Yeah, please enjoy. Summon

Luka strummed on his guitar, knowing the gentle tones was lulling his chara to sleep. When his phone buzzed next to him, he thought it was just Marinette, letting him know about a student council meeting the next day. He wasn’t expecting it to be from Adrien.

“Sass! Wake up!”

The scaled egg sitting on his amp shook as the chara let out a surprised yelp. The top half of the egg moved as his chara opened it, looking annoyed. “What is it?”

“Adrien texted me!”

“What? When? We have to go to him!”

Luka was already up, shoving his feet into his sneakers, barely waiting for the long haired chara to fly out from his egg and follow him. He tried to stay calm but he couldn’t. this wasn’t just some text from a friend. It was a summon from someone asking for help.

Adrien to most was Paris’ biggest teen model, a student at the same school Luka attended. But to Luka and the rest of the student council, Adrien was the holder of the Dumpty Key and their unwanted enemy. The school’s student council all had charas – living manifestations of a person’s would be self and dreams – and worked together to reverse X Eggs, corrupted chara eggs due to not believing in themselves or their dreams. Luka had only joined the group recently, after Sass had hatched and transformed with him and had only known Adrien from when they bumped into each other in the music room. He could always tell Adrien was stressed and hiding something whenever they talked and then he finally found out why.

Juleka’s own egg turned into an X Egg after a bad fight with their mother and he’d gone chasing after the egg. Adrien had suddenly appeared, looking like a cat, swiping the Egg from the air.

“Not the Embryo.”

“Adrien?” He asked, knowing he was confused.

The green eyes, so much more neon now, looked over at Sass. “So that’s why you joined the student council. I was hoping we could stay friends.”

Luka saw Adrien’s hand around the egg get tighter and he moved. He felt Sass activate his chara change and grabbed the lyre that appeared and strum it, letting the sound waves attack Adrien. His main focus was grabbing the Egg that slipped from his grasp, that he barely saw Adrien escaping.

Marinette explained it after she came and cleansed the Egg, leaving Juleka awake and moving again.

“I know it doesn’t look like it, but Adrien isn’t our enemy.”

“You’ll understand if I don’t totally believe that. He was about to destroy my sister’s Egg. Most kids don’t get a second chance.”

“Hear me out. Did you happen to notice a key on Adrien, maybe with the same design as this?” she asked, tugging and a Humpty Lock around her neck.

“Maybe? Why?”

“Adrien was the one who gave me the Lock in the first place. We were friends as kids. His mom would bring him to the bakery after shoots and with only Chloe as a friend, we became close. After he started coming to school with us, he seemed happier too. He gave me the Lock, saying that it and the Key meant that the wearers would always be close. Then, Adrien’s mom went missing and X Eggs started appearing more and more. Adrien told me his father was behind it.” He knew that Gabriel was behind the influx of Eggs they had to chase. He didn’t know Adrien knew that. “He asked me for help to get away from his dad, so he wouldn’t be forced to help, but something happened. I don’t have the full story, but Adrien went from a free roaming cat to a caged one. His dad is holding something over his head to keep him in line. He’s always asking for help to get away but we usually get there too late. His dad sinks his claws into him, tighter and tighter and soon, I think he’s gonna stop asking. His dad has sent others to try and take care of us, near killing us. If Adrien comes after us, he won’t go full force, allowing us to get away.”

It seemed like such a wild story, but thing was, he believed her. He’d heard the hurt and stress in Adrien’s heart, seen the way he looked at the student council, full of his friends and never approached them, how he kept to himself, like it was safer that way.

So he talked to Adrien. He wasn’t called to help most times with X Eggs, only if completely necessary, so he had a lot of time and he was stubborn, refusing to give in until Adrien talked to him. Eventually he broke down. Quite literally.

“I don’t want to do this.” He sobbed. “If it’s not the Embryo, I have to get rid of the Egg, but how can I do that knowing a person will have lost their chara forever? But if I don’t, he will and so much worse. I have to make the people who were my friends hate me and I can’t do anything about it!”

“Hey, listen to me, ok. When it gets too much, I want you to call me ok? Your dad knows Marinette has the Lock, so not her. Call me. I’m rarely in the fights, so he won’t ever suspect me. People deserve to have someone at their side. I’m a snake, just play your tune and I’ll be there.” He promised.

When he told Marinette, she looked happy, but also a bit jealous.

“I just wish I could be the one he went to, but he has someone and that’s all that matters. Who knows, maybe we can get him away after all.”

Adrien had disappeared from school a few days ago, with no word on what was going on. This was the first they’d heard from him. It was a short text, one word. Lyre. Luka’s weapon when fighting.

He went to the bridge where he had found Adrien holding his sister’s Egg. Curled up, in the middle of it and under what seemed like the only light, was Adrien. He was shivering, be it from the slightly cold weather or from silent tears, Luka didn’t know, but he walked quietly until he was in front of him.

“Adrien?”

“He tried….” tears, it was definitely tears. “He tried to inject X Egg energy into Plagg. He was going to hurt Plagg. Just for some stupid egg.”

Luka kneeled in front of Adrien, resting his hands on his knees, waiting for Adrien to lift his head up. “You summoned your snake. What do you want me to do?”

“Don’t make me go back, please don’t.” Adrien begged, Plagg’s egg held in his hands.

“I won’t. I promise. You’ll be safe, ok?” Adrien collapsed into his chest, sobbing and Luka held him tight, as if to protect him from the world.

Anyways, I’m glad we agree you’re doing a good job!!! And also yes domestic AUs are very very soothing, I love them. But yeah, that sounds about right- Pretty sure Chuuya’s dream in life is always to piss off Dazai as much as Dazai pisses him off. The both of them are naturals in that department. (Nyanon, 2/4)

You might have noticed by now that I post a ton of magical girl stuff, so I’d like to share the love by recommending some of the ones I like. Since a ton of people have already seen Sailor Moon and Madoka Magica, this list will focus on some lesser-known series.

Cardcaptor Sakura: An archeologist’s daughter finds a mysterious set of cards in a book on her father’s bookcase, but once she opens it, they disappear. These cards have mystical qualities and minds of their own, so it’s up to her to find them and learn to harness their power. Recommended for fashion buffs (has the most costumes out of any magical girl series), fans of rivals-to-lovers tropes, and wizard-type characters (since Sakura has a ton of spells at her disposal by the end)

Precure: The plot and characters change every season, so you can start whenever! It’s mainly about girls chosen to save fairy worlds alongside the human world, but it’s rarely as simple as that. Twists can include new characters, reformed villains, and even some tragic pasts. But two things remain constant: the Precure will always fight for love and happiness, and they’ll always dole it out with plenty of kicks and punches. Recommended for Power Rangers/Super Sentai fans, people who like martial arts movies, people who like close female friendships, and people who wish the Avengers stayed friends in the MCU (there are crossover movies with over 50 girls, so eat your heart out, Infinity War)

Shugo Chara: If you’ve ever felt like people don’t see you for who you really are, this is the anime for you. In this show, kids gain powers through eggs that contain sprite-like creatures formed from the people they really want to be. So transforming means showing your true self, which is extra hard for Amu, a fifth-grader with three eggs and no clue who she wants to be. (Relatable at any age.) Recommended for psychological types, people who don’t know what do with themselves, people who like magical boys, and people who crush on anime characters. (Seriously, I haven’t heard of anyone who hasn’t crushed on a Shugo Chara character at some point.)

Magic Knight Rayearth: From the authors of Cardcaptor Sakura, this story tells of three girls from different schools who find themselves trapped on an unknown world called Cefiro. Their mission seems fairly simple: fight the monsters, get new weapons, save the princess. But the twists are devastating—so much so that you may never look at a RPG the same way ever again. Recommended for RPG fans, isekai fans, and general sword-and-sorcery high fantasy fans. The manga is short but sweet, so it’s good for a quick fix.

Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne/Phantom Thief Jeanne: A mysterious young thief has been spotted in mansions and museums all over town, and all anyone knows about her is that the art she steals is instantly replaced by paintings of angels. But Jeanne, the thief, doesn’t do it for crime—she does it because she’s the reincarnation of Joan of Arc, tasked with exorcising demon-possessed paintings. Along with her rival/partner, Sinbad, she’s out to protect Japan from demons while she wrestles with her own—since her parents abandoned her when she was young. Recommended for fans of darker MGs, religious themes, heist stories, tragic backstories, and oddly enough, Miraculous Ladybug fans. (From what little I know of ML, Ladybug and Chat Noir remind me of Jeanne and Sinbad a lot.)

Tokyo Mew Mew: Aliens have come to invade Earth, not just because they want the land, but because they believe humans have been polluting it. To counter this threat, five girls are infused with the DNA of endangered animals and must find a way to protect the earth from both aliens and humans. Pretty simple, but also quite fun. Recommended for fans of ‘90s environmental cartoons, catgirls, more lighthearted superhero stories, and romance.

Mermaid Melody: Lucia is one of seven mermaid princesses who can use song-based attacks. In order to save the world’s oceans, she must find the other six princesses and rescue mermaids that the villains have captured, all while she slowly falls in love with a human boy. But, as she comes to discover, this love is fated to fail, since mermaids turn into sea foam after falling for humans. Recommended for fans of tragic romance, idol singers, and cheesy mermaid stories. (It’s not personally my thing, but I know plenty of people like cheesy mermaid stories.)

Wedding Peach: With its almost cloying cuteness, crazy costumes, and more, Wedding Peach isn’t for everyone. But it is, if nothing else, a guilty pleasure about the power of love. Momoko and her friends are reincarnated angels sent to Earth to protect love itself—as demons have recently begun to attack lovers and spread hatred. In the meantime, of course, the three angels must tackle their own fair share of love issues. Recommended for romance fans and lovers of wedding fashion.

Corrector Yui: I’m still working on this one, but the premise is gold—a fan of magical girl stories ends up transforming into one herself. The only problem is that, in her futuristic society, she’s a cyber-themed magical girl with no knowledge of the Internet or computers. Outdated but endearing. Recommended for fans of cyber settings and the good old fashioned “fighting villains inside the computer” plot.

Kamichama Karin: Karin is your ordinary magical girl ditz who’s going through a rough spot in her life until she meets two mysterious cousins, one of whom has a similar ring to one her mother gave her before her death. As fate should have it, these rings give their bearer the power of the Greek gods—and there are dark forces who want that power for themselves. Recommended for Greek mythology fans, Percy Jackson fans, and lovers of the jerk with a heart of gold romance trope.
