Several seconds and several centuries later, Eris raised his head from the moonlit water. Starker from above then head on, sharpened into something that did not strictly suggesting living to human sensibility, utterly enthralling to Elain’s eyes. All bone and brightness, a better shock of color than what the silver, massive moon gave. Those cheekbones. His mouth, softer a savage line than it had any right to be. Eris Vanserra, who’d given her the words to tear eternity apart, quiet on his knees. “It worked.” Not a question. Perhaps an excuse for the look his cast up at her, that still, lurking wonder that made Elain feel twenty and a thousand at once, like fizz in her veins. Flowering. Finding- Eris, constant in the endless ocean of her life, dark under light and blinding light in this dark.  She’d find a way to say it back- to say it right. “You remember?” One brow, raised high, before Eris gave in entirely and smiled. “We should find them.” The water hardly shifted. A wound and a wonder and no current at all, just fascination. Just Eris, on his feet, offering his arm like he really thought she might not take it, after all these years. “We,” Elain repeated, agreed, unable abruptly not to laugh. “We should.”

i find it incredibly amusing how my favorite Hozier song, Work Song, fits SO MUCH with both my all-time-favorite couples for whom i would die for in a heartbeat (hualian and aziracrow) like LOOK AT THIS. LOOK AT THIS SHIT.

thinking some thinking thoughts about an orphan who wanted to be a wizard and another orphan that wanted to be a knight (and they both got physically dragged to hell but they got better...eventually)

hozier was so real for writing work song. like what do you mean i'm so full of love i could barely eat??? what do you mean when my time comes around, lay me gently in the cold dark earth??? what do you mean no grave can hold my body down, i'll crawl home to her??? what do you mean i didn't care how long i lived but i swear i thought i dreamed her??? what do you mean she put her love down soft and sweet in the low lamplight, i was free???

Finnick death denier all the way 😌😌😌😌
I literally cannot accept any other truth. He’s FINE. He might be a little banged up and probably doesn’t have all his limbs and probably has scars and isn’t “pretty” anymore but he doesn’t care at all and everyone is happy and FINE.
He’s not dead. Certainly not.

Work Song is a literal work song!?
This song's POV is someone in a labor camp.
youtube
No grave can hold my body down, I'll crawl home to her is not just "this loving is so good, I’ll resurrect to get some more" but "I am trapped in a physically bad place, and death is my best chance of going home"
Nina Simone, a noted Hozier influence, also wrote a "Work Song" https://genius.com/Nina-simone-work-song-lyrics and this is a deliberate homage. The tempo and regular beat of Hozier's "Work Song" fit exactly as a work song (compared with To Be Alone which has a changing time signature and changing tempo).
youtube
First verse:
Boys workin' on empty Is that the kinda way to face the burning heat? I just think about my baby I'm so full of love I could barely eat There's nothing sweeter than my baby I'd never want once from the cherry tree 'Cause my baby's sweet as can be She give me toothaches just from kissin' me
Seems to be set in the American South and not Ireland. Hozier takes 4 couplets to talk about his hunger, this repetition fits the genre of work songs and also seems to be a literal need for food, not just a yearning. Middle verse:
Boys, when my baby found me I was three days on a drunken sin I woke with her walls around me Nothin' in her room but an empty crib And I was burnin' up a fever I didn't care much how long I lived But I swear I thought I dreamed her She never asked me once about the wrong I did
Our guy is in an altered state both now and at the time of this memory - drunken, fevered, probably dreaming. His baby forgave him before for the drinking and the "wrong he did", so he hopes to reunite when his current ordeal ends. Past and present are blurring, his picture of home and safety with "walls around" and "an empty crib" has been colored by his confinement in jail.
Final Verse:
My baby never fret none About what my hands and my body done If the Lord don't forgive me I'd still have my baby and my babe would have me When I was kissing on my baby And she put her love down soft and sweet In the lowland plot I was free Heaven and hell were words to me
Our narrator seems to have done some real harm, a sin beyond drunkenness or lust, causing guilt and his jail sentence. The final couplet, I often see written as "In the low lamplight I was free" which is a nice sensual moment, but the official lyrics are more powerful:
"In the lowland plot I was free" At the moment of his unglamorous death and burial, he is ready to "crawl home to her" covering the physical distance between them, rejoicing in his freedom from jail, God, and even death itself.

A scarce half hour later, Lucien’s morning had wrapped right around itself to the same exact problem. Again, between the abject falsehood of Nesta’s fragile mortal body, and Tamlin, right on the edge of something ruinous. He was staring at the blood on her hands. Not all faeries bled red- even to the human eye there was a distinction in shades. Some fae, born of just enough Spring in them, bled like tree sap, gleaming sticky gold. Thin. Dripping from the white strain of Nesta’s knuckles, a sort of uneasy mixed pink of muddled High Fae heritage. “What,” Tamlin snapped, cold, cold, and faraway, “In the name of all your damned mortal gods, do you think you’re doing?” The game was already up. The game was just beginning, another life, another moment, Nesta’s beautiful face set in a truth she could not entirely act away. Lucien’s heart might have given out, in sheer unremitting fondness. If he wasn’t sick on the grass first. “You promised,” Nesta’s human voice still cut, but she was trying, almost making it, to something softer. Quieter. “You promised. Faeries cannot break their vows, even I know that.” “Tam,” Lucien tried, nausea filling his throat. “You said,” Nesta continued, like he hadn’t spoken at all, “No one would harm him. No harm. How are any of us to survive what it so come if we are not even safe from- from”- Finally, belatedly, Tamlin looked from the wet brick in her hand, yanked from an ancient folly wall, to the crumbled, caved in, blue figure between them.

Chapter 3: “It’s peculiar,” Krell says, “that something like you would be subject to a blessing by the Force.”
Hardcase freezes, manages not to choke on his panic but only barely. Glares even harder and wishes for some explosives or a blaster or something to wipe that fucking look off of Krell’s face.
“Though,” Krell continues, “maybe it is meant to be a punishment. CT-5196 surely thinks so.”

I don’t think we as a society talk enough about Hozier’s Work Song in relation to Captain Swan in season 5, so I have taken it upon myself to think about it at least five times a day. Thank you for your attention.
