This book was definitely a winner for me. I mean Arthurian legend retold ✅, a ton of lgbt+ representation ✅, a diverse cast of characters ✅, plus it’s in SPACE!! ✅✅ What more could you ask for? Once and future is a retelling of the legend of King Arthur but with a twist. Ari is the 52nd reincarnation of Arthur and she is not at all what Merlin was prepared for. To be fair he also wasn’t really prepared for earth to have been abandoned and for humanity to live in space. With the shady Mercer corporation owning everything from planets to water. Honestly it is one of my favorite reads from last year and I can’t wait for the second one to come out! 10/10 would recommend. Exchanging Aria had become increasingly easier as the years passed, and at this point, she didn’t so much dread having to hand her daughter over as much as she looked forward to spending a bit of time with Arthur before doing so.  She also saw her free time as something to look forward to, as it allowed her to explore parts of her life that she couldn’t quite do with her daughter and made her miss the little girl, making their reunions so much more rewarding.  It made her cherish her time with Aria more, and as a result, appreciate Arthur for his part in bringing her into her life.  Walking up to his apartment, she knocked on the door and adjusted Aria in her arms.  When the door opened, she smiled and held the girl out to her.  “Delivery for Arthur Pendragon.  I’ll need your signature in the form of a belly kiss right...” she paused and tickled Aria’s belly, “here.”

Since he’d strained one of his pecs doing pull-ups at the carnival, because he was an idiot, he’d been lifting gradually heavier weights with his arms in an effort to rehab.  It was dreadfully boring, sticking to only one activity at a time, and the only way he’d been able to really pass the time was with documentaries.  He knew it was weird, but he didn’t care.  Plus, one gym patron in particular had asked him more than once about what he was watching.  While they hadn’t gotten into details a whole lot, he was still aware of the man’s presence as he prepared to start his workout.  

Before he started the National Geographic one about the Roman Legion, he looked over his shoulder to get the man’s attention.  “Hey, sir. Arthur?  Is this one okay with you?”

A card waits for her. On the picture on the front is a vintage image of a child holding a candy cane. Inside is written: Surprise, somewhere in my office, I have hidden a box of candy. If you can find it without destroying the place, there is another waiting for you on my person. Merry Christmas, Arthur.

Shock was pretty sure she had a nightmare starring the child on the card once, she was also certain that it involved a candy cane. The irony of her opening the card as she was hiding Arthur’s present in his office wasn’t lost on her as she finished taping the last snowflake into place. First, a warm smile came across her face at the thought Arthur put into her gift. Second, came the dread when she realized she should have opened his card first before turning his office into a winter wonderland, glitter bombs and all.

Shock let out a sigh as she mumbled a soft “son of a bitch” under her breath. She went to the door to stick her head out, “JIMMY, I’M GONNA NEED YOUR LADDER AGAIN!” Shock yelled to the janitor busy mopping down the hall. It was time to get to work undoing all her hard work to find her gift.

Broken tools, Broken hearts || Arthur & Felix

The day had lead to this build up. Felix had no idea where he had been, what he had been doing or why he had no recollection of the prior period of time, but a gut instinct told him that he had been tantalizingly close to Arthur. Like he had been just out of reach, that he had been a hair away from the other man and Felix was just held out of reach. How long was he gone? He didn’t know. Maybe it was a day, a week, or even a month. He hoped it was one of the smaller amounts, but right now, standing outside their door, he was buzzing with excitement and he decided it wasn’t worth guessing and wondering. All he wanted to do was see Arthur’s handsome face. 

Taking out his key, Felix unlocked the front door and entered the house. He softly closed the door behind him, putting it back on the latch as quietly as he could. He paused, however. He remembered how Arthur used to talk of his hammer and how it should be buried at the bottom of the ocean, seeming far more relieved knowing that it wasn’t anywhere near either of them than thinking it was safer in Felix’s hands. It was out of harm's way when it wasn’t near them, in Arthur’s opinion. For this reason, Felix took the tool from its very out-in-the-open home on his toolbelt and instead slipped it into his jacket pocket. It was just a big enough space to conceal it for now. Once he was back in the house and settled down a bit, he would find a safe place to keep it.  

Satisfied that Arthur wouldn’t notice it now, he returned to grinning brightly, tucked some straying pieces of hair behind his ears, and straightened out his clothes. “Lovebug?” he called into their home, stepping further in and glancing into rooms as he passed them. His heart pounded and he could barely contain running about the house like a giddy child. “Arthur, are ya home?”
