#Repost @the.undisputable.vegans —— Those aren’t rocks and pebbles on this beach.. @oceansasia captured footage of tens of thousands of pieces of polystyrene trash from fishing operations that have been broken down over recent years. Oceans in every corner of the globe are becoming overwhelmed by pollution, with the fishing industry as a leading cause. Not only does this pollute our beaches, but it breaks down and enters our ocean, doing unspeakable damage to marine life and precious ecosystem. Help support @oceansasia and the incredible work they do to prevent these disasters. Via: @seaspiracy (at Mother Earth) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdYhX-VsY7j/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @oceanfanlove —— ⚠️GRAPHIC VIDEO, SAD BREAKING NEWS: PLEASE SHARE WITH YOUR FOLLOWERS TO STOP THIS ANIMAL CRUELTY!⚠️ via @savethereef Here’s footage from one of the surveillance cameras in Primorsky Oceanarium in Russia. According to eyewitnesses who sent the video, trainer Dmitry Bachinsky beat up two adult male beluga whales — on the left, a 12-year-old beluga whale Nil, Bachinsky punched with his fist, on the right - 13-year-old beluga Lir, Bachinsky kicked him with his legs. THIS BEHAVIOR IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! People wonder how animals in marine parks, shows and circuses are trained, sadly this happens FAR TOO OFTEN! These highly intelligent and social creatures are taken from their families at a very young age and continuously beaten, starved and tortured, their spirits completely broken, until they perform for unaware crowds. WE MUST WORK TOGETHER TO STOP THIS! Let’s work together to end cruel businesses like these once and punish anyone who abuses animals to the fullest extent of the law! Please use your social media platform to share this and make EVERYONE aware of this so they don’t buy a ticket to shows like this, share this sad video with your followers and tag people, celebrities, influencers news media who need to see and share this too so this trainer is punished and this cruelty is exposed/condemned worldwide as no animal deserves to be beaten/tortured like this! #Repost @inherentlywild —— When a killer whale is born at SeaWorld they often learn one thing within the first few years of their life: loss. During the years of SeaWorld's notorious breeding programme mother and calf separations were all too common. Mothers were treated like breeding machines as they birthed SeaWorld's next generation of entertainers; only to be separated from their offspring and bred again to maximise the amount of calves born in a few short years. Trua (shown above) and his mother Takara are all too familiar with this treatment. When Takara gave birth to her first and only son in November 2005, she was granted just three short years with her second-born calf until she was cruelly separated from him and sent to another park across the country. Takara's heartbreak began during the weaning process whereby mothers and their calves are forced to spend less and less time together before the final separation occurs. During one notable incident which saw trainers separate mother and calf via gate, Takara raced over and reportedly “jammed her rostrum up against the gate and began emitting god-awful, high-pitched distress calls in an attempt to get to her son.” While Takara and Trua were reunited later that day, the periods of separation gradually increased and regulars claimed Takara fell into a state of depression. Considering Takara’s extreme aversive reaction to being separated from her son simply via a gate, a cross-country separation must’ve been unimaginably devastating for Takara and Trua alike. Today Trua remains at SeaWorld Orlando and Takara at SeaWorld San Antonio. Mother and son haven't seen each other since that dreadful day in February 2009 that saw them separated for the sake of corporate greed. • Caption: @inherentlywild Photo: Orcalover109 (DeviantArt) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdI8S_EOyWg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @sheldricktrust —— Africa lost one of its giants this week. In 1971, an elephant was born in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro. He was nurtured in the bosom of his family, discovering the Amboseli ecosystem that would be his kingdom for 51 years. This little bull would grow up to become one of the most iconic elephants in Kenya. With ivory that swept the grass beneath his feet, Tolstoy was a living natural wonder and one of the last remaining great tuskers in Africa. Through ivory poaching crises and devastating droughts, shrinking habitats and the encroaching human footprint, he prevailed. He was a leviathan, a reminder of all that nature is capable of creating — but in the end, it was the simple tip of a spear that claimed his life. Six weeks ago, Tolstoy was reported with a spear wound to his front leg, which was likely inflicted by a farmer protecting his crops. Big bulls have big appetites, and as wild spaces continue to shrink and resources become scarce, crop-raiding and the resultant human-wildlife conflict have emerged as challenging issues. Tolstoy was treated at the time and then monitored around the clock by Big Life Rangers. On the morning of 27th April, they found him recumbent in the heart of Kimana Sanctuary. Complications from the wound had weakened his condition, and he was unable to get back to his feet. The moment Big Life raised the alarm, our helicopter rushed the SWT/KWS Mobile Vet Unit directly to the scene. A seven-hour battle to save our giant friend ensued, as vets, rangers, and pilots worked tirelessly to bring him to his feet. When vehicles and ropes didn’t work, a front-loader was brought in as a last ditch effort. After creating a pillow of earth to help lever him up from the ground, the loader was then used as a crane. Tolstoy fought hard to live. Understanding he was being helped, he strained alongside his rescue team to battle the odds. He came very close, but after each struggle you could see his strength ebbing away. We were all left to face the grim reality that this majestic animal was never going to stride across the plains of Amboseli again. In the day's fading light, Tolstoy drew his last breath. https://www.instagram.com/p/CdA7nH1OCI8/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost @teamsharkwater —— Shark DNA has been found in 1/3 of pet food samples, say scientists at Yale-NUS College in Singapore. Additionally, the ingredients listed on the pet foods did not indicate that shark was included but instead labels shark ingredients as “ocean fish,” “white fish” or “white bait.” Of the 144 samples tested from 16 different brands, 45 came back with Shark DNA. Blue shark was the most commonly identified species, followed by the endangered silky shark, whitetip reef shark, sicklefin weasel shark, Caribbean sharpnose shark and the sand tiger shark. "The vague terminology used to describe pet food ingredients, and in some cases, the mislabeling of contents, prevents consumers—in this case, pet owners—from making informed and environmentally conscious decisions; consequently, pet owners and animal lovers may unwittingly be contributing to the overfishing of endangered sharks," said co-authors Ian French and Dr. Benjamin Wainwright. @diegocardenosa , who was featured testing pet foods and cosmetics with Rob Stewart in “Sharkwater Extinction” found endangered sharks in 63% of pet foods purchased in the U.S. in a study released in 2019 and said, “Shark populations could benefit if consumers have the alternative to choose whether or not to purchase products containing threatened shark species.” Sharks are highly sought for their fins and livers – leading them to be overfished at an unprecedented rate. The remaining shark body has a low value and often becomes a by-product that ends up in pet foods, fertilizers and fish pellets. With over 75% of oceanic shark populations currently at risk of extinction, it is crucial for producers to be more transparent to their consumers. Invest in our planet by being a conscious consumer and buying products that are shark-free. #robstewart #sharkwater #savesharks #sharks #conservation #finfree #wildlife #robstewart #sharkwaterextinction #earthmonth #earthday # DiegoCardenosa (at Mother Earth) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc_7PVVlMGP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#Repost from our vegan conservationist friends at...@worldanimalnews_ —— This past Tuesday, it took 27 members of @ifawglobal’s staff, interns, and trained volunteers to successfully rescue a stranded bottlenose dolphin who was more than 316cm long and 329kg (10ft long and 726lbs). 🙏🐬 The logistics of safely moving such a large dolphin can sometimes be challenging, but this one proved uniquely rewarding since they don’t frequently see this species in #CapeCod. The male dolphin was successfully released off #Provincetown with a temporary satellite tag, and @ifawglobal will track its movements post-release in the coming days. 🌊🐬 Video By: Andrea Spence/ @ifawglobal *Activated conducted under a federal stranding agreement between IFAW and NMFS under the MMPA. 🌍👉 @worldanimalnews_ @peace_4animals #WorldAnimalNews https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc9SxQ2AnCQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
