ayo I don't even go here (not involved in whatever fight ur fighting) but deflecting someone calling Laurentiis abusive (which he was. he was toxic.) by calling their comment abusive is a little...ironic, isn't it? Uhm. Follow your own advice? They didn't say anyrhing disparaging you...like at all. lmfao. grow up, perhaps?
You are correct, I was not disparaged, nor did I claim to be.
I wrote:
If a piece of fanfiction makes you so angry that you feel the need to send abusive anonymous comments to the author and/or ask that author to pass on your comment “correcting” the opinion of a reader writing about that story, you should probably stop reading that fic.
I named two distinct actions that would indicate one is angry enough that one ought to stop reading a fic:
Sending abusive anonymous comments to the author.
Asking the author to pass on a comment correcting the opinion of a reader who posted about the story.
The first of these has happened to @thickenmyblood several times that they have shared, and many other times that they have not. The comments have not just disparaged their story, but have disparaged them as a person. I do consider that abusive, though obviously on a spectrum where the consequences are much less severe than other types of abuse.
I feel strongly that anonymous and personally disparaging comments sent on social media are a form of abuse.
It makes me angry that Maca experiences this form of abuse for a piece of artistic expression. It is all the more frustrating because I believe the criticisms of the work itself are not well founded. And, yes, I do think it is ironic that the content of the anonymous comments I consider abusive is about Laurent being abusive.
I do not know if the anonymous person who took Action #2 has also taken Action #1 in the past. Because they are anonymous. But sending a criticism of a fic to a third party through the author is passive aggressive at best. In any case, I wished to make clear that I don't think either action is warranted when the more obvious answer is to close the tab.
I am not claiming to have been the target of abuse. I did, however, feel I was being called out for my opinion on a piece of fanfiction. After all, the person specifically requested that the ask be forwarded to me because they could not make the ask here. So when Maca sent me the ask, I answered it here by detailing my interpretation of HIUH Laurent using textual references.
I do not think posting 5K words on the topic of whether Laurent is abusive and what that means in the context of HIUH and Captive Prince canon constitutes a deflection, but YMMV.
Am I feeling particularly salty because of some obnoxious holiday family drama? Yes. Yes, I am.
But I don't apologize for defending Maca. (Though Maca has never asked for me to do so.) And I answered the ask I was given. Quite thoroughly.

Today my therapist introduced me to a concept surrounding disability that she called "hLep".
Which is when you - in this case, you are a disabled person - ask someone for help ("I can't drink almond milk so can you get me some whole milk?", or "Please call Donna and ask her to pick up the car for me."), and they say yes, and then they do something that is not what you asked for but is what they think you should have asked for ("I know you said you wanted whole, but I got you skim milk because it's better for you!", "I didn't want to ruin Donna's day by asking her that, so I spent your money on an expensive towing service!") And then if you get annoyed at them for ignoring what you actually asked for - and often it has already happened repeatedly - they get angry because they "were just helping you! You should be grateful!!"
And my therapist pointed out that this is not "help", it's "hLep".
Sure, it looks like help; it kind of sounds like help too; and if it was adjusted just a little bit, it could be help. But it's not help. It's hLep.
At its best, it is patronizing and makes a person feel unvalued and un-listened-to. Always, it reinforces the false idea that disabled people can't be trusted with our own care. And at its worst, it results in disabled people losing our freedom and control over our lives, and also being unable to actually access what we need to survive.
So please, when a disabled person asks you for help on something, don't be a hLeper, be a helper! In other words: they know better than you what they need, and the best way you can honor the trust they've put in you is to believe that!
Also, I want to be very clear that the "getting angry at a disabled person's attempts to point out harmful behavior" part of this makes the whole thing WAY worse. Like it'd be one thing if my roommate bought me some passive-aggressive skim milk, but then they heard what I had to say, and they apologized and did better in the future - our relationship could bounce back from that. But it is very much another thing to have a crying shouting match with someone who is furious at you for saying something they did was ableist. Like, Christ, Jessica, remind me to never ask for your support ever again! You make me feel like if I asked you to call 911, you'd order a pizza because you know I'll feel better once I eat something!!
Edit: crediting my therapist by name with her permission - this term was coined by Nahime Aguirre Mtanous!
Edit again: I made an optional follow-up to this post after seeing the responses. Might help somebody. CW for me frankly talking about how dangerous hLep really is.

Watching Eddie Begins with Buddie-colored glasses on is already crazy enough, but I just caught something that I never really thought about before. Athena tells Bobby that the news crews showing up before she leaves for another call might turn the call into a nationwide story. And then Buck absolutely LOSES it when 30 feet of wet earth falls on top of Eddie. So yeah, maybe Bobby pulls Buck away to stop him from futilely digging for Eddie with his hands, but maybe he also does it because he doesn’t want his kid’s grief and fear and love for Eddie being broadcast across the country. Especially not when Bobby thinks that Eddie’s probably already dead. And not only does Bobby pull Buck away from the well, he pulls back right into his lap. This is the closest we get to Bobby cradling Buck in his arms until the lightning strike, and it’s because he doesn’t want Buck to be in pain, and he most certainly does NOT want the tragedy of Eddie’s death to be made even worse by Buck’s pain over it being broadcast to the entire country.

I would say that, considering his history, he's not that wrong, but even I have doubts as to whether that would be right. But at the end of the day, this is just a joke that's been in my head for a while, sooooo…eh.
Oh hey, an attempt at a comic? Made by me? That I didn't give up during the process or lost all motivation? What was my only attempt at this, 2019? Damn, it's been a long time.
I thought about leaving this here without editing or any colors, just the natural ones from the paper and pencil. But something in my head said "HAHAHA, no" so I went back to work.
I had to put this idea down on paper this time (literally). If another year passes without me being able to execute this idea, I would lose my mind.
This scenario was inspired by this video by Jehtt, inspired by the original meme by Windii. Credits to both of them.
For a long time I wanted to joke - especially on the anniversary - that I wanted Sammy to only have less than 5 seconds in the next game (or in other words, take his screen time in DR, and shorten it even more). You know, just for the funnies (unless..?)
But,thanks to the news released at the beginning of January this year about The Cage, I legally can't do this joke anymore…this year. Don't worry, after that comes out (and finally gives Sam the screen time he wants, hopefully) and we start to crawl into the Bendy 3 production era, I'll make this joke when I can.
Anyway, happy birthday Sammy Lawrence. You may not be my favorite character in this franchise, but there are some things I can actually appreciate about you. Plus, you made me laugh a few moments before (you know what I'm talking about) so there's that.
And happy 7 years to Chapter 2, and by extension, Susie, Norman, Alice, the Searchers, (Johnny????), and Beta Ink Bendy. (I would mention Jack too, but he was only introduced with the release of CH4, so technically it's not his birthday yet, but I'll consider him here).
And now? May I be able to do something for CH4's anniversary. Wish me luck, cus I'll need it.
(it might be really late now, but it's still the 18th where I live, so it's still his birthday, so I still won)
