#Repost @oceanramsey utilizing the latest technology to get behavioral footage to compare how sharks behave without the presence of humans. Stay tuned for the video footage recorded by this tiger shark Nikki! ・・・ @oneoceandiving @oneoceanresearch This is one of the least invasive way to look at the natural behavior of sharks interacting with each other when they are out of our sight. It also gives us a sharks-eye-view on the timing, angle, and other information about when they might approach a person or object on the surface. This small temporary fin camera lightly clamps on with fine sandpaper to help keep it in place and can record for 1-3 hours from the sharks perspective before the GTR’s dissolve and it floats off with no remnant or damage. Vid taken by @juansharks out with @oneoceandiving and #cinemascientist #inventor @abc4explore who created the trackable and gentle device. In the vid I’m using @geneinno S1 scooter to go into a strong current to retrieve the device. #QueenTigerShark #SharkIDNikki one of my favorite Tiger sharks we see @oneoceandiving carried the camera for a few passes and allowed us a glimps into her world when she was out of sight of the boat and her perspective and reaction when she saw me floating in the surface. #Repost @oceanramsey (@get_repost) ・・・ “Grandma great white” shark munching for days on a dead whale. This summer don’t bite into the fear the old style media sells, they sensationalize and often cut scenes together and have hosts saying dramatic things to make it sound scary.  The truth is you should be afraid FOR sharks, they are the ones being killed everyday. Please encourage your friends to watch @savingjawsmovie to find out what sharks are really like, who is the real monster, and why they need your help to save them before its too late. Footage from beautiful peaceful days recording tigers and white sharks feeding off a dead sperm whale.  Amazing days and sharks I will forever be grateful for and whom I hope people will come together to protect from wasteful killing. Over 100,000,000 sharks are killed every year mostly due to finning, longline fishing/nets & by-catch, targeted shark fishing tournaments and culling, the souvenir and pharmaceutical trade.  Sharks are capable #ApexPredators so I dont recommend anyone to just jump in with a white shark we have been working with them for over a decade and large sharks daily. They are not monsters, there are less than 10 fatalities annually=everything else kills more people each year than sharks. @juansharks respectfully recording natural history with out phasing her, she paid no attention to him and continued feeding all day 💙 Big beautiful full shark. We cannot know if she is pregnant or just very very full but I hope both 💙 #beautifulshark #grandmagreatwhite #grateful #beautiful #inscredible #greatwhiteshark #whiteShark #grandma #grandmagreatwhite #whitesharkhawaii #greatwhitesharkhawaii #sharklife not #SharkWeek #sharkeatingwhale #oceanramsey #ocean #deepblue #oneoceanresearch @oneoceanresearch #oneocean #helpsavesharks #saveTheocean https://www.instagram.com/p/B0Gn8NPn9rs/?igshid=15y7ykoq7l0rn

Reposted from @silenthunter_pty @withregram • This is one big female tiger shark 🦈, that was not so happy to have me in her space . Hearing the electronic impulse put out by my cameras 🎥just set her off and she decided to turn on me . As you can see I was backing off as easy and calmly as possible . Luckily no one was harmed . Neither shark nor man ! But this is a situation you can suddenly find yourself in . When diving with sharks it is imperative to be prepared and have a plan . But so many things can rapidly go south , of which even the best shark divers have no preparation ! This is when one turns to their knowledge and skills . @apexsurvival @rpela_official @marks.clark @dickie_chivell @shrkba8 @chriscameron.sa @sharkdefenderspanama @oceanramsey @juansharks #oneoceanresearch #oneoceanconservation #sharkphotography #panamasharkphotographer 🇵🇦#tigershark #sharkawarness #apexpredatornotmonster https://www.instagram.com/p/CRD-tH1Br8m/?utm_medium=tumblr

Reposted from @blueoceanaction - Reposted from @oneoceandiving - Afraid of ending up as shark dinner? Don’t be! It’s more likely for sharks to end up as human dinner! Shark fin soup is an expensive delicacy that is eaten in China as well as some Chinese restaurants in America. It can cost anywhere from $300 to $2,000, and all for a bowl of soup! Eating sharks has no nutritional value, and in fact it has been found that humans are at risk of acquiring the neurotoxin BMAA (Holtcamp 2012). This is a compound normally produced by cyanobacteria, and apex predators (like sharks) tend to have high concentrations of this because they eat so much including other predators with high concentrations of BMAA (Holtcamp 2012). It is estimated that 1.4 million tons, or around 100 million individual sharks are killed per year for shark finning (Worm et al. 2013). The practice itself is extremely wasteful and inhumane: illegal fisheries have been found to use sea lion flesh to bait the sharks, and once caught the fins are cut and the shark is discarded to either bleed out or suffocate (Schiller et al. 2015). These amazing animals deserve so much better! #speakupforsharks and #bansharkfinning !! #oneocean #oneoceandiving #oneoceanresearch #helpsavesharks Post by: @kaytiegracie Photo by: @paulhiltonphoto Want to learn more? "The Great Ocean Travellers" - || @maestro320 's Notes: This post and incredible footage was filmed not long ago off the Coast of Oahu, Hawaii courtesy of Our Co-Founder, Passionate Shark Conservationist and Ethologist, Designer. Model, Business Entrepreneur, Divemaster and World Class Freediver, Lead Marine Biologist at One Ocean Diving and Research @oneoceandiving / @oneoceanresearch , Ocean Ramsey @oceanramsey - I think it’s so incredible how some of the same #great Whites sharks I’ve studied in Mexico for over a decade also swim all the way out to Hawaii 💙 Hope to see some of these beautiful ones this week in Mexico, on these annual expeditions, or in Hawaii this winter 😉💙🦈💙 Footage shot @oneoceanhawaii at home in #hawaii this year. One of absolute best moments of my life I will forever be grateful and smiling in memory of. #savesharks #helpsavesharks #grandmagreatwhite #grandma #aumakua with @oneoceandiving @oneoceanresearch @juansharks ❤️ @forrest.in.focus @mermaid_kayleigh @camgrantphotography #sharkohana #manō #ManōOhana @oneoceanglobal Using @iphone @axisgo @gopro @aquatech_imagingsolutions @nauticamhousings and @geneinno #underwaterdrone for #deepwater studies #shark #sharks #greatwhiteshark #savetheocean #discoversharks #grateful #happy #thrilled #elated #best #conservationphotography #wild #sharkwithdolphins TigerShark stripe wetsuits are a conservation benefit and biomimicry design by @xcelwetsuits • Each year, great white sharks migrate over long distances from their feeding grounds off the central California coast to other feeding grounds far away in the Pacific Ocean. They travel as much as 2,500 miles (4,000 km) in an open ocean, where their prey is scarce. If they survived by foraging, sharks would need to work hard in the open ocean to find food. That’s one reason they migrate from one feeding ground to another, to take advantage of the seasonal bounty. But how do they survive the migration to a new feeding ground, across an open ocean that’s almost devoid of their food? Researchers have recently found evidence that great white shark migrations are fueled by large reserves of fat stored in the sharks’ livers. https://www.instagram.com/p/B4DROp4hKg2/?igshid=1wfo0utdhgmc3

💙 Your daily doses of vitamins SEA 🌊 ⠀ from @sharks. Words by @oceanramsey Jaws was a fictitious film whose poster kind of looks like this, so this is my effort at an Anti-Jaws type media piece @savingjawsmovie . I’ve been swimming with sharks my whole life and working professionally with them for over 15 years. There’s a challenge I have in my efforts, to find a balance between helping people to overcome their fear of sharks that often stems for fictitious demonizing media and instilling a healthy level of respect for sharks as very capable apex predators ApexPredatorNotMonster not puppy (cause if you pet puppies often even puppies bite, actually a lot ;)). Having worked with sharks for so long I can fully appreciate what they are capable of because I have been rushed by sharks and had to deter them and I have had to leave the water and I have watched them actively predate and compete for space and have confrontations. However, I’ve also had the most incredible moments of my life in the water with them where 99.9% of the time they cruise gracefully around and so long as I keep looking around and pay attention constantly and quietly and give respect and attention to the more dominant individuals and challenging juveniles on a CONSTANT bases I am treated as more or less an equal predator. Never complacent, always respectful and adapting at every second to every movement. I reached the point long ago where I dedicated my life to conservation and I love it, I love educating people about sharks and introducing them to them in a professional guided situation through the program I co-founded @oneoceandiving where we also collect data @oneoceanresearch @oneoceansharks and help support conservation through @Oneoceanconservation and @OneoceanEducation and @Oneoceanglobal @Waterinspired @oneoceanhawaii and other with funds from @oneoceandesigns and diving I love studying shark behavior and body language and its an absolute pleasure to share that with people and help them to better appreciate sharks and I hope inspire them to help save them. Check out http://HelpSaveSharks.Org for more ways to get involved. ⠀ #freediving #spearfishing #scubadiving #surfing #windsurfi https://www.instagram.com/p/BtCxCYiny-x/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=22r4vy06yjjk

Live Every Week Like Shark Week’s Andy Casagrande
It’s that time of year again where sharks and seals are flooding our television screens. For over 50 years, Shark Week has aimed to educate viewers on conservation efforts and correcting misconceptions about sharks.
Back for another swim this year, Shark Week returns to Discovery Channel, bringing legends like Mike Tyson, Will Smith, and Shaquille O’Neil back onto the screen to help tell this…

This call to action comes today from Panama. Repost video by my dear friend @silenthunter_pty a resident conservationist, diver, and responsible fisherman in Panama. He’s trying to raise awareness and put pressure on the government in Panama to not allow the near shore netting fisherman to keep the female Hammerheads that are coming in seasonally to pup (give birth.) These fisherman could target other fish, they have alternatives, but they kill the hammerheads they catch and cut out the babies specifically for ceviche. #helpsavesharks Call to action if you can take a minute to post and tag or contact @miambientepma (ministry of environment) @arap_panama (fishing dept) and @visitpanama (tourism) to let them know you don’t want endangered species to continue to be killed without any regulation. Thank you to conservation biologist and photographer @blakethompsonphoto for the info on government agencies to contact. Stay tuned for a petition #Repost @silenthunter_pty Hundreds of large female great hammerheads (Sphyrna mokarran )arriving to give birth to their pups .. it is the spawning season April and May.. so there is always many females giving birth in these shallow areas where the pups go into the mangroves for protection and food. Here’s a video post from one of our wonderful One Ocean guests @kathi.rinchen from earlier this year ✨🤗 Most believe swimming with sharks would be some really intense adrenaline rush (which sure, you may still find a trace of that on our dives, especially at first), but many guests are surprised at how oddly calming and tranquil the experience is. We hope that through our tours, we can shed a more positive and realistic light on these wild animals & educate more people on shark safety, respect, and conservation. “...8 month ago.. 🦈 hope to see you beauties soon again 💙 Mahalo @oneoceandiving #shark #snorkeling #oneoceandiving #oneoceanresearch #oneoceanhawaii #savesharks #hawaii #tb #bestdayever” (at Oneoceandiving.com) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1xSNe9nvCn/?igshid=1hguflkfcj69c

There have been random moments in my life lately that make me realize how good I have it. The Ocean is one of the most peaceful places on earth, and I have the privilege of having it as my playground. There is really something special about all the creatures that get to call it home.
