All Saints Day
I grew up in a devout Catholic family and attended Catholic schools from Kindergarten through college. As a result, I was deeply immersed in our parish church and actively volunteered for various ministries in our community and at school. However, during my college years, I received a diagnosis of Lupus, Henoch Schonlein purpura, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. After a prolonged period of treatment, my doctor recommended that I begin a Novena to St. Jude, the Patron Saint of Hopeless Cases. My health condition felt quite challenging, and I was in desperate need of divine intervention. This marked the beginning of my devotion to St. Jude.
As I've grown older, I've continued to seek the intercession of several other saints, including St. Clare, Padre Pio, St. Therese, and many more. On this All Saints Day, I want to take a moment to remember and express my deep gratitude for all their intercessions.
Have a blessed All Saints Day!

Padre Pio’s Sacred Heart Novena Prayer
O my Jesus, You have said: “Truly I say to you, ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you.” Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of (here name your request). Our Father … Hail Mary … Glory Be … Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.
O my Jesus, You have said: “Truly I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father in My name, He will give it to you.” Behold, in Your name, I ask the Father for the grace of (here name your request). Our Father … Hail Mary … Glory Be … Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.
O my Jesus, You have said: “Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away but My words will not pass away.” Encouraged by Your infallible words I now ask for the grace of (here name your request). Our Father … Hail Mary … Glory Be … Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of You, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Your tender Mother and ours.
Say the Hail, Holy Queen and add: “St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.”

I would be very remiss if I didn’t ask you, when you have space on your tumblr account to republish the incredible prayers I relied on to seek comfort during this period. I would like everyone to read these and I am sure both will become so special to you at some point in your lives.
St Padre Pio - The Most Powerful Healing Prayer. - I can’t tell you just how lovely and appropriate these words are.
3 Day Miracle Prayer to the Holy Spirit. This one was originally posted by angels-roses to Skips site. It appeared at the most appropriate time for me and I embraced it wholeheartedly.

15 Ways Every Catholic Can Love Mary (More)
BY PATTI MAGUIRE ARMSTRONG
“I love you mom.”
“I love you, Son.”
Surely those words were spoken between Jesus and Mary. Loving our Blessed Mother must be pleasing to Jesus, and yet, how do you love someone you never see? Let me count the ways: fifteen for starters.
1. Talk with her.
Jesus talked with his mother daily during his childhood. Let’s get in on that conversation. Beyond praying, talk with our Mother in Heaven throughout the day.
2. Sing of Mary
Lift your voice to the Blessed Mother. Here is Brother Alphonsus Mary singing of his love of Mary.
3. Apologize
Imagine Mary’s heartache when she met her Son on the way to Calvary. Tell her you are sorry for ever having hurt her Jesus and ask her to help keep you from sin.
4. Keep her picture around
Images help us feel closer to our loved ones. I have statues and pictures of Jesus and Mary in key places such as where I sit and have tea or in my field of vision when I wake up in the morning.
5. Consecrate yourself
Don’t go it alone. Total Consecration Through the Mysteries of the Rosary is one way to entrust your life to Jesus through Mary, trusting that she is the surest path to Jesus.
6. Introduce her to your children
Let your children know that they have a dear mother in heaven who loves them. Teach them the Hail Mary, put a picture or statue in their room. Read books about Mary to them. Our Lady’s Picture Book is full of beautiful images and an explanation of some of the Blessed Mother’s titles so that you will find yourself falling more in love with her alongside your children.
7. Give her your intentions
Trust her with your life. Jesus did.
8. Get to know some of Mary’s names
Each of Mary’s names has a story and devotion behind it. To know her is to love her more and more. Go here to learn about 26 of her names.
9. Wear a Miraculous Medal
The image of Our Lady standing on a globe with dazzling rays of light representing graces, streaming down upon us from her outstretched hands was given to St. Catherin Laboure in a vision on November 27, 1830. To receive those graces, wear the medal and pray daily: “Oh Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”
10. Let Mary relieve your stress
De-stress with an expert. Consider some of the stress Our Blessed Mother lived with: pregnant with Our Savior while Joseph had no clue, no place to give birth, losing Jesus in the temple, and then watching people conspire against her Son and eventually crucify him. Keep in mind that Jesus’ first miracle was performed because his mother was concerned about someone’s stress—running out of wine at a wedding.
11. Take up your weapon
the Rosary. St. Padre Pio called it “the weapon.” At Fatima and Lourdes, the Blessed Mother told us to pray it daily. The rosary is a powerful bouquet of prayers centered on the Gospels, arranged with Hail Mary’s and Our Father’s.
12. Pray Mother Teresa’s 911 novena
Whenever Mother Teresa faced an emergency, she prayed an “Emergency Novena” of nine Memorares in petition, then a tenth in thanksgiving.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help or sought thy intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petition, but in thy mercy, hear and answer me.
13. Make a distress call
St. Teresa of Calcutta also had a distress call to Mary that she said never failed her: “’Mary, Mother of Jesus, please be a mother to me now.”
14. Grieve with her
Our Lady of Sorrows. The Blessed Mother promised seven graces for those who pray seven Hail Mary’s while meditating on her seven sorrows.
15. Make the five first Saturdays
Our Lady told Sr. Lucia, one of the visionaries from Fatima: “See, my daughter, my heart encircled by thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. Do you, at least, strive to console me. Tell them that I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, in order to make reparation to me on the First Saturday of five successive months, go to Confession, receive Holy Communion, say five decades of the Rosary, and keep me company for a quarter of an hour, meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary.”
After a life spent nurturing a love for Mary, I can think of no one better to come for us with graces at the hour of our death and take us to Jesus.

Padre Pio Novena & Chaplet
Next week, on September 23rd, the Church will celebrate the feast day of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, widely known as “Padre Pio.” Padre Pio was an Italian Capuchin friar and priest who lived in the 20th century. He is revered for his deep piety, mystical experiences, and the stigmata that marked his life. The novena leading up to Padre Pio’s feast day will commence this Thursday, September 14th.…

Cecilia here, hope you get some sleep since you said you're sleepy! Also glad that the Surrender Novena went well, and that your time at the shop went well. I went to my first Byzantine Catholic Mass the other evening, which also had Vespers attached. It was wonderful! It reminded me of the Orthodox Church I used to frequent before returning to the Catholic Church. I can't go very often to the specific Church as it's about 35-40 minutes away from home, but here and there I do plan to go more often. I'm a TLM woman myself but I find that there's beauty in all forms of the Mass. I also met a sister there, she's a Maronite Sister, which reminded me of you since you did mention going to the Maronite Church, she was rather old but funny and sweet. She said that God was the Best Husband in her opinion, and you can say it with 100 percent certainty. Otherwise I've also started reading the Little Office of the Virgin Mary, I believe that's what it's called, it's lovely! It has morning, day, evening, night, and before bed prayers amongst other things, it's sweet. Also pray for a man I met who's in the process of becoming a Priest, he's named Luke. God Bless!
Good Morning Cecilia!,
Thank you!!! I’m starting to feel better. I want to make it to Adoration tomorrow but I’ll still sleep in.
I never went to a Byzantine Catholic Mass before but I have seen some clips on YouTube. That is the exact same time it takes me without traffic to get to the Maronite Catholic Church! If only these churches were closer, huh? But the driving is worth it. Ohh yes I found out these past two weeks volunteering how sweet some of those Maronites can be!
I agree, I see beauty in all Mass forms too. I find the Divine Liturgy to be a sweet spot between the TLM and ok NO. I went to TLM just once but it’ll be interesting to go with my mom this time, God willing, this Saturday. She grew up with all those traditions before everything started changing, she misses it and I feel inspired by it. My favorite saint, St. Padre Pio celebrated the old form, so it is fascinating for sure.
Ohh! I think I saw that little book in a church gift shop, the Little Office of the Virgin Mary. I never picked it up to flip through but I’ll have to go look at it next time I stop in.
I’ll pray for Luke! ☺️

Novena to Saint Padre Pio Recited: Sept. 14th - Sept. 22nd or Anytime Feast Day: September 23
" Pray, hope, and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer." - Padre Pio
Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, filled with infinite love, broken by my ingratitude, pierced by my sins, yet loving me still; accept the consecration that I make to You of all that I am and all that I have. Take every faculty of my soul and body and draw me, day by day, nearer and nearer to Your Sacred Heart, and there, as I can understand the lesson, teach me Your blessed ways. Amen.
1st DAY
Beloved Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, you have had the signs of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ on your body. You have carried this stigmata for everyone, enduring both the physical and mental sufferings that racked your soul and body in a continual sacrifice. We beg you to pray for us, so that we will be able to accept both the little and the larger crosses we too must bear during our life on earth and to offer these sufferings to God, assuring us a place with him in Eternal Life.
"It is to your advantage to commit yourself to the sufferings that Jesus will send to you. Jesus cannot tolerate seeing you afflicted and he will come to you and comfort you, blessing you with many graces for your soul". - Padre Pio
Say the Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
2nd DAY
Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, together with Our Lord Jesus Christ, you’ve been able to withstand the temptations of the Devil. You suffered the beatings and the oppression of the demon of hell, who wanted to have you abandon your journey of holiness. We beg you to pray for us so that, with your help and the help of all of the Heavenly Kingdom, we will be able to find the strength to set sin aside and to persevere in our faith until the day of our death.
"Have courage and do not fear the assaults of the Devil. Remember this forever; it is a Healthy sign if the devil shouts and roars around your conscience, since this shows that He is not inside your will". - Padre Pio
Say the Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
3rd DAY
Virtuous Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, you love Our Holy Mother very much and have received daily graces and consolations from her. Please, we beg you to pray to the Holy Mother for us. Place in her hands the sorrow for our sins and our prayers of reparation, so that, as at Cana of Galilee, her Son says 'yes' to His Mother and our name may be written in the Book of Eternal Life.
"Mary has to be the star that illuminates your path and she will show you the secure way to go to the Celestial Father. She will be an anchor to which you must cling in the hour of temptation". - Padre Pio
Say the Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
4th DAY
Chaste Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, you loved your Guardian Angel, who served you well as your guide and as a defender and messenger. The Angels brought the prayers of your spiritual children to you. We beg you to pray for us, so that we may learn to call on our Guardian Angel who is always ready to guide us to what is good and to avoid falling into sinful actions.
"Invoke your Guardian Angel, who will enlighten you and guide you. God has given him to you for your protection, therefore, you should use him accordingly". - Padre Pio
Say the Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
5th DAY
Prudent Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, you have had a great devotion for the Souls in Purgatory for whom you have offered yourself as a victim to remit their punishments. Please pray for us and ask God to send us the same interest, compassion and love that you have for these souls. In this way, we will also contribute to reducing their suffering and, with our sacrifices and prayers, win for them their necessary Indulgences.
"My God, I beg you; let me bear the punishments that have been prepared for sinners and the souls in Purgatory. Multiply these punishments for me, so that you may forgive and save the sinners and free their souls from purgatory". - Padre Pio
Say the Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
6th DAY
Obedient Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, you have loved the sick more than yourself, because you were able to see Jesus in them. You have performed many miracles by healing patients in the name of Jesus and thereby giving them peace of mind. We beg you to pray for us, so that sick patients, through the intercession of Mary, can be healed and their bodies restored so that they may benefit from the Holy Spirit and, therefore, thank and praise God forever.
"If I knew that a person was afflicted in his mind, body or soul, I would beg God to set him free of his affliction. I would gladly accept the transfer of his affliction to myself, so that he may be saved, and I would ask that he benefit from the fruits of these sufferings… if the Lord would allow me to do it". - Padre Pio
Say the Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
7th DAY Blessed Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, you have worked in "God's Plan for Salvation", by offering your sufferings to free sinners from the chains of the Devil. We beg you to pray for us, so that unbelievers will be converted to the faith, that all sinners will repent in their hearts and that those with lukewarm hearts will find renewed enthusiasm for a Christian life. Finally, pray for all those who are faithful, so that they will persevere on their way to salvation.
"If the people of the World could only see the beauty of ones soul when it is in the Grace of God, all sinners and unbelievers of this world would be instantly converted". - Padre Pio
Say the Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
8th DAY
Pure Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, you experienced great love for your spiritual children and have helped them by purchasing them for Christ with the giving of your blood. Please grant us, who have not met you personally, the opportunity to be considered your spiritual children. In this way, with your protection, guidance and strength, you will obtain for us a special blessing from God, so that we may meet Him on the day of our death at the gates of Heaven.
"It would be most fulfilling, if God would grant me just one wish (if it were possible); that He would say, "Enter Heaven!" This is my one true wish; "That God would take me to Heaven at the same time that the last of my children and the last of the people who submitted to my priestly care have entered". - Padre Pio
Say the Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
9th DAY
Humble Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, you who loved the Roman Catholic Church, pray for us. May the Master send workers to the harvest and give them the strength and knowledge needed to be children of God. Pray that Our Holy Lady will unite Christian people everywhere, comforting all of them in one great house of the Lord, the lighthouse of our salvation in the storm of life… just as a lighthouse is a beacon for safe return when there is a storm at sea.
"You must always keep yourself on the straight and narrow path in the Holy Catholic Church because She is the only Bride of Christ and can bring you peace. She alone possesses Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, who is the true Prince of Peace". - Padre Pio
Say the Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
+ + +
"Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God’s heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips, but with your heart. In fact on certain occasions you should only speak to Him with your heart." - Padre Pio

Join in praying the Novena to Padre Pio!
Novena to Padre Pio - Day 1
O St. Pio, I come to you today knowing that you are truly a miracle worker. As one who is close to Jesus, I ask that you would pray for these my intentions:
(State your intentions here)
I pray with the words of Pope John Paul II as I beg for your prayers on my behalf:
“Glorious, humble and beloved Padre Pio. Teach us, we pray, humility of heart, so that we may be counted among the little ones of the Gospel to whom the Father promised to reveal the mysteries of His Kingdom. Help us to pray without ceasing, certain that God knows what we need even before we ask Him.
“Obtain for us the eyes of faith that will help us recognize in the poor and suffering, the very face of Jesus.
“Sustain us in the hour of trouble and trial and, if we fall, let us experience the joy of the sacrament of forgiveness. Grant us your tender devotion to Mary, mother of Jesus and our Mother.
“Accompany us on our earthly pilgrimage toward the blessed Homeland, where we too, hope to arrive to contemplate forever the Glory of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
Amen
In closing, St. Pio, we pray the prayer you composed for Confidence and Trust in God’s Mercy:
“O Lord, we ask for a boundless confidence and trust in Your divine mercy, and the courage to accept the crosses and sufferings which bring immense goodness to our souls and that of Your Church.
Help us to love You with a pure and contrite heart, and to humble ourselves beneath Your cross, as we climb the mountain of holiness, carrying our cross that leads to heavenly glory.
May we receive You with great faith and love in Holy Communion, and allow You to act in us as You desire for your greater glory.
O Jesus, most adorable Heart and eternal fountain of Divine Love, may our prayer find favor before the Divine Majesty of Your heavenly Father.”
Amen.
All glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
St. Padre Pio, Pray for us!
Amen.

The problems with asking various popular saints to intercede for you:
St. Joseph: always comes through, but a) he's really quiet about it, and b) you'll definitely end up with something that "builds character" one way or the other. Pray a novena to him, things start to seem to get worse and worse, and then like two years later you look back and go "Oh. That was my answer."
Blessed Mother: like St. Joseph, except she's a bit more upfront about everything.
St. Therese of Lisieux: you're going to have a weird response to unexpected roses for the rest of your life.
St. John Bosco: he has a sense of humor.
St. Anthony: yeah, he'll point you in the direction of your keys, but my man is dedicated to the poor. Expect at least one direct encounter with a panhandler who's going to get more than your spare change, even if it's just a sympathetic ear for a moment.
St. Rita & St. Monica: their whole shtick is that you have to set a good example to the person you want converted, and opportunities will be sent your way.
St. Francis: he works in extremes. Also you end up a lot more attached to a pet than you'd have been otherwise after you've asked for a hand with it.
St. Padre Pio: it's weird to say that a saint's 'aggressive,' but he is. This asking for intercession thing is a two-way street, and he's coming your way with a spiritual training regimen you're not getting out of.
Someone with an open cause for canonization: pros: more likely to see an actual science-defying miracle. cons: see previous.
Any of the martyrs: they know one way to get to Heaven.
(nb: this is tongue-in-cheek, don't take it too seriously)

Hi! This is a weird ask, but would you be willing to post resources/arguments about Christianity being true? Like, were there specific ones that convinced you to convert? I was raised Catholic but didn't really believe it growing up, but would like to have the same feelings about faith and peace that you posted about. I'm in a bit of a bad place right now and would like to go back and deepen my faith but it's hard.
This isn’t a weird ask, don’t worry! I’d love to provide you with some resources :) I’ll try to include both visual and auditory mediums as I don’t know what your learning style is.
I don’t mean to overwhelm you with information, please forgive me if this is too much 😗
I’m going to split this up into different categories of content here, based loosely around my conversion journey—i.e. what I had questions and doubts about. Please remember that faith is a very personal journey and you may have different concerns altogether, but hopefully this will give you a starting point to jump off of.

Subcategory: Near death experiences This is clearly anecdotal evidence and therefore not as strong, but I found reading about near death experiences to be extremely interesting. I liked browsing the NDE subreddit :) The common experience of SOMETHING among those who nearly die is at least indicative of there being more beyond the material realm, and by extension, a God.
Second: Arguments for monotheism
This isn’t a common apologetics issue unless you’re a convert from a polytheistic religion (which I was), so there’s less content on this.

Third: How reliable are the Gospels? Did Jesus even exist?

Pints with Aquinas - Is the New Testament Really Historically Accurate? W/ Trent Horn

My personal tips section :)
While it’s very important to have a logical foundation for religion, PLEASE don’t underestimate the power of simply sitting with God in prayer. That’s the most important thing. I love praying the rosary, practicing lectio divina, praying novenas, reading the psalms, etc. Prayer shouldn’t always be scripted either. The pre-written prayers are helpful for when you aren’t really sure what to say or where to start, but you should speak to God from your heart as much as possible. Sometimes prayer doesn’t even have to be verbal! Sometimes it’s just a state of being.
Music also goes hand in hand with this. Hymns can really help you get into that religious spiritual headspace when you feel disconnected from God. Here’s a channel that posts some good ones. Read the Bible. When in doubt, just read it or listen to someone else read it. It’s truly the inspired Word of God. For a while it was really hard for me to connect with Jesus for some reason, but reading the Gospels has been instrumental in building a stronger relationship with Him. It’s kind of a given but you might have the same blockages as I did.
A good way to learn more about Christianity, the Church, and her saints is to keep track of the Church calendar. For instance, find out what important feast days/holidays are coming up, then research and learn about them around the time that they occur. Okay that’s pretty much it! Feel free to DM me about anything (I love theological discussion). I hope things get better for you--trust that I’ll be praying for you. Have a lovely day!

Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
This novena prayer was recited every day by Padre Pio for all those who asked for prayers. The faithful are invited to recite it daily, so as to be spiritually united with the prayer of Padre Pio.
I. O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, ask and it will be given you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you.” Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of [insert your intention.] Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be to the Father…Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
II. O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, if you ask any thing of the Father in my name, He will give it to you.” Behold, in your name, I ask the Father for the grace of [insert your intention.] Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be to the Father…Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
III. O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away.” Encouraged by your infallible words I now ask for the grace of [insert your intention.] Our Father…Hail Mary…Glory be to the Father…Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of you, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender mother and ours.
Say the Hail, Holy Queen and add: St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.

Saint Padre Pio's Novena Chaplet to the Sacred Heart was one of Padre Pio's favorite prayers that he prayed daily. It is commonly referred to as Padre Pio's "Secret Weapon Prayer" because of it's power and miracles that have been attributed to it.
"PADRE PIO'S CHAPLET TO THE SACRED HEART" O Jesus, full of grace and charity, victim for sinners, so impelled by Your love for us that You willed to die on the Cross, I humbly beseech You to glorify in heaven and on earth Your servant, Padre Pio, who generously participated in Your sufferings, who loved You so much and labored so faithfully for the glory of Your Heavenly Father and for the good of souls. With confidence I ask You to grant me, through Saint Padre Pio's intercession, these special requests... (Mention here).
O my Jesus, You have said: "Truly I say to you, ask and it will be given you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you." Behold, I knock, I seek, and I ask for the grace of ... (Mention your request).
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.
O my Jesus, You have said: "Truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father in My Name, He will give it to you." Behold, in Your name, I ask the Father for the grace of... (Mention your request).
Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.
O my Jesus, You have said: "Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away." Encouraged by Your infallible words, I now ask for the grace of... (Mention your request).
Our Father... Hail Mary... Glory Be... Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have mercy on us sinners, and grant us the grace which we ask of You, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Your tender mother and ours.
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you we cry, poor banished children on Eve. To you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. That we may be maid worthy of the promises of Christ.
St, Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us. Amen.

THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS AND PADRE PIO
.
In 1952, a woman was about to die during delivery because of an erroneous blood transfusion. She received the Last Rites. When the priest left, she saw a monk: “I am Padre Pio and you will not die. Say an ‘Our Father’ and one day you will come to see me.” About a year later, she went to see Padre Pio. He told her: “You got the miracle because the Sacred Heart sent me to save you, since you are devoted to him and did the First Fridays of each month.”
.
This devotion consists in attending Holy Mass and receiving Holy Communion in reparation for those who do not receive Our Lord, who do not love Him and who wound Him by their sinful lives.
..
“I promise you, in the excessive mercy of My Heart, that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who communicate on the First Friday of nine consecutive months, the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their Sacraments, My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.”
(Our Lord to St. Margaret Mary)

Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
by Rev. Irenaeus Schoenherr, O.F.M.
.
God has always dealt with men in a way consonant with their nature--by drawing them to His Holy Will by promises of reward. It was so with His dealings with the chosen people under the Old Dispensation. It was the way of Christ in the New, promising even a hundredfold return for compliance with His desires. And so it is in the history of the revelation and propagation of the devotion to the Sacred Heart.
.
"That men might more readily respond to that wonderful and overflowing desire of love," wrote Leo XIII in his Encyclical Annum Sacrum (1899) on the devotion, "Jesus, by the promise of rich rewards, called and drew all men to Him." St. Margaret Mary in her writings insists again and again on the ardent desire of Christ to pour out blessings with a royal generosity on those who would honor His Divine Heart and return Him love for love.
.
These Promises of the Sacred Heart, in the form in which they are now popularly known and approved by the Church, far surpass in variety, universality and importance those attached to any other exercises of devotion in the Church.
.
They are addressed to all sorts of persons: to the fervent, the tepid, and the sinful. They embrace every condition of life: priests, religious, and seculars. They promise relief to the afflicted, strength to the tempted, consolation to the sorrowful, peace to the family, blessings in the home, success in our enterprises, mercy to the sinner, high sanctity to fervent souls, courage to the cold of heart. They promise power to the priest to soften the hardest hearts. They promise strength and courage on our death-bed, and tell us of the priceless gift of final perseverance and of a refuge in the Heart of Christ at the last moment.
.
What greater or more valuable favors than these could even the omnipotent and boundless love and goodness of the Sacred Heart bestow on us? These Promises help us to an understanding of the truth of St. Margaret Mary's glowing words: "Jesus showed me how this devotion is, as it were, the final effort of His love, the last invention of His boundless Charity."
.
.
1st Promise-- "I will give to My faithful all the graces necessary in their state of life."
.
The duties of our daily life are numerous and often difficult. God grants us in response to prayer and frequent reception of the Sacraments all the necessary graces for our state of life. There are also extraordinary graces which lie outside the usual action of God's Providence, graces that He gives to His special friends. These are more efficacious graces, more plentifully given to the clients of the Sacred Heart.
.
.
2nd Promise -- "I will establish peace in their homes."
.
"'Peace is the tranquillity of order, the se- renity of mind, simplicity of heart, the bond of charity." (St. Augustine) It was the first thing the Angels wished to men at the birth of Jesus. Our Lord Himself bade His disciples to invoke it: "Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house!' " (Luke 10, 5) In the Heart of Jesus will be found the true peace, that makes the home the reflex and anticipation of our heavenly Home.
.
.
3rd Promise -- "I will comfort them in all their afflictions."
.
The desire to comfort the sorrowful is the mark of a noble and kind heart. The Sacred Heart is the most noble and generous of hearts, both human and divine. How does He console us? Not necessarily by freeing us from sorrow and affliction. He knows the priceless value of the cross--that we have sins to expiate. By His grace, He makes what is painful tolerable. "I am filled with comfort, I overflow with joy in all our troubles." (2 Cor. 7, 4)
.
.
4th Promise -- "I will be their secure refuge in life, and above all in death."
.
"One of the soldiers opened His side with a lance, and immediately there came out blood and water." (John 19, 34) Christ's side was opened to show that Divine Providence wished all men to find in His Divine Heart an assured refuge against the enemies of our salvation. In His Heart we can find protection, strength in our frailty, perseverance in our inconstancy, assured refuge in the dangers and toils of life, and at the hour of death.
.
.
5th Promise -- "I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings."
.
"God is love." He is ready to give His children abundant temporal blessings as long as they do not imperil our eternal interests. His "special" Providence protects and watches over those devoted to the Sacred Heart with peculiar love and tenderness. However, we should not be discouraged if our prayers for temporal favors are not always answered, for God always puts our eternal good before our temporal good.
.
.
6th Promise--"Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and the infinite ocean of mercy."
.
The Redemption is the immortal drama of God's mercy; and our Divine Redeemer is, as it were, God's Mercy Incarnate. "With the Lord is kindness and with Him plenteous Redemption." (Ps. 129, 7) On earth the Heart of Christ was full of mercy toward all. Now in His glorified humanity in heaven Jesus continues to show forth His boundless mercy, "always living to make intercession for us." (Heb. 7,25)
.
.
7th Promise -- "Tepid souls shall become fervent."
.
Lukewarmness is a languid dying state of the soul that has lost its interest in religion. The Holy Spirit expresses deep disgust for such a soul: "You are neither cold nor hot ... I am about to vomit you out of My mouth." (Apoc. 3, 15) The only remedy for it is devotion to the Sacred Heart, Who came "to cast fire on earth," i.e., to inspire the cold and tepid heart with new fear and love of God.
.
.
8th Promise -- "Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection."
.
High perfection is the reward that Christ bestows on the fervent clients of His Divine Heart; for this devotion has, as its special fruit, to transform us into a close resemblance to our Blessed Lord. This is done by kindling in our hearts the fire of divine love, which, as St. Paul says, "is the bond of perfection." (Col. 3, 14) Through devotion to the Sacred Heart self-love will give way to an ardent zeal for His interests.
.
.
9th Promise -- "I will bless every place in which an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honored."
.
Religious pictures are a powerful appeal and inspiration. The Sacred Heart is an open book wherein we may read the infinite love of Jesus for us in His Passion and Death. He shows us His Heart, cut open by the lance, all aglow like a fiery furnace of love, whose flames appear bursting forth from the top. It is encircled with thorns, the anguishing smarts of unheeded love. May it ever impel us to acts of love and generosity.
.
.
10th Promise -- "I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts."
.
The conversion of a sinner calls sometimes for extraordinary graces. God never forces the free will of a human being. But He can give actual graces with which He forsees the sinner will overcome the resisting attitude of the most obstinate sinful soul. This, then, is what occurs in the case of priests who are animated with great devotion to the Sacred Heart.
.
.
11th Promise -- "Those who promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be effaced."
.
This Promise holds out to promoters of devotion to the Sacred Heart a wonderful reward--they "shall have their names written in My Heart." These words imply a strong and faithful friendship of Christ Himself, and present to us "the Book of Life" of St. John: "I will not blot his name out of the book of life." (Apoc. 3, 5)
.
.
12th Promise -- "To those who shall communicate on the First Friday, for nine consecutive months, I will grant the grace of final penitence."
.
This Promise contains a great reward, which is nothing less than heaven. "Final perseverance is a gratuitous gift of God's goodness, and cannot be merited as an acquired right by any individual act of ours." (Council of Trent) It is given as the reward for a series of acts continued to the end: "He who has persevered to the end will be saved." (Matt. 10, 22)
