VI; Blue Bayou Series
Oh that boy of mine, by my side. The silver moon and the evening tide.
Tumblr media
Series Masterlist
Pairing: TFAWS!Sam Wilson x fem!Reader
Summary: Finale of the Blue Bayou Series
Warnings: Fluff, mentions of hospitals, mentions of eating
Word Count: 1560
Author’s Notes: I hope you all enjoyed this series! I cannot wait to write more Sam fics!
“When is y/n coming?” Sarah asked expectantly, setting a pot of boiled crawfish on the picnic table. Today was an important day for Sam, helping Sarah finish setting up for one of their famous Wilson cookouts. Everybody in the community was invited, as always, and most of the people who were in attendance had been close with Sam and Sarah’s parents.
Sam ran a lap around the table, chasing after AJ and Cass who were in a fit of giggles before they ran off along the docks. “Soon, her class was finishing up their final exam this afternoon.” He huffed, stopping to catch his breath. It had been four months since the mission that had sent him to the hospital, his arm and ribs fully healed, the only scar left on his right hip bone.
He had taken the first two months of his recovery off from missions to fully heal his body and get his mind right, which was incredibly easy since he had y/n around. She was the light of his life, his other half, and he loved her with all his heart. Sam wasn’t convinced of the term soulmates until he met her, and since he had his life had changed for the better. His healing process was unmatched with a caretaker like y/n, making him dinners and giving him extra special attention in the bedroom.
“Well help me finish setting out this food for everyone, we don’t need a group of hangry guests.” Sarah commanded, handing him another pot of crawfish to set out. They had all the fixings ready; crawfish, potatoes, corn, salad, gumbo, jalapeno cornbread, and some of Sarah’s special pecan pies for dessert. Sam set down the other pot of crawfish, noticing Bucky joking around with AJ and Cass, greeting some of the guests that he’d met at their previous cookouts.
“Buck!” He called out, jogging up to the man and giving him embracing him with a huge bear hug. Bucky’s metal arm squeezes Sam’s shoulder, a huge smile spreading across his face.
“Hey man, y/n here yet?” Bucky looked around the crowd of people, trying to spot her.
“Nah man, she’ll be on her way soon though.” Sam crossed his arms over his chest, swaying a bit on the heels of his shoes. Six months. It had been six months since he had first met y/n. And now Sam was about to do something that brought him both excitement and anxiety at the same time.
“She’ll say yes, Sam. Y/N’s love for you is undeniable. I really hope to find someone as great as she is.” That sure as hell was a lie from Bucky. He had secretly been seeing Sarah for a few months now, waiting for the right time to tell him. If Sam was riding high on y/n saying yes, Bucky was in the clear with his secret.
“Yeah, yeah I hope so. Go ahead and sit down and eat.” Sam patted Bucky on the shoulder before heading back over to Sarah to get the rest of the food set up. This needed to go well, especially for y/n.
Tumblr media
An hour later and the cookout was in full swing, everyone eating and having a great time. Sam and Bucky were sitting at a picnic table near the dock, talking about an upcoming mission when y/n arrived. She was so beautiful, and Sam couldn’t help but stop his train of thought to stare at her. Her curves were accentuated by the blush pink floral dress that wrapped around her figure, her strappy wedges strutting as she walked. She made her way over to Sarah, giving her a hug before AJ and Cass ran towards her, hugging her tightly and handing her a few wildflowers they had picked in the grass.
Her eyes scanned until she met Sam’s gaze, her plush lips curling into a smile. The way she smiled had Sam’s heart beating in his chest, standing up and walking towards her. Her left hand still gripped the wildflowers as he picked her up in his arms, slotting his lips against hers in a passionate kiss.
Y/N wrapped her arms around his neck, breaking the kiss after a moment with a loud gasp. “You just saw me this morning…” She teased, letting go of his neck as he set her back on her feet.
Sam shrugged his shoulders, his hands running down her arms until he held her free hand. “I can’t be excited to see you?”
Y/N rolled her eyes, placing another soft kiss against his lips. “I’m excited to see you too. Also, I’m starving. Sitting in a classroom of kids quietly working on their final really worked up my appetite.” She pulled Sam over to the table he and Bucky had staked claim of, giving Bucky a side hug as she sat down beside him.
“How’ve you been Buck?” She asked, grabbing a plate off the table and starting to pile it with the contents from the cookout. Bucky continued to break apart a crawfish, sucking on the head before digging into the body.
“Been good, Sam keeps me busy as always.” Bucky responds, a wide smile on his face. Y/N places a forkful of salad into her mouth, swallowing before working open a crawfish of her own. Sarah always made the best food, Sam learning first-hand from her and then teaching y/n. The meals y/n had consumed since moving to Louisiana were better than most of the food she had in her lifetime.
“You’re always busy, now that Sammy’s all healed up it seems like missions have taken off.” She countered, taking a bite of her crawfish.
Sam couldn’t help but zone out as Bucky and y/n talked, the small black box burning a hole in his front pocket. He needed to wait at least until she was finished eating, his leg bouncing nervously as he watched them converse again. This was the most nervous he had been in his entire life, including all his missions, but it would hopefully all be worth it soon enough.
Tumblr media
A few hours had passed, y/n moving from table to table chatting with the guests. It was great to see her enveloped in conversation with the community he loved, and the people who were there for him through everything. He loved that his close friends and family loved her as much as he did.
The sun was starting its descent in the sky, the nervous jitters setting in as he realized what he was about to do. Sam took a deep breath, standing up from the table he was sitting at before moving closer to the docks, facing the group of picnic tables.
“Could I uh-could I get everyone’s attention for a moment please.” Sam shouted, waiting for the groups before him to quiet down, moving their attention from their individual conversations to him. “Y/N, can you come up here please?” He asked, holding out his hand as he waited for her to weave through the throngs of people.
“Sam, what’s going on?” She whispered, letting go of his hand as she stood before him, her bottom lip caught between her teeth.
Sam’s heart fluttered in his chest, his nervousness slipping away as he focused on her and continuing to breathe. “When I first became Captain America, I didn’t know what I was doing. It was hard to meet people again with my new identity, getting stopped on the street all the time to take a picture with someone or having to Facetime with a fan whose parent I had met on the street. It was all very overwhelming, until I met you. You knew who I was and didn’t let that shroud your judgement of me. Our first date, when you told me that you wanted to go out with Sam Wilson, that Captain America was not just all of me, was the first time in a long time where I felt normal. Every day since then has been an adventure with you, getting to know you and having you get to know me better. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve gotten through a few bumps and bruises.” Sam paused, a wide smile spreading on his face.
“I told you at the hospital that I wanted to love you forever, and I meant that. And today’s the day we can start that forever.” Sam stepped back, moving to get down on one knee, his hand fumbling around in his pocket for the box.
“W-what are you doing?” Y/N asked, her eyes wide as she watched his motions.
“Y/F/N Y/M/N Y/L/N...I love you with every fiber of my being. Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” He pulled out the black velvet box from his pocket, revealing a 2-carat marquise diamond cut ring nestled inside an 18k white gold band.
Tears fell from y/n’s cheeks, her head shaking up and down excitedly. “Yes...yes of course I’ll marry you Sam!” Sam got up from where he kneeled and swept her up into his arms, kissing her lovingly. The crowd of people cheered behind them, Sam’s hand shaking as he guided the ring on her ring finger. Y/N admired it for a moment before peppering kisses along his face, nuzzling her face into his neck.
“You’re my forever, Sam. I cannot wait to be Mrs. Samuel Wilson.”

Summary: A story of love
Pairing: Steve Rogers x F!Reader
Word Count: 1560
Warnings: Angst, people being assholes, and fluff
A/n: if you want to be tagged please send me an ask, Previous parts on my masterlist.
The next morning you checked your phone to see a text from Steve.
Steve: Let's do something today.
You: Like what?
Steve: As long as it’s not me sitting in my room dying of bored I don’t care.
You sat there and thought for a while of what could possibly be around that you could do.
You: There’s a bowling alley/arcade a mile or so from here.
Steve: I’m down.
You got dressed and went to find your mom only to find her on the phone. She looked at you and put her hand on the receiver.
“I’m going to the bowling alley with Steve unless you have something planned?”
“No peanut that’s fine have fun.” She told you and then you heard her whisper to phone. “Wanda, she and Steve are going on a date.”
Of course, she was on the phone with Wanda, those two gossip more white women at brunch.
“It is not a date!” You call and walk out the door.
You drove you and Steve there and you started out with a game of bowling but quickly realized that you were both terrible at bowling. So you decided to hit the arcade instead.
“C’mon Steve you can do better than that!” He was in the middle of a pretty hard game and you yelling at him probably wasn’t helping but you had a bet. You bet that you would be better at games overall and he bet that he would be. The prize was the biggest stuffed animal you could get with the tickets.
“It doesn’t help that you're yelling at me.” He was very concentrated on the screen. That’s when you saw the very last person you wanted to see.
“Shit, shit, shit, what the fuck is he doing here?” You said under breath and hid behind the game that Steve was playing.
“Y/n?” Steve looked around and you pulled him behind the game. “What is happening?”
“Brock is here.”
“He’s here?” He looked around. “I found him. I’m gonna go kick his ass.” You grabbed his arm to stop him.
“No. Lets just ignore him.” You walked out from behind the game with all the courage you could muster up at that moment.
“Well, well, well, look who it is.” That was not Brock’s voice. You turned only to come face to face with Alexander.
“Alexander.” You glared at him.
“You know my good friend Brock right?” He had a smug smile on his face. Brock suddenly appeared next to Alex and your breath got caught in your throat.
“Yeah we have a class together and once I realized it was you I just had to text Alex here and tell him that I was going to school with someone who he dated in high school.” Brock smiled at you, they paid no attention to Steve who was looking at you in concern.
“I wouldn’t call what we did dating.” You were forcing yourself to not kill both of them right then and there.
“Well, we did everything that people who date do. And then Brock said that you two were going on a date I reminded him of our history.” Now you were clenching every muscle in your body and trying to take deep breaths to calm you down.
“Well, it was good seeing both of you. We’re going.” You grab Steve to leave.
“Oh and look is this your boyfriend? Does he know about the sex tape that you tried to make without my knowing about?” Alexander asked.
“Judging by the shocked look on his face you failed to mention that. What kind of relationship do you expect to get if it’s built on lies.” Brock said and then he gave you a sinister smile.
You’d had enough so you turned around and punch brock in the face,  Brock doubled over in pain and it shocked Alex, for good measure you punched Alex in the face too.
You had been taking MMA classes for most of your life and taught some in the summer when you lived at home so if you were ready to fight them but before you could you felt an arm wrap around your waist and you were pulled away from those two men. Steve finally released you outside next to your car.
“What the hell dude I could have taken them.” The adrenaline was still pumping throughout your body.
“Yeah, I don’t doubt it. What the hell was that?”
“What?” You basically yelled still a little hyped up.
He looked worried and impressed. “Where the hell did you learn that?”
“I took MMA and now I teach it in the summer.”
“Remind me to never piss you off.” He said and that made you laugh. By now you had mostly calmed down from that almost fight. “Does anyone else know that you can probably kick everyone’s ass?”
“Why would they?” You asked him. “Besides, being able to kick someone’s ass is 70% physically being able to and 30% them not realizing that you can kick their ass.”
“Alright let's get out of here before some angry parent comes and yells at us.”
“Most of the kids in there take my summer class and have been begging to fight someone but where would you like to go? There’s not much to do here since they closed the skating rink.”
“Let’s just go watch Netflix or something.”
“Sounds perfect.” You said and got into your car and drove home. You sat on the couch at Steve’s house and fought over which movie to watch. You wanted to watch A Cinderella Story and he wanted to watch Supersize Me, you ended up winning.
You’d only gotten to the part where the dad died when Steve shifted uncomfortably next to you. You looked over at him.
“What?” You asked.
“What did he mean ‘sex tape’?” Steve whispered.
You looked back to the TV, you’d been hoping that he’d forget about that but who forgets about a bomb like that. You paused the movie and took a deep breath.
“Senior prom we were going to have sex,” you started, “we didn’t. But when he thought we were going to, ya know, he needed proof so he set up a camera to get it.”
The silence that followed was deafening. You looked over to him to find him with his fists clenched and eyes closed.
“Steve?”
“I -”
“You don’t have to worry about it, I’m over it.” It was kind of true, but you still kept it to yourself most of the time, so why was it so easy to tell things like this to Steve?
“I should go back to the arcade and finish beating him up.”
You snorted. “As much as I would love to see that, we’re in the middle of a modern-day classic.”
You played the movie but you knew Steve was gauging your reaction to tonight. After a while, though you told him to pay attention to the movie and he did.
“Why is he being stupid?” Steve asked right after the dance scene.
“What’d you mean?”
“Well, he can obviously see what her hair color is so why is he being an idiot and not trying to be smarter about this.” Steve ranted.
“One time I was wearing makeup and this guy who I had known for like two years didn’t recognize me for like 20 minutes and the only reason he did finally recognize me was because he saw my best friend.” You look at him. “Men are idiots Steve.”
“Ok fair enough.” He turned back to the movie and stayed quiet until it ended and you fought again over what to watch. This pattern continued until you decided it was time to go home.
“Are we hanging out again tomorrow?” Steve asked you at your door. Even though you literally lived right next door, he insisted on walking you home.
“Hmm, maybe I’ll have to check my schedule, but it’s looking good.”
“Nice, I’ll see ya then.” He said and he looked like he had more to say but stayed quiet.
“Bye.” You walked into your house.
“Later dude.” He said as you shut the door. You walked down the hall to the kitchen.
“So how was your night?” You turned to see your mother and Sarah sitting at the table.
“How long have you been here?”
“We’ve been here since you two kiddos got to our house and wanted to give you some privacy. So Joe went to the bar and was going to bring up more wine but he’s not back yet.” Sarah said, which explained why there was no one in her house with you and Steve.
“Ok well, I’m gonna go to bed.”
“Oh peanut, wait we want to hear about your date with Steve.” You mother gave you puppy eyes.
“Mom it wasn’t a date and it was fine.”
“Oh really so you didn’t punch anyone in the face today?” She cocked an eyebrow.
“Which parent called you?”
“Martha Rumlow.” Of course, Brock told his mom.
“Yikes. What did you say back?”
“I told her to suck my ass and that her son was a little twat.”
“LINDA!” Sarah said overdramatically.
“Well, I’m not wrong.” She and Sarah started talking about the other boys who were no good in this town so you snuck off to bed.

Shattered
Summary: Ben is going through the hardest times and Charlie is the best friend you can wish for.
Inspired by their lines during DADA classes.
Words: 1560
Tumblr media
1988
After the events of year four, Ben Copper was shattered. The last days of school he spent hiding from his friends, although, he wasn’t sure if he could still call them that. He felt too ashamed of what he had done, too scared. He was especially avoiding her, one of few people who had shown him true kindness over the years. Luckily, she was in another House. It was way harder to escape from his roommate.
Ben was getting up very early in the morning when all the students were still asleep. He was leaving classrooms possibly quickly to wander around the castle by himself, just to not have to talk to anyone. Nobody actually tried, really, except for Charlie. He made an attempt to start a conversation a couple of times, but there was always someone to interrupt them. It changed only on the train back home. Ben was sitting in an empty compartment when suddenly the door opened.
“Can I join you?” asked Charlie. “Just for a moment,” he added quickly.
“I’d really rather not, to be honest…”
But he didn’t listen. He closed the door behind him and sat in front of Ben. He appeared very determined. And worried.
“Look, Benny,” he started calmly but firmly. “I want you to know that I don’t blame you for what happened in the Courtyard. I want to help you. If you’d like to talk with me…”
“I’m not ready,” interrupted Ben. “I’m sorry…”
“All right.” He looked at his friend in silence for a while, despite him avoiding any eye contact. “Just promise me,” he said finally, “that you let me know when you’re ready. Send me an owl, anything.”
Ben knew Charlie wouldn’t go otherwise, so he gave the nod. It wasn’t the most satisfying answer, but it had to do. The redhead was about to leave when he turned around one more time.
“She doesn’t blame you either, you know.”
Well, she probably should.
It didn’t get any easier during summer. It was unlikely that someone would want to make Ben hurt his parents, but there was a tiny possibility, and it was enough. Mr and Mrs Copper didn’t know what happened to their son, they didn’t know much about his school at all. Not because they didn’t care; Ben had simply decided it’s better that way. They were so happy when he got his letter from Hogwarts, especially his mum. How could he break their illusion of the magical world? How could he tell them that he was usually afraid of everything? That he almost killed someone because he was controlled by the dark force? No, there’s no need to worry them. They had gone through enough therapies already when he was a kid.
At the same time, his insomnia became a lot worse. He had gotten pretty good at pretending at home, but he was more and more tired, and it was hard to focus on anything. He was almost glad when it was time to go back to the platform nine and three-quarters. At least, he wouldn’t have to be troubled about parents anymore.
It was Barnaby this time who found him and dragged him to the Hogwarts Express where they joined Penny, Tonks, Tulip, and Andre. Everybody tried to act normal, talking about their holidays, and while Ben appreciated it, he didn’t speak much himself. He wasn’t a very talkative person in general, so it probably didn’t seem odd. He even survived the Welcoming Feast somehow, and the first night. It wasn’t so well on the second…
For some reason, his anxiety came back with even more power. Not that he slept before, but now he was terrified of losing his consciousness even for a moment. He decided it’d be easier to stay awake if he sat on the floor; he didn’t want to be too comfortable. Just as he was looking into the darkness, a silent sob came out of him.
“Ben?” he heard Charlie’s whisper.
There was some rustle after that, and a moment later, Weasley appeared next to him, holding his lit wand.
“Bloody hell, I forgot to take my dragon slippers…” he muttered. “Can’t sleep too, mate?”
He sat next to him, curling his bare feet. It was just the beginning of September, but the floor was always rather cold in the castle.
“It’s going to be a pretty stressful year,” he continued in a low voice, not waiting for an answer. “I’m starting to understand Bill’s complaints.”
Ben smiled weakly. It must’ve been nice to have such insight from your sibling.
“Hey, I was thinking,” spoke Charlie. “Could you help me with that spell from today’s class? I don’t really get it.”
“Like now?” asked Ben surprised.
“No, not necessary,” he chuckled. “But maybe tomorrow?”
Ben nodded. Helping his friends with Charms was actually something he felt good about.
“Remember when I had problems with Engorio?” Charlie leaned on the frame of the bed, trying to find the right position. “We were practising the whole weekend…”
“On the sweets sent by my mum,” added Ben. “Yeah, I remember.”
“Y’know, now that I think about it, it had to be quite bad spells, after all, at least mine. That chocolate tasted awful.”
“Maybe it’s just not to your liking?”
“No way, I’ve eaten it in normal size too, and it’s delicious.” Just a memory of it brought a grin on his face. “I don’t know, maybe it works only on butterbeer.”
They both laughed. The snoring coming from Jae Kim’s side of the room stopped suddenly, so they hushed each other, but apparently, their roommate just turned on the other side. It was really hard to wake that one up.
“I’m sorry, Charlie. For what happened.”
“I’ve told you it’s fine. It wasn’t your fault.” He seemed genuine, there wasn’t the slightest sign of resentment in his voice. “Should we try to get some sleep?”
Ben agreed, only because he felt bad about Charlie staying up with him. The next day around midnight, however, he decided to evacuate to the Common Room instead, to not draw anyone’s attention. By some means, Gryffindor prefect followed shortly after him.
“Are you avoiding me again, Ben?”
“No,” he lied. “I just didn’t want to wake you…”
Charlie gave him a disapproving look but didn’t comment. He sat on the sofa in front of the fireplace, so Ben had no choice but to take place next to him. For someone as easy-going as Charlie, he could be surprisingly stubborn.
They were talking a lot that night, and the next ones as well. It became kind of their habit: when Ben couldn’t lie on the bed anymore, he was going down to the Common Room, and Charlie was joining him moments later. They didn’t really settle it, it just happened. At first, it was mostly Charlie who was carrying on the conversation. He shared his concerns about handling his responsibilities: being a prefect, playing Quidditch, and of course, studying for O.W.L.s. He admitted how worried he was that his future as a dragonologist, his biggest dream, depends on those exams. He tried to not talk about dragons themselves to not make his friend nervous. It turned out that Ben didn’t really know how to approach that big test ahead of them because he hadn’t figure out what to do after graduation – so they were wondering about it together. The next day, Ben joined the Astronomy Club.
Shortly after the start of the year, Penny’s sister got trapped in the portrait. They both were anxious about this situation, and they wanted to help. Nevertheless, Charlie was trying to focus on more positive things during their little sessions. He was describing how it is to grow up in the wizarding family and how fun it could be. He told about their magical family clock, proving that everybody is trying to take control over their fears somehow and there’s nothing wrong about it.
He also asked Ben a lot about his muggle childhood. He listened very carefully so he could repeat it later to his father. They agreed to finally visit each other in summer.
One night, when Charlie was going down the stairs, he heard some voices. It was his older brother talking with Ben. Bill must’ve been studying to his N.E.W.T.s.
“I didn’t expect to see you here, Bill.”
“Wow, you look terrible, Charlie,” he greeted him lovingly. “Go back to bed.”
“No, I can stay with you two,” younger Weasley protested.
“Bill is right,” joined Ben, a bit more strongly than normal. “You need to rest.”
“McGonagall will be pissed off if we lose the next game,” pointed out the Head Boy.
Charlie wanted to say something on that, but Bill’s face told him there’s no point to argue. And he was in fact quite tired.
“Are you sure…?” he asked, for formality sakes.
“Yeah, I will take care of Benny.”
The following day Charlie was well-rested, but he also felt guilty. Going to bed, he promised himself that he wouldn’t leave Ben again. So when he woke up later than usual, he panicked. He jumped off his place and was about to leave when he noticed that Copper’s bed wasn’t empty. Ben was lying in there, and it looked like he was sleeping soundly.
Charlie smiled to himself. Maybe everything will work out eventually.

Maya was the first one up she sat up to look around, it was obvious that her and Lucas’ parents had come down when they were asleep. Her and Josh were covered in another blanket, as was Zay. He was snoring lightly and Maya had so suppress her chuckle. When she looked over at her brother her heart melted. Riley was laying almost completely on top on him with her head on his chest and her fingers gripping his shirt. Lucas had both arms wrapped around her waist and his cheek resting on the top of her head. They were covered very slightly with a blue blanket Maya was sure their dad put over them, but in the scuffle of sleep it seemed to have been bunched down.
Maya quickly took a picture and sent it to the group with the caption “look at the love birds”, she crawled out of bed careful not to wake anyone and went upstairs.
Her parents were drinking coffee on the island she gave them both a hug as she turned on the kettle to make some tea.
“’Morning Maya” her Dad greeted her while grabbing her favorite mug from the shelf and handing it to her
“The rest of the gang still asleep downstairs?” Her mom asked
Maya nodded as she prepped her mug, “Yeah but I’m guessing they’ll be up soon, there’s no way though that Riley’s getting up without Lucas. Oh let me show you the picture!” Her parents shuffled in close to see the picture she had snapped of the two.
“They are just too cute for words!”
“Jumpin’ Junebugs, those two are really going for the long hall aren’t they Katy?”
Katy chuckled, “Sleeping together like that, yeah we should just start calling Riley our other daughter already. Gosh send me that picture Maya. Anyway, I was thinking of making waffles for you guys? What do you think?”
At that moment the rest of the gang traipsed up the stairs, Josh and Zay were joking around and laughing about the picture. Lucas was carrying Riley on his back with her arms around his shoulders and legs around his waist.
Maya’s mom was concerned when she saw them, “Oh is everything alright with Riley?”
Lucas and Josh both laughed while Josh answered, “Yeah she’s fine just sleepy and kind of incoherent until she has coffee”
Lucas’ Dad chuckled, “A girl after my own heart, we just made a fresh pot. You kids grab your mugs and help yourselves!”
Lucas nodded as he maneuvered around the kitchen with Riley still on his back, he got her a purple mug and prepped her coffee.
Josh just shook his head at them while Zay cheered Lucas on as he went through the steps before placing Riley on a stool with her coffee, Riley gave Lucas a kiss before he got his own coffee.
Maya sat down next to Riley and nudged her, “Wow he’s putting you before his coffee he must love you a lot”
Riley blushed as she started down at her coffee “Well he likes me enough to let me use him as a pillow, thanks for that picture by the way its my new background”
Maya beamed, “I’m honored!”
The gang laughed and ate breakfast together, Riley had been so worried that telling them would have her end up loosing them but she felt relief as they carried on like normal.
--
Later that day Maya and Riley were out together shopping, they girls were having a good time chatting on giving each other different clothing options.
As Maya gave Riley a floral dress she thought she’d look good in Riley spoke up. “This is really nice, thanks Maya.”
Maya gave her a confused look, “Thanks for what? We’re friends and its nice to have a close girl friend, the boys are not that much fun to shop with”
Riley nodded, “For that, for being my friend even knowing about all my issues. Like I don’t always respond to your text and most of the times when we hang out we just hang out at home because I’m too tired to get out of the house”
Maya shrugged, “We all got stuff, I love you like you’re my sister which no doubt you will be someday. I’m not going to treat you different for the way your mind works” Before Maya could think or make another movement Riley gave her a big hug,
“Oh Peaches!” Maya smiled and hugged her back, when they were friends in elementary school Riley had called Maya that and it warmed Maya’s heart to hear it again. “You know I love you too right?”
Maya nodded, “I do, don’t worry. Lucas told me you were concerned that we were going to leave you once we found out about your stuff.”
Riley nodded, “Yeah, but now I don’t!” Riley beamed as Maya chuckled
“Let’s go try this stuff on, and find an outfit that’ll knock Lucas over!”
The girls laughed as they headed into the dressing room. Unaware of someone listening intently to their conversation
--
As the normal school week progressed Riley generally felt well, Lucas was with her and always supportive of what she doing or try to do. And her friends and twin were a good distraction at lunch. But Riley had a nagging feeling that someone kept watching her. When she mentioned it to her friends, they told her they’d keep an eye out but so far nothing had come up.
Until Friday near the end of the day, Josh was off to work on his boxing with their grandpa who was in town so Riley was going home with Maya and Lucas. Zay was going to come over and they were going to play some games. Before they left though Maya had to go to the bathroom, so Riley went with her. While Maya was in the stall a girl that Riley did not like much approached Riley, Missy and Riley were never friends and Missy was always a bit rude to Riley.
“You know it’s never going to last?”
Riley spurred, “Wh-what are you talking about?”
Missy laughed a cruel laugh, “You and Lucas, and those friends of yours. Sooner or later they’ll get tired of dealing with you. I mean really, you and Lucas go on one date and suddenly your dating? I’ve been trying to get with that since eight grade and there’s no way you little nothing-Riley-Matthews will stay with him”
Riley was in tears now and her breathing was getting shallow, before Missy could start again Maya came out of the stall.
“Missy back the fuck off, my brother has never liked you everyone and their mother knows he’s only had eyes for Riley. And just because you feel entitled to date him doesn’t mean anything. Get your shit together and leave Riley alone” Maya seemed so cool and collected but inside she was filled with rage, Lucas wasn’t the only one with some anger problems.
Missy just smirked cruelly at Riley, “Think about what I said Riley, and don’t worry we’ll talk again soon”
Riley started crying harder once Missy left and once Maya washed her hands she grabbed both her and Riley’s bags and pulled Riley out, “Come on Riles we’ll go see Lucas okay?”
Riley nodded shaking slightly, everything Missy had told Riley was what she was afraid of. She was so in her head about it that she didn’t realize they had made it to the jeep until she was in Lucas’ arms. She realized she was still crying as she tuned into his voice, he was stroking her hair and murmuring words of comfort and promising her what Missy said wasn’t true. Lucas tossed his keys to Maya as he picked up Riley and put her in the back before he climbed in himself.
On the way back to his place Riley had stopped her crying but was still sniffling.
Katy immediately gave Riley a big hug when she came into the house.
“Oh Riley dear what happened? Did you fall?” When Riley was younger she was quiet clumsy and when her and Maya played Katy was often patching her up
Lucas spoke up angrily, “Some bitch corned her in the bathroom spewing bullshit.”
Katy glared at Lucas but let the swearing go, she knew how upset he was about the situation.
Riley spoke up softly, “It’s okay, and Maya defend me. Thanks Maya”
Maya came over and gave her a hug, “Always Honey”
Zay nodded, “Alright Sugar, do you want to talk about it or do you want to be distracted from it?”
Riley took a moment to think as Lucas came over and took her in his arms, she snuggled her face into his chest as she made her decision “I would like to be distracted, for now. And I want to cuddles”
Zay chuckled, “Well I’m sure Lucas can give you cuddles while we hang out, why don’t we play a game.”
Maya nodded, “That sounds good, let’s play a video game!”
Lucas grabbed Riley’s legs putting them around his waist as he held her closer to his chest, “That sounds like a plan”
They headed down Lucas carrying Riley, “I know you’re still thinking about what she said, but you’re not nothing. To me you’re a princess”

it really stresses me out that my best friends are the smartest people i know cause like. they're over here getting 1500s on their sats and applying to ivy leagues and taking literally the hardest classes in our school and getting tons of awards and honors and then theyll turn around to me and bitch about how much of an idiot they are and how they have nothing going for them and they'll never get into college and it's like. what world are you living in? if you're dumb then what the fuck am i? i struggled for years to get past a 1350 on the sat and FINALLY got it and i was so proud but then you turn around with your 1560 and call yourself an idiot? and i also know that the reason why a lot of my friends are like this is bc they have parents that diminish their self worth and always think they can do better and so they all have crazy low self esteem and are always comparing themselves to people who do better than them, but at the end of the day y'all are all going to MIT or princeton or whatever and i am most definitely not. and i also know this is a bit hypocritical cause i know i'm one of the smartest kids in my school and i have diminished my own accomplishments all the time but i'm trying to stop that now and actually be proud of myself but it makes it so hard to do that when my friends aren't proud of themselves. cause if they were judging me by their standards i think they would have a heart attack

Summer 2018 is Here
Summer Vacation 2018 – What my Kids are doing.
The summer has started and vacation time is here.  I thought my kids did plenty last summer but this summer is a doozy.  When I'm talking action packed it is pretty high up there on the action packed meter.  At least for my kids so far in their lives.  A lot of driving to different summer camps too.  Not so much fun but we all make sacrifices for our kids, right!  Shall we break it down?  Well follow me and see what my family is doing.
  My Youngest son
Tumblr media
Our little guy just finished fourth grade.  As mentioned in a previous article he is in accelerated extra gifted class.  He absolutely loved the class.  The only thing that he had trouble with is Mandarin.  Learning any new language is a challenge.  I think learning Mandarin is more than challenging.  Everything really is foreign.  Besides the learning of new words and learning their meanings and pronunciation, there is the writing.  Mandarin characters are very complex.  If there is a missed curve or a missed small line, the whole meaning is changed and is wrong.  My Tiger wife really put in the extra time and work with my son throughout the school year to end it really well.
 The Littlest Cellist
My son started taking cello lessons this year with the same cello teacher that my older son and daughter learn from.  He really is an amazing teacher.  I can't recommend him highly enough.  He is already up to Suzuki Book Three and finished the year playing the Humoresque at his recital.  He was also lucky to be picked for his school talent show and played this piece in front of his school.
youtube
Music Camp
This summer as I write this he is at a three week music camp in upstate New York!  One of my wife's friends actually told us about this camp a couple of months ago.  We were able to apply late thanks to her and were successful in auditioning and being accepted.  This is the first time that he has gone away for any length of time.  My wife is worried silly because you can't call them.  She actually sent him a letter yesterday.  We don't know how it will go but we will let you know when we pick him up in three weeks.
My daughter
My only daughter just successfully finished seventh grade.  She settled into middle school this past year and has a growing circle of friends.  She had a great year academically passing all of her classes with flying colors!
CTY – Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth
After taking the SCAT test this past year she qualified and was able to enroll into CTY.  She is gone for three weeks this summer taking a creative writing course in Roger Williams University.  Since this is her first experience away from home and being in a real “college” like experience I was curious to see her reaction.
youtube
We walked onto the campus and I could see a glimmer of a smile.  As we were walking around the campus and signing up for everything and getting her books the glimmer was starting to show in her eyes.  Slowly ever so slowly curiosity on her part was turning into realization that this might be more than just interesting.  We got her keys to her room and found her dorm.  We found her room and saw that it was in a nice suite with multiple rooms.  The room was nice and clean with a beautiful view of the bridge that led to Newport.  Her smile was growing from ear to ear.
Tumblr media
The nail that sealed it was when we went to have lunch at the cafeteria.  Oh my Lord!!!  I forgot how much food there was at college cafeterias.  However, Roger Williams took it to an amazing level I never thought possible.  My daughter was gone.  She loves food!  The food was glorious.  She couldn't contain herself.  I knew right there and then, there was going to be NO home sickness for her…  She would enjoy every one of those meals to the fullest.  I just warned her about the freshman 15 and told her please don't have that happen in only three weeks!  She is there right now.
Music Camp Part II
Tumblr media
My daughter was accepted to the same music camp that my son is at right now in upstate NY.  She will be attending that a few days after her CTY session ends.  There are two divisions at the camp, a junior and senior division.  She will be attending the senior session for four weeks.  I will update this when she goes and finishes.
My oldest son
My oldest son has been busy from the moment we landed on our trip from Paris(Read about that here). That is when we received the email that he was selected to The New York Youth Symphony and within days of that he was notified that he was selected to All-State.  Since this was Junior Year this was going to be the Big One!  Let's break it down.
School Work
My son enrolled into four AP Classes this past year, American History, AP English, Statistics and Biology.  His last academic class was Honors Pre-Calculus/Calculus and Orchestra to round it off.  It was tough, real tough.  Any parent who has had kids go through it knows what I mean.  If your child is going to be a junior, the best advice I can give is to make sure your kid can maximize their time by utilizing time management skills.  Any student that has aspirations to go to an elite college has multiple things going on besides school work.  The extra-curriculars, the volunteering, the clubs, teams and just trying to squeeze out some time for fun and relaxation.  This is the make or break year and if you've come this far you have to finish it, right?
The results
My son is good at math but NOT great.  He ended the year with a final grade of an A-.  All the other classes he got A's and A+'s.  He finished the year strong and I am more really proud of him.  I saw how many nights where he only slept for a couple of hours and went to school.  It was really tough to watch but it also made me more than proud.  I knew that he was the type to do what it took to get things done when it mattered.  A useful trait when going into the real world.
Standardized Tests
My son took the SAT twice so far and he will take it one last time this summer.  The first time he took it he did okay but not great.  After thinking that he was ready by taking a few practice tests and getting in the 1500's he took the test.  He had a rude awakening that was a shock to him and us.  He received a 1410 with a 23/24 on the essay.
youtube
Our whole family was shocked to say the least.  Though we were happy with the 23/24 on the essay, the score was not what we thought he would get.  I know, I know some of you must be thinking what a jerk.  That is a fine score, blah, blah…  I'm okay with the criticism because I know what I am, a Tiger Dad.  Our whole family worked our asses as a collective to do everything we could to help my son get into the best school he could get into.  A 1410 would not cut it.  After reading horror stories this year of Asian males with 1560's not getting into Boston University, we were scared!
Round Two
My son didn't have time to take the SAT again until March because of too many time conflicts.  We were so nervous.  Everything hat he had worked for was going to be up in the air until he took the test again and got his results.  It was so stressful for all of us.  He took the test and we waited…
The Wait
So what did I do during the waiting to keep me occupied?  I started going on reddit and College Confidential.  I was on College Confidential to do research on safety schools if he bombed. There is a reddit subtopic for SAT that is good.  You have kids that took the test and discuss the test and the questions that they thought were difficult.  After two long weeks… The results were in.
SAT Scores
After all the hard work that was put in during the past summer with taking online SAT courses with Prep Expert.  After bombing on the first try of the SAT.  After the months of not taking the test because my son was too busy with other extra-curriculars and lastly after the two weeks for the tests to be graded.  Judgement Day had arrived!  My son logged into the College Board site, put in his credentials and opened up the link for SAT Test Scores.   The Score was 1520!!!  Hahahaah!!!!!  He did it and we were so proud of him!  We were giving each other high fives and basking in the knowledge that our dreams were still on track.
youtube
  Final Word on Standardized Testing
The score of 1520 was great and that put him into the 99 percentile.  We were more than pleased as you can tell by the gif up above.  We decided that he will take it one more time to see if he could raise his score up just a little more.  I've seen videos on YouTube and other blogs that there is no reason to take the test again once you score above 1500 but every one of them are not Asian males.  As stated earlier, there are Asian students with the same background and similar everything as my son and they were denied into every Top tier school.  I think that we've come too far to say to ourselves in the future, “What If”?  So one last time to see if he can raise his score more and if he doesn't, then so be it.  At least we gave it our all.
The Rest of the Summer
My son is finishing his last year of interning and volunteering at the Summer Engineering Camp that he has been a part of since sixth grade.  He's making some money and fulfilling his National Honor Society Volunteer Hour Requirement at the same time.
During the month of July he is making sure that he writes his common application essay and at least five of his favorite schools supplementary essays.  On top of that he has to continue with his cello practice in order to audition again for the New York Youth Symphony.  Lastly, study for the SAT one last time.
A Reward for his Hard Work
There is a reward at the end of the tunnel.  I'm not a monster that wants my son to go crazy.  As in life there must be rewards for hard work and I think this is a great reward.  One of his best friends invited him and another buddy to go to France for two weeks in August.  It's in a small town in the southern part of France.  I looked on Google Maps and it looks absolutely amazing!  Better yet another of his best friends will be traveling in Italy and it will only be an hour away from where my son will be staying.  They might be able to hang out together while over there.  That would be so amazing for them.  So, he would have a place to stay but just needs to buy a plane ticket and have spending money.  How could I say no to that?  I hope he has the time of his life!
Here's hoping that all you Tiger Moms and Tiger Dads have the best summer vacation of 2018!  If any of you have any questions or comments please go to our Facebook page and leave them there.  I will answer as best as I can.  I would love to hear what other students and parents are doing this summer!
