Oddworld: Conar’s Ambition, Chapter 13, Draft 1, Part 27
There was chatter, and others running to find rope or reach out with clubs of their own, but their friend was slipping away too quickly.
Conar was aghast. He wasn’t hoping to kill the guy; just scare him and the others off for a second. Without thinking, he dove back into the water.
The Mudokon was spending more time below the surface now. Every breach was a desperate gasp and several splashes straight downwards. Conar swam ahead, trying to find a good way to grab him. Flailing hands batted against him as he tried to wrap his arms around the torso. The weight threatened to keep both of them down; Conar couldn’t hope to lift him up back to shore.
Perhaps he didn’t have to; flashes of green swam into his vision. Some Ratz had dove in as well, surrounding him. What were they telling him now?
There! An opening in their glares; a thick tree root! Conar desperately paddled his tail, trying to push his assailant and himself to this anchor. His already-aching muscles were threatening to tear him to pieces, and his lungs screamed for air as the Mudokon limply weighed him down.
C’mon, just a little more…
With ever inch that brought them closer to salvation, their vision was blurring. Each paddle forward became more of a lurch, and things were feeling grim as his vision started to darken.

Just a little something for Within Reach!!
Tumblr media
Gosh, this chapter was just so vivid, and I loved it so much! @mable-stitchpunk does amazing things, as always.
Even if you’re iffy/don’t know about Oddworld, GO READ THIS FIC!! It deserves far more love than it receives and you don’t have to play the games to understand much, beyond knowing that the Mudokons (Abe’s species) are slaves in meat producing factories to the Glukkons (such as Molluck, his boss.) Abe spent the first game escaping said meat factory with as many Muds as possible… and now he seeks answers.

In The Pale Moonlight Headcanons #3
I think the next part of the main fic will be another round of introductions. It was kind of fun to do. So, @harleyification (and everyone else), let me know if there is any particular character you want to see.
Enjoy and be gentle
---
When in the mood for ✨️Mischief✨️, Marc will sit in the Mission in the full Moon Knight suit, put on either one of Universal's or Hammer Horror's mummy movies, and act like they are the most hilarious things to ever exist. The reactions he gets are the real comedy.
After a certain picture starts circulating online, some refer to Mr Knight as "Black Bat's teddy bear".
The boys all hate Doctor Fate.
Shazam knows that the Moon Knights share a body, just not the reason.
Zatanna often calls the boys "Batman's kittens".
There is a gaming PC hidden in the Midnight Mission: on at are both Mega Man X Legacy Collections (Jake), Tomb Raider I-III Remastered (Marc), every entry in the Oddworld series (Steven), and The Mummy Demastered (all three of them).
Marc bakes so often that the Mission formed a small bakery near the entrance for him.
The Mission also has a garage in the basement. The limo gets in and out with a ramp in the entryway, resulting in it driving in and out through the front doors.
For various reasons, the boys each have a "casual vigilante" outfit: Marc's is a pullover white hoodie with white jeans, Steven's is a zipup hoodie over a dress shirt and white blazer over top with Marc's white jeans, and Jake's is a black t-shirt and jeans with Steven's hoodie. All three have a white domino mask and white trainers.
If the events of Blackest Night occur in this universe, the boys would each attract a different ring: Green (Jake), Blue (Steven), and Star Sapphire (Marc).

🦈🌻🍬🚦
🦈 Which character is the toughest to write?
Lol, the last time I answered a question like this, I was accused of being racist for saying that Sam Wilson is funny and emotionally stable XD
But as I think about it now, I suppose the real answer is that the toughest characters for me to write are snarky geniuses. The main ones I've had occasion to write would be Sherlock Holmes and Tony Stark. For one thing, they're much more intelligent than I am, so that's hard to write, and also their areas of expertise are very far removed from my own. Then, at least in Tony's case, I always feel the need to reference pop culture in some way - but not the nerdy stuff I would actually know about. Tony's always dropping references to movies I haven't seen or bands I don't listen to or something, so it takes a lot of effort to figure out what to make him say, and both he and Sherlock have this mocking way of talking a lot of the time that doesn't come naturally to me. I don't feel like I've ever really gotten either of their voices quite right.
🌻 How often do you read your own fics?
Less than I used to, I think. These days, I usually only read my own stuff when someone comments, "I love how you did XYZ!" And then I'm like, "Wait, I did XYZ?" and of course I have to go read it to see what they're talking about :P By the way, I'm not counting reading back over earlier portions of whatever WIP I'm in the middle of. That's just part of the writing process.
🍬 Do you write for multiple fandoms? If yes, what is your favorite fic of yours for each fandom?
From my FFNet profile:
Tumblr media
So yes, I would say so XD
I only have one fic apiece for Wolf's Rain, Castle in the Sky, Death Note, Prince of Persia, Oddworld, Lovely Complex, Tsubasa Chronicle, Professor Layton, Supernatural, Star Wars, WordGirl, Daredevil, Avengers, and Dororo, so that goes without saying. Here are the others:
Final Fantasy X - Someday the Dream Will End My novelization of the game. Please note the date this was published and realize I was sixteen the last time I touched this thing ^^' It is very far beneath my current standards, but it's what got me into writing fanfiction in the first place, and it taught me so much about how stories work, how to write novel-length works, and also a lot of my preferences when it comes to writing and posting fanfic, specifically.
Harry Potter - Change I don't actually like any of my HP fics very much, if I'm being honest. I wrote most of them ages and ages ago, so the writing isn't very good, and I don't think I handled the few good ideas I had with the delicacy they required. So I picked this one because I wrote it much later than all the rest, so it's at least fairly competent. It's just a little exploration of a headcanon about how the broken Hogwarts House system could be tweaked to not be quite so divisive and counter-productive.
Full Metal Alchemist - The Ultimate Sacrifice Oh my gosh, I've written so many FMA fics over the years, it's almost impossible to pick x.x Some of them are really old and not very well written, some have really good ideas but my skill at the time is holding them back, some are quite good but...are they my favorite? In the end, I decided to go with this oneshot because it was burning a hole in my brain for years before I finally got it written down, and I think it still holds up okay seven years later. Basically, it's an AU that explores what it would be like if Ed uses his love for Al as the toll to get Al's body back. Super angsty, lots of tears, it's great! :D
ICO - Piaculum My novelization of the game, written after the official one was published in Japan but a good three years before it was ever translated to English, so that's how I justified writing it ^^' I didn't really know what I was doing. Parts of it are still kind of good, and I like how I dealt with certain themes and drew in connections to Shadow of the Colossus. But yeah, if you want a book that contains the story of my favorite game of all time, just go read Castle in the Mist by Miyuki Miyabe instead.
Legend of Zelda - One Hundred Beats A 100 Themes fic centered around the friendship of Link and Navi. I wrote this whole thing during one of the busiest and most exhausting periods of my life, and I'll always be impressed by past-me for doing that. I also really like some of the stories I came up with for it, especially all the AUs. Most importantly of all, brainstorming one chapter led me to the headcanon that healed the pain of what they did (or didn't do) with Navi in the canon, and for that I will always love this fic.
Sherlock - Memento Mori One of my kidlock oneshots, an AU where John and Sherlock met as kids. This one deals with the death of Sherlock's dog Redbeard (needless to say, it's quite different from the canon). Personally, I think this is the best one of my kidlock fics.
Captain America - Make Me Whole Obviously! This is the fic that took over my life and changed me irrevocably. For the first time ever, after so many years of writing just to get the ideas out and because no one else was doing it, this time I had a story where, even if ten other people came out of the woodwork with the exact same concept who were much better writers than me, I wanted to be the one to write it. I really got the sense that God wanted me to write this story, and I've seen the fruit of that over and over again. And, of course, without this fic I wouldn't be writing the mammoth WIP I'm working on now.
🚦What sort of endings do you prefer to write: ambiguous, bad, happily ever after, etc.?
You know, I've always said that bittersweet endings are my favorite. Endings like LotR, where the good guys win and evil is defeated, but not without great cost. But as I think through some of the endings I've been most satisfied about in my own writing, I think I need to fine-tune that. I think my favorite kind of ending is a particular brand of bittersweet, where it's not exactly "the Shire has been saved, but not for me." It's more like "we've been hurt, and we're not okay yet, but I think we will be." To me, that's the most realistic kind of ending you can get, because that's the way our lives are. (Not that I don't appreciate a good, completely happy ending where everybody lives happily ever after!)

24 for the ask game? (a-table-of-fics)
24: Do you have any unpopular opinions?
Apparently it is unpopular to like every Oddworld game? Like, I adore both Exoddus and Soulstorm - they're literally first and second place for me. But you'd never guess, sometimes, seeing some chat, that you don't have to pick one. Even more so for Oddysee and NnT since those are narratively almost identical - I like them both for different things! They're both lovely games, just in different ways! And also while Munch may be at the bottom of my list, I still enjoy playing and watching playthroughs of it. It occupies kind of a Mortal Kombat Mythologies-style niche for me - I recognize that it has severe flaws as a game for a multitude of reasons - rushed development in an unfamiliar engine, a platform switch partway through development, etc... - but it introduces characters and concepts I adore. I'm so glad we got Fuzzles here first instead of in Stranger's Wrath. I'm so grateful we got Gabbits and Vykkers and a look at native Mudokon weaponry, and the spirituality-linked feather growth lore. I love the dynamic music and the introduction of varied gamespeak lines/responses, and I loved the character switching! But to some people wanting elements from it to return, to say nothing of Munch himself, is stupid and worthy of ridicule?
Like, dislike what you dislike, that's fine. Why do you have to be a jerk to people who like it though? Why does it have to be a weird generational thing? Can we talk about it like people who both like the overarching thing that is Oddworld, without the condescension? I know it can happen, I had a civil conversation about Soulstorm vs. Exoddus myself, and we came to the conclusion we were simply looking for totally different things in our games, and that was okay, totally fair!
I want it all to be like that. I love all of Oddworld. Why is that wrong?

5.) Share a snippet that you’re proud of from an upcoming fic/chapter.
[“Excuse me?” The Lodger asked, unsure if their thin line of sanity could handle an answer, “This isn’t how the game is supposed to go! We play at night, remember?! Now give me my nails back or else!”
The host brought their hammer down in a swift motion in an attempt to emphasize their frail threat, only to catch out of the corner of their eye a flicker of a candlestick’s flame. A panicked yelp escaped their throat as they threw the candleholder to the floor and rubbed their eyes, although that only seemed to irritate them even more though. They looked at the floor once more, only to see a hammer lying close to the mirror. How fortunate they didn’t accidentally break it! Trembling, they felt the skin of their neck burning under their scarf again, and instead of chilling the flesh they grabbed the tail ends of the scarf and ran their palms through it rhythmically as they stared into the mirror.
“Look out the window, not at the mirror.”
It was the Lodger’s voice, but they were too focused on their bloodshot eyes to notice if their mouth moved at all. One of the notes told them that, but why should they listen? Windows can’t show you your true self! It was all but impossible to see once your eyes have turned to darkest red!
The Buka’s piercing growl echoed throughout the house once more, and the Lodger hurried off to find the missing box of nails.]
This will be in the next chapter of House With No Door, my Knock-Knock fic (that’s on temporary hiatus due to both my writer’s block w/ this particular story and my inability to play the game for research after my Wineskin crapped out on me...).
6.) What are some topics you will never write about?
I’m never gonna write porn, that’s for sure! I’m sex-repulsed, so there’s literally no reason for me to write about something I feel no passion for.
9: Are there any fics you’d love to see but don’t want to write yourself? What are they?
Admittedly there’s a lot of fanfics I could write for certain fandoms, but simply don’t have the energy to outline and plan out myself.
Like a lot of fanfiction for Oddworld games in general. I would love to see more stories speculating on the plot lines of unreleased games like Munch’s Exoddus or The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot (especially the latter, that story looked like it was gonna be intense). Also fanfics that focus on ocs for the Intern and Vykker species, as I always found their dynamic to be immensely disturbing yet also rife with great untapped social commentary. There’s literally 26 Oddworld fics on ao3 as I type this and I haven’t found any older Oddworld fanfic sites yet, so I’m pretty starved for content in that fandom :(
...Hell, I’ll say it. On an entirely different note, I would LOVE to see someone write a Pathologic fic about Artemy and Daniil both being sex-repulsed and confiding/bonding over their shared deviancy. Although that one’s such a specific desire of mine that I may have to be the one to write that at some point in the future, even if it’s just a super short story.

For some reason, this fic is the easiest of all my current ongoing works to write, and I think that fact is evident by how frequently I update. I wish I could update everything else as fast. I am getting better recently though, so hopefully my improved health will also reflect in my productivity? I'm thinking of scrapping my shitty comic for this fic and revamping it into a proper fam-comic with like the full effort, since obviously the whole "let's draw the comic with low-effort art so you can post more often with less effort!" Obviously ain't working

Damn, writing for pvz has been a little bit harder than I thought it would be. But I’m still working on it cuz all fics I’ve done so far have only been cookie run.
(Oddworld Abe fic is also in progress too!)

Oddworld: Conar’s Ambition, Chapter 13, Draft 1, Part 25
He just hoped he could hold his breath long enough for the chatter above to die down. But then, what would he do? As far as he knew, the Mudokons weren’t under the same kinds of rigorous patrol demands that Sligs had.
The water was clearing around him, and he heard a splash above. Something poked at his back. It didn’t feel much like skin; it was too smooth and glass-like. He risked a look, only to find the blurry visage of one of the guard Muds glaring at him, poking with his club. The pokes quickly turned to sharp jabs as the Mudokon’s face darkened.
Conar could have swum away. He could have regrouped, found the Slogs, or tried to find some nearby shelter to wait for Slim.
But he had had enough of that; he was a Slig of action. He reached up, scratching against the club before his claws finally found purchase. He tried to pull the weapon down, but that Mudokon was strong. Conar found himself struggling to keep his grip on both the club and the muddy stones that made the river’s wall. He could feel himself turn… whatever color Sligs were supposed to turn when running out of air.
He let himself get pulled up. He soared through the surface and into the air, his arm screaming as it was being pulled by centrifugal force, claw well-embedded into the anchor that was the club. He fell limply with a grunt of pain onto the ground, seeing upside-down spectators with their feet rooted on the ceiling.
Even if he had his legs or his Slog, he would be too exhausted to strike. What he wouldn’t have done for a nice, cool patch of concrete, one less foul-smelling than the rest, away from security Suppressors and his co-workers… alas, there was no such thing. Here, there was only cold stone barely covered with mud. He groaned.

"Who Framed Sonic The Incredible Hedgehog featuring SCP from the SCP Foundation series". This is the kind of fanfic crossover that crawled out of the 2010s. All it's missing is a time stopping vampire and either MLP or Transformers. Disappointed that FNaF has no good crossover fics tho
It's a masterclass in clusterflunk. XDD
The thing about crossover fics are that they're extremely hard to do. Right off the bat you need two series that not only have close enough continuity that they can adapt, but also a similar tone that it'll fit.
I haven't read any Fnaf crossovers, but I did used to see them a while back. Usually, oddly, it seemed like Fnaf was crossed over a lot with Undertale. Now, while these two seemingly appear like they would be easy to cross over... they're actually not.
Sure, there's the concept of souls and the lone child befriending monsters, but actually getting a skeleton crew in with animatronics and having the concept of magic not immediately body the plot is a hard workaround. Doable! Yes, especially depending on the story you want to write, but limiting.
Then there's crossing it over with something like Bendy, which would also seem easy until you consider the massive time gap in between both series. Not to mention figuring out storylines to connect these two. X character goes into X seems like a quick and easy deal, but it's really not, because you still have to balance it out.
Now, I'm not saying this isn't possible. I'm just saying it's a lot more work than writing a non-crossover fic, and it's easy to have that extra management take the fun out of it.
...Unless it's a Dayshift at Freddy's/Dialtown crossover. That's an instant win.
...Or a Fnaf/Willy's Wonderland crossover, because Nick Cage would make a 10/10 Michael Afton. XD

i’m experimenting and trying to revert to a more “on-model” style of drawing mudokons!! (i used abe as a ref)
my art style has been all over the place lately lmao hngh but i’ve been wanting to do some sort of horror/oddworld fic thingy for a while, and i think a fun way to do that is from a direct perspective of the protagonist :^D

I know the fanfic writing community for Oddworld is kinda small. But I’m genuinely a little surprised that, out of all the fanfic tropes out there, nobody to my knowledge has written a body swap fic for Oddworld.
Literally the main gimmick of the protagonist Abe is that he can temporarily posses enemies like Sligs and Glukkons, so I feel like you could incorporate the body swap trope in a pretty semi-natural way here.
Maybe one time when Abe possesses a Slig or Glukkon, something goes wrong and he actually gets stuck in that body. So until Abe can find a way to get back to his original body, he has to try and act like a mean Glukkon boss or a tough Slig security guard so no one gets suspicious. (And given Abe’s more kindhearted and sensitive nature, you can imagine this would prove difficult for him).
Bonus points if theres a side plot where the soul of the Glukkon or Slig Abe possessed gets swapped into his body, and Abe’s brothers have to deal with a mean Glukkon boss or tough mean Slig in the body of Abe.

36 and 39?
36. How do you come up with fic titles? What's the one you're most proud of?
Oh my god, I am so bad at coming up with titles (and names in general). I just stress it out for days before I throw my hands up and just pick one that seems like it would be related to what I'm writing about.
39. Wildest AU scenario you have written?
Wow, too many to count. I have a whole list here. I think the oddest one would be where Amali and Tekehu get isekai'd into the Oddworld universe and have to destroy capitalism there before the glukkons bring that shit over to the Deadfire Archipelago.
