so, what I wish happened in Orange is the New Black season 6 is: Cindy decides to recant her testimony and take a perjury charge to save Taystee, having secured a transfer to a far away prison where the guards will not know she incriminated one of them. And she gets the transfer with Tamika's help, who then quits to do literally anything else because it couldnt be more clear that being a CO makes you a monster full stop

finished OITNB and I have many thoughts but the only one I keep thinking about is how messed up it is that Pennsatucky overdosed because she thought she failed her GED exam but ended up passing anyway.

Unpopular OITNB opinions because I’m bored and procrastinating

I had little to no interest in Taystee and found her outright annoying at times. She was okay in the earlier seasons and my idea of her was that she was good character that I didn’t like due to personal preference. However, in the later season, I felt that she could be irritating, irrational and depressing in an unenjoyable way and that she got far too much screen time for what I considered to be a rather dull plot.

I find it hilarious when people try to complain about people on the show being mean or bad people. Like yes, that’s why 99% of them have landed themselves in prison. The funniest examples of this complaint are when people say that Lorna, someone who grew up Italian-American in New York, could sometimes say racist things or when Flaritza, two girls who probably couldn’t even legally drink before they went to prison and, in Maritza’s case at least, didn’t seem to have parents who cared for them, could sometimes be bitchy and immature. These comments are even funnier when whoever says this then goes on to say that they love Frieda, Carol and Barb.

In my personal opinion, Season 2 was the best season quality-wise but Season 4 was better when it came down to drama and entertainment. Season 3 was actually one of my favourites aside from Alex’s whole paranoid arc and I didn’t really mind the panty storyline. Season 1 was obviously good, if a little slow and boring at first. Season 5 shouldn’t have dragged on for so long, if they were only going to cover three days, although I probably would have enjoyed it if it hadn’t felt so absurd and weird compared to previous seasons. Season 7 was depressing trauma porn from start to finish and Season 6 was dreadful n every single way and a terrible conclusion for the riot.

I felt like the family dynamics became way less cohesive it’s the show progressed and people that had once gotten on perfectly well were suddenly at each other’s throats and vice versa. A good example of this was Spanish Harlem which went from a clearly outlined family where Aleida and Gloria acted as parents, Blanca was not a part of the group and the other four ( Maria, Daya, Maritza and Flaca ) pretty much did whatever Aleida said. Contrast this to Season 4/5 where Aleida leaves but Flaritza and Maria don’t seem to even notice, Gloria just let’s Maria have control over Harlem with no complaints whatsoever, Maria and Maritza seem to be at each other’s throats one second and back to there seemingly rather good Season 2/3 friendship the next, Blanca is suddenly an active member of the group and Gloria only cares about Daya. This faulty dynamic is true for all of the other groups as well, and never gets the chance to recover after they are sent to Max.

I didn’t like how some of the seriously traumatic stuff that happened to some of these characters, especially in Season 4, was never addressed by the show again and seemed to forgotten after the episode ended by both the writers and the character themself. You’re telling me that Maritza was creeped on, forced to eat a live animal, held at gunpoint and repeatedly harassed but she bounced back after throwing up like twice and hugging Flaca. In reality, she would probably take a long while to recover or feel truly comfortable in her own skin again, maybe even experiencing some PTSD, which could have been an interesting storyline to take her character down through Season 5, instead of relegating her back to comedy bits and pop culture references.

That’s all my opinions for now, although I will probably make a Part 2 for this post. Hope you agreed with at least one of my takes and that you don’t want to kill me for some of the things I said.

I finished season 14 of Drag Race and randomly started season 6, and the vibe is instantly different; for one thing everyone is much less comfortable with androgyny in drag. The opening line is "may the best woman win" instead of "may the best drag queen win". I can't parse the significance of that change yet but it Means Something. This season started airing in 2014, which is definitely after the start of the seismic change in trans women's visibility in American public life. Laverne Cox was on OITNB, and 2014 was the year she was on the cover of Time. Lana Wachowski and Laura Jane Grace had already come out. It was still a year before Caitlyn Jenner came out. I think this was the last season where they still called the video messages Ru Paul left for contestants "You've Got She-mail".

So I started watching the 6th season of OITNB and it does indeed look like an improvement over the mess that was season 5. Phew.

Loving the drama with the OGs having to snitch on each other so that they won't get more time.

Red forgiving Nicky for fucking her over? [cries in a corner]

Have yet to feel bad about Frieda for doing the same though, because you don't see her hurting or feeling remorse. Unlike Nicky, she barely hesitates. Checks out. She's a survivor.

I still love Maria (pretty sure it's because the actress is really good no matter how bad the script gets), but can't blame Gloria for getting revenge. Can't blame Blanca for turning on her either.

What pained me a lot was seeing Cindy implicate Taystee. We had already known that Cindy is selfish and a coward, but this season and her new flashbacks really drive that point home. A really nice touch that she was the one to hug Tasha during her breakdown in front of Piscatella (season 5 finale).

Why is Alex not questioned about the events in the pool though? Does that happen in the background?

Moreover, it's a delight to see the OGs (Flaca, Cindy, Lorna, Daya etc.) interacting now that their cliques are not a thing anymore.

Moving on.

A thing that feels forced to me: Red losing all sense of control when she sees Frieda and thus missing the opportunity to meet her grandchildren for the first time. Like, come on. That only happens to trigger the "SHU is cruel and gives you dementia" ending, because it makes no fucking sense.

Red's s6 characterization is so inconsistent with her s1-s4 counterpart's, who played the long game and did not make such impulsive/hasty decisions.

Not counting s5 Red, because almost every character (except for Tasha, Gloria, Soso and Sophia) was an exaggerated caricature of themselves during season 5.

Another lady whose characterization is off? Lorna's, who thinks that joining a gang is good for her baby. Antidepressants (paroxetine) do have side effects, but do not give you a personality transplant.

"Don't look at me. I'm crazy, but not Florida crazy." Oh, baby.

That's the only reason they kept her there in season 6, because she adds literally nothing to the story.

Now, as for the new characters,

Love the guard who used to be Tasha's friend and Lorna's bunkmate. Hope they both get their own background episodes, because they're the most interesting ones.

Most of the other guards seem pretty bland in comparison--cheap repetitions of previous COs, e.g., Hellman is Humps no. 2.

A good thing that Artesian is back though. She's no Fisher or Wanda, but compared to the rest of the COs... Can't wait to see her PTSD episode.

Why is the show trying to make Dixon, the guard who compared Poussey's murder to breaking a chair and murdered several people and also a girl after he had sex with her because her loved ones "would kill her anyway," goofy and lovable all of a sudden? Isn't the woobification of Tiffany's rapist enough?

I like the "crazy baby killer" (Piper's bunkmate) and want to know what turned her into Medea.

All the new inmate villains (Carol, Barb, Badison & Annalisa) are so cartoonish and over the top. Waiting to see if they'll get any depth, but I'm sensing that the baddies on this show peaked at Vee. Even Piscatella seems more nuanced in comparison.

I'm struggling to see what people saw in Carol... that she's pretty? The older actress is ok, but the younger one's acting is, um, how to put this delicately? Not ideal.

Badison has some funny lines, but she's more of a tryhard high school bully than a compelling antagonist. Waiting to see if that's intentional or not.

Annalisa is so annoying and unnecessary. Could definitely do without her. Glad to know that Lorna attacks her before being moved to Florida honestly.

"Daddy" is so physically unimposing that I find it hard to buy he* is the protector of the block. Androgyny on its own isn't enough. Waiting to see if he'll get some development, because for the time being, it looks like he's Stella no. 2: there to look hot despite the subpar acting and personality of a spoon. But I suppose he's there to trigger Daya's kingpin arc and drug addiction. My point? Missing Boo hours.

*Not sure what pronouns I should use (Annalisa says "he"), because it's not clear to me whether "Daddy" is a trans guy, nonbinary or a cis masc lesbian.

Moving on again.

I found the opening with Suzanne's hallucinations charming yet a bit out of place.

The thing is, S1-S3 were more of a comedy than a drama. S4 was the turning point and the show became more of a drama than a comedy.

Season 5 should have committed to drama, but unfortunately tried to balance the two and stumbled.

Season 6 is another attempt at balancing the two.

Nicky remains funny, but the lines lack the spark and wit of her pre-s5 ones. Maybe that can be explained due to the "We're all in Max now" development, maybe it's due to the new writers interpreting her differently.

Something is missing there for sure and is definitely not the "I'm a player, but suddenly stopped chasing women" bit.

Piper keeps asking for Alex ("a broken record" like Daya says) and then spends her time joking about their wedding. What else is new with these two?

What else indeed. Hm.

Where the hell is Sophia? I know she gets out in the finale, but in the meantime, where is she? We barely saw her in season 5 after 2 interactions with Gloria.

Oh, last but not least, missing Soso and Chang hours.

Not missing Leanne and Angie at all hours. Too bad that they replaced them with equally irritating characters.

And maybe it’s their oitnb cast wrap dinner so when they get there they are both like ignoring eachother cus they’re pissed off and then one of the cast members is drunk realises and interigates them about it. And then finally they make up and Natasha admits it was stupid to start an argument over a shoe and then the next day they are doing press and Nat talks about that argument while the reader is in the room. And the interviewer finds it really funny. so instead of Nat and the reader crying about it they laugh about it later on In bee 🤣🤣🤣

“YOU FUCKING PRICK!” was the first thing Natasha had said to me as I walked into her apartment to pick her up to go to the OITNB season 3 wrap cast-only dinner. We had been dating for about 6 months and I was baffled. Natasha had never yelled at me before and I was concerned, “Baby? What is wrong?” She was stomping around her apartment angrily, “Why the FUCK did you take my goddamn shoe?!” “What? Baby-” “Don’t call me that! You don’t deserve it, shoe thief! Fuck you!” She cut me off. “Natasha, we don’t wear the same shoe size. Besides, I just got here. What shoe are you looking for?” I replied, a bit concerned for my girlfriend. “My fucking boots! The black ones!” She said, continuing on her rampage. “The ones you wore when we went out for drinks with Laura and her husband, Ben? When we all got wine drunk? Maybe you just put them somewhere else-” “No! You fucking took them!” She said, cutting me off again. “Fuck you, Nat. I'm waiting in the fucking car. I hope you find your goddamn shoe in time,” I said. I was angry that she kept cutting me off, so I walked back down to my car, slamming the door to both her apartment and my car. 

10 minutes later, she got in my car. We drove in silence as we were both still pissed. We got to the restaurant and walked in, refusing to hold hands or any other physical contact. All of our fellow cast members were shocked, we were always touching in some way because my love language is physical touch. However, none of them said anything. As the dinner went on, we ignored each other and refused to talk to each other. Eventually, we all got drunk and Taylor was drunkenly rambling when she turned to us, “So, why are y’all pissy?” I looked up, “What?” She elaborated, “You guys are angry. You two won’t even look in each other's direction. And you guys typically steal each other's food or take sips of each other's drinks and yet, y’all have done none of that.” We were both speechless. “Um…” I started. “They took my shoes.” Nat finished. “No, I didn’t! Why would I even do that?!” I said. “B-because…w-well…” Nat said. “Exactly! I didn’t do shit! And you found them, did you not?” I said. “...fine, I lost my shoes, you didn’t do anything.” She admitted

A few weeks later, me and Natasha were at an interview. It was just her but she wanted me to come with her for moral support. I was sitting behind the camera and listening as I went over a script I had. They started to talk about mood swings and things that piss her off as she was clean from her addictions. This caught my attention. I stopped what I was doing and listened to what she said…and I nearly fell over laughing. I had to hold my hand over my mouth and leave the room as she began talking about her anger with inanimate objects and how she blamed it on other people. I stayed outside of the room until the interview was over because I was wheezing from laughing so hard. When she walked out, she saw the tears in my eyes and the fact I was still laughing. “Baby, are you ok?!” She asked, laughing as well. “I had no idea that that was just something you did!” I said, crouching on the floor with laughter. “I’m sorry, I should have let you know,” She said, pulling me off of the floor. I hugged her and pressed a short kiss to her lips, “It’s fine, just let me know next time you feel anger towards inanimate objects.”
