Today, in my "counter the phobia" list #3:
Item 1: bugs and spiders Item 2: horses Item 3: the deep sea* and its denizens.

From the info section under this video:
The site for Dive 06 of the second Voyage to the Ridge 2022 expedition, located along the upper slopes of a Mid-Atlantic Ridge parallel normal fault, provided ideal conditions needed to support beautiful, diverse, and dense coral and sponge communities.
And a second short video uploaded about the same time:

Video info:
During Dive 02 of the second Voyage to the Ridge 2022 expedition, we explored the Moytirra Vent Field. Near the end of the dive, we encountered this active black smoker hydrothermal chimney that was covered with small limpets and shrimp.
*Naturally, anytime you are near the ocean, treat her with the utmost respect and caution. But I've seen the attitude that the ocean is full of terrible horrors. And that makes me sad. Because it is just a set of places on Earth, full of Earthlings that live there, just vibing.
Yes, those creatures are very different from us. But difference need not trigger disgust. If you can look at a vampire squid or a crinoid, or a brittle star, or a squat lobster, and see them as a fellow creature, my hunch is you'll be able to do the same for a human who uses a wheelchair, or stims, or has a different skin color, or drools, or limps, or has to wear dark glasses indoors, or...
You get the idea.

Cephalopod lovers, have you ever heard of the Dumbo octopus? 🐙 Members of the genus Grimpoteuthis, these critters are the deepest-living octopus known to science and can be found near the seafloor at depths of up to 13,000 ft (4,000 m). These adorable cephalopods flap their ear-like fins as they move through the water—a behavior that inspired scientists to name the genus Grimpoteuthis after Disney’s flying elephant. Unlike many other octopuses, Dumbo octopuses do not have ink sacs. Some scientists think it’s because they rarely encounter predators in their extremely remote, deep-sea habitats.

Poralia belongs to the genus of jellyfish of the Ulmaridae family. It is a monotypic genus containing one species, Poralia rufous. This jellyfish has a bell about 9 cm (3.5 in) in diameter with eight tentacles in the center and 30 thin, spindly appendages on the outside of the disc. When moving, Poralia can take on a wave-like shape, either spreading out its bell until it becomes completely flat, or closing it until it looks like a large balloon. The bell of the jellyfish is red, red or pink in color, sometimes appearing brown from a distance. Poralia is a pelagic jellyfish and lives at great depths in most of the world's oceans. This jellyfish is very fragile, and most specimens raised for study were damaged.

"However, if Hesiod had little notion that the world was a κόσμος , scholars are as quick to tell us that Chaos has no relation with its English homonym. Rather based on the root χα ‘gap’ and χάσκειν or χαίνειν ‘to gap’, it refers to yawning or gapping and in no way contains ‘the idea of confusion or disorder’. 11 Although an etymological connection between Χάος and χάσκειν is plausible, we should remember that etymologies reveal linguistic histories rather than common understandings and these two aspects seem to have diverged widely. The cosmological poet Pherecydes of Syros appears to have equated Chaos with primal water, perhaps based on the verb χεῖσθαι to flow (DK 7 B 1). While this is often dismissed as a later addition by the Stoics, who similarly understood the word through the related verb χείομαι (SVF 1.103), I see no reason why the view cannot have been held by both Pherecydes and the Stoics. Wordplay is very common in early Greek poetry and the imagery of a watery beginning is well established in Mediterranean cosmologies. 12 Even Homer calls Okeanos and Tethys the father and mother of all the gods (Il. 14.200–4).
If Pherecydes’ Chaos resided in the water, for others it was found in the underworld. Aristophanes in Birds (698) describes Chaos as the winged partner of Eros. While Chaos’ wings may simply complement the play’s feathered protagonists, when Chaos is said to mingle with Eros in a recess of Tartarus, it is unlikely that the audience envisioned a gap. Nor is the god happy to remain in a single location and elsewhere in Birds , Chaos appears in the sky (192). Aristotle differs again, interpreting Chaos in relation to making space, this time perhaps etymologizing it according to the verb χωρέω (Phys. 209a). 13
Moving effortlessly between flowing, gapping and making space, Chaos also at times appears to be exactly what so many scholars distance it from: disorder. For you [Eros] gave shape to everything out of dark confused shapelessness. As though you had removed a tomb burying the whole universe alike, you banished that Chaos which enveloped it to the recesses of farthest Tartarus . . . 14 This too was the Chaos opted for in Latin by Ovid. In his Metamorphosis, Ovid (1.7–9) describes it as rudis indigestaque moles nec quicquam nisi pondus iners congestaque eodem non bene iunctarum discordia semina rerum. A shapeless, unwrought mass of inert bulk and nothing more, with the discordant seeds of disconnected elements all heaped together in anarchic disarray. 15 This understanding also appears in some Egyptian translations and when the Gnostics searched for an equivalent for the Egyptian cosmological term Nun (the primal waters of disorder) they settled on Χάος. 16
While we may rightly claim that these authors – some of them quite late – simply misunderstood the word, it is unclear why Hesiod was not equally susceptible to such a misunderstanding. Indeed, at the very least the widespread ancient confusion serves as a word of caution against an over-reliance on etymologies as vehicles for understanding historical usage."

Jeanne d'Arc, Hector, Francis Drake, Enkidu
I did Jeanne already, so I'll just do the others~!
First impression
Hector: haha funny old man, bro you okay you better watch out for achilles lol
Drake: HELLO?????????????????????? HELLO MA'AM?????? HOT???? HOT PIRATE LADY??????????
Enkidu: OH SO THAT'S ENKIDU THEY'RE VERY PRETTY
Impression now
Hector: He's still a funny old man, but I really like him, he's so fucking chill and he's just vibing.
Drake: MY LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love her so fucking much, she's so fun and so hot and I'm always delighted to see her. Queen shit.
Enkidu: I'm legally obligated to stan my FGO husband's soulmate, obviously! But no, really, Enkidu is amazing and I love them, they're such a little shithead sometimes, bless.
Favorite moment
Hector: His shenanigans in Okeanos were great and I love his brief scene passing the torch to Mandricardo, but I have to admit his dialogue where he's trolling Achilles by throwing shit at him and running is the funniest fucking thing they could possibly do.
Drake: Her speech at the end of Okeanos for sure, but also her just chugging rum out of a holy grail is legendary behavior. Also her bullying the fuck out of Shinji in Extra.
Enkidu: LISTEN THE FACT THEY YEETED A PIECE OF GUGALANNA AT ISHTAR'S FACE IS THE BEST SHIT I HAVE EVER HEARD. But also, their battle with Gil in FSF is so incredible, and their telling Gil's story to Hakuno in CCC as well.
Idea for a story
Hektor: Look I need Iliad details in the Fateverse DESPERATELY.
Drake: The theory she's secretly Queen Elizabeth NEEDS EXPLORING SO BADLY OKAY
Enkidu: On the one hand, what more is there to tell, but on the other hand, I'd love to hear more of their adventures with Gil before they died. ENKIDU TELL ME ALL THE HORRIBLY FUNNY BLACKMAIL YOU HAVE ON GIL PLEASE
Unpopular opinion
Hektor: I don't have too many of these XD
Drake: Uhhhhhhh.
Enkidu: What's even unpopular opinion with these guys XD
Favorite relationship
Hektor: Him and Paris and Achilles, idiot Iliad squad go! But also the brief dynamic with Mandri was amazing.
Drake: I'm not gonna lie, her and Teach is delightful.
Enkidu: GIL GIL GIL OBVIOUSLY GIL but listen, Enkidu and their pubbo Master is so sweet too. And Enkidu befriending Gil's Masters - Tine, Hakuno, Fujimaru - is lovely always somehow.
Favorite headcanon
Hektor: Hektor is torn between his conscience telling him to apologize for Patroclus (he kind of understands the Oof of losing a loved one ofc) and his pettiness telling him to not just because Achilles killed him Like That. He also WILL instigate drama in the Greek Servant groupchat just for the lols and sit back with popcorn.
Drake: She and my Fujimaru absolutely fucked at least once. FWB relationship. They're party buddies. There's no romantic strings attached whatsoever but Drake thinks she's sweet and will comfort Fujimaru if she needs it.
Enkidu: They like vibing with the nature spirits in Chaldea, it's nice. I saw a comic about Enkidu using their transformation skill to be bigger than Gil just to bully him, and yes I love that.

Final 4D
Here's a look at my final 4D project based on the feedback I received on the prototype/test version.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Feedbacks:
The card sizes can be bigger There should be a nice box designed for the cards There should be a brief guideline designed for the game
Tumblr media
Reflection:
Since the 4D piece had only one boundary, as long as it included time as a main element, I decided to design a game which would engage the viewers and give them an experience similar to Xenolalia. My main goal in all of these projects is to show the relationship between language and mind and how people are connected through languages. In this game, Xenolalia takes on a playful interpretation, inviting players to guess unfamiliar random words in 17 different languages. Through this linguistic exploration, players engage with the essence of Xenolalia, as the words are picked based on their close connection/similarities in the other languages in the game. For example, does the word Okeanos in Greek sound familiar? It means Ocean! It’s like you know that word (representing language); meanwhile, you’re confused about how it sounds so familiar and how you know it.

Jan. 10, 2024
Happy New Year. And boy, what a new year it is.
I've recently acquired an apprentice, and she is quite a lot like I was when I started. Eager to learn, overly excited, and eager to be friends with every entity that crosses her path. I'll call her Metis, since that was one of her first lives.
So we divined her true name, got her in touch with her guides, and let her spend a night in the Forge. A series of fairly safe bets for a budding practitioner. She asks questions about everything, sometimes so quickly she doesn't hear the answers. There are days when I have to repeat stories, or reasons for what I do, just because she's excited and talkative.
I'm not terribly mad about the arrangement.
We spent the last couple of days exploring the Dream World and meeting a few of the Oneiroi, where she got advice from Phobetor and Zoe about what to do next.
Yesterday was her first real battle. She was excited when an entity appeared in her room, half woman, half spider. She thought it was Arachne. It definitely was not. It was an entity known as a Jorogumo, a predatory entity that lures people in with her voice. With my instruction, my apprentice killed the spider spirit and rescued another from her webbing.
We left the gory battleground for a long soak in a hot tub in Artists' Alley, and then I showed my apprentice her spiritual path and all the connections she had. Many of them were dead weight, or the ones she was connected to weren't putting any effort into maintaining the connection. So we started culling. And the darkness started flowing out.
One of the shadows was more insistent than the others. He was flirtatious and flattering, very handsome, prepared to give gifts and compliments at every turn. It took me nearly a full day to figure out who he was supposed to be. But much of what he gave... was themed. Pearls. Seashells. Dresses made from scales. Okeanos. He insisted on engaging the two of us, and was being persistent in pushing my boundaries. I told him off and managed to set an appointment for the morning, and then attempted to settle in for the night.
I had a discussion with Morpheus about a few dream techniques and taboos, and as my energy waned I found myself slipping into a depressive episode. I remembered a botched dream from last year; of holding my son in my arms as he died. I remembered all the things leading up to that dream. The death of my grandmother, the sale of my father's ancient lands, the brutal curse on the elder oneiroi, the loss of connection to Cure... the emotional lashing I'd gotten from one of my closest advisors...
All culminating in that terrible dream. I had sat on the edge of a building in someone's mindscape and dared to wonder for just a moment if gravity still worked.
Morpheus sat with me, and saw me spiraling, and started calling out to anyone who would come.
"I love you." I threw the words out like a lifeline. Like a flare gun. Please somebody catch hold. Please, somebody pull me out of the dark. And the rope pulled taut. From all around me there came soft, solemn whispers in reply.
"I love you."
"I love you."
"I love you."
And before I knew it, I had fallen into a deep, comfortable sleep.
I processed for most of the night. And then, in the morning, Metis' dream entity waltzed in like he owned the place and began showering us with gifts, affection, and promises of eternity.
It put me off. He wanted to follow us around. Prove himself to her and to me. He wanted to be part of my court. Wanted to give us a tour of his palace. Told Metis it was home, if she wanted it. Gave her a mound of Chthonic money he'd somehow negotiated with Hades. Probably against Hades' better judgment.
Overwhelmed and feeling like he was going to use her up again, Metis started crying. I told her to go back to my chambers and curl up in front of the fire while I had a conversation with Okeanos.
"What have you done?"
"Me? Okeanos, you're love-bombing her. This is a girl who has gotten so used to being used for sex that she knows a pattern of red flags when she sees it!"
He pauses. "Is that why you were wary about accepting gifts?"
"Absolutely. I don't know you. I don't trust you. Giving me things doesn't mean you won't hurt me or her the first chance things go awry."
He looks away.
"Look, I know I'm coming off as a hardass."
"Yes you are."
"But." I held up a finger in his face. "I'm not here to make her decisions for her. I'm here to be her voice of reason. If she decides not to trust you, that will be entirely her choice."
"Somehow I doubt you won't be influencing her."
"After all this time? It doesn't take much! She's been pushed around by two kings, shitty generals, her mother, and several lovers besides you." She reaches to me and says he's still trying to contact her, coax her, coerce her. I cut him off. "And if you don't get the fuck out of her head, I will remove your soul from your body."
"You can't do that."
"Do you really want to find out?" He is quiet, startled. "I destroyed Olympus. I killed Ananke. I have slain much bigger prey than you, and I will do it again."
Okeanos watched me carefully, noticing the glimmer of rage in my eyes. Then he looked at the floor.
"If I can't make you understand the importance of you earning her trust, and not just giving her stuff and coercing her into bed, then I'm not sure you deserve to be in her life."
He looks up at me. "And your court?"
"Forget my court. The only reason you want to be in my court is because your daughter is my apprentice. That doesn't benefit me or what I do. When you find me a compelling reason why I should reconsider, then I will. Until then, you need to think about this a little more carefully and quit acting like a desperate teenage boy."
"... I could curse you both..."
"Then you do that. Use the threat of violence to get what you want. Doesn't that sound like someone we know? Zeus? Hera? Ye gods, are you really so different from any of them?"
"I am different."
"Then prove it, Okeanos. Just because you've been around longer doesn't make you any more or less like the very entities you despise." I took off the necklace and the dress and dropped them at his feet. "Grow up, Okeanos. If I hear from you again, I'll burn you to ashes."
He continued threatening and berating Metis telepathically until she severed her link with him. The exertion of all that power caused her nose to bleed.
I called over a few dreamlings to help calm her down, and we sat in front of the fireplace eating loukomades and vegging out until we got another visitor. This time it was from the opposite end of the spectrum.
Aether. He was eager. Excited. Talking very fast, and yet being very straightforward and, for lack of a better word, cute. Absolutely golden retriever energy. And despite his high energy levels, my headache, and Metis' nosebleed, I was starting to like him. An astral guide through and through. He got both of us and Metis' friendly house spirit to sign a contract, and off he went to "make the world a better place."
We might very well have our work cut out for us.
