Me interpreting the environment 🦈
Hey friends!
Recently, I rediscovered my appreciation for going on walks. Starting this fall semester, I committed my time to performing fascinating food chemistry testing for safe human consumption. This new experience has been captivating and quickly rewarding, not only diversifying my knowledge in career agriculture but also connecting me with a passionate community. My time spent inside has made my lunch breaks and evening extra special as I am able to take a moment to go on a nature stroll. Giving myself a moment to relax in nature has been a great energy boost to stay motivated through the week. How have you all felt nature impact your mood? Do you have certain nature activities that bring you more positivity?
Learning about sharks significantly uplifts my spirit. In a deep-dive researching ocean wildlife NGOs I came across @ oneoceanhawaii.  Their mission deeply resonated with me and served as inspiration to become involved in marine and shark interpretation. I'd love to hear about any ocean or nature-focused NGOs that inspire you as well.
Becoming a marine interpreter will not only allow me to live close to the sea but also keep me connected with both nature and myself. Our adventure would commence in a marine-shark museum, complete with captivating art, informative descriptions, and storytelling elements for our guests. The second part of our journey would entail a shark-watching boat excursion where we would share stories and knowledge about the ocean and its incredible species.  Cultivating understanding through experiences and building a community is the kind of adventure I aspire to create and support, empowering others to find appreciation and peace in nature. It’s important to remember playing outside and allowing yourself to enjoy your surroundings is a grounding and rejuvenating activity for us at all ages.
To make this aspiration a reality, I plan to deepen my understanding of sharks from various angles. This journey involves delving even deeper into the social, scientific, and economic dimensions of these extraordinary creatures. Investigating the realm of shark conservation through a thorough exploration of scientific journals, books, and multimedia resources continues to be a valuable tool for expanding my perspective on shark conservation.  Additionally, I plan to advance my ability to express my own adoration through appealing individual learning needs and styles. A balance of sustaining community engagement and relaying  knowledge in multiple well-received forms is important for inspirational exchanges.
I look forward to hearing about your ambitions to inspire our nature community!

Here’s a video post from one of our wonderful One Ocean guests @kathi.rinchen from earlier this year ✨🤗 Most believe swimming with sharks would be some really intense adrenaline rush (which sure, you may still find a trace of that on our dives, especially at first), but many guests are surprised at how oddly calming and tranquil the experience is. We hope that through our tours, we can shed a more positive and realistic light on these wild animals & educate more people on shark safety, respect, and conservation. “...8 month ago.. 🦈 hope to see you beauties soon again 💙 Mahalo @oneoceandiving #shark #snorkeling #oneoceandiving #oneoceanresearch #oneoceanhawaii #savesharks #hawaii #tb #bestdayever” (at Oneoceandiving.com) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1xSNe9nvCn/?igshid=1hguflkfcj69c

"The Great Ocean Travellers" - || @maestro320 's Notes: This post and incredible footage was filmed not long ago off the Coast of Oahu, Hawaii courtesy of Our Co-Founder, Passionate Shark Conservationist and Ethologist, Designer. Model, Business Entrepreneur, Divemaster and World Class Freediver, Lead Marine Biologist at One Ocean Diving and Research @oneoceandiving / @oneoceanresearch , Ocean Ramsey @oceanramsey - I think it’s so incredible how some of the same #great Whites sharks I’ve studied in Mexico for over a decade also swim all the way out to Hawaii 💙 Hope to see some of these beautiful ones this week in Mexico, on these annual expeditions, or in Hawaii this winter 😉💙🦈💙 Footage shot @oneoceanhawaii at home in #hawaii this year. One of absolute best moments of my life I will forever be grateful and smiling in memory of. #savesharks #helpsavesharks #grandmagreatwhite #grandma #aumakua with @oneoceandiving @oneoceanresearch @juansharks ❤️ @forrest.in.focus @mermaid_kayleigh @camgrantphotography #sharkohana #manō #ManōOhana @oneoceanglobal Using @iphone @axisgo @gopro @aquatech_imagingsolutions @nauticamhousings and @geneinno #underwaterdrone for #deepwater studies #shark #sharks #greatwhiteshark #savetheocean #discoversharks #grateful #happy #thrilled #elated #best #conservationphotography #wild #sharkwithdolphins TigerShark stripe wetsuits are a conservation benefit and biomimicry design by @xcelwetsuits • Each year, great white sharks migrate over long distances from their feeding grounds off the central California coast to other feeding grounds far away in the Pacific Ocean. They travel as much as 2,500 miles (4,000 km) in an open ocean, where their prey is scarce. If they survived by foraging, sharks would need to work hard in the open ocean to find food. That’s one reason they migrate from one feeding ground to another, to take advantage of the seasonal bounty. But how do they survive the migration to a new feeding ground, across an open ocean that’s almost devoid of their food? Researchers have recently found evidence that great white shark migrations are fueled by large reserves of fat stored in the sharks’ livers. https://www.instagram.com/p/B4DROp4hKg2/?igshid=1wfo0utdhgmc3

💙 Your daily doses of vitamins SEA 🌊 ⠀ from @sharks. Words by @oceanramsey Jaws was a fictitious film whose poster kind of looks like this, so this is my effort at an Anti-Jaws type media piece @savingjawsmovie . I’ve been swimming with sharks my whole life and working professionally with them for over 15 years. There’s a challenge I have in my efforts, to find a balance between helping people to overcome their fear of sharks that often stems for fictitious demonizing media and instilling a healthy level of respect for sharks as very capable apex predators ApexPredatorNotMonster not puppy (cause if you pet puppies often even puppies bite, actually a lot ;)). Having worked with sharks for so long I can fully appreciate what they are capable of because I have been rushed by sharks and had to deter them and I have had to leave the water and I have watched them actively predate and compete for space and have confrontations. However, I’ve also had the most incredible moments of my life in the water with them where 99.9% of the time they cruise gracefully around and so long as I keep looking around and pay attention constantly and quietly and give respect and attention to the more dominant individuals and challenging juveniles on a CONSTANT bases I am treated as more or less an equal predator. Never complacent, always respectful and adapting at every second to every movement. I reached the point long ago where I dedicated my life to conservation and I love it, I love educating people about sharks and introducing them to them in a professional guided situation through the program I co-founded @oneoceandiving where we also collect data @oneoceanresearch @oneoceansharks and help support conservation through @Oneoceanconservation and @OneoceanEducation and @Oneoceanglobal @Waterinspired @oneoceanhawaii and other with funds from @oneoceandesigns and diving I love studying shark behavior and body language and its an absolute pleasure to share that with people and help them to better appreciate sharks and I hope inspire them to help save them. My friends @oceanramsey and @juansharks had an incredible great white shark encounter yesterday! Yes I'm extremely jealous! Here is definitive proof...even the great white shark does not target humans as a food source or this wouldn't be possible! Reposted from @oceanramsey PHOTO BY @juansharks 😍😱🤭😳😍 Maybe my fav photo of me (@oceanramsey) and Shark ohana 🦈 of all time so far 😳😍😱 It’s so hard to choose, so many beautiful moments I am so eternally grateful for sharks please help save them. I am without words and at the same time I think I never stop speaking up for sharks, I am grateful beyond measure for my experiences and what they have taught me. This photo was taken yesterday off my home waters of Oahu, Hawaii when hey Shark I think I’ve met previously in Isla Guadalupe graced us with her big beautiful incredible presence 💙 I headed out with my team from @oneoceandiving (my ❤️ @juansharks ) and @mermaid_kayleigh @forrest.in.focus @camgrantphotography for a day I will never forget. I’ve been trying to get the bill re-introduced in Hawaii to ban the purposeful killing of sharks and rays and this just feels like the biggest sign to keep pushing forward for more protection for them. Shark populations around the planet are severely declined. They need protection from targeted shark fishing for shark been soup and sport fishing. Please speak up in your own community and help support international efforts. #helpsavesharks #savesharks #shark #greatwhiteshark #sharks #oceanramseyandgreatwhite #oceanramseygreatwhite PHOTO BY #JUANSHARKS #Sharkphotographer #Sharkarma #savetheocean #instagood Join me at my team to learn about sharks OneOceanDiving.Com @oneoceanresearch @oneoceanconservation @oneoceaneducation @oneoceanglobal @oneoceanhawaii @waterinspired New conservation benefit tiger shark biomimicry wetsuit by @xcelwetsuits #instagram #discoversharks #instagood #ocean #incredible #amazing #beautiful Photo by @juansharks 😘😍❤️🦈❤️ https://www.instagram.com/p/BstCjDEBW-I/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1s4bogl3npwv6

I know some people criticize touch but what some don’t realize is that sometimes sharks seek touch, she swam away escorted by two rough-toothed dolphins who danced around her over to one of my @oneoceandiving shark research vessels and proceeded to use it as a scratching post, passing up feeding for another need. I wish more people would have a connection with sharks and the natural world, because then they would understand that it’s not petting sharks or pushing them off to maintain a respectable space that is hurting sharks (because trust me if she didn’t like being pet she can handle and communicate ) it’s the wasteful and cruel practice of grabbing and catching sharks to cut off their fins (which slowly kills them) for #sharkfinsoup in a process called #sharkfinning or the wasteful #sharkfishing or #sharksportfishing If it bothers you that I touched the shark please click on one of the hashtags above and leave them a negative comment first #HelpSaveSharks #SpreadAwareness #FinBanNow #bansharkfinning #Sharkfin Vid shot on my @gopro #gopro3000 #goproforacause out with @oneoceandiving with @juansharks @mermaid_kayleigh @camgrantphotography @forrest.in.focus @oneoceanresearch @oneoceanglobal @waterinspired @oneoceansharks @oneoceanhawaii @oneoceaneducation #savetheocean #sharktouch #touchingsharks #oneoceanteam #discoversharks #discoverocean #greatwhitesharkinhawaii #freedivingwithsharks #whitesharkhawaii #deadwhalehawaii #dolphinsandsharks # #Hawaii #sharka A post shared by Ocean Ramsey #OceanRamsey (@oceanramsey) on Jan 16, 2019 at 4:56pm PST A mama tee in the sea. Only in Belize will you hop in the water and immediately have a manatee and a spotted eagle ray swim swimming together. They went opposite directions but I was able to spend some more time with this girl because she was swimming so calmly. I’ll remember this dive forever. Comment below which one you’d choose! The moments that define us, that epitomizes what I love and live for. @oceanramsey and “Bella” (the great white shark) grabbing the whole worlds attention over night & changing perceptions when great white sharks needed it the most. At the time studies were reporting great white shark populations to be less than 350 in the north west pacific. Ocean and I decided to take immediate action by getting images of “anti-jaws-movie” human-shark coexistence that no one thought would be possible. Images that would shatter the perception that sharks are mindless monsters. We’ve worked for decades with sharks and constantly capturing images that get people to look past the fear that movies and media traditionally created and get people inspired to care about the possible extinction of sharks. A huge thanks to @gopro for spreading the video and these images to the world and supporting shark conservation. #goproforacause #gopro #gopro3000 #oceanramsey #helpsavesharks #savesharks #sharkandfreediver #freedivingwithsharks #swimmingwithsharks #shark #sharks #ApexPredatorNotMonster #sharkconservation #photooftheday #greatwhiteshark #coexist #freediving #ocean #amazing #marinebiologist photo by #JuanOliphant using @aquatech_imagingsolutions @cressi1946 @xcelwetsuits @waterinspired @oneoceanresearch @oneoceandiving @oneoceandesigns @oneoceansharks @oneoceanhawaii @oneoceanconservation @oneoceanglobal @oneoceaneducation

The ribbon eel is a species of moray eel. It’s color phase indicates the stage of life it’s in. Juveniles are black, males are blue and females yellow. All ribbon eels are born male and they are the only moray eel that can change from male to female for survival of the species. The adult blue male will change to a female and turn yellow in color. It will then mate, lay eggs and then die. Most of the time we see the eels in their burrows and very seldom do we see them swimming or in the open. #ribbon #eel #marinelife #sealife #snake . . Dead baby scallop hammerhead sharks were caught and left to die on the beach here at Haleiwa yesterday. This is such a disrespect for life , waste of an important resource, and inhuman to kill something just for fun or maybe even killed out of fear. #cagethefear #raiseawareness #saveouroceans sharks like scallop hammerheads are not dangerous but they are endangered. These animals are faced with extinction because of human influences. The person that did this obviously has no concern or respect for nature but they should be aware that by killing sharks they are directly contributing to the degradation of our oceans which really is our life support system. 50 to 70% of the oxygen we breath comes from the ocean, we all need to be protecting it. #savesharks to #savehumans #helpsavesharks photo by @keoniashley while taking his kids surfing. @keonishoots teaching his daughter the traditional respect and care for nature and marine life. Such a powerful image, and moment hearing little Violet on Keoni’s back asking to dive down, the sharks were a little shallower so he said calmly and respectfully not now sweetie we have to wait till the sharks let us have more space in their home. Awesome capture of a trio of Sandbar sharks taken on a recent charter with @b_rocka! Many of our guests are a bit nervous or apprehensive about getting in the water with sharks, but most find the experience surprising calming and even meditative watching the sharks school in clear blue water with sun rays streaming down. Thank you so much to all the wonderful people who join us out for a dive and to learn about sharks with the team @oneoceandiving We had such a gorgeous dive this AM with four species including the Tiger shark “Kalihi” #SharkIDKalihi who is featured in the video (if you swipe right) and in many of my free online advanced shark diving videos that add on to the online course and book (links via my bio - website) The tiger shark in this first photo is “Roxy” #SharkIdRoxy She’s a very old tiger shark with a broken jaw and I’ve had over a decade of incredible encounters on significant ohana days and I’m grateful to have been able to save her many times from entanglement, it’s been a couple months since I saw her last and last I saw she had a new hole rubbed off on her side, just hoping she’s doing jawsome and hoping she’ll come around again soon this “Shark-tober” season. Can you guess the species? There is nothing like feeling you get when you’re in the presence of a shark, instinctually they command attention, and they deserve respect. Respect means not not allowing them to be killed because they are critical for ocean ecosystems. Their mere presence encourages meso (lower trophic level) predators to continually move, which moves important nutrients for corals and the carbon-oxygen cycle and that also helps smaller, more defenseless, yet also important fish and other animals from the next tropic level. Help protect sharks from being killed by emailing companies that kill them for their fins, those that sell, ship, and trade the fins, and those that serve shark fin soup and other shark derived products to stop. Encourage others to not eat shark fin soup, not kill sharks for sport, and not purchase sea food from industrial commercial fishing fleets because of the 80%+ by-catch rates. There is a Pre-drafted letter at HelpSaveSharks.Org you can email to any of the companies, stores, or restaurants serving, selling, or directly killing them. Click the hashtag: #sharkfishing and leave an educational fact or comment on their page 💙 Photo: I took the other day, in my happy place, deep underwater looking up at “evolutionary perfection.” I love shark silhouettes 💙🦈😍🦈 #sharksilhouette #silhouette #naturesperfection #perfection #nature #wildanimals #wildlife #hawaii #oahu #northshore #oneoceandiving #manō #malamamanō #alohaforsharks #sharkconservation #sharkresearch #sharkdiving #helpsavesharks #savetheocean #oneocean #aloha #ocean #deepocean #pelagic #pelagiclife #oneoceanhawaii (at Oneoceandiving.com) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGEpGtsATWh/?igshid=5y68ogxj3bz6
