so a while ago I made a list of how every victim falls in Ace Attorney to determine the most common cause of death. this includes assaults/attempted murders (e.g. Edgeworth being attacked in The Kidnapped Turnabout, DGS1-4, DGS2-2, LV-1)

OTHER NOTES:
I honestly thought blunt force trauma would be the highest when I first listed these. I was wrong!
I know (MAJOR PLVPW SPOILERS) that no one in PLVPW actually died except Newton Belduke, but I still felt as though it was prudent to list them here as victims.
Tasing is a form of electrocution.
Technically, falling and getting crushed could both be forms of blunt force trauma, but “blunt force trauma” is more “something hits you” than “you hit something” imo? I think it’s a distinction worth making.
There are a lot fewer poisonings than I thought. I didn’t know whether to put Diego’s poisoning under Memories or Beginnings, so I put both.
Simon Keyes was pretty inventive tbh
English Turnabout is the only case in PLVPW with a proper name. I generally ID the chapters with court segments as the ones that are the “case names”, which works for every case but the last.
I might have missed some? I know for sure I missed the original Di-Jun Huang, but I couldn’t find his cause of death poking around the wiki. Let me know if I missed any more!

hm okay. so i said i was gonna write about this and idk if anyone else actually cares but im Thinking About It.
from what ive seen abt the general tumblr analysis of malvolio (which i certainly dont claim to be an expert on. im just here!), there's a lot of talk abt neurodivergence, particularly autism, as it relates to his character. which is rad obviously! but as someone currently playing malvolio myself, i feel the one of the most important, maybe THE most important factor for me in interpreting malvolio is class, and how he relates to it.
nobility and status is, more broadly, A Thing that comes up in twelfth night. although the primary part of viola's disguise is that she's dressing as a man, she's also a noblewoman dressing as a servant. in shakespeare's time, class lines were pretty strictly defined and relationships between nobility and servants were strongly disapproved of, so viola's position in the class ladder certainly isn't irrelevant to her romantic prospects. (hence why olivia asks about cesario's parentage in 1.5 -- she's not just making small talk, she wants to ensure that he's not impossibly below her). while actual servants having relationships with nobility was considered scandalous, the idea of love as service was common and appears throughout shakespeare's plays; viola calls orsino olivia's servant because of his love for her, for one example, and antonio's extremely homoerotic devotion to sebastian manifests itself through his dedication to service. and of course there's viola herself, who literally serves her love orsino, until her true identity is revealed and she becomes "orsino's mistress, and his fancy's queen," the roles of servant and commander switching through their love. and then we get to malvolio!
(from here on out i'm gonna talk a lot about my personal analysis of his character, which you can feel free to disagree with. every actor who plays him does it differently and i think that's one of the great things about his character!) malvolio is frequently considered a parallel to the various lovers in the play, most often compared to orsino as their semi-obsession and courtship of olivia is similar, but i think, because of a lot of the stuff about master/servant relationships i talked about above, he's also comparable to viola in some ways. what makes him different, though, is that his love for olivia is almost secondary to his love for what she can give him -- power and respect. malvolio, presumably, was born to a lower class family, and has attained the rank of steward because of his obedience and commitment to rules. and he believes that through this obedience he will get the status he rightly deserves, that jove and his stars will bestow luck upon him. although many things about the play's class system don't particularly translate to modern times, one thing became clear to me pretty quickly about malvolio: he's kind of a bootlicker. now, don't get me wrong, i love his character! but fundamentally, he is someone who believes he can escape the oppressive class structures of his time and place if he just works hard enough. and he works hard! he dedicates himself to olivia's service, and part of why he hates the fool, or sir toby's entourage, is that they aren't working. they have the luxury to sit around and joke while he's had to work every second of his life to get this far! so while he's, in some ways, sympathetic, it's pretty understandable why so many people hate him.
and then we get to the prank. now, i think it's really important to remember, while sir toby is pretty much a ne'er-do-well, he is nobility. he's olivia's uncle, and although he may not have money, he has status. and in sir toby's mind, the crime malvolio has committed is rising above his station -- he's disrespected toby with his chastisement and threats to kick him out, and he's "disrespected" olivia by desiring her, which of course because of his status is considered inherently predatory. (this is, additionally, why i find lesbian malvolio so interesting as a re-interpretation, adds a lil something to the sense of malvolio being predatory just because of who he is). so, of course, malvolio must have everything he's wanted for so long dangled in front of him, and then have it ripped away. only fair, right?
although twelfth night is a play that challenges convention in a lot of ways, we're still living in the 1600s (1500s? fuck, when was this play written?), and we have to have some approximation of returning to proper social order at the end of the play. orsino marries a noblewoman, olivia marries a nobleman, and malvolio stays where he is. what changes, towards the end of the play, is that malvolio has realized, depressing as it is, that he can't win. he tried to do everything olivia wanted, and this resulted in punishment. in his letter to her in 5.1, he says he has forgotten his station, that he speaks only out of injury, which he certainly would have never done before. and ironically, once malvolio has abandoned his striving his grandeur, the play finally gives him the dignity he's been denied. his lines in the final scene of the play are the only time he ever speaks in verse instead of prose -- speaks in the language of nobility, lovers, sympathetic characters, instead of that of servants and "lighter people."
in some ways the ending of twelfth night is a bit of a bummer -- malvolio storms off, pledging revenge on everyone who has stood there and laughed while he was stripped of his dignity, and as far as we no there is no conclusion, no justice is served. how can we just, like, walk away and be fine with that? i guess to answer that i'd paraphrase an article mentioned in the back of the folgers: the greatest revenge malvolio gets, the greatest victory over all the nobility with which he shares the stage, is being, in the end, the most memorable character in the play.

Note
I just performed a scene from 12th night in acting class. No one in my class knew what Malvolio's letter with the MAOI meant- do you have any ideas?
Do you mean that whole section, just the letter, or just the M.O.A.I riddle? Well, the letter alone will be long enough (possibly too long) for a single post. Let’s see… The first section first:
To the unknown beloved, this, and my good wishes.Jove knows I love But who?Lips, do not move,No man must know. (2.5.90-91 & 95-98)
On some level, this is a parody of a certain strain of Elizabethan love poetry that places more importance on the wittiness of the poetry than on the expression of love. The beginning is quite obvious: it’s a letter addressed anonymously (with the writer’s best wishes) to a mysterious lover, presumably left somewhere this lover is going to find the letter. The reason that the write invokes Jove is partly in reference to his numerous amorous exploits, but it’s probably also a substitution for the all-knowing Christian God (because it was forbidden to mention God on stage since the 1606 Act of Abuses). It’s a trope for the beloved’s name to always be on the lover’s lips, but in this case, the lover must prevent her lips from moving in case she gets found out, since ‘no man must know’. This is the first suggestion that it’s not exactly a socially acceptable kind of love.
I may command where I adore,But silence like a Lucrece knife,With bloodless stroke my heart doth gore.M. O. A. I. doth sway my life. (2.5.103-106)
The socially unacceptable element of this love is expanded upon in this second quatrain: there is a difference in rank. The lover is in a position to ‘command’, despite the fact that her adoration of her lover places her in a lower position to him in terms of love. This is also an avowal of the fact that, despite the fact that she has the power to command, she won’t. Hence silence hurts her internally, like a metaphorical, invisible (and therefore bloodless) version of the knife with which Lucrece killed herself. The reference to Lucrece is odd, since the reason that Lucrece commits suicide kills herself is because she’s been violated. It presents the uncomfortable suggestion that Lucrece killed herself to hide her love (possibly for Tarquin). The more obvious suggestion is that Lucrece is the model of chastity, and, therefore like Lucrece, the writer’s chaste feelings are killing her. But it is also a reference to Olivia’s seal which is a picture of Lucrece: ‘the impressure her Lucrece, with which she uses to seal’ (2.3.92-3). The ‘sway’ in the last line means ‘govern’; thus whatever ‘M.O.A.I.’ is rules over her life.
There’s been no satisfactory description for what ‘M.O.A.I.’ means, though many have tried to explain it. To quote from the introduction to the Arden Edition of Twelfth Night:
[Leslie] Hotson, for example, sees the letters as the initials of the four elements: Mare (sea), Orbis (earth), Aer (air) and Ignis (fire) – although, as Craik points out (Ard2, 68), the first two elements should surely be Aqua and Terra. L.S. Cox in 1962 read them as an anagram of ‘I am O[livia]’ – although they might equally well be taken as a clue to the dubious authorship of the letter: M(aria or) O(livia) A(m) I? Some readings have been based on early modern theories of language. Thus [Keir] Elam sees Malvolio’s hermeneutic labours as a parody of the earnest anagrammatic endeavours of Renaissance magi to discover the sacred Tetragrammaton, the secret four-letter name of God (in this case Malvolio himself; compare 'Pigrogromitus’ above)...
I personally think it might be something as simple as the first letter of Malvolio’s name, followed by the last letter of his name, and then by the second letter of his name, and finally by the second last letter of his name. Considering the context of the little riddle it makes very little sense for the ‘M.O.A.I’ to refer to anything other than the [supposed] lover’s name: ‘O(livia) am I’ doth sway my life’ just makes no sense. But perhaps it doesn’t really matter what the actual answer to the riddle is, since Malvolio is so ready to fall for it from the beginning: 'M.' Malvolio. 'M' – why, that begins my name!’ (2.3.124-5) and is more concerned to make the riddle fit his name than to find out its true meaning: ‘to crush this a little it would bow to me’ (2.5.137-38). If anything, the enigma of ‘M.O.A.I.’ gives Malvolio a chance to redeem himself by making it not about him. But then, he failed at the first test when he chose to open a letter addressed to an ‘unknown beloved’, especially since he thinks it was written by Olivia, showing that he already thinks that he could be the beloved it addresses.
In any case, it becomes quite obvious who the letter is referring to in the next prose section:
If this fall into thy hand, revolve. In my stars I am above thee; but be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em. Thy Fates open their hands; let thy blood and spirit embrace them; and, to inure thyself to what thou art like to be, cast thy humble slough and appear fresh. Be opposite with a kinsman, surly with servants; let thy tongue tang arguments of state; put thyself into the trick of singularity: she thus advises thee that sighs for thee. Remember who commended thy yellow stockings, and wished to see thee ever cross-gartered: I say, remember. Go to, thou art made, if thou desirest to be so; if not, let me see thee a steward still, the fellow of servants, and not worthy to touch Fortune’s fingers. Farewell.
She that would alter services with thee,
The Fortunate Unhappy
This is simpler than the first part. The writer importunes the beloved to ‘revolve’ – that is, to think carefully. She may have been born into a higher rank (it’s in her stars – meaning it was decided by fate), but he shouldn’t be scared of becoming more noble. To paraphrase, people are noble by birth, or because they earn their rank (Shakespeare himself became a gentleman), because they become noble by a lucky chance (I really don’t think there is any sexual innuendo involved in these lines). The fates ‘open their hands’ – meaning they make a generous offer –so he should embrace it body and soul. And, to get used to what he is going to be, he should shed his humble behaviour. He should be hostile to a particular family member of hers, talk about important political topics, and be original/act unusually. The one who advises him so is the one who sighs amorously for him.
The bit about the yellow stockings is either that yellow stocking were a young people’s garish fashion associated with bachelors, or, more likely, a fashion hilariously out of date by the time the play was written. The same applies to cross-gartering, since references to cross-gartering appear in texts from the 1580s, and the play was probably written in 1602. ‘Go to’ means something like ‘Come on’, and ‘thou art made’ means ‘your fortune is made’. If he doesn’t take this opportunity, then he doesn’t deserve to be fortunate, and should stay a servant and a steward. The last is either an exhortation and an encouragement, or the last chance for Malvolio to be humble about his life and duties.
‘She that would alter service with thee’ means that he is a servant and she is the mistress even though she would prefer to be his servant, and she is Fortunate-Unhappy because she has fortune and nobility but is unhappy in love.
Does that help? It’s not all that obscure, but it does involve a lot of small references to various not-so-obvious facts.

I’m attempting to teach the cats “I’ll be right back,” for those times when I just want to get up and grab my phone/a book/the tea that’s been oversteeping while I sat trapped in the most purring and fuzzy of traps, without sending cats scattering in wide-eyed shock and disappointment that I would so betray them by moving just when they’d settled in for a really good snooze.
And by jove, I think they’ve got it.  This is the third time in a row Olivia has heard “I’ll be right back” and stayed where she was while I rose and returned.  She’ll sit up to watch, but as soon as I sit back down, she curls up by my side again in a contented comma.
I don’t know about old dogs, but this old cat (well, respectable middle-aged cat) can still learn new tricks.
