What does this image make you think of? It made me think of: Balance. Perspective. Gratitude. Forever grateful for each of these moments and interactions. Makes it easier and harder in different ways as we are now currently filming death in international fishing markets 💔 This Image by @Juansharks also made me think of our role within the natural ecosystem, to care and look out for it, as we are connected, it cycles back. It also made me think of the symbol of Yin and Yang. “In Ancient Chinese philosophy, yin and yang is a Chinese philosophical concept that describes how obviously opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another.” Photo: @juansharks Diving with @pelagicdivefuvahmulah Wetsuit: @xcelwetsuits coming soon Fins: @cressi1946 Conservation benefit “Fins to help save fins.” Available now. What does November look like for you? 🍁 I love this time of year, the water temperature hasn’t dropped to my version of 🥶 fffrrrreeeeezing for my Hawaii standards, but cool enough the # of sharks we are seeing out with @oneoceandiving to increase and the Tiger sharks are still playful because there are not too many whales around yet to occupy their attention. The surf has picked up 🏄🏼‍♀️🌊 so there is a blend of fun surf nearshore and great diving offshore @oneoceandiving photo by @juansharks wetsuit @xcelwetsuits #tigersharkwetsuit #biomimicry #malamamanō #nuihi I don’t get to see a bunch of cool changes in the color of leaves 🍁 but I get to see the changes in the sharks and surf and I think that’s pretty cool too ☺️🙏. Tag me in your favorite fall season view 🍁💕 or spring if your southern hemi crew 🌊🤙🏽 I love that November is national gratitude month. What are you grateful for? I’m grateful for more than I could ever list but for sure these beautiful important sharks, helping people to learn about them, gain experience and a deeper understanding and I hope appreciation for them, helping to change peoples lives, and for the Jawsome team @oneoceandiving who #helpsavesharks & take people out everyday changing lives, and all the conservationists out there and those who support & of course my incredible husband who works hard along side me to help make as big of a positive impact as we can ❤️🦈 #LiveWithPurpose #gratefulFor #savetheocean #helpsharks #oneocean #waterinspired #oneoceandiving #fallback #springforward #seasons #perspectiveshift #flying #falling #fallcolors #falloutfits #seasonschange Photo cred @juansharks (at Oneoceandiving.com) https://www.instagram.com/p/CV9mQ2mLW3-/?utm_medium=tumblr

Stretch back, breathe, and think of what paradise looks like to you. This is 1 version of what I consider Paradise. It’s paradise with pancake sharks 🦈 🥞😊💕 The long sleeve tropical print “Paradise” swim suit in this photo is a new design that just launched @oneOceanBikini The material is made from recycled water bottles and fishing line and proceeds are donated to @savetheseaturtlesinternational I’m sure there will be a lot of comments about Steve Irwin, may he #RIP but while it’s true that stingrays do have a barb that could harm you, or much less likely kill you (just depending on where you got stung) they rarely sting people and statistically it’s extremely rare to be stung if you’re mindful of their behavior and physiology. Like sharks, stingrays get an undeserved bad rep, despite the few deaths associated with their sting, which sometimes results in fisherman killing rays when they are caught as bycatch rather than letting them go. I’m not saying their harmless but consistent wasteful killing can be harmful for the health of ecosystems and impact future generations and wasteful is just that: wasteful. If you’re curious to learn more about rays please consider joining the amazing team @mooreamoanatours they see some sharks too. If your home is Oahu, Hawaii or you’re looking to visit Oahu for the holidays or have outta town visitors and want to enjoy an educational adventure to learn about and snorkel with manō (sharks) or overcome your fears and replace them with a healthy level of respect than join the professional safety team specializing in shark safety and behavior @oneoceandiving which is offering a November special discount with the promo code “sharksgiving” for all the sharks we are so grateful to see everyday. Thank you so much to all the wonderful people who join us out for a dive and to learn about sharks with the team @oneoceandiving We had such a gorgeous dive this AM with four species including the Tiger shark “Kalihi” #SharkIDKalihi who is featured in the video (if you swipe right) and in many of my free online advanced shark diving videos that add on to the online course and book (links via my bio - website) The tiger shark in this first photo is “Roxy” #SharkIdRoxy She’s a very old tiger shark with a broken jaw and I’ve had over a decade of incredible encounters on significant ohana days and I’m grateful to have been able to save her many times from entanglement, it’s been a couple months since I saw her last and last I saw she had a new hole rubbed off on her side, just hoping she’s doing jawsome and hoping she’ll come around again soon this “Shark-tober” season. Loving this black and blue subtle turtle design wetsuit by @xcelwetsuits which donates a portion of the proceeds to the reef clean up efforts of @savetheseaturtlesinternational Perfect warmth layer for fall weather 🍁 now back home in Hawaii and a quick shark or reef monitor dive @oneoceandiving @oneoceanconservation 🌺🐢🦈🌊🏄🏼‍♀️🌴🥥🍍🐠🐡 Photo and video by @juansharks ❤️🦈 #goodmorning #oneocean #fallseason #surfsup #tigersharkshawaii #sharkdivinghawaii #aloha #pumpkinshark #sharktober #sharkseason #hawaiian #sharkid #sharkidentification #aumakua #manō #ohana @oneoceanhawaii @oneoceanglobal (at Oneoceandiving.com) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVl5C-7v-iO/?utm_medium=tumblr

One of my favorite photos by @juansharks I loved it so much I submitted it for many @oneoceandesigns 😍 Reminds me of the quote: “Keep your face towards the light and let the shadows fall behind you.” And my modified extension of “Just keep swimming” towards your goals 🙌🏽😉🦈 I really LOVE shark portraits, the scars and expressions are physical indicators of their experiences. So happy to be heading offshore to go spend more time with these beautiful #GreatWhiteSharks #whiteshark #sharkresearch #sharkconservation #helpsavesharks #learnaboutsharks #sharkface #sharks#discoversharks #juansharks #oceandeep #deepocean #exploringsharks #sharkattack is rare people attacking sharks is actually a daily thing :-( Help stop shark finning and shark fishing. Cutest face!!! It’s fascinating to observe the facial expressions of great white sharks. It’s wonderful to watch their excitement, confidence, curiosity, caution, and physical changes reflecting their cognitive process as they work through situations. Beautiful, incredible, interesting, & sad all at once. Trying to hold as still as possible while this baby humpback whale swam circles around me. Diving off @mooreamoanatours under permit with the team @maomanafoundation which does wonderful & diverse work for marine conservation and research in French Polynesia. Interesting but sad observation as this calf(baby whale) was repeatedly pushed away from its mother by a large male whale likely attempting to mate with her. @juansharks is posting a segment of video of the adult male whale separating the mother and calf and blowing bubbles below the calf to repeatedly send this little one to the surface where he was possibly showing how upset he was by continually jaw popping as he attempted again and again to get close to his mother. On a happier note we observed the three together again later in the afternoon, the calf was able to stay close to the mother and rest with her despite the adult male, showing off his “stuff” to the female. It’s that time of year in French Polynesia where these beautiful giants come to give birth and to mate. I highly recommend coming out with @mooreamoanatours if you plan to visit the area. They are currently collecting tissue samples for genetic research in collaboration with @asso_oceania See my stories later to learn more and see more interactions. Special thanks to @pierrick_moana and @kokocuvier of @maomanafoundation and @mooreamoanatours #maomanafoundation permit #06793 Filmed by my ❤️ @juansharks ❤️🙏💕 (at Moorea, French Polynesia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUTzMOqFuf0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy international Whale Shark Day! I LOVE Whale sharks! Please help save these harmless gentle giants please join the effort to spread awareness about the plight of sharks and their dwindling populations due to terrible things like shark finning, bycatch, and entanglement. Join the movement to #HelpSaveSharks by supporting efforts around the world to stop the killing of sharks for their fins for #SharkFinSoup and wasteful practices like #SharkFishing and please, if you eat seafood put in the little extra effort to make sure it’s not coming from industrial commercial fisheries that kill between 7-10 other animals for every one targeted fish they catch (mostly sharks but also sea birds, dolphins, whales, sea turtles, and more.) or go Vegetarian, even just as often as possible :) All efforts add up to positive change and lives saved. Wishing you a beautiful day and lifetime of incredible encounters that will be more common if marine species and significant areas are protected 💙 For more ways to #HelpSaveSharks and #SaveTheOcean check out my website. #WhaleShark photo by my ❤️🦈 @juansharks https://www.instagram.com/p/CTNJaTwFYyN/?utm_medium=tumblr

Ooooo. My rule of looking around every 10 seconds or less is important when diving with large predatory shark species, but I love I can let my guard down a lot with these mostly harmless nurse sharks. Watched that frisky ones behavior moving above me and taking the chance to investigate me when my behavior was most obviously directed one way. Generally I am always looking around to avoid running into them, to see more behavior, other marine life, and to respectfully scan for the occasional more serious bull, tiger, or reef species that might be coming into the area. Very fun diving with @oceanfanatics @sideytheshark at a spot a few minutes away from @reethibeachresort Vid shot by my 💙 @Juansharks Learn about shark behavior, safety consideration, and conservation in my online course (link on website via bio link) and my book: “What you should know about sharks” only a few left in stock at OneOceanDiving.Com online store with worldwide shipping options, or order via @Amazon where you can find my conservation themed children’s books “The adventures of Shark boy and Ocean girl.” 💙 #SharkDiving #DiscoverSharks #SharkDiver #Sharks #OceanAdventure #learnabout #marinescience #sharkscience #sharkbehavior #freediving #freediver Whale shark print wetsuit by @xcelwetsuits #Hammerhead @juansharks signature fins by @cressi While nurse sharks can cause skin abrasions and cuts or bruises on fingers it’s rare they accidentally suck any skin (or fingers in) and I only know of it happening in provoked situations. Serenity. Photo by @juansharks diving with @oceanfanaticsmaldives @sideytheshark @reethibeachresort Feeling a wonderful sense of serenity looking up at these gorgeous, graceful, gentle giants. Manta rays are harmless and defenseless. Tragically they are quickly heading towards extinction as they are hunted and killed for their gill-rakers for Chinese medicine markets. Please help save mantas by voting to pass laws or supporting efforts for their protection and marine protected areas. Mantas are protected at this incredibly special spot which I am so grateful to be experiencing. Special thanks to @sideytheshark for helping @juansharks and I to make this quick visit since we were already so close in Qatar and @reethibeachresort and @oceanfanatics for hosting us and taking us diving. 🙏 Local research managed by @mantatrust and they’ve got a wonderful team of local rangers keeping an eye out for the mantas 💕💕💕💕💕 Please comment which photo you like more? The first or 2nd? @juansharks is having a bet with me 😉 (at Reethi Beach Resort) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS1xkG3CGf_/?utm_medium=tumblr

Qatar is a very rich country and has helped with humanitarian efforts like the recent hosting of the refugees from Afghanistan and peace seeking meetings with the Taliban a few days ago in the Capital, Doha. My personal experience has been that the people here have all been extremely kind and helpful. The two-million migrant workers are able to make more working in Qatar than they would in their home countries and the jobs are heavily sought after. I have a lot of respect for the work ethic here, especially given the occasional up to 120 degree F weather at times. We’ve spent the past few days departing at 4am to go offshore with a wonderful local Qatari whale shark researcher. Throughout the mid-day heat we’ve looked for whale sharks, possibly the largest aggregation on the planet. It’s a positive side affect of the restrictions on activity in the area that the whale sharks have been left alone for such a long time. There are serious issues all around the world, not just in the Middle East, and I wish more people from the United States had perspective for what privileges we have, even if the systems are not perfect, I am so grateful for them and the opportunities I have. Don’t believe everything you hear or read in the media about the area it often portrays a extremely negative stereotype and generalization. Attitude of gratitude. Grateful for perspective, good conversations, the kindness the locals have shown me, the wonderful people of #Qatar and to have been invited for this quick project in Qatar. More to come. ..but since we are over here on this side of the planet we need to go say Aloha to some friends in Maldives 💕🦈 Currently Qatar requires vaccination and a negative NAAT Covid test result prior to arrival & a PCR test again in the airport upon arrival and they have a contact tracing app that is a requirement for everyone. Out of respect plan to cover your shoulders down to your knees if you plan to visit the area. Special thanks to Liv and the team @DiscoverQatar Liv, our local Guide and whale shark researcher MJ and friends @m_aljaidah Photo, not from this trip by my hubby @juansharks 🦈💙 (at Qatar) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS0qhuLBp-X/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy Shark Awareness Day!!! Thank you @gopro for helping to raise awareness about the importance of sharks, marine life, and the ocean for the planet. #Repost @gopro with @make_repost ・・・ All life below the surface serves a purpose. The health of our ocean is the health of our planet. 🦈🐠🐡 Read below for wisdom from #GoProFamily member @oceanramsey "Sharks are like the doctors of the ocean—crucial for the health of marine life, ecosystems, + future populations. They keep fish stocks healthy by picking off the sick, weak, + dying—preventing disease from spreading + leaving resources for the strongest to be able to reproduce. They also help keep coral reefs + sea grass beds healthy, while moving vital nutrients throughout their environment. With this keystone species spiraling towards extinction, we ask that you help save the sharks by raising awareness for their importance + their plight. The best night dive is at @nakaialimatharesort 😍 I was absolutely elated to be diving surrounded by hundreds of sharks 😍😍😍😍😍 #alimatha is a cute picturesque tiny island in the Maldives that has nurse sharks piling up around its pier all day and night long 💕🦈🦈🦈🦈🦈💕 The #Maldives is a beautifully s peaceful healthy #SharkSantuary and right now is a historical moment where my home #Hawaii might become the next shark sanctuary if we get enough support. Please check out the link in the bio of @oneoceanconservation and it only takes one minute and you can select “SUPPORT” and enter “HB” and “0553” and you name and why you want sharks protected. Doing this small thing could make a historical shift back to the traditional respect and protection that once existed in Hawaii. Check out @nakairesorts who were so friendly, welcoming, and so nice to even sponsor a water filter for the local island #fuvahmulah water filter project and are already using glass water bottles with a really cool whale shark design on them Photo taken right at @nakaialimatharesort where they LOVE their nurse sharks 💕 Photo by @juansharks #WhaleSharkWetsuit by @xcelwetsuits Fins by @cressi1946 #ciaobella #grazie #thankyou #helpsavesharks #savesharks #sharknightdive #sharksafterdark #bestnightdive #sharkdive #sharksanctuary #hawaiisharksanctuary #maldivessharks #nightdiving #goodnight #nightlife #nightphotography #nakairesortalimatha #nakairesortsmaldives #alimatharesort (at Nakai Resorts Alimatha') https://www.instagram.com/p/COUjlRDgGb8/?igshid=2lo5c2rreh1c
