kyojuro rengoku x reader
Tumblr media
this is gonna be a little bitty bit edgy but only if you've seen the mugen train movie/read the manga teehee
rengoku is my most favorite hashira SOBS
also just so you all know, i'm an artist and i post on instagram @/deviant.daffodil :)
contains: fluff, a little sad but only in the context, mostly comfort fic, praise (ofc), "the morning after" kind of thing, very very slight nsfw
Tumblr media
The light from the rising sun peeks into Kyojuro's room of the hashira mansion. You rub your eyes. Your body was a little sore from the night you had with the flame hashira laying beside you. Your cheeks flush just thinking about his rough hands running up and down your skin and exploring every inch. You roll over to look at Rengoku. He was sound asleep, he's drooling and his mouth is wide open, allowing loud snores to escape him. He was far from a pretty sleeper, but you looked past that and smiled at his sleeping form. You curled up against his sleeping form. He was incredibly warm; you wondered if it had anything to do with his being the flame hashira, but that felt a little silly to you. Eyes still closed, Rengoku wrapped his arms around you.
Rengoku inhaled sharply before his eyes slowly open. He yawns, stretches, and he pulled you close. "Good morning," his sleepy voice was deep and startled you a little.
You gazed up into his eyes. "Good morning," you reply with a smile. He was set to head out on a train in a few days on a mission. People had been going missing on that train and he was to meet with a few younger demon slayers to kill the demons. The master said that the mission would be a longer one and you and Rengoku wanted to spend time together before he had to head out the next morning. "I'm going to miss you," you whisper under your breath.
Rengoku cups your cheek in your hand. "Do not worry my dear," his tone matches yours. "I will return soon enough." He kisses your forehead gently. "I love you."
Tears sting your eyes, but you manage to will them away. "I love you, too."
Rengoku smiled softly and you felt your heart melt. He has the most beautiful smile. "What would you like to do today? It is our last day together for a while. We can do what ever you like."
You sigh and wrap your legs around his. "We could just lay here," you mutter against his chest. He nods and rests his forehead on yours. You shut your eyes and pull the covers up under your chin, getting comfortable once again.
"You're so beautiful," Rengoku says, a little closer to his normal tone of voice. "I'm going to miss you so much. I'm going to miss kissing your beautiful face."
You giggle, starting to get sleepy once more. "Thank you, Kyojuro." His face warms. He liked when you call him by his first name.
He wasn't lying when he said he'd miss you. Ever mission he goes on he treats like his last. He's worried that one day you'd get a message from his crow that he had died in battle. He'd hate to do that to you. You meant every thing to him and he knew you'd be ruined if he didn't return. So he fights as hard as he can to ensure his return back to you.
Rengoku's body heat began to radiate against your bare skin. You began to feel yourself drift out of consciousness, sleep beginning to lure you back in. "Kyojuro," you muttered, sleep inching closer to your mind. "Please don't die," you cried softly.
Rengoku holds you tightly and kisses all over your face. "I will not leave you alone. I will not die."
You sniffle and nuzzle your face against his chest, tightening your legs' grip on his. "I love you," you mutter as you shut your eyes.
Rengoku could tell that sleep had over taken you once more. He sighed deeply. He was worried; he had a bad feeling about his upcoming mission. It is probably nothing, he thought as he drifted to sleep. Surely, he would be fine.. right?

Since the incident that happened with the Mugen Train, Kyojuro wondered how many days he had left. He hated thinking that way, but he couldn’t help but think about how he was always inches away from death. He just barely managed to avoid death that time, and now he was trying to heal so he could get right back to being the flame Hashira.
But something had been more pressing than that. Even though he lost his left eye and sustained some deep internal wounds, his love for you never faltered. He found himself thinking of not only his mother, but also you, during his final moments. Or at least, what Kyojuro had believed to be his last moments. And when he had bestowed his advice on the young Kamado, Kyojuro felt his life fading fast.
The one thing he hadn’t been expecting was to see your beautiful face as he felt his life slipping away. You weren’t happy though, no you were desperate. You began treatment on him immediately, using a potion from Shinobu. She had been the one to tell you that your lover had gone on to fight the demon plaguing the Mugen Train.
Tumblr media
The next thing Kyojuro remembers is waking up in the Butterfly Mansion. His whole body ached, he couldn’t see out of his left eye and he was tired. But he didn’t think he was going to make it out alive from that battle. He remembered the way young Kamado was so fed up with the way the demon had gotten away. He remembered the determination on your face too.
“Oh, you’re awake.” Shinobu comments as she enters the room. Kyojuro feels so disoriented.
“Mmm…yes.”
Shinobu begins taking his vitals, checking his healing. When she feels satisfied with the way things are going, she begins to change his bandages. While she’s taking care of him, Kyojuro inquires about your wellbeing and how things happened after he passed out from the bloodloss.
“You were so lucky she was there,” Shinobu finally says.
Kyojuro swallows hard, “I know that. I owe her my life.”
Shinobu leaves, telling him that lunch will be served momentarily. He lies in the bed, feeling a little better now that his bandages have been changed and that Shinobu had given him something for the pain. He thinks about you, wondering where you are.
The door opens and there you are. You look inside the room, worried about what you might find. You’ve been missing your lover. You worried day and night about him, unsure if you’d ever get to look at his beautiful face once more. You wondered if you’d ever hear the sound of his voice.
You rush over to him, tears in your eyes. He doesn’t even know what to say. He lets you crumble in his arms, and he lets you press kisses to his wounded and scarred face.
“Oh my flame…” you whisper. “I thought—I thought I was going to lose you.”
“Precious little flame,” Kyojuro murmurs back. “I am happy to see you again.”
You cup his face, careful not to put too much pressure on any of his wounds. Then you press your lips to his, savoring the way he tastes. You swore to yourself that you’d never forget this taste. You’d never forget the way he smells like scorched earth and bonfires. The way he’s always warm, even on cold nights. Tears cascade down your cheeks.
“I love you, Kyojuro. I never wanted you to go on that mission.”
Kyojuro chuckles, “You know that I needed to go. I’m a Hashira. I’m meant to protect the innocent.”
You cry even harder, making his face screw up in pain. He hates hearing you cry. He hates seeing you in pain like this. Kyojuro sits up and he gathers you up in his arms. Even if his bones and muscles scream out in pain, he doesn’t care. What matters most to him is to be able to hold you so close.
“I’m scared to lose my lover,”
Your words pierce his heart. He knows what it means to have this heavy burden placed on his shoulders. His father had quit being the Hashira because of the death of his mother. Kyojuro had watched the man crumble so quickly, taking up alcohol as a way to cope. He wonders if maybe you’d end up like that if you were to lose him.
“You won’t lose me. I promise,”
Tumblr media
The next few weeks consist of you helping Kyojuro return to the closest to normal as he can. He’s mostly been relieved of his duties as a Hashira for the time being. He’s healing up well, but something sits deep in his heart. He wonders if maybe you should find someone else.
Not only are you attending to his every need now, you’re just wasting your precious time with him. You could be happier with someone else. You could make someone very lucky. It hurts Kyojuro so deeply when he begins to imagine you with someone else.
Late at night when everyone has gone to sleep and you’re sleeping in his arms now that Shinobu has given the okay for this, Kyojuro admires your beauty. He admires your strength and your courage. Then he thinks about you marrying someone else. He’s no fool, he knew he should have perished in his last battle. He should have died.
Kyojuro cannot bring himself to even imagine making you his bride. The thought of turning you into such a young widow. It makes him ache so deep inside. He weeps silently, wishing things could be different for the both of you. He thinks about how he’s going to break things off with you. It’s what should happen. You could be so much happier.
The thing is, Kyojuro didn’t realize that you were so determined to keep him close to your heart. One day as the two of you are walking through the wisteria trees, you turn to face your lover.
“Kyo, you know that I absolutely adore you, correct?”
He smiles softly, “I do know this, my little flame.”
His jaw drops when he sees you kneeling in front of him. A beautiful silver band sits in your hands as you present to him this ring. It’s engraved with someone’s name on it, but he doesn’t recognize it.
“I know I shouldn’t be the one to do this.” You try to clarify. “It should be the man. But I love you, and I’m not about to lose you. Please…marry me.”
Kyojuro feels his stomach doing flips. He looks at the beautiful ring you have presented him. He looks at the sincerity in your eyes and it just breaks his heart. You deserve better than someone cracked and broken.
“My little flame,” he helps you to your feet. “I couldn’t…I shouldn’t…”
Your heart shatters at the response. It’s not at all what you were expecting. Tears began to well up in your eyes. You don’t know how to process the words that have just come from your lover.
“D-do you not…do you not love me?”
It was his turn for his heart to shatter. The thought of you even thinking he doesn’t love you was enough to make him tremble. Tears slide down his cheeks as he gathers you up in his arms. You try to squirm to get away, which makes him feel even more guilty.
“I do love you. I love you so much, I’d give you the moon and the stars if you asked it of me.” Kyojuro explains through sobbing and hiccuping. “I’d give you anything you want. I just think you deserve better than me. I’m broken and I’m not good enough for you.”
You shake your head in defiance. “Kyojuro, you are my heart and my soul. You are more than good enough for me.”
Then you cup his face in your hands. It’s been a while since his bandages have been taken off, but he still suffers from nerve damage and sensitivities. He shudders at your touch, loving the way your softness always comes through. He nuzzles his face in the palms of your hands, sighing.
“I am broken.” He finally manages to say. “You need someone who could make you happy.”
You scoff, “You are the one who makes me happy. You are the one I need.”
Kyojuro finally opens his eyes. The left one doesn’t work, only able to see grayscale in that one. He can see very vague shapes through it. But he knows what you look like from memory. Even if he lost his sight completely, he would still know the beauty and grace that has blessed you.
“I wouldn’t want you to regret it.”
You shake your head, “Marrying my lover would never be a regret.”
Tumblr media
The day fast approaches. Kyojuro wonders if he’ll look presentable for you. He knows that his father has allowed you and him to wear the family’s traditional wedding clothes, but he still feels like a complete failure to his family and to you.
“Kyojuro,” Shinjuro enters the room. “Are you prepared?”
Kyojuro is touched to see his father looking so well-groomed for the first time in what seems like forever. He smiles, tears filling his eyes once more. Shinjuro is shocked, but he feels this tenderness coming from his eldest son. Shinjuro approaches his son, smoothing down the folds in his garment.
“You will be a good husband. You are patient, caring, sweet and understanding. You have inherited the best qualities from me and your mother, just like your brother has.”
Kyojuro wipes his eyes, pulling on the eyepatch to cover the damaged eye. Shinjuro smiles sweetly, pressing a kiss to his son’s forehead. He doesn’t remember the last time he was this affectionate with Kyojuro. It feels so good to know his son has survived and is taking a good woman as his bride.
“You will be blessed. This I know.”
Kyojuro exits his dressing room and he’s guided towards the shrine that your marriage will take place in. Shinjuro guides him to the altar, and then he takes his spot off to the side.
All eyes are on you as you arrive. You walk down towards the altar, looking like an angel dressed in your all-white shiromuku. Kyojuro’s eyes widen when he sees you. You’re the most precious thing in his life, and here you are, walking towards him so you can get married.
The wedding officiant begins the ceremony which will join you and Kyojuro forever. You will be bound together.
Everyone is in tears by the time you two share a kiss. They have never witnessed such a wonderful union in their lives. All your friends are so happy for the both of you.
By the time the wedding is over, you know that you have no regrets. You have made the best choice for yourself. You adore Kyojuro and nothing could ever change that for you.
Tumblr media
Kyojuro had been worried that you wouldn’t want to be intimate with him. He had his doubts that you even saw him as attractive anymore. But every doubt and worry and insecurity was tossed out the window the minute you two were relaxing in the onsen in your honeymoon suite.
You straddled his lap gently, kissing him on the lips. Your hands caressed and massaged his muscles, making him feel aroused. His cock twitched to life with every single searing kiss you gave him.
Your tongues tangled together, swapping saliva. His breath feels hot on your skin whenever you pull away to breathe. Soft pleas fall from your reddened and swollen lips.
“I want you,” you purr. “I need to feel you.”
Kyojuro is shocked, but his heart skips a beat. He feels the way you touch him, and he knows you are being very truthful. With renewed strength, your husband picks you up and brings you over to the bed. He crawls on top of you, the lust and love written all over his face.
He kisses you passionately, cupping your face between his calloused hands. His nose rubs against yours, dragging down your cheek as he finds other places to kiss you. Your body feels so hot, so electrified. Every touch and every kiss is mesmerizing.
“You are so beautiful,” he breathes out as he kneads your breasts.
“As you are,” you compliment him. “You look just as beautiful as the day I met you.”
This makes his heart swell with love. Despite everything he was thinking before he married you, he can see that you adore him. You want the best for him, and you happen to be the absolute best for him.
You watch through half-lidded eyes as he suckles on your nipples, then he presses open-mouthed kisses down your body. Kyojuro lets out a growl when he spreads your thighs and he takes a greedy inhale of your scent. You are divine, intoxicating, sweet and musky. It’s all too much for him, he feels like he could lose himself completely to you.
He laps at you like a man who’s been in the desert for ages and you are his oasis. Your nectar dribbles on his lips and tongue, making him moan as he tastes you so fervently. Kyojuro expertly pulls two orgasms from you with just his mouth alone. Then he settles himself on his knees, ready to push into you.
The stretch is delicious and leaves you feeling full. He kisses away all your tears, praising you for taking him so well. Both of you are unable to last long now that you’re making love, and your orgasm makes him tumble over the edge quickly.
Soft kisses and whispered words of praise are what end the first night as a newlywed couple, and when you awake the next day, you see the man you adore in the shining light of the sun peeking through the curtains.
“Thank you for not giving up on me,” he says, his heart heavy with love.
You kiss his lips. “I’d never give up on you. Because you’ve never given up on me.”

i rewatched demon slayer bc why not, and i just thought about what the hashira's reactions would be if reader came back, after the mugen train mission, wearing rengoku's haori, just so they still had something of his they could keep with then after it all happened
just much longing & sadness, no cw come to mind. wc 378
Coming back home, beaten and battered and generally exhausted of tears, to a sickeningly silent garden and eight uncharacteristically quiet soldiers.
I don't picture any crying-- Tengen weeps openly only at home with the comfort of privacy-- but it's generally more difficult to keep emotions steady when everyone is all together. It would be easier for Sanemi to feign arrogance if Obanai hadn't almost slipped from his tree. It would be more difficult to ignore the sound of Mitsuri's heart breaking the earth in two if they couldn't all see the horrible dim of her twinkling eyes-- if everyone wasn't so painfully aware that Kyojuro was her big brother.
Rage settles familiar in the veins of Shinobu's fist. If she were alone in her lab she would be allowed to break something but now she's forced into a bow in the presence of her master ubuyashiki so she rips up grass instead. Giyuu notices curiously beside her and feels cold.
At some point in the silence the group collectively remembers your love and when their heads turn to you, you have to bunch up the tattered haori in your fists to keep from falling apart in the azaleas. You've been so strong until now. You delivered his tsuguko to the butterfly mansion, penned a letter to his father, tended your wounds, dug a grave, bore his cape like a cross so that his friends could be with him again.
When Tengen asks if you're hurt, all that strength dissolves and it's a miracle you even managed to walk to the garden on your own two legs for how bad a job they're doing keeping you upright now. Hot stinging tears, a hand on your back, the smell of fire.
You brought it back for them but the only thing that makes sense to every person in the garden that his haori belongs to you. That Kyo would have liked, very much, to belong to you. With a bow, you're allowed to take your leave.
I know that we see each hashira's separate reaction to kyo's death at the end of mugen t. through their crows' letters, but the image of his comrade from that mission delivering the news in person is so brutal nonnie :,( especially carrying the remnants of his uniform oh i die

Therapy hashira rengoku au GO
So Rengoku is the therapy dog of the hashira, send post. Ubuyashiki totally asks him to visit any of the hashira who are sick or injured.
inadvertently, this is how rengiyuu happens :p
alternately: Kyo gets sick or something (or after Mugen train???) and uhhhhh who do you send to be the therapy dog for the therapy dog???? And while the hashira are trying to decide, Giyuu just. Goes over. With a basket of sweet potatoes.
(He’s polite!!!! Remember when he helped Mitsuri up??? He thinks he’s doing the bare minimum but the jokes on him because Kyojuro is touch starved and likes having friends adopting introverts)
Senjuro is probably away at school and Shinjuro isn’t doing shit, so Giyuu hesitantly sets up camp in the guest room. One night Kyo’s fever gets really high and he’s so delirious that he’s crying (not even like as an action, just frozen with illness and tears streaming down his face) and Giyuu gets SO scared and actually distressed, genuinely sad because he really doesn’t like seeing the happy hashira so sick he can’t walk and is sweating through his clothes and is crying waterfalls just from the pain and delirium. he probably ends up calling Shinobu to help, and just does everything he can to keep him comfy until it breaks.
Maybe…..bath???? Baths are good when you’re sick. Rengoku insists he’s fine, but Giyuu doesn’t even make it out of the room before he hears a splash and has to become a registered lifeguard. After that he keeps rengoku company by either sitting next to the tub and just helping him in and out, or he washes his hair for him on days he’s particularly weak
Goodness, I’m such a fan of Tomioka defending the brothers from Shinjuro tho. Can you imagine the horror of Giyuu visiting the rengoku’s because he heard Kyojuro was injured and finding out it’s from his dad, not a demon??? Like if Shinjuro had ever hit Kyojuro, Kyo probably just blocks him from landing hits after the first throw, he doesn’t attack back unless absolutely necessary. But, I’m Imagining this: scenario 1) Kyojuro occasionally gets into physical altercations with his father (most he can defend himself long enough to get away, others his father gets the advantage) but doesn’t tell anyone because he’s trying to protect Senjuro; only to be there in that one episode when Tanjiro shows up to check on him and Kyo actually witnesses his father strike Senjuro and. White screens. Because it’s devastating!!! He thought he’d been protecting his brother and he wasn’t!!!! And his brother didn’t tell him, for whatever reason!!!!! Maybe they both didn’t know that the other was getting hurt as well??
Scenario 2) both brothers get hurt, and both know about the other, and whenever Kyo has a long mission he begs Kocho or Mitsuri or Obanai to check in on his brother (they don’t need convincing). So then when Kyo is sick he’s not getting directly hurt by his dad (just left sick and neglected I fucking guess) but he can’t defend Senjuro so when Giyuu starts staying with them (and I’m imagining in this particular scenario he and Kyojuro are properly infatuated with each other, and know how the other feels, but maybe they haven’t labeled anything or told anyone) he becomes the one dealing with Shinjuro
Now!!!! This can go two main ways:
1) Giyuu holds his own against Shinjuro and either guard-dogs the hell out of the brothers while he’s there or whisks them away to the water estate
2) Giyuu holds his own, but still gets pretty beat up and is willing to deal with that to help the brothers but Kyojuro can’t stand being helpless while his lover tries to defend them from his own father and gets hurt
3) Giyuu barely holds his own, gets beat up so bad, but ignores it/doesn’t mention it to Kyojuro because he doesn’t want him to worry (like Giyuu is strong, he’s not going to die but a punch is still a punch you know) (or, also bad, what if Shinjuro became like a creep towards Giyuu because he’s a new target and isn’t family and Giyuu just ‘lets him’ be horrible to him rather than resisting him (super angst). Imagine after weeks of it, Kyo waking up and seeing Giyuu bandaging his arm from broken glass cuts, or noticed how Giyuu’s body language around Shinjuro goes from dislike to despise to defeated. Imagine Kyojuro seeing scratches on Giyuu and asking what happened but to no answer. Even worse, imagine if Kyo walked in on Shinjuro either beating Giyuu or saying some really fucked up shit or both, and THAT ANGST.
Let’s say Kyo goes to visit Shinobu to get the all clear. He returns home, finding chaos, Tanjiro and Senjuro running up to him freaking out. Tanjiro is beat up (he was trying to defend Senjuro and Giyuu) and Senjuro is crying hysterically about how he wasn’t supposed to tell but he’s scared their dad is going to kill Tomioka. Kyo kicks down the door to see his lover and his father, his father with one hand around Tomioka’s neck, the other pouring sake on him just to be a dick, Tomioka with his yukata loose, revealing injuries and marks, with a small blade in his hand just managing to hold the former hashira back.
Imagjne Kyo snapping, moving faster than light to sweep Giyuu into his arms and rush them all away to the butterfly mansion. Kocho treats the kids first, and so Kyojuro just starts cleaning Giyuu up and begs him to tel him why he let this happen to himself.
Giyuu asks him, irritated, ‘why did you?’
Like Kyojuro was used to letting his dad hurt him so he would hurt Senjuro less, but he can’t stand Giyuu dealing with THIS for the same reason
Giyuu is like ‘look man. I’m strong. I can take it. I want you to be safe’ and Kyojuro is having a conniption like ‘Giyuu this is never what I would want or expect you to put up with and you know that’
Giyuu ‘it’s been a week. How long have you and Senjuro been dealing with your father for the sake of the other? Do you think Senjuro and Tanjiro and I like seeing you deal with your father for Senjuro’s sake? Just because you want to protect the weak doesn’t mean you have to be the one getting hurt instead’
*Lightbulb*
Kyojuro reluctantly understands but tells Giyuu he won’t allow him to stay with them if he’s going to risk himself like this, to which Giyuu relies, ‘you do realize you can move in with me’
Kyo is affronted, like he would feel so guilty, but Giyuu convinced him and they smooch and stuff and yeah fuck Shinjuro

One thing before we start, let's say what is a story what could be the continuation of a fic I wrote earlier on my old account) (In this AU, Rengoku lives)
Warning: This fanfic contains tickles. Also remind them that I don't speak English, so if they find any errors, let me know to correct it. I hope you like it!
Ler: Kyojuro Rengoku
Lee: Tanjiro Kamado
'Rengoku - San...' 'What happened young Kamado?' 'I'm sorry...', Rengoku frowned, it was the 5th time today that Tanjiro had apologized to him, they had already talked to him before, but apparently the young man's guilt made it impossible for him to remember.
'Young Kamado, I've said it and I've said it again, it's not your fault!' 'I should have been of more use... You almost died because of me' 'If you or any of the passengers had died, I definitely wouldn't have fulfilled my duty as a hashira. This is a normal day for us, it's not your fault!' Tanjiro put down his cup and covered his face, wanting to avoid crying.
'Mmmmm.. I see! Apparently you need another support!' 'Huh? What are you talking about-? Ehehehe! Rehehengoku-San! Wahahait!', Tanjiro tried to escape from the fingers that poked at his ribs, but one of his wrists was grabbed and he was dragged to Rengoku's side, at least he tried.
'You remind me a lot of Senjuro! He also behaves just like you!' 'Hehehey! You should rest! Stohohohop!' 'Already? But I've only just begun!' Tanjiro seized the only opportunity he got, squeezing Rengoku's runs.
'Wa!', a very serious mistake... Tanjiro
'HEHEHEHEY!!! I'M SOHOHOHORRY!!! REHEHENGOKU-SAN!! NOHOHOHO!!' 'I try to cheer you up and you reject my noble effort?! That wasn't very proper young Kamado, I should teach him some lessons!' Rengoku climbed up Tanjiro's armpits, where he kept his fingers steady as they mercilessly attacked the younger man.
'I said it before! You are equal to Senjuro! He laughs like that when I tickle his armpits! How cute!' '*snort* I'M NOHOHOT CUHUHUTEE!! MEHEHERCY!!!', Rengoku frowned again.
'Aren't you cute?! Of course you are! Listen you snorts and that cute blush you have!' Rengoku was yelling more than usual, he had to if he wanted to be heard through Tanjiro's yelling and laughing.
'STAHAHAHAP!!! I CAHAHAHAN'T!! NO MORE!!!' 'I'll stop! Only if you promise to stop feeling guilty!'
'OK OK! WHATEVER!! I PROHOHOMISE!!'
'Pinky promise?'
'REHEHEHENGOKU - SAHAHAHAN!!!', he finally let go, Tanjiro fell onto his chest, exhausted
'I hope you have had an experience young Kamado! I will never allow those I love to be sad!', Rengoku laughed before lowering his voice when he realized that Tanjiro had fallen asleep from exhaustion, well, I guess he would be sitting a while longer

i finally finished it so... more fits meets post-mugen hashira au under the cut! owo
it uh..... it gets a bit sad though....... uvu
They were Hashiras. Their names were Hashibira Inosuke, Agatsuma Zenitsu and Kamado Tanjirou. They were twenty-one and they were Hashiras.
The three Hashiras calmly sipped from their teacups as the younger Demon Slayers ruminated over the new information.
The four teenagers shared puzzled looks. There were a lot of questions.
Why were they older? Why did they end up here?
And… if they were Tanjirou, Zenitsu and Inosuke, where was the other Ayame?
Ayame had a feeling she might know the answer, but she was only guessing at this point.
It was lucky that there was a Wisteria House nearby. The Hashiras had made their way over as if they already knew it existed, although they seemed confused when they saw the owner. Ayame, Tanjirou, Zenitsu and Inosuke had never been to this particular Wisteria House, so they didn’t understand why the three men had shared that look.
“Er, right,” Tanjirou said, breaking the silence. He caught Ayame’s eye and grimaced. “Well… ano… what do we do now?”
That was… a really good question.
“I guess we could go to the Butterfly Estate,” she suggested. “Shinobu-san might know what to do.” And even if the Insect Hashira didn’t, at least she could offer suggestions.
“Shinobu-chan?” Hashira-Zenitsu uttered, eyes wide. “What happened to Kanao?!”
“Nothing…?" Ayame answered cautiously. "Kanao-chan is Shinobu-san’s tsuguko.”
“EH?!”
Ayame lifted her teacup to her lips so she didn’t say anything else that seemed to shock all three men. Or, well, it seemed to shock Hashira-Zenitsu and Hashira-Inosuke. Hashira-Tanjirou just kept looking at her, which was making her a little uncomfortable. What an intense gaze…
She shifted. Tanjirou glanced at her, then at his older doppelganger. His lips twitched before he readjusted himself so he was sitting slightly between them. His hand sought hers, fingers curling around hers in comfort.
“So where’s the other Sakana?” Inosuke asked tactlessly.
“Gods, Inosuke,” Zenitsu hissed.
Ayame slapped a hand over her face.
Even Tanjirou couldn’t hold back an exasperated sigh.
Hashira-Inosuke scowled. “Can’t you use your brain? Idiot.”
“Who are you calling an idiot?!”
“I’m looking at you, aren’t I?”
“Calm down,” Hashira-Zenitsu and Ayame said at the same time.
An awkward silence followed their words.
Inosuke shot to his feet, shaking his head vehemently. “No, I don’t get it! Wakame, you said that we’d always grow stronger together. If they’re Hashiras or whatever, then the other you would be one too, right? So where is she? Don’t tell me she left you behind – ”
“Higuchi Ayame was the Flame Hashira.”
Those were the first words Hashira-Tanjirou had spoken since they arrived at the Wisteria House. He was mostly silent – almost sullen. He only replied to his fellow Hashiras in grunts and single words, voice gruff as if it hadn’t been used in a long time.
The older Zenitsu winced. “Tanjirou…”
“No, they have to – Ayame was the Flame Hashira.” Red eyes bore into her. “She was the Flame Hashira. She went on a mission – onto the Mugen Train, and she – ”
“We know.”
Ayame’s voice was quiet and firm. Her gaze was drawn to Hashira-Tanjirou’s hands, which were clenched tightly in his lap. His knuckles were white.
(The four teenagers were pale.)
“We know,” she repeated, “so you don’t have to explain further.”
Higuchi Ayame was the Flame Hashira.
She went on a mission – onto the Mugen Train, and she –
Ayame knew how that story ended. The Flame Hashira faced Upper Three and died fighting him. Two hundred passengers, and only one casualty. Only one sacrifice.
Tanjirou’s grip was too tight, his blunt fingernails digging into her flesh. He couldn’t look at this older version of him, his gaze fixed on the tea tray that sat between the two groups.
She gently touched his shoulder. He startled, wide eyes looking at her with a hint of panic.
“It’s okay,” she said quietly. “I had a feeling it was something like this.”
If the three men in front of them were Hashiras, of course her alternate self would be a Hashira too. She was a Breath of Flame user, and she didn’t think that would change.
Hashira-Tanjirou abruptly stood. His face was turned away, shoulders tensed. His heartbeat was unsteady, chest heaving despite the lack of exertion. He left the room without another word, almost quick enough to disappear from sight.
Hashira-Inosuke drained his cup. “We should go after him.”
“Yeah,” Hashira-Zenitsu sighed. “Before he does something stupid. Excuse us.”
Ayame wasn’t sure what to do. How was someone supposed to react when they were told that their counterpart was dead?
“I think I’m gonna be sick,” Zenitsu wheezed weakly. He tugged at her haori. “A – Ayame-chan…”
“I know.” She nodded. “I know. But that’s…”
It was different. It wasn’t the same thing at all. That other Ayame had been the Flame Hashira on the Mugen Train mission. It wasn’t the same…
Hours passed by and the Hashira trio didn’t come back. Tanjirou and Ayame shared concerned looks; Hashira-Tanjirou hadn’t looked like he was well at all. It was a miracle he was even allowed on a mission.
“Let’s go look for them,” he told Ayame quietly while Zenitsu and Inosuke prepared for bed. “I’m worried.”
Ayame bit her lip and nodded. “Mn. Me too.”
It was easy enough to find them. The trio hadn’t ventured very far; they were out in the back courtyard. Hashira-Tanjirou was slumped against the large wisteria tree near the fence, his head cradled in his hands. His friends were leaning into his sides – being present without being overbearing. It was such a strange sight to see Zenitsu and Inosuke quietly sitting without squabbling. She thought all three men painted such a solemn, sad picture.
Her fingers curled into Tanjirou’s haori sleeve, tugging hesitantly.
Tanjirou paused before stepping onto the engawa, frowning slightly. “What is it?”
She glanced at the three men again. “I don’t think we should bother them. Let’s leave them alone.”
“But…”
“Or you go alone. I don’t want to make things worse…”
The look on the older Tanjirou’s face when he saw her… she didn’t think she had ever seen such an expression before in her life. It was only made more uncomfortable by the fact that it was the almost-familiar sight of her friend, just a little older.
Tanjirou glanced at them. She wondered if he was remembering how things were after Obon. It wasn’t really the same thing, but it was close enough, wasn’t it?
Hashira-Inosuke looked at them. His frown made the scar on his face look even more fearsome.
“You might as well get over here,” he said gruffly. He crossed his arms and leaned into Hashira-Tanjirou further. “It's creeping me out, feeling you guys standing there so quietly.”
“Inosuke," Hashira-Zenitsu chided mildly. He offered the teenagers a gentle smile. “You can come over, we don't bite.”
Now that Ayame was the one hearing it, it sounded a lot like how she would gently berate Inosuke. How Tanjirou would be the first person to offer an outsider a helping hand.
Hashira-Inosuke harrumphed. Hashira-Zenitsu slapped the back of his head.
Ayame cleared her throat awkwardly. “I should go – ”
“Stay.”
All eyes drew to the man with his head in his hands.
“You can stay,” he said hoarsely.
Tanjirou stiffened. Ayame glanced at the back of his head uncertainly, her hand finding his and squeezing. Tanjirou's fingers twitched before they were closing over hers, tugging her forward.
She followed him reluctantly.
“I bet he misses you,” Tanjirou said suddenly. “He hasn't – he hasn't seen you in… a while. So maybe – maybe it'll help. Yeah, it'll help.”
Was he trying to convince her or himself? She didn't know. Then again, if they were both Tanjirou…
She supposed he knew himself better than she knew him.
Hashira-Zenitsu smiled faintly. He gestured to a spot of grass in front of him, so Ayame and Tanjirou folded themselves in front of the three Hashiras.
Hashiras.
Ayame still couldn't believe what she was seeing. Since Mugen Train, she knew that Hashira wasn't just a hazy goal in the distance for her, but it was strange to be met with alternate versions of her friends that were already Hashiras. At a glance, she could tell that they had years of experience on her and her friends.
“This is nostalgic,” Hashira-Zenitsu said wistfully. "Ne, I'm just realising how small we used to be. And how much I used to cry.”
“You still cry plenty,” Hashira-Inosuke pointed out.
Hashira-Zenitsu's eyebrow twitched. “No one asked you.”
Tanjirou blinked, then laughed. “You guys are still the same!”
Ayame stared at Hashira-Tanjirou. His gaze was blank as he stared at the ground.
“... I'm sorry,” she said earnestly.
Red eyes flitted up to her face. Quickly dropped once more.
“You,” he said haltingly, “look like Giyuu. With the ribbon in your hair.”
“Tomioka-san?” she blurted, a hand rising to her ribbon.
What in the world?
Tanjirou's gaze shot to her. He eyed her black hair and blue eyes and snorted.
“Gods,” he snickered, “you do look like Tomioka-san!”
She shoved him, cheeks hot with embarrassment. “I do not. Shut up.”
A smile flitted across Hashira-Tanjirou's lips.
“I'm pretty sure I've seen Sabito and Giyuu do the exact same thing," he said quietly.
Tanjirou froze. He whipped his head to his older counterpart, mouth dropping. “Sabito-san? EH?!”
“Who's Sabito?” Ayame asked blankly.
“He's the boy with the oni sister,” replied Hashira-Tanjirou.
What?
Oh.
She bit back a frown.
Oh… was Nezuko… not Hashira-Tanjirou's sister?
“Makomo-chan,” Hashira-Zenitsu said gingerly. “She's awfully sweet, ne? Although not as cute as Kanao-chan. Right, Inosuke?”
“I don't have an opinion,” the boar said flatly.
“Right. Sure.”
“I don't.”
“Inosuke thinks Kanao is pretty,” Hashira-Tanjirou offered, finally straightening. There was some colour on his face.
Hashira-Inosuke shoved himself against Hashira-Tanjirou, toppling him into Hashira-Zenitsu.
“I said that one time!”
“To her face,” Hashira-Zenitsu cackled in delight. “I wish I could've painted a picture!”
“Shut up – don't laugh, Tanjirou! Why didn't you stop me? I was drugged as hell – ”
Hashira-Tanjirou's laughter curled into the air. It was as soft as a breeze, and Hashira-Zenitsu and Hashira-Inosuke seemed to still. Savoured the moment.
Then their bickering started back up – louder than before.
Ayame watched, feeling a twisted sense of comfort and sadness. It made her feel hopeful.
She glanced at Tanjirou and knocked her shoulder against his.
She was glad that they were okay. Even without her.

BABE I've been so busy recently sorry for not being as active 😭 but I'm gone for like 4 days and I come back to you WATCHING DEMON SLAYER!? I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS ITS LITERALLY ONE OF MY FAVES ❤ so I literally watched all 3 seasons of demon slayer in like two days lol and I kinda regret watching it while on my period bc I fr cried like every episode LOL I was just a mess of emotions for those two days. First Inosuke is 100% my favorite character I would die for him in a heartbeat, and tanjiro is like my son I genuinely just adore him 🥺 I was hesitant to start demon slayer bc I thought that tanjiro seemed kinda boring for a main character (and I was like why the fuck does that girl have that thing in her mouth 24/7) but I was wroooong hes such an angel and I would literally stop watching the show if anything bad happened to him. I also want to fuck literally all of the hashira and demons big shocker I know lol. I'm super conflicted about muzan tho and would love to hear your thoughts on him. Like I think hes super hot, does he resemble Michael Jackson? Yes, but hes still sexy in my eyes lol but at the same time I just have a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to him. I usually LOVE villains no matter what no questions asked but after watching rui's backstory and seeing how muzan basically manipulated this poor boy to become a demon bc he was in that much pain and wanted to be free from it made me really sad ngl 😥 idk I'd probably still fuck him lol and I think hes a really cool and cruel villain but hes definitely not my fav. Also if you like the demons in this season wait until you get to mugen train and entertainment arc 👀 my fav demon so far is in entertainment arc so I'm so excited for you to get to that season ❤ as far as the hashiras goes I feel like this is such a controversial take bc hes everyone's favorite but I'm not that into uzui lol. Like hes undeniably the hottest character for sure but hes just not for me especially since I'm a super jealous person lol (would still fuck him under certain circumstances tho lmaoo). My favorites in no particular order are giyu, obanai, and sanemi for sure. Pleasee keep us updated on your thoughts as you watch I would love to see how you feel about the next two seasons like there's so much to talk about lol. Also I feel so blessed that I came back to you announcing a hashira au wtf I could cry 😭
Your important info post is looking BEAUTIFUL btw 👀
I WOULD LOVE TO TELL YOU ABOUT MY MAN DABI 😭 I feel like this ask is already ridiculously long tho so I probably will in my next ask lol but I 100% only watch mha for dabi and shigaraki so I dont blame you for not watching it. I think it’s very iconic that Inosuke is also my SON AND we have the same favorite hashira too 😭 OBANAI SANEMI AND GIYU FOR ME IN THAT ORDER
I’m bummed I thought I was gonna be all over uzui and like you said he’s sexy and I really like his character but he’s far from my fave, so is Rengoku! Who is, coincidentally, my moms favorite
YES THE HASHIRA AU reader is going to be the company hole ™️ we love to see it for sure
KDKSKSKS I REALLY PROBABLY NEED TO CHANGE MEGUMIS PIC IM JUST SO LAZY BUT I WANT THEM ALL TO MATCH

Broken Pillar 1/?
Everytime I watch the mugen train I burst into tears and to cope with this hurt I try to relieve something in writing. I don’t know how I came up with the idea but here we are. Hope you enjoy 😊
Words: 3898
romance, drama, mentions of blood and harsh topics (murder)
PS: Not a native speaker so I’m sorry for mistakes in spelling and choice of words
Everyone was looking at her.
Some with anger, some pitiful, others with tears in their eyes or a completely blank one. Each of these strange individuals radiated a strong aura, their gazes strong and undoubtedly all directed at her.
She could feel their eyes burning in her back, making her slightly uncomfortable. Anger boiling, accusing and judging her as she kneels in front of the building. Her hands are tied, the sword taken from her und her eyes were covered with a cloth.
It wasn’t really bothering her she knew this place by heart. The crunching of the cobblestone path, the neatly trimmed gras and beautiful blooming flowers arranged to absolute perfection.
The sacred garden was normally a sight to behold, a divine place reserved only for worthy eyes chosen by the master himself. Usually only his own family, the pillars and a few selected personalities were allowed to see the mansion from the inside. A place so divine that many think it must have been crafted by the gods themselves.
To have this view taken from her hurts her already aching heart, but she refuses to give in. She still believes in herself, believes in her doing and the choices she made.
It was better this way.
When she came here before it was always a pleasure. The meetings brought a bunch of people together who, over some time, she came to think of friends or some even family. She was looking forward to it, catching up, making plans for new missions, everything directed by the strong minded but gentle master.
She loved all of them and they loved her, but that changed.
Their positive attitude and gently greetings were gone, replaced with cold stares, unwilling to accept this situation.
She heard them whisper. How could she? – She was supposed to protect. – She brought shame on us.
It wasn’t hatred that drove them, it was simple disappointment. Not understanding what led up to this, they only did what they deemed right. And that was okay. She knew the consequences, even though in that moment she didn’t think of them.
Hearing them now, accusing her, not believing or understanding, it cracked her heart. She didn’t mean to hurt them or even betray. But she understood that none of them could share her feelings and thoughts, so they couldn’t understand her behaviour and her decision.
But the one thing that hurt the most was his staring. Of all the people gathered here today, he was the one he knew her the best. He was always beside her, encouraging her, training with her, loving her. Always a gentle ray of a sunlight in a cruel and dark world. sta
Whenever she cried or feared he was there. Holding her in his arms, let her cry her heart out in his warm embrace. Laughing with her over stupid little things. Always there whenever she needed him.
And he was there, he saw what happened. Her porcelain like sword drenched in dark red blood dripping from the blade. Her Uniform and soft hair splattered with red dots while she stood above the corpse. She would never forget the way he looked that day. Sad, disappointed, confused, broken.
When he dared to step closer, she immediately surrendered, kneeling down and offering him her sword, head held down submissively. In that moment she realized what she had done, but the only thing she regretted was that he had to witness the scene, had to see with his own, beautiful flaming eyes what she was capable of.
She wanted to apologize to him, if only to help him cope with it, but the words wouldn’t leave her tongue. How could she apologize if she believed to have done the right thing?
It was futile, and so she silently surrendered as two of her other friends arrived and restrained her. All of them knew it wasn’t necessary, she would never dare to hurt them, and they would never hurt her, but it was part of the protocol and so everyone simply followed the rules.
The Stone Pillar asked her why she acted out of her way, but she refused to talk. They wouldn’t understand, they didn’t need to. The feelings still swirled inside of her, the fear, the hatred, the pain inflicted to her reminded her of a time she would never forget for the rest of her live, and that was what snapped her restraints.
In the next moment she smelled the blood and looked into widened eyes as her blade dug deeper into the heaving chest in front of her. Relieve filled her and she watched as the life left the eyes staring at her and the body fell to the ground.
Gyomei started crying at the absence of her answer and mumbled a prayer for her. She appreciated it as she was walked by them back to the headquarters.
Neither Shinobu nor Kyojuro would speak. While the insect pillar would look at her and silently question her strange behaviour the usually loud and enthusiastic Kyojuro walked quietly behind them. She could feel his eyes, searching for a sign, a single clue to understand what has driven her, but still she refused to give a single hint.
She didn’t need them to feel for her, it would only cloud their judgement more and her pride wouldn’t want them to ease her punishment just because she was one of their friends. She murdered a human being, a person she was supposed to protect and now she would take the full responsibility for her actions. She owed this to the other pillars.
For the last few days, she was kept in a makeshift prison in the headquarters. They didn’t need one before, so they had to keep her in room, emptied and darkened to a least copy the feeling of a real prison.
While she was waiting there, she was visited by the other pillars. They also tried to get answers from her, but she cast down every single attempt. Frustrated with her weird behaviour all of them left pretty fast, Sanemi got particularly angry and threw a fit. “You are making this hard for all of us. I don’t understand, we don’t understand. How could you do this?!”
She shook her head in silence and looked at him, her gaze begging him to leave before she would break, and he unwillingly followed her plea. She wasn’t ready to talk about her motivation and didn’t knew if she ever would.
It was too much pain, too vulnerable and she didn’t want to be pitied. For her it would mean to shatter all of the carefully build walls, remember everything and she feared if she remembered she would never recover from it.
It was for the better. I couldn’t go on living like this.
The most persistent one was Kyojuro as expected. He would come every day, closing the shoji doors behind him and sit down. His gaze capturing hers, his bright smile not showing anymore. Instead, there was frown his face, his mouth drawn in a thin line and the fire in his dulled the longer he stayed.
Kyojuro wouldn’t speak to her, he couldn’t find the words to do so. He was way too confused; of all the pillars he was the one who suffered the most. In his eyes she could see the love he held for her and how he tries to understand all of this.
He wouldn’t cry while sitting there, but she knew he did when he was alone, and no one would see him. Her heart ached, longed for him and his warmth. A few times she considered to tell him but hearing her sorrows would only spark the sadness and worry more and didn’t want to hurt him more than she already did.
He was way to caring, always watching out for others without thinking of his own wellbeing and hearing her truth would only break his loving heart. She couldn’t do that him, she loved him too much. He already had to endure so much; it wouldn’t be fair to load more of her weight on his trembling shoulders.
Kyojuro deserved happiness, someone who hadn’t seen what she saw, someone who would give him everything he wished for and as much as she wanted to be that person, to shower him in love and affection her own struggles wayed her down, so much that she lost herself and did something unforgivable.
That’s why she was surprised on the last day before the trial. Kyojuro came to visit her and for hours they sat in silence until the sun set and the night approached.
When he stood up, he didn’t turn around to leave, instead he would step closer until he stood before her. His gaze weight heavy on her and she crossed her arms she averted and stared at the wall.
The ruffling of his clothes unnerved her, and she closed her eyes, hoping he would leave. But he wouldn’t.
Kyojuro kneeled down as close to her as possible, his fanned over the crown of her head and his heart beating loud as raging drums she could hear the fast rhythm next to her ear.
One of his hands touched her cheek tenderly, caressing her skin and he leaned closer to her, burying his nose in her hair. Her pulse quickened and she dug her nails into her arms, trying not throw herself into him. She wasn’t worthy of his love anymore.
The Flame Pillar proceeded to stroke her face, warming up her cold skin and thinking over and over what he missed, what made her act in such a defeated way, what made her take a human life.
As much as he thought about it, he found no solution to this riddle. She was the nicest, gentlest person he ever met. A fierce fighter, protecting everyone and slaying demons to keep people safe. Of course, she sometimes had a harsh attitude and rough days like everybody else, but to murder someone? Kyojuro was devasted and confused when he found her.
She surrendered so willingly, but what bothered him was that she didn’t show a single sign of regret nor let anybody in to solve her actions. He didn’t understand and it hurt so much. It’s the first time she wouldn’t let him into her problems, and he was lost. Lost in this unbelievable situation, lost in his own feelings for her.
His restraints snapped on the last day of her capture and he couldn’t bare to see her like this anymore.
When he kneeled down next to her, overwhelmed by her sweet smell, couldn’t help but to show her he still loved her. Kyojuro needed to make sure she would understand that she could still open up to him and that he would always stay at her side no matter what. He love her to much to let her go but at first, they needed to see what the next day would bring.
Helplessly he leaned closer and pressed his lips to her temple. Her skin was cold against his burning hot lips, and he hoped a bit of his warmth spread over to her, making sure she wouldn’t feel too alone when the morning arrives.
She stiffened she felt his lips but didn’t push him away. Relishing in this familiar feeling she let him hold her for she craved his presence too much. She knew what he wanted to tell her with his loving gift, and she appreciated his sympathy.
He retreated way too early for both of them but needed to leave before he would be suspected of favouritism in the trial. Kyojuro left as quickly as he approached and as he opened the shoji doors, he spoke the first words to her in a long time.
“I don’t understand why you did it, but no matter what happens, I refuse to leave you.”
The shoji door closed, and she cried silently.
Kyojuro held his promise. When they came to fetch her, he was there too, walking together with Sanemi and Gyomei. They brought her to their meeting point, the sacred garden, and waited for the arrival of the master.
He would be the one judge her and decide the punishment for her crime. She was told he already had a few Kakushi explaining what happened and of course the pillars opinions. Today he they would hear her view if she was willing to speak and the master would make the final sentence.
Everyone was nervous and waited impatiently until they heard the soft footsteps approaching from the building.
She wasn’t able to see them due to the cloth covering her eyes, but she heard good enough to recognize the steps of the master and his daughters approaching. But she was curious what his expression must look like.
The master was a kind person, treating and loving them like his own children and it hurt her to have betrayed his trust in her. The ruffling of clothes told her the other pillars had taken their places and kneeled behind her, while the master stepped out and stood on the engawa.
“What a day to meet, my dear children, though I wish it was for nicer circumstances.”
His voice was soft as always but tinged with a bit of sadness. Her heart clenched painfully, and she bowed her head down to the ground. Though he couldn’t visually see her, he was focused on her, and she felt tears gathering in her eyes.
After all his aura was nothing but soothing and gentle, radiating a peacefulness that could calm any raging storm.
“I’m glad your healthy master and thank the gods for keeping you safe, but I’m sorry too, as we all are, for the cause of our meeting.” It was Shinobu who spoke, and her words sting a lot in her already aching heart. She didn’t know how long she could take this.
And now all the attention shifted back to her, and she summoned all of her willpower not to start trembling, not now.
“Someone please take the blindfold off her; she is still one of my beloved children.”
She swallowed heavy at his sweet words, even now he refused to treat her as a criminal and in her mind, she thanked him for his never ending kindness.
Someone stepped closer and she could feel hands working on the blindfold, untying the knot and then exposing her eyes to the broad sunlight. The day was far too bright for an event like this, and she felt ashamed for taking their precious time.
From the corner of her eyes, she could see Tengen tugging the blindfold in his uniform and a small reassuring smile gracing his features as he retreats to his position. Even the flamboyant master of sound was absolutely quiet. How disturbing.
“Thank you, Tengen.” She held her head low but still managed to get a glimpse of the master. He was facing her but without a trace of a smile. A small frown sits on his face, and she had never seen him so sad before. Even his usual neutral watching daughters radiated a kind of sadness and her heart beats unnervingly.
She has hurt the only people she ever considered her family.
“Now”, the master spoke, and all eyes were directed at him, “It’s time to converse about your punishment, my dear Y/N, Thunder Pillar.” His expression softened a bit and I made sure to pay attention to every word of his.
“But before that I would like to hear why you acted so out of your way. What drove you to kill a human, one of the precious beings we swore to protect with all of our might?”
Even the happily chirping birds quieted at his question. She could feel the Pillars glares on her back and goosebumps spread over her sensitive skin. The temperature seemed to drop a few degrees and nervousness makes her nerves shiver.
For a second, she closed her eyes and reviewed the scene to led to all of this. Suddenly all her feelings vanished, and her body grew cold, despite the wonderful day bathing her in sunlight.
She took a deep breath and opened her eyes, conviction swirling behind them. “I will make no excuses. I know it was wrong and I will face whatever consequences you find fitting, master. But I won’t apologize for my heart tells me I was right in my doing.”
The Pillars gasped in shocked behind her. Some started murmuring and others just stared at me. The words weigh heavy in the air, but she was convinced to speak the truth, even though it may not be what they wanted to hear.
The master shushed them and turned back to me. “So, you are not regretting anything?”
He questioned further, straining the tension that was building around us.
I straightened my back and folded my tied hands in my lap. “I regret taking a human life, but I saw no other solution for the sake of my soul.”
The master narrowed his eyes and thought about her words. she wasn’t ready to unfold the things that occurred before the incident but answered as truthfully as she could without giving too much information.
Somehow, he understood a bit of what I hinted at, and he nodded. “Does one of you has something to share before I make a decision, my children?”
They hesitated, and she was relieved they did. Hesitation meant they tried to separate their logical thinking from their feelings and a possibly unclouded judgement was what she wanted. Whatever they decided she would cope with it.
Then, surprising everyone, Muichiro raised his voice. “I’m certain she had a good reason. And we can’t afford to lose a pillar in these harsh times.”
“But she still killed a human and broke the corps rules. She needs to punished, pillar or not.” Obanai tried not to sound too hostile.
“Y/N always protects everyone. It makes no sense she would suddenly turn her person like that. I believe in something she refuses to share.” Mitsuri sounded genuinely concerned and her hurt swelled for her dear friend.
Shinobu followed closely after Mitsuri. “The punishment shouldn’t be lethal; we still need her abilities. But she needs to be watched as long as she refuses to put the whole truth.” Curious how the mood changed slowly she watched over her shoulder as the pillars nodded at Shinobus statement.
Gyomei has started crying again and folded this hands. “She needs to atone for her sin, but we don’t have the luxury to lose a pillar.”
“As much as it pains me, but they’re right. It wouldn’t be wise to kill a pillar, think of how that must look for the lower ranks, they’re making enough problems without these news.” Sanemi tried to sound rude, but even he couldn’t accept to lose a friend, since she was one of the few people secretly respected.
Giyuu didn’t said anything but agreed with the other opinions, so did Tengen who held a short speech of how he could not let a flamboyant pillar like her die in such an unflamboyantly way.
She wasn’t really happy with their opinions. Maybe because she wanted to atone for the kill and the way they spoke it didn’t seem like they would actually want her to get a real punishment. Maybe she was wrong and the were indeed too clouded to judge her?
The master listened to them and thought about a solution. He agreed that the Thunder Pillar was hiding something that would explain why she hurt an innocent human, but as long as she wouldn’t word her problems none of them was able to help her.
But there was still one of them who hasn’t said anything, maybe it would help him make a decision. “Kyojuro, my child, what do you think?”
The Flame Pillar flinched as the master addressed him. Everyone looked at him, surprised and concerned he was so quiet, unlike himself. He hasn’t spoken a word until now, refused to smile or interact with them. His enthusiastic nature swapped with a downcast gaze and a frown sitting on his face.
Y/N wouldn’t turn to him. She looked down into her lap and dug her nails into her uniform, trying to keep her composure.
“She did something unforgivable, something every other person would be sentenced to death for.” Kyojuro took a deep breath, and she could feel his burning gaze fully focused on her.
She didn’t see it, but a sad smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “But I could never see her hurt. I agree with a softer punishment and supervision, but please, Master, friends, let’s try not to lose more friends than necessary.”
The dam broke and she cried silent tears as her nails dug painfully into her skin. Kyojuro words were stinging, clawing at her heart. Even he, who was so righteous as him, couldn’t come up with a real sentence.
Why can’t they just treat her equal to the crime she committed? She killed someone and they don’t know why yet refuse to really accept the reality. It hurt her more than anything else since they wouldn’t even allow her to make up for her sin. For her, this was more cruel than actual death sentence.
The master thought hard about this. He too wasn’t too fond of killing a pillar or exclude her from the corps. They needed every single fighter and since Y/N was the Thunder Pillar, he couldn’t afford to lose her, not like this.
The feeling of Shinobus gaze distracted him. She tried to send him a silent message and he nodded silently at her, then raised a hand to guide the attention back to him.
“I have made up my mind.” The pillars looked at their master and Y/N eyed him shyly with puffy red eyes and slight tear stains on her cheek.
“Y/N.” She felt his attention on her and shivered lightly. “You will keep your rank as the Thunder Pillar, for we can’t afford to lose more slayers. But as your punishment you will lose your freedom, being supervised day and night until we decide you deserve our trust again.”
She huffed and her heart pounded angrily. Even the master pitied her that much?! Please, couldn’t they just behead her as the criminal she is? No, instead she will be treated like a child, a shameful and unnerving situation for one of the corps best slayers.
“Furthermore, you will spend some time in the butterfly mansion, of course working without salary, to cope for the caused damage.”
Great. She will be chained like a dog with anger issues until they decide to set her free, which, in case of her crime, could mean she will never be free again.
As much as she wanted to voice her discomfort, she had no right to do so. She wanted to be punished, and if that’s what that the master decided for her, she will bow. Maybe it really was better than get beheaded. Maybe it was chance to finally live free of nightmares and the haunting feeling that was creeping her for twenty years.
“And who will be her supervisor?” Tengen asked curiously and the gemstones on his headband rattled playfully.
In a split second a voice answered, bitter and determined. “I’ll do it.”
She turned around and met with the intensive burning gaze of Kyojuro. His eyes were slightly narrowed, and he watched her with an unreadable expression.
“Then so be it.” The master agrees and Y/N could feel the blood draining from her face.

Tumblr media
You were sitting there at the train station waiting. “Where are they?... he should be here by now!” you began to panic because the train he was on had yet to come into the station, it was now late by half an hour. You were trying your hardest to just sit there and wait, it was killing you not knowing if he was ok or not alone with the other slayers who joined him in his mission. You close your eyes and begin a small prayer for their safety, one you learned from the Stone Pillar Gyomei. It was at this moment you hear a familiar cawing sound. You finish your prayer and look up to see your trusty Raven flying down to you.
“(Y/N)! (Y/N)!” She spoke as she flew down. She landed down on your shoulder, lucky for you she was rather small compared to others. “Shh! Momani, you can’t speak out here! There are regulars around!” [Regulars- Non slayers, civilians] With that she leaned in with a soft caw. “Kyoujurou Rengoku! Along with 3 other slayers and the Demon Nezuko have been spotted!” Your eyes widen, you feel that awful tension in your gut go away knowing they are still alive.
“They have defeated the Lower rank Demon Enmu! The Train is no longer running! Your attendance is needed at the Butterfly estate! All known Slayers are injured and headed there now! Go (Y/N)! The Butterfly estate! ” She cawed flying off of your shoulder into the sky ready to lead you to your next location. You get up and dust off, heading to the butterfly estate. You were excited to finally see your beloved Sunshine after he had been gone for so long.
[Time skips because your journey was long]
You had finally made it to the Butterfly estate you walk up to the entrance and you were greeted by the small girl with pigtails, Aoi. She looked a bit worried when she saw it was you and before you could get any words out, she grabbed your hand and dragged you to wherever she was going. “H-Hey Aoi! Where are we going!?” She looked back at you “you will understand when we get there, Miss (Y/N) as of right now you are needed really badly! Not to mention you were late on arrival today as usual!” You rolled your eyes; you were not late! If anything, you were early, she always has a reason to be this way to you.
You were finally let go of once you had reached one of the infirmary rooms. You look down at her a bit confused, she looked up at you with worry fiddling her fingers a bit. “So, Miss (Y/N) you do understand why you are here right?” She spoke. “Yes of course I do! Rengoku and the other slayers who went with him are here because of their injuries right. I was told to come to help right?” She looked down, “why what is with that face Aoi? Just tell me.” She looked at you with that stern little face she always had on
“You’re here because Rengoku Injuries are Sever! He Got into a fight with an Upper Rank Demon…” Your eyes shot open, A upper rank demon, one of the twelve Kizuki? No way.
You went to open the door and see him, but she grabbed your hand holding it there, you shoot a glare at her. “Listen! Tanjiro said he won but the demon got away… has hurt really bad but he asked you be here… so please don’t freak out…” you were on the verge of tears, but you sucked it up and nodded to her. She let you go and you slowly slid the door open.
You saw many empty beds, and the room was only lit by the sunlight coming in from outside. But you finally saw him. He was sitting up in his bed looking outside he had the same soft smile as he always did but… He was covered in bandages his chest and stomach were fully rapped up; His right eye was also rapped up. You gasped lightly at this; how could he have done something so reckless. With that he slowly turned to see you, he gave you his big cheesy grin like he always did, “Hello (Y/N)! It sure has been a moment!” He spoke with his loud sweet tone; it was a bit harsh sounding, but you didn’t mind. You walked up to him taking in his new image, all he did was watch your movements with his smile plastered on his face.
You get to him finally and he grabs your hand, and you sit next to him on his bed. You were about to cry, You were sad and happy all at once. He was alive but hurt so bad… “why are you tearing up my sunshine? ~” He said as he wiped your tears softly with his other hand. You sniffle a bit “I am right here am I not?” You nod. “then why be sad when I am here by your side! Smile for me~ “You lean into his hand giggling lightly giving him a soft smile. “That’s it! Come on now! ~ I have not seen your beautiful smile in days! Give me your best!!” You couldn’t help but laugh at this. Despite all his injuries, his raspy voice, the pain he must be feeling he was worried about you and a simple smile. That’s your Rengoku alright.
“There it is~…that sweet smile so bright and radiant as ever~…” you softly lean in hugging him ever so softly and he hugged you back. You felt him jump a bit in pain yet when you tried to pull away, he only pulled you in closer, hugging you tightly.
“My sunshine~… I am so glad I get to see you again… I could have ended it all but…” he let you go and as you faced him, he placed a hand on your cheek. “I wanted to come home to you once more~”
You smiled to him as he leaned in and gave you a soft passion filled kiss. “I’m just so glad you’re ok and safe~” he laughed aloud “I am merely glad I am in one piece! I was almost split into two halves! Could you image two of me walking around (Y/N)?” You both laugh on together.
He was safe and sound with you by his side. You could feel your spirits lift each time you saw him. You stayed at the Butterfly estate for as long as he was there. You helped around and talked to Tanjiro and them about their mission. Rengoku would tell you stories of the mission and Tanjiro and the others was so excited because Rengoku told them he would train them all. You were so happy to see him smile and glow like he did. You couldn’t ask for more from the world than what you had with Rengoku. He was your Sunshine like you was his, he lit up a room and all the people he looked at. He was the reason you kept moving forward, he was the fuzzy feeling in your tummy, he was so much more than words could express.
He was the Fire Burning in your heart, never going out only getting brighter as each day passed.

Dream Analysis of Mugen Ressha
Spoilers for the movie, while it does not depart from the plot of the manga, they made adaptational choices which I may refer to within.
While Enmu has control over what kind of dream his victims see, ultimately, he would have no way of knowing all of the details of his victims' lives, so we can assume that he is prompting his victims to fill in a lot of the details themselves. These are the worlds they surround themselves with consciously, but their untouchable unconscious spaces say just as much.
I've said some of this before, but these dream sequences give us so much to say about Inosuke, Zenitsu, Kyojuro, and Tanjiro.
Into the dream: Did that "Rengoku-aniki" thing really happen???? It's animated like a fever dream (or drawn like a typical Gotouge-being-Gotouge panel), but both the movie and the manga leave this inconclusive. It can be interpreted two ways: 1. The two other demons were there all along as decoys, set to appear only when Enmu's blood technique slowly started to take effect so that they'd let their guard down. In this way, we'd know that the boys had a true way of witnessing Kyojuro's prowess and a true bonding moment, thereby making his death hit all the harder later. This would also mean that one of the cars was totally unusable for passengers, and many of the passengers were already thoroughly spooked before falling into sleep. It would also imply that they were all super excited, thoroughly relieved, returned to their seats, and then just passed out.
2. The moment the tickets were clipped, Enmu's very, very, very realistic dreams took immediate effect, but he still needed time before it took effect enough that their guards would go down. If this is the case, then it implies the following: 1. Enmu's illusions can be shared 2. Everyone syncs extremely well together to have all been sucked in by the same illusion (it's possible it was only Tanjiro's, but since we get in everyone's heads a little in this part, I believe they all experienced the same thing). Reacting in ways so true to how they would in waking like, they learned as much about each other as truthfully as they would have if they were fighting while awake. 3. The "Rengoku-aniki" thing is the moment they're falling into a deeper stage of sleep, when any bizarre thing will make sense. They've lost any sense of holding back and are embracing the emotions as they hit them. Even if that was all a dream, the bond formed was very real. But then, as they fall deep, they fall into their own headspaces. Inosuke: I love how bombastic this dream is. It moves at a very fast pace, and everything revolves around Inosuke. He is physically much larger than Ponjiro, Chuuitsu, and Pyonko, who clearly follow him as their leader, the most powerful person in this cave exploring world full of wonder and excitement. True to life, these underlings can at times be frustrating or stupid, but there is no one else Inosuke would rather have at his side to take on a hugely impressive foe. It's a relatively simplistic world, what Inosuke really cares about is his place in it, and who is there.
Taking it a step deeper, he should not be able to manifest in his self-conscious space, but Gotouge attributes his and Zenitsu's ability to do this and protect their cores from intruders to their strong senses of self. What's telling is that his subconscious space is practically identical to his conscious dream space; like there is no breakage between one stage of reality and the next. In its Zen-like simplicity Inosuke's mind is never at odds with itself, its interpretation of reality is fluid and seamless. However, being at this deeper state brings us to a deeper state of self actualization, with Inosuke manifesting closer to the ideal beast he views himself as.
Now, with Inosuke being so fully invested in what he sees as reality, he's still got a carry-over effect from dream after waking up, which one could interpret as not having fully shaken the effects of Enmu's blood technique. After all, Zenitsu simply never broke out of it, Tanjiro had to kill himself in his dreams each time to fully snap out of it, and Kyojuro was the only one powerful enough to have broken through its effects through his own willpower. When Tanjiro says the train is a demon, he buzzes with "I was right!" (a conviction that only got stronger in his dream), and Inosuke's declarations of being the boss and Tanjiro being his underling are indignantly plentiful and he fully believes what he is saying every time he brings it up, even if he's aware that he's no longer in the cave exploring dream. But, given that Inosuke is so at peace with his own version of reality, it's also just as likely that his conviction of being The Boss was also only compounded by the dream, and all that dream did was give him a more fun setting in which to play around in. But, what was so fun about the dream, what made him sleep-giggle with pleasure, was that everyone else was finally getting with the program and recognizing him as the boss, as they should. Finally. It's so frustrating in real life that he has to keep reminding them to get it right. Get it, Santaro?? GOOD. Zenitsu: What I love here is the contrast between subconscious and conscious space. Both of them have the same theme melody, but played in very, very different ways. They also both play with the same core desire in very different ways as well. Is it so much to ask that he can just spend some time alone with the girl he loves?? If we jump straight to the pitch black unconscious space, he specifies to the intruder that only Nezuko is allowed there. Not just girls in general, not a close friend like Tanjiro, only the one girl he loves, and even then, you'd have to love someone a lot to invite them into the deepest, darkest corners of your soul. And it is a very, very, very, very dark corner. Zenitsu's spent most of his life building that dark, pessimistic personality, compounded by the treatment he's always received throughout his life and what he believes about himself at his core. He's ugly and depraved there, and very defensive. Because he holds himself in such darkness, that makes him desire the bright, happy, completely idealistic world of his conscious dream world. It's rich with detail and warm and he knows it well, that places is the first place he ever felt someone have hope for him; it's Jiichan's home, that sunny place with delicious peaches and full of clovers and lush greenery and a charming stream. Of course he'd want to show it all to Nezuko, she deserves to see such a happy, pretty place! And, while the world is idealized and happy, Nezuko is e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y cute and actually wants to hang out with him too. She's willing no hold his hand, none of the girls who dated (read: used) Zenitsu in the past were ever willing to hold his hand. He even gets to show her that he can be cool, and she likes it!! She looks him in the eyes and is totally honest about enjoying his company!!
He just wants someone to want him back. He wants to belong in the sunshine too. So, even if he had it in him to wake up from Enmu's blood technique, who can blame him for staying there? (You know, besides Tanjiro, who has been desperately screaming for them all to wake up and help him protect the passengers. Zzzzz, five more minutes, Tanjiro, zzzzzzz----) Kyojuro: This... isn't really a happy dream. Kyojuro has accepted a lot of sad parts of his reality so wholeheartedly that he doesn't seek the comfort of a dream in which his mother is still alive, or a dream in which his father is proud of him. Instead, what Kyojuro was looking for was the chance to go back and say more to Senjuro. This implies that on the real day he knelt in that room, while his father faced away and read the book* while Kyojuro told him all about how he defeated Lower Moon Two and became a Pillar, and was met with his father's heartbreakingly unenthusiastic reply, he later went outside and...
...didn't say any words of comfort to Senjuro.
This regret, that he didn't do more for his brother whom he knew was hurting in his own silent ways this whole time, was what sat most bothersomely in Kyojuro's otherwise peacefully self-assured psyche (or fired-up psyche, if you go by his subconscious space) . It makes sense that in his dying wishes, the first thing he requests is that Tanjiro do this in his stead. *Speaking of that book, Kyojuro had forgotten about it until his memories pulled together to create the details of the dream, which was why he thought to mention it to Tanjiro later. This shows that Enmu is not an architect of people's dreams, he only sets them in motion. How believable they are depends on each victim. (Totally unrelated, I love the design of the Rengoku estate's garden??? It's primarily evergreen and unflowering trees, meaning it stays relatively steadfast throughout the year, a garden designed in samurai villa taste. Plus the details of the house also fit really well, I think??? Would need to review research of buke-yashiki architecture to say more.) Tanjiro: ...*deep breath* This boy really, really wants to go home. Like, the climax of the movie is amazing and all, but it's the scenes with Tanjiro's family that make me cry. Ugh, where do I start. Enmu probably just grabs on to whatever thread of a desire a person has, and then he just tugs on it and says "this way, let's go really far in this direction, show me where it goes, hmm, okay, nice, lovely. Have fun here, I've now seen enough to write my own angsty version for later." So... so I'm just going to work backwards a moment. Enmu screwed up here, thinking he could really read the depth of Tanjiro's family and his feelings for them. He thought he could make a convincing version of these "characters" cry and shove Tanjiro around and speak meanly to him and make him feel shame. And the cut to that dream, OH MY GOSH, truly horrific sound and color change. But Tanjiro's sees through it so fast that he wakes up immediately and uses that anger at how Enmu wrote them to cut off his "head." You screwed up, Enmu, you blew it, maybe other people would very so blown down by the shock that they wouldn't question how unreal that dream sequence is, but Tanjiro has honed his fighting spirit so much that it's been nagging him even throughout his happy dream. And he really, really, really wants to stay in that happy dream. Like, even though he's on guard at the beginning, so much so that he only focuses on the familiar feeling of a demon being around and does not notice the familiar landscape AT ALL. But the moment Hanako and Shigeru step in, convincingly made from Tanjiro's memories and unedited by Enmu, Tanjiro throws that all away in an instant. As he says when he's trying, after trying and trying and trying to rip himself away from the dream, he was never even supposed to had left this world. He was never supposed to had touched anything like a sword, they were all supposed to stay there together, living their simple life. If things hadn't gone wrong that one night. Tanjiro cares deeply about his mission, he's adopted his training deeply, he has serious desire to improve, which is why his subconsciously keeps trying to call himself back to reality, but it's so hard, because this is where he wants to be, and it's even harder because it feels so real. It's a little peeve of mine when families with lots of little siblings are written to be too angelic and idealistic, and there is some of that with the "let's make sembei, yaaaay" scene, but... but that's actually pretty true. I'm giving myself away with how close this hits to home, but it's a dynamic in a lot of large families, especially large families pretty happy to stay to themselves and people who live the same sort of conservative, traditional lifestyle, to foster in the older siblings some pride in taking care of the little ones and helping create that happy world for them, even if taking care of little kids can be rough. It's not to say that things are always happy and fluffy, they're not, and that's not to say even
happy kids don't resent being in a large family sometimes. But there's plenty of moments in daily life, especially in the presence of small children, that you get swept up into a sillier, happy, caretaker side of yourself, and since you all grow up with these silly moments together, you're going to naturally fall into into some silly, scripted-feeling moments of "then I'll be in charge of eating the sembei!" "no faaaaair!". So, I'll give the sembei scene a pass because that IS a moment that happens in years of moments with the same posse of kiddos around you all the time. But it's also so striking to me how each of Tanjiro's siblings, however idealized, has their own personality. The traits are so subtle but consistent and Tanjiro knows all of them. They pick up on things about each other, they grow realistically annoyed and surprised and concerned and scared like they would if they were real instead of only Tanjiro's memories of them. Those kids feel so real to me, even if they are annoyingly overidealized in some parts as Tanjiro is letting himself get swept away. And just when he's managing to part from it to go face reality, Enmu makes more attack: he brings in Nezuko, trying to make it feel like there's no point in Tanjiro running at all. She's fine. There's nothing left for him to fight for. Everything's fine. And all over again, Tanjiro just stops. He KNOWS it's not real, but he's hurting so much to hear her voice again that he just sto-o-o-o-ps. And his desire to stay with the others catches up to him all over again, and he's tempted all over again to stay, EVEN KNOWING IT'S NOT REAL and there are very, very, very pressing matters to attend to. Even if it was all a little happy and idealized, more than anything, it felt like life always did. It's telling that when Tanjiro finally, FINALLY pulls away from that that time, he doesn't look back, and the family stops chasing him. This is Tanjiro accepting reality, however much it hurts. He's already had a couple years to accept this, but it was all overwhelming to get such a vivid taste of it again.
Tanjiro wants to do well to his organization and honor Urokodaki's training and avenge the fallen and prevent anyone else from being hurt and see an end to Kibutsuji Muzan and make Nezuko human again, but more than anything, he wants that simple life. And it's so, so heartwarming that at the end of the manga, he gets it.
It's not the same. It'll never be the same.
He never wanted a life with a sword, but he's been working so hard at it anyway.

WARMTH
— 𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐎𝐊𝐔 𝐊𝐘𝐎𝐉𝐔𝐑𝐎
genre: comfort fluff, a little angst at the start
warning: not much, just crying from stress :(
word count: 1k words
Tumblr media
Your sobs echoed throughout the empty room, filling the air as your resolve finally came crumbling down.
I can’t do it. I can’t do it. It’s all too much. I can’t do it.
The pressures of the world were bearing down on you, pushing you deeper into the ground until it felt like you were suffocating under all the stress. It only made you want to cry even more.
Suddenly, you heard footsteps outside your room and you immediately froze. Crap, did they hear you? You quickly wiped your eyes on your sleeve, wincing at the sharp sting that came when you rubbed them.
“Honey, I’m home!”
Shit.
You sucked in a breath, willing the soreness from your eyes to go away as his footsteps got closer to your bedroom. You tried to erase all signs of your sadness — fixing your hair, rolling back your shoulders — because you didn’t want him to worry about you. You didn’t want to be anymore trouble than you already were. You didn’t want to be another burden.
The door creaked open and you put on a plastic smile.
“Welcome back, Kyojuro!” you greeted in fake cheerfulness, hoping he wouldn’t pick up on the slight hoarseness of your voice.
“Hello darling. I’m sorry I took so long,” he apologised while setting down some plastic bags on the table, the contents in them almost spilling out when he let go.
“I thought I’d drop by the mart to get us some food before—” he paused as he finally turned to look at you. “Hey… were you crying?”
Rengoku’s eyebrows knitted together in concern, and worry was etched into every crevice of his face. You should’ve known he would have been able to tell.
You didn’t know what to say, your mind still foggy from all the tears you’d shed earlier. You were tired and exhausted, so you just stood there, speechless as Rengoku slowly approached you.
Before you could register what was happening, a pair of strong arms wrapped around you and engulfed you in a hug. It wasn’t too tight in that it made you feel suffocated, but it wasn’t too loose in that it felt like he didn’t care. It was... just right.
At first, your body was stiff against his chest, not knowing what you should do or how to react. You were so numb from crying so much. You didn’t want to think. You couldn’t. So all you could do was listen to the steady beating of his heart.
But Rengoku never let you go. He continued to embrace you, to shower you in his affection. Because he knew that love didn’t always come in the form of words. They could be shown through the simplest of actions too.
And when you finally realised the message of care he was trying to convey, a tear slipped from your eye and left a warm trail down your cheek.
You melted into his embrace, wrapping your arms around him and hugging him back as you cried into his shirt. He rubbed your back soothingly, calming you down as you let out all your emotions — real, raw and bare.
Rengoku never rushed you into speaking. He waited patiently for you to come down from your high, giving you all the time you needed as you underwent catharsis. Your crying slowly turned into sobs, which eventually turned into sniffles, until finally, there was a comfortable silence.
“Do you want to talk about it?” he asked, tenderly bringing a hand to your face to wipe away the last of your tears. You told him everything that was weighing on your heart, seeing no need to hold back anymore. You told him how tired and helpless you felt, and how life seemed to be getting too hard, pushing you around relentlessly every day.
“It’s just... it’s all too much Kyojuro,” you sighed, starting to get choked up with emotion. “I can’t take it. I can’t do it. It’s... it’s all too much.”
Your vision began to blur again, and Rengoku took the opportunity to gently wrap your hand in his large, strong ones.
“Look at me, Y/N,” he said softly, and you slowly raised your glassy eyes to meet his.
“You know I’ll always be here for you, right?”
You weren’t sure whether it was the fire in his bright orbs that burned only for you, or just the blatant reassurance that you could always lean on him whenever you were in trouble. Whatever it was, his declaration alone was enough to stir up the emotions in your heart, and make your chest swell once again.
You nodded meekly, trying to force down the lump in your throat.
“You don’t have to face things alone, my dear. I’ll be right by your side and we can figure this out, okay?” he smiled, bringing his hand up to carress your tear-stained cheek. “Together.”
You never knew one word could hold so much power, but you felt your heart clench. It was like you were in the presence of the sun. Your problems began to burn up in the blazing light, and you were finally able to see the horizon of infinite possibility. And under his unwavering gaze, you found the revelation you needed.
Life may be challenging alone, but with the strength of those around you, victory was surely within your reach.
With newfound hope in the promise of partnership, the sides of your mouth began to curl upwards and you nodded at him in agreement.
“Together.”
Rengoku grinned with pride, watching as a genuine smile settled on your lips and you wiped your eyes for the final time that day.
“Come here,” he said, opening his arms wide enough for you to crawl into them. You sat in his lap and wrapped your legs around his waist, resting your head on his chest as he held you close to his body.
His comforting scent surrounded you, as did the warmth that exuded from his affection. You inhaled deeply, breathing him in before exhaling all the tension within you. With the assurance of his steadfast love, you were finally able to let go of all your stress.
“I’ll carry you whenever you’re weak, Y/N,” he vowed, without a single hint of doubt in his voice. You smiled and nodded into his chest as he placed a soft, yet firm kiss on the top of your head — a silent seal of sincerity.
“I promise.”

Newman’s Anime Reviews - Kimetsu no Yaiba
Hello Everyone and welcome to my first anime review in… Nearly 4 years?
*Cough*
Yeah - I know - I am still supposed to write the Seven Witches review… I have no excuses. I will get to it. SOMEDAY!
But today I’m going to talk about another anime. The first title from my 2021 anime challenge.
Actually this is the only anime from the challenge list that I’ve picked myself because I’ve been intending to watch it for a while now.
I’m talking about
Kimetsu no Yaiba
Tumblr media
Now - I didn’t really know what I’m getting myself into. I’m not sure if this counts as an achievement but I didn’t know shit about this title outside of:
Some people I know highly recommended it to me,
Nezuko is the best girl (and a demon)
There’s some dude wearing boar’s head as a mask,
Swords
Apparently it’s about killing demons
This is everything. EVERYTHING I knew when I started watching.
First things first however - let's start with the premise.
We meet our protagonist - Kamaboko Gonpachiro as he’s living his harsh but happy life with his large family. Monjiro takes on the responsibility of caring for his mother and younger siblings as the oldest male in the family after his father’s death before the start of the plot.
We join our protagonist as he goes down the mountain to sell charcoal at the nearby village and promises to come back with a lot of goods and food for the New Year’s.
Right off the bat we’re presented with beautiful scenes of  a loving family life our protagonist enjoys and I’m not going to make any anime veteran jokes about it.
Long story short - Tontaro’s trip lasts longer than he expected and he ends up staying the night at the village. It is then that we learn about demons that prowl the night of Kimetsu no Yaiba world. Evil creatures of darkness that feed on the flesh of humans. We also learn about demon hunters who protect people from those demons.
Gengoro resumes his trip back early in the morning but thanks to his keen sense of smell soon realizes that something is wrong. Very wrong. He rushes forward to get back as soon as possible but it is already too late.
There was a demon attack during the night and his family got killed with the sole exception of his sister Nezuko who was turned into a demon.
Surprising a demon hunter who appears shortly after Nezuko manages to regain her senses and has strong enough will to resist attacking humans. Thus begins Kanjiro’s journey - to become a demon slayer himself, avenge his family, protect others from what happened to him and find a way to turn his sister back into a regular human.
Tumblr media
Sounds easy, right?
I’ll be honest here that while the beginning was executed beautifully I must admit that I wasn’t really feeling this anime right away.
It seemed like your standard shounen anime from the start. Greatly executed despite being very cliche but still not outstanding.
Tragedy to set our protagonists on their way followed by the training arc and Jangoro finally becoming a demon slayer while Nezuko changes in her own way to be able to live without consuming humans - surprising experienced demon slayers.
It is only after that that the real story begins and we follow Tanjiro as he starts his mission as a true demon slayer himself.
Truly basics of the basics if I were to be honest. At that point I couldn’t really complain about anything in this show but at the same time nothing really stood out. As mentioned - the story was cliche. The fights so far were so-so. Animation was good but at the same time I knew that Ufotable isn’t showing it’s best yet. Somehow however it all just worked - together with music which really played into my tastes - yes - I really enjoy the music in this show (make it the one thing i really liked at that point).
But then everything changed with the Asakusa Arc.
Tumblr media
Oh no! It’s Michael Jackson! RUN!
The introduction of the Big Bad Muzan, his Twelve Demon Moons and the possible way of turning Nezuko back into human set our vague goals in place and Kentaro finally had a clear mission to accomplish.
What’s more - from this point on the fights become far more entertaining as well.
I did get the impression that this progress might be done too rapidly but thinking back it’s a good thing actually. We got too used to 150 episodes of nothing important happening and now any sort of early development seems rapid.
Before you say that I contradict my statements from earlier reviews hear me out: While we do meet major antagonists early on we don’t really get much from it outside of direction in the story. The Big Bad doesn’t make a move himself and is not even fought directly but becomes aware of Tangoro’s existence and wants him gone.
This is a good development to happen early in the story to keep the stakes high while not resolving anything just yet.
But this is not the end of improvements.
In the following story arc (Tsuzumi Mansion Arc) Santarou meets with two fellow demon slayer newbies - Zenitsu and Insouke who add some team dynamics to our already decent story and IMO further improves the fights we get to see.
As for the new team members… Zenitsu starts out pretty annoying at first with his extremely cowardly demeanor while Inosuke is the polar opposite with a fearless, rash personality.
I might be overthinking it but I see Inosuke as a parody - of sorts - for a character I personally dislike - Kirito from SAO. Both are dual-wielding master swordsmen with a feminine face (and for added bonus they’re both voiced by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) but while Kirito’s strong because he’s the protag (Gary Stu) Inosuke is insanely ripped from his harsh life in the wilderness and… Well… Pretty much insane.
Tumblr media
Pretty amazing, aren’t I? Pretty amazing, aren’t I?
This change of pace - going from just Gentaro and Nezuko to a 4 man team with Zenitsu and Inosuke - marks the difference between the first and second half of this anime (and i forgot to mention it’s a whole 26 episodes show - not the 12 episodes short we got used to in recent years).
While the first half was kinda decent but not outstanding the second half is really, really entertaining to watch. Both the characters get a lot more chances at interaction and development and the action steps up from what we’ve seen before.
In short - two story arcs I’ve mentioned above supplemented what was lacking before. Things I wasn’t even clearly aware of initially.
Without a clear mission for Tenpachirou to accomplish we’d just descend into a monster-of-the-week formula and without more team members we’d be left with no means to explore our protagonists’ character in full.
What’s of Ponjirou extreme kindness if we don’t get to see him affect people with it outside of one-time-only interactions and his good relationship with his sister?
Yes - you can show it time and time again but from this point on it comes out more naturally and as I’ve mentioned already - we get to see it affect people in the long run - something I hope we’ll see further in the story.
Tumblr media
Left to right: Boss Honey Badger, Sleeping Badass, Best Girl and Cinnamon Roll.
Which brings me to this sad point…
Despite being a full 26 episodes show it still feels more like an introduction. We barely get to the right formula in the midpoint and conclude the fight against the first real enemy shortly before the anime is over. Souchirou’s journey has only just begun.
I’ve really wanted to write this review after watching the following Kimetsu no Yaiba Movie: Mugen Ressha-hen. That’s for multiple reasons.
At this point I know that this story arc is going to further up the stakes with the Upper Ranks of the Demon Moons getting into action but at the same time I’m really excited to see if Ufotable is going to show us what they’re capable of in terms of animation.
Because I think this anime deserves it.
Sadly - while the movie was out already I didn’t manage to watch it before writing this review.
Tumblr media
Kamado Tanjirou vs Lower Moon One - Enmu.
To sum it up - It was an interesting experience to see the anime develop in front of me - from a decent cliche show that didn’t make any major mistakes and played all the tropes just right into a really good and entertaining show in it’s own right.
My final assessment of the show is also the result of a certain niche this anime fits into. Namely the enjoyable sword fight scenes.
I’m definitely going to watch the movie when I’m able to and dive right into the following seasons of anime if they are made.
At this point something with this anime resonates with me - this show feels “just right” for some reason.
There’s also an added benefit of it not being dragged into infinity. From what I’ve heard the manga is already finished and we could get a definite end line before the story gets watered down into tasteless money grab.
Something to be appreciated when it comes to shounen manga…
Well. It is time to wrap up this review as well.
With all the above being said my final verdict is...
Final Score: 8/10  +Newman’s Mark of Quality
Status: Completed
Sentence: Butterfly Mansion rehabilitation training (I bet I’d enjoy it after a while).
 Next: Code Geass

Kyojuro Rengoku’s Victory
Tumblr media
Kyojuro Rengoku, the flame hashira, is first introduced during the latter episodes of the Demon Slayer TV series. With wide eyes and a resolute style of talking, he comes across as simple-minded, and so is an unexpected selection to be at the center of the first movie in the franchise. More unexpected, still, is that as Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train demonstrates, there’s much depth to Kyojuro, and his strength is surpassed by only his heart, making him, in fact, the perfect character to headline a film that provides plenty of andrenaline-pumping scenes, but an even weightier sense of spirit and love, as Kyojuro’s convictions and action help redefine and refocus our ideas of what victory looks like and what it can be (spoilers ahead).
Those unfamiliar with the manga may be startled by the scenes late in the film. By this point, the primary action seems complete; Kyojuro has, aided by Tanjirou, Inosuke, Zenitsu, and Nezuko, defeated the lower kizuki, Enmu, while also accomplishing his goal of saving all 200 passengers and crew aboard the train. However, the sudden appearance of an upper kizuki—the number three one in fact, Akaza—puts the heroes and survivors again in a perilous place. Although Kyojuro’s skills match and maybe surpass Akaza’s, he doesn’t have the demon’s distinct advantage of healing from wounds in an instant. After taking a more serious approach, Akaza wounds Kyojuro mortally. However, even with failing strength, Kyojuro traps Akaza by the kizuki’s very own fist lodged inside the hashira’s body while he attempts to slice off the demon’s head. Akaza, for his part, is less fearful of the slow cutting than of the rapidly rising sun, which could quickly disintegrate him. He is eventually able to extricate himself from the situation and run for cover in the nearby forest.
An angry Tanjirou, who’d been laying to the side hobbled from injuries, throws his blade at Akaza, which lodges into his body, and yells after him:
The Demon Slayer Corps are flesh-and-blood humans! Our wounds don’t close quickly! Lost limbs don’t grow back! And yet you’ll only fight us in the dark of night when you have the advantage….coward! You’re afraid to admit you haven’t won today! Rengoku hasn’t lost! Rengoku is stronger—much stronger than you! He didn’t let anyone die! He saw the fight through to the end! He protected the rest of us! This is your defeat! And the victory belongs to Rengoku!
Through tears and rage, Tanjirou declares Kyojuro the victor. But it seems a shallow sentiment, for after all, Azaka runs away to live another day while he wounds Kyojuro in such a way that the flame hashira will die. There are no cheers or celebration at the end of this fight—only tears and frustration. Even Inosuke, who holds such pride in being tough, sobs uncontrollably. He, along with Tanjirou and Zenitsu, had become intimately connected to Kyojuro in their short time together. In fact, near the beginning of their trip after Kyojuro quickly and emphatically dispatches with two minor demons, all three ask to become his disciples, and he welcomes them as such.
Tumblr media
Now, the discipleship is over as soon as it started, before Kyojuro even learned his disciple’s names. He gives a few final pieces of advice, makes his last requests, and passes away.
Tanjirou seems to have made an assessment that clearly isn’t right, the blind call of a soul too pure to see reality. The movie even seems to indicate this idea that Tanjirou is too wholesome and possibly too good for us to really relate to: When Enmu puts the heroes to sleep and uses young people to drift into their dreams with a mission is to destroy the demon slayers’ cores, ultimately killing them, the one who goes into Tanjirou’s dreams is profoundly affected by how beautiful his subconscious is, and is transformed by the clarity of Tanjirou’s soul. The inspiring and optimistic Tanjirou would of course be the one to put such a noble spin on Kyojuro’s death.
If anything, it’s the strangest character, the boar-masked Inosuke, that’s maybe most relatable among the three disciples. He’s full of flaws and prone to emotional outbursts. When one of the Mugen employees stabs Tanjirou, resulting in a wound that very nearly causes his death, Inosuke desires vengeance, wanting to let the man die when the train derails and traps him, though the kind-hearted Tanjirou begs Inosuke to help him instead. The demon slayer is incredulous, and more than once says that they should let the perpetrator die. How very like us—or at least like me, in how I speaks words of anger and hate against those that wound me, whether directly, indirectly, of even in some imagined way.
The disciple Inosuke reminds me of the disciple Peter, the hot-headed apostle who was a Zealot and revolutionary, capable of profound faith and also one who would dare to chide his master—an action which happened because, as Jesus stated, Peter didn’t have the Father’s thoughts in mind, but rather the world’s. Likewise, Inosuke wasn’t thinking of his master’s will; Kyojuro wanted to save everyone aboard, even those who aided Enmu.
And as Peter didn’t realize that Christ would eventually need to be crucified, to allow himself to be executed by a people that were filled by the devil’s spirit, sometimes literally, Inosuke doesn’t see the truth that Tanjirou does and expresses in his call to Azaka: There’s something more here than what can be immediately seen. There is a plan, and the evil that occurs in the meantime does not alter it. Kyojuro desires that all 200 people on board the Mugen be saved. That is his mission, as it was Christ’s mission to offer salvation to a people who had no other way to attain it, even if it meant that he would have to bear an unjust and tortuous death to provide it to us. Jesus went to the cross because his destruction would be followed by life, for him and for any who believe. There was more to the plan than Peter and the other disciples could see in that moment.
There was more, too, than Inosuke could see. In fact, Tanjirou could not see the future either, all that would come out of that awful day (spoilers ahead for the rest of the series). The movie hints at a brighter future by the short scenes that depict the other hashira as they mourn or otherwise consider Kyojuro’s death, and with Ubuyashiki, who at the beginning of the film is downcast as he walks through a cemetery of fallen demon slayers but at the finale, after hearing of the flame hashira’s death, says he is not sad.
How could the “father” to the hashira and all demon slayers not be crushed by Kyojuro’s death?
In a most unexpected way—one that I believe Ubuyashiki could see—Kyojuro’s death provides hope. The entire scenario showed Ubuyashiki something, namely that Muzan is scared. He sends Akaza, having become aggressive and possibly incautious, particularly in light of recently interacting with Tanjirou. Meanwhile, the hashira are further inflamed at their colleague’s demise—a respect for and in some cases, intimacy with Kyojuro gives them even more drive not only to continue their work, but to destroy the kizuki and Muzan once and for all. They will give their lives as necessary—many, in fact, will—and without hesitation if it helps them accomplish that ultimate goal. And in doing so, they will follow a model. They will follow Kyojuro.
Tumblr media
Peter, who foolishly talked down to Christ and then later ran away after making bold proclamations that he would stand by him, would one day lead the church and be executed for his faith. So, too, would many of the other disciples. They would be strengthened by the Holy Spirit and seeing Christ himself after the resurrection, a 180 degree turn from hiding in a room in the days following the crucifixion.
I wonder, too, about the other side. I wonder how the devil felt that day in Jerusalem. Was he full of pride and joy at Christ’s death? Or did he feel desperate, like Muzan? Did he begin to run like Akaza, knowing that his end could be near? Regardless, the truth for both Akaza and Satan is the same—victory was secured on that day of death, but not for the demons, not for those that survived the day’s assult.
The one who died was the victor, and the ending was already sealed.
This is your defeat! And the victory belongs to Rengoku!
For you see, victory was not determined that day—in either anime or in life—by the results of a physical altercation, but by another way altogether. After all, Kyojuro could have killed Akaza. He is powerful, a better and much smarter fighter than Akaza, and had he been willing to do whatever was needed to defeat his opponent, including sacrificing Tanjirou and others, it would have given him the edge he needed. He was, after all, mere seconds away from killing the demon, this despite his injuries, this despite saving everybody.
But his wish, as is Christ’s, is that everyone be saved. Kyojuro chose love. Christ chose love.
Death may seem like the end, it may seem like defeat, but it is not—for love conquers all, even death.
This is comfort to the believer. In a world so full evil, in such disarray—unrest at home, massacres abroad, and death and hatred everywhere—there is victory, if we have eyes to see it. Even in “defeat,” there is hope. Christ’s life, death, and resurrection is that hope for us, that which we can remember and depend on. Victory is neither out of our grasps nor something to only look forward to. It has happened. It is here.
And like Tanjirou, we can yell at the enemy, encourage our comrades, and uphold our own hearts, as we scream into the night and the demon that dwells there: “This is your defeat! And the victory belongs to Christ!“

Welcome to the Official blog for the fanfic "Kimetsu No Yaiba - Kaminari To Honou No", a canon-divergent fanfic in development, created by KanisHominiLupus (mostly known as @Kanis_KHL on twitter).
Please read all the info below, as this post will probably contain all you need to know about the series.
Who is behind this whole thing?
Important mention that this fanfiction is based into the original Kimetsu No Yaiba / Demon Slayer series, created by Koyoharu Gotōge. However, the characters Akira Ran, Asdor Pellorubro and their mysterious Master, as well as a few other unamed individuals are creation and property of Akira Ran, under the pen name of KanisHominiLupus. I am a 28yo brazilian, queer, freelancer artist and hobbist writter. My pronouns are she/they and I would appreciate to be referred by these only.
Where can I see more of your work or support you? (Related or not to this specific project)
What is this fic about?
"Kimetsu No Yaiba - Kaminari To Honou No" (also named as "Demon Slayer - Of Thunders And Flames") is a fanfiction centered on two original characters (Akira Ran & Asdor Pellorubro) in alternative universe version of their own story' selves. Another important character to this plot, their Master, is also another of my OCs under the same kind of revamp. This tale has their adventures, struggles, battles, dramas and dilemas, as well as their connections with canon characters from the official KNY series. The first arc of the fanfic happens quite a while before the admission of Tanjiro Kamado and his crew in the Demon Slayer Corps', while the second arc starts probably few months before the Mugen Train Arc. While I say this, neither Akira nor Asdor have relevant interactions with the main crew of protagonists, so if you expect to read about the main four here, better not have high hopes, at least for now.
So, is this a OC X Canon fanfic?
Yes. And despite my artistic name being the same of my OC, this is not a self-insert tale. So if you are not fond of reading about such thing, I advise you to simply ignore this blog and follow with your life before you regret and start saying mean things. There are a few original facts in this (new locations, new allies, new adventures), but the same old allies and enemies as well. Not to brag but some people have said it is so well merged that it could be a canon spinoff. So, who knows if you will like it, uh?
How much of canon divergent content is in this story?
A lot. Mostly my own interpretation of some situations and the two OCs of mine messing with at least half of the original plot. Telling me that I should simply have written my own full original thing will not stop me to write or post this, lmao. Maybe if you pay me a few million dollars... Jokes aside, some people might love and hate this fanfic because plenty of the characters will end alive, differently from the original series. This is the only spoiler I will give to you about the plot ;)
What made you write this fanfic?
Me and some friends got very sad about some of the canon events, and one friend in particular was completely hopeless after the death of a character. Seeing this fueled me with motivation to try on thinking how the story could have progressed without so much tragedy, and then it was a matter of time until I started to do what I am pretty used to do: Throw my OCs in a universe and meddle with it until I am satisfied enough. Back in the past, when I was starting, a lot of fandom hate scared me away from writing, but now, over my twenties, I simply said "Fuck it. Be mean, get the block.". Friendly advice: produce the content you will enjoy to see, and disregard the meanies. Most of the time they are just envy as fuck because they didn't had such a brilliant idea as yours, or just have nothing better to do than to harm other people's feelings. As long as you are not harming no one IRL and not being a offensive little piece of shit, just have fun with your creative endeavours.
Where can I read this fanfic?
It will start to be shared online as soon as I fully finish the first arc, and the second arc is outlined. At the end of September 2021, I have 9 chapters complete and ready to sail. Yes, this means that in the date of this first post here, you still cannot read it online. I am in a few discord servers where snippets and excerpts are being posted, so if you are lucky to be in one of these servers, then you probably have seen my ramblings about it. I am unsure if the fanfic will be posted here as well or just on AO3, maybe even both. Either way, if it gets shared outside, I will bring the link here.
What can I expect of this fanfic? tags, genre, etc...
All the tags of the original source, KNY. This means adventure, action, comedy, fantasy, supernatural, monsters, body horror, gore, violence, psychological dives (such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, etc), but surely fewer deaths than the original source. The only reason I could add a "Dead Dove, Don't Look" warning is due to some graphic descriptions of violence and the OCxCanon interactions that some people hate. I would appreciate if you are a minor wanting to read this fic, please don't. I don't want to traumatize you with a graphic description of a demon eating a human alive (yes, this is bound to happen in this fic. Bruh, it is KNY after all). Plus I am very uncomfortable to interact with minors. With every chapter, I will disponibilize a summary, a tag list and important warnings related to each chapter, just so you don't end jumpscared.
Will this blog be used only for sharing the fanfic when there are updates?
No! This blog, as the name suggests, will be it's main source of content, so not just the links and the fanfic will be shared here, but my own related artworks too. You can also send asks about the story and requests to see cool interactions between Akira & Asdor, their mysterious Master, and the other canon characters. During October, I will also attempt to do a KNY-themed drawtober! Thought do not expect this blog to be a fanart hub in its totality. Artworks portraying gore and Psychologic trauma related themes may also be present, but properly tagged.
Is this a FAQ?
In some way, yes. I could instead call this post a IQL (Important Questions' List), but FAQ is more obvious... Check the tag #knykthnfaq, send me asks or just DM in case of any doubts.

“And when you’re not around I keep thinking I might cry.” for sweetiepie Kyou-kun!!
Tumblr media
Sweetiepie sunny boi Kyou!! My baby!! Of course, I have such a sweet scenario here!! “And when you’re not around I keep thinking I might cry.” Having the Flame Hashira as your boyfriend surely was such a blessing. Spening time with lovable respectful man, something you wished to do every day of your life. It was just impossible to be away from Rengoku Kyoujuro, the man was just someone to be besides all the time, he never lashed out, he never treated someone horribly just because he wanted, the only times where he got upset was when facing those horrible demons. And you really never really wanted to be separated from your love, not at all. If he had to go on missions for sometime, like a child stopping their mother from going away, you riushed up to him and grasped the back of his haori, but you also had your dignity and you wouldn’t tell him the reason behind your actions, Kyoujuro often mistook them by you wanting to be playful with him before he left for days, it was often a chuckle from him and twirl for you after placing you down and kissing you then he left. You would often become so sad, so sad that you thought on crying till he get back. Of course seeing his little brother, only gave you more sadness and loneliness because he did look like a kid version of Kyoujuro and well, you needed the real Kyou besides you to hold you and pepper you in caresses and sweet soothing words. Senjuro only made you want to cry. It happened only once when the young boy came to you and offered you some tea with riceballs. You turned to see him briefly and the shy smile that he gave you automatically made you to sob a little, but you hid well the fact so you didn’t unintentionally hurt Senjuro’s feelings. It usually was an issue seeing Kyoujuro go, you couldn’t help it, and you also couldn’t get yourself to tell your issue to him. Kyoujuro in the other hand was clueless, you seemed always so cheerful and clingy to him that he didn’t take your clingy behavior to as you don’t wanting to leave you behind. He was just pure laughs and happy stares. “(Name)-chan do you want to koala hug me now, hm? Sorry I’ve got an important mission! But I’ll get back the same day and after that, I’ll hug you to infinity my sunshine!” And then you had to put on your most believable fake happy stare to hide your inward agony and sadness, your love had to go again. This was a usual occurence, but you really wanted your man besides you only, as selfish as that may sound, you just loved him everyday, more and more, because he was true to his word, when he came back the first thing he always did despite his exhaustion and wish to just flop into bed was cuddle you, hold you and coo a world of happy, loving and and soothing phrases, while your hair and face was caressed with the most delicate touch ever. So it was impossible for you to get separate from your beloved Kyou. “So, I’m to leave again tomorrow? The Mugen Train?” You heard him speak with the Kasugai Crow that flew over to the household to tell over the mission. Again you felt saddened, tomorrow you would see him go again, your eyes watered slightly at the thought of him going away. Why do you have to always go away, Kyoujuro, my love? That was the question you couldn’t get to ask him. And this time your slightly wet eyes were noticed by Young Senjuro who was currently sweeping the floor, he frowned and timidly walked over to you. “Um..(Name)-san? Is something bothering you?” At the new voice asking, you whirled and were met with Rengoku Senjuro’s worried eyes. You sighed; you couldn’t lie now, because your sad teary eyes were discovered, so you had to be honest with the boy. “Well, Senjuro-kun, Kyoujuro is to leave tomorrow... once again and I’m to be lonely again..” Senjuro frowned, he also felt a little saddened with his brother leaving, but pushed that feeling aside and turned his attention to you. “(Name)-san, in order for you to feel better, maybe you could tell Nii-chan how you feel, having his words of courage will help you.” And well the boy was right, some words from your love could put you a little more at ease. “That’s actually a good idea, Sen-kun, I will do that...” You smiled at the boy and ruffled his curly hair. At the moment Kyoujuro was walking by and spotted (name) and Senjuro speaking, he smiled. “Having a talk, I see.” He chuckled, as Senjuro lightly nudged you and nodded at you. “Kyou, darling? We need to talk,” You said timidly, playing with hem of your kimono. “Hm? Oh sure, what is it, that you need to tell me, sunshine?” He asked as he led you to your private room, after ruffling his brother’s hair and thumbing up to him. Entering the room, Kyoujuro slid the doors close and moved with you to sit out. You gathered all your courage to tell your love what was the issue. “Kyou-kun... well...” You stuttered a bit, it was easier said than made, you couldn’t work out your words.
“What is it, my beauty? Don’t be shy, you know that you can tell me anything, I will listen to you!” Kyoujuro always made it all better, that was for sure, so seeing his smile and how he grabbed your hand in his own, rubbing his thumbs over the back of it, finally said it.
“Well, my flame, I love you so much, so much, I can’t help but just want to be with you at all times...  And when you’re not around I keep thinking I might cry.”
Kyoujuro listened to you and understood all now. Your clingy behavior, the way you tried to put a smile in your saddened face, he caught it one day but he didn’t say anything, but everything made sense now; you didn’t want him to go on all the time, you felt lonely and sad. Now it was tim to reassure you. He wrapped his arms around you and brought you close to his chest, caressing your hair.
“My sunshine, I am so sorry, I keep going on missions and leaving you behind, but I’m a Hashira and it’s my duty keep everyone safe, including you. Of course you came first above all things. I’m deeply sorry for causing loneliness..And I’ll have to do it again, tomorrow, new mission. Don’t be sad though, we can be together the rest of this day” He spoke to you in such a lovingly sweet manner, you couldn’t really be upset, you’d be spending the rest of today with the man you loved.
“Thank you, my darling, I’d love to,”
And so Kyou and you did everything that you both could today.

CARNIVAL DAY recaps [10/13]
Today’s recap: Finally some explanations, or: the R language, bulls and deers and horses, and everything’s connected.
--
FIFTY-ONE
26 Jul 1997 — 01 Aug 1997
LABYRINTH
--
(Amagi Hyouma was one of RISE’s guests along with Ryuuguu Otohime, Tsukumo Nemu, Christmas Mizuno, Yaiba Somahito, Diana Hosey, Hanto Maimu & Kuraimu. During their time in the Sanctuary, they learned the identities of the Rainbow Sophists.
Below is Amagi Hyouma’s testimony. [Originally in first person.])
Hyouma had never seen this Fabian woman before, but she seemed to believe (or convincingly pretended to believe) that he was Yemon. She claimed she didn’t know any Yakuma Suzume.
Well, it was true that Yakuma hadn’t shown himself since that day when Hyouma had been taken to the Sanctuary. White even said Yakuma was “no longer here”.
Hyouma pointed out how weird it was that only JDC-related people were chosen to be RISE’s guests. Fabian answered that they didn’t need anyone else; JDC was important, even more so considering the Billion Killer had chosen them for his first attack. Japan would play a great role in the events too, especially the Japanese language. R language had a very similar base to Japanese, but was much more fluid and freestyle, resembling the kind of language young people in Japan spoke these days. Basically, Fabian claimed that Hyouma had been already unknowingly using R language.
Just like Japanese words are often written and pronounced in many different ways, R language also has “the rule of no rules”. For example, the tower of the Moonbow Palace is called Tow Dreamer, a mix of English-like words “tower” and “dreamer”. However, this name is written 夢幻想塔, which would normally be read mugensoutou. The kanji convey “a tower where one can dream”, and mugensoutou also points to the infinitude (mugen written 無限) of their fuhrer (soutou written 総統).
...which sounded horribly farfetched to Hyouma. Was this entire R language just puns? Fabian claimed that it conveyed the entire history of humanity, and using it—seeing the meaning hidden in Japanese words—could help uncovering the world’s secrets.
At least they got an explanation for why all the guests were young adults from Japan [Yaiba is like forty, but I guess he still counts]. Diana Hosey came from the USA, but she had been secretly taught R language by her father Theodore, who always told her it was just Japanese.
--
Done with their conversations with the Sophists, all the guests returned to the round table and talked about what they had learned.
Since the Rainbow Sophists had been wearing masks and acting like the S-detectives all the time, none of them knew the true identities of the others before (only RS and the Master had known). This round table talk was the first time they learned about who their fellow executives were.
Yellow Bishop turned out not to be Ajiro after all. But then where was Ajiro? He’d been missing ever since the explosion. Hanto Maimu got that strange phone call allegedly from Ajiro, but it was just Tanna Sazen using his voice mimicry. Tanna would sometimes pretend to be White, and other times share a single role of Yellow Bishop with Theodore Hosey. (There was a bit of chaos when Tanna was chased off a cliff that one time, but he knew how to survive the fall, and then he simply cancelled the pursuit by calling the pursuers as Yellow Bishop.) Tanna hadn’t anticipated his child would inherit his knowledge, so RISE investigated the Hantos just in case.
Everyone wanted to know where Ajiro was (Hyouma especially). Yaiba had come up with a theory almost by accident. Back when he had been in Russia, the boy Amano noticed the number on the train engine was 999, which was 666 upside down. Inspired by this, Yaiba thought of the word Russia (Ro-shi-a), also turned it around, and it became A-shi-ro… Ajiro. Maybe Ajiro and Russia were connected? This would be just a ridiculous wordplay in any other situation, but Hyouma couldn’t laugh it off now that he’d been told about R language.
Seeing that the detectives wouldn’t leave the topic alone, Black said they would have a chance to see Ajiro soon.
Indeed, when they met by the round table some time afterwards (with Black, Red, and the real White also present), Ajiro was there and alive. However, he was seated in a wheelchair, unmoving and unresponsive, his eyes completely unfocused, like an empty shell of a person. White explained that they had been keeping him locked on the Russian space station Mir. No proper astronaut training and long-term isolation resulted in this sorry state. White claimed they had had no choice but to keep Ajiro in space, just like they had to drag Christmas through hell, and that it was all for the future of humanity.
It wasn’t impossible for Ajiro to return to his former self, but it would require everyone’s help. Maybe his friends would manage to break through the mental wall that kept him isolated from the outside world, and Ajiro would go back to being the JDC representative they know and love.
And speaking of JDC… White casually informed them that JDC had been created by RISE. Not directly created, mind you—that was Ajiro’s doing—but RISE had pulled all the necessary strings to cause the events to run like they wanted.
The Ajiro Family Murder Case, the Saimon Family Murder Case, the Geneijo Murder Case and the Locked Room Lord Murder Case, the bombing of JDC—all of them had more meaning than the detectives suspected.
If they wanted to know more, they should get around to bringing Ajiro back to his former glory.
--
No matter how much they talked to Ajiro, he wouldn’t respond, but they never gave up. They recounted their times together at JDC, both joyful and sad. They all stayed in the same room with him as long as they could, then established shifts.
Two weeks passed and nothing changed. They even got a pack of Ajiro’s favorite cigars and put it in his lap, but he still didn’t react.
At the end of a shift, Yaiba left the room to call the next pair, leaving Hyouma alone with Ajiro. Though Hyouma had stopped smoking a few years ago, in this depressing situation he decided to help himself to a cigar, which mostly resulted in a fit of coughing. Then he noticed something—tears were running down Ajiro’s cheeks. Unsure of whether or not this was just an instinctual reaction to smoke, Hyouma experimented some more, until Yaiba came back with Otohime and Nemu and yelled at him for tormenting the patient with smoke—but then Ajiro just slightly moved his finger. After a short time of Hyouma desperately calling his name, Ajiro slowly moved his hand, then wiped his own tears.
“...don’t have to be so loud…” he murmured. “...I can hear you…”
--
Ajiro’s mind was back in working order in a few days more, but he still had to undergo two weeks of physical rehabilitation. He told everyone that he’d been able to hear everything they said to him even when he couldn’t respond, and he promised to do his best to help them solve all the mysteries around.
At the beginning of June, they all sat at the round table: Ajiro, Hyouma, Yaiba, Nemu, Otohime, Maimu with Kuraimu, Diana, Christmas, and also Black, White and Red. With Ajiro around, it felt strangely like yet another meeting at JDC.
Ajiro recalled the day of the JDC explosion. He clearly remembered sitting at his desk, his assistant Mito Muramasa working nearby. Then came a rumble and vibrations like an earthquake—and then Ajiro was suddenly floating in a small room in outer space. He did consider the possibility that he’d been rendered unconscious by the explosion and then transported to space, but it seemed to him like there had been no lapse in his consciousness. He really was just instantly transported from Kyoto to the space station. But how?
White only replied that there was a lot the guests didn’t know about the world. When people saw something they couldn’t understand, they would often give up on thinking and just believe in transcendent beings.
White tried to move to the topic of Beasts and Gods (or rather, those two groups and a third type that is neither), but he could see that Ajiro was more interested in how much influence RISE had on JDC, so Beasts and Gods would have to wait.
Ajiro could see how RISE could have been the masterminds behind Geneijo and the Locked Room Lord. But what could they gain from the family cases of the Ajiros and the Saimons? It’s true that his own family’s case had inspired him to create Nihon Tantei Club. It was also the first time he came in contact with Saimon Ryuusui, which would lead to getting involved in solving the Saimon murders.
White added that after that case, Nihon Tantei Club was renamed to JDC. Both the organization and Ajiro became famous as the ones who solved “the crime revolution” that was the Saimon Family Murder Case. Basically, had that case not happened, JDC would need much more time to become well-known.
All those great cases also led to Tsukumo Juku becoming famous and revered. The one who contributed to solving the Saimon Family Murder Case! The one who solved both Geneijo and the Locked Room Lord! Propelled by the trust and popularity given to JDC and Ajiro, Tsukumo Juku quickly gathered recognition as the God of Detectives.
And that was exactly what RISE wanted. They needed to raise Tsukumo Juku to become the world’s greatest detective so he could stop the Crime Olympics. That was RISE’s end goal, after all—it’s not them who wanted to kill everyone, but “the union of 666 worst evils”, Akuren.
(This was the first time the detectives heard the name Akuren, so Black Rook explained more about it—see Black Rook’s testimony from earlier.)
Way back when, RISE realized that Akuren was about to attempt the destruction of humanity once more. RISE got their hands on the Crime Olympics plan so they could hopefully mitigate the impact. Back then, the plan was a bit different; the Crime Olympics were supposed to start in July 1999 and last seven months, resulting in the human race being wiped out by February 2000. The Crime Olympics were eventually moved to three years earlier.
In order for RISE’s own plans to work, they had to keep Akuren’s trust, and so had no choice but to really prepare the Crime Olympics using their trump cards of Alive, the Billion Killer, and the Cosmic Bomb. Thankfully, Akuren didn’t plan on killing everyone instantly—they wanted to drown humanity in evil and despair first—and they determined a time limit before the Cosmic Bomb would drop.
Akuren wanted to make sure everything would go smoothly, so they sent one of them to oversee RISE’s actions—a man with the code name Tsukumo Jaki. He was actually White’s younger brother, Endou Masato. The detectives may have known him as their fellow Yakuma Suzume (actually an imposter).
Christmas wondered whether that minotaur “Great King Enma” he had met wasn’t also this fake Yakuma. According to legends, if you lied to Lord Enma, he would cut off your tongue. This could be connected through a wordplay to the Tongue-cut Sparrow, Shita-kiri Suzume, the same folk tale that Juku had used to guess that Jaki was Yakuma Suzume. Also, the first kanji of the name Yakuma (役間) could be read as en, making the entire name Enma. (Again, this seemed like just another strange wordplay, but knowing all that stuff about R Language…)
What about the horse mask man and the deer mask man that had assisted Enma? Otohime recalled that the short story Another Joker had a horse and a deer in it. That was specifically a man-eating horse, so maybe it was a hint about all the cannibalism in Shangri-La.
Lemuria admitted he’d been the one wearing the deer mask. He stated he was actually Jaki’s loyal underling, and it had been on Jaki’s orders that he first entered RISE and became Red Knight. The horse mask man who cooperated closely with him and Jaki was someone the detectives didn’t know. He had stayed behind and died in Shangri-La, as his role in the plan had ended—just like the horse in Another Joker, he ended up reduced to a pile of bones.
All those animal masks… Why would Minase Nagisa wear a bull mask when she killed Juku? Sullivan explained that the mask was the symbol of RISE’s leader, something they had inherited from the organization before them. Similarly, RISE’s second and third in charge were a deer and a horse. The bull mask symbolized that the wearer’s actions were done in the name of RISE’s leader. Nagisa was chosen to kill Juku because of her hatred for the man and her familiarity with the terrain around Gensoukan, and though she died from Alive in the process, she managed to fulfill her mission. Jaki’s true goal in killing Juku was stopping RISE’s secret plans—preventing the God of Detectives from ending the Crime Olympics early.
But why would Nagisa hate Juku so much? Black explained that when Juku had solved the Locked Room Lord case, Nagisa’s brother Dakushoin Ryuusui’s name was irreparably tarnished. Juku even personally confronted Nagisa afterwards and stopped her from hiding critical evidence. Cosmic and Joker further hurt Dakushoin’s reputation. With all that frustration already present in Nagisa, Jaki just had to redirect it all towards Juku.
But there was another reason why Nagisa wanted to kill Juku, the same reason why Fuumonji Jouka was killed, and it would be protecting someone’s (the third writer’s) true identity—but that would be explained later.
Ajiro noticed that something didn’t seem right. If Lemuria Sullivan really was working together with Jaki, that is with Akuren, then why were Black and White casually discussing RISE’s plans right in front of him? White admitted that no matter how stealthy RISE tried to be, Akuren still managed to know their every step, so there was really no point in hiding their true goal anymore. Both groups knew the other was ultimately an enemy, but RISE was still useful. After all, it’d be hard for Akuren to achieve their goal without the Cosmic Bomb.
Ajiro stated that it all seemed to have a single point of origin to him, though he didn’t yet know what it was exactly. RISE, the Sanctuary, the Billion Killer cases, Alive, the Cosmic Bomb, Beasts and Gods… White only responded that they would learn everything later. For now, they would make a short stop in the Moonbow Palace, and then the detectives would be taken to Heaven / El Dorado in the depths of the Mariana Trench.
With this, the meeting concluded. When Hyouma saw the news afterwards, he learned that Yuiga Dokuson had disappeared after leaving a strange message that he was the Billion Killer. However, Black said that Dokuson’s actions had nothing to do with RISE, and that it was still too early to talk about the actual Billion Killer.

(And in the latest news…)
...the number of Alive victims have been falling since New Years and finally reached zero in July. It’s estimated that 240 million people died from Alive, making it the worst pandemic to date. WHO and CDC announce the end of Alive, but warn that it can possibly come back. It’s still unknown how the number of infections diminished so rapidly without a vaccine in place.
