This a clip from yesterday’s dive with @pierreorcaman in Norway. Looks like over 100 orcas surrounding the boat. If you look closely u can see a couple humpback whales in the mix. The Orca have been feeding on the herring here for centuries but the presents of humpback whales is relatively new just with in the last 5 years and are now competing with the Orca for this resource. In Milan with @oceanramsey doing interviews as ambassadors for @north_sails promoting their new initiative to becoming a “Blue” company, by giving back to the ocean through the Ocean Family Foundation, using recycled materials and designing clothing lines themed to raise awareness for ocean conservation. I shot this using my @canonusa 1dx mark 2 with a 50m lens of Ocean getting ready for her interviews enjoying the view of Milan Cathedral “The Duomo” which is Italy’s gravest gothic cathedral. This cathedral took over 600 years to build and was started in the 13th century. Human persistence can be amazing. This is a white sided dolphins riding the the waves and making eye contact with me during a trip out looking for Mako sharks. I’m currently in Madrid, Spain with @oceanramsey doing interviews on shark and ocean conservation as ambassadors for @north_sails North Sail is a large clothing and sail company taking a move to create clothes that have a message of ocean conservation and using materials that are from recycled sails and recycled cotton. They are also donating a percentage of sales to a NGO called “Ocean Family Foundation”. Dead baby scallop hammerhead sharks were caught and left to die on the beach here at Haleiwa yesterday. This is such a disrespect for life , waste of an important resource, and inhuman to kill something just for fun or maybe even killed out of fear. #cagethefear #raiseawareness #saveouroceans sharks like scallop hammerheads are not dangerous but they are endangered. These animals are faced with extinction because of human influences. When that one #shark picks u out of the pack. I shot this in water with @aquatech_imagingsolutions Delphin housing for my @canonusa 1dx mark 2 with a 50ml lens 2.8f 1/5000 seconds. When sandbar sharks get in a pack like this they are far from shy. Normally most species of sharks are non-confrontational and very low risk takers. We started the nonprofit @waterinspired 10 years ago with the goal to use visual imagery to get people to look at sharks differently. The best way to fight the unrealistic fear people have sharks is to show people sharing the ocean with them. @mikecoots getting to experience a peaceful dive with a Hawaiian tiger shark yesterday on a shoot with @abc4explore and @oceanramsey. Mike lost his right leg to a tiger shark when he was a kid surfing the north shore of Kauai and despite his loss Mike is a huge shark conservationist. This was not his 1st tiger shark dive since his loss but this was his 1st tiger shark dive in Hawai‘i which was amazing to film. Mike is a absolute legend for standing up for sharks and showing the world that we can #coexist and how sharks are so important to the health of our oceans. In French Polynesia the locals will refer to the chain of islands call the “Tuamotus” as the edge of the world, no WiFi, no building, no cars, less people and more sharks. I️ wanted to tell everyone how stoked I️ was on all the comments of concern for Roxy on my last post of her. There was even a couple of negative comments and so many stood up for sharks and the work that I’m doing.
