Jonny sims is so funny bc I genuinely believe he created one of the most complex, well-crafted, and downright genius characters I’ve ever come across in all my years of English majoring, but then when it came time to name him he just happened to catch a glimpse of his reflection and said good enough. Iconic.

i think when i was 13 i wanted silly fandom stuff and books and i still have some of those things around that are sentimental to me. i don't think many of those girls will look back on old lipstick tubes that have expired with as much fondness, i wonder if they'll regret focusing on cultivating an aesthetic during their formative years when they'll soon learn that's not a replica for a personality

Recently, I've been thinking about something. We know that after Grian was kicked from Hermitcraft and after the initial hurt and anger simmered down a lot of Hermits started regretting kicking him to an extent. They had questions and now no one to answer them. And around every corner is some painful reminder of the friend they lost, some building he made, or a place where some bit or game happened. While that is certainly very normal, I can't stop thinking about how this already angst idea is only made worse by the idea that, things probably feel even more dull than they would now that he's not amping their emotions. In all the minigames and group meetings Grian's absence is like a hollow chasm that refuses to be ignored. None of it seems to be quiet as fun anymore. I kinda doubt many of them would connect this to Watcher feeding but maybe I'm wrong. Just the idea of the Hermits barely being able to make it 5 steps without some reminder or Grian but amped by the fact that they're so used to the joy he brought with his shenanigans, both naturally and through the occasional Watcher Nom Noming.
I think about this SO OFTEN actually and how like.... its true. Its just plain true!!! Things are just less in Hermitcraft now, and theres this horrible tangle of complexity surrounding that because on the one hand, theres just..... not as much EXCITEMENT as there used to be when Grian was around, and on the other hand, they never consented to having their emotions messed with in the first place-- but theres still that acute sense of loss. They lost something and there are reminders everywhere and while some members have channeled that loss into bitterness and hate, a lot of people are just... sad. Its just really sad. I always imagine the Empires crossover has a lot more of a subdued tone to it, since Grian (who had helped plan and organize it) wasnt there to join in.
Its gonna be a very complicated reunion, once the Grian Rescue Squad returns with our resident Watcher in tow

I have a headcanon that my courier is from a small Islamic town/community near shady sands. I'm not sure whether the ncr would consider them tribals, bc they have a distinct culture outside of that of the mainstream ncr citizens, but they aren't indigenous (iirc the great khans are similar, bc they came from vault dwellers, and I doubt the vault dwellers in question were actually turkic or mongolian given how small that diaspora is). Do you have any thoughts on what a tribal actually is or means in postwar america?
Canonically, Shady Sands was founded by one group of former inhabitants of Vault 15, and other groups from the vault became the Khans, Jackals, and Vipers.
As far as how the label "tribal" is applied in canon, it's not incredibly clear. When Caesar, House, or the NCR speak of "tribals" it's often perjorative, referring to groups they deem uncivilized; more broadly, it's frequently used to refer to any distinct cultural group that lacks formal government and is self-sufficient.
Anthropologically speaking, a tribe is a group linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect—which covers a range of post-war societies and could very well encompass the society you described. Of course, there are still certain connotations associated with the terms (especially "tribal") both irl and in the game that you may want to avoid, especially if you're incorporating Islam and potentially MENA/MENASA diaspora.
I don't mean to suggest you wouldn't do your due diligence, and you've obviously given this a lot of thought, but since we're talking about how it relates to canon and the precedents Fallout sets wrt its fictional tribes range from thoughtless to abhorrent, you may prefer to refer to your society by a different term than to adopt the baggage that canon has attached to tribe.
Josh Sawyer has explained that, in Honest Hearts at least, the tribes were meant to be made up of descendents of diverse ethnic backgrounds, and I imagine that was likely the intent in the other games. However (and to his credit, JS owns up to this in the linked post), the end result still played into a lot of Western stereotypes of Indigenous Peoples, particularly Indigenous Peoples of North America.
Of course the problems didn't begin or end with Honest Hearts—from New Vegas' Blackfoots of Arizona (not to be confused with the irl Blackfoot Nation, whose traditional lands comprise what is now Alberta, Canada, and Montana, U.S.) to the Whachutu tribals of Peoria (from Fallout Tactics), whose name is a reference to the fictional African tribe called the Wachootoo from Ace Ventura, there are a ton of examples of how not to handle a topic like this in a culturally sensitive/respectful way.
I'm glad that the dev team at Obsidian is taking criticism of these depictions to heart and involving more sensitivity readers, but unfortunately there's a lot of shit baked into the Fallout canon that anyone making derivative works has to navigate with extreme care.
(Also, I'd love to hear more about your courier and their community!)

Ok of course Silver is crazier. He is an insane trauma ball of a human. I've been enjoying posts talking about how ridiculous the things he does are, and how little we truly know and see of him. And obviously I agree, a huge amount of what we see is a projection. But the relationships he formed with Flint and Madi were REAL, and so much of the crazy stuff he does later on he does out of love, and that matters.

Ironically I think Watanuki would actually be the LEAST likely to know if he’s changed in regards to Doumeki, even though we saw it in action in the last chapter.
But then again, on this last page we see him actually drop the act ENTIRELY and just be genuinely sincere. He doesn’t do this often, but this page alone makes me wonder if he really is a lot more self aware than I give him credit for. Like how in the previous chapter we could see him being honest and open with Doumeki, consciously building their relationship back together through communication - and I don’t think he would be capable of that if he wasn’t at least partially aware of himself and their relationship.
SO MAYBE THIS IS IT.
THE SURPRISE MOMENT THAT SHOWS THAT YES, EVEN WATANUKI KNOWS
HE DOES THESE THINGS ON PURPOSE AND EXTREMELY CONVINCINGLY BUT UNDER ALL THAT HE REALLY DOES KNOW WHAT HIS RELATIONSHIPS MEAN AND HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO HIM
ESPECIALLY DOUMEKI

random unfinished thought time but idk. feels weird to argue that death shouldn't exist on remnant / anywhere bc it's not "natural" thing that just happens but rather something the gods came up with—let alone arguing that the gods aren't really gods they're just pretending to be ones like... they sure fit the definition of one so???—bc by the same logic you could say that remnant and humans shouldn't exist bc they're as much of a creation of theirs as perma-death is so. . . what is the end goal here, really? am i missing something??
