there was talking when you woke up —muffled and slurred by your sleepiness,— from where you presumed was outside of the room. you shift to face the windows, where lloyd and his displaced chair was when you fell asleep to find that he focused on the door with narrowed eyes staring holes as he listened. he always had better hearing than you.

“hi,” he quietly greeted you, examining you for any discomfort with the firm, cold —though now a little softer, you think— look he had when looking at the door; he returned his attention back to continue listening to the commotion. you look up at him with confusion on your face, squeezing his hand to get his attention but it doesn’t budge him much. “skywalker?” this time, you call in hopes you get some explanation.

though, you can't deny the focused look on his face is adorable.

he squeezes your hand back, perking up as the conflict grows loudly outside of the room. he shook his head, looking back at you with a soft warmth in his eyes. “sorry, i was trying to piece that story together,” he admits, a little sheepish smile on his lips as he beams softly at you.

“and?” now you’re curious.

“so, i think the first lady, wanted to see someone –who i guess just got admitted in– but there’s another lady who said she can’t– so they got into an argument of who can and can’t do what,” he breaks it down quickly with his attention divided between you and outside; the commotion had died down now and the sound of light shuffling began to sink away. “sounds like some family drama.”

“sounds less terrible than our drama– speaking of… what’s up with your father, may i ask?” it's an impulsive question you ask, but you keep your tone light in the case he decides to back away from the topic. lloyd was never one to talk or ask about his father, a man you doubt he knew. he sought to find that affection in your father, who willingly showed it to the boy.

lloyd tensed up (you mentally curse yourself for being curious about his father) before returning his full focus on you and the topic at hand, he gnawed a little on his lip and looked down to where your hand was intertwined with his. the blond cleared his throat and spoke in a low, uncertain tone, “he was a tyrant.”

that was all he said for several minutes, leaning down to rest his head on the soft covers and mattress of your hospital bed, still avoiding your eyes. “had been trying to take over ninjago for… months? years?” he hesitantly continues, looking up with soft –hurt– eyes.

“that’s– why he left. but he’s better now. nothing like what he was before– not all evil and.. he’s my dad now,” lloyd explains, putting his explanation in simple words as a hesitant smile grows on his lips.

you sit up slowly, threading a hand through his hair, you smile at him with a similar, warmer softness to comfort him. “are you scared of being him, what he was?” he nods a little, leaning into your touch. “you won’t be, lloyd. you’re a good person,” your words are soft spoken —but they’re true— as you watch him, he sighs quietly before nodding again.

“i– i know.” his voice was small, soft with uncertainty and slight fear mixing despite his agreement. “thanks,” he mumbles, looking up at you with a small smile on his lips.

“anything for you,” you muse, smiling back as he closes his eyes and enjoys the feeling of you playing with his hair so delicately. your words have a gentle tone of promise in them, a little love and adoration. you mean it, you’d do anything for him.

lloyd looks up at you, peeking with one eye as he questions your words a little, noticing the vague underlying tone of them. but he drops his curiosity and chuckles a little, lifting his head up so your hand holds his face in a not awkward way. lloyd tilts his face inward, pressing his lips to your palm softly and, in the process, making your heart swell a little. “right back at you.” you smile back at him, his own words were sweet enough for you.

he hums, leaning into your hand with one of his holding it gently.

“hungry?” he asks a little quietly, squeezing your hand a little. you shake your head, “not really.” lloyd laughs, kissing your palm again —oh, why did he do it a second time?— before pulling away and reaching for the table at the foot of the bed with his unoccupied hand and sliding it towards you —the other was still holding yours. “you say that but you’ll be hungry in less than a minute.”

he’s right, you both know it– proves that you two haven’t changed much in your years apart, proves that your friendship’s still the same; something you’re fortunate for having.

“eat up when you’re ready.” he leans back on his chair and hums a little, smiling while focusing on your hand in his.

you stare at the food, conflicted on whether or not to prove him right on his observation, opting to change the topic. “who– uh, the ninja? who are they now?”

he squints a little out of confusion before sighing as he thinks of an answer, humming for a bit before he speaks. “as the name suggests, they’re ninja.” he looks at you, waiting for you to ask more questions so he can answer accordingly.

when you nod he smiles and continues. “there’s six of them, each have an element and a colour assigned to them and usually what they’re referred to depends; except the water ninja because she and lighting ninja are both blue, one darker and the other brighter– uh, respectively. she’s newer to the team compared to him so he’s preferred to as the blue ninja as well. sometimes she’s red and blue, so it’s easier to call her the water ninja.

“the fire ninja is red and the ice one’s white. the earth ninja’s colour is black and lastly the green ninja is… green,” he explains– rambles harmlessly, looking to the side unfocused as he talks.

the last sentence answers your question, one you didn’t want to ask but regardless sought an answer for, you’re a little hesitant to ask. “green ninja?” “yep, he’s the one that brought you here,” lloyd confirms.

“he and the water ninja were on patrol, and they were in the area when you were–” he stops, eyes hardening when he almost mentions the earlier incident. you watch him, sighing and squeezing his hand. “i’m okay now, lloyd. it’s fine, i’m fine.” you smile at him with a soft understanding look in your eyes. he nods. “i know.”

the guilt claws at his insides —you can tell he feels it, but you’re unsure as to why— as he buries his face in the crook of his other hand and the blankets. he places your hand back on his head and rests his head on both arms more comfortably. “i’m glad nothing worse happened to you,” he says muffledly, glaring straight ahead at the blankets.

there was something he wasn’t saying, conflicted as he bit the sleeve of his hoodie slightly with eyes glued to the blankets. you combed through his hair, soft blond fluffiness with brown peaking out in a few curly locks. you sighed, patting his head to get his attention. lloyd tilted his head to glance up at you, questioning you.

“let’s eat?” you asked, willing to prove him right if it might his mind be taken of whatever he was thinking about. he smiled a little, a mischievous sparkle in his eye as he sat up. “of course,” he’s grinning ear to ear as he pulls the table closer to you, food rattling a little and grabbing something from his bag. “nya made some food for you and sent, and hospital food is a solid no.”

“thank nya then,” you sigh happily, watching him unwrap something, a sandwich he probably packed for himself. you slide him some of much food nya sent, “eat,” you command, staring at him challengingly.

“no.” he stared back, a mischievous grin on his lips.

well, this’ll be fun.

anyways while i procrastinate the next chapter of my smau. here's what i think i would consider my top 10 favourite movies i WATCHED in 2023. they may not have come out this year. and it might be a rewatch but like i saw them this year. ok yeah. keep in mind im a simple silly girl i honestly don't consume much content that isn't related to my hyperfixes sooo i do miss a lot of movies el oh el. anyways !!

under the cut cuz this list is Long sorry guys 😭 would appreciate if u read it though 🫶 just my silly thoughts and i'd love to hear urs !!!

1. spiderman: into the spiderverse. i'm sorry to say i didn't get to see across the spiderverse yet. also this was a rewatch i'm not that late to this movie. but. DUDE. genuinely what i'd consider my favourite movie. of all time. the graphics? literally gorgeous. ugh. i could go on about this movie for ages. it really did change animation if you ask me (a non professional teenage girl) but like ?? the story oh my god i loved the idea. and miles was such a Person. he was so real. oh they did such a good job on miles and gwen and stuff. just like. they were so real to me. i love them so bad this film genuinely had an indescribable effect on me. also i ADORE the soundtrack <3

2. oppenheimer. like. okay i know people complained it was too long. and i get that but also i genuinely would watch like. another hour of that film. THE CINEMATOGRAPHY?? dude it was amazing. i genuinely loved oppenheimer ough it was such an Experience. especially because i went into it thinking i wouldn't enjoy it very much? yeah i was dead wrong. LOVED that film.

3. top gun: maverick. this did come out 2022. which feels crazy i swear it was this year. but i know it was '22 because i rewatched it this year STILL HITS THE SAME !! i genuinely love this movie so fucking bad! the characters were so fun. and i liked how like? despite the established lore that's obviously shown in the film it has a very open new-audience entry point (idk what else to call it ?!?!) because i didn't watch the original top gun but i honestly think i understood like. basically everything in the film. maybe i missed some like nuanced ideas bc they were like linked to the first top gun but other than that it's good as a standalone too and! i value that. it's a great film.

4. blue beetle. i don't know if this film was like. Objectively this good? but i have a few reasons. firstly, i'll admit i'm biased and i just like blue beetle. i love jaime reyes !! so i was super excited to hear there was a blue beetle movie. secondly, i loved the acting. the cast wasn't all that big? not that it was small, or anything, but it might've felt that way bc most of the characters were jaime's family. but. like? they did so incredibly well. it was a Generic Superhero Movie tbh. like, half-assed romance, character's family member dies (will not spoil who though! soz for the half-spoiler) and all that? but. OUGH. beautiful film like the premise was pretty interesting as a blue beetle origin story and i loved the acting it was just. yeah. i loved this movie so so much.

5. transformers: rise of the beasts. i didn't think i'd like this one as much as i did when i watched it. like i really did not. BUT? oh my god it was good. i loved bumblebee !! like okay i know he had his own movie with the reboot but i haven't seen it so. ya. but like also? i really loved the humans. they felt like such People to me? i love them dearly yeah this was actually such a banger movie. 10/10 would recommend!

6. the lego ninjago movie. now. i know a lot of people hated this film. from what i heard back when it came out anyways. and i remember shitting on it too back then but? i genuinely liked it when i rewatched it. it's an enjoyable film. i personally am actually a big fan of the redesigns ?? i like the new designs i like how they put them into the show (even if i'm like. not up to date. at all. sawry!) and i liked the whole high-school thing i thought it was a cute little au. and ?? i know it was very unserious but like. that's by design. i liked it like sometimes you really just shouldn't take it so seriously TEE BEE AYCH !! but maybe that's just me.

7. enola holmes 2. oh my god I LOVED THIS ?! i honestly found the first movie like. a little boring in terms of rewatchability? and i remember liking this film but i rewatched it again and like oh this one was so cool. the match girls strike thing was actually really interesting to me! i didn't know about that so it was pretty cool to learn that. AND? THE ROMANCE? "it means i love you" let me ouuuuuttt oh my god !!!! yeah i loved this movie honestly.

8. a whisper of the heart. honestly i'm kind of late to the ghibli scene </3 I DID SEE THIS BEFORE THOUGH THIS IS A REWATCH but i love this film too much to not mention it. ough. i love a whisper of the heart !! it's so cute and i just love the characters so bad !!!

9. baby shark's big movie! is this on the list only because enhypen was in it. yes. okay no not actually lmao but! it was a factor! like okay. HEAR ME OUT !! it gave me equestria girls vibes! my girlfriend told me never to compare baby shark to EQUESTRIA GIRLS but like. i will speak my truth ! the whole thing was just. silly! like yeah it was a little boring at times and i agree with my gf because nothing beats equestria girls (which i sadly didn't see at all last year. nor descendants but if i had they'd have made the list for sure!) but i genuinely did enjoy this one. it's the truth!

10. drive. i know someone's going to be confused but my brother made me watch it and like. man i genuinely liked it okay 😭 it was a fun watch? that's rlly all there is to it i thought it was funny how he never had a name and is literally called "driver" in the credits. it's hilarious. and like. ryan gosling. yk? and i'll be honest i was running out of movies i saw last year that i actually like. remembered. because i have shit memory and i don't think i saw anything All That Life Changing below like the 8th movie so idk.

bonus: a little list of movies that i might've been interested in but i didn't get to watch last year. just in case one of your favs (or popular slash mainstream movies you've heard of) didn't make the list and you're wondering why. barbie, across the spiderverse (watching soon i swear !), guardians of the galaxy 3, teenage mutant ninja turtles, aquaman and the lost kingdom, anyone but you (i plan to watch it with friends soon!), the boy and the heron, the super mario bros movie, five night's at freddys, and i'm sure theres more but i forgot so yeah.

this is already very long 😭 IF YOU STUCK AROUND THEN THANK U ! let me know what movies you enjoyed this year !!! and if you also enjoyed any i put on this list ! or if u have recs i'd be happy to hear them <3 no guarantee i'll watch them bc i'm very bad with watching movies and stuff but i'd still love love love to hear them !!

finally, you flop down onto your bed with a relieved sigh, burying your face into the sheets of the slightly cold blankets and humming happily. finally, that sad week in the hospital passed –though it only passed so quickly was because of lloyd bugging you for most of it (with the occasional appearance of another one of your new friends, and several video calls from your parents and friends back at home). maybe it wasn’t so sad when that ball of sunshine– lloyd was around.

so far you’ve learnt many things about this city (and surprisingly you were somehow ignorant to all of some of it’s sometimes worldwide news).

there were literally ninja superheroes, one of which –the green one– saved your ass from being robbed and injured, worst case killed. they had been around for several years at this point and did multiple patrol runs daily. not only did they stop major threats, they helped out in the community.

the secret ninja force; named by the public such because the ninja are incredibly secretive about their personal lives and identities (which was called for because they are superheroes), consists of six people.

the green ninja is the leader with some weird green power. the water ninja is one of the two tech heavy heroes in the city, having a close resemblance to a samurai while having that ninja aesthetic. the blue (or lightning) ninja earned his title as the human –are they even human?– plasma ball; while the earth ninja could probably throw a whole building at someone. they earned the title of the strongest. the white ninja (a nindroid?) is the master of ice, and probably the most deceiving of them as one of the sweetest people; albeit a little morally grey, you’ll ever meet despite the cold presence he has. then the red ninja is the most open one of the lot, the master of fire and swords –hey, there's a lot of skill before his wielding.

the ninja also had a goddamn flying ship named the destiny’s bounty.

there’s also samurai x, having the largest panel of debate on whether they’re a guy or lady. they’re the other tech heavy hero in ninjago, following in the footsteps of the previous samurai x who later became the water ninja. you have your suspicion that it might be cyrus borg’s daughter and assistant, pixal. (it was one of hell of a ride when you found out that pixal was actually a robot– nindroid despite her human-like appearance. well, the more you know.)

and well, elemental masters aren’t much of a surprise to you –not when your aunt was one. master of something, you don’t remember too well what it was; just that either skylor might inherit it or it would skip her and possibly manifest in her kids. or you might get it, and frankly that would be sick. but it looks like neither of you did, atleast you choose to believe that instead.

you turn, laying on your side and staring out the window, watching the quiet streets and city through the clear glass with an unfocused attention on it. lloyd’s words on his father stuck in your head, you were curious about him.

you heard of all sorts of things about ninjago before moving here, things you chalked up as elaborate stories before he confirmed it all to you.

stories of overthrowing and controlling the realm, bloodlust and a power hungry fight many villains fought to win but inevitably lost in the end. golden weapons and a boy, a devouring evil that could only ever consume; an evil that never rested, a dark lord. and as of more recently, a princess that tried to rise all hell.

when the ninja defeated the overlord –the never resting evil– lloyd’s father, garmadon was freed from the poison and evil he was under because of the dark lord’s influence. once the man was a tyrant and now you hear he is a sensei of a small, tranquil monastery in a small village somewhere near the city. garmadon sought out lloyd and koko, and became the father and husband the evil forced him not to be.

he was a tyrant and then became a father.

you turn again, laying on your back and stare up at the ceiling with zoned out eyes. the whole situation was peculiar, especially if now since garmadon is good; why was lloyd still so mistreated?

no one necessarily needed to say anything about it; you’ve noticed the looks sour faces the nurses, doctors and patients gave him when he was escorting you out of the hospital. you noticed the vaguely visible tension on his face while he kept his guard up when you two were walking to his busted car and the way he looked as though he was expecting the worst.

a defense mechanism, you could tell from the way his eyes were scanning his surroundings; expect the worst so it doesn’t surprise you.

he softened up only when you two got home, back to your place. but despite the lighter atmosphere in the comfort of the car; you didn’t quite feel he was ready enough to answer your question about the ill treatment he was being faced with subtly. maybe that would also explain why he was so scared that something worse could’ve happened to you.

why’d everything need to be so difficult...?

you frowned, looking out the window with now more focused eyes. it’s been a hell of a week– or several if you count the ones you've been in ninjago; and there’s something nagging you to go home where you’d be safe. but, that would throw everything you’ve worked for, the seat at the best university in all the realm– a ticket out of that house. you’d have to stick it out for a while; at the least for your course to finish before you do anything else.

well, even if you leave, you’ll have lloyd’s number this time; a way to contact that greenie (the one thing you wanted so badly since eleven.)

you close your eyes, trying to get some rest again despite half that week you spent in the hospital consisted of you sleeping when lloyd wasn’t (excusing himself to do something work related–not that you’d known him to be employed at the moment). the soft blankets, now warmed by the gentle sun seeping into your room, call you to fall asleep. and you comply wordlessly, willingly.

until there was a knock on your door and a call of your name.

"and–" lloyd's continuing on with his story, with an obvious patch up or two and a loophole or several to the story to hide the some underlying details about the whole ordeal —whatever said ordeal was. but no one blamed lloyd, not when if he kept true to the tale, he would have revealed the identities of the secret ninja force as the people in the room minus the samurai and whatever skylor was.

jay wondered to himself, did you know about skylor's element? since you came from her mother's side, there was a chance you too had the element amber in your blood, but it had gone to her instead. he internal sighed tiredly, elements and bloodlines never made sense. then again, their fates didn't either. he moved, leaning forward to place his can of some drink on the table; he didn't quite bother familiarizing himself with the name when skylor's fridge kept changing every other day.

it'd be a good month before the monastery was finally fixed up and they'd get to move back into their own home. right now, the house kai (by miracle considering their reputations were tainted by greenie's name and unfortunate circumstances lloyd had as a garmadon) wasn't just home. nya and pixal offered to ask skylor if they could stay and fortunately the amber master didn't mind having the samurai and ex-samurai as roommates as long as she had one room left to spare for her cousin. jay was curious why at the time and now, it seemed surreal to finally met her long-awaited cousin.

oh well, at least lloyd had a friend outside his uncle's students.

you asked a question, someone answered and jay laughed at the response. it was good, life was good. he made his own comment to cole's answer back to you. skylor stood behind nya and jay, aiming a can of something and throwing it at lloyd, who swiftly caught it even if he wasn't quite paying attention. "thanks sky!" he half laughed back while she nodded back, sipping some of her own drink. she sure did love canned drinks..?

lloyd placed the can of what jay figured was monster, boy did he have a problem with monster, on the table, close to zane. he hadn't opened it yet, preoccupied with defending his pride against cole and kai's persistent teasing, the poor boy's face was burning red at the fact they were pulling all the stops while in front of his friend. nya was even also ever casually dropped an embarrassing memory or two before quietly sitting back and laughing at her brother trying so hard not to shutter.

zane, enjoying the friendly fire on lloyd and his adorably easy to flusher-ness, grabbed the wrong can —lloyd's monster and not his own something. and by utter surprise, his hand was soaked with sugary liquid and the room startled into confused silence. he looked down at his hands, looking at the half busted can of the energy drink and the puddle on the table and floor.

the kids (lloyd and [name]) scooted away from the sudden burst of the can, both cleared were terrified by the surprised with the latter using the former as a shield. jay and kai both half screamed, and their significant others both stared at sound with shocked eyes. pixal herself stepped back into the room after walking away for a moment, completely expectant that her beloved would do something like that, sighing as she went with skylor to help her clean up the mess.

"that was.. unexpected," he quietly stared, examining his hand and dropping the can's pieces into the bin —bought to him by skylor— and stepping out of the room to clean himself. when he stepped back inside the room, he softly smiled, albeit guilty. "sorry lloyd," he quietly apologized to him.

"no stress but.. how did it?" lloyd wondered, staring accusingly at the other cans.

"cans are weak as fuck nowadays man—" [name] stated, almost disappointedly before leaning forward to pick some of the things up and off the table to let pixal wipe the surface of it.

zane nodded, barely registering his friends half dying on the other side from the random can destroying that happened. he caught pixal and lloyd half chuckling to themselves before skylor handed lloyd a second can; this time, zane didn't touch the can in fear he might destroy it.

"behold–!" jay begins half dying from laughter, "zane! the can destroyer–!" the three of them doubled over in laughter. nya smacked her boyfriend on the head before finally succumbing to her own amusement. zane chuckled slightly embarrassed.

"no more cans for you." pixal promptly walks off after all the cleaning (shared between herself, lloyd, [name], zane himself and skylor) was done to do the thing she was originally going to do.

he laughed slightly, pulling her back to press a quick kiss to her temple. "understood, love."

maybe this was a bad idea: coming to the store by yourself without anyone else to accompany, to chase away and ease your nerves. anxiety began to rack its thin finger against your heart as the car parked off to the side of the pavement. nya checked her phone quickly, angling the screen just short of out of your sight but you don't bother about what she's busy with both out of decency and being out of it.

the car's safety tried to call you back, singing a song of comfort as you reluctantly stepped out of the vehicle to complete your own tasks of the day. nya, while in the midst of your worrying and fastening breath hidden behind the disposable mask you grabbed, mentioned something you don't quite understand entirely from the slightly deafness you felt but nonetheless the least go along with it as she starts the car, waves and finally drove off to her own destination. maybe you should've let pixal when she offered to accompany you– well too bad it's too late now.

it's quick, you think to yourself to reassure the panic from settling in, a simple in and out. all you needed was a few things and you'd be out in a jiff, and the house was nothing but a good ten minutes away– you choose to believe that it is near instead of its realistic distance being further rather than closer. you hesitantly step inside the small convenience store, counting all the heads you see before walking around the side of the aisles to find the one you needed exactly.

relief flooded you like a thin stream of mist, the bell rang as the last person and their child, who was half embarrassed by their mother, left the store while bidding a rather noisy goodbye to the clearly tired cashier, who only rolled their eyes before continuing on with their own personal work. you pick the things you need up quickly, checking their prices quickly before grabbing a pack of some ramen you liked and a few energy drinks from one of the neatly packed fridges. skylor did say they normally restocked the night before saturday. with a good attempt, you tried to seem calm while walking up to the cashier.

they greeted you softly, still in their own haze of thought and daydreaming when you get to them after a quick moment. they half-smiled before continuing on with their job, taking each of the items from your short list and cashing them. their calm energy radiated and softened your nerves for a moment. they were just someone no older than you, mostly fresh out of high school and maybe even trying to make ends meet? or they were trying to earn enough to cover the cost of university or college, you couldn't tell.

it was something so fascinating about the whole — outside a single perspective, were the interesting lives of thousands of millions to billions, all filling the pages of their books with ink crafted to them in their own unique writing.

they handed you the bagged items and slip after they received the cash you handed back to them, letting out a small farewell greeting and going back to their own work and continuing on with their day. never caring of whether it was the last time you'd see them or if this was just the first.

but your mind was at ease– maybe you were hyper fixated by anxiety thumping against your head at first but it ceased, at least until you made it halfway down the road. something warned you, a gut feeling that meshed with anxiety and worry that told you to turn back and call someone to pick you up. your heart picked up the pace the faster you began to walk, your breath left you in a heave and pant.

regrettably, you spare a look behind you.

nothing.

the anxiety rushes forward, sending your nerves on an electrified run the moment the presence lurking after your steps vanishes from your sights and senses. it crashed roughly and flooded rationality, but you kept the fast pace and reframed from breaking out into a desired sprint back to skylor's place.

the steps became loudly, your sometimes false suspicion was now correct; someone was following you and not so discreetly. from the sound of the footsteps, they were heavy and following your exact direction you were heading. and you doubt they were of good intentions.

"fuck– please go away," you whispered under your breath, the only person who would have only heard was yourself, but you heard the desperation and fear that something might happen.

if only you were in shape, it's been forever since your last workout or try to keep yourself fit and in good health. since your high school career started coming to a close in your last couple years, it swiped you of any energy and time you had left outside your preexisting tuitions and classes. sometimes you wonder how you were still standing when you didn't have any of those energy drinks.

there was a drunken snicker from behind you, warily you glance back and catch the sight of a stranger watching you walk at a fastened pace with the utmost interest and caution.

you turned, a wrong one by your misjudgement and settling panic rising further than before. you notice you're panting slightly at how your body is coming to terms with how hard its work to keep you moving. vaguely you noticed the mistake you made, you were supposed to take the turn after. and it might cost you gravely.

your skin itches, a crawling feeling stretches up your arm and it becomes unreal how disgusting you begin to feel the moment the stranger grabs your arm. they grabbed you— it takes a moment to register that they managed to get a hold on you, but now your back hits the hard wall with a thud that rings heavy against the street's bare, lonely walls. the pain cracks through your body, a thick hurt fleet from your back and along your body with a burning touch. that's a faint sound of the contents from your run earlier meeting the ground, its vague against the loud ringing echoing in your hazy mind.

the stranger asks of something from you, their face blurry with the sky and wall meshing together. they ask a second time, louder and much clearer but it still didn't reach your hazy mind.

silver, no. a shiny grey moved from side to side in your sight, it was getting hard to see from your hazing eyes and tiredness getting to you. nothing seemed real at the moment, maybe your head hit the wall as well– oh that could be a concussion.

there was yelling, there was someone else who caught the attention of the stranger who thought of taking advantage of your half conscious state to take your hard earned cash, maybe something darker, death. it would be fine if the latter had occurred, you think. you close your eyes reluctantly.

"hey, hey–" the other stranger called to you, the one who chased the other one off. you found their clothing funny, all clad in green and black with a hood and mask hiding their face from everyone. "what's your name? can you tell me?" you tried to focus on their voice, the stranger sounded as young as you. you answered them with your name, fading from consciousness for a moment. their voice brought you back, "do you know who i am?" you shook your head as much as you could manage to, resting your face in the hand they held it, your face with.

"i'm the green ninja." ninja? so they were real?

"gonna pick you up- okay there we go. i'm going to take you to the hospital, do you have an emergency contact?" the ninja asks slowly, letting you process each word before saying the next. they wait patiently but not saying a word, but kept moving, you don't notice the rooftops and breeze until you reopen your eyes.

"skylor chen." the ninja chuckles, seemingly knowing of who to call. they quietly thank you for the answer before jumping to the next rooftop and onwards until finally reaching the hospital.

haze. haze all you felt.

you all but remember that day, except you'll remember the person in the strange clothes. they were quite interesting.

this is more so the movie than series but there'll be canon things from the series, (ie. sensei garmadon, harumi, morro, the serpentine albeit a mention, etc). no one knows the identities of the secret ninja force, only that they are elemental masters who are about at youngest young adults since they had this gig since their late teens.

lloyd still is bullied here but not as much as his teen years (where, teenagers are undeniably judgemental and mean or the sweetest suckers ever —i can vouch as someone in their mid/late teen). he is treated unfairly and that falls onto his friends sometimes. however people mainly tend to keep away from him in case "daddy's powers kicked in".

don't ask after which season because i don't know either.

sometimes, lloyd worried for all of his friends' sanity; sometimes he would fear their instant knowing of what the other was saying as though the inside joke materialized inside of each of their brains. today was the rare instance where he was both. he switched his phone off, staring judgingly back at his reflection on the slightly smudged black screen before tossing it aside. eyes wandered to outside his room for a moment where he stared into the back of jay's head for a straight minute, only breaking contact to check his alarm clock when time became relevant to the boy again.

he grabbed the green cased phone again, unlocking it quickly to air his simple question out into the group chat's wind before, once again, the phone was discarded amongst his sheets while lloyd finally got ready to go out on patrol. he heard jay laugh loudly at the message, with the vague sound of cole rhetorical asking himself another. thank fuck kai, zane and nya weren't here right now judging by their reactions to his obliviousness.

lloyd threw a quick cuss out to jay, making him laugh out louder than he was initially. the blond decided to work on doing what he should've had done hours prior to whatever he choose to place more importance in. the shiny fabric of his gi felt nice in his hands, sometime he found small comforts in– good clothes. untouched, intact clothes he had the misfortune of not having in high school.

his thoughts swirling him into worry and memories of then.

the pinging notifications caught his ear, soft and muffled but slowly raising in volume to where it finally broke the poor boy out of his trance.

lloyd muffledly yelled in frustration into his innocent pillow before laughing quietly. he should have expected no less from a bunch of adults with nothing but time on their hands to tease the kid of the group senseless. but it felt good, considering lloyd's past with an old lover grated his heart into nothing but pieces and ash.

maybe he should get ready to get before nya yells at him for being late, again.

lloyd sighed, flopped down on the soft, dark coloured blankets of his fairly well-done bed, boredly watching the sky fade into a gentle blue from a deep night colour. the stars barely twinkled in the light blue of the now brighter sun, clouds were yet to drift around. lloyd turned his head to the door to hide from the shiny gold light that managed to slip through the window, he knew he should not have opened the blinds.

he mumbled a small groan, looking to see jay half awake plopping down on his bed in a similar fashion lloyd had done so a few minutes ago. the difference was he almost nearly knocked out immediately, half from his own grogginess and half from yesterday. lloyd needed to remember to thank him for carrying him up to his room last night.

the blond reached a hand to the bed, blind searching for his phone to find something to do while procrastinating getting ready to go out with nya. patrol was always so tiring, considering sometimes they needed to move away from the city to the smallest villages further south.

but, of course they were not alone in protecting the land, so were the elemental masters they met back when they were teenagers, and barely managing to control the full extent of their elements as respective elemental masters. he smiled fondly of his friends.

he locked the phone he managed to find after finally turning to look back to see the mysterious whereabouts of his disappearing phone, the simple thing evaded his hand every time he managed to nearly grab it.

lloyd shook the hand threading through his hair making the blond strands bounce back and forth, humming softly a well loved song amongst their little group- weekend whip, a little inside joke from back years ago when he first joined the little group of younger kid ninjas by accidently busting down the door to his uncle's house while blasting the song on his headphones. as punishment, lloyd got forced into training for a while before kai figured out that this lil' chaos causer was the destined green ninja.

he smiled at the thoughts of his happier days, flipping through the notifications that puddled in since he jumped in the car. the usual tag and article showed up in the pop-up bar, nothing he found much interest in checking out.

mindlessly he opened twitter, and surprisingly all the usernames were his friends. something he'd never usually see on the daily, usually they'd flock together to make their followers confused over their inside jokes but the use of his name further confused him more.

furthermore, seeing the other elemental masters show up as well surprised him beyond his words, what exactly in the name of fsm happened?

there was a sore feeling in lloyd's heart when they finally departed from the girls' place, one that made him long to be at his sisters' for at the least a few more moments or even just a second. disappointment dragged down his lips into a frown before he decided on shifting to make himself comfortable. green eyes set onto the stationary road beside him, mindlessly watching the bystanders in his life move along in their own without much worry for his.

not that they cared any more if they knew it was him.

lloyd subconsciously leaned against the door, tired eyes still were kept trained on the now blurry roads of the city streets while he consciously fought back a yawn threatening to break his attention. he swallowed down the yawn with some successful effort before sighing quickly after. the blond then moved to lean against the seat instead of the window, moving his head to rest on jay's shoulder who laid his own on the younger's.

the muffled and soft sound of the older boy's heartbeat calmed his thoughts, subtle but effective enough to bring him back to his very much normal-at-the-moment reality.

"soooo?" jay whispered above a breath to make sure he didn't wake anyone up (cole sat in the front passenger seat to keep zane company while he drove but he fell asleep after kai did a little after when they left the road the girls were staying). he ruffled lloyd's hair before dropping the hand to the boy's lap to hold one of his own. "how you doing?"

lloyd squeezed the brunet's hand softly, lightly purring into the jacket covering his shoulder with a nuzzle of his nose. "okay," it was a soft mumble, but jay hummed back in a delicate tone.

he didn't think his disappointment was worth the mention. of course he would feel so, lloyd only found his old friend after years and all that time lost needed some catching up. he felt something similar when they first left the outskirts, but the shadowy emotion lurked in something else while beside his thought of disappointment.

the boy peeked over jay's shoulder to catch a quick glance at his phone. jay smiled while sparing a quick glance down to lloyd, tilting his phone to lloyd to show the flashy colours belonging to edits of the secret ninja force the public managed make from the choppy clips filmed during some attacks and some better ones from impromptu interviews all courtesy of NGTV news.

jay himself never really understood why, but he enjoyed watching the silly edits of the city's ninja from time to time. it did kill time and he did have an addiction to the incredibly addictive tiktok.

the bright blues and white swirled back and forth, the edit was of the lightning ninja that switched back and forth from good old fighting to some interviews, the one in question was particularly a popular vlog, done by some kid that managed to show up at all the right times.

"hey, aren't those nelson's videos?" lloyd quietly asked, shifting to see the phone a little better. jay hummed, agreeing quietly before opening the comments and mindlessly scroll through them. "yeah, he has some of the best quality clips when yk? we are fighting nine out of ten times we do show up." lloyd nodded slightly, going back to watching whatever edit played next.

"aw, they like me!" jay quietly exclaimed with a wide and happy smile at the thought, informing the driver (who seemingly went into auto pilot for a moment) of a random comment from the following video's comment section he liked before giving it his own verbal one and going back to scrolling aimlessly. the soft phonk music turned to gentler ones and back, switching to and forward between all sorts of genres before stopping shortly and starting up again.

the feeling didn't leave while lloyd tried hard to concentrate on whatever was playing on jay's phone even if most of it was bright, flashy colours. it lingered and mixed with the tiredness marching through his body uninvitingly.

lloyd sighed again, choosing to close his eyes and enjoying the peace of the trip back home after the light began to lose its hold on his attention. the eye hurting array colours mixed with dark that surrounded his closed eyes. fortunately, it didn't bother him too much. slowly he finally succumbing asleep on jay's shoulder, still partially attached to his brother's side.

"g'night, kid," jay murmured, knowing lloyd barely heard him in his sleepy daze, before switching his phone off and resting his head against lloyd's again and trying to catch up on his lack of shut eye himself.

maybe if he slept, lloyd thought, that pit in his gut would go away?

"so you two know each other...?" skylor asked with a confused undertone underlining her hesitant words, but her voice was almost distant and muted in the background when it tried to reach either of your ears. she shared a short glance with the others before looking back at the both of you.

lloyd shuttered a small noise that vaguely sounded like a gasp crossed with some soft animal-like noise before quickly gathering you up in his arms, lifting you up slightly from the ground and hugging you as tight as he could. it was almost like a fantasy how familiar you felt, feeling you wrap your own arms around his neck and laughing heartily at his giddiness. warmth eloped over your body, a revelation of buried sadness unsurfaced in a singular moment of feeling an old, familiar happiness wrapping its, or in this case, his arms around you. he sighed dreamily before reluctantly letting you stand on your own weight. with soft green eyes delicate as ever, he hugged you once more just to make sure you were real and with him right now.

you stared soft-eyed with a childlike excitement, "puberty's treated you well," you mentioned while taking in his appearance —much alike one of the idols your friend was a fan of, jungkook was his name you believed,— but he still had his baby face that never held much menace or threat to it. you internally thanked the first spinjitzu master when you realised he didn't have that bowl cut he had, though you've become fond of the cute disaster his hair was.

lloyd's heats up slightly at your comment, choosing to glare weightlessly at you, like he always did —damn if anything you miss that cute pout and furrowed eyebrows making him all the more harmless. "you look good too." he internal cringes at his wording on that reply, and hells did he miss the way you chuckle at his badly timed bad remarks, ones he managed to only have with you around.

"a-HEM." someone cleared their throat in a successful attempt to draw your attention to the elephant in the room. "what?" you stare back at your cousin's blank one. "you know each other?" jay repeats skylor's question with a slightly raised brow, watching curiously, partially hanging off the couch.

"uh– i don't know what you mean.. we don't," lloyd answered with a face as confused as jay's, and a voice completely sarcastic. he frowned childishly with an arm of his snaking its way over your shoulder. "yeah, what d'ya say?" you backup your friend, despite lending against him to further prove it as sarcasm. "damn you man," jay cursed while turning away and sliding down on the couch and huffing softly. nya sighed at her boyfriend before correcting him, "how, how do you know each other?" she laid a hand to ruffle his hair, humming accompanied by a love smitten smile when the boy almost purred at her affection.

"oh! we're childhood friends! best friends?" despite the fact he mumbled the last part to himself, lloyd answered gleefully with the arm wrapped itself around your shoulder pulling you closer. the blond had that very bright smile on his face that made you cringe and made you want to shield your eyes from the light. was he always so bright? you tuned out the explanation he gave to shortly admire his smile before you snapped back into reality.

but with the way the two you spoke so fondly of and with each other simultaneously made the others think of couples so close to each other. with surprisingly the soft, warm looks back and forth when one of you wasn't looking; to the way the both of you so quickly got wrapped up in your own incoherent little conversations. lloyd at multiple points stopped solely to focus on you, and specifically you —doubting he actually heard a word you said during that time. you were no better, softly rubbing the back of his hand with your thumb before you began to fiddle and play with it like his hand was the most endearing thing you stumbled across —also doubting you paid any mind to him during that moment. the fond glances in your eyes were reminiscent of the ones they all sent to their partners.

cole nudged kai's shoulder with his knee, smiling with a half grin at both of your obliviousness before they both half-laughed softly with jay upon seeing his own amusement (and defeat).

nya had kept a deadpan look on her face at the display in front of her, and she thought jay was obvious. she sighed quietly, leaning forward to put her chin on jay's shoulder and glancing towards where her boyfriend's attention was. she glanced back to where you and lloyd were before looking back to kai and cole, shaking her head softly before joining in their laughter.

the nindroids kept the conversation between the duo of you and the green clad boy going, a slight glint of amusement in pixal's eyes was fairly noticeable to the rest of them. she was subtly sharing looks of equal concern and disbelief with kai. however zane, on the other hand, seemed to not catch onto the whole joke, opting to stay mostly neutral nor did he really share glances with anyone. but oh boy, was this entertainment for him.

the only person (barely) not having it was skylor, of course, she found the fact you two were obviously flirting hilarious considering it's been a good decade since you last met. but the mere thought of the fact made her cringe internally at how bad her romance (though her rizz was quite literally on fire) was. lil' greenie over here managed to pull her cousin almost instantly. sometimes she regretted wanting to stay single.

throughout the whole time, each one of them shared a moment of utter amusement with every person but the two of you. lloyd noticed the quick, knowing looks between everyone but chose to stay quiet over it before returning to the conversation at hand. but fsm, did he feel a little dumber than he'd admit.
