an epiphany

and it just now hits me WHY og eclipse was so fixated on besting moon.

BECAUSE HE WAS MOON. He heard Moon's voice when he came into being and was confused because "that's my voice"

He was so scared and upset and ALONE with all the feelings Moon had about Sun from their time as one being, and then he realizes that HE DID THIS TO HIMSELF. Except no. THAT person out there, with his voice and his look did this to him.

No wonder Eclipse can't take responsibility for his actions. HE DOESN'T SEE HIMSELF AS A WHOLE. He feels like a splinter, because part of him still sees himself as MOON. And he feels like Moon stole his life. And he feels like Sun's holding him back just like always.

and he feels like they both deserve to get hurt because HE'S HURTING SO BADLY from them both letting him down.

He wanted to win because that meant he didn't deserve to be abandoned in Sun's head. He wanted to win because that meant he wasn't worthless enough to be forgotten about. He wanted to win because the world told him he wasn't supposed to exist so he was going to make the WORLD not exist (originally).

WOW it was a trip to have all that click into place just now.

Do you guys ever think how Zuko is the only person who proves Katara that he won't leave her again?

Katara has abandonment issues. That's why she was so angry at Hakoda when they saw each other again, that's why she became so anxious when they had to separate, that's why she lashes out at Zuko himself, bringing up her mother's death. It's implied throughout the series that she has been abandoned physically and emotionally by the people she held dear.

Of course, Hakoda acknowledges and apologizes, but we don't see him making the effort to show Katara that he won't make her feel that way again—(which is probably due to the pacing of the story, although it's still a poor writing choice, but I digress).

But we see Zuko making an effort.

After betraying her, he is determined to make it up to her by any means. Even when she is openly hostile to him, he remains respectful and protective of her. He is constantly showing kind and heroic gestures. He goes out of his way for it in TSR to help her confront her feelings of grief and resentment, and saves her life yet again during Sozin's Comet. He expresses he has her best interest at heart through words and actions.

Thinking about all of that makes their relationship and personal character journey even more beautiful.

A small detail I like that seemed to get overlooked by a lot of people: Moon wasn't trying to keep the lights off to hurt Sun or to hurt children, he wanted to keep them off, because in his corrupted state, light was causing him PAIN! Rebooting them into Eclipse didn't JUST help Sun, we helped Moon, too! All THREE are good bots, your honor and I love them and GHDASJGhj

Yes i agree! I think in the main game it was definitely virus related (since the flashlight, the laser gun and fazcam does nothing against him) but in the DLC its gotten to the point where he has become hyper sensitive to light (either due to the virus still scrambling his brains or the damage both have sustained since or a combination of both) and so it causes him a lot of pain when exposed to it.

If we look at his two jumpscares also, the one where neither generators have been turned on he grabs Cassie and flies up in the air with her but doesn't outright display any overly violent behaviour so one could almost assume he does try to take her to naptime and maybe drops her in the process (accidently or intentionally is anyones guess)

But when one generator is turned on he is now in greater pain and aggravated so when Cassie approaches him he is far more unstable and lashes out in anger and frustration, especially when Sun also tries forcing him back in.

I do love to think Moon is not intentionally malicious/evil but with his coding scrambled by the virus and neglect and Sun actively fighting him parred with hyper sensitivity to light and both quite possibly being in a near constant state of pain i don't blame him for being so aggressive.

Rebooting him would have reset the messed up coding and helped bring Moon back to a more stable state and while i doubt it would completely fix them mentally (trauma goes brr) at least he and Sun have been brought some peace at last and made whole again. ;;v;;

Absolutely love that Sun gets over his trauma by babying the younger brother. In a sense its what they both need. To you and the anon who wanted something nice for Sun and Bean Eclipse interacting. Eclipse is far more comfortable being carried or held by Sun vs Moon actually. (altho like... in terms of who he'd rather be held by. Its KC, then Earth then Sun (Lunar is a contender only Sometimes). Never Monty. Moon is never perferred on this list but always over Monty.) Also just kinda... BY HEIGHT PREFERENCE LOL

There was another ask/variation with Siren Y/N and Eclipse being the photographer searching for sirens for Fazco but an Orca Y/N siren would be a touch different. Side note: I love that even with Y/N as the dangerous, deadly creature, they're still being tormented by grabby and possessive Eclipse because he's Just Like That

but also Siren Y/N swimming along the surface before Eclipse snatches them up like a prized fish but it's okay because they're lonely and they assume this is how animatronics show affection by being so grabby and touchy. Y/N does their best to not get water over him and he always makes sure to give Y/N all the cuddles they want because boy, who knew a siren could be so needy (he says as if he himself isn't needy.)
